Onesimus (late 1600s–1700s) was an African man who was instrumental in the mitigation of the impact of a smallpox outbreak in Boston, Massachusetts. His birth name is unknown. He was enslaved and, in 1706, was given to the New England Puritan minister Cotton Mather, who renamed him. Onesimus introduced Mather to the principle and procedure of the variolation method of inoculation to prevent the disease, which laid the foundation for the development of vaccines. After a smallpox outbreak began in Boston in 1721, Mather used this knowledge to advocate for inoculation in the population. This practice eventually spread to other colonies. In a 2016 Boston magazine survey, Onesimus was declared one of the "Best Bostonians of All Time"
Onesimus's name at birth and place of birth are unknown with certainty. He was first documented as living in the colonies in 1706, having been brought to North America as an enslaved person. In December of that year, he was given as a gift by a church congregation to Cotton Mather, their Puritan minister of North Church, as well as a prominent figure in the Salem Witch Trials. Mather renamed him after a first-century AD enslaved person mentioned in the Bible. The name, "Onesimus" means "useful, helpful, or profitable".
Mather referred to the ethnicity of Onesimus as "Guaramantee", which may refer to the Coromantee (also known as Akan people of modern Ghana).
Mather saw Onesimus as highly intelligent and educated him in reading and writing with the Mather family (for context, according to biographer Kathryn Koo, at that time, literacy was primarily associated with religious instruction, and writing as means of note-taking and conducting business)
In 1716 or shortly before, Onesimus had described to Mather the process of inoculation that had been performed on him and others in his society in Africa (as Mather reported in a letter): "People take Juice of Small-Pox; and Cut the Skin, and put in a drop." In the book, African Medical Knowledge, the Plain Style, and Satire in the 1721 Boston Inoculation Controversy, Kelly Wisecup wrote that Onesimus is believed to have been inoculated at some point before being sold into slavery or during the slave trade, as he most likely traveled from the West Indies to Boston.
The variolation method of inoculation was long practiced in Africa among African people.
The practice was widespread among enslaved colonial people from many regions of Africa and, throughout the slave trade in the Americas, slave communities continued the practice of inoculation despite regional origin.
Mather followed Onesimus's medicinal advice because, as Margot Minardi writes, "inferiority had not yet been indelibly written onto the bodies of Africans."

SHAKIRA AND CARDI B - PUNTERÍA
youtube
Shakira makes comments about Barbie, we make comments about Shakira... Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie you have 24 hours to release a statement about us to complete the circle...
[5.62]
Harlan Talib Ockey: “Puntería” is a no-thoughts-head-empty ode to sex. Without context, it’s fun, but it’s hard to forget that it just doesn’t have anything like the righteous fury of “Bzrp Music Sessions” or the caustic groove of “Te Felicito.” Cardi puts in an MVP performance, breezily singing a third of the song herself, and it’s ultimately their chemistry that makes this worth it. [5]
Claire Biddles: This only really livens up when Shakira and Cardi sound like they're in the same room -- I'd love to hear a song where they're riffing off each other the whole way through. [5]
Leah Isobel: Something about this brings out my cynicism. None of it is bad, and some of it is quite good -- Shakira singing about her G-spot, for instance. I like the trancey "Realiti" synth in the chorus, too. But mostly when I hear this I hear an attempt to recreate "Kiss Me More," and I'm a little Kiss Me Bored. [5]
Dave Moore: It didn't seem like rocket science to just give Shakira more of the sound she perfected on her Bzrp Music Session (check), then make a mini-album out of it (check) and tack on all the great stuff she put out in the last year or so to fill out the runtime (check). But I would not have guessed the secret weapon on this particular song would be Cardi B taking to the proceedings so naturally that you start to lose track of who's singing when they start passing melody lines back and forth in the second half. So now I also want Cardi B to make a Shakira album. [8]
Will Adams: Neither disappointing nor surprising that Shaki would follow up an international smash with a redux that sands off its predecessor's edges for the palatable lite-disco of "Say So" or "Lottery" or "Kiss Me More" or (or or or or). The real crime is for a duo of performers as vibrant and charismatic as Shakira and Cardi to sound this boring. [4]
