Random fic idea: Cedric Porter remembers the time loops or some of them
Ok but um… what if, instead of the capture targets remembering… it’s our number one, overworked, highly capable, best aide that remembers the time loops. Like he remembers at least 2. One where Penelope and Callisto are a thing and she dies with Callisto following after going off the rails with a murderous rampage, and one where they don’t get together and Leila happens.
- He remembers at the end of the war just as they’re making the preparations to return to Eorka
- He’s older than Callisto by a few years and was actually his tutor while he was on the battlefield. Like, he was young when he went in, who the F finished his royal instructions. Cedric is a genius and nothing anyone says can change that.
- He goes into planning mode, first he plans dates for Callisto and Penelope. And also starts trying to teach him on romance and normal human interactions. Callisto goes along with it to humour him
Cedric: Your highness, women are like chocolates
Callisto: I hate super sweet things. You’re saying I should crush them under my boots?
Cedric: Alright, let’s try that again… women are like dark chocolates
Callisto: So I should devour every one of them?
Cedric panics and says no: Alright, so think of them as rabbits…
Callisto: Hunt them?
Cedric: Your highness! Please stop being so obtuse!
Callisto just smirks and motions for him to go on.
- He deliberately makes Callisto pass through the corridor where he knows Penelope was being harassed by a drunk nobleman during the Victory Banquet. Callisto basically saves Penelope and she thanks him, looking him in the eyes without stuttering, blushing, or cowering in fear and he becomes interested since that’s a first when it came to women or any civilians actually.
- Callisto and Penelope become friends with Penelope seeing him as her hero and they write back and forth. He becomes incredibly protective of her and unknowingly becomes smitten which is what Cedric had planned
- Cedric dropping hints for outings (dates) and arranging things for Callisto before he even says anything. Also pushes for the Leila hunt and has his own plans for her
- Cedric and Callisto’s efficiency quadruples for a short while since Cedric already has some foresight into what happens for the next few months which frees up a lot of their time
- Cedric makes some contingencies for the hunting festival but otherwise leaves it alone. He knows Callisto needs some alone time with Penelope and he already knows the man will pull through from the poison
- He realizes he miscalculated just a smidge when he sees hickeys on Callisto after the assassination attempt while he was unconscious
- Cedric helps him take care of the Delman uprising easily and is already anticipating the movements of the second prince and the Leila so the Emperor survives while the Second Prince, the Queen, and the entirety of the Allen family is put to the sword along with a few other noble families that had participated in the coup
- He isn’t surprised that Callisto and Penelope are planning to get married immediately because he already had a feeling that she had gotten pregnant during the hunting festival
- He eventually confesses the time loops to Callisto who is only angry that he let Penelope be in danger during the hunt but otherwise lets it pass and admits that Penelope does remember the time loops as well, but there were more than just two, there were dozens if not hundreds to which Cedric shuddered
- Cedric also realized he had shot himself in the foot when Callisto tells him that he won’t be able to retire now and this is proven true when his children eventually become aides to the Imperial children and their descendants follow along

I’ve percolated on this for the whole season & 10 days so here is my probably unpopular opinion.
I wish Maria & Greg weren’t a thing this season. I wish they both had the opportunity to grow, with brief flirty interactions & that next season we got to see them get together. Because looking back, it just feels like Greg was there strictly as a love interest for Maria, and that felt forced.
Do I think they’re good together? Yes.
Do I want to see them together in season 4? Yes.
But I’m kinda sick of main characters NEEDING a love interest in order to be considered compelling. Maria’s journey this season WAS compelling (episode 3:08 will be my favorite forever & ever amen).
Greg was just an unnecessary tagalong for the ride. I would have rather seen him grow in his relationship with Alex, with cute little *bumps* into Maria along the way. Her oblivious that he’s crushing & Alex teasing him.
Man now that I’ve gotten this into words I’m even more annoyed it’s not what we got. Any fanfic writers wanna help a girl out?

Through the clouds, I see love shine
Little fic for @unbearable22, thank you for putting this song in my head while I was doing homework 😆 Hope you enjoy! (Read on AO3)
In my life, there's been heartache and pain
I don't know if I can face it again
Can't stop now, I've traveled so far
To change this lonely life
Michael was sitting on the bed of his truck, leaning his weight on his left arm, legs slightly crossed so he could fit. His hat was off, the fingers on his right hand playing with its hem. He was looking at the man in front of him, who was leaning his back against the truck, a laptop positioned on his thighs. Alex looked peaceful, even if nothing about this situation brought peace, the features on his face were relaxed.
They were somewhere in the mountains where Michael had driven them, following a certain signal, stopping every once in a while under a radio post, allowing Alex to connect the Lockhart machine to the post and observe the frequencies and code something that would lead to understanding the machine better. They had talked about the machine some more after Michael had been allowed into Deep Sky to get a look at it, Alex focusing more on the informatic part of it, whereas Michael was more interested in the mechanics and the alien tech used.
This time, their stop was quite long, Alex seemingly having found what he was looking for. In reality, they both knew that Alex could’ve done this all alone, it didn’t require any of Michael’s special skills, they weren’t after Jones or anyone, anything, particularly dangerous. They were just after radio signals for the Lockhart machine. But the fact that Alex had asked Michael to accompany him meant a lot to the both of them and so they drove away from Roswell.
When they were driving they would mostly talk about the machine, about the different theories they had. But once they stopped, Alex would take his computer out and Michael would sit silently, either next to him, or in front of him, and would think. He would think of Alex, of them together.
They didn’t really get a chance to properly talk after the kiss. They did talk about their relationship, and had agreed not to fall back into old habits. But, then, Alex had gotten Michael clearance to get into Deep Sky and the machine had been their main focus.
“Michael?” Alex said, with a smile. Michael realised that he probably had been talking and stopped seeing that Michael wasn’t paying attention.
“Huh,” Michael asked, bringing his thoughts back to the present, “sorry, you were saying?”
“Are you okay?” Alex asked instead, putting his computer to the side, his entire attention on Michael.
