first of all im kicking myself bc i read a tumblr post or fic or SOMETHING online somewhere before that inspired a small bit of how i imagine tommy would propose, and now i can’t find it??? so if this*** sounds familiar it’s definitely based on something i’m just blanking on what it is and will give full credit to op or whatever fucking thing im forgetting. this is also partly based off of how my dad and my mom became official

similar to jake and amy, i imagine them having a really goofy and sweet proposal story, like tommy has to ask maria a million times or sometimes does fake-outs like jim from the office, and maybe it’s something the entirety of jackson is invested.

im also thinking maybe maria wouldn’t want to reallyget married again, not necessarily because of her late husband but more because jackson just makes such a fuss out of weddings and she does not have time to plan that shit and she had a big wedding for her first marriage for the sake of her mother and hated it, so yeah no. she’s just maybe not big on getting married, and for the first bit of time she’s with tommy, she know he really likes her but isn’t surely thinking he wants anything serious. so for a while, maybe a year and a half to two years in, it’s just them being in love as tommy and maria, more partners than anything else to eachother, and that’s just fine with her

so imagine her surprise when one day her and tommy are eating dinner in the dining hall and one of jackson’s biggest gossips comes over and is like “y’all are just too darn cute—now tommy, when are we gonna see a ring on that finger?? it’s a shame this lady aint tied down” and tommy, cool as a fucking cucumber, just goes “oh don’t you worry, i got plans for that” because ??????????? huh????—?

she has to hold back choking on her fucking drink, she’s so taken aback. she waits until whoever that was goes on their marry fuckin way and then blinks, going “um????? you’ve got plans???” because maria is always the one with the plans. tommy hates plans. he says he loves that she loves them, but in a life an unpredictable as this, they often just get in the way; she doesn’t always disagree. but now, apparently, his plan for marriage is sure as his shooting aim, because he just smiles at her a dashingly and winks, murmuring out a smooth and flirty “yes, ma’am. i do i have plans.” for the rest of the dinner, her left leg bounces shakily under the table as he smirks as her from across .

because suddenly marriage doesn’t sound so bad, not when it’s marriage to her handsome cowboy goofball; the wedding she would still definitely rather just skip, but she’s sure she can convince tommy of that later. so for the rest of the night and week and month, she is on Red Alert to be proposed to, and unfortunately it just wracks her nervse

but because tommy is Tommy, he lovingly teases and fucks with her just perfectly enough to settle her mind down. he starts mixing in fake-out proposals (he does the shoe-tying one from the office while they’re hiking and watching a sunset during a romantic preproposal date two-person patrol, and she threatens to kick him off the cliff) with joking little asks for her hand in between mundane requests (hey baby, could you be a dear and marry me, then pass me the salt? im kiddin, just kiddin, i aint gonna ask like tha—what? what?? maria! come back!), also mixed with genuinely breathtaking little notes to declare how much he loves her one every few days (a note left on her dresser for her to wake up to one rare morning where tommy was up and out before her: “hey baby. just wanted to let you know how much i love you and how lucky i am to be here with you in my life. you guide me toward a greatness i never thought i could even achieve. i want to make you happy everyday. i can’t wait to call you my wife. seeya at lunch, mi vida. yours, tommy”) until eventually the pressure of being asked The Big Thing isn’t something she’s so anxious for anymore, until thinking about it just makes her smile. she’s looking forward to tommy being her husband more than anything

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT BONAVENTURE The Patron of Bowel Disorders Feast Day: July 15

Known as Doctor Seraphicus (Seraphic Doctor) and the 7th Minister General of the Franciscan Order, Bonaventure was born Giovanni di Fidanza, at Civita di Bagnoregio near Viterbo, Latium, then part of the Papal States in the year 1221. Almost nothing is known of his childhood, other than the names of his parents, Giovanni di Fidanza and Maria di Ritella. Bonaventure did suffer from a life threatening illness effecting the bowels as a young child, and that prayer to St. Francis of Assisi saved his life.

In 1243, he entered the Franciscan Order at the age of 22, changing his name of Giovanni into Bonaventure, (meaning 'Happy-Future'). In Paris where he was sent to complete his studies at the University of Paris (Sorbonne), possibly under Alexander of Hales, and certainly under Alexander's successor, John of Rochelle. He became an intimate friend of Thomas Aquinas. When the latter asked him what was the source of his wisdom, he showed him a crucifix. He made his studies a continuation of prayer, and prayer for preparation for study.

