10. What is a fact about you that nobody would believe?

A lot of people are always surprised to find out, despite my love for math puzzles and having aced all my college and uni math classes, that I pretty much failed all math classes in high school. Part was laziness but also a big part was that I didn’t understand how to solve the problems. It was all gibberish. Cue me entering college and having to take a mandatory college 101 class where an assignment was to find your learning type, and suddenly it all made sense.

I felt anger and also relief that I wasn’t ever as stupid as I assumed. It’s also why I decided to go into teaching stateside. Once I found my learning type, I became interested in how this is applied in an elementary classroom setting. How children learn is fascinating to me. I actually wanted to go into educational research, and then… life kinda threw me under the bus. I was actually on the verge of recovery, having gone into ECE in daycare and preschool, and then life threw me under the bus again.

And now I’m here, and now and then, especially when I’m helping my nephew with his math homework (not that he needs much help, he’s a math wizard), I realize that I love math, I love teaching math, and I miss teaching.

12. Where is somewhere you'd like to visit?

Oh man, so many places. SO MANY. I really want to do a cross country trip across the U.S. but visiting music festivals. And take a million pictures. I used to love taking pictures. As evident in this video. (It’s a long one and not a must watch. Scroll forward towards the last third, that’s more what I got into photography wise.) God, I miss going to festivals and concerts.

For now, Greece is on top of the list, for obvious reasons. (Also I miss the ocean or having a coastline of some kind.) And oh my GOD I WANT TO GO BACK TO SIRMIONE, Italy. I really, truly think that place did me and Sugar Sir in. 💗

Imma just gush about my month of Wizard101 and how I finally got to a close “end” of the game.

24/12 Edit: Fixed some typos here and there and added some stuff.

07/09 Edit: KI decided to fully revamp Wiz city also changing some lore so the rating on that is outdated. Might also put my thought of the new Wiz City there once I’m through all the new content.

Arc 1 - Malistaire - 10/10

Prob my favourite.

The writing really ties in every world, even when you speedquest through it.

Contains a lot of my favourite worlds.

I’m still crying over Mali to this day...

(Old) Wizard City - 10/10

Literally the introduction to the game and the place I spent most of my time in when I was a crownless and membershipless young wizard.

Do you want to farm Nightshade or Kraken?

That graphic revamp really punched.

Had solid concepts, kinda threw them out of the window

I do not like the writing in a majority of the arc

I think I was so disappointed, because I hyped these worlds up so much, the expectations did not meet reality

The ending was a no no

Plot was barely engaging

I only pushed through this for the concepts of Mirage and Polaris and wanted to see where Grandpappy Spider went

The Reverie got me again, nice and fresh mechanics.

I will make a seperate rant on the ending, but no... I don’t like it at all and I don’t see Spider forgiving Raven as a good ending

Any hcs for what the merc's favorite movies/tv shows are? You can choose either if you want. Btw your probs are valid, it's alright to take a break and I hope you're doing alright, perhaps better. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Is now a bad time to mention that my ADHD makes it hard af to watch movies, so I haven’t watched very many? At least I know a lot of Disney movies, Ghibli movies, and just a lot of movies that my dad likes, so there’s that. Prepare for a lot of Disney and weird indie films!

Engineer: This dude loves “The Matrix” and the Star Wars movies more than life itself. Seriously, if a Star Wars movie comes on, he’s physically unable to look away from the screen until after the credits. He also likes Disney’s “Robin Hood” furry movie, which Medic teases him for a lot.

Demoman: Excuse the possible pun, but he loves “Demolition Man” and he constantly quotes it to the other mercs (unfortunately for him, only Scout and Sniper get the references). He doesn’t watch it a lot, but when he does he’s all smiles for a few days afterwards.

Soldier: He unironically loves “National Treasure” and no one has the guts to criticize it in his presence. At least once a month he’ll force everyone else to watch it with him, but even without any other viewers he watches it almost nightly. Has a secret soft spot for “Old Yeller” but be warned, he’ll cry.

Medic: He really freaking likes “Clue: The Movie” (big same). He can quote damn near every line, and most of the other mercs also like it quite a lot, so if he puts it on, the rest of the team ends up quoting it for the next few weeks, much to the Administrator’s frustration.

