hello hello everyone! just here to tell you all again about our wonderful server, Biodiverse!

Biodiverse is an LGBT+ science discord server! everyone from all science fields and levels of expertise are welcome! you don’t need to be a scientist to join, just as long as you love science and want to know more about it!

we have text channels for a wide variety of science topics! there is a focus on natural sciences (mycology, botany, biology, etc.) as well as topics like chemistry and astronomy; there’s something for everyone!

“Where are we going, Jojo?” 

You don’t receive an answer, which is no surprise, but you’ve been walking with your partner along this boardwalk for the last ten minutes and felt like you needed to break the silence with something. Florida summers are unforgiving even during this late hour, sweat in uncomfortable places as you continue walking. As much as you’re losing your patience, you’re also curious where all this is going.

It only takes another moment before Jotaro stops in front of a gate, a sign on the front saying “Research Staff Only” and he unlocks it to let you pass through. 

“We’re almost there.” He says, taking the path without another word knowing that you’ll follow. Once you catch up you wrap yourself around Jotaro’s arm and he huffs. You look up just in time as he pulls the brim of his hat down his head. 

Jotaro leads you to a private section of the beach. The sand is shades lighter than what you’re used to and the waters nearly crystal clear. Aside from obvious lack of human interference, it’s not apparent what’s so special about this area until Jotaro walks across the sand and you watch in awe as almost every step lights up around him in brilliant shades of blue. The glow in the ocean catches the corner of your eye too. The gentle waves roll across the shore and your breath hitches at the sight of large pockets of blue hiding within the water.  

“What the fuck.” Is the only way to sum up what you’re feeling right now. You take a few steps across the sand, your mouth hanging open as the fine grains light up gently under your feet. 

“Bioluminescent dinoflagellates. Specifically Noctiluca, or to be blunt: glowing algae.” Jotaro explains, “They’re generally harmless but it’s safer if you don’t—If you don’t touch them.” He sighs that part out when he turns to see your sandals in hand, ankle deep in the sand as you kick your bare feet around to unearth the algae hidden away. 

It’s become one of those rare date-nights where Jotaro says more words in an hour than he’ll speak the entire week. His face is serious as always while you ask as many algae related questions you can think of just to continue to hear his voice. After a while, you're too enamored with the sights to notice how quiet it’s become until you’re ready to ask another question and catch his soft gaze zeroed in on you. 

“What’re you staring at?” You tease, kicking a clump of sand at his legs which snaps Jotaro back into focus and earns you an annoyed grunt.

“I'm not staring at you,” Jotaro replies, trying and failing not to sound defensive, “I’m just—I’m—” Jotaro’s voice trails off for a moment, though you can hear the rest being said under his breath as his cheeks turn a faint shade of pink, “I’m admiring you.”

A grin spreads across your face and he lets out a much louder ‘yare yare’ before leaning down for a kiss to nip any teasing you might do in the bud. Doesn’t stop you from flicking out more clumps of sand on him though. When Star Platinum appears and grabs fistfuls of the sand while you run for dear life, the algae lighting up with each step to make you the perfect target, you don’t regret a single thing.

I made another esk AMV! This time featuring Kanu, and their story of becoming lost to Antarctica and getting transformed by Aevre.

Since I figure it's relevant, I'll also include Kanu's backstory below the cut!

Kanu was a human by the name of Carter, born sometime in the 1900s. They were assigned female at birth, though as they grew they found the societal roles and expectations laid upon them to be particularly abhorrent. At the same time, they found the expectations placed on men to be a different sort of cage. They came to reject gender as applied to themself, and would freely dress themself in appearances that would confuse or scandalize (or both) those who interacted with them. Few understood their rejection of gender, many simply believing them to be of unsound mind, but at the same time they were unhesitant and unrepentant about living life the way they wanted to. They were strong-minded and weren't afraid of being ferocious. Their willpower guided them a long way through their life, though it was a lonely path, alienated from all those who simply wished to live their normal lives in society.  

Carter took to the wilderness, finding solace and purpose in a wild world free of the troubles and travails of society. They learned to survive in forests, deserts, mountains — all sorts of places in the wilderness. This hobby eventually became their job, as they managed to find work as a field scientist. They at first were interested in marine biology, though their focus soon shifted to the poles of Earth—specifically, Antarctica. They were unable to get a position at a research station in Antarctica, but still they felt drawn to that continent. They began to make a plan — a plan for a solo expedition. 