A remarkable cheerfulness always appeared on his face, confirming what he used to say: 'A spiritual joy is the greatest son of the divine grace dwelling in a soul.'

Three years earlier his fame had earned him the position of lecturer on The Four Books of Sentences—a book of theology written by Peter Lombard in the twelfth century—and in 1255 he received the degree of master, the medieval equivalent of doctor.

At the age of 35, Bonaventure was chosen Minister General of the Franciscans and healed the division caused by the different interpretations of the vow of poverty. Thomas Aquinas, coming one day while Bonaventure was writing the Biography of St. Francis, saw him through the door of his cell in contemplation. Going away he said: 'Let us leave a saint to work for a saint.'

On November 24, 1265, he was selected for the post of Archbishop of York; however, he was never consecrated and resigned the appointment in October 1266.

In 1273, Pope Gregory X sent some delegates from Rome to appoint him Cardinal. When the delegation showed up at Bonaventure's friary at Mugello, they found him washing the dishes. He actually sent them outside to wait for him to finish the dishes. Legend has it, he asked them to leave the red hat (galero) on a tree outside. So the saint finished washing the dishes and then came to greet the papal delegation.

Bonaventure played a prominent role in the Council of Lyons which was called to bring about a reunion with the Eastern churches. Thomas Aquinas died on his way to the same council. A temporary reunion of the churches was achieved and Bonaventure preached at the Mass of reconciliation. However, he did not live to see Constantinople repudiate the reunion.

At the age of 52 on July 15, 1274, while attending the Second Council of Lyons in France, Bonaventure suddenly died and under suspicious circumstances in Lyon, Lyonnais, Kingdom of Burgundy-Arles (present-day France).

Bonaventure's feast day was included in the General Roman Calendar immediately upon his canonization in 1482. It was at first celebrated on the second Sunday in July, but was moved in 1568 to July 14, since July 15, the anniversary of his death, was at that time taken up with the feast of Saint Henry.

It remained on that date, with the rank of 'double', until 1960, when it was reclassified as a feast of the third class. In 1969, it was classified as an obligatory memorial and assigned to the date of his death.

Today, the Church remembers St. Bonaventure.

He was born at Bagnorea in Umbria, not far from Viterbo, then part of the Papal States. Almost nothing is known of his childhood, other than the names of his parents, Giovanni di Fidanza and Maria di Ritella.

He entered the Franciscan Order in 1243 and studied at the University of Paris. In 1253 he held the Franciscan chair at Paris. A dispute between seculars and mendicants delayed his reception as Master until 1257, where his degree was taken in company with Thomas Aquinas. Three years earlier his fame had earned him the position of lecturer on The Four Books of Sentences—a book of theology written by Peter Lombard in the twelfth century—and in 1255 he received the degree of master, the medieval equivalent of doctor. After having successfully defended his order against the reproaches of the anti-mendicant party, he was elected Minister General of the Franciscan Order. On 24 November 1265, he was selected for the post of Archbishop of York; however, he was never consecrated and resigned the appointment in October 1266.

Bonaventure was instrumental in procuring the election of Pope Gregory X, who rewarded him with the title of Cardinal Bishop of Albano, and insisted on his presence at the great Second Council of Lyon in 1274. There, after his significant contributions led to a union of the Greek and Latin churches, Bonaventure died suddenly and in suspicious circumstances.

He steered the Franciscans on a moderate and intellectual course that made them the most prominent order in the Catholic Church until the coming of the Jesuits. His theology was marked by an attempt completely to integrate faith and reason. He thought of Christ as the "one true master" who offers humans knowledge that begins in faith, is developed through rational understanding, and is perfected by mystical union with God.

Bonaventure was formally canonised in 1484 by the Franciscan Pope Sixtus IV, and ranked along with Thomas Aquinas as the greatest of the Doctors of the Church by another Franciscan, Pope Sixtus V, in 1587. Bonaventure was regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of the Middle Ages.

