the more i read about classpects, the more i’m convinced i’m an heir of heart. the concept of a a malleable and changing identity is very interesting and i think personally i think it fits well. it’s quite difficult for me to find labels to fit myself, even picking my own classpect was a bit of a challenge, as a witch of time, then a rogue of time, a sylph of heart, then a muse, then bard, and now heir. i spent years trying to figure out my own gender, eventually landing on genderfluid which is itself a constant state of motion. i’m still not entirely sure my own romantic orientation, though aro seems to be a good fit? still not sure about that though, because when i find a label that fits it definitely seems to click immediately. anyway i think way too much about classpects lol

I’m in love with how they are giving so many subtle hints about Alhaitham and Kaveh’s relationship and how important it is to Alhaitham, despite the way they always seem to be bickering.
Throughout the 3.2 archon quest Alhaitham tells us that the reason why he is so interested in helping Sumeru is because he doesn’t want his daily life to change. After that Kaveh starts being mentioned very frequently by him or we hear other people in the akademiya complain about how they daily argue.
Then, of course, we meet them both arguing with each other in the House of Daena, which was quite the argument. We also know many of their casual interactions and how they go to the café/bar frequently together. Furthermore, Alhaitham pays all of Kaveh’s bills (something no one would do for someone they don't care for).
And now, during Alhaitham’s quest, their tones were so soft (At least in JP and CN) and also domestic. Kaveh seems to worry a lot about Alhaitham and exchanges glances with him, which made me melt inside. I also love how Alhaitham is constantly smiling while bickering with kaveh. Remember, we dont see him smiling like this that often. Which means he really enjoys it. I really liked how after the second time Kaveh asked him if he is okay, he replied with a tease about the painting Kaveh had mentioned before. Also smiling.

But most importantly, something I see no one talking about: the moment when Alhaitham was explaining why he resigned from being the Grand Sage to being the scribe again and he tells us that “It’s important to keep your priorities straight”, the camera points at Kaveh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know this game will probably never have any canon ship because they need to make everyone happy, but we do get hints like this from time to time and I think this was one of them.
After all, why would they bother to add all of those scenes with Kaveh when the quests had already concluded, if not for showing us how is what is Alhaitham’s daily life he wants to protect that much? We saw how happy he is, how eager he was to get home and go have dinner with Kaveh. We also see how Kaveh had been waiting for him as well.
I’d like to know more about their relationship, even if it ends up not being romantic (though how do you explain that face Kaveh made when paimon asked if they are friends).

After they run away together, Marwa and the Djinn make like tourists through modern day Iran! I wish I had the energy to do a more detailed background bc every ref of Iranian street markets was so colorful and full of STUFF, extremely overwhelming, no wonder Marwa had to ask him to stop buying everything she looked at. SIMP.
(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1. Marwa and the Djinn in an outdoor street market somewhere in Iran. Marwa is wearing a loose green halter dress over a long sleeve yellow shirt with brown leaf patterns. She has a yellow belt at her waist and a dark puce hijab over her hair. She is leaning down to look through a telescope for sale, cooing with interest, "Ooh, this one is nice, as well!" Behind her, the Djinn, wearing his usual rumpled brown suit, jumps to attention and instinctively clicks his pen. A "sold" tag poofs into existence on the telescope.
2. Marwa turns to the Djinn with a confused smile, reminding him, "You don't have to conjure everything for me..." The Djinn grabs the wrist holding his pen with his other hand, shaking with effort as he tries to lower it forcibly. "Sorry," he grimaces, flushing red.
3. Later, the market now closing as night settles and the full moon rises in the sky, Marwa and the Djinn walk side by side. Marwa has a leather satchel strapped over her shoulder and is happily munching on a stick of Jigar, flowers floating around her head. The Djinn walks next to her, holding his own empty stick in one hand and a load of shopping bags in the other. His expression is vaguely dazed as he gazes past the viewer, flowers also floating around his head. Text pointing to him reads 'best day ever' /end ID

Disco Elysium & Language
Okay okay so a bit ago I (foolishly) decided to (poorly) translate all 200-something pages of A Sacred and Terrible Air, despite having zero experience with Estonian whatsoever (so, you know, take what I’m saying here with a huge grain of salt).
There’s a small thing that gets lost in the translation from Estonian to English, the object of my obsession: The Pale
Its original Estonian counterpart is ”halli” (which essentially functions as “the gray” [a part of a whole], as opposed to “hall”, which is just “gray” [a color]).  Hall and Pale are both used to describe the color of skin due to No Blood.  They have similar connotations & uses.
Easy-peasy.  Let’s look at the Chapter 15 title “Hallitus”.  Hey, that looks kinda familiar, I see a “halli” in there.
First we gotta backtrack.  Hallitus is just a noun derived from the verb hallitama.
Hallitama is built from “hall” (”gray”) plus -tama (suffix for making a noun in to a verb, generally means “to make”).  So, hallitama would (should?) literally mean “to make gray” or “graying”. BUT!  It actually means “to mold”.  Like an apple being coated in a gray fuzz, hallitama is “to mold / to go moldy”.  Oooh!
So “hallitus” means “moldy”.  But it also, sorta, means “grayed thing”/”pale’d thing”.
So, we have this word that’s used to describe all sorts of manner of withering, decaying, frail, or dead things.
I don’t know, it tickles the brain.

