Boy, Tolkien really knew how to write water metaphors to capture large movements of people. The Dike at Helm's Deep is boiling with swarming companies of orcs who advance like the tide, flowing forward, being pushed back, and flowing forward again to reach a higher point each time. The riders of Rohan pour slowly but surely onto the Pelennor Fields like rising waters from a breached dam. The leading edge of Éomer's charging cavalry line roars like a breaker foaming toward the shore. It’s all so great.

Not for nothing, but this is another place where PJ really captured something of Tolkien's words in his films through just the visual imagery. There is absolutely something distinctively liquid about the way that Éomer, Gandalf and crew pour over that ridge line and down into Helm’s Deep in Two Towers, and you can totally see the wave-like nature of the cavalry charge outside Minas Tirith later on. It's easy to directly replicate words like dialogue and basic physical characteristics and plot points in an adaptation, but to evoke the same metaphors and capture the implied imagery as well? That's next level.

"Let the tides carry you back to me." has always been among one of my favourite lines in Telomeres, and so, having listened to it again recently, a little idea popped into my head. Let me explain:

While ocean tides/currents is a very common metaphor, there's an underlying meaning to it. The ocean is a beautiful, but somewhat cruel place: tides can leave you stranded on a sandbank, or sweap you away before you even know it.

To put it in short, no object or creature that goes into the ocean comes out the same. For the tides to carry something back to you, something you've lost, it will be and always will be changed: eroded.

The cliffside will fall, the cave will crumble, etc etc.

With this in mind, we're yet again greeted with another example of Vessel asking for something he can't truly have. The person he wants will not be the same as they were before; they "collapse" into him, breaking apart, but still, to him, it's "the start of something."

His memory is warped, they are warped, and it'll stay that way.

However, what I would like to add is that, in DYWTYLM, it's theorised that instead of Vessel speaking to a second person, he's instead talking to himself.

Of course, this makes the song itself much more emotional (to me). Finding love for yourself is one of the hardest things you can do, but it has to be done to find love in others.

With that idea (stay with me here), the lyrics "Do you roll with the waves? Or do you duck into deep blue safety?" match up (generally) with Telomeres, which is mostly interpretated as being towards someone else.

So, what if some lines in Telemores are directed to himself as well?

Keep in mind, the tides don't just erode and carry objects (sediment), they also reflect. The Atlantic is one big mirror, and Vessel is staring into it's "deep blue safety" wondering what, or, rather, who, he was before he was Vessel.

Overall, the album name, "This Place Will Become Your Tomb", either being directed at Vessel or Vessel to Sleep (and being a Halo quote lmao), is more metaphorical than literal.

Who he was before Vessel sits in that coffin, not his physical body.

the mourn watch background gives you such a GIFT in having other characters notice and call out on-screen that rook code switches like a motherfucker. the whiplash of hearing my snarky 'heeey I'm just a little guy! :>' funnyman rook speak the heightened ritualized phrases of the mourn watch with perfect seriousness and gravity completely naturally and/or break into an academic tone that can keep up with emmrich at the drop of a hat never stops giving me such endless delight. truly their real mind is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside some hideous mourn watch casual wear

hmmm first kiss thoughts. i genuinely don't think buck will kiss eddie first unless he absolutely knows 100% zero doubt in his mind that his feelings are reciprocated. like, i think there would have to be a level of certainty there for buck? because, well. i don't think he would want to risk losing eddie and christopher. that's his family. like, buck would sit on that secret forever if he thought letting it out could jeopardise what they have now. he'd be somehow even more deranged than he already is about eddie, but. he'd sit on the secret if he had to. intense fear of rejection and abandonment etc etc. eddie is the one thing i don't think buck would be impulsive about because the risk is too high. whereas eddie, well. eddie is insane in other ways and would absolutely kiss buck without thinking about it. like, in some sort of wild, desperate moment where he's feeling all of these overwhelming things that he doesn't understand and instinct just takes hold of him. because honestly, if eddie lets himself think about it too much he will probably have a meltdown, so. he would kiss buck then think about it. like, i think unless they've figured everything out first and have some sort of awareness that their feelings are mutual, it's probably going to be eddie. otherwise, it'll be buck. because yeah, i can definitely see it being buck if he knows eddie feels the same, if he knows that eddie needs him to move first. or like, even both of them at the same time because they both know, and they know that they both know. it's all very dependent on circumstances for me. either way i will be absolutely insane about it.

it just really breaks my heart that most of the discourse has to focus on dying children in order to humanize palestinians as if fully grown adult human beings don’t also deserve your attention, empathy, respect, and care