Isabel Cole: Two stars known for more dramatic modes turn up the sweetness for a frothy little bauble, like the aural equivalent of girls' night. No one sounds like they're working very hard, in a good way; they're having fun, and so am I! [7]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: "Say So"ification comes for even our most charismatic pop stars -- lite retro production, indistinctly horny sentiments, a vague malaise creeping up even as the beat loops jauntily. It's not bad per se -- I will hear this at parties for the next six months and bop my head along without a second of regret tied directly to the song -- but I can't help but feel like there ought to be something more; I'd rather have an ambitious failure of a crossover track (remember the Shakira-Rihanna Ska Explosion?) than a distinctly unmemorable set of pleasantries. [6]
TA Inskeep: A mildly sexy empty-calories jam that I can't remember I heard five minutes later. [6]
Nortey Dowuona: David Stewart, who is possibly a millionaire from producing a BTS song you don't know (unless you are hardcore ARMY or a person who listens to a radio station) has now created another song for Shakira you won't remember after this year (unless you are a hardcore Cardi B fan or a person who listens to a radio station). Will this one make him a billionaire? Find out on: BIG, MEGA, FORGETTABLE, RADIO SMASHER. Hosted by Cardi B. [4]
Ian Mathers: Cardi B singing in Spanish is surprisingly close to Shakira here, when she just takes a chorus near the end if I hadn't been watching the video I might not have noticed the switch until she mentions her own name. Which is not a criticism! I wish I could fit in on a Shakira song, especially a decent one like this, so neatly. [7]
Alfred Soto: I hear voices like theirs at checkout lines and on FaceTime chats: two distinctly Hispanic lilts crashing against each other like sea spray against rock. Listening to each other is besides the point. "Puntería" reminds me of those exchanges. Pure idiomatic expression for expression's sake, it puts an arm around the listener then ignores her. [6]
Kayla Beardslee: Apparently scientists still have not found a cure to the "Say So" substitutes epidemic since I last did this bit two months ago. Everyone, our time on this planet as a species is finite: it's up to us to band together and figure out how to de-chintz the pop girl singles before it's too late. “Puntería” is an extremely average addition to the "Say So" imitators’ shelf, but having Shakira on a track will always be worth an extra point. At least I learned a new Spanish word! [6]
Katherine St. Asaph: EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to an oversight in the selection process, we have covered "Not My Fault" twice. We regret the error. [4]

CAST: Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Courtney Reed (Jasmine), Merwin Foard (s/b Jafar), Michael James Scott (s/b Genie)

Format: .VOB w/ smalls
Cast: Jade Steele, Russell Dixon, Glen Drake, Rob Ormsby, Gladys Hope

Beauty and the Beast (Disney) - Broadway - July 27, 2007 (Unknown's video master)

NOTES: Two days before the show closed on Broadway. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

A few words about Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey
I know right? they changed the title after almost a week of screening. What a plot twist.
I was pretty hyped about this movie. No mather the trailers, they were just fine, but the cast and what I was hearing about this, made me very excited. After changing the head of DCEU (or The Worlds of DC (what a weird name)) every movie coming out with the DC logo was remarkably good. Aquaman (2018) was a lot of entertainment, Shazam (2019) was fun, Joker (2019) was great and emotional at times, it didn't win two Oscars for nothing (but I'm still #teamdriver). So what about Birds of Prey: And the Fabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)? (I like the old title better)
Now we get to the good stuff, so watch out for *SPOILERS*.
The characters, especially the main one, are the best thing about this movie, so we are gonna start with the One and Only Harley Quinn. This is one of the greatest character redemptions in the last few years. She was an awful character Suicide Squad (2016), her only two roles were to look sexy and try to be crazy. That's no way to treat such a wonderful antiheroine. But this movie changed it completely. She finally got some depth. She finally doesn't like she's from a teenager's dream and she finally is funny. About her depth, they added Harley a good between movies' midstory. Which is good, but not great, because I still want to see, how the Joker sents Harley to space, she would be saved of course, but it would be entertaining. No one said this can't be done in future movies tho... Coming back, the few scenes, where she tells Black Canary drunk, that the Joker broke with her, or when she destroys the Laboratory, or when she watches TV with the kid, it shows, that she's human, not just a 1-dimensional disappointment. And combined with Margot Robbie's acting talent and her love for the character, she plays, it makes the movie great of itself. But she's not the only great thing in this picture and that's the best part. Seriously, I can't talk about her enough, so just one more thing, the costumes, wow, wonderful. More of that, please.
