I’ll consider it another win over the SCU.

I still like the SCU but the fact that it took almost four movies to get maybe one GAME female character while the Mario movie did it on day one is crazy. (And the sequel is possible giving us another one!)

With the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel coming in 2026, I hope between now and when the movie is released we get some extra content like shorts or maybe even a TV special (just think of a Luigi's Mansion short film).

Okay but can you imagine how seeing the whole Mama!Luigi plot in the sequel would be like?

Luigi just trying to be normal about this random baby dino imprinting on him on such a random occasion while Mario is joking around and saying that he always wanted to be an uncle, much to Luigi's annoyance.

I know I've said this before, but after Luigi had so much bad luck with animals in the first movie, it would be absolutely adorable if this green baby dino thing imprinted on him. The entire learning curve of Luigi (and Mario by extension) trying to figure out how to take care of him would be so cute.

I also know that in the original "Mama Luigi" episode, baby Yoshi had a bad habit of immediately getting into trouble the moment he was left unattended, so the possibilities for hijinks are limitless.

But that's assuming we get baby Yoshi at all. I'm still cautiously optimistic, knowing that the modern adult version of Yoshi is his most recognizable and marketable form. But at the same time... c'mon, you gotta love an "adult men try to look after a kid while navigating the plot" kind of movie.

It's a solid trope.

romeo & juliet bc Shakespeare is in the public domain but it's nintendo & sony as the metaphor for group identity. and they're both lesbians and it's enemies to lovers romance game and they both code video games and they both work at nintendo & sony respectibly. but then they are in Mario Movie: The Sequel and Mario explains economics and capitalism and the concept of an oligopoly and then teaches them how to make their own video game enterprise of video games for the people that are magic and are free and there is now free video games for everyone games unlimited games