Michael breathed out deeply, gathering his thoughts before answering. They both were making efforts on communication, and Michael wasn’t going to stop there. “I, uh, I don’t want to mess this up,” he said with a faint smile, looking back up at Alex.
“I’m guessing you’re not talking about this very boring mission,” he said, with a smile, closing his laptop and waving to Michael to sit next to him.
Michael scooped himself up smiling back at Alex and sat down next to him, turning his upper body so that they were still facing.
“I don’t want to mess us up either,” said Alex once Michael had stopped moving.
“So what do we do then?” asked Michael, his voice low, barely a whisper, feeling like if maybe he said it louder it would curse them. “Because I know we can do better Alex, I know we can be together without hurting each other.” He breathed deeply and blinked a few times, feeling his eyes sting with the beginning of tears. “I am done with all the pain and heartbreak in my life, I just want to love you, freely.”
He raised his head, as if it was a challenge to the universe. Alex put his hand to Michael’s cheek, wiping the tears there with his thumb, ignoring his own. Michael however, not one to ignore Alex’s emotions, brought his hand to mirror the gesture, bumping their arms and making them laugh a bit, before it died down, and they were back in the current time, in the current conversation.
“I think,” started Alex, “that out of the two of us you’re the one with more experience with free love.” Michael shrugged at that, and Alex decided to move on, neither wanting to reminisce about the past, but rather choosing to look towards the future, their future. “I want you to show me what it’s like, Michael. I want to experience everything with you. I want-” he cut himself with a breath, “I want to know what it’s like to not be scared of loving you, Michael.”
They stared at each other, only now realising that it was the first time either of them said that word in present tense. I love you. Three words that for the longest time have been unspoken between them, and finally, breached the surface.
“And as for what we should do,” Alex continued with a sniff, “how about we start with dinner?” he asked, looking into Michael’s eyes.
“Your place or mine?” replied Michael, with a breathless chuckle.
“How about the Roadrunner Cafe? We could definitely make it there for 8 tonight,” Alex replied with a nervous chuckle. The Roadrunner wasn’t so different to the Crashdown - less good quality, obviously - and it wasn’t something too fancy. But it was different. It felt more important somehow, like there was no mistaking in what Alex meant. Not dinner as ‘friends’, but dinner as boyfriends.
Michael looked at him with a smile, “I don’t know about you but I’d probably feel bad, you know? Cheating on Arturo like that.”
Alex laughed at that, “Fair enough, rumors go around quickly in this town.” He looked at Michael with so much softness in his eyes, his face and his body relaxed, that Michael needed to actively fight his instincts, not to jump Alex and kiss him, right here and there, but he also knew that they couldn’t fall back into who they were before. Not if they wanted them to work out. And judging by the way Alex cleared his throat, looking pointedly at Michael’s lips, he would say he wasn’t the only one in that state.
“So, it’s a date, huh?” Michael asked, wanting to make sure they were clear, on the same page, before they did anything else. “Us, tonight at the Crashdown. And not as friends, right?”
Alex chuckled and leaned closer, “I mean I thought we were friends.” At Michael’s teasing raised eyebrow, he quickly added, “but yes, tonight we’re having dinner in the best place in town, as boyfriends.”
As Alex talked, he leaned in closer and closer, until the final word was whispered, Michael feeling it more than hearing it, the two men crashing their mouths together. But unlike all the times they kissed in the last decade, until the night at the Wild Pony, that kiss was slow. Still burning like fire, but without an expiration date.
In the end, they drove back into Roswell, and parked outside the Crashdown. From the moment they walked out Michael’s truck, until they sat down at a booth, their fingers were intertwined. And once they were seated, their bodies touching, from shoulder to knee, Alex on Michael’s left. They knew that people were looking at them, but neither cared. They were too busy getting to know what being loved felt like.
I wanna know what love is
I want you to show me
I wanna feel what love is
I know you can show me

for @yonkyu13’s prompt of Maria/Dancing, not quite dancing but I was listening to Strip No More by Lukas Graham and this was born
The club is loud, in the chaotic way it always was. Too many bodies moving around each other as they interacted and attempted to make different sorts of business deals. Which was the exact thing Maria saw the entire career field as. Business transactions, homework for her degree. Or that’s what she always told her friends and mother when they asked what she did on the weekends.
Her heels clack against the floor, the boots strapped on up to her thighs. It kept unsavory patrons from taking advantage of so much bare skin.
“Maria,” one of the other girls hisses, waving her over. “There’s an entire naval unit.”
She arches an eyebrow, “this far inshore?”
The blonde giggles, “I don’t think they deploy often. But they’ve been tipping well. One already proposed to Daisy, like it was some sort of oldies song.”
Maria laughs, one of those ones that echo like a bell through the room. “Is my lipstick good?” She hadn’t had too much time to secure her face before leaving the apartment, her roommates giving her side looks.
The girl nods frantically, “purple looks good on you! I never can go outside mauves.”
“Well hopefully the ensigns think so too,” she sighs, “with the economy.”
“You drive back to your hometown every week right?” She asks turning around, “can you zip me up?”
The blonde’s leather top zips all the way up her neck, notably hard to get herself. So Maria easily flicks the zipper up, they’re the few who chose leather, catering to a certain sub group of men. A group Maria felt more comfortable with, unlike the girls in pastel skirts and halter tops. She liked to smirk and use her boots to remind them who called the shots.
“Where are they at?” She asks conversationally.
“In the corner by the bar,” she says, Destiny was her stage name. Something Maria was certain wasn’t her actual name, unless her parents accidentally set up her life path at birth.
Which was why Maria’s name was her stage name, no one expected strippers to be so casual. It shocked all sorts of men when they asked for her real name, made them assume her name was something like Alisha.
“Want to head over with me?” Destiny asks, as she secures the garters on her thighs. Something Maria didn’t use, just her cleavage and the top of her boots.
Maria nods, “are they relatively rowdy?”
Destiny shakes her head, “just like most groups of guys. Better than a bachelor party.”
She takes a deep breath before walking outside of the backstage area, fully slipping into character. A self satisfied smirk on her face as they make their way to the group. Their white and blue uniforms making them pop in the lighting.