She's not alone tho! Not in the third act at least. I mean the Birds of Prey. Because they fight with her. You know. I'm pretty satisfied, how they have written these characters. Although they have a lesser role, then the original (better) title would say, but, that's not really a problem. Black Canary (my Injustice 2 main BTW) is great. I haven't seen that character anywhere else then Injustice 2 and Young Justice (2010-), so I can't say much about it, but I heard she's different here. I don't care tho, she's great, a very well written, after Harley, probably the best-written character here and the second with most screen time. She's badass but also warmhearted. It took me a bit, to get used to the design, but the actress does such a wonderful job, I can't be less mad about it. Montoya isn't the best, but she's still fun. Who cares about the age, when the actress plays as well as she can and does a great job? She's based on detectives from 80's cop shows, so not much to say about here. She's just good. The Huntress, I haven't seen such a badass character made fun off so much, without hurting her image. Such great work from the writers' side. Just explicit.
The humor is the third-best part of this movie. We'll talk about the second-best in a second. The jokes mostly got me. I'm not a big fan of in-your-face humor, I like more the background jokes, but I have to say, I found most of them really, really funny. The sandwich scene was for me a little too much, but for example, the part in the police station was just the best. Or at the carnival.
The choreography during combat is just amazing. As I remember correctly, people from the John Wick team were hired, to do the stunts, so it looks astonishing. Each of the main characters has a different combat style, which just adds to the visual madness of the fight scenes. And the R category adds even more to it. Watching so many legs brake in so many directions, hurt even me.
So there were like two villains. One side villain, but we're gonna talk about him first. I like Victor Zsasz from the Gotham (2014-2019) tv series and that's really the only expression that I saw of him till now. He's different, from what I can remember, less of a silent type and more of a talking psychopath, but he's still enjoyable to watch. He got nothing on the Black Mask tho. Ewan McGregor was a great casting decision. I haven't seen him earlier playing a villain, just the good guys, mostly Obi-Wan, but the job he does here is amazing. You can see, he has so much fun, like it was his childhood dream, to play a face-cutting gangster. My only problem with him was, that he's a little underused.
But that gets into the "bad stuff" category. The movie is great, but the is no movie without flaws. And the biggest is probably the plot. It's basic. it's just a race after a diamond. The backstories of the protagonists were much better. But it's not a big problem tho. The characters, action, and humor are on such a high level, that that doesn't even bother much. The saddest thing for me is the underuse of Black Mask and Bruce (the hyena named after that hunky millionaire Bruce Wayne (I wrote it with a smile on my face)). After a while and a lot of thinking about it, I got to an impression, that the underuse of Black Mask in the third act (or the final fight for the most part) was that to show, that he's not the unstoppable, evil monster, that his describing himself as, but just a guy. So I let myself to turn a blind eye on that. But WTF writers! You have a fucking hyena, that we see in like two scenes and doesn't even rip two guys into pieces. I'm mad about it. And why one and not two? The more hyenas, the better.
You probably heard from the internet trolls, that that's just a big budget propaganda movie. It hates guys. Another Charlie's Angels (2019). Yeah... No. It doesn't. Showing strong female characters isn't a propaganda. It does not tell you, that man are the worst and you should hate them. I can't understand why someone would even think that. I saw the 1-stars wave on IMDb and got a little affraid, but don't worry. It's a wonderful movie, not for everyone, but definietly not like the basement trolls descibe it.
The SPOILER FREE zone is active from now on.
So to sum up. It's a great movie, with funny jokes and action like from a John Wick movie. It's not for everybody, but it's just better because of it. Because it is its own movie. And that's a not seen very often in blockbuster superhero movies. (Can we even call it that? It's not that big bugdet and it's about antiheroins) If you haven't yet, go and watch it. It deserves a little boxoffice boost.