Years passed before Carter felt that they were ready. Those who knew them — friends, family, colleagues — had a range of reactions to the desire to explore Antarctica. Some of them were supportive, whether only in heart or also in resources, while others discouraged them. Many thought it to be impossible, a suicidal endeavor, despite the explorers who succeeded before. Some stated that there was no way "a woman" could undertake such a harrowing endeavor, which was one of many particularly irksome comments to Carter. Nonetheless, the day arrived. Carter took a boat to Antarctica — a larger one that they separated from in a smaller raft to get to the Antarctic shore.

So began their solitary journey across Antarctica, dragging only a raft of supplies behind them. The way was arduous, but they were determined to conquer the desolate continent — to prove that they could, that there was no one and nothing that could hold them back. 

Perhaps if they went at any other time, they would have made it. They were well-prepared for most of the typical dangers of Antarctica. However, it was just their luck to be caught in an avalanche — an avalanche that knocked them unconscious and swept away all their supplies. 

They woke to biting cold, katabatic winds sweeping up ice and snow around them. They sat up in the desolate whiteness of Antarctica, and they understood that they were lost. In a devastating moment, they lost their food, water, and means of contacting civilization. Their body ached with cold and a battery of injuries that they didn't dare remove what clothes they had to check, not in these winds. They sought to conquer, but instead nature struck them down in an instant. 

Carter barely had time for all this to sink in when they sensed a presence behind them. Startled, they turned around and saw what they first thought was a polar bear — but, no, polar bears shouldn't be in Antarctica… and after the initial shock, they realized that the appearance of this entity was something different. Swirls of frost curled around its form, seeming to form directly out of its body and moving in ways that couldn't be natural. The frost spread through the air and across the ground, curling lightly around Carter themself. It was cold, but everything was cold here; no, this frost was alive, an extension of the being that stood in front of them. 

This being introduced herself as Aevre, the Wanderer of the Polar Biome. She explained the situation: that she was an esk, and what esk were; that Carter was lost, and that she could save them by transforming them into an esk. All that she asked was for Carter to help her protect the biome. 

Carter considered it. They were unsure if this was real or if this was a near-death hallucination. But in their heart, they weren't ready to give up just yet, so they turned away from Aevre to continue on through the raging winds and cutting ice. 

They knew that only death awaited them if they were to press onwards. Still, they fought to survive as the cold seeped into them, as hunger and thirst gnawed at them, as the aches of their body grew harder and harder to ignore. There was a part of them that despaired. But there was a part of them that was relieved, too — relieved to know that this would be the end of them. It was with a grim resolve that they pressed onwards, defiant of their encroaching death. 

Perhaps it was the relief of knowing the inevitability of death that opened their eyes to the nature around them. They took in the icy geography with a sense of awe and reverence. They watched the wildlife, sitting among penguins and seals. Truly, how could they have thought they could conquer nature? It didn't matter whether they were man or woman or neither; it didn't matter that they came prepared for this trial. Nature is absolute, inexorable, and beautiful. 

They found their way to the shelf of a glacier, gazing out at the golden twilight over the sea. It was a stunning view, profound in a way they couldn't put into words. They removed their goggles and their scarf, letting the cold cut into them. 

Later, if they were to be asked, they couldn't tell you if they made the choice to step forward or if they became too numb to control their limbs. Regardless, they fell into the water below, any awareness remaining too shocked by the cold to formulate any proper thoughts. 

Before they could drown to freeze to death, however, they were pulled out of the water by Aevre, who had continued to keep an eye on them. Here, while Carter was truly on the verge of death, Aevre offered one last time to transform them. To spare them, to save them, regardless of whether or not they would protect her biome.  

Here, quietly, Carter agreed. 

In a moment, energy flooded through them. It felt like something taken; it felt like something given. Flesh gave way to spirit, lifting them up — and then they fell to the ground, made anew. 

Kanu — as they would come to call themself — met the gaze of Aevre, who watched them with unreadable eyes. Kanu nodded once, expressing the only acknowledgement and gratefulness they could bear to give, and turned away. 

After all, with this, they have failed. They failed to prove that they were better than what everyone thought of them. They failed to be the kind of person they wanted to be. They were moved by the Antarctic, but the curdling feeling of failure lingered within them. 