Bonaventure wrote on almost every subject treated by the Schoolmen, and his writings are very numerous. The greater number of them deal with philosophy and theology. No work of Bonaventure's is exclusively philosophical, a striking illustration of the mutual interpenetration of philosophy and theology that is a distinguishing mark of the Scholastic period.

Much of St. Bonaventure’s philosophical thought shows a considerable influence by St. Augustine. So much so that De Wulf considers him the best medieval representative of Augustinianism. St. Bonaventure adds Aristotelian principles to the Augustinian doctrine, especially in connection with the illumination of the intellect and the composition of human beings and other living creatures in terms of matter and form. Augustine, who had introduced into the west many of the doctrines that would define scholastic philosophy, was an incredibly important source of Bonaventure's Platonism. The mystic Dionysius the Areopagite was another notable influence.

In philosophy Bonaventure presents a marked contrast to his contemporaries, Roger Bacon, Albert the Great, and Thomas Aquinas. While these may be taken as representing, respectively, physical science yet in its infancy, and Aristotelian scholasticism in its most perfect form, he presents the mystical and Platonizing mode of speculation that had already, to some extent, found expression in Hugo and Richard of St. Victor, Alexander of Hales, and in Bernard of Clairvaux. To him, the purely intellectual element, though never absent, is of inferior interest when compared with the living power of the affections or the heart.

Like Thomas Aquinas, with whom he shared numerous profound agreements in matters theological and philosophical, he combated the Aristotelian notion of the eternity of the world vigorously (though he disagreed with Aquinas about the abstract possibility of an eternal universe). Bonaventure accepts the neo-Platonic doctrine that "forms" do not exist as subsistent entities, but as ideals or archetypes in the mind of God, according to which actual things were formed; and this conception has no slight influence upon his philosophy.

Like all the great scholastic doctors, Bonaventura starts with the discussion of the relations between reason and faith. All the sciences are but the handmaids of theology; reason can discover some of the moral truths that form the groundwork of the Christian system, but others it can only receive and apprehend through divine illumination. To obtain this illumination, the soul must employ the proper means, which are prayer, the exercise of the virtues, whereby it is rendered fit to accept the divine light, and meditation that may rise even to ecstatic union with God. The supreme end of life is such union, union in contemplation or intellect and in intense absorbing love; but it cannot be entirely reached in this life, and remains as a hope for the future.

Like Aquinas and other notable thirteenth-century philosophers and theologians, Bonaventure believed that it is possible to prove the existence of God and the immortality of the soul. He offers several arguments for the existence of God, including versions of St. Anselm's ontological argument and Augustine's argument from eternal truths. His main argument for the immortality of the soul appeals to humans' natural desire for perfect happiness, and is reminiscent of C. S. Lewis's argument from desire. Contrary to Aquinas, Bonaventure did not believe that philosophy was an autonomous disciple that could be pursued successfully independently of theology. Any philosopher is bound to fall into serious error, he believed, who lacks the light of faith.

A master of the memorable phrase, Bonaventure held that philosophy opens the mind to at least three different routes humans can take on their journey to God. Non-intellectual material creatures he conceived as shadows and vestiges (literally, footprints) of God, understood as the ultimate cause of a world philosophical reason can prove was created at a first moment in time. Intellectual creatures he conceived of as images and likenesses of God, the workings of the human mind and will leading us to God understood as illuminator of knowledge and donor of grace and virtue. The final route to God is the route of being, in which Bonaventure brought Anselm's argument together with Aristotelian and Neoplatonic metaphysics to view God as the absolutely perfect being whose essence entails its existence, an absolutely simple being that causes all other, composite beings to exist.

Bonaventure, however, is not only a meditative thinker, whose works may form good manuals of devotion; he is a dogmatic theologian of high rank, and on all the disputed questions of scholastic thought, such as universals, matter, seminal reasons, the principle of individuation, or the intellectus agens, he gives weighty and well-reasoned decisions. He agrees with Saint Albert the Great in regarding theology as a practical science; its truths, according to his view, are peculiarly adapted to influence the affections. He discusses very carefully the nature and meaning of the divine attributes; considers universals to be the ideal forms pre-existing in the divine mind according to which things were shaped; holds matter to be pure potentiality that receives individual being and determinateness from the formative power of God, acting according to the ideas; and finally maintains that the agent intellect has no separate existence. On these and on many other points of scholastic philosophy the "Seraphic Doctor" exhibits a combination of subtlety and moderation, which makes his works particularly valuable.

