Mario Is Not From Brooklyn
So something that I've noticed come up time and again in Mario lore discussion is people trying to argue that Mario is still an Italian American Immigrant from Brooklyn, and that he get Isekaied into the Mushroom Kingdom. They claim the New Donkers colonized the Metro Kingdom and the events of Donkey Kong Arcade took place in New York City, and they try to use Tour Earth(I'll talk about this in a future post) in this all. They also claim DK94 is the only one that takes place New Donk City. Many try to use this to claim the movie is canon to the games as well. So here's why this is not the story of the games. First off in the article from Engadget titled Super Mario Odyssey' may look bizarre, but it feels just right. We learn Mario is not an Italian American from Brooklyn. "At first, this is almost jarring. In New Donk City, a sprawling metropolis, Mario's short, squat body looks noticeably out of place, enough to make me turn to the presenters at Nintendo's E3 booth and ask a weird question: Is Mario even human? The spokesperson on hand said the company's official line for that particular query was to say that he was a native son of the Mushroom Kingdom." This is something backed up by Yoshi's New Island showing Mario and Luigi's parents live in the Mushroom Kingdom. Made further evident by them living there in Partner's In Time, and the Wooly and Crafted World games being the result of a Baby Mario, Luigi, and Peach playing in a Kindergarten.
The second thing is the city where the events of Donkey Kong took place is established to be on the same planet. Donkey Kong 94 shows this and Miyamoto also talks about it in the developer interview from Shmuplations. Miyamoto: "Right. We came up with a lot of ideas, and ultimately decided that it'd be nice if Donkey Kong got his own castle, too (laughs). The story of the original game plays out over and over ― Donkey Kong running away, the player chasing after them, running, chasing ― culminating in Donkey Kong's stomping grounds." + "The Mushroom Kingdom looks to be on the outskirts of Donkey Kong's homeland, as seen in the game's ending…" Made further evident by the Kong easily getting there in Donkey Kong Land even more evident by the manual. "Travel by Zeppelin to Donkey Kong's favorite stomping ground, Big City. The sight of that familiar skyline might bring back fond memories, but don't waste your time sightseeing when there are Kremlings around!" Also, while not canon the OVA already had the idea of Mario and Luigi being from the same planet that has the Mushroom Kingdom on it, as referring to them coming from a Kingdom from the East. While one could argue that is might have been intended to still be New York back then, it cannot be argued that is the case now.
This is because this city was renamed to New Donk City and is intended to be the one from DKA. In a 4Gamer interview titled What was the intention behind the various changes made to "Super Mario Odyssey"? We asked producer Yoshiaki Koizumi. In this interview Koizumi reveals this is the city from that one game. "We created the visuals for New Donk City with a city as the theme, and then we thought, 'Oh, come to think of it, we had a game set in a city a long time ago. Mario was in it, wasn't he?' So Pauline's name popped up like a word association game. At first, we had the idea of making her the princess of New Donk City, but we thought that there wouldn't be a princess in that city's world, so we made her the mayor." This also further reveal that Pauline is indeed Lady from DKA. Speaking of Pauline, when answering her questions in SMO she mentions having been captured by an ape one time. Since there has been several kidnappings this would imply she's referring to the first and original one which took place in DKA. The one she calls traumatic and a terrible day. She also askes how well she's doing as a Mayor, that alongside some details about the city being under construction, reference to the city's origins, and coins with her face on it implied this city is pretty young and she hasn't been mayor since the city began. There is also the thing with the Classic Outfit. The final evidence for New Donk City being the city from DKA is the following. The City has the same steel gutters from DKA, alongside iconography of the original game. Something page 358 of The Art Of Super Mario Odyssey actually calls attention to. "Many of the stylistic elements in New Donk City come from this game. The billboards and red steel girders are obvious, but the taxi license plates that read '1981-ND' come from the year of this game's release" But the nail in the coffin is the festival season which is mentioned in the brochure, in particular the one you participate in, in SMO. As a New Donker says in this festival, "this festival tells the story of our city's beginnings." A detail even the Art Book calls attention to on page 358 of course. "This rivalry is re-created during the festival!" Pauline also does the movements she made in the arcade game during this festival. This festival has the theme and imagery not of Donkey Kong 94 or anything else, but specifically DKA which would be in reference to that terrible day Pauline referred to. This confirms the events of DKA took place in this city and not in real world New York City.
Not a single piece of in game information, nor does any manual, or even Odyssey interview state that the New Donker came from real world New York City. Even if Miyamoto came out now and said DKA takes place in New York, it would be wrong because the current story of the games contradicts this. It's best to treat New Donk City like Gotham, more than likely originally intended to be New York. But eventually made into a fictional city once given a proper name, and now only takes heavy inspiration from the real world place.