Heavy: He loves “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”, “Spirited Away”, and “The Fox and the Hound” (even if the latter movie makes him bawl every time he watches it). He watched a lot of movies with his sisters growing up (I assume this ask is for a modern AU), so he takes a lot of comfort in animated films. He learned a lot of his English by watching them as a kid!

Pyro: They can’t get enough of “The Wizard of Oz”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and “My Neighbor Totoro” but tbh they’ll watch any animated Disney film if it’s on (they plug their ears and shut their eyes for any really sad/loud parts). They also really like a lot of the Pokemon films, their favorite being the third one.

Sniper: “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Fifth Element” are his absolute favorite movies, but he rarely rewatches them on the grounds that he’d rather watch new movies so he can find more favorites. He watches a lot of Ghibli movies with Pyro when they ask him to.

Spy: He fucking loves “So I Married an Axe Murderer” and watches it almost every time he visits Scout’s Mom. He just thinks it’s funny as all hell, but he doesn’t want anyone but his wife to know that he likes it. Secretly loves “The Aristocats” for pretty obvious reasons.

Scout: It’s a tie between “The Aristocats”, “101 Dalmatians”, and “Deadpool.” The first two Disney films were his favorites when he was a kid, and Deadpool is just endlessly funny to him. Tbh though, he’ll stop and watch anything that the other mercs put on, but no guarantees he’ll stick around until the end.

BONUS Miss Pauling: It’s a tie between “Coraline” and “Juno“ for her. She likes both movies a lot for different reasons; Coraline is really freaky and cool, while Juno just makes her feel good after a bad day. She’ll also watch any movie from the original Star Wars trilogy if it’s on.

Ok so ... I'm an old ass wizard 101 player, Haven't been on in a while from computer issues and man it really makes me teary eyed when I see all the new players just starting this beautiful journey/hellish journey. It's hard to believe I just started this back in 2012. My wizard is an old girl now. I'm not even level 90 yet because of the lack of time I could spend on the game but I still feel like one of those old veterans. Man I remember when Azteca was THE SHIT and now I'm not even sure how many world's there are beyond it. So yeah, to those who can still play, enjoy it. Enjoy these moments, even if it's a fucking 45 minute long ass battle with some stupid cheating sunovabitch and you don't even get the quest requirements when you finish ffs.

As for Pirate 101, god I remember how packed it was on launch date. Cool Ranch was my favorite world and I miss it so much. The graphics really kicked up there. I will never forget. I miss it all.

Wizard 101: Congratulations! You’ve won!

You remember Wizard 101?

Who am I kidding of course you don’t.

Please don’t kill me I’m not like Nazeem I swear.

Wizard 101 starts you off by picking a class(Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, Death). Then you design your character and you’re off to see the Great Tree of Ravenwood and it’s 6 schools of magic.

BUT! You are interrupted in your humble quest to learn and absorb information like the developing teen you play as by a mysterious cackling in the tower. So like a stupid person you investigate because knock off Dumbledore told you to.

Surprise, there’s an evil wizard in the tower. He tries to kill you with the sky. I’m not even joking I’m completely serious the man throws flaming meteors at your head. So you nearly die but are saved! By Knock Off Dumbledore! Wow!

After that traumatizing experience K.O.D sends you off to explore your dorms and meet your teachers. Just an FYI, every school has a dungeon across from it, avoid at all costs until you’re ready to get your ass kicked. But there is a chunk missing from Ravenwood, the School for Death. Apparently the evil wizard you ‘fought’ was a former teacher, and when he went insane he ripped the school out from the ground.

I should probably mention that by ground I mean floating island in the sky because that’s what the realms in this world are. Floating islands. In the sky.

So ignoring the feeling of unknown death by falling you get from walking to close to the chunk missing from the island exposing you to an endless abyss below, Ravenwood is actually quite pretty. I should probably mention that there is a giant sentient tree in the middle of the square and you eventually get to talk to him and go, this is so weird, inside his mouth to where the gateways to other realms reside inside his trunk.

Yeah.

Lets not talk about that.