Her hips sway in her leather skirt as she drags her fingers across one officer’s back, smiling brightly at him. “Hello officers,” she says an octave deeper than she was accustomed to.
The man she currently has her claws on turns to face her, visibly gulping as his dark eyes are swallowed up by his pupils. “Maria?”
Her eyes widen in shock and recognition, as she snatches her hand back from the younger Manes boy. His eyes look a lot like Flint’s, just softer some how.
“Wait,” he gulps.
Her smile is faltering, becoming more strained as she tries to stay in character. “Anything I can do for you? A dance?” The offer comes out high pitched, ruining her persona.
His cheeks have turned a bright red, eyes darting to his buddies. Like their respective graduation’s from Roswell High were some dirty secret.
“Of course ma’am,” it manages to sound more strained than her own voice.
Maria nods, not sure how long she can keep this up. She’s looking at the kid brother to her high school ex. The kid brother who is currently drinking in all her curves in a hungry way, biting his lip, and wringing his hands together nervously.
“A dance would be good,” Gregory blushes, “what’s your rate?”
She blinks, letting her hand slide down the front of his chest. “I’ll give you the discount darlin’,” she lets the hometown slang enter her tone.
He gulps, “oh.”

I didn’t know you have to wait to register on ao3. This is so bizzare to me. But nwm.
Hi! I would like to join VADtD community and rein hell in here, thanks.
As I mentioned before, I have to wait to access ao3, so I’ll be posting my fics here for a while it seems. Why? Because I can’t wait if I have put an idea in my head.
Looking at some of my colleagues reposting their works in a different language, I decided to follow suit. I hope to refresh my passion for writing by connecting to this part of the fandom. Please, tell me anything, I love to participate in discussions.
So please, read this trash I wrote more than a year ago and leave a comment.
Defeat
Summary: Leila has won. She took over the imperial palace, hordes of her brothers and sisters scour the empire. Penelope lost the war, but if she can pride herself in something, it’s that she hasn’t lost this one battle.
The actual trash:
Penny drags her body against the basement wall. The right leg refuses to move after the enemy archimage hit it with an ice spell.
The ceiling is low, Penny would still not be able to straighten up to her full height, but it's harder to crawl with one working leg.
Penny turns to the man reclining on the cold stone floor.
This outing was hard for both of them. The forces of resistance were melting away before their eyes. No one believed in success anymore. There were mostly people who wanted to die with weapons in their hands. Recently, Penelope ex-Eckart began to consider herself one of such kind.
They defended the northern port together with, who would have thought, the former Delman rebels. Their task was to buy enough time for the ships to sail safely. The pitiful couple of thousand people they were able to gather and save during their desperate retreat to the north, sailed away on them, hoping to hide from the enemies of the ancient magicians in the seas. Ironically, before that, the remnants of the ancient kingdom of Leila were hiding in the seas from them.
Penny was afraid to think about those who lived south of the capital and, thus, did not even have a chance to join them. Only a small part managed to get to the capital and an even smaller part managed to get out of it when Leia captured the palace and the dragon's claws, and hordes of demons who consider themselves gods poured from the southern islands.
Every time someone started telling or reporting on what was going on in the south, Penelope preferred to turn around and leave. She doesn't want to know. She has enough memories of what they tried to do to her.
Oh, yes, a girl with the blood of ancient wizards was great fun for their old enemies. They thought that they had all disappeared, and there would be no one to take revenge for their previous defeat, and she, a fool, herself got in their way. Wasn't it a wonderful gift of fate?
If even Winter's magic was child’s play to them, Penelope has no idea how strong her ancestors were. Leila, it seems, had an idea, because at some point, they began to discuss half-breeds.
Salvation came from where she did not expect. It came in a form of her younger brother Reynold. After she ran away from home and renounced her status as a noblewoman and the family name in general, according to the documents, he was no longer her family, but still acted like a real brother – for the first time in his life — and ran away with her in his arms through the underground corridors of the palace.
Until Derrick blocked their way. He was one of the first people Leia got to. Penelope had been wary of him from the moment Yvonne crossed the threshold of the Eckart estate, she had not seen him for several months. During this time, he became haggard and paler, Penelope could not understand why he was in such a state until he opened his mouth:
«I... I tried to resist, but... This pain and despair, they are... They're eating into you. She wants me to stop you, so that I... U-kill you... Then it will all be over, but...», Derrick grips the hilt of his sword, as does Reynold.
Penelope had never heard Reynold's voice like that... broken. He was always too cocky and hot-tempered for her to imagine him like that, «Please. We can all leave together-the three of us, and... »
«No! It's too late! It's too late... I... I...», The young duke's hands are shaking, as if he's going through a huge pain. He raises his sword, and, «I won't... I won't!»
The heir of the Eckharts pierces his chest with his own sword. Reynold and Penelope both scream. Derrick begins to vomit blood, and he falls to the floor.
«Brother!»
Reynold flies up to him and kneels on the floor, not letting Penelope out of his hands.
«I realized it only recently, but there... is nothing more important... than family... Run, Reynold... And so... rry...», Derrick glances at Penelope and closes his eyes forever.
Reynold is crying like a little baby. Penelope snuggles up to him and hugs his shoulders as much as she can in such an exhausted state. She knows what it's like to lose a family.
Penny turns to the body of the eldest son of the house of Eckhart and wishes him a reunion with his real sister and father, who has already paid the price for not being able to raise his hand on the body of his real daughter.
They get out of the palace, and even the capital, but Reynold has not gone far. The former slave, now the "king", was glad to find himself a queen without the knowledge and, thus, the prohibition of the "empress", and the younger son of the Eckhart, who mocked his mistress and drove him half to death in training, he never liked.
After a small battle, in which Penelope, exhausted by torture, simply could not physically take part, Iklis picks her up and sits in a carriage, taking the former duchess to the north. Penelope howls and cries, mourning her almost brother. The picture of his decapitated body will forever remain a scar on her heart and will haunt her in her dreams for a long time.
