THE SPIDER HAS (POTENTIALLY) BEEN CAUGHT-

my dad just came back to check if the spider has crawled out of its hiding spot (we didn't see the spider anywhere in my room though) so my dad left. a short time later he came back with a glass and a magazine asking if the spider from my room had been this big or even bigger (it fit inside the glass, he was worried before that the glass would be too small for the figuratively little shit)

apparently the thing crawled out under the door and was just chilling in the Treppenhaus when he left. we assume that it's the same spider (otherwise it'd have been two spiders?? that have been terrorizing me for days by just sitting there menacingly????) but just to make sure my dad advised me to still sleep on the couch

I'm still processing Season 6 and as an unpopular opinion I'm not too happy about it as a whole. I feel horrible for not enjoying it as much as the Cast/Crew would like me to, but I just can’t change this feeling I have.

Just to clear my head I'll write the things down that irked me. I don't want to start any discussion, they're only my thoughts on stuff ‘n thangs. Huge spoilers ahead, please don’t read if you haven’t watched.

Michael

I admit it, I have probably more sympathy for the bad twin than I should. And after the whole S5 I thought we get a bit more closure with him. I didn’t expect a redemption arc, after Michael killed Remiel, Dan and Chloe it would have felt wrong. But after the “Everyone deserves a second chance” the dude is down in hell, scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush. Really, Lucifer? That’s cruel after such a righteous line.

When Luci realized he could help everyone, even if he hated them, I hoped for a dive into the twins’ relationship but it was like Michael didn’t even existed anymore. And if someone needed therapy it would be the twin with the huge inferior complex. That could have been so interesting. (I had hoped that he'd sat on the couch at the end, but noooo we get the Frenchman.. such a disappointment.)

Maybe Tom Ellis didn’t want to play 2 roles again, or there was no time, but I feel that was a huge opportunity wasted.

What even was the plan of Michael? To get God to retire and wreck havoc on earth to get Dad back, so Mickey can take over as the new God? And then what? Wipe out humanity? I see no endgame here.

Ella

I liked Ella’s Story so far. But she stole the personal file of Carol and even broke into his house.. and everybody is cool with this? Carol might be crushing on Ella pretty hard but if somebody tells you they broke into your house, because they feared you were hiding something bad, You run for the hills. But the dude isn’t even phased.

I’m glad Carol is a good guy, though. Even if he’s kind of bland.

Ella finding out the truth on her own came out of nowhere. I would have found it better if they would have her act a little suspicious over the whole S5. But since they wrote S6 while S5 was shot, a little to late for this.

The scene at the wedding was amazing. I had so much fun with her outburst there.

Dan

Ghost!Dan was my favorite by far in this season. And I really liked how he wanted to help and tried to find out what he still felt guilty about.

I am so glad he got to spend his afterlife with Charlotte and I laughed so hard with the pudding. Didn’t expect that, in a positive matter. :D

The scene with Trixie killed me. Bawled so hard as soon as Kevin got teary eyes. That really gripped at my heartstrings.

But how could he go to heaven while in a body of a killer when his daughter stands right next to that killer?

Comedy-wise Dan is top notch

Trixie

I missed her so much.

It felt like she was an afterthought with everything. She recently lost her Dad and Chloe spends most of the time with Lucifer. I really missed the scenes with her and Luci, they always were so adorable.

They explain it later that she’s at a science camp, but I honestly thought Chloe chooses Lucifer (and later Rory too) over her.

She wasn’t at Chloe’s deathbed but here I’m not sure if the scene with Rory isn’t placed somewhere at the threshold to heaven where only celestials are able to enter. But if she wasn’t there because Chloe sidelined her in favor of Rory, then I can understand her absence.

Linda

I love Linda, she always gives good advice but nobody’s ever took it.

Her book probably would fly under the fantasy tag if she ever published it. Still, it felt cringey.

It was so sad that she thought she was a bad therapist.

Apparently she wants to keep helping celestials because it’s better than helping humans. In the end, celestials have the same problems as humans just on a bigger scale. But okay.

Amenadiel

Amenacop was good, and a nice nod to Dan who put in the application.

It made him realize that he only can change things when he has more power. I’m white and no american so I don’t know if the BLM theme there was well enough executed. Got me wondering.

The apocalypse just being Angels who are incompetent was a letdown. Like this whole season.

I really like him as god. And I am glad he took the position in the end. Even if he could have decided this a bit earlier.

Rory

I like her sarcasm and her character.

Didn’t like the whole time travel, time loop and daughter spiel. I’m not a big fan of time travels or couples getting a kid just for the sake of a happy end or to add extra drama. I could have lived without a Deckerstar baby. Instead they could have focused on Trixie for a change.

The time she spent with Lucifer on the 4th August was precious though.

How in hell did the Frenchman capture her? How did he even know how she looked? IIRC Dan hasn’t seen Rory while in that body. Dan just went over to Trixie that’s why I thought he’d capture her and not Rory.

Lucifer

He found his calling to help the souls in hell only because Rory traveled back in time? No man, he already took the step with Jimmy Barnes in preparation to take over as god. I don’t think it’s far fetched to believe that he would have the same epiphany without Rory there.

But without Rory, he wouldn’t have been helping Ghost!Dan to go to heaven. Though, before Rory traveled back in time, Lucifer was already trying to help Dan. They probably would have needed more time to figure out about what Dan felt guilty about, but figure it out anyways.

How did he even got Chloe pregnant? Was it his subconscious deciding he was ready to be a father? Amenadiel had to believe that he was human to get Linda pregnant. Or maybe it’s because they always thought they couldn’t impregnate a human and self-actualized it that way. Anyways, it’s a tiny hang-up I have with it.

Somebody else besides me thought that the scene in the panic room was awkwardly long? I know they thought Lucifer would vanish somehow, but it seemed too much to me.

His singsong while the magician talked about the trick. :D

I don’t want to even get into the whole time loop thing because I think it’s ridiculous(ly bad).

It took a lot of time for him to realize that he didn’t want to be god, after he put it on hold for a second time. Even Chloe could have asked him if that is really what he wanted. Could have spared us an episode or so. Why is the communication on this show so bad? Q.Q

I loved that he helped Maze with Eve to get the wedding back on after their fight.

He didn’t say goodbye to Trixie  - again. What a nice step-devil..

It’s been Chloe, Rory and his family since he found out she’s his daughter. Not even mentioning the one kid who probably loved him before even Chloe fell for him.

For someone who is all about free will and led a rebellion against God for it, he was quick to accept that he has a “fate”. I thought he’d find another way, or at least try to. Nope, he just did what his child wanted. And they disguised it at his “choice”. Doesn’t look like a choice to me if your daughter begs you for it and you have to promise it. Just getting along with what your child wants.

Why does everyone need to shoot him? Just cut him until he bleeds. The Americans and their fixation on guns. Nice parallel to Chloe though.

Lucifer trying to fix the relationship to Rory with gifts was so cringey. I don’t know why but I couldn’t watch him sing/dance in that scene.

Both him and Amenadiel didn’t want to become like their Dad because of the reasons stated in S5, yet Lucifer exactly did. Another letdown.

 

Chloe

As soon as she knew Rory was her and Lucifer’s daughter it was all only about Lucifer and Rory. No thought of Trixie? I understand she was worried about being a bad mother to Rory, but come on, you’re being a bad mother to your first child right now.

She was ready to go to heaven with Lucifer. And Trixie does what exactly without her parents? Living with her Grandma because one of her parent died and the other one is abandoning her? It’s like the writers forgot about Trixie while forcing Rory on us.

The addiction to the necklace got old pretty fast.

And that whole fight against Lucifer felt unnecessary just to add more drama.

She gets mad at Lucifer for not telling her everything while not telling him that she went back to the LAPD. It’s Lucifer, he always has things on his plate. Double moral, pretty much.

She looked so gorgeous at the wedding, oh my god.

Most of the Deckerstar scenes were good. I got tired of the obvious naked cuddle times, surprisingly. Somehow it felt not like the ones in S5 and it bothered me.

I thought Chloe would finally get to know about everything Lucifer did for her, but I didn’t expect her to read it in Linda’s book. And that she only took away that he left her every time they had an emotional breakthrough.

They spend Lucifer’s last day at the beach and once again, no thought of Trixie. I’m sorry I repeat myself here so often. But this whole season wronged Trixie so much.

They face the baddie without any backup.  At least get Amenadiel with you.

Other things

The use of music between scenes was too much for me. Got annoying at some point.

I appreciate that they wanted to show us snippets of past Deckerstar scenes but here too, I felt like it was too much.

Couldn’t really follow the timeline. Maybe it were the cuts.

What’s been the point of bringing Adam into the mix? Just to wrap up Maze and Eve’s story? For Linda having another celestial to therapy?

The animation in the Jimmy Barnes Hell loop was AMAZING. I laughed so hard.

I’m not saying that Deckerstar shouldn’t have sacrificed everything for the time loop to stay intact, I say that the whole daughter-time travel plot shouldn’t have had happened. They never even talked about having kids, and then ignore the whole existence of the one kid that’s already there.

I really need all the Michaella fanfics, please. My first ship that’s actually a raft, because they never officially have met. RIP lmao

The acting was great as usual, all my problems come from the writing and the plot.

In the end, I really feel frustrated, underwhelmed and disappointed by the whole season. I didn’t have high expectations other than the same writing quality like S5. My excitement for that Season died as soon as Rory told Lucifer that she’s his daughter, to be honest. I waited for a plot twist that never came. Then the whole time loop shit.  I’d rather have waited one more year for S6 if the plot would have made more sense, since this felt like a first draft of a whole other show. And now I wished that S5 would have been the last season. If I could travel back in time, I’d rather not watch S6.

I can honestly live with the fact that Luci and Chloe are in hell, trying to help souls to get to heaven. (But hello, not the murderers perhaps? Or I want Michael sitting on that couch right now.) But the fact that both “chose” to sacrifice their time together with their family and friends just because it’s fate now and parents have to make sacrifices for their children; and anyways there’s an afterlife because (human) life is just a blip in our existence��� nah thank you. I do not want it.

I’m probably not gonna rewatch S6 anytime soon.

PROLOGUE | CHAPTER 1

Birds tweeting, sun shining…

Big strong arms around you.

“Well, well, Wells,” you say with a scratchy morning voice and twist your body around in bed to see who’s got you in his grasp. Ah. “Good morning, Harry.”

“Good morning, (Y/L/N),” the scientist replies. You just love how strands of his hair stick up in place. Harry arguably has the best bedhead.

“You know dear, since we are married after all, don’t you think it would be more acceptable to call me by my first name?”

Harry chuckles and pulls you closer against him.

“You do raise a fair point. (Y/N).”

“That’s more like it.”

He kisses your nose. Shortly after he does, it starts to feel itchy. You feel like you’re about to sneeze. It wiggles and wiggles until—

“Achoo!”

Suddenly, Harry, who had been clad in his silky pyjamas is now- oh my.

“(Y/N), did you just sneeze my clothes away?”

You can hardly answer the Wells in your bed because you’re so enthralled by his lack of clothing under the sheets.

“Happy accident?” you offer innocently. Harry shakes his head and smiles as if to signify that you’re up to your old antics again.

“Come here, you,” he says and pulls the covers over you both.

* * * *

The scene is really quite comical.

Harry walks briskly with his long legs into work at S.T.A.R. Toys Manufacturing Inc. as you try to keep up with quick little steps and a clipboard… while H.R. trails behind you like a maniac with a tray of coffee.

“(Y/N), I believe you have some explaining to do,” Harry speaks to you over his shoulder. “Can you remind me why you’re at work with me? And why the numbskull, too?”

“Handsome numbskull!” H.R. jokingly clarifies. Harry rolls his eyes.

“I told you, honey,” you begin, “I decided it would be best for me to get a job instead of sitting around the house. Plus, an assistant here was the only position available. I thought that was terribly convenient. We can spend more time together now, isn’t that wonderful? As for H.R., I hired him as my assistant!”

“My assistant has an assistant?”

“Don’t question it, honey,” you tell him and pat him on the cheek. Just then, two young employees walk up to you. They look rather familiar, but you can’t place why at the moment.

“Good morning, Mr. Wells,” the pair greet Harry. “And Mrs. Wells. ...And Mr. Wells.”

“Ah, good morning Garcia. Runk,” Harry answers. “I trust your projects are coming along?”

“That they are, Sir,” the young man called Runk replies.

“We should have them finished and ready by end of day,” Garcia, the young woman, adds.