Lets talk about something else. I wouldn’t be Babbles if my posts didn’t advertise weird story ideas for pre-existing properties so here we go.

6 different kids.

6 different players.

One for each school.

All of which screaming and running around confused as they were pulled from their homes and into the game. The six have the potential to become the most overpowered mages in the game because of their real world problem solving skills, common sense, and creative ideas for magic no one thinks of because every one else is even more of an idiot than they are.

However as they are busy screaming and sharing a maximum of one and a half brain cells, we will gently put that future in a box and wait till they are quiet enough to open it.

Once they are done running around and tripping on their robes, the kids start asking questions. They each discover that the others situation is the same as their own, so they sit down for ten minutes and talk and try to form a plan. They eventually agree on that the most likely way out of the game is simply complete it.

And so the quest begins and our merry band of cursing teenagers is told to get their ass in the tower to which they adamantly refuse because “Do you not HEAR the evil cackling?! I’m not touching that tower with a ten foot pole.” They are of course, dragged in anyway because K.O.D doesn’t actually care about his students safety he just wants bodies to throw at Evil Guy.

Unsurprising the kids have a close brush with death, but surprisingly after the meteor shower the Fire Mage picks up a broken piece of meteor and just yeets it Evil Guys head. It doesn’t do anything because he missed, but Evil Guy can respect stupid recklessness like that. He doesn’t get the chance to finish the job thanks to K.O.D finally showing up to save the kids an look good.

To outside observers. The kids are not impressed and hastily scribble down a plot to assassinate him and put a pin in it for later.

They are herded to their dorms where the six of them immediately break the rules once the teacher is out of sight and bunk in the same room.

The next morning when they are NOT running off of adrenaline and the fear of certain death they take the time to explore. And freak out when the tree starts talking.

I don’t remember what happens next so I’ll continue this later.

Death Mage: The calm one, mom friend. He is the second voice of reason in the group and is very quickly developing anxiety due to the crazy ones acts of pure stupid. Does his very best to keep everyone safe. Practically worships the buddy system at this point. Is grossed out by corpses.

Ice Mage: The main voice of reason. If the end boss doesn’t kill her, the stress of keeping order will. She may be reserved, but she is a ride or die kind of friend and will absolutely attack without hesitation. After egregious planning and plotting. She likes fried fish. However when confronted with a unicorn all maturity goes out the window and it’s like she’s six years old again.

Myth Mage: Chaotic, but a quiet sort. Always looking for loopholes. Prefers to send golems than to actually engage in combat. No one can tell whether they are a boy or a girl and honestly they’re afraid to ask. They have the potential to be a harbinger of doom but don’t care enough to do so. A cleaning maniac. They summon a cyclops in the undead district so they don’t have to get close to the undead walking around.

Storm Mage: Batshit crazy. She got struck by lighting in the middle of the and screamed “I AM G O D” before passing out and falling into a pond. She and Ice Mage have a rivalry over whether fried chicken or fried fish is better. T Posed at a vampire once. It worked. Has a minor case of kleptomania.

Fire Mage: He is Storm Mages partner in crime. Quotes vines regularly. Cries because he doesn’t have Internet. Adopts one of those funky little unicorn pets. Massive resistance to burns but very good at starting fires. Everywhere. Helpful against the undead because he feels like he’s in Zombieland and is just having a good old time. Basically the groups crowd control.

Life Mage: Arguably the most terrifying one in the group, she doesn’t have a large repertoire of offensive spells so she casts like 90 different shield charms on herself and sprints at her enemies with a knife and screaming war cries in elvish. When she does get hurt, she just casts a healing spell and just keeps on going. You cannot stop her. She's decided to be a harbinger after being told that she must be kind and good and not to be violent out of complete spite. Massive Tolkien fan. Great cook. Beat a banshee to death with a studded baseball bat once. Really likes board games.

Wow. This was RIDICULOUSLY long and I can't really believe I finished it. Regardless of the intimidating length (heh), it was a captivating story. Though it edged near soap opera levels of drama at times, the plot was sure, the characters grew and developed, and the writing was excellent. Very good read--highly recommended. Perhaps not for the sensitive (in regards to Drugs or abuse). Also not for john!stans.