Livin' La Vida Loca (CHAPTER 1)
LINKS (UPDATED, HOPEFULLY):
Chapter 2
PSA: I wrote this for my friend and am still working on it. Obviously our names are changed but it has a lot of celebrity appearances and personally I think it's pretty funny and worth the read. Also I named it Livin' La Vida Loca because of the song obviously but I think it really encapsulates this story because Margot and Aria are very much living the crazy life. I'll take any comments honestly be honest (please just give me praise). I'll probably respond or I might get too geeked.
WARNINGS: obscure references, wyll warriors, name calling, jfk, man city slander, offensive humor (sorry snowflakes /j)
STORY:
“Margot come hither,” Congressman Kennedy beckoned. “Yes sir.” Margot looked back at him with her icy blue orbs. Margot was an almost blonde brunette, she was as pale as Dracula.
Just as Margot was walking over to the hot young congressman she awoke. She looked next to her to see her best friend, Aria, she was obviously hotter than Margot, luckily for Margot, Aria only had her eyes set on one man, Andy Samberg. “Sooo, who are you dreaming about?” Aria inquired. “Nunya,” Margot quickly retorted. “I don’t think I know of a Nunya, are they Indian?” Aria genuinely asked. Margot just scoffed and walked away, she had to straighten her hair, she doesn’t have time for Aria's tomfoolery.
As Margot was heating her straightener she was deep in thought. Why couldn’t she be with JFK, it’s not her fault John Wilkes Booth Lee Harvey Oswald blew out his brains before she could. Margot quickly reached for her phone, realizing there was a Manchester City v. Manchester United game, the most important game for the next few months, deciding whether Manchester is red or blue, it shouldn’t even matter to Margot because she lived 3,334 miles away (Margot lives in NYC), but for some odd reason she cared so much. She wondered if JFK would’ve been a Man City fan just like herself.
As Margot finished burning off her beautiful curly hair she realized she hadn’t checked her Snapchat. After she did her streaks she checked who had added her, that’s when she saw him. “ARIA OH MY FUCKING GOD, CHRISTIAN BALE JUST ADDED ME ON SNAPCHAT. OH MY FUCKING GOD.” Margot begins to cry. “Woah woah woah buckaroo, let me handle this.” Aria responds. “NO YOU AREN’T ALLOWED TO MESSAGE ON MY SNAPCHAT AFTER JOE.” Margot yells. “No doubt, no doubt, no doubt.” Aria quotes Andy Samberg on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. “Just wait a second before adding him back okay, you don’t wanna seem desperate.” Aria offers. “I AM DESPERATE!” Margot yelps. “Let’s just go out to eat so we can get your mind off of him for a little bit.” Aria offers more advice once again.
At the restaurant Aria spots a certain someone. “THAT’S FUCKING ANDY SAMBERG. MARGOT OH MY GOD.” Aria scream whispered. “Go up to him and rizz him since you’re such a hotty.” Margot encourages Aria's foolish behavior. “He’s married though.” Aria sadly answers. “Has that ever stopped you before?” Margot responded. “No...” Aria admits. Margot pushes Aria towards the hottie Jew. “Margot how do I rizz up a Jew?” Aria asks the question she most definitely knows the answer too. Margot just gives her the look. Aria walks up to the famed actor, “Are you a menorah because i can see your candle lighting up.” He was definitely into it.
As they conversed, Margot added Christian Bale on Snapchat, he quickly messages her, “heyy wyll”. Margot sends a raunchy pic of herself and he replys with the heart eyes filter. Margot tells him to “pu”, which he subsequently does. But at the very same time as Christian Bale steps out of the car, Chris Evans walks the door of the restaurant and locks eyes on Margot, but so does Christian Bale. “Bro, you think your the better Chris?” Chris Evans says to Christian Bale. “No, I know I am. To my knowledge you weren’t Batman.” Christian Bale retorts. “Low blow bro, but I’m gonna hit you lower.” Chris Evans hits Christian Bale in the balls. They both get into a full on brawl over Margot's love. Margot looks over to her friend Aria in hopes of getting her help on this matter but her friend was busy now that Ben Affleck had joined in on her and Andy Samberg. “Dayum that girl’s got ultra skibidi rizz.” Chris Evans says about Aria after he successfully murders Christian Bale.