Even though Aevre had not asked them to protect her biome in exchange for the transformation that Kanu finally accepted, Kanu felt a calling to that duty. A sense of responsibility for them to do what they could. They used their powers to guide the lost (but not hopelessly lost) and push out those who would seek to harm the polar biome. One might say they were kind, but not gentle — embittered by their "death" for a long time to come, but with no desire to drag others into their misery. This new life was enough. It had to be. 

Or, perhaps, they were simply waiting, frozen in time and in spirit, for something to change. Perhaps one day, Kanu would make a home of what was their grave.

🎇INTRODUCTION🎇

Howdy! I’m Spirit (or Spit) and I’m a self proclaimed artist that specializes in primarily science fiction artwork. My favorite things to draw and design are aliens, mecha, monsters, and critters of all kinds. For fan art, the main fandoms I make art for are Transformers, Fossil Fighters, Pokémon, and occasionally Star Wars. However, the VAST majority of my fan work is going to be Transformers. Specifically Transformers Prime. I’ve been deep in robot hell since 2015 and I’m showing no signs of ever resurfacing any time soon. 💀

I’m currently working on getting my bachelor’s in Geology, so my art posts may be sporadic. I love all sorts of forms of science! My favorites being Geology (of course), Paleontology, Biology (specifically Marine, evolutionary, and Astro), Meteorology, Oceanography, and Astronomy! I’m hoping to go into researching hydrothermal vent systems, the ocean floor, or really anything involving plate tectonics and volcanism. (I do hope to weasel my way into astrobiology eventually. And maybe even interning with NASA again in the future as space exploration regarding the evidence of extraterrestrial life is a huge passion of mine)

I also absolutely ADORE science fiction worldbuilding and speculative biology! I’d love to post more of my insanity regarding that sort of thing in the future, may it be wholly original work or not. (Spec bio documents and ref sheets on preexisting alien races from fiction for example)

🌌SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS:🌌

SPITCORE 2 ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: It’s literally just my catchall playlist where I drop everything and anything that scratches my brain even just a little bit. It’s got a shitton of Muse and Nothing but Thieves on it. And it’s like over thirty hours long.

WOAH!! EMCORE!!: This is a playlist based on my OC Requiem that’s a combination of stuff I think fits her and songs she’d like. Take a guess which is which. It’s essentially angsty alt rock and metal, old fandom songs, things you’d find in warrior cats AMVs and flipnotes back in 2012, and the like. <3

SWEEB: This is my TFP Soundwave themed playlist! It’s an uh…. Mess. This playlist consists of a mix of alternative rock, progressive rock and metal, some EDM, and some indie. Which,,, is probably not what you’d expect for a TFP Soundwave playlist? Especially since the EDM takes a backseat from the alt in this one.

As for subject matter: it’s a mix of stuff I think actually does fit the character in question may it be by canon or by personal headcanon, (general hc and RiD2015!Rewritten) and the stuff I had blasting on repeat while drawing/writing stuff of this guy which is a hit or miss on if it ACTUALLY fits or not. ((oh, fun! okay so firstly - i'm not a very online person. i use tumblr very similarly to pintrest where i just reblog shit and occasionally make a post commenting on whatever thing i'm thinking about. i dont normally talk about my personal life unless asked, so with all the respect in the world, you actually don't know what i've been doing. I'm genuinely so, SO happy for both max and ethan!! idk which got which but either one makes me stupid happy :D they both deserve love and prosperity /g

as for myself, i've started college! im working on a degree in marine biology! ill also be moving to oregon this spring to help my aunt with her local tourist business while i try to get a proper foot out of texas and work on furthering my ftm transition! thanks, abbot :'D

also, i assume you're still in contact with ethan? tell him i said hi and i hope he's doing okay! things were really rough towards the end but i really do cherish the moments we spent together. im grateful for him to have been in my life and i wish him the best in his own!

also, yeahhhh i've really gotten into TMA recently and joined an adults only discord roleplay server with a bunch of really lovely people who've just been so chill and amazing it's really turned my entire outlook on life upside down hehe! anyway, yeah, gale made a blog for their character and i got their permission to snatch the idea and make one for alex as well!! shoutout to The Magnus Instocol server! amazing, lovely people who've actually genuinely helped me with my writing outside of roleplay :D also kudos to them for putting up with my more neurodiverse momence, im so extremely grateful.