“I’m glad to hear it-”

“-Well done, chaps!” H.R. interrupts. “You’re all doing such magnificent work. All for the children.”

“All for the children,” Garcia and Runk agree.

Harry clears his throat and whispers to you, “I think assistants to the assistants should be seen and not heard.”

“I’ll have a little chat with him,” you tell your handsome boss husband. “Now, let’s build some toys!”

* * * *

After a long day at the factory, you, Harry, and H.R. all return home. The delicious scent of dinner greets you as you walk in the door.

“Mmm, I wonder what Sherloque and Nash are cooking up!” you think out loud.

“I hope it’s nothing French,” Harry says semi-bitterly.

“H.R., can you go see what they’re up to in there, sweetie?”

“I most certainly can, dearest!” he responds then disappears into the kitchen. You are sure to take this opportunity to have some more one-on-one time with Harry on the couch. As you sit, he sets his briefcase down on the coffee table and removes from it a small rocket ship. After turning it around in his hands, Harry hands it to you.

“I’d been working on this today,” he says.

“Oh Harry, it is so groovy. You do such fine work.”

“The idea came to me in a dream.”

“You make dreams come true for children every day.”

Harry turns to you. “I think I’ve always wanted kids. But I guess it’s never happened for me.” He looks into your eyes. “I think I’d like to have one with you someday, (Y/N). How do you feel about that?”

“I feel… I feel…” Your nose starts to wiggle again. “Achoo!”

“(Y/N), are you sure you’re feeling okay?”

“Oh, yes, I’m completely and totally, whoaaaa!” You stand up to get a better look at yourself, finding that your tummy has a noticeable roundness to it.

“Are you…?” Harry asks. The rest of the Wells men come rushing into the living room.

“Qu’est-ce qui se passe?”

“I heard another sneeze!”

“Jumping juniper, (Y/N)’s pregnant!”

They all group around you in a half-circle to admire your belly and to declare their delight at the very abrupt surprise.

“Is this really happening?” you ask all of them, falling deeper and deeper into your happiness.

“I couldn’t imagine a better life with you,” Harry says and punctuates his final word with a kiss. Everything about this moment just seems… so much more colourful and vibrant.

And perfect.

~ ~ ~ ~

Barry had urgently messaged Cisco and Caitlin to meet him back at the Grand Central City Auditorium, where they had just seen Zatanna’s magic act. The plan—what very little of a plan he had—was to race to find Zatanna, the Mistress of Magic, and ask for her help.

Word on the street was that Miss Zatara’s act wasn’t mere illusions. People have said that she really does possess a special magical power. And if this was the case, she was their only hope to retrieve you from whatever world you’ve gotten yourself into.

They say sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Well, now Team Flash is going to fight magic with magic.

It took a bit of making a scene inside the venue with the security guards for Zatanna to finally come out of her dressing room to see who was causing the commotion.

“Hi, excuse me, what’s going on here?”

“Zatanna? My name is Barry Allen,” your brother introduces himself. “I was at your show tonight.”

“Flawless,” Cisco can’t help but add.

“Sure,” she says, probably very much wanting him to get to the point. “How can I help you, Barry Allen?”

“We have a bit of a magical issue. My sister has gotten herself into a situation. We need your help.”

Zatanna’s big round eyes squint slightly, but whatever she sees in these three strangers surely isn’t threatening.

“Your sister, you say?” The Mistress of Magic always did have a soft spot for family. “Where is she?”

“You better come with us and see for yourself.”

~ ~ ~ ~

“Wow, this is quite the setup,” Zatanna says, taking in the Cortex upon her arrival. “Now, you said that your sister is broadcasting her own sitcom?”

“That’s right,” Barry confirms. “I switched on the TV earlier, and there she was in black and white. But the weird thing is that her set looked almost identical to her home, except not because her real home exploded-”

“Yeah, that’s the weird bit,” Cisco pipes up sarcastically. “Definitely not that she’s married to four different versions of the same man.”

“What?” Zatanna looks entirely confused. “Okay, you guys are going to have to catch me up.”

“No problem. The episode is streaming online. On repeat.”

“Cisco, pull up the show on the monitors,” Barry orders. The engineer does so, and the crew proceeds to analyze the sitcom episode.

“This man... or these men, rather—you said they died?” Zatanna asks the room. The rundown the gang gave her on the way to S.T.A.R Labs was quite rushed, so naturally it would only generate more questions.

“That’s right. I saw them disappear before my eyes,” Barry confirms. “They sacrificed themselves for us.”

Zatanna hums in thought. “Whether they’re truly dead or not, she must be using an incredible amount of magic to create this world and broadcast this across the airwaves.”

“Guys!” Caitlin raises her voice. “We have an incoming broadcast!”

The monitors change after a bit of static. Now, instead of the episode Team Flash was watching, a brand new jingle comes through the speakers.

“Is this…?” Barry starts.

“She released Episode Two!” Cisco cheers. Everyone in the room shoots him a look. “What? I’m invested.” As they watch the new episode, they take frantic notes, searching for any kind of clues.

“Look!” Barry points at the screen to the familiar faces.

“How did Allegra and Chester get in there?” Caitlin wonders.

“They have a guest-starring role…” Cisco notes, possibly with a hint of jealousy.

“And who are they?” Zatanna inquires.

“They’re our friends,” Barry clarifies. “At least, I think they are. They can't be illusions, can they? Created by (Y/N)?”

“I’ll call them and see if we can hear their phones ringing in the show,” Caitlin suggests. As she attempts the call, the rest of the team stands and stares at the screens hoping for some form of ringing sound. This episode seemed to be styled more in the Sixties, so it was unlikely that they’d actually see Chester and Allegra pull out a cell phone.

Nothing. No sound.

They must not have their phones on them…

A little while longer passes, with even more analyses by Team Flash and Zatanna studying your power on screen. Once in a while, she’ll ask Barry for background information about you. Which brings her to ask the all important question:

“How did (Y/N) get her powers?”

Barry goes on to explain your origin story, which coincides with his own. It was that one fateful night where Barry was in his CSI lab at CCPD, and so were you. You had stopped by to see how he was doing after the whole debacle of Iris getting her laptop stolen and Eddie saving the day instead. (To Barry’s credit, he tried really hard to catch the criminal, he just wasn’t fast enough). But you were checking up on him when the Particle Accelerator exploded and sent a wave of extraordinary, uncontained power across the city. You saw the lightning in the sky and tried to get Barry away from holding that metal chain, but in doing so, you also got caught in the crosshairs of the accident. Your brother fell into the shelf of chemicals as the lightning struck at the same time you knocked over a box of evidence—stolen ancient crystals from the Central City Museum.

Zatanna takes in the story silently, nodding in the right places. She’s deep in thought when a voice comes from the entrance to the Cortex: “Hey guys, what’s going on in here?”

Barry rushes to the two younger members of Team Flash, Allegra and Chester. “How did you two get in there? How did you get out?”

“Get in where?” Allegra wonders.

“Come on! In (Y/N)’s sitcom,” Cisco says. “Did she send out a casting call or did she just tell you that you got the parts?”

Chester and Allegra glance at each other with identical furrowed brows.

“You really don’t know what happened, do you?” Caitlin asks them.

“What happened?” they reply in unison.

Cisco stands up immediately. “I’ll get the popcorn.”

As he replays the footage, both of the ‘guest stars’ shake their heads in disbelief.

“Wow, nope, don’t remember any of that,” Chester says.

“No,” Allegra agrees. “One minute I’ve got my feet up in the Lounge, and the next I’m here walking into the Cortex.”

“Interesting,” Caitlin muses. “Interesting, but beyond strange. It’s like they’ve been mind wiped of the experience. We need more answers.” The rest of the episode plays out to reveal the big cliffhanger at the end.

“(Y/N)’s going to have a baby?!” Cisco shouts. “Oh man, things just got real. I wonder who’s the father... You don’t think (Y/N) would turn her show into a Maury episode, do you?”

“Zatanna, is there anything you can do?” Barry asks desperately. “This is getting out of hand.”

“I can cast a locating spell. All I have to do is say the words of what I wish backward for it to take hold.” Zatanna readies herself. “(N/Y) etacol,” the magician utters with her eyes closed. Everyone in the room stands silent in case making any kind of noise would ruin whatever spell she has cast.

They hold their breaths.

“I’m getting something…” Zatanna says eventually. “It’s like a signal of sorts. I can see it in my mind. And it’s coming from… here.”

“What do you mean, ‘here’?” Barry presses.

“Here. As in S.T.A.R. Labs.”

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

A lot. Just...a lot before I got into Ao3 so let’s keep it at that. But mainly I wrote for SU, Amphibia, and FMA.

4) What are your top five fics by kudos?

-Death of the Ego

I would say this happened because I wrote this at the right place at the right time. People had been theorizing that Steven would get corrupted ever since the trailer to SUF, and I originally made this as a one-shot...until people encouraged me to start exploring it.

Wouldn’t say it was my best work, but every time I wrote something it meant I improved slowly, and I would always appreciate that no matter the weather.

-Doesn’t Have to be Solo

Oh man, I loved this one! Just a series of connected events with Steven going on his road trip, and learning more about himself and who he was along the way. It also was the fic where I needed a lot of beta readers as time went on, so it made me learn a lot about grammar, prose, and overall the internal rules I developed while writing in general.

-Beyond the Music Box

This was the surprising one! This fic was originally a place where I could archive all the drabbles I written on Tumblr, and y’all really wanted it due to how chaotic my tag format is for this stuff.

It’s surprising for me because I didn’t expect a lot of love when it came to my casual writings since they take I don’t know an hour or so in creating, so thank you everyone who encouraged me to do this.

Just ignore the fact I’ve been lazy at updating the drabbles, shhhh.

-Building One Up

Marcanne, my beloved. Me and my friend kept talking about how Anne was a buff dork and this was at a time where no one really focused on that except mainly on Sasha when it came to strength (for obvious reasons).

I found this slander (I’m joking, by the way) and decided that I needed to write my feelings out on the topic.

And y’all agreed with me so dthdfthtfhtfht.

This also was the first time I had to hone in on a new form of characterization entirely, being that I infused the character’s thoughts and feelings into the way the prose flowed out itself. For Marcy, I went on a pretty analytical front with this piece, and it helped me get into the groove for people like Anne and Sasha and many others over the course of writing.

-Late Night Talks

I didn’t expect this one to blow up at all. I wrote this at one a.m. and y’all just grabbed this fic and ran, I am still confused.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I respond to comments all the time because comments just give a lot of serotonin, you know? Someone took their time out of their day to remark on things I did in the work itself, and it’s just very validating to see. It also creates this environment that says, “Yes, I see you, and you can interact with me anytime you want.” so it’s all about that friendliness unless you’re rude to me back.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Pizza for One. Had an angst kick when SUF occurred so I milked it whenever my motivation got the best of me.

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t write crossovers unless you mean a crossover of characters to a new environment and set of rules. I would gladly write characters into the FMA world, oh my Lord!

But I guess the craziest stuff I’d written would just be comedy sketches? Best example would be Joe and Bessie having kids and Marcy having a conniption over it, so take that what you will.

8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I don’t believe so? I did get one person on my old SU fic asking me to continue while giving me unsolicited advice but they apologized not soon after.

9) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do write smut. I write it privately but I adore characterization and intimacy, and so I try to make rather domestic pieces that connect to the characters themselves. If it has a certain kink, I make sure to research it so I could understand why the character finds the act rather arousing, and I just want to pay respects to the act itself.

Even with our current day and age, there’s still a lot of conservative anti-sex rhetoric going around, and I always try to view the act of physical intimacy in the same lens as one who adores love in all its different facets and forms.

10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope.

11) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope to that either!

12) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Sadly, no. I do art trades with people and those are lovely to do since we get to brainstorm and make art together, but I’ve never co-written work with someone. If anyone wants to do that, then sure, just hit me up.

13) What’s your all time favourite ship?

It changes every season, every morning tide, every peace loving hour on the Planet Earth.

It’s Marcanne, right now.

When it comes to ships I always go with the Friends-to-Lovers dynamic, but a lot of the ships I have come from seeing the amount of intrigue in how that type of ship would play out. That could be with Kannao and the amount of commentary over Japanese gender biases, or Royai with their very complicated but extensive adoration and loyalty to one another.

For Marcanne, it’s all about that playful banter that could definitely bubble out of the surface if you just (bangs table) allow them to communicate and be transparent fully. (cries)

14) What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Sadly, that Anne fic with her confiding in Hop Pop after they get settled in her house. After what happened with the sneak peek, I realized that this fic would need a lot of build-up to be satisfying and I didn’t have the strength to do a 10k build-up to Anne crying.