In form and intent the work of St. Bonaventure is always the work of a theologian; he writes as one for whom the only angle of vision and the proximate criterion of truth is the Christian faith. This fact influences his importance for the history of philosophy; when coupled with his style, it makes Bonaventure perhaps the least accessible of the major figures of the thirteenth century. This is true, not because he is a theologian, but because philosophy interests him largely as a praeparatio evangelica, a preparation for evangelism, as something to be interpreted as a foreshadow of or deviation from what God has revealed.

In a way that is not true of Aquinas or Albert or Scotus, Bonaventure does not survive well the transition from his time to ours. It is difficult to imagine a contemporary philosopher, Christian or not, citing a passage from Bonaventure to make a specifically philosophical point. One must know philosophers to read Bonaventure, but the study of Bonaventure is seldom helpful for understanding philosophers and their characteristic problems. Bonaventure as a theologian is something different again, as is Bonaventure the edifying author. It is in those areas, rather than in philosophy proper, that his continuing importance must be sought.

Almighty God, you gave to your servant Bonaventure special gifts of grace to understand and teach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus: Grant that by this teaching we may know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

It’s months later, and Michael and Alex are well and truly in love, and with their chosen family surrounding them, they’re happier than they ever have been. They’re trying their best to live their lives without having to look over their shoulders, and they’re getting there.

But one day Michael, Isobel, Dallas and Max are suddenly inundated with all the memories of their lives before their parents put them into their pods. At first, they think it’s a blessing, knowing where they came from, having a firm understanding of the events leading up to the crash, but what happens when it’s their loved ones that are left to pay the price?

*** Michael removed his cowboy hat a moment later, placing it on the table to join the empty beer bottles. He then bent down, nuzzling into Alex’s neck before giving the side of his face a quick kiss. Alex leaned into it lovingly, which elicited a long drawn out awwwww, from Isobel across the booth.

“You guys are too cute,” she said a moment later.

“You’re drunk,” Alex said, taking a sip of his beer.

Maria laughed, nodding her head in agreement. “No, you guys are pretty darn cute.”

Alex scowled. Nope, he was not having this. He was many things yes: a war veteran, a cyber intelligence specialist, a Purple Heart airman, but the one thing he was not was cute. He could probably kill a man with his bare hands if he wanted to.

“Oh, yeah, you guys are super adorable,” Dallas said, a knowing smile broadening across his features.

Michael had his chin resting on top of Alex’s head, his arms hanging loosely around the other man’s upper body. He chuckled softly into Alex’s hair, knowing how much his boyfriend absolutely hated that adjective.

“Hear that, babe?” Michael said, his voice teasing as he buried his face into his neck, squeezing the man tightly between his arms. “We’re so fucking cute!” He proceeded to rock them back and forth in Alex’s chair, planting kisses all over the side of his boyfriend’s face.

“We’re not! Get off!” Alex tried to break away from the embrace, but to no avail, although now he couldn’t stop himself from smiling no matter how hard he tried. He noticed the teasing grin on Michael’s face, and it only made his heart flutter even more.

He shook his head as he grabbed his bottle of beer. Just as he was about to take a sip of the alcohol, Michael grabbed it from his hand and downed the rest of it in one go.

“Guerin! That was mine,” he said, watching as his boyfriend slammed the bottle back on the table. Alex looked at him, trying not to laugh, but Michael had already let him go and was walking backwards away from the table.

“What’s yours is mine, baby,” he said with a wink. Alex rolled his eyes, then watched as the other man turned towards the bar, obviously seeking out a beer of his own.

“Oh my god, all this sugar is going to make my teeth rot,” Isobel said, fanning herself with her hand. Maria grinned beside her, and they clinked their bottles. Alex looked between them, far from impressed.

Maria laughed as she took another sip of her beer. “So fucking cute,” she mocked.

Alex looked at her, deadpan.“ I hate you all.”

“You love us, really,” she said as she leaned over to cup his chin. Alex felt the edges of his mouth turn up once more, because yeah, he really did.

Maria stood then, figuring it was best to head to the bar to serve Michael before he decided to raid the place.

I’ve percolated on this for the whole season & 10 days so here is my probably unpopular opinion.