In Super Mario Odyssey, there is a hidden message from Cappy that can only be seen during the nighttime version of New Donk City, if Mario takes the motor scooter from the beginning of the section (next to where the entrance to the city would be during the day) and rides it all the way to the roof of the building to the east of the city hall.
This is much harder to do during the nighttime version of this area as it requires Mario to ride the scooter across the suspended beams of the construction site on the west side of the city. If this is done during the daytime, Cappy will not be impressed as the path from the scooter spawning point to this roof is clear and requires no dangerous platforming.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the collision of the platforms in the second room of the Underground Power Plant in New Donk City is slightly misaligned from their visual appearance, causing all entities to float a short distance above the ground. Note Mario and the rat both floating slightly above their shadows in the screenshot.

most and least divorced mario characters?
Love this question
MOST DIVORCED MARIO CHARACTERS
#1: Bowser & Peach
Tumblr media
Now, Bowser has only married Peach for dark ritual purposes, which legally I think doesn't count. However, you can't deny that there is something distinctly divorced about their relationship. Bowser Jr. is extremely fond of both of them, idolizing his father and calling Peach "Mama" (even after he knows she did not give birth to him - another point for Divorced Bowser). Bowser obviously loves his kid, and Peach really has no quarrel with him either; nevertheless, the only time Junior ever sees them alone together is when they're fighting. "Your princess is in another castle", indeed.
#2: Donkey Kong Jr.
Tumblr media
Donkey Kong Jr. is so goddamn divorced that we don't even know who his ex-wife is. She just fucked off to nowhere. Now he is a lonely balding accountant in New Donk City, but he is doing very well for himself, so good for him. Maybe one day he will be ready to jump back into the dating scene and find his second banana.
#3 Queen Jaydes & King Grambi
Tumblr media
They have joint custody over Luvbi but unlike Bowser and Peach they are amicably separated so all that means for her is that she gets two birthdays.
Now...
LEAST DIVORCED MARIO CHARACTERS
#1: Yoshi
Tumblr media
#2: Cranky & Wrinkly Kong
Tumblr media
"Til death do we part" my ass. No force on earth or otherwise is going to keep these geezers from bickering over the TV remote. Forget OTP, this is the TP.
#3: 5-Volt
Tumblr media
Sorry fellas, 5-Volt does NOT have single mom swag. Although she is the only one of 9-volt's parents with the honor of being playable, seasoned wario veterans will know that 9-volt has a loving firefighter dad whose choice of occupation (and presumably the physique that comes with it) only "fans the flames of love" for 5-volt, disappointing MILF-hunters everywhere. Go get your own, ugly.

I know I’m many years late to playing Mario Odyssey and maybe this has been discussed at length before but like, Pauline is the mayor of New Donk city right? But she doesn’t look like the citizens. They all look alike except for skin color and a gender distinction while their mayor is the only unique person and even in a different art style. So is she their “Princess Peach” and they’re her “Toads?” And therefore depending on the continuity are they different species and she’s from another world or are they the same species but a “Donker” can become a Pauline if elected mayor, making democratic election their “super crown???”

Ok, everybody humour me for a second. It's kinda nutty that despite everything Mario and Luigi are still cannonically two American Italian dudes from Brooklyn.
Like, in Yoshi's Island we learn that Mario and Luigi were delivered by stork (they were therefore also never conceived, and despite this somehow remain American with Italian heritage). Those storks were going over a magical dinosaur Island on their way to fucking real life Brooklyn NYC.
In the Warioland series we learn that in the Mario universe there are in fact societies reminiscent of our own, with regular human inhabitants. But Mario and Luigi aren't from those societies, they're from REAL LIFE BROOKLYN NYC.
Also, just for a second, I would like us all to consider the people of New Donk City. Remembering that Mario and Luigi represent what normal, regular humans from real life look like in the Mario artstyle, I want us all to seriously consider what sort of freakish 9ft tall slender people inhabit New Donk.
Every single thing you see either of them do is being done by some random dude you could encounter just walking around real life New York. Like, that's unhinged, the entire premise of Mario and Luigi as characters is just unbelievably wild, despite everything they're just two random ass men! The only thing that makes even a small ammount of sense about them is that they bailed on the real world to go live in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Since Mario Jumpman Mario makes a cameo in the audience during Kirby Superstar, does that mean that Mario lived in the New World?
Tumblr media
That's right!! Mario and Kirby exist in the same universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That must mean- Mario Odyssey is the prequel to Forgotten Land CONFIRMED!!! The Downtown Grasslands were actually New Donk City this whole time!
Or what if the Kirby universe is the center of the entire Nintendo franchise and that's how so many artifacts from other games show up. That's why stuff like Mr. Saturn or the Triforce are buried in Great Cave Offensive!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirby is the ultimate evolution of every Nintendo universe. Heck- it must be the final stage of all universes!! ALL ROADS LEAD TO KIRBY!!! Our current society must also be on track to one day evolve into Dream Land! That means the chance that King Dedede is alive on our planet RIGHT NOW is low but not zero!!