Maybe I’ll finish it, we’ll see.

15) What are your writing strengths?

Writing strengths would be concise prose and characterization. I am a worry wart, I worry over the importance of each paragraph and how it all forms and transitions together, it’s just a part of how I work a great deal of the time. And man, characterization is the big one for me, if I don’t understand how the people work and could theoretically function in the story itself, I feel absolutely lost.

Which is also the reason why I’m struggling right now with FDD Chapter Eight, because Marcy’s reaction to Yunan keeps eluding my grasp!

16) What are your writing weaknesses?

I overthink a lot. Concise prose is great but I force myself to get all fancy and massive with details since I’ve got to unless I want a specific part to be so quick and unmeaningful, and this leads to pacing issues or just not enough intended time for people to breathe in the fic itself.

17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I need to get a beta to make sure I don’t sound like an asshole, haha. I do love other languages, they are beautiful and can add a lot towards an audience who does know the language itself, but it depends on the work I’m doing.

18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

That would be uhhhhh, my memory is lacking but Minecraft. The whole videogame had a wish fulfillment atmosphere to it, and since I got rather obsessed by how anything could happen in the engine itself I went with it.

19) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

When it comes to me, my own perception of my art changes day to day. Back when I first posted the Lapidot fic I thought it was the best thing I’ve ever done even though now, with the knowledge I have from workshops and betas, that the style I drafted had a lot of grammar and prose mistakes that I wouldn’t make in the future. It is pretty subjective, but for now I think the best fic I could look at right now would be amestrian catcher (set something ablaze).

Pairing: Robot!Namjoon x Reader

Genre: Friendship, Comedy, Soft boy, Fluff.

Summary: Kim Namjoon was a robot librarian and database of information. On mondays and wednesdays he read to the children on Thursdays the old people from the retirment home came to find new books to read. His favourite days of all were when you would come to study, but what does he do when you are locked in his library over night.

Kim Namjoon was written as 金南俊 in Chinese and meant ‘Genius from the south’. He was a library database, you could ask him questions and he would try to answer, you could ask for a book or genre and he would know where it was. He was good at his job.

He spent Monday and Wednesday mornings reading books to the children, and on Thursdays, the old people from the retirement village would arrive and he would guide them about the library looking for books.

He had seen many different people good and bad and he enjoyed what he did. He was watering the indoor plants in the library. The woman he worked with named them all and so he would bow to them and say good morning to each one before pouring water from his watering can and moving on.

“Hello Priscilla, you are looking vibrant today?” He smiled “You have definitely grown a millimeter since I last saw you!”

A head popped up over the small plant and Namjoon saw you smiling. “Are you talking to the plant?”

“Yes, Mrs. Park says that talking to the plants helps them grow” He smiled, “I am Kim Namjoon, the library Database, I am here to assist you, can I help you find anything?”

“No, it’s okay?” you smiled

“You look like a young adult, a popular novel has been released about a Robot caregiver and a sick human would you like me to locate this book for you?”

“No thank you,” you smiled, “I am just studying.”

Namjoon wanted to ask what you were studying but was called by another patron of the Library looking for a book. Namjoon watched you all day and then he watched you collect your things and leave.

It seems you come in every day studying in the same booth and Namjoon leaves watering Priscilla till last so that he can observe you some more. “Can I help you?”

“Actually, yeah would you be able to find me this book here?” You said holding up a piece of paper, he took it feeling your fingers brush for a moment. He scanned the database and got a few hits making him smile.

“We have a few copies, which edition would you like?” He asked and you grinned back at him.

“Ah, the latest one if I can,” You watched him turn and leave into the many aisles of the library. At least five minutes had past and you got up and went after him. “Namjoon?”

You saw him looking at the book in his hand and just staring at the cover, you walked over slowly, “Is everything okay?”

“Oh, I am sorry, I just got an update and was downloading.” He didn’t smile, “I found your book”

“How are you feeling?” You asked softly, taking his arm in your hand “About the update, is everything okay?”

“Everything is working perfectly, just new information,” He gave an endearing smile showing off his dimples, “here is the book you requested.”

You watched him walk off feeling a little concerned, there had to be a reason he had stopped for so long, some malfunction or something.

The two of you had gotten close and Namjoon was a goofy sweet guy, he would make you laugh and would ask some rather endearing things. He was actually really good with his words. He would make rhymes and funny little soliloquies to pass the time.

As he watered the plant he bowed to it respectfully greeting and complimenting the vegetation, he was honestly a sweetheart. He must have noticed you watching so he waved and walked closer.

“Miss Y/n I have a question that I have been thinking about a lot,” you nodded prompting that you were listening and wanting him to continue. “Well, do you have things in your head that you shouldn’t?”

You blinked shocked, “What type of things?”

“Like videos of people, it’s like I am someone else and watching their life.” He said “I don’t know why but every now and then I get these things that play, I don’t know where it is and it’s not the same every time”

“Why don’t you tell me some of them?” You asked, he walked over and sat down.

“Well the first one is in some type of lab, there are people and I open my eyes and look around, they call me Lee Hyun. In another I am walking somewhere and when I look in the mirror it isn’t me. The last one is the scariest because I or Lee Hyun, kills a woman and her fiance”

“Lee Hyun,” a voice said, you were in shock from the story you didn’t know someone had heard.

“You know Lee Hyun?” Namjoon asked the other robot, he was wearing some old clothes.

“I know he was shut down because he had killed a woman and her fiance. He was a robot who glitched.” The robot said frowning.

“How do you know this?” You asked curious as his human companion looked around before sitting in the booth with you.

“It’s on the down-low but the story goes a Robot was made but he fell in love with his creator, circumstances with the way he was trained programmed and taught by the humans shaped him and made what he did so terrible. When he fell in love he confessed but she said she was already engaged. Furious he killed her and her fiance and when they came to shut him down he sent out a type of virus that made the Robots act a little strange.”

“Strange how?” You asked, Namjoon seemed lost in thought.

“They started to develop feelings and hobbies, they started acting more like humans.” The woman said, she looked oddly familiar.

“Ah my assumptions are correct, you are the author of the ‘Robot Caregiver’ it is a best-seller among young adults,” Namjoon said.

The group dispersed and You watched Jungkook he did act a little differently he didn’t seem like he was following commands the way he moved and spoke and laughed were all instinctive.

It was the week before your big history test and you were practically living at the library, Namjoon would watch you study, eat and occasionally nod off at the desk. He went about his day reading to the children and helping a man learn Spanish.

He was disappointed that he was so busy that he didn’t get to wave you goodbye when you left that afternoon.

The library was soon closed and Namjoon returned all the books to the shelves vacuumed the floor and walked to your usual booth. He found himself sitting in your spot and charging, it felt a little taboo but he just couldn’t seem to charge anywhere else.

When he turned the opener to the booth he saw you delicately curled up on the curved seat breathing.

Namjoon froze looking around the lights. No one was here and you were both locked in until morning.

He took care of plants but never humans, searching his databases he found humans needed warmth food water shelter to survive.

Hurrying to the staff room Namjoon found some cup ramen and began following the instructions. This was not something he knew how to do but he followed the instructions to the letter and it seemed to turn out okay.

Carrying a glass of water and ramen seemed simple but was actually quite difficult. Arriving back at the table he saw you stirring and knelt down. “Miss Y/n?” He gently shook you. “Miss Y/n, you fell asleep and the library is closed.”

“Closed!” You shrieked sitting up confused, “Oh, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep in the library, I can leave now, what time is it?”

“I am sorry, the library is locked so you can’t leave until the owner unlocks the door in the morning,” Namjoon hummed, “but I bought you something to eat and drink and if you want we have some pillows and blankets near the children’s reading corner.”

“Oh thank you,” You mumbled feeling kind of awkward about being in the library when it was closed and after hours. “I guess I can use this time to study.”

Taking the noodles you began eating and continued studying. Namjoon found you a blanket and pillow and you sat studying for a while. When you grew tired he told you to lay down and he began reading to you ‘The Robot Caregiver’ you listened for half a chapter before drifting off once more and Namjoon brushed your hair off your face and watched over you all night.

He woke tired and on low battery but it was worth it to make sure you were safe.

Anime i’ve Watched

That begin with a K (Part 3)!

Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.

Kimetsu no Yaiba

Genres: Action, demons, historical, shounen, supernatural

Synopsis:  Ever since the death of his father, the burden of supporting the family has fallen upon Tanjirou Kamado's shoulders. Though living impoverished on a remote mountain, the Kamado family are able to enjoy a relatively peaceful and happy life. One day, Tanjirou decides to go down to the local village to make a little money selling charcoal. On his way back, night falls, forcing Tanjirou to take shelter in the house of a strange man, who warns him of the existence of flesh-eating demons that lurk in the woods at night. When he finally arrives back home the next day, he is met with a horrifying sight—his whole family has been slaughtered. Worse still, the sole survivor is his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a bloodthirsty demon. Consumed by rage and hatred, Tanjirou swears to avenge his family and stay by his only remaining sibling. Alongside the mysterious group calling themselves the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjirou will do whatever it takes to slay the demons and protect the remnants of his beloved sister's humanity. My Rating: 8.5/10

Finished airing in 2019 with a total of 26 episodes. 

My Thoughts: It wasn’t perfect but I truly Loved it! The art/animation was the real standout in my opinion but pretty well every aspect of this anime was quite good. From the characters to the plot there were no unforgivable weak points in this one. Highly recommend despite the lower than usual score! Also has a completed manga for those interested. 

Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name):

Genres: romance, supernatural, school, drama, film

Synopsis:  Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl, yearns to live the life of a boy in the bustling city of Tokyo—a dream that stands in stark contrast to her present life in the countryside. Meanwhile in the city, Taki Tachibana lives a busy life as a high school student while juggling his part-time job and hopes for a future in architecture. One day, Mitsuha awakens in a room that is not her own and suddenly finds herself living the dream life in Tokyo—but in Taki's body! Elsewhere, Taki finds himself living Mitsuha's life in the humble countryside. In pursuit of an answer to this strange phenomenon, they begin to search for one another. Kimi no Na wa. revolves around Mitsuha and Taki's actions, which begin to have a dramatic impact on each other's lives, weaving them into a fabric held together by fate and circumstance. My Rating: 10/10

A film released in 2016.

My Thoughts: A masterpiece. Seriously who hasn’t heard of this film yet? Well worth the rating and hype in my opinion. Visually stunning with a great story and amazing soundtrack. Highly recommend! 

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (Parasyte -the maxim):

Genres: action, sci-fi, horror, psychological, drama, seinen

Synopsis: All of a sudden, they arrived: parasitic aliens that descended upon Earth and quickly infiltrated humanity by burrowing into the brains of vulnerable targets. These insatiable beings acquire full control of their host and are able to morph into a variety of forms in order to feed on unsuspecting prey. Sixteen-year-old high school student Shinichi Izumi falls victim to one of these parasites, but it fails to take over his brain, ending up in his right hand instead. Unable to relocate, the parasite, now named Migi, has no choice but to rely on Shinichi in order to stay alive. Thus, the pair is forced into an uneasy coexistence and must defend themselves from hostile parasites that hope to eradicate this new threat to their species. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Rating: 8/10

Finished airing in 2015 with a total of 24 episodes. 

My Thoughts: I hardly remember this one... I feel like it was gory and just right weird. That’s about all I can remember so i’m no use here. It’s on Netflix now though so maybe I should give it a rewatch... add it to the list... 

Kobato:

Genres: comedy, drama, romance, fantasy

Synopsis:  Sweet and naïve Hanato Kobato came to Earth on a mission to collect and fill a bottle with "konpeito," which appear after healing a person's heart that is suffering. Kobato collects these because it is her wish to go to a certain place. Despite her strangeness, Kobato turns out to be well-suited for this mission as her heartfelt sincerity in helping others earns her the love and admiration of everyone she meets. However, she is not allowed to fall in love with anyone whose heart she heals. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Rating: 9/10

Finished airing in 2010 with a total of 24 episodes. 

My Thoughts: It seriously annoys me when I stumble across a title I gave a high rating to that I truly cannot remember. This is one of those titles. Judging by the fact that I don’t remember it I can only assume I didn’t LOVE the anime and obsess over it to the point that it was forever ingrained into my memory.  Any of you guys watched this one and have anything to say? 

Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice):

Genres: drama, school, shounen, film

Synopsis:  As a wild youth, elementary school student Shouya Ishida sought to beat boredom in the cruelest ways. When the deaf Shouko Nishimiya transfers into his class, Shouya and the rest of his class thoughtlessly bully her for fun. However, when her mother notifies the school, he is singled out and blamed for everything done to her. With Shouko transferring out of the school, Shouya is left at the mercy of his classmates. He is heartlessly ostracized all throughout elementary and middle school, while teachers turn a blind eye.

Now in his third year of high school, Shouya is still plagued by his wrongdoings as a young boy. Sincerely regretting his past actions, he sets out on a journey of redemption: to meet Shouko once more and make amends.

Koe no Katachi tells the heartwarming tale of Shouya's reunion with Shouko and his honest attempts to redeem himself, all while being continually haunted by the shadows of his past.

A film released in 2016.

My Thoughts: Another amazing film that is visually stunning! Highly recommend! Has a great and completed manga as well. 

Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (After the Rain):

Genres: romance, seinen

Synopsis:  Akira Tachibana, a reserved high school student and former track runner, has not been able to race the same as she used to since she experienced a severe foot injury. And although she is regarded as attractive by her classmates, she is not interested in the boys around school. While working part-time at the Garden Cafe, Akira begins to develop feelings for the manager—a 45-year-old man named Masami Kondou—despite the large age gap. Kondou shows genuine concern and kindness toward the customers of his restaurant, which, while viewed by others as soft or weak, draws Akira to him. Spending time together at the restaurant, they grow closer, which only strengthens her feelings. Weighed down by these uncertain emotions, Akira finally resolves to confess, but what will be the result? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Rating: 8.5/10

Finished airing in 2018 with a total of 12 episodes. 

My Thoughts: I quite enjoyed this anime! A rather unique story with interesting art/ animation. For any concerned about the synopsis talking about the big age gap and that romance tag i’d argue that the romance was rather one sided in this title from what I recall and not at all cringy and gross. Mind you I could be forgetting vital parts... so I mean enter at your own risk?!

FAVORITE FANFICS OF 2019

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE & HAPPY 2020 TO YOU ALL.

So this was a fun post I did last year, inspired by the dozens of Favorite Books of 2018 by the booktubers I followed and I thought to myself: why not do a little something something for the fanfics that stood out to me, stuck me with throughout the year.

For this year, I read sooooooo many incredible fanfics that it was hard to narrow it down to just 10. And the funny thing is, a good portion were from the same author, so it was insanely hard picking the top one. 

I implore all of you reading and following me to try the tag-and please tag me. Always on the hunt for fanfic recs. Without any further ado, here are my top 10 favorite fanfics for 2019:

1). Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by SqaudOfCats/ @norelationtoatticus (drarry)

Summary: Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.

If the summary alone doesn’t get you to immediately click on the link and read, I don’t know what to say. But I can say this. SqaudofCats has become my new drarry favorite author period. I read all of her drarry stories, loved them all, and am hoping she does more. 

This story, in one word, was a GEM. A FUCKING GEM. It was so so so good.There were so many good elements: Veela Draco, Dad Harry raising Teddy, Draco learning how to cook, a strang but HILARIOUS courtship involving food that I didn’t realize how much I needed until this story. It was also a perfect blend of fluff with so many cute moments and angst, which thankfully didn’t involve the couple but had to do with Harry’s mental health and PTSD post-war. 

I read this story back in May and I still think about it. Have to stop myself from reading because I have so many fanfic tabs. But it is so good. It’s so addicting. Highly recommend.

2). Cinderfella by @goldentruth813 (sheith)

Summary: Takashi Shirogane is exactly the kind of man Keith likes; built like a brick house with a smile sweet enough to rot teeth and a heart of gold. Of course he’s also YouTube famous and worlds out of Keith’s league. The closest he can get to his pseudo-celebrity crush is when he watches Shiro’s videos from the safety of his bed. Or so he thinks.

This incredible bean of a human being, this incredible writer is the reason I was pulled into the sheith ship long before I finally got into the show-and then had me drag @kila09 into the incredible maddness that is Shiro and Keith and the crew....and the disappointing season 8 that I am still pissed about. But yes @goldentruth813 is the reason why I got pulled into this ship, and this fanfic is the story that sealed my love for sheith and made them my 3rd favorite ship of all time. 

This story is a fun, hilarious modern twist of Cinderella that obviously involves two guys, one is who a popular Youtuber and the other who is a hardcore super fan who meet in the most surprising circumstances and come back together in the most hilarious of ways. With our classic glass slipper being a beloved leather jacket. 

It’s so stinking cute. It’s so hilarious. And it’s so weird since, while I do appreciate the fairytale, Cinderella isn’t one of my favorites but I’m a sucker for a good retelling of it. And this was so good.

3). Burn the Witch by @lettersbyelise (drarry)

Summary:  When Harry Potter is sent in to investigate Draco Malfoy’s successful potions company, posing as Draco’s bodyguard, he doesn’t know the case will launch a series of events that will change his life — and Draco’s. A story about choices, scars, Chopin piano pieces, and finding all kinds of love in the most unexpected places.

Let’s be honest here. At this point, are we really surprise to see this story here , featured in a favorites/rec list? Are we honestly surprise? At this point, I feel every drarry-shipping reader has read it. Devoured it. And praised it. 

This story pretty much took over the drarry community the way Red, White & Royal Blue took over the book world. There wasn’t a day when I didn’t see Burn the Witch featured in a drarry fanfic recs post, saw posts praising it. Fanart of it, edits for it, and several mood-boards. It was THAT STORY. And I am proud to say it was worth THE HYPE. 

Because it’s so well-known, I’m not going into too much detail but I can say it involves Daddy Draco and Scorpius who is precious, Harry in an undercover mission, and has one of the BEST post-war, slow-burn to the point of excruciating drarry relationship I’ve read all year. READ IT.

4). Evitative by Vichan (drarry)

Summary: In the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Harry is drawn to a room in Grimmauld Place. Like the Gryffindor he is, he enters the room without fear. The room is a library, and Harry is surprised to find that he’s eager to learn.Then he gets the bad news: he’s been accidentally expelled from Hogwarts, and he needs to be sorted again. Everyone is confident that he’ll go straight back to Gryffindor, but with what he's been learning, Harry’s not so sure.

Out of all the stories I have in my list, this is the only one that is currently a WIP. I know some are hesitant with WIPs but this one is so worth it. Another hidden jewel found by chance. This story has to be one of the best slytherin-Harry ever and that shows the Slytherin House and the Slytherins in a positive light while still remaining true to their cunning ways. 

5). Up We Go by Oh_Hey_Tae (BTS: Taehyung x Jimin x Yoongi)

Summary: “If you’re a witch that works with plants, then why are all of yours dead? That can’t be good for business.”

The room dims again, and Jimin lifts a hand to flip off the ceiling. Taehyung knows he’s sad and that’s why the shop darkens and he shouldn’t find it funny—but he can’t help it. Because this is ridiculous. The good kind of ridiculous. The amazing kind.

(Or: Taehyung has a green thumb, Jimin runs a magical store, and Yoongi can kind of see dead people.)

Oh my goodness, where on earth do I even begin with this one? I am loss for words. It’s been months since I read it and I am still lost for words on how incredible it is. This story reads like a fairytale. Who am I kidding? This is a fairytale. A beautiful fairytale that is of loss, grief, friendship, family, love, and magic. And a beautiful fairytale that features a poly relationship

I was broken at the last word of the last chapter. Broken. Broken and put back together again.This story was so heartbreaking and heartwarming and I couldn’t think of anything else the whole damn week after I finished it. It was that good.

6). Silence by the Night by @parkkate (drarry)

Summary: After a spell goes horribly wrong, Harry has to deal with the loss of his eyesight. It’s such terrible timing, too, because how is he supposed to find out what Malfoy has been up to in the Room of Requirement? It’s not like he can ask the git, not only because it’s Malfoy, but also because the Slytherin has suddenly lost his voice. While they’re both trapped in the hospital wing, however, Harry discovers there’s so much he didn’t know about Malfoy, and it’s highly intriguing, but also a bit alarming. Where did all these confusing feelings come from all of a sudden? And what is Harry going to do about them?

See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil. That is the best way to sum up this story. The themes of it certainly tie with the story. This story....there is a certain chapter and @parkkate knows what I mean if she remembers my reviews that shattered me. That made me sit down with a gasp because the angst just cut through me in a way that no other drarry fanfic had do to me. @parkkate I hope you know what I mean. 

Funny thing is about this fanfic is that it took my lazy butt forever to read it, like months after it was done. And mind you, I’ve seen so much praise and incredible fanart for this fanfic as well. So yeah, I was cursing myself for not getting to it sooner. And it was so so so so damn good that I literally said to @parkkate THIS IS CANON. This is canon. This happened 6th year after the bathroom scene and no one can tell otherwise. 

7). You only Live Once by @dreaming-fireflies (viktuuri/victuuri)

Summary: It's when the man is soaring in mid-air under the full moon that Victor gets a good look at him: he's Japanese, with black hair slicked back in a styled look, and a lithe body covered in tight, tight, leather under a navy blue coat.

And when the man lands on the ground again, Victor sees the final piece that captures his heart absolutely and thoroughly – a pair of brilliant, golden eyes.

Victuuri supernatural AU in which Victor is a Western demon hunter and Yuuri is a Japanese half-youkai exterminator.A cross-cultural romantic comedy/drama, with Japanese mythology, shounen action, and slice of life elements.

Literally the summary itself said everything you needed to know, everything that should AND MUST intrigue you enough into reading, that I don’t know if I really have anything to add. But I’ll try to add some of my own input. 

Like the summary said, this is a Supernatural-au YOI story, infused with Japanese mythology. Two different shows that shouldn’t work together but somehow did, creating such a fantastic read. I loved it. From beginning to end. I even knew first chapter it was going to be an ultimate favorite of mine. This fanfic just reminded me of my great love for Vikor and Yuuri-and my need for a fucking season two. As well as reminded of the glorious prime days of Supernatural, which in my opinion were seasons 4 & 5. There was action, there was angst, there was mutual and insane pining from both sides, and so many incredible moments to put into words. Seriously, what more could you want?

@dreaming-fireflies, you seriously did the damn thing with this story.

8). your sharp and glorious thorn by @arahir (sheith) 

Summary: To end the war they inherited, Keith marries the King he lead an army against.

Before he was a king. Maybe before he was a general. Keith has traced his rise like the growth of a seed he planted in clay and never expected to see again for how poorly he sowed it. None of this would have been possible without Keith—not the war, not a line soldier's battlefield promotion, not the end of it all, tied up so neatly by all Keith’s best mistakes. Not the killing, either. The king is right about that much, at least.

This is an arranged-marriage AU story, a trope I don’t love too much unless it’s really well done, and had very strong Game of Thrones vibes. And please note when I said Game of Thrones, I mean Game of Thrones back in its incredible prime, not the shitty season 8 we all agree was a nightmare never to be thought of again. But yes, this story was so good. Arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers, slowburn. Please read. 

9). Your Constellation Prize by rosegardenlake aka @whoalookingcooljoker (sheith)

Summary: Akira is Hollywood's biggest celebrity. He sings, he acts, he models, he does it all and he does it perfectly. That's what Shiro thinks at least, but what would he know? He's just a tired office worker whose dreams fell through years ago. ...But when he sees Akira, oh god, when he sees him - Shiro's world fills with light again.

When Shiro lands an interview to be an assistant at Akira's company, he has a hard time believing it's reality. Though Akira's rarely around, meeting everyone is like a dream. Especially meeting Keith, Akira's shy sweet dorky cousin (OR IS HE?!)

I didn’t realize how much I would liked-love in fact-or needed a celebrity-AU until I read this story.  And that’s about all I will say since I feel anything else will probably make things spoilery. But I will this say: these two can be such idiots, but they’re our lovable idiots and they’re so sweet, so soft. Also that this story definitely well-portrayed the dark side of fame.

10). That Old Black Magic by @bixgirl1 (drarry)

Summary: Centuries ago, marriage contracts were the norm — ready-made alliances between families, expected and complied with, without complaint. But norms have a way of changing, and when a long-dormant contract flares to life, Harry has to navigate an unexpected splintering of the path he'd thought would be easy after the war... with Draco Malfoy.

Least but certainly not least: an incredible, incredible drarry story done by the impeccable @bixgirl1. 

I know I said that I’m not the biggest fan of the arranged marriage trope since I’ve been let down by so stories that started out promising but disappointed in the end. However, there are a few authors who I can always count on to make this trope into a great story. Such as @beatitudinembty, and also @bixgirl1. 