I wish Maria & Greg weren’t a thing this season. I wish they both had the opportunity to grow, with brief flirty interactions & that next season we got to see them get together. Because looking back, it just feels like Greg was there strictly as a love interest for Maria, and that felt forced.

Do I think they’re good together? Yes.

Do I want to see them together in season 4? Yes.

But I’m kinda sick of main characters NEEDING a love interest in order to be considered compelling. Maria’s journey this season WAS compelling (episode 3:08 will be my favorite forever & ever amen).

Greg was just an unnecessary tagalong for the ride. I would have rather seen him grow in his relationship with Alex, with cute little *bumps* into Maria along the way. Her oblivious that he’s crushing & Alex teasing him.

Man now that I’ve gotten this into words I’m even more annoyed it’s not what we got. Any fanfic writers wanna help a girl out?

The club is loud, in the chaotic way it always was. Too many bodies moving around each other as they interacted and attempted to make different sorts of business deals. Which was the exact thing Maria saw the entire career field as. Business transactions, homework for her degree. Or that’s what she always told her friends and mother when they asked what she did on the weekends.

Her heels clack against the floor, the boots strapped on up to her thighs. It kept unsavory patrons from taking advantage of so much bare skin.

“Maria,” one of the other girls hisses, waving her over. “There’s an entire naval unit.”

She arches an eyebrow, “this far inshore?”

The blonde giggles, “I don’t think they deploy often. But they’ve been tipping well. One already proposed to Daisy, like it was some sort of oldies song.”

Maria laughs, one of those ones that echo like a bell through the room. “Is my lipstick good?” She hadn’t had too much time to secure her face before leaving the apartment, her roommates giving her side looks.

The girl nods frantically, “purple looks good on you! I never can go outside mauves.”

“Well hopefully the ensigns think so too,” she sighs, “with the economy.”

“You drive back to your hometown every week right?” She asks turning around, “can you zip me up?”

The blonde’s leather top zips all the way up her neck, notably hard to get herself. So Maria easily flicks the zipper up, they’re the few who chose leather, catering to a certain sub group of men. A group Maria felt more comfortable with, unlike the girls in pastel skirts and halter tops. She liked to smirk and use her boots to remind them who called the shots.

“Where are they at?” She asks conversationally.

“In the corner by the bar,” she says, Destiny was her stage name. Something Maria was certain wasn’t her actual name, unless her parents accidentally set up her life path at birth.

Which was why Maria’s name was her stage name, no one expected strippers to be so casual. It shocked all sorts of men when they asked for her real name, made them assume her name was something like Alisha.

“Want to head over with me?” Destiny asks, as she secures the garters on her thighs. Something Maria didn’t use, just her cleavage and the top of her boots.

Maria nods, “are they relatively rowdy?”

Destiny shakes her head, “just like most groups of guys. Better than a bachelor party.”

She takes a deep breath before walking outside of the backstage area, fully slipping into character. A self satisfied smirk on her face as they make their way to the group. Their white and blue uniforms making them pop in the lighting.

Her hips sway in her leather skirt as she drags her fingers across one officer’s back, smiling brightly at him. “Hello officers,” she says an octave deeper than she was accustomed to.

The man she currently has her claws on turns to face her, visibly gulping as his dark eyes are swallowed up by his pupils. “Maria?”

Her eyes widen in shock and recognition, as she snatches her hand back from the younger Manes boy. His eyes look a lot like Flint’s, just softer some how.

“Wait,” he gulps.

Her smile is faltering, becoming more strained as she tries to stay in character. “Anything I can do for you? A dance?” The offer comes out high pitched, ruining her persona.

His cheeks have turned a bright red, eyes darting to his buddies. Like their respective graduation’s from Roswell High were some dirty secret.

“Of course ma’am,” it manages to sound more strained than her own voice.

Maria nods, not sure how long she can keep this up. She’s looking at the kid brother to her high school ex. The kid brother who is currently drinking in all her curves in a hungry way, biting his lip, and wringing his hands together nervously.

“A dance would be good,” Gregory blushes, “what’s your rate?”

She blinks, letting her hand slide down the front of his chest. “I’ll give you the discount darlin’,” she lets the hometown slang enter her tone.

He gulps, “oh.”
