a simple brief with complex needs: a practical, anti-institutional, undaunting facility which would raise the spirits, yet situated in hospital grounds.

i really loved the idea of having a large tree i my building but i wasn’t sure how it would be possible. i was thinking about having an exposed ground but also struggled to see how that would practically work. this element of this building was perfect for me. the architects here decided to raise the floor of the building and leave an element of nature exposed which i love and definitely fits well in my brief.

battersea power station‘s roof garden by fosters

the tree-lined garden will command views of the power station, the thames, and the city beyond. it will also feature a yoga lawn, barbecue spots, fitness areas, vegetable patch, plus areas for cinema screenings.

i wanted to create a lot of greenery in my proposal but didn't think much of the idea of having a green roof, only because i intended to place many solar panels there but i love the look of this project and the amount of greenery provided, which is great to encourage biodiversity in a city and also a multi use space.
