the custody battle between Nathalie "Assigned Parent by Ladybug" Sancoeur and Amélie "Actual Blood Relative With Legal Rights" Graham de Vanily would be a fun scenario to explore if it wasn't for the fact that Amélie would probably let Adrien stay in Paris with no adult supervision at all if he told her that was what he wanted.

I've been thinking about the tragedy of Elizabeth Woodville living to see the end of her family name.
I don't mean her family with her husband, which lived on through her daughter and grandson. I mean her own.
Her sisters died, one by one, many of them after 1485. When Elizabeth died, only Katherine was left, and she would die before the turn of the century as well.
All her brothers died, too. Lewis died in childhood. John was executed. Anthony was murdered. Lionel died suddenly in the peak of Richard's reign, unable to see his niece become queen. Edward perished at war. Richard died in grieving peace. For all the violence and judgement the family endured, it was "an accident of biology" that ended their line: none of the brothers left heirs, and the Woodville name was extinguished. We know the family was aware of this. We know they mourned it, too:
“Buy a bell to be a tenor at Grafton to the bells now there, for a remembrance of the last of my blood.”
Elizabeth lived through the deposition and death of her young sons, and lived to see the end of her own family name. It must have been such a haunting loss, on both sides.
#(the quote is by Richard Woodville in his deathbed will; he was the last of the Woodville brothers to die)#elizabeth woodville#woodvilles#my post#to be clear I am not arguing that the death of an English gentry family name is some kind of giant tragedy (it absolutely the fuck is not)#I'm trying to put it into perspective with regards to what Elizabeth may have felt because we know her family DID feel this way#writing this kinda reminded me of how I am just not fond at all about the way Elizabeth's experiences in 1483-85 are written about#and the way lots so many of the unprecedentedly horrifying aspects are overlooked or treated so casually:#the seizure and murder of two MINOR sons and the illegal execution of another;#her sheer vulnerability in every way compared to all her queenly predecessors; how she was harassed by 'dire threats' for months;#how she had 5 very young daughters with her to look after at the time (Bridget and Katherine were literally 3 and 4 years old);#how unprecedented Richard's treatment of her was: EW was the first queen of england to be officially declared an adulteress;#and the first and ONLY queen to be officially accused of witchcraft#(Joan of Navarre was accused of her treason; she was never explicitly accused of witchcraft on an official level like EW was)#the first crowned queen of england to have her marriage annulled; and the first queen to have her children officially bastardized#what former queens endured through rumors* were turned into horrifying realities for her.#(I'm not trying to downplay the nightmare of that but this was fundamentally on a different level altogether)#nor did Elizabeth get a trial or appeal to the church. like I cannot emphasize this enough: this was not normal for queens#and not normal for depositions. ultimately what Richard did *was* unprecedented#and of course let's not forget that Elizabeth had literally just been unexpectedly widowed like 20 days before everything happened#I really don't feel like any of this is emphasized as much as it should be?#apart from the horrifying death of her sons - but most modern books never call it murder they just write that they 'disappeared'#and emphasize that ACTUALLY we don't know what happened to them (this includes Arlene Okerlund)#rather than allowing her to have that grief (at the very least)#more time is spent dealing with accusations that she was a heartless bitch or inconsistent intriguer for making a deal with Richard instead#it also feels like a waste because there's a lot that can be analyzed about queenship and R3's usurpation if this is ever explored properly#anyway - it's kinda sad that even after Henry won and her daughter became queen EW didn't really get a break#her family kept dying one by one and the Woodville name was extinguished. and she lived to see it#it's kinda heartbreaking - it was such a dramatic rise and such a slow haunting fall#makes for a great story tho