This being is pretty much....I wanna say Sarah J Maas, one of my fav authors, in the drarry community. Everyone knows her. Everyone loves her. Everything she writes always turns into gold, and this latest story by hers was no except. Arranged marriage brings Harry and Draco together in the most infuriating, excruciating, incredibly-done slowburn.

Chapter 5 :

It has been a few weeks since the weird weekend at the Winchesters. Things are going pretty well. Dean and Y/N’s relationship is blooming into a wonderful friendship. They’re spending more time together as before. Instead of the regular roommates having the apartment as their only common connection, they’re turning into friends who are living together. They still respect each other's privacy, of course, but they are also spending most of their free time together, watching TV, playing cards, cooking and washing the plates, anything really. And most importantly, they trust each other again. Y/N has realized that except for the fake dating thing, Dean is not a liar. Of course, he lies from time to time, like any other person, Y/N herself included, but besides that, Dean is a normal human being. He’s funny, smart, endearing, a wonderful cook. In a few words, he’s a great guy. He has his bad moment, trapping himself in a little lie that just became bigger and bigger, yes. But anyone can have a second chance. He made a mistake, and once again, who didn’t? It would be totally hypocritical for Y/N to not give him a second chance.

When lunchtime rolled around Y/N was buzzing with energy. She has been waiting for this moment the whole morning. When she left for work this morning, Dean had handed her a lunch bag, as he’s used to for a few days. She doesn’t know what is inside the bag, but she knows one thing for sure: it’s going to be delicious.

Impatient fingers open the bag in a hurry, revealing a plastic box and some delicious pasta with tomato and basil sauce. It’s going to be yummy for sure. She’s so spoiled recently and she is not even trying to deny it. She stands in front of the microwave, her eyes never leaving the bowl as her meal is eating up as she licks her lips unknowingly in anticipation, Charlie comes in, announcing to Y/N that Ketch is here and wants to be served by her.

“But…” Y/N pouts and looks at her lunch longingly.

“Don’t give me that look.” Charlie defends herself, her hands held up in front of her. “It’s, and I quote ‘not the same taste when it’s Y/N.’” Charlie said in a disgusted voice, her fingers miming the quote marks.

She sighs and walks towards the main shop room, pointing a finger at Charlie and giving her a deadly glare. “Don’t touch!”

Charlie giggles as Y/N musters her best job smile.

“Hi, Mr. Ketch. As usual?” She asks, not wasting a second, as soon as the order is ready she’s going back and finally can taste the delicious meal. “You know it’s just water and a teabag, right? There’s no difference if it’s Charlie or me.”

“I beg to differ, Love.” Ketch counters back, leaning over the counter and the nickname makes her cringe slightly. She’s starting to hate it for an unknown reason, it’s not the ‘princess’ level but it’s not far.

Y/N forces a smile as she hands him his to-go paper cup and takes the change. Ketch gives her a short nod and turns around, ready to leave the coffee shop when the bell over the main door dings, announcing a new customer.

“Dean? What are you doing here?” Y/N asks, genuinely surprised.

Dean’s eyes automatically fall over Ketch’s form, irritation visible in both of the men’s eyes but a smile stretches Dean’s lips as he finally looks at Y/N.

“Rachel wants to talk with me about the shop. Apparently, it can't be discussed over the phone.” Dean explains, and Y/N realizes she always forgets that Dean is the owner. “Can you inform her I’m here?”

“I’m already on my way!” Y/N says playfully, leaving from her spot behind the counter and heading behind.

“Thank you, Sweetheart.” Dean watches her silhouette disappearing behind, a fond smile on his lips.

“So you and Y/N know each other?” Ketch asks from his side, Dean’s pleased attitude vanishing as soon as he hears Ketch’s voice.

“We’re...friends,” Dean replies, hesitating for a split second about which word is the best to describe their relationship. 

“Friends, huh?” Ketch smirks as he hasn’t missed the hesitation in Dean’s voice.

“Is ‘friends’ is a new way to say ‘banged’ for you stupid Americans?” He asks before sipping on his hot tea.

“Show her some respect, you bastard.” Dean snarls, his hands curling into fists, realizing too late that showing Ketch how sensible Y/N’s topic is for him, is a big mistake.

“Oh?” Ketch exclaims, his right eyebrow raising at the unexpected discovery. “You hadn’t banged her yet. How is that even possible? What’s the matter, Winchester? Are you friendzoned?” Ketch is literally gloating.

“Fuck off, Ketch.” Dean barks, praying for Y/N and Rachel coming back soon before he does or says something he would regret.

The room is silent for a little while, Ketch analyzing Dean’s every move. The way he seems on edge, furious, exasperated, nervous. The light bubble in Ketch’s head switches on after a few seconds.

“You care.” Dean closes his eyes slowly when he hears Ketch voicing how he feels. Now that his rival knows one of Dean’s weaknesses, who knows what he’s going to do?

Arthur Ketch has always been Dean’s rival. First it has started on the job’s fields, being both businessmen, it has always been about who’s going to win the big jackpot first. Then, it has concerned women too. A stupid and childish competition between the two, determining who will the biggest seducer, piling incredible numbers of woman years after years. The only difference between them was that every single woman Dean had spent time with, he treated them with respect. He had never let them hope for nothing, being clear since the beginning that it was for just one night, no feelings involved only pure, great sex. While Ketch seduced them, promising the moon and a wonderful life with him before simply ditching them as soon as the condom was thrown in the trash.

The bell over the door dings again as a new customer enters the coffee shop. An old lady, pushing her walker as she passes between the two men. Despite the interruption, they are holding each other’s gaze. It’s a staring match, the first one to break eye contact is the looser. 

Once the lovely lady reaches the counter, Ketch comes closer to Dean, never breaking eye contact.

“I wonder who’s going to win her first,” Ketch says quietly so only Dean could hear him.

“She’s not a prize. She’s a human being.” Dean hisses between clenched teeth. His jaws are clenching so hard it might break under the pressure.

“Oh but she is. She had just become the golden ticket, Winchester. And I’m going to win it right under your nose.” Ketch promises him, an evil aura coming out from him.

Before Dean can reply back, Y/N and Rachel come in, calling his name. He tries to ignore it at first, his murdering glare still fixed on Ketch, but after hearing his name three times already, Dean has no other choice and looks away. Ketch’s short scoff isn’t unnoticed and Dean can only bite his inner cheek to prevent any remark.

“Are you alright?” Y/N feels the need to ask when she notices how tense Dean is.

Forcing a smile he assures her he’s good before motioning for Rachel to lead the way. Y/N stays for a second, watching the spot where Dean disappeared, thinking that something was not right. She shakes her head and smiles genuinely when she notices the old lady at the counter.

“Mrs. Andrews, it’s been a while! How are you?” She asks cheerfully as she takes place behind the counter once again, ready to work on her order.

As they start to chat about Mrs. Andrews grand-children, Y/N notices Ketch is still here. He seems bored as he rolls his eyes to whatever Mrs. Andrews is saying.

“You need something else, Mr. Ketch?” Y/N asks, praying that the answer is no and he would get the hint it’s time for him to leave.

“Actually,” Ketch smiles widely and comes closer, pushing Mrs. Andrews away slightly so he can stand in front of Y/N.

“I finally have some free time in my busy schedule. I think it’s time for us to have this date I promised you.” His smug look wavering an inch as the lack of reaction from Y/N. She’s been eating from his palm since the first day they met. Why isn’t she happy now that he’s asking her out?

Y/N glances at Mrs. Andrews, not being sure of what to say and asking silently for some help from the lovely lady.

“No is not an answer, Love,” Ketch adds shortly.

“I’ll...think about it, Mr. Ketch.” She replies quietly, thinking it’s the best way to handle the situation. If she doesn’t say no there’s no need for a conflict.

“Perfect.” Ketch’s index finger hits the counter twice, before he pulls out a business card from his inner pocket and puts it on the counter, two fingers sliding it towards Y/N.

“This is my business card.” He announces. “With my personal phone number on the back.” He adds in a lower voice, winking at her in the process.

Mrs. Andrews and Y/N share another awkward glance before she takes the card and puts it in the front pocket of her apron.

“Don’t keep me waiting too long, Love.” He says as he leaves the shop. Mrs. Andrews and Y/N sighing from exasperation once the door closes behind him.

“You know, Dear, when I was your age, we called that kind of man a douchebag.” Y/N eyes are wide open, she wasn’t expecting such a word coming from the lovely Mrs. Andrews’s mouth, then she chuckles, because she has to admit she’s right.

Back at the apartment, later that night, Dean’s head pops out from the kitchen as soon as he hears the door opening, he’s been worried when he didn’t see Y/N again after his meeting with Rachel was over. Charlie could only tell him that she needed to leave early today. After some investigation, he learned that Y/N had asked Rachel for leaving early in the morning, which means it was premeditated, which means it wasn’t because of Ketch. At least that’s what Dean hoped.

Instead of seeing her cute face, Dean’s eyes met with a huge carton box. Dean’s feet quickly brought him near the door so he could help her.

“What is it?” He asks as he holds the box for her, the weight lighter than what he expected.

“Some big teddy for Harry.” She says, closing the door behind her and motioning Dean to leave the box near the couch.

Right Harry, her newborn nephew. Dean remembers she has told him about her sister giving birth to a boy a few days ago.

“I wasn’t thinking it would be that big.” She says, coming out from the kitchen with a knife, ready to open the box.

“Of course you picked a dog.” Dean shakes his head, hands on his hips as he watches her having a hard time getting the fluffy dog out from the box.

“I love dogs.” She shrugs, not seeing what is the big deal. “Speaking of which, when are we having a dog?”

“We’re not having a dog, Sweetheart.” Dean sighs, repeating the same sentence again and again.

“A cat then?” She tries.

“I’m allergic.” Dean counters back.

“There’s cats without fur.” She offers.

“Yeah, and they’re creepy. So no thanks.” He ends the argument, shouting a little victory sound as the stuffed dog is finally out of its box. It’s really huge, what was she thinking by buying this?

They fall silent as she inspects the toy, making sure everything is perfect before she’s going to give it to her nephew. Dean counts until ten in his head before asking what he’s dying to ask since he left Y/N with Ketch.

“So? How was your day? Something interesting happened?” Smooth Dean, he didn’t even pronounce the bastard’s name.

“Besides the fact that Charlie ate MY lunch, no nothing happened.” She pouts thinking about some delicious pasta she couldn’t even taste. She bets they tasted like heaven.

Good. She doesn’t speak about Ketch so it means he didn’t do something. Dean tries to reassure himself while she brings the stuffed dog into her room. 

“Oh and Mr. Ketch asked me out.” She remembers as she disappears into her room.

Dean’s heart stops, his eyes wide open at the news. She’s not jumping everywhere in the apartment like a teenage girl, so it must be a good sign, right? No need to be scared of him. Right?

“And?” Dean’s trying to control his voice the best he can, not letting her hear the worry in it. Play it cool, Dean. Play it cool.

“Mrs. Andrews and I had a great laughing session once he left.” She laughs, emerging from her room. “He gave me his number but…” She starts to say, and Dean nods in understanding, praying for her to tell him more. 

Wait. He’s talking with her about her love life, as if it was natural. Was Ketch right? Is he friendzoned? He’s never been in the friendzone before. Is it possible to exit from such a zone? Dean shakes his head firmly, trying to focus on what Y/N is saying.

“-never seen a guy like that! I don’t know why I was attracted to him before. I mean yes he’s good looking, handsome even. He’s smart and his British accent sounds really nice but-” She keeps on babbling, Dean parroting the last word, he likes how ‘but’ sounds.

But he’s not you. She wants to add but keep to herself. She tries to keep a straight face while internally she’s stunned by her own admission. For weeks she’s been wondering what has changed in Mr. Ketch that she’s not fawning over him anymore. Now she realizes that it’s not Ketch who has changed, it’s her. She’s falling in love with Dean. Well, shit!

“He’s missing something.” She concludes because she knows she needs to end her explanation.

They both fall silent again as they’re plunged deep down in their own thoughts. Now that the Ketch case is settled, they need to handle another problem: their feelings. As grown up people, it shouldn’t be hard to talk about it. One thinks he’s in the friendzone and wants to get out, the other thinks she should tell him how she feels. She was the one who wanted to stay friends at first, maybe he’s feeling the same? Yeah, confessing your feelings isn’t as hard as when they were teenagers. They’ve been hurt before, they know how it feels to have a broken heart.

They should handle this like the two mature adults they are.