Whenever Margot looked back at Chris (Evans), she realized something weird. It looked like he was tying his shoe as he was on one knee, but instead of a shoelace in his hand there was a ring. “Will you marry me Margot Mathers, the daughter of Marshall Mathers, the daughter of Sandra Bullock?”

The Murder of Arthur Wright XVII
First Previous AO3 AN: this is it folks, the penultimate chapter. Submit any guesses on whodunit now. In the interest of fairness, I’ve gone back and made some minor additions to some previous chapters. See the AO3 link for more details
Chapter Seventeen: The Final Piece of Evidence
The last time Margot visited the local precinct she had been recovering from her burns. The investigators looking into the botched Drathmakal summoning had insisted on speaking with her as soon as possible, and Margot had seen no reason not to oblige them. It had been an unpleasant experience for all parties involved, in part because the man attempting to conduct the interview could hardly stand to look at her.
Dash’s contact was in another department entirely, his office hidden away in the lower levels of the precinct. They were greeted there by a young man of about twenty-five, who gave Dash a salute as crisp as his freshly-pressed uniform. At the sight of him Dash rolled his eyes before offering a hand, which was enthusiastically shook.
“Gabe, this is Professor Margot from over at Kempeston. She’s been helping me figure out what in the world’s going on with Master Wright.”
“I know the professor,” Gabe said, shaking Margot’s hand in a much more agreeable manner. “Everyone’s talking about how she and Professor Ford fought against that frog. It almost makes me wish I’d gone to Kempeston.”
“You’re a mage?” Margot asked.
“Oh yes. Never had the reserves for the flashy spells, but I get by.” He stood up a little straighter and said proudly, “The prefect called my work exemplary.”
The young officer’s enthusiasm was contagious, and Margot found herself smiling. “The most important magic is the kind that doesn’t tend to get any attention.”
Gabe beamed at her. “Thank you, Professor. I’ve learned a lot working this case. The senior investigator thinks we’ll have the code cracked by the end of the week.” He looked suddenly nervous. “I, er, probably shouldn’t have said that. It’s all very hush-hush at the moment.”
“C’mon, Gabe, you know me better than that. I won’t breathe a word. Orc’s honor.” Dash cocked his head and tried to look past the lanky youth. “Where is everyone else, anyway?”
“At a meeting,” Gabe said, moving to block Dash’s line of vision.
“Without you? What about all that exemplary work you’ve been doing?”
“I would be with them, but I lost privileges when my boss found out that you’d copied Master Wright’s notes—which I remember you distinctly promising not to do. I trusted you.”
Dash grimaced a little, and stuck his hands in his pockets. “Geeze, sorry. I didn’t want to get you in trouble. But this is important. Maybe the most important. Please, Gabe, you got to let me through.”
Gabe shook his head stubbornly. “No can do, Dash. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice, shame on you.”
“I, uh, don’t think that’s how it goes, actually.” Dash rubbed his chin and spared a glance at Margot before snapping his fingers. “I know, how about a trade?”
“Trade?”
“You know, the exchange of goods between two parties?” Dash said, eyebrows raising. “In this case, information. The professor here’s cracked Wright’s code. Think of what the prefect will say when he finds out you’ve saved him a week of work?”
“You did?” Gabe said, eyes bulging as he turned towards Margot. He couldn’t have been more awed if she’d told him she was a Wizard, and for a moment he seemed beyond words. “How?”
“Didn’t you hear, Gabe?” Dash asked lazily. “The professor here helped design some of Wright’s safeguards. She knew his work better than anyone.”
Margot shot him a glare that was studiously ignored.
“Well what is it?” Gabe demanded. “What was the formula for?”
Dash wagged a finger. “Nuh-uh, you show us first. A sign of goodwill, as it were. Then we’ll talk.”
“I can’t let you in. Really,” Gabe said, face crumpling. “I know you’re a good sort, Dash, but you’re not one of us, you know? I can’t tell anyone.”
Margot could see that without intervention the argument would go nowhere. She leaned in closer to Gabe, and asked, “Is that door to your office unlocked?”