Penny thanks all the gods for the fact that a spell pops up in her head, despite the lost wand-mirror, and for the fact that Iklis, unlike Leila, does not know how to block magic. And when the new bastard-king of Delmania tries to get under her skirt, he gets a fireball in the face. And about-to-be-queen flees, disguised as a maid, leaving the body of her former escort in the royal bedchamber strewn with petals of roses that she hates.
Penelope runs through the woods at night without looking backShe's not even a bit ashamed. After this shit, they're even. Moreover, Iklis went mad by himself, and madmen on the throne always have one end - death at the hands of their compatriots, who, in this case, followed him for freedom from the empire, and not into slavery to the demons. A wicked joke. Penelope is bursting with laughter. If Iklis hadn't been obsessed with her, he might have been considered an intelligent king who knelt for the life of his subjects. Penelope stops and laughs out loud.
«Crazy game.»
Who could fix it all?
Of the key characters, only Callisto and Winter remained.
Penelope had heard nothing about the first one. After she gave up the name and ran away in search of the mirror of truth, she never saw him. However, judging by how quickly Leia captured the palace, it would not have been possible without his participation. This was his routine in normal mode afterall. Her heart sank uncomfortably.
As for Winter, Penelope seemed to have heard something about him in the conversations of her torturers. Most likely, he fell into their hands. His fate is unknown, but... But Penny could bet anything, even though she didn't have anything left to bet, that she wouldn't envy.
With such thoughts, she goes further into the depths of the forest and further from the palace, if she is lucky, she will be missed only in the morning. The girl moves through the snowdrifts and frowns at the fact that snowflakes fall on her eyelashes and prevent her from clearly seeing the road. Looking at the snow, Penny wonders how much time she spent in custody — she was captured on her way to the mirror, a couple of weeks after her coming-of-age ceremony, back in the summer. The girl stops and absentmindedly wipes a single tear from her cheek. She shakes his head, now is not the time.
She needs shelter, food, and oh, hell, at least some kind of plan.
She gets to some small village, seemingly untouched by the outbreak of the war. And Penelope understands why - crumbled houses, covered with snow, small farms, an old sawmill and a blacksmith shop, who needs it?
But never say never, because at this moment two emissaries, accompanied by a dozen magicians, enter the village and start convolve the locals.
Why is it that every time someone says "Somebody do something!", it turns out to be her?
The brain screams to turn around and leave before it's too late, but the blood boils with the magic of ancient wizards and asks for battle. And when Leila reaches out to the little girl with a carnivorous smile, lightning pierces his head.
Penelope had enough of this spectacle on the Soleil Island when her not-stepsister ate people alive, thank you. She's had enough.
A scuffle begins. The villagers arm themselves as best they can, mainly with hunting bows. And Penelope finds herself on the front line, and not in her usual position at the back.
After the battle, the girl falls frozen and exhausted loses consciousness.
She wakes up again in the forest, and the head of the local rebel squad, on his knees, asks her to join their ranks. For some reason, the girl does not even think to refuse.
Could Penelope have thought that she would swap the title of a lady to the title of an archimage, long curls to a short ponytail, still curly though, and ball gowns to an army uniform? And the crossbow is replaced by spells, because magic is replenished unlike arrows. Penelope begins to make decisions that she would have made in life, and notes to herself that she has already grown together with Penelope.
During the next planned outing, everything goes wrong. More leilas have suddenly been pulled here, and Penelope can't figure out why, until their squad is knocked out of the encirclement by imperial soldiers.
There is no room for pride now, survival is at stake, and the rebels are joining the troops of the empire.
Her commander calls her to talk to the command, and there she meets the Crown Prince himself. She will never forget his shocked face, although hers was probably no better.
Her commander, without reading the situation, continues to negotiate dispassionately. This sobers Penelope, and she puts an impassive expression on her face, and concentrates her attention on the map. When she looks up at Callisto again, he sends her a look she can't read.
Immediately after the end of the meeting, Penelope goes to the fresh air to breath and somehow calm the raging heart. Having already moved away from the camp, she suddenly hears the crunch of branches behind her. She turns around abruptly, but the spell does not come off her tongue, as she sees golden hair shining under the moonlight, burning ruby eyes and his beautiful face...
He kissed every scar left by the enemies of her kind, licked every tear from her cheeks, hugged her so tightly that Penelope doubted that there was such a force in the world that could pull him away from her at that moment. And most importantly, Penelope finally forgot herself and thought only about him, and not about demons, magicians and deaths, and games, and other dimensions, while he took her right on the grass under the starry sky.
Then, gasping for air, they lie in an embrace. Penny buried her face somewhere between his neck and shoulder and crossed her fingers on the one hand with his. Callisto loosens his grip a little and lifts himself up. Penny looks at him in surprise, but calms down when his cloak falls on her shoulders. Penny snuggles even closer to him and throws her leg over him in a possessive gesture. She hears a soft chuckle, but ignores it, already dozing away. Callisto lifts himself up, although he wants to say something to her and looks at her face, but only clicks his tongue, seeing her closed eyes.
He stays quiet for about five minutes, and then says:
«Just marry me at last.»
Half-asleep Penelope mumbles her agreement and pulls his cloak higher.
A week later they get married in some dilapidated village church. And instead of petals from the sky, fireworks, feasting, dancing and music, the imperial wedding is celebrated with a double ration. That's probably why people were most happy about this wedding.
Penelope was not one of those girls who dreamed of her wedding, imagined the perfect dress, a bouquet, a hall and a cake, but... Looks like Callisto was. Because looking at her in a long white nightgown-yes, it was the best they could come up with—he looked sad and guilty. Penelope adjusts the falling wreath of wildflowers and reaches for a kiss. She's just damn glad that at least Callisto, she was able to defend.
Callisto had prepared the rings in advance, even before her escape. Penelope would have laughed at his arrogance, but now this ring on her finger is the only thing that warms her soul in these dark times.
Penelope has a gold ring on her hand, and every morning she wakes up, though on the ground, but in his embrace. And it seems that life is slowly getting better, despite all this atrocity around, but...