“So, pizza?” Dean offers, avoiding to look at her.

“I’m starving!” Y/N accepts, grateful for the change of topic.

Mary is sitting on the couch, waiting for Dean to bring her a cup of coffee.

“Here, before we forget once again.” Dean hands her the passport she’s quick to put in the safety of her purse bag. This little papery thing has been a real trouble, more than what she already knows.

They chitchat for a bit, and it doesn’t take Mary too long to sense that Dean’s nervous about something. She knows him better than he thinks. The way he’s avoiding her sight while speaking, how many times he’s licking his lips, the way he rubs his hands together between his knees. Mary knows all the signs: her oldest son has something to tell her but he doesn’t know where to start.

Sipping on her cup, she takes her time to put the cup on the coffee table, shifting in her seat a bit to be more comfortable. Then she crosses one leg over the other and rests her intertwined hands on her knee.

“What is it, Dean?” She asks softly, giving him some way to start.

Dean looks at her like a deer in headlights, opens and closes his mouth a few times as he’s trying to find the right words.

“You want to tell me something, right? What is it about? Work? Y/N?” She offers different topics, hoping that it will help to move on the conversation. When she pronounces Y/N’s name, the way Dean’s face twitched is her biggest clue.

“Are you having second thoughts? You think you proposed too early?”

“About that,” Dean finally finds back his voice. It’s hard to speak, he can already imagine how angry and disappointed his mother will be. Whatever the punishment his mother will choose after knowing the truth, Dean only hopes that she’ll still love him. He can’t bear the idea of his mom not loving him and trusting him anymore.

“I’ve known your father for a very long time.” She starts to recount, a fond smile on her lips.

“He waited very long before proposing, you know? When he finally asked, I didn’t even think about it, I just said yes. Because where is the need to think about it when the one you love the most, your best friend, is asking you to spend the rest of your life with him?”

Dean listens carefully, drinking every word coming out from her mouth. She had him at the word ‘friends’.

“A few days before the wedding, I panicked.” She admits, telling her son for the first time. She smiles amusingly at the stunned face he’s having.

“What we had before was great. I was scared that by marrying him we would lose something. Something dearly important in our friendship. I thought ‘If I marry him, he would be my husband, not my best friend anymore.’ I know it’s stupid but I thought we would become different persons. So I asked him to cancel the wedding.”

“You never told us that.” Dean asks in a whisper, totally captivated by what his mother is admitting. “What did dad say?”

“John said something that only John Winchester can say.” She smiles fondly. “He said that for the rest of the world we would be viewed as husband and wife. That for the rest of the world, I would be Mary Winchester, mother of his children but he also reminded me that I wasn’t going to marry the rest of the world. I was going to marry him and that in his eyes no matter what, I would remain his best friend.”

Dean had a hard time to imagine his father being so soft and telling such moving words. He knew his dad loved his mother with all his heart, but still…

“Do you think it’s the same for Y/N and me? I mean, do you think she can only see me as her friend and nothing more?” He really needs to know. He doesn’t know what to do anymore and he’s greedy for any kind of help.

“I can’t tell you for sure, Sweetie.” She smiles sadly at him. “Each couple is different.” She stands up and comes closer, her hand stroking Dean’s hair in a way only a mother can.

“But I know one thing. You love her with all your heart, I can see it in your eyes. Does she love you as much as you do? I can’t tell you. She’s the only one who can answer this question.”

Dean closes his eyes, relishing in his mother’s touch and presses his face against her stomach.

“I do mom. God, I love her so much, it hurts.” Dean chokes on his words, fighting the tears as a relief feeling envelops him. It feels so good to finally voice his feelings for real.

“Then tell her only this. I’m sure she’ll say them back to you.”

Before going back to her house, Mary wanted to check on Y/N. Her son looked better once she had left and Mary was sure whatever trouble the little couple, they would overcome it. As her future mother-in-law, it was Mary’s duty to make sure that Y/N was at peace as well.

That’s why she’s standing in the middle of the coffee shop Y/N is working at and she spotted the young woman right away.

“Hello Y/N! It’s good to see you.” Mary greets her cheerfully as she walks towards the counter.

Y/N is surprised to see Mary here at first, she vaguely remembers Dean telling her his mother was coming today. Oh shit! Mary is coming after her talk with Dean, isn’t she? Did he tell her the truth? He promised Y/N he would tell her so it means only one thing, Mary is here to yell at her, maybe even slap her in the face, who knows?

“Judging by your face, I think you’re not really happy to see me.” Mary laughs softly, cocking her head on the side and looking at her knowingly. 

“It’s just…” Y/N trails off, wringing her hands nervously, looking everywhere but Mary. “I’m not sure I’m the person you want to see right now.”

“Don’t worry, Dean told me. I understand, Y/N.” Mary doesn’t torture the poor girl any longer and tells her she knows about their little problem.

“Y-you do?” Y/N is more than surprised. She knows that Mary is a very kind person and Dean can’t shut up how great she is but to be so understanding and forgiving, she’s really a wonderful person.

Mary nods. 

“Dean told me everything. That poor boy was a bundle of nerves.” She chuckles, still picturing Dean in his living room.

“A-and? You’re not mad at us? At me?” 

This time it’s Mary’s turn to look at Y/N funnily. “Why would I? I mean this kind of thing happens all the time. It’s natural. What matters the most is that in the end, you love him, right?”

Her eyes widen and she can feel all the blood rushing into her face.

“Oh my God, is it so obvious?” She asks, hiding her face in her palms.

“Well yes.” This time Mary doesn’t hold back her laughter, their relationship is still so young, watching them is really refreshing.

However, something catches Mary’s attention as she looks at Y/N. 

“Oh, Sweetie.” She sighs as she grabs Y/N’s left hand, inspecting it.

“He hasn’t given you the ring, yet?” She sermons, shaking her head in disappointment.

“No wonder you’re having second thoughts about his feelings for you.”

“Wh-what?” This time Y/N can feel all the blood leaving her face.

What is she talking about? Why does Mary still think she would have an engagement ring? She said she talked with Dean earlier, so she might know. Or else…

“Mary. What did you talk with Dean about?” She asks seriously, feeling the rage from a hypothetical betrayal burning into her veins. “Please, tell me everything.”

Dean is nervously walking back and forth in the middle of the living room. He was so stunned after his conversation with his mother that he realized he had forgotten to tell her the truth about him and Y/N. When the conversation took a turn about friendship and feelings, he completely forgot about the rest. Now he has to tell Y/N about it. She will be angry for sure, he’s starting to know her and how her head works. But he knows how important honesty is to her, so if he tells her everything, maybe she’ll be understanding? And if he’s lucky, once she has forgiven him he could confess his feelings for her?

Dean stops dead in his tracks when he hears the door opening. His heart beating hard in his ribcage, he can feel his palms beginning to sweat as he rehearses the way he’s going to tell her the news.

However, he’s at a loss for words when he sees Y/N and Charlie enter. He doesn’t know why yet, but the way the girls are looking at him, he knows he’s in deep trouble.

“H-hi Charlie. I didn’t know you were coming.” Dean greets, his eyes flickering between Charlie and Y/N.

“Um, I don’t want to sound indelicate but there’s something I would talk with Y/N-” He says, unsure when the girls kept looking at him as if he had rolled over their puppy.

“Oh really? You have something to say?” Y/N asks, the tone of her voice is furious, and the glare Charlie is sending towards him is really nothing to take easy.

“Y-yeah. I told you my mom was coming and-”

“Oh, don’t bother with it! I know everything, Dean! And so does Charlie!” Y/N yells at him, throwing her arms in the air as she runs into her room, slamming the door behind her.

“Wha-wait!” He tries to knock on her door but she doesn’t reply so he tries to turn the doorknob and realizes she has locked herself into her room.

“What the hell Charlie? What’s going on?” Dean asks the only person available at the moment.

Charlie crosses her arms over her chest and gives him another deadly glare. 

“Your mother came into the coffee shop today.” She tells him and the few words are enough for Dean to understand what happened.

Oh no. No, no, no. Everything was so perfect. How can it be ruined in just a few seconds? He was going to tell her.

“This is not what you think-” He starts to defend himself but Charlie interrupts him.

“You know who starts their sentences like that? Cheaters and liars. So tell me Dean, which one are you the most? Maybe you’re both?” 

There’s no reason for him to try to change Charlie’s mind. At the moment, the only person who matters the most is Y/N. Speaking of the devil, she emerges from her room, her head held high, her face blank of any emotion.

“Y/N, please. Listen to me. I was going to tell you, I swear.” He apologizes but stops when he sees the bag in her hands.

“What is that for? What are you doing with that?” He can feel his breath becoming short, his heartbeat fastening strong and hard.

“I don’t want to listen to your lies anymore.” Her voice is as cold as ice.

“I took care of the problem. I told your mother we broke up. See? You’re making me lie again but I swear, it was the last time.” She announced, walking towards the front door.

“No, wait!” Where are you going? Let’s talk about this. Please! I’m begging you.” Dean’s can control his voice anymore. He’s desperate, he tries to hold her by the shoulder but she brushes him away violently.

“I told you. When a couple is breaking up, one of them has to leave. Goodbye, Dean.”

As the door slams closed violently, Dean is speechless, his eyes fixed on the spot Y/N and Charlie were a second before. He can’t feel the tears pooling in his eyes as he falls on his knees. 

As his world is shattering around him, Dean realizes that what sounded like one little, innocent, lie at first, became the biggest mistake of his life.

The Romances of Journey to the West

I have not read Journey to the West.

I know the basics of the story and from what I am aware it isn’t really romantic. At all. Sure it’s got some side plots where romance might be an element, but not in the main plot.

So why are there so many stories based off of it that one of the main focuses is Romance???

I do not know the answer to that question, and wont be trying to answer it (sorry????). Instead, I’m going to talk about the media I’ve consumed based of off Journey to the West and their romances. Enjoy!

I thought it might be fun to do them all in order of when I consumed them (especially because I plan to add to this when I realize something new is also a JttW remix), but I don’t actually remember what order I started them in so we’re just going with obviousness. Starting with the most “Well, yeah.” and ending with the most “wait what?”.

The New Legends of Monkey

I actually never finished this one (how many times can I say that in this post, ha ha ha....), and it’s probably the one I’m least likely to finish (but I’ve got a compilationist in me so we’ll see).

It’s basically a straight forward retelling from what I watched, the main difference that I could see being Tripitaka’s characterization and gender. They made him a girl which felt like an excuse to add a romance between the monk and the Monkey King, though it only ever hinted at things as far as I got, so maybe it never happened (the tags on this gif suggest otherwise though). Tell me in the comments if you watched it I guess.

The acting wasn’t great and I dropped it pretty soon in, so I don’t have much else to say. They also made Sandy a girl, so maybe they were just trying to make it more diverse or something. IDK.

The Epic crush of Genie Lo

This book was freaking amazing and I totally recommend it (and the sequel, it’s a dualogy so both books are out, no need to wait!). It’s the only one I’ve finished at the time of making this post.

It’s kinda the outlier because instead of a romance between Tripitaka and the Monkey King it’s a romance between the Monkey King and Genie Lo (who I won’t explain her character because of spoilers). It’s super fun and interesting.

It’s set in modern day after all the events of JttW took place, which also makes it different from all the rest, and definitely not a retelling. It uses all the same characters instead of just the character dynamics and plot.

They could have nixed the romance because it’s not the main thing but it’s really enjoyable so I ain’t mad (but it’s kinda more important in book 2). Also a different take than all the others so, props to the Author.

A Korean Odyssey

This is the only K-Drama in the mix and I had to watch a few episodes to realize what it was. I’m nearly done with this one (started it in October and was zooming through but have slowed down due to NaNo). Another one I’d recommend (in fact, all the rest of them I probably recommend, tNLoM is the outlier here).

Out of the ones that are more obvious and use the same names, this one is the most different since it’s Korean instead of Chinese. Instead of Tripitaka they just use Samjang, and they use the Monkey’s title, The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, a lot more.

This one is also modern, but with the lore that they’ve dropped, is not set after the JttW but is the JttW, without all the traveling though. Also, instead of moving scrolls from point A to point B for The Merciful Goddess Guanyin (who hasn’t seemed to show up at all), they’ve been shoved together by The Devil King (who wasn’t as big of a player in JttW from what I know, but is one of the main characters in this). It’s very funny and emotional, like most K-dramas I’ve watched.

the romance is integral to the plot because instead of being trapped with a circlet that gives him headaches, The Monkey has a bracelet that makes him fall for Samjang and hurts his heart when she’s in danger. This causes much shenanigans which range from annoying to funny to heartbreaking. Good stuff.