“Uh, yeah, but why—“
“How about this,” Margot interrupted smoothly. “You go for a quick bathroom break, and by the time you get back we’ll be gone, with Master Wright’s formula left in exchange. You don’t let us in, and we get the information we need. Everybody wins.”
“I, er, I guess that’d be okay,” Gabe said. “But only if you leave that formula. Take off without it, and we’re done for good.”
“That’s fair,” Dash said. He made a little shooing motion. “Now hurry, before that meeting ends.”
Once he was out of sight Margot and Dash hurried into the room labeled Magical Investigations. It was a cramped space made even smaller by desks piled high with paperwork. Margot’s attention was immediately drawn by a glowing rune at the largest of the workspaces.
“They do recreations there,” Dash said. “You know, of crime scenes and things like that. Dunno how to activate it, though.”
“I really need to give you lessons one of these days,” Margot said. She wasn’t familiar with the rune, but it seemed like luck was finally on their side, and she could see the smear of where a greasy finger had activated the spell. Calling on her magic, she traced over the mark.
“You really do know how to do everything, don’t you?” Dash said, an enormous grin spreading across his face.
“One of us has to know what we’re doing,” Margot said. The run glowed an acidic greet, and with a flash of light a simulacrum of a notebook sprang into existence.
“They created Master Wright’s spellbook?” Dash said.
“The original probably wasn’t in any condition to study in depth,” Margot said. She flicked a wrist over the illusion, and the book fell open. She recognized the untidy scrawl written on the pages.
Reaching into her bag, Margot pulled out the copies Dash had made for comparison. Unlike the copies, the recreation’s formula was completely intact—likely the result of the investigator’s efforts to pick apart Master Wright’s research.
“The problem with recreations is that it’s partly guesswork,” Dash mused. “You take the information you got and try to reverse engineer the most likely scenario based on the facts. Look here, Prof.”
He pointed a meaty finger at the pages that came before the fateful formula—or at least what was left of them. It looked like someone had grabbed a handful of paper and ripped it out of the notebook, leaving jagged perforations as evidence behind.
“Do you think Master Wright did that?” Margot asked.
“Don’t know, but we should probably skedaddle. Gabe’s one of my best contacts, I’d hate to lose him.”
Margot broke off the rune and together they hurried out of the office. They had just closed the door behind them when Gabe ran around the corner, red-faced and nearly in a panic. At the sight of them he nearly melted into a puddle of relief.
“Oh thank goodness you’re here.”
Anything else he might have said was cut off as a tall, scarecrow of a man came into view, trailed by a trio of men wearing the blue band that marked them as mages on the sleeve of their uniforms. This newcomer, at least, Margot recognized from her interview after the Drath attack as Mattathias Mathers, the head of Magical Investigations.
“Well hello there, Investigator,” Dash said. “Just the man I was hoping to see.”
Mathers hardly deigned to spare him a glance before turning his attention to Margot. “Good morning, Professor. I didn’t think I would be seeing you again so soon. To what do I owe this pleasure?”
Mathers was a soft-spoken man, but he gave Margot the impression of hiding a heavy hand beneath a velvet glove. He had not asked any questions after the Drathmakal summoning, but to this day he was the one person from the investigation that Margot remembered most.
“I was just wondering how your investigation on the Wright case was coming along,” Margot said.
“Ah, yes. Of course. I hear you were present during the explosion and the one to find Master Wright dead. I am sorry you had to experience that so soon after your recovery.”
“But you’re not sorry she had to experience it at all?” Dash asked, eyebrows raising.
“Mr. Cain, I told you the last time you came scurrying in here like an unwanted beetle that I have nothing to say to you, and none of my investigators have anything to say to you,” Mathers said. “I would be greatly obliged if you would take the initiative to remove yourself from my presence. Permanently.”
“Now Investigator, the professor isn’t the only one who was there during that explosion,” Dash said. “The public demands answers, and so do I. What caused that explosion?”
The craggy lines in Mather’s face deepened, and Margot would not have been surprised if he used his magic to make the temperature plummet twenty degrees. Gabe cringed and looked like he wished the ground would swallow him whole, and trio of senior investigators looked uneasy.