Her newfound friend, an expert in history and archaeology, as well as ancient magicians in particular, and concurrently the young wife of her husband's closest adviser, has a miscarriage. For the first time, Cedric asks his Highness for a day off to spend it with a broken Marien, and Callisto gives it for the first time.
Penelope is ashamed that while wiping the tears of her first friend in this world, she thinks that this is good news. At such times, the birth of a child is not happiness, but a great grief.
Penelope notes to herself that years of forced hunger strikes and months of torture and work at the limit of both physical and magical abilities have most likely made her infertile now. Now and only now, it's good. And Penelope definitely won't cry because of this sudden insight into the pillow, no. The fact that she lost her family, and will not be able to create her own, is not the worst thing that could happen to her in this crazy world. She tries to believe this. Just to save some bits of her sanity left.
A couple of weeks later, they hear that the "empress" has been killed. By her own. Penelope doesn't even have the strength to grin anymore.
The Crown Prince and the Crown Princess decide that this is the right time for their maneuvers. But an offensive on, but an evacuation.
The Crown Prince recalls that during their operations to capture Delmanians, expeditions to the northern seas took place and a couple of islands were discovered. Due to the infertile soil, they were considered unprofitable, and because of the war with the empire, the research was quickly closed, but now these pathetic, useless pieces of land are their best option.
The problem was that lately they had been mostly engaged in partisanship, and they needed ships for thousands of people. Taking small fishing villages would attract attention before at least some acceptable part of the people could escape.
Thus, an operation to seize the commercial port was organized in a short time. The plan was more suicidal, but Penelope can't remember the last time she took part in another one. Apparently, the others were of the same opinion, since it was approved.
Penelope worked as a distraction, bombing enemy magicians with fireballs and lightning. Pulling the leilas greedy for wizards away from the evacuation zone. Callisto, meanwhile, was storming the port from the other side of the city.
Penelope swallowed hastily brewed and hellishly bitter mana replenishment potions, and continued to pour spells on opponents while the ranks of her fellow magicians continued to thin.
At some point, there were a dozen of them left, and a Jean familiar to her, who at first taught her not to pour all the mana into one spell, told her, «Your Highness, go. The last ship is leaving now. We will detain them.»
Unprecedented generosity. Penelope would have been moved if it hadn't been for her inexplicably newfound pride.
«Unfortunately, I married the captain of this sinking ship. We're both not going anywhere.»
«You should. People need someone to lead them.»
«You are “people” too», Penelope retorts, wiping the blood from the wound on her head with a sharp, quick movement.
«If you die here with us, it won't change anything at all.»
Jean reaches out and casts a spell on her, which she herself put on the squad that was going on a preliminary sortie earlier.
«Find His Highness.»
Penelope freezes for a second, but...
«Bye, Jean», she whispers.
But the invisibility spell soon runs out. Penelope takes refuge in an alley, and uses the search spell again. This brings the two leilas to her.
Fights in alleys are terrible and cruel stuff, and when there are three magicians in an alley, it is disgusting and destructive.
Penny has learned to attack first a long time ago. Melt the face of one, depriving the eyes, shield from the spell of the other, counterattack, take a blow and finish off... Penelope gets off with a small loss - a leg. And while the leg is not completely gone, she limps to her man.
There is a real meat grinder going on in the streets of the coastal city, but Penny has learned not to pay attention to it. A soldier in a hurry points her to some building, and runs to help his comrades. Penelope doesn't have time to order him to retreat.
The Crown Princess is already climbing down the wall, and here she is a few meters away from the one she was looking for...
«Why didn't you leave?», such a stupid question that she won’t deign to answer it.
She finally crawls up to him and settles down next to him. Examines him, notes how he holds his hand on his stomach, from under which a spreading bloodstain is already visible.
Penelope has no mana left, no potions, no scrolls, no ordinary bandages, but the woman tiredly notes the ruby ornament clamped between his fingers, which has not shone as brightly as before during treatment for a long time. Penelope Regulus tells herself to calm down.
«Let us take a nap for a while», Penelope lowers her head on her husband’s shoulder, simultaneously intertwining her fingers with his.
Everything is floating in her eyes, white noise in her head. She knows rather than feels that Callisto is forcing himself to exert force to bend his fingers so that he can also hold hers. He exhales heavily and raggedly—and Penny doesn't like the way he wheezes—and puts his head on top of hers.
Penelope is crying for some reason. She suddenly wants to say with all her heart that she loves him more than anything in the world, but her body is so tired, so tired for all this time, starting from the moment she crossed the threshold of the duke's house, that her tongue does not obey, and her eyes close.
When she forces herself to open them by pure force of will, she is sitting on her knees, in some heavy clothes that pinned her to the floor. She abruptly looks up from the floor and sees the young duke swearing at her, because she did something at the banquet again.
Tears continue to flow from the Crown Princess' eyes. She grabs her hand, which now has no wedding ring on it.
Just a reminder that the stakes are high in this game

So for some ungodly reason I keep seeing pro-Maria and ant-alex stuff in the Alex tag today. Which fuck you tumblr I have Maria tags blocked because I don’t want to see pro-Maria stuff usually because Maria stans go real hard on being homophobic in regards to Alex. But today I saw the old ‘interracial relationship rep matters, which is why Miluca is better’ argument comeback around again in the Alex tags. And I fucking hate that argument. Because alex(not Tyler, the character Alex) is a Native American man. So Malex is an interracial couple. Would they still be using this rhetoric if Kiowa had been cast as Alex? Yeah probably since Malex was reduced to a ‘people just want to see the two pretty white men bone’ ship since before Tyler revealed he’s white and I’m sure Maria stans would have happily claimed Alex is white even if he was played by Kiowa. But also. Is Alex Native or not to this particular sector of fandom. Because he’s white when they are shitting on Malex and Alex fans, but Native when they are rightfully calling out Tyler for taking a role not meant for him.