honestly when i tried to figure out why some fans are so mad at ivypool these days i was looking through avos and. the scene where ivypool apologises to twigpaw for not supporting sending a patrol for skyclan is genuinely very sweet??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i actually saw someone characterize this as "ivypool forcing twigpaw to forgive her". is it crack you smoke. is that what you smoke. you smoke crack?
#she apologises THREE SEPARATE TIMES#she acknowledges that dovewing and tigerheart's situation made her ignore twigpaw's feelings#she reassures twigpaw that this is the right thing for the clans. she tells her she's proud of her & tc is lucky to have her#you guys do understand that to apologise you have to Do Something Wrong?? or is that the part that's so unforgivable?#i am fASCINATED by the treatment of dove and ivy by the fans in recent years#i'm still pondering it but i think there are a few root causes#1) I think a lot of people read oots as kids and hated dove & identified with ivy because of the underdog storyline#maybe this fandom worship of dovewing is kinda part of that? wanting to feel like you've grown out of fandom misogyny?#but i also feel like 2) tigerdove has really increased dovewing's popularity#and i think because ivypool is so staunchly opposed to their relationship people then have to villainise ivypool#3) is maybe too spicy of a take but to be honest#i think people are subconsciously way more comfortable with a woman whose story ends in heterosexual marriage and childrearing#dovewing's mom role in TBC to shadowsight probably helped her popularity#so ivypool whose relationship w Fernsong & her kits is much less of a focus. and is mUCH less maternal#and who still exhibits Ugly Female Emotions like anger and hurt#and who God Forbid now holds a position of authority...#is too complicated to fit into :) she's such a good mom :) she's such a good mate#dovewing is easier to like because she tends to be a victim of circumstances (🤫 and often lacks agency in her storylines)#since ivypool regularly uses her agency to Fuck Up#fans revert to idealising dovewing because not only is she too good to do bad things. she also doesn't do Things in general#never mind that ivypool is the one who sacrifices and apologises#anyway <3 i think if i made a full analysis of ivy and dove post OOTS i would get too many spicy anons so i will cower in the tags

I'm reading a fanfiction currently about a girl that was isekai'd into AoaB with knowledge of everything that's going to happen in the future. It's a very good series of fics, but it's almost painful to get through. Though Myne has so many things going against her, somehow the main character in the fic, Mila, has it worse. Everything she works for she struggles to achieve. Nobody gives her any chances. Nobody is looking out for her. She can escape death and more and nobody will care. It's honestly depressing.
Reading it, I can't help but put myself in Mila's shoes and think how I'd feel if I got isekai'd into a world with knowledge of the future, and despite this, everyone, all the characters I love, treating me like a nuisance and a liability than someone of worth. But at the same time it makes sense. Even if Mila is the main character of the fic, the real main character is Rozemyne. That's who the world circles around. But still, as someone that rooting for Mila reading this, I just want happier things to happen to her.

people doing this whole "look at how rhaenys acted with corlys's bastard son vs how catelyn acted with jon snow" to demonize one or the other is weird because, like, maybe it's just me, but i think that catelyn and rhaenys had different reactions because they're different people in different situations.
#personal#like they're clearly very different people with different personalities#hell even the situations are different#rhaenys kinda stumbles upon corlys's bastard whose name i don't know cuz i'm not watching this season just kinda in passing#she knew he existed but didn't really have to deal with it at all#meanwhile ned comes home with this baby he says is a product of cheating and just goes 'he's living here now'#there's no space for catelyn to separate herself from the betrayal of fidelity the way that there likely was for rhaenys#like i'm not catelyn's biggest fan#not just because of her treatment of jon (altho yeah i'll be honest i'm not a fan) but there's stuff about her personality#and how she views the world and what being in her head is like that can rub me the wrong way#(she's just so constantly judgy and rude about nearly everyone she doesn't know and even some that she does and it can get exhausting)#but she's a different person to rhaenys and also occupies a different role than she does#rhaenys has a lot more going for her in her marriage than just being corlys's wife#she's got the bluer blood as a targaryen princess she's got a dragon she's got power and influence in her own right#meanwhile catelyn doesn't have nearly as much#she's a lord's daughter yeah but in this entirely new kingdom where she is now her power comes from being ned's wife#and mother to his children#in her head jon is a threat to that power due to being not only a reminder of ned's infidelity but also how his placement could supplant#her children and thus herself by extension#along with her just having a different personality to rhaenys that makes her harsher about it#(i mean i still don't LIKE that she takes it out on jon who certainly didn't ask to be born but i at least understand from characterization#and again: they're different people! no shit they'd react differently!#i'm just baffled at this attempt to pit GOT characters against HOTD characters all the time it's so weird#like now there's people arguing who's better between jace and robb stark and i'm just left baffled#do y'all literally not know how to consume content in any other way except petty fandom wars? my god you're annoying