“Follow me,” Mathers said tersely. He turned sharply on one heel, the tails of his uniform shirt billowing behind him as he swept back the way he had come. Dash and Margot had to hurry to keep up with him as he took an unmarked stairway to the basement of the precinct.
This time Margot was not imagining it when the air grew cool and dry, and she felt the faintest breeze where magic was used to keep the air from growing stale. Mathers did not stop, and from the basement found another stairway that led even deeper underground.
A bored officer guarding the door sprung to attention at the sight of him, only for Mathers to wave him off. “This will be a quick visit.”
With a long, spindly finger Maters painted an intricate sigil over the door that caused it to melt away into nothingness. A snap caused mage light to spring into existence, revealing a corridor lined from floor to ceiling with metal shelves, each filled with boxes upon boxes.
“Welcome to my job,” Mathers said dourly. Tenting his fingers in front of him, he began strolling down the passage. After a few steps he indicated toward a box.
“That’s Jean Brodeur. She was a mother of two killed on her way home from work, likely a botched robbery. Whoever did the deed had enough magical expertise to cleanse the area of evidence. Her mother comes every week begging me to reopen the case. Her husband doesn’t any more, and I can’t tell you which is worse.”
A few more steps, Mathers’ face a serene mask of contemplation. He indicated to another box. “Like Master Wright, Rhen Petrov died in a magical experiment gone wrong, but unlike Master Wright he was neither famous nor his work terribly important enough to warrant serious scrutiny. I don’t have the resources to pinpoint the exact cause of death, and so the case remains unsolved. I'm told there wasn’t enough of him left to bury.”
They came to the end of the corridor and Mathers plucked a box from its shelf, carefully wiping away the dust that had gathered on the nameplate.
“We don’t know who this man was, except he was a wanderer viciously murdered in a way too gruesome to repeat in mixed company. I swore I would find his killer, and I never have.”
Mathers replaced the box tenderly before rising to back to his imposing height. He looked down the length of his hooked nose at Margot and Dash, a cold fury burning in his black eyes.
“I will find the answer to the death of Master Arthur Wright, but it will be in my way and in my time. The more resources wasted on this nonsensical accident are resources my people could spend investigating cases that truly matter. Now please, get out of my sight and let me work.”
Both Dash and Margot were more than happy to oblige him, and they were escorted out of the precinct before Margot had a chance to tell poor Gabe that Master Wright had been attempting to Teleport ten kilograms of perfectly spherical graphite a distance of twenty-five meters.
“Well that was a waste of time.”
Dash grunted as he leaned against the park bench. He had adopted what Margot privately dubbed his thinking pose, with his head rolled back and his eyes closed. Margot chose to stand and would have preferred to pace, but settled for manipulating a globe of water in her hands.
“Someone ripped out those pages,” Dash said.
“Abigail said that Master Wright protected his notebook against tampering,” Margot said. “That means it was probably Master Wright himself, and it’s impossible to know why without seeing those pages.”
Dash hummed his agreement, and with his eyes still closed found a jerky stick. “Keep talking, Prof. It helps me think.”
“Abigail said that either the formula or the ring itself had to be tampered with for it to explode, and if I had to guess I’d say that it was probably the formula. Those rings had more failsafes than I could count. The one I helped with was just the extra cherry on top.”
“But Wright kept that notebook with him,” Dash murmured. “Who could get their hands on it?”
“His son probably had the best chance. They did share a room during the mage's conference,” Margot said. “His wife wasn’t even there, and I don’t think Desdemona would know how to tamper with it in a way that Master Wright wouldn’t recognize.”
“But Wright junior had everything to gain from his father’s success, financially speaking,” Dash said.
“A crime of passion?” Margot guessed.
“Tampering requires a bit of forethought and the nerve to follow through with a plan. Hard to pull off in the spur of the moment.”
Margot spun water between her fingers. She hated even to think it, but there was one possibility they hadn’t yet addressed. “Abigail knew.”
“Tobe says her work checks out,” Dash said.
Margot bit her lip. “I know she says that she’s lost her magic, but what if that isn’t true? It would take seconds to Teleport to and from the mage’s conference without being missed. It would take some serious firepower, but Abigail knows the mechanics of Teleportation better than anyone who isn’t her father.”