And also, most of the canon relationships on RNM are interracial relationships. Echo, Malex, Noabel, Forlex, Liz/Heath, Miluca(fuck that ship). These are all canon interracial relationships, and others are being set up(delmanes, Kybel). The only relationships on this show that aren’t interracial relationships are Max/Jenna, Kyliz, and Kyle/steph. So is interracial relationship rep only important when it comes to their self insert character getting to make out with Michael Guerin? I’m going to go make myself feel better and finish my Flint and Rosa story so I can start plotting out a Super Soldier Flint Story.🍤🍤🍤
I freaking hate that interracial relationship argument so much! Which I totally understand is true and important!! But as you rightfully pointed out, there are so many interracial relationships on this show!
And whatever, people hated Alex before and when the whole Tyler thing came out they just used it as another excuse to hate his character. 😒
Yes pls write!! I still haven't read your fic yet but I promise I will! I gave my two weeks notice so I've just been absolutely slammed at work and the semester started so I'm wiped all the time ☹️☹️ hopefully soon though!!

Unnamed delmanes 3x08 coda
Following her phone call with Greg, Maria invites him over to the Pony, to celebrate her waking up.
(obviously spoilers for 3x08)
“Hello, Gregory Manes,” Maria said into the phone, smiling. “Hi,” he said on the other side, sounding incredibly relieved, “how are you feeling?” he asked, with so much sincerity in his voice, that Maria had to blink back some tears.
“I’ve been better,” she answered, and continued at the humph she heard on the phone, smiling, “We’re doing, uh, a thing at the Pony right now,” she looked around, seeing the people that had saved her scattered around, the bar being empty except for them, feeling like there were people missing. Kyle and Max, she couldn’t do anything about, right this moment, but Greg on the other hand -
Greg who texted her nearly every day during a pandemic, whether it was random funny images, the latest from online teaching, or just to have a chat. Greg, who since the world had found a sense of normalcy again, had been at the Pony whenever he could, bringing a smile to her lips. Greg who had started a fundraiser because she was in a coma.
“You’re welcome to come if you want, Manes,” she added, hoping he was in Roswell and not back at the reservation, and would be able to (would want to) come. “Yeah sure,” he breathed out, bringing warmth into Maria’s chest, “I’ll be there in 40.”
Sensing that this formulation might be a little too military, Greg quickly added, “See you soon, Maria.” To which Maria responded with a quiet, “You too, Greg.”
After they hung up, she stared down at her phone, biting a smile off her lips, when she was startled by a voice behind her, “Do I have competition?”
She turned around as fast as she could for someone who had been in a restless coma, busy fighting an alien within their own mind, to find Alex, leaning on his left leg, with his arms crossed against his chest, a huge smile on his face, that wasn’t just about her being on the phone with Greg. She smacked his arm lightly, “I should be the one asking that,” she said back, matching his smile. As she realized how that might sound, she widened her eyes, but Alex beat her to it.
“Nah, you’ll always be my best girl,” he winked at her, uncrossing his arms, “But going back to you and Greg-?” he asked, with a smile, as Maria hit his arm again, then huffed.
“I mean, he’s super sweat, very attentionate, has a nice face, and his arms -” she started to say, getting ahead of herself (which she blamed on the fact that she was tired and not on whatever the effect Gregory Manes had on her), when she was interrupted by Alex raising his hand, a scrunch on his face, “I really don’t need to hear a full description of my brother, thanks.”
Maria offered an apologetic smile, and the two fell in comfortable silence, Maria going to sit at a table, seeing Alex lean more and more on his left leg. He realised what she was doing, of course, and smiled at her. They talked some more, about everything and nothing, both wanting, needing, the distraction for the events of the last few days.
The door opened, and Alex, who was in the middle of arguing a point which neither would remember, stopped in his tracks, and stared at the door, a slight smile on his face. Maria didn’t need to be psychic or to turn around to know who had walked in. She also heard him, making a comment about dolphins to Rosa who laughed back. Michael also stopped talking when he walked in, offering a wave of his hat to Alex before sitting at a table with Rosa, still talking about dolphins.
Once Alex had stopped staring and looked back at Maria, everything about their conversation mostly forgotten, he was met with a raised eyebrow and a smile, “Do I have competition?” she asked, mirroring his previous comment.
Not deigning to answer, he just stuck his tongue out, making the two laugh.
When Gregory opened the door to the Pony, precisely 38 minutes after his phone call to Maria (not that he had counted), he found himself in the middle of very lively conversations, a bit too lively for a closed bar in the middle of the night. After having waved at Liz and Isobel talking on Liz’s car in the parking lot, he saw Michael and Rosa deep in conversation, both gesticulating their arms. He could only make out a few words, namely dolphins and bats, and decided he didn’t want to know more, it would probably only be more confusing. And besides, they weren’t the reason he had driven in the middle of the night to a bar.
The reason in question was sitting at a table in the middle of said bar, smiling at him, seemingly alive and well. He exhaled, for the first time in what felt like forever, since Maria was first in a come. Alex, who was sitting opposite Maria, facing the door, stood up, as Greg was making his way over. Alex squeezed his shoulder a few times, turned to face Maria (winking at her, but Greg didn’t need to know that), and left towards Rosa and Michael, joining in on their animal talk.
Greg stood there, a few feet from Maria, holding the Wild Pony hat in his hands, fingers playing with the rim, not knowing what to do. As Maria looked at him, looked in his eyes, she could see the relief in them, and a few tears present. She slowly stood up and crossed the distance between them, not breaking eye contact, and leaned into him, hugging his chest with her arms.
He leaned into the hug, wrapped his arms tight around her waist, breathing her in, taking in the fact that she was alive, and seemed to be doing well, at least physically, and he couldn’t be more glad.
Maria leaned back from the hug and noticed the lack of voices in the background, not entirely sure when the other three had left the room. She motioned the table with her hand, inviting Gregory to sit, and went to get him a beer.
When she sat back down, he scooped his chair closer to hers, and grabbed her hand as soon as it was on the table.