As part of my ADHD diagnosis intake process (or whatever you call this), there’s a massive quiz I have to take. I THOUGHT I was prepared. I was not.
Aside from leaving it to almost the last minute (I have a week to complete), I just... these questions... what. WHAT. I mean, some of them are super easy, but a good chunk of them have caused a level of internal anguish I normally assign to tax returns, math, or social interactions with strangers.
I don’t know if this proves anything. I’m only half way through and part of me wants to cry.
I think a good chunk of the anxiety stems from the hard dichotomy of a simple “true or false” answer system. I am in hell.

hi tumblr! some weird/awful shit is going on in my personal life right now (it's bad but I will be okay!) and I don't know yet what the fallout will be, only that it will probably be expensive as fuck.
no pressure (seriously, no pressure), but if you feel like you've gotten something of value from my content over the years, it would mean a lot if you would consider throwing a buck or 2 my way through ko-fi or paypal.
again, no pressure (I'm going to be ok I promise, a little help would just make my situation that much easier to maneuver. take care of yourself first!)

Anyway I just think one of the many reasons OFMD resonates with me so much is its focus on kindness and hope. Here you have these two men who have hit a wall, who feel trapped and hopeless within the confines of their lives. And all it takes is one chance meeting, one chance event, for their lives to turn completely around. A bit of kindness and understanding from someone is what powers them on. And I adore that so much.
It shows that, no matter how bleak, there’s still light to be found. There’s still kindness awaiting you. That, at any moment, your life could take an unexpected turn towards peace, and warmth, and happiness. That you can suddenly and unexpectedly be found.
I just think that’s important, especially with so many people feeling directionless right now- myself included. It’s even more important that it shows all of this happening with middle aged men too. Because, society loves to put a hard time limit on age. As in, if you don’t have it all figured out by your mid-twenties, you’ve somehow failed or missed your chance.
But OFMD shows that there’s still time. There’s always still time. And there’s always still warmth and kindness awaiting.

“Theo and Liam turn back to see Gabe aiming his assault rifle at them, causing Theo to waste no time putting his arm around Liam's shoulders and thrusting them both forward as fast as he can so they can duck.”
really gives “you’re going first” a new meaning doesn’t it.

Random thoughts about Spider from Avatar 2
So I know everyone really hates Spider and don't get me wrong I love the memes but I want to analyse his character a bit beyond "he betrayed neteyam by saving Quaritch".
Because that isn't the full story here. So from the comics which includes Spiders childhood and "origin" story we see his mother is killed at a very young age. So there's trauma number one as we know his dad is also dead making him an orphan. He is then abandoned by the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE by being left behind. I know he is raised by norm and the scientists but cmon that's abandonment issues squared. Then on top of that he is labelled a "pandoran human" (a human born on pandora) which he is the first one ever. This separates him from other humans as well and would explain even further his connection to the planet.
All of that alone in a young teenage boy is gonna traumatise him enough into making some perhaps stupid choices (I don't think him saving Quaritch was stupid, it was an emotionally loaded decision). But it doesn't end there with abandonment issues because although he grows up alongside the Sully family (and therefore Na'vi culture) he is never truly a part of that culture. He has no way to connect to ewya by the hair thing (I can't remember what it's called). He is disconnected on a physical level trying to keep up with the Na'vi, being unable to breathe with them, being separated from their cultural practice and not being able to take part in their religion no matter how much he may believe in ewya.
And despite all this he seems happy, at least in the comics and flashbacks of the movie. He is content enough with how things are with the Sully's. He clearly cares a lot about them and views them like his family.
Yet Jake literally refers to him as "a stray cat" that won't quite leave them alone. Neytiri openly dislikes him and probably ignored him as best as she could (a decision fueled by her own trauma but also he husband is half human?? Like girl pick a standard at least Spider hasn't committed war crimes unlike Jake). We actually don't see much if the kids interacting with Spider once their older apart from the scene where he goes "it's not great to know who your father is 😐"
Which yes was a funny scene but really he is opening up about what is probably a strong point of trauma with him and he gets ZERO support or recognition from people he sees as family.
I remember watching the movie and getting half way through and just constantly thinking "the Sully's haven't mentioned spider yet? When are they going back for spider? That boy is being tortured and no one cares? No one cares cause he's human?" I know getting him back wasn't feasible for Jake but they don't even say his name. They go and play with the fish and forget he ever even existed. Jake's main concern is what Spider will say, he assumed he couldn't be trusted despite practically raising that boy. Imagine you are abandoned by everyone, your parents are dead, you have never been accepted ever. And then you find out that you "family" forgot about you AGAIN. Spider has every right to be hurt and he wasn't.
I'm disappointed because we had an opportunity for an halarious dynamic is Neytiri and Jake had adopted Spider more officially when Quaritch return they could be like "we killed your ass and stole your son :p". Objectively I think that would be way more entertaining.
Him saving Quaritch if anything proves he is better than his father and maybe even Jake. Spider is literally breaking a cycle of abuse and violence in this movie but no one is willing to see it. Him teaching Quaritch the way of the Na'vi may seem like betrayal but really what we see is a traumatised abandoned child sharing his love for his home. What he is doing is more that what Jake did by trying to bride the gap with the Na'vi, Spider is bridging the gap with the sky people. Which I think will make the difference in the war.
I don't know if Quaritch will get a redemption arc but I do know Spider deserves better than everything he has been given. And the solution isn't to just give Spider an avatar body but to give him a home and the unconditional love a child deserves.