POV: The year is 2028. You're in the theater watching the third Super Mario Bros. movie. New Donk City is in chaos; Mario and DK can't fight off Bowser's massive army alone. It's the all-is-lost moment. As a tidal wave of Goombas approaches, Mario and DK look at each other, resigned to their fate.
Suddenly, a golden star shoots across the sky and pierces one of Bowser's airships; it explodes instantly. "What was that?" DK (Seth Rogen) shouts. Mario (Chris Pratt) throws his first up, "Party time!"
Next, thunder roars, and a giant bolt of lightning lands right in the middle of the Goombas, causing many of them to pop. When the smoke clears, Pikachu is standing in the crater. Mario runs up to him. "Thought you weren't coming!" Mario says. Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) smirks. "Peach made me an offer I couldn't refuse." [A fourth wall reference to some legal dispute between Nintendo and GameFreak that almost kept Pikachu out of the movie].
Samus somersaults into the frame and fires at some floating Shy Guys; she lands in a cool pose. "Superhero landing!" Pikachu cheers because you need to remember he is Ryan Reynolds.
Link jumps into the scene from behind Samus. He slashes at a dozen or so Dry Bones. Nothing happens until Link sheaths the Master Sword, and then they all crumble into a pile of bones.
The shooting star from earlier circles the group, and Kirby hops off. We get a slow shot of the heroes standing side by side. The Brawl theme plays as the citizens of New Donk City cheer with renewed hope. Bowser's army has regrouped and is now even larger. "Let's hurry this up, boys," Samus (Jennifer Lawrence) says. "I don't work for free."
"We should compare paychecks after this," Ryan Reynolds - I mean Pikachu says.
"Wait!" Everyone turns to Link (Tom Holland). "You guys are getting paid?"
The group exchanges awkward glances. "Talk later, smash now!" Mario says. "Let's-a-go!"
This movie makes 3 billion dollars.

In Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong use a zeppelin to travel from their island to Big Ape City, which is implied to be the location where Donkey Kong (1981) took place.
This would mean that Big Ape City is the same location as New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey.