They talked for hours, everyone briefly coming in to say goodbye, as Maria and Greg stayed seated, Maria telling him everything that happened in her head, from Jones to her grandma Patty, to how all of this made her feel. To how she was scared of Jones, but knew that she wasn’t alone in the fight, to the distress she felt when she found out about what Patty had done in Caulfield, to how Maria herself had to take part in enabling the experiments.
After she had finished talking, Gred slung his arms around her shoulders, letting Maria lean in the crook of his neck, as he told her about what she had missed in Roswell. He also told her about one of his student’s latest antics, the parent-teacher meeting approaching and how he was anxious as usual about it.
In the early hours in the morning, when they wanted nothing more than to keep talking, but were getting tired, Maria especially, since a coma wasn’t really restful, Greg offered to drive her back home, with the promess to pick her up and drive her to the Pony the next day so she could pick her car up. And if he ended up staying the night, well, Alex had a few teasing comments about it, but neither Maria nor Greg minded them so much, basking in each other’s company.

Another story based on a prompt that @manescosmic got (this one). I changed the sentence a bit and made a delmanes prompt instead of malex. This is quite sad and there are descriptions of depression, so keep scrolling of you don't want to read! Hope you'll enjoy 😁
Prompt: "If the world was ending, you'd come over right?"
Maria never leaned on anyone if she could. She always made sure to be independent. However, lately, this had become harder and harder, as she could feel her mind slip away after each vision she had. She couldn't stop, couldn't put the bracelet on, she needed to know who was getting murdered so she could stop it from happening.
Yet, after all the hards work, nearly dying many times including throwing herself off of the Crashdown roof and getting Kyle to inject her with adrenaline, she failed to prevent a murder. She failed to save her friend. Maria was sad for Kyle, of course, but she was more pissed at herself, thinking of what could've happened if she did more, if she focused more on her visions, maybe there would've been a chance for the doctor.
But there weren't any, Kyle was lying on a hospital bed, connected to various machines all beeping on their own rhythm, barely surviving. And Max wasn't in a better state. He was in his room, in a similar position to Kyle, Liz having made all the connections necessary to his survival. Maria didn't feel like she failed a friend, but two. The two men who had helped her control her visions.
The rest of their little group had told her on many occasions that it wasn't her fault, that they didn't blame her, but she didn't believe them. She tried to busy herself at work, behind her well trusted bar serving the usual customers, but Guerin had showed up and refused to leave. She told him that he should be checking in on his brother, but she just shrugged and served himself a beer. He smiled at her, told her that Max had already died once, that he was going to be just fine, but there was an emptiness to his voice, a lack of belief that only resonated with Maria's own. The two fell in silence, neither knowing what to say to make the other feel better. After a while, Michael stood up, said something about meeting with Isobel, and made his way out of the bar with a tilt of his hat.
After that, he was seen less and less at the bar, reminiscent of the awkward period after Maria broke up with him, where they were giving each other space. And just like last time, Maria felt lonely at the bar, missing the cowboy's flirtatious tone, the dumb jokes and the unpaid tab. She knew that the sensible choice would be to take a break, maybe visit her friends who were between life and death, but she couldn't find it in her to face their pale faces as the struggled to stay alive.
The next person who came to see her at the Pony was Alex, just back from a mission with Deep Sky that he didn't talk about. He just sat on a stool, ordered a beer, and kept quiet until it was closing time and the bar was empty but the two childhood friends. They just looked at each other, before Alex stood up and closed the distance between them, enveloping Maria in a tight hug that they both needed. He then drove Maria back to her place with the promise of driving her to the Pony the next day, talking about everything but Kyle and Max's condition. He wasn't great at reading other people, but he knew Maria and knew when she reached her breaking point and needed a distraction. He told her about Forrest's book tour and little gossip from Deep Sky, making Maria forget about he guilt for the time of one night. But the next day, she remembered all again and had to brace herself for work.
It was after Isobel's visit that she decided to take a break and stay home. She couldn't face the sadness on her grandaunt, the sadness Maria knew she could've avoided. Isobel had tried to be nice, warm and hopeful even as she told the bartender various stories about Max and how she and Michael were displacing his books to see if he would notice. She was always the hopeful one, it was the case the first time Max had died, and it was still was for the second time. Maria couldn't hold that hope, didn't dare in fear that she would only make things worse.
On her second day off, the day she barely made it out of bed to go to the toilet, she heard a knock on the door. She rolled on herself and covered her head with a pillow, hoping that if she didn't answer the person would just go away. She was starting to feel like the world was ending and didn't have the energy to fight or get out of bed. The person didn't go away and the knocking didn't stop, until it did after what felt like hours but was probably just mere minutes. She sighed in relief that she wouldn't need to talk that day, and prepared herself to go back to sleep, when a small voice was heard from just outside the closed door of her bedroom.
"Maria?", came the voice of a man she clearly recognised, followed by a knock on the frame of her bedroom door. "Look, I know you're in there", continued Gregory Manes, the man she had avoided ever since she couldn't prevent the death of her two dear friends, "and I know you've been avoiding me. I just wanna make sure you're okay."
And that was it, the nail to the coffin that made her break. It starting by a tear that she blinked away, followed by a second, and before she knew it, she was sobbing, her head in a pillow trying to muffle the sounds she was making. She must've failed, since soon enough she could the bed shift as someone was sitting, then a hand patting her head, a thumb caressing her wet cheek. She looked up, and met Greg's warm smile. He opened his arms, inviting her in for hug, which she dived into, burying her head in the crook of her neck, still crying. He held her for as long as she needed, until she had cried all the tears in her bodies and then some more.
At one point they had shifted position, so that she was straddling his hips, her hands around his shoulders and her face still in his neck, while Greg had one arm against her waist, caressing the bottom of her back, the other hand firm and pleasant at the base of her head, supporting her as she cried.
"Ah shit, sorry, I'm… I'm a mess yeah…" Maria said hesitantly after sniffing and wiping her face with her hands. Gregory just smiled at her and chuckled, using his thumbs to wipe the tears drying on her cheeks. "Hey," he said, voice low as if not to disturb her and give her peace, "it's okay, you can cry Maria, I'm not going anywhere." She returned the smile, not yet quite as warm, and hugged him again with as much strength as she could. He returned the hug, keeping his promise of not going anywhere.