Dash cracked an eyelid. “Do you really think that, Prof?”
“I don’t want to believe it,” Margot said. “But I can’t see how else it could be done.”
She let the globe of water settle in her palm, the events of the mage’s conference replaying in her mind over and again as she tried to come up with something that would put this case to rest once and for all. She remembered Master Wright’s curt dismissal, him reading the equation from his notebook to activate the rings, even the lump of graphite that would be used in the experiment—no bigger than the water she held now.
Was it Abigail? Of the Wright siblings she held the least vitriol towards her father, though his actions had affected her most of all. Was it possible she had been working together with Desdemona all along? Desdemona alone admitted she wanted revenge for what Master Wright had done to her sister. Was it possible she had bullied Abigail into tampering with his equation?
Or perhaps it was Felix, fed up after years of being looked down upon for not pursuing his Mastery. He was, after all, the one member of the family who spent the most time with Master Wright in the present day.
Margot would be the first to admit that she didn’t see how Adeline could have played a part in her husband’s demise, but she couldn’t rule out the possibility that the Wright matriarch had arranged for someone to do her dirty work for her. The marriage was an unhappy one, and they had quarreled before Master Wright left for the conference.
Something didn’t sit right, a niggling suspicion that Margot couldn’t quite place. Something about the facts didn’t line up, but the more Margot tried to grasp for it the farther it seemed to slip from her grasp.
Margot supposed that part of her problem was that she was having a difficult time distancing herself from the facts of the case. Magic should be used to help people, and in his selfishness Master Wright had hurt the people closest to him in a terrible way, never acknowledging his mistakes or taking action to correct them.
It wasn’t right. None of it was.
Disgusted, Margot threw down her globe of water, and then froze as the pieces of the disparaging puzzle came together with an almost audible click.
“Dash?”
“Yeah, Prof?”
“I think I know what happened.”
Slowly Dash raised his head. “That’s funny, because I was about ready to say the same thing.”

I. PLOT
It’s been 100 years since the last class left Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The once thriving institute for people born with a unique genetic mutation giving them extraordinary powers, otherwise known as mutants, had to close it’s doors for good because of a shortage of mutant students following the events of House of M. Soon, the world all but forgot that mutants ever existed, and stories told by the older generations were often viewed as nothing more than tall tales. But there’s a little truth to every tale, isn’t there? Over the past couple years, a new crop of mutants have discovered their powers and after being cryogenically frozen for 100 years, Scott Sommers gathered some of them together to reopen Xavier’s for a new class of students. This is the new generation of mutants. Welcome to Xavier’s, G E N E R A T I O N X .
II. BASICS
Generation X is a group verse set in the Marvel’s X-MEN universe. Since all characters attend Xavier’s, they should all be mutants but if you have a storyline that makes sense and you really want a non-mutant, human character, we can discuss. When choosing your character’s super power, you should keep their canon in mind and choose a power that fits their personality. Get creative so we don’t have duplicate powers in the verse. No all powerful characters will be accepted. On a scale of 1-5, no character should be above a 3 controlling their power, and they should all still be learning how to control them. Older characters could have a better handle on their powers but younger characters will probably still be novices. Though this takes place 100+ years after X-MEN canon, no canon X-MEN or next gen X-MEN characters will be accepted unless you have a valid reason for their return, (ex. Scott Summers was cryogenically frozen for 100 years.
III. RULES
There’s bound to be mature content including but not limited to sex and violence in a group like this, so we ask that all muns and characters be 18+, no exceptions.
While in characters drama is encouraged, OOC drama will not be tolerated.
Major plots should always be run by an admin. (ex. major injuries or NPC deaths) Pregnancy and in verse children plots will not be allowed because they don’t really have a place in an environment like this.
Activity will be required either on the group discord or on the dash, but preferably both. If we don’t feel like you’re contributing to the group, you will be asked to leave.
Characters from all fandoms will be accepted as well as original characters.
Each member is allowed up to THREE characters, but we might allow more in the future. If you have at least ONE teacher, you can have a FOURTH character.
Duplicate face claims will not be allowed so if a canon face claim has been taken you will have to use an alternate face.
Duplicate powers will not be allowed so get creative.
HAVE FUN!!