The Mario Movie Is Not Canon To The Games P2
Part 1
Now for other things that are extra details that separate the movies from the games.
Toad a close friend of Peach and member of the Mushroom Council in the games has not meet Peach in the movies. Toad is also dressed more like Captain Toad which is a separate character in the games.
Super Star is treated as a rare object that must be heavily guarded in the movie. While in the games they are extremely abundant even used without a care in Party events or part of a special move in SMRPG. In addition their more Power counterparts which Bowser usually goes after are also still pretty abundant. With Power Moons which are Power Stars in another shape being extremely common. Honestly the way the Super Star is treated in the movie is more like the Star Rod.
Fire Flowers are merely touched in the movie while they are established to be eaten in games.
Mario hates mushrooms in the movie while in the games has loved them since he was little.
Mario uses a Cat Suit in the movie while he didn't get this Power-Up until the events of Super Mario 3D World.
Pauline is the mayor of New Donk City. While in the games Mario was dating Pauline and it's implied she hadn't become Mayor yet.
Kamek acts more like a yesman with Bowser never questioning him. In Bowser has been shown to question others to insure his plan goes off right, and Kamek is acting more like Kammy Koopa in the movie. Kamke isn't really a yesman and often advises Bowser, which has even lead to arguments between the 2.
Foreman Spike end sup on good terms and cheering for Mario and Luigi by the end of the movie. However, in the games Spike doesn't see Mario in a better light until after Wrecking Crew 98.
Karts in the movie are the modern karts while in the games at this point they only had pipe frame karts. The anti gravity can also go atop water in the movie unlike the games.
Rainbow Road breaks due to a Blue Shell in the movie, which never happens in game.
Speaking Blue shells. The Blue Spiked Shelled Paratroopa in the movie is not a thing in the games. In games Blue Koopa Troopas aren't the highest rank and if anything it Gold Shells would be a rank above. But regardless it's actually the Koopatrol that are the elite Koopa Troopas. Adding on to that, the Blue Shell is not a Koopa Troopa Shell in the games but rather a Spiny Shell. They also didn't look this at this point in the timeline.
Fire Donkey Kong in the movie doesn't look like his game version.
Super Bell Trees don't show up in the Mushroom Kingdom but rather the Sprixie Kingdom. The same goes for the Clear Pipes.
Peach's Castle already has a stain glass window, while in the games it's established this was added due to Bowser's constant invasions.
Toad Guards in the movies are far more effective than they are in the games.
King Boo and his Boos were probably not working for Bowser at this time and it would be until future entries would they work together. The same goes for King Bob-omb and his Bob-ombs, who also doesn't have a fuse in the games.
Dry Bones and Chain Chomps were not part of Bowser's Army in SMB and wouldn't join until SMB3.
Koopa Troopas unlike in the movie were not wielding spears and wearing armor in the early games. The majority of them were also quadrupled in the games until Super Mario World when they finally went bipedal. While in the movie they are all bipedal. The same goes for Paratroopas. Peach also mentions all turtles being evil in the movie, while this is far from the case in the games. As evident by Koopa Village which is part of the Mushroom Kingdom.
The majority of Hammer Bros. in the early games didn't have shoes early on while in the movie they do have shoes
While Shy Guys were part of Bowser's Army at this point, they were not part of the events of SMB.
Bramballs are in the Grasslands instead of Jungle Biomes.
Lakitus which are major members of Bowser's army which show up in SMB are absent from the movie. Bloopers and Cheep Cheeps some more major minions of Bowser are also absent from Bowser's army in the movie. Both of the enemies show up in SMB as well.
The Adult Penguins in the movie are closer to the size of Baby Penguins in the games. They are also inhabiting the Snow Kingdom in movie which should actually be inhabited by the Shiverians. In the games the Penguins are primarily found in around places like Cool Cool Mountain which is part of the Mushroom Kingdom and not too far away from the Grasslands.
Speaking of locations, the map from the movie looks nothing like the one from games. The continent the Mushroom Kingdom is on seems to only have Grasslands and not the Eastern or Western side of this Kingdom, places like the Beanbean Kingdom, and more on it. Which includes the Koopa Kingdom as well. It also has a different shape from the Mushroom Continent. Mario, Peach, and Toad also go to Yoshi's Island which the Bros. and Peach did not go to until the events of Super Mario World in the games. Yoshi's also seems to lack the surrounding area of Dinosaur Land, let alone isn't in the Cheep Cheep Sea which located in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Also, we see a Yoshi egg in the sewers of New York in the end credits and is implied to be Mario Buddy Yoshi. However, Mario's buddy Yoshi is the Star Child Yoshi and hatched on Yoshi's Island probably during the events of Yoshi Story. They also first met during the events of Super Mario World when Bowser trapped Yoshi and his friends in eggs probably because of an previous encounter.
So yeah, I think with all that being said it should be clear now the Movie cannot be canon to the Canon of Mario Tales.

Mayor Tulip
A description of the character and his role in super Mario Odyssey
Mayor Tulip is the mayor of the capital city of the metropolitan kingdom area which is located the city of New Donk
The capital is a much bigger city than new Donk if its neighboring city Tulip is a partner and friend of Pauline both being allied mayoresses
The capital of the tulip mayor is inspired by the capital of the united states warshigton D.C
Tulip fulfills the role of only mayor
During the events of the game Tulip appears along with Pauline in new donk when Mario arrives in town, Tulip was visiting at the time and that’s where the events take place she only happens as a supporting character in the adventure as one more Mario character he knows and that’s where you as a player know more about his story
Here the only thing that changes is that Mario has the option of visiting his capital as an extra area to visit before his showdown with Bowser at the end of the game.
Exploring its capital is where you know Tulip and what it hides
You discover that she is a mayor with powers and magic she is a witch and descends from a lineage of powerful witches and witches who founded the capital of the nickname "kingdom" that name the area where the two cities reside
And the mayor’s tragic past which relates to her family tree
The events of the game and the story happen without altering anything just including Tulip as character and his city
Being on the final stretch on the moon she only has one scene helping Mario with his battle gives him a few minutes advantage before he falls to the void and depths of the moon for his battle and then she guides him out through a projection of himself as a sphere of light being her only relevant but emotional participation towards the hero which she thanks de aver known in her Odyssey
That’s the whole story of the character then only spinoff games would come where. ✨