After a while, her stomach grumbled making them both laugh, Maria's still wet from the tears, and Greg stood up, telling her that he was going to cook her something. She used that time to head to the bathroom to take a hat shower, thinking she would cry some more, but as it turned out she had already emptied all the tears left in her. As she got out and made her way to the kitchen, she was met with the back of Gregory as he shuffled around her kitchen, cooking something that Maria had no doubt would be delicious.
"Thank you," she said, making him turn around, still holding a spatula in his hands, "for coming over when the world was ending."

Roswell New Mexico 3x08
My thoughts under the cut
Yes I am happy that malex is back together
But that isn't why I loved this episode so much, 3x08 still would've been one of my favourites without the kiss at the end
To start off, we got to see Liz and Alex working together to get Maria out of the hospital which I absolutely loved to see (added bonus with Michael and Isobel in military uniform)
Then we got to see Liz doing all of her science stuff and figuring out that Rosa was right while Rosa Isobel and Maria were living through Patricia's day
I loved seeing all of that, completely lost it when Patricia injected the patients and was very happy to learn that Patricia was actually helping as much as she could
Diving into Caulfied was something I thought was amazing, and I hope we get to see more of that, I have so many questions (also is it just me or did poly aliens get confirmed? And Louise/Nora/Theo triad? Or do I just not know enough English that that is my first thought? 😂)
Maria and Isobel absolutely kicking ass this ep! Maria in living through her grandmother's day, which is definitely not a great experience and Isobel fighting Jones was really badass (also I loved Isobel Maria and Rosa's outfits this ep *chef's kiss*)
Michael and Alex working together? The mention of war and what Alex went through in Irak? I have been wanting that since I watch the first season, it broke my heart to see. Alex stopping Michael from doing something he might regret? Yes. Alex driving s car into Jones? Also yes.
Finally, the scene at the pony. Imo one of the best scenes ever and I have already watched three times and will do it many more times.
We got Liz and Rosa talking, about recovery, and teaming up all that. We got Michael and Maria being friend with each other, both Alex and Michael hugging her. We got Isobel and Maria talking about the badass women in their family, Maria calling Rosa Liz and Isobel her sisters. Alex telling Michael he wants to work together (also malex kissing). Gregory Manes calling Maria to check in, and Isobel calling him a saint? Yes for delmanes, really happy to see where they take them. Isobel and Liz sharing a glass of wine? Yes.
So yeah, this ep is one of my favourites, and I know it's not perfect. I know there are a lot of stuff that could've been done differently or whatever (like everything) but it was really nice to see all of them interacting, and I'm sure I missed some things so I'll need to rewatch
My point it, this ep is great, and malex getting back together is not the only thing that happened but I know, as always, it's going to be the main focus of everything because they always are.
And as much as I'm happy they are together, I don't actually care that much, regardless of that kiss in the end, I would've been happy with that episode and the scenes we got of them
And I also have so many more questions! Especially with the Lockhart machine, what is that about Jones and Max switching bodies? How is Kyle doing? Will Maria and Isobel look more into their family?
Tldr; loved the ep, happy for malex, will probably not write a fic on malex per say, but on what happened in the ep

In honor of Halloween(and only having two more Chapters of Just a kid from Roswell left to post) please enjoy these head canons for Roswell themed couples costumes
❤️ Malex would dress up as pirates but not like cheap costumes that you find at Spirit Halloween. Like they go hard, basically doing cosplay, because they are gunning to win the couple’s costume contest. They spend all night telling everyone that they are each other’s “matey”
❤️ Kybel would also be gunning for that best couples costume award. Isobel would dress up full alien. Think body paint, glitter, antenna, everything. And Kyle would dress up as an MIB agent.
💙 Echo dress up as Jake and Amy from B99 because it’s easy and they are not getting involved in the Malex vs Kybel rivalry for first place.
🖤 delmanes would dress up as something super cliche like a hunter and a deer
❤️ and Flint and Rosa, my Aro/Ace children, would dress up as Buttercup and Westley from the Princess Bride. But they thought it would be funny(and a little ironic) if Rosa dresses up as the swashbuckling Westley in all black with the mask and sword and all. Flint wears the iconic orange dress and blonde wig. Malex and Kybel are absolutely furious that Flint and Rosa win best couples costume.
❤️ and as a bonus, if Roswell wasn’t filled with cowards and would give us Lizobel, they would dress up as Gomez and Morticia. But lesbian Gomez and Morticia. And they would do it every year eventually dressing their kids up as Wednesday and Pugsly, and convincing Arturo to dress up as Grandmama and getting Rosa to dress up as Uncle Fester.
❤️ as a secondary bonus. Flint and Charlie’s coordinated costumes would be Flint as an old west bandit and Charlie as a saloon girl. Flint 100% acts as Charlie’s wing-man and helps her go home and score a date with a woman dressed up as a cowboy
I’m off to celebrate Halloween with the family. I hope you are doing well and have a safe and fun weekend! 🍤🍤🍤
Happy Halloween my sweet friend!! I'll definitely be catching up on your fic this week! Can't wait :D
Ommmg telling everyone they're each other's mateys, I can't deal with how cute that is haha
Ahhh kybel as an alien and MIB, too perfect
Yes echo as peraltiago is perfect haha
hahahaha just some lame costume for delmanes, love that
lmfaooo Rosa and Flint's joke costume actually winning the contest is perfect
I would love Lizobel to dress up as Mortia and Gomez 😍
Yes love that for Charlie and Flint!! Perfection haha
Hope you had a wonderful Halloween with the fam!!

I feel so vindicated when people point out how fucked up the red dress thing was because when I watched the episode I posted something about it not sure if it’s a cultural difference or what and had so many people making me legit think I’m delusional and that it’s not a thing that I legit deleted it and now I’m like holy shit it’s not a cultural thing everybody knows it’s fucked up in one way or another either cos of connotations or cos of the otherwise dark color scheme
Catharsis (for me and my rage)