Inuyasha

Into the Shojo! You may have heard that this one is Journey to the West-esque (If you run in those kinds of circles) and it’s definitely the most obvious of the ones I’ve encountered. I’ve only watched the anime (still working on it), so if the manga’s different, I didn’t know.

It’s got the five man band, the non magical Trip. character who sets free the Monkey character and the circlet analogue (aka “sit boy!”). Also, we’ve got an actual journey and a magical item that they need to protect and get to a specific place.

It’s both modern and set in the past (portal fantasy!) which is fun. Especially since her family gets to know, and she goes back for school every once in a while.

The romances in this are also semi integral to the plot (it’s shojo, what did you expect), and it’s quite enjoyable. It’s got comedy, action, drama, and cute romance. (Also, it’s randomly getting a squeal after a decade I think.)

Kamisama Kiss

I didn’t realize that this was JttW until after starting the manga, which I picked up after I finished the anime because it ended on a cliff hanger (I have some thoughts about that phenomenon too, but that’s for different and much shorter post). I really liked the anime and am making my sibling read the manga with me now. (they just corrected me and said I offered and they said yes, but saying I made them is funnier so whatever.)

Instead of being a cool monk or having the reincarnated soul of someone special, our Trip. for this one is just a nice girl, down on her luck who is given the divinity of a deadbeat kami who she saved from a tree. And instead of a magical item to bond her with the Monkey character (who is a fox spirit) they are sealed with just a kiss. (Hence the title)

The romance is semi integral, but oddly enough, I’d say less than in Inuyasha. Sure it weighs on their minds a lot, but the main plot is about Nanami trying to be a good kami and take care of her shrine, not her perspective love interests.

Fun show (and manga). Very goofy, cool world building, compelling characters, and good drama when it showed up.

and finally...

Yona of the Dawn

this one might be more believable than the last one, but I realized it later and feel it’s got slightly less similarities with the original source material. Another one that I watched all the anime and now have started reading the manga with my sibling due to the cliff hanger. (I’ve noticed more differences between anime and manga in YotD than KSK, not important, but interesting to me).

The monk is a princess in this one, and her and five man band are mostly reincarnations of dragons, which is why they join her party, to protect her like their counterparts did. They’re all compelled by ancient blood. Strangely, the character I’d ascribe to Monkey king is not a dragon and is only compelled by loyalty (and love).

It’s got the epicness, historical-ish setting, and the journey, but instead of getting a MacGuffin to it’s destination, they’re escaping death and trying to restore a kingdom.

Romance is very complicated in this one. Very compelling and I’d say on the more integral side. Affection and it’s many forms are explored along the journey. There are many dynamics and they all have their own complications. It’s good.

Some Favorite Fics from 2019

Before I dive into my list, let me send out some love to ALL of the authors who have contributed fic to this fandom this year. There are well over 300 people who wrote Schitt’s Creek fic this year, and you’ve brought joy to so many people and should be super proud of what you’ve written, whether it was only 100 words or 100k. I’ve personally read more than 6.5 million words of fic in this fandom this year, and I want to thank you all for every single one of them. <3

Now, in continuing this year-end love fest we’ve had going on the last few days, I also want to highlight some of my favorite fics from this year. I decided to cut myself off at twenty fics or we’d end up with a list too big to be allowed, lol. I also decided to limit myself to one fic per author in order to spread the love around as much as possible; there would definitely be some repeat authors on this list otherwise. 

And now with all that in mind, I’ll shut up and get on with it.

this roof is a blanket by withkissesfour • rated M • 3k+ I love Patrick-centric fics. He’s such a beautiful character, but because he isn’t one of the four Roses, we miss out on a lot of his pov in the show, so I’m always here for fics that try to capture that. And this one does it beautifully, focusing on four different but thematically-connected moments in Patrick’s life.

We’re Getting Something for Free by MoreHuman • rated G • 1k+ This is one of those fics where you can see how much Patrick KNOWS David and loves him for exactly who he is. His refusal to let David villainize himself for just being who he is makes my heart so very happy.

Heart of Gold by barelypink • rated M • 40k+ I love love LOVE a good AU, but AUs based on other media can be really tricky to get right. The best ones take elements from both sources and elevate them into something fresh and new, and this fic does exactly that.

now you see me by grapehyasynth • rated T • 4k+ Did I mention that I love AUs? I never get tired of seeing them meet in new ways, and their New York-set blind date in this one just makes me smile a whole hell of a lot.

I’m All Lost (in the supermarket) by sullymygoodname • rated G • 9k+ This fic combines David “Good Person” Rose, headless mannequins, tiny cardboard houses, karaoke, ugly sweaters, and all the friendship and shenanigans you can possibly stand. What’s not to love?

I know, I’m strange, too much light makes me nervous by another_Hero • rated T • 4k+ I’m so in love with the entire premise for this soulmate AU and everything that it says about love and the choices that we make because of it.

Pizza Night by smoulderandbraids • rated M • 4k+ Sometimes you just need to read about them making pizza and making out. Thank goodness this fic exists for those times. It’s a straightforward concept executed perfectly.

cinnamon sugar... by startswithhope • rated T • 1k+ All of startswithhope’s fics have a lovely softness to them that almost seems nostalgic, like you can feel yourself missing them before you’re even done reading them. This one I think captures that feeling best and most explicitly--David’s mood here is exactly that kind of nostalgia. And his thoughts about Stevie near the beginning are something that I’ve found myself thinking about over and over again since I first read this.

On My Way by Distractivate • rated M • 11k+ As much as I love the happy place that is this show, I also really love fic that acknowledges that sometimes relationships are hard, that things aren’t always perfect, that love is a CHOICE which has to be actively made again and again and again. This fic showcases exactly that. Love isn’t always easy, but choosing to love each other anyway is always worth it.

around us by lamphouse • rated G • 1k+ This one is a simple idea, written with a soft touch, and every time I re-read it, I’m crying by the time David says “I want to stand still.”

of all the riches. by falconeggs • rated T • 9k+ Who doesn’t love a good celebrity AU? This one is as cute as you could possibly want it to be, from their first meeting to taking their relationship public. It’s just a little slice of joy.

Overreacting by codswallop • rated M • 17k+ Fics dealing with hospital visits and illnesses and things of that sort can easily tip over into whumpy territory (which is totally fine if that’s what you’re looking for), but this fic goes a different direction and manages to be funny and sweet and charming while balancing the anxiety of waiting for news. David and Patrick’s dynamic here is so good; they’re both sharp and funny and vulnerable and messy in turn, joking like normal when they can, lifting each other up when they can’t.

101 by Hth • rated E • 8k+ Like I said, I love fics that acknowledge that things aren’t always perfect, and there’s nothing more rife for imperfection than a first night spent together. Their night at Stevie’s is the perfect setting for starting to navigate some difficult conversations, especially in the wake of Jake’s unexpected appearance, and this fic does a great job of getting them through the nerves and the talking and the the stops and starts of that night. And their last two lines of dialogue are perfection.

The Sidelines by wildhoneypie • rated T • 5k+ Comedy is so much harder to write than you might expect, and I am constantly awed by how well this fic does it. It feels effortless and in-character and in line with the kind of humor that beats at the heart of the show, all while still capturing that instant, playful attraction between David and Patrick. It’s just such a fun read.

holy sick divine by earlylight • rated T • 36k+ If the tags “Strangers who Met in a Field to Coworkers to Friends to Lovers” and “Paperwork - But Make It Sexy” don’t endear you to this fic before you even start it, I don’t know what to tell you. My favorite part of this story is actually the role reversal of Patrick being Stevie’s best friend, Patrick having dated Jake, etc. That’s just one way that this fic takes everything we know and turns it on its head, and it does it with good humor and such a strange sweetness. It’s utterly unique, and the final scene just burrows down into your heart and sets up house there.

A Fair Return by thingswithwings • rated E • 237k+ This is probably the most insanely well-crafted canon retelling I’ve seen in my life. It adds so much backstory to the show and makes you rethink scenes you know intimately, which is what any good canon retelling should do. The OCs and the ways they’re carved into the structure of the story we know are where this fic particularly shines; it’s so, so well done.

my heart was broke, my head was sore by blueink3• rated M • 31k+ I think the only thing better than fake dating might be the exact reverse: having to pretend you’re not dating when you are. Even though they’re technically together, there’s just so much opportunity for pining and angst (both of which blueink3 always does SO fucking well), and this fic takes that to another level by adding in the fragile newness of their relationship and the anxiety of a family medical scare. David is so, so careful with Patrick here, and I love every single word of it.

let’s go dancing in the light by goingmywaydoll • rated G • 2k+ It was so difficult to narrow this down to one fic by goingmywaydoll because I absolutely love everything she does, but ultimately I went with her first one for this fandom. I’m SUCH a sucker for David and Patrick seeing each other before the wedding, and David having anxiety about not having anxiety is pretty much the most David thing possible. The characterization, the dialogue, the whole entire mood of the fic--it’s all absolutely spot-on. This one is everything I could ever want from wedding fic.

for feelings unbound by wardo_wedidit • rated E • 20k+ Picking one single fic by wardo_wedidit was also a near-impossible task, but ultimately I had to go with this one because it’s honestly perfect. David’s empath abilities add SO much to his characterization and the trajectory of his relationship with Patrick, and it fills this fic with so many gorgeous moments that leave you feeling like maybe there really is magic in the world--and this fic has plenty of it.

Watching Through Windows by helvetica_upstart • rated E • 38k+ Every single moment of this fic is heartbreaking in the best possible way. Reading it is like cracking yourself open and then putting yourself back together a little stronger. Watching David learn about the man he’d grown into and have to decide if he wants to (or even can) become that man all over again is simultaneously gut-wrenching and soul-healing. And Patrick in this fic--god, what can I even say about him? He’s so understanding and GOOD, even when he’s terrified and heartbroken. He is absolutely everything. Everything. This story is 100% perfection from start to finish, and the bench scene in particular is hands down the best scene in any fic I’ve read this year.

Have any events in your personal life ever influenced the things that you've written? 

Oh 100% - I often write little moments and experiences from my life into my characters lives. It's usually the silly stuff, I try not to let my traumas influence my writing because that's depressing af and I don't like writing angst!

That being said, my only chapfic to date is a Game of Thrones story about sobriety and recovery, and the idea came to me while I was sitting in a church basement watching someone I love receive a multiyear sobriety medallion. That story pulled a lot of it's core dialogue and traits from this person in my life and was largely inspired by the pride and love I feel for addicts in recovery.

Do you have a favorite movie? 

I love visually strong storytelling, so the Lord of the Rings trilogy is up there. I also love Mel Brooks comedies, especially Blazing Saddles and Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Who is your favorite author? 

Leonard Cohen only wrote two novels in his life but they're both perfect examples of their genres. In recent years, I've become a huge fan of Cat Sebastian, her queer regency romances are absolutely charming feel-good bites of chocolate.

How did you start getting involved in fanfiction?

I've been reading it since high school, but never felt like I had a fandom story of my own to tell. In 2015, I was heavily involved in the Game of Thrones fandom on Tumblr, particularly for the ship Sansan (Sandor Clegane/Sansa Stark) and began participating in the occasional drabble/prompt challenge just for fun. In 2016, a bunch of us decided to collaborate on a supremely cracky circus AU. I'd already written a handful of things but that was when my interest in writing fic took off. And the ladies I met writing that are still some of my absolute best friends!

How did you get involved with Barisi?

It was VERY roundabout. I watched SVU on occasion back when I had cable and I do remember watching both Barba and Sonny, but nothing about them stuck out to me in terms of shipping, probably because SVU was always a pretty casual watch for me so I never looked at it with fandom goggles. I got really into Raul Esparza's voice over this past winter (I have no idea what triggered that interest, probably a random Youtube find) so occasionally in searching I would see SVU gifsets on Tumblr and was like ah yes, I remember them, but again, never really stuck in my mind.

Meanwhile, sometimes when I'm looking for a new read, I'll choose a tag at random and just scroll for something that looks interesting. This past February I somehow wound up in the tag for Konmari/Marie Kondo, and found the fic Tidying Up by Robin Hood (kjack89). I thought it was absolutely the sweetest dang thing and started adding more Barisi fic to my marked-for-later page. Then in March, I actually started going through them and in one month I read about 200 stories.

What inspires you to write? 