Sorry, I was trying to ask your opinion about the person who asked Katydid about if AFO and Yoichi were step brothers instead of biological. Words are hard and my brain went kaput while typing the question out.
ohhh ok that ask! yeah i think its a fun idea and gentry and i spitballed out some fun things, like:
as yoichi was formerly an only child, he can see afo's early red flags and is like 'ah hell no, he thinks im a new toy called 'baby brother'. im like six months younger than him. and im not gonna be his brother for long, and then hopefully mom and i can forget all about this.' and tries to break his parents up
AfO is aware but isn't letting his family split up, he doesn't care who's by blood or law or what, Yoichi is his little brother now. he definitely locked his parents in a room at one point when it was looking like they'd really divorce, and said he'd only let them out once they promised to stay together. Yoichi sees this early vaulting tendency and wants to scream.
Even when the divorce happens, AfO's like "no, you're still my little brother, what does our parents choices have to do with us?" and yoichi is like "my choice dude. my choice to not be your brother" and uhhh well. vaulting upgrade!
Yoichi warns his lovers that he hesitates to get married because if they become AfO's brothers in law, then he will stop at nothing to vault them too, no matter what happens to their relationship with Yoichi after. they'd be stuck as family with him and Yoichi wouldn't wish that on his most hated enemy, let alone Second and Third
Second and Third are like "come on. there's no way, he hates us and wants us dead, its fine." Yoichi is like "no, really, he's done this before." Second and Third are like "youve been married before???" and Yoichi clears up that he means his mother's marriage to his stepfather, which his stepbrother AfO did not acknowledge the end of.
they didn't send an invite to the wedding, which directly led to:

(Second's fine here btw all his injuries are from throwing himself at AfO and AfO figuring he now has a new slightly sturdier and more rambunctious little brother.)

being a part of a marginalized group does not give you a free pass to target and abuse disabled people.
ableism is still ableism. even if the person being ableist is poc or lgbt. even if it's "just a cultural difference".
we are constantly fucking forgotten or told to be grateful for "what we've been given".
lmao
I live in the US and we have a bare few fucking laws to protect us (disabled people). the rehab act and the ADA are the two that come to mind immediately, and the ADA is barely ever fucking enforced. I was recently refused entry at an urgent care center because I have a service dog. I filed a complaint with the DOJ, which is ALL YOU'RE FUCKING ALLOWED TO DO and I received, in writing;
"We won't be investigating this further".
And every other fucking sd handler I've spoken to in the past TWO YEARS has had the same shit happen; even when we have proof, even when we have video or audio or literal image proof of being discriminated against. even if we have it in WRITING. What happens if you call the police? Nothing. They run with the claim of "we don't enforce federal/civil law". Present them with state law that is equal to or more protective than the ADA? "well that's still a civil law" or an entire refusal to hear or see the law.
we don't even fucking have the right to marriage. We literally do not. Because some of us will lose our insurance and SSDI checks. Which means we will die.
It feels like the whole fucking system is set up to kill us.

this is a very personal post but fuck it. i would honestly be a lot more inclined to take my mother's non-affirming theology seriously if she didn't say to me in 2022, the same year she was being treated as a historical authority during [redacted], that she didn't believe bisexual men existed. flat out. because... many men in the ancient world were very much what we consider bisexual, and it is a considerable portion of what the new testament clobber passages are based on. so, therefore, i can't take her historical basis of non-affirming theology as true because there are inherent flaws with her understanding of queer identity that mean she's not sufficiently looking at the context of these passages. in my opinion.
of course, i can't say this, because 1. why should i remember that conversation and 2. why should i care.
fuck the [redacted] and fuck any implication that pride is not a necessity, even in progressive countries.