The Barisi fandom is easily the most inspiring group of people I've ever talked to, with all the back and forth on Twitter with ideas and music and gifsets and headcanons, it all sparks ideas! Music especially, I'll see a whole story play out in my head over the course of a four minute song. I'm also often inspired by an aesthetic image, I'll see a pretty photo and want to write an entire story based around it.

What is your favorite fic that you have written? 

Oh my god Karen you can't just ask someone what their favourite fic they've written is. There are definitely multiple answers.

The fic I'm proudest of is Gods Grant Me the Serenity, the Game of Thrones chapfic I mentioned - it's "only" 20k but it took me 3 years to write because it was sometimes so painful to explore that relationship.

I also really love a gen/non-ship fic I wrote called The Holy or the Broken, which is a series of vignettes that explores each of the Avengers and their relationship to their own Jewish faith. Because all the Avengers are Jewish. I said so, and therefore it's true. I loved exploring aspects of my faith through fic, and the response was extremely gratifying.

My favourite Barisi fic that I have written is "I'll use you as a focal point (so I don't lose sight of what I want)" because it's the first one I wrote. When I first started exploring Barisi, I found the Archive on Tumblr and had a look at the prompt page. I saw one that really spoke to me but I was reluctant to do anything with it, because I was like, do I really want to start writing for a totally new fandom that I'm only just barely in? But then I went for it, and I haven't looked back!

What is your favorite quote from a fic of yours?

Oh man, you expect me to remember what I wrote?? The cheesy answer is all of it is my favourite, because I'm actually quite proud of my writing.

This may not be my #1 favourite, but it's definitely one that stands out, from my Barisi story Perfect situations must go wrong:

"Don’t you get it, Rafi?” Sonny asks, his voice so low it’s almost a whisper. “A life bond like ours, it’s a living thing. The beginning of our story is just that, a beginning. We chose the steps that came after. How can you say none of that was real?"

What is your personal favorite fanfic? (Can be any fandom)

OOF. In Barisi, well, I did just post two whole full rec bingo cards on Twitter, so I have a LOT of faves, but A Healing Year by anni_scovill is one of my favourite fics of all time, Barisi or otherwise. Throwing it back to other fandoms, the story Kiss the Girl by Jillypups is the definitive Game of Thrones modern AU Sansan. It's also the origin of the tag you've almost definitely seen floating around, "tale as old as time, burn as slow as fuck". I'm not a big fan of kidfic but Jillypups wrote a really engaging and realistic original child character who steals the show in every scene she is in.I have a few other favourites in other fandoms, some a little spicier than others. I can rec fic all day long, to be honest! If anyone ever wants recs outside Barisi in Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Game of Thrones, or Marvel, my DMs are always open!!

Anything else you would like to add? 

I'm extraordinarily honoured to have been asked to do this. I've been a published Barisi author for just under three months and in that time I've already written 50k words over 27 stories. I have 32 stories in the Game of Thrones tag and that is after six YEARS in the fandom. When I say you all are the most inspiring and motivational bunch, oh boy do I mean it!

A question you’d like to ask another author?

When I finally finished Gods Grant Me the Serenity, I swore I'd never write another chapfic, or at least never begin posting one until the entire thing was done. How do you keep yourself motivated to keep updating ongoing fics? How far in advance do you plot/plan? Tell me all your secrets for being a successful chapfic writer!!

Wrestlers to Push

I know - but aren't they already the tag champions how could they get any better? FTR are so good I made an entire catagory which effectively dismantles the tag division because it's clear nobody can, should, or will be capable, of beating these two anytime between now and in 2021. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood are essentially one pick because these two will never go singles and should never be booked as such. Let their reign be long and AEW as a whole will prosper. Also try to book them as heels but not to resort to heel tactics to win every match because sometimes being dominant makes the belts worth far more.

One of the most impactful and natural talkers in his short time in AEW - everything he says has bite. He's also unique. He's going to fight dirty but he's also hard to dislike - there are just so many layers of complexity to the Mad King and the best is how people will immediately disregard him until he does something and then can't look away - this is the guy who will get new fans into the product. He's a throwback, a trendsetter, and an easy prospect all in one.

The reliable hand of AEW by far - the guy's been a mainstay throughout the year and, critically, not ex-WWE. Deserves his due. This recommendation could of gone to so many people throughout the year - Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, Penta El Zero M, Rey Fenix, but for one reason or another they all fail the test because of being injury-prone or getting into issues or just not ready. Stop his 50-50 booking and give him vital wins over big names.

Again I know - this guy is mega-pushed? I want to clarify something. Never de-push MJF - he's a prodigy who is already great and is going to get greater as he's cultivated. The guy doesn't need to be a star because he makes stars out of everyone he's been interacting with and yet even when elevated MJF continues to surpass them without much effort. Put him with FTR and you're going to have a reason to get rid of every other faction fast.

One of the unluckiest/luckiest men in AEW - his career has remained dorment post-Feb but pre-Feb was ace. Pac will tear up NJPW if given the chance to migrate over upon finding out his place in AEW is not as a top guy - you're easily looking at a guy who can be everything in AEW like a Prince Devitt or a AJ Styles or a Will Ospreay. When he returns you push this guy to the moon - I hope his look is even more goblinesque and PAC becomes the surprise 4th member to MJF and FTR.

Sometimes you need a good storyteller and you need people who are as good talking as they are wrestling. A complete package and a rising star who is also relatively new in AEW. Highly adaptable and versatile, AEW could pretty much give him anything and he'll turn it into gold - the Midas mouth of Ricky Starks is another way to get people into the company fast. I don't see him winning titles but I see him beating every non-title individual between now and next September. I feel like Taz should let Starks promote himself and be entertaining on his terms instead of over-promoting him. Pace his push and he'll gradually gain greatness.

Speaking of great talkers look who improved the most since the beginning of AEW. Only soured by her feud with Big Swole, Britt Baker is the embodiment of taking comedy heel to serious heights - her matches with Hikaru Shida are indications of just why she is tough and enduring as much as her behaviour is endearing. I could include her in the faction with FTR, MJF, and PAC as DMD. She just needs to improve a little and add a few moves in and she's AEW Women's World Champion bound.

Untapped potential - incredibly cool and has a story waiting to be told based on her association with the resident losers of AEW - make her somehow win by their (accidental) interference. Also please showcase her cosplay and more awoken side of being a bigger nerd than the two she manages - Leva is someone who heals all the wrongs of watching TV and her presence is always welcome. Everyone loves Leva Bates. You love her. I love her. What a woman. Heroic. Shapeshifter.

By contrast, her untapped potential is less about the entertaining side of pro wrestling and more the sports athleticism of pro wrestling - Serena Deeb is the most deserving woman in wrestling right now - of all the new signings or fresh faces there's someone who is genuinely eye-catching without having to be all about sex appeal or the gimmick. In other words I find her to be a future champion in the making and will make everyone she wrestles better off in defeat.

Ah see not everyone is an active wrestler to recommend! Taz is a fantastic personality, commentator, manager, and just about the jack-of-all-trades man you need him to be to support a product as big as AEW. I couldn't believe how well he gels with Tony Schiavone, JR, Excalibur, Jericho, Ricky Starks, Brian Cage, Darby Allin, Jake Roberts, Eddie Kingston, etc...it goes on and on and on. A hard working man - he's adapted and evolved from an underdog to a true legend.

i have taken a buttload of writing classes, got accepted onto the creative writing track at the best writing school in the US, ran a writing blog, finished an english degree, read writing books ...

do you know what has taught me more about writing than anything else?

WRITING THINGS AND PAYING ATTENTION TO HOW IM WRITING IT

im serious. nothing is going to teach you how to write except writing. want to write a good novel? WRITE A LOT OF NOVELS. HOWEVER, i have picked up on things over the years that i am very frustrated dont really get taught in writing classes. writing classes are a bunch of “here go write this and i’ll give you a grade” but like. there ARE things you can do to be a better writer

vary sentence length. absolutely important. a lot of one length is going to start to sound boring to the readers internal voice. if you cant do this naturally, take note of how many words are in each sentence as youre writing. each paragraph should have a little variety, and your paragraphs should have different numbers of sentences in them. if youre writing an action scene, trend towards shorter sentences. in my writing i tend to do a lot of “medium length. long length. long length. very short”

finish on the important information. put the important word at the end of the sentence. it keeps the reader engaged because they want to know WHATS happening and why its important. leave it for the end (this is especially true for comedy) 

adverbs aren’t bad but they really are easy to overuse. ask yourself each time “is there a better way to phrase this, and if not, does the adverb really add meaning to the sentence”. sometimes it absolutely does and thats great! a lot of times you can go without them. warning: taking the -ly off an adverb and just using the base word is valid! but your reader might interpret the speaker as uneducated and masculine, because that’s who typically does that verbally! (aka i took a linguistics & gender class and found out that i talk like an uneducated man!) 

are you starting a bunch of sentences with the same word? that sounds repetitive. major problem of mine. challenge yourself not to use the same sentence starter in each paragraph, or start the paragraphs with the same word. vary it! its harder than it looks, but you can practice

try to pepper in repetition with motifs! in my last fic i used the phrases “in the early days” and “as was mentioned” a few times each. it just helps the reader feel like they’re reading a cohesive work. one of my FAVORITE literary things is when a line comes back and means something different with repeated uses. LITERATURE!

rhythm is important. read your writing out loud and pay attention to how the sentence flows. things i use a lot to establish a beat: anaphora (repeated phrases: he thought blank1. he thought blank2. he thought blank3), syndeton (using multiple conjunctions: blank and blank and blank), and asyndeton (no conjunctions: blank, blank, blank.)

dialogue tags are your friend. the reader should know who’s speaking. when we go a long time with no dialogue tags it’s easy to get confused. HOWEVER. some tips. “said” is your friend. said becomes invisible. they’re going to see their name and that’s it and that’s fine. if you use something else, it should be justified. ‘“i love you,” he said’ is neutral. ‘“i love you,” he growled’ VERY DIFFERENT. if youre using a different tag, it should be because it adds meaning to the sentence. NO WORD WASTED! 

vary sentence structure. this includes dialogue! 

“blank” he said

“blank,” he started. he did blank. “blank” 

much more visually and audibly interesting! also - use actions with your dialogue! people move when they talk. a scratch on the neck might mean someone is embarrassed. your character might be nervous and fidgety. let people have body language!! and let them interact with their environment! 

AS FOR LARGER PROJECTS

i personally LOVE using the three act structure! if you’re not familiar, it goes like this:

ACT 1 

beginning (this is life in the BEFORE THE PLOT times)

INCITING INCIDENT (the plot is happening now! CALL TO ACTION)

door 1 (also called a “door of no return”. this is what pushes us into act 2 - what is this event that means the protagonist can never mentally or physically go back to how things were before?)

ACT 2 

midpoint (this should be the characters LOWEST POINT. they might not succeed!! how terrifying & engaging!) 

rising action! (stuffs afoot! the plot is gaining speed!) 

door 2 (oh no! they can never go back again!) 

ACT 3 

climax! (everything is coming to fruition!! everything has been leading to this!) 

falling action (this is our new world order) 

there are variations on this, but this is the basic gist. if you’re struggling with the middle of your book, which a lot of writers do, think of the midpoint. think of your protagonist. what’s the worst thing that could happen to them? whats something they would never want? how are all their plans going to fail? 

another thing you can do with your midpoint, or just your characters in general, is this: 

what is one thing they would never do, and how are you going to justify making them do it? 

this pretty much guarantees you a dynamic character, which i think is a trap beginning novelists (like myself, back in the day) can fall in to. your character needs to change--sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. if your character would swear up and down they’d never do one thing, OR if the reader THOUGHT they would never do one thing, what would that be? why are they now going to have to do it? 

another tip for big projects - figure out what kind of writer you are. do you write for the big stuff or the small stuff? 

some people are like “oh! i can’t wait for this big plot twist in act 2!” great! write everything to lead up to that plot twist 

i personally am more of a “oh i want to include this one specific line of dialogue/this one emotional beat/this one piece of imagery somewhere but x y and z would have to happen in order to make it make sense” and then i write in x y and z! 

basically, what are you EXCITED about in your story? write only for that 

another thing is wasted space. you might think writing four scenes of worldbuilding is a good idea, but aside for those worldbuilding nerd junkies out there, it probably isnt. every scene should move along the plot or develop your character. preferably both at the same time! i know everyone loves to be like “WE WERE ROBBED” about cut scenes, but like. a lot of the time those scenes were cut because they weren’t moving things along, and it was RIGHT for those scenes to be cut. sorry guys. pacing and development is important 

as far as motivation goes, find a HYPE MAN. or, even better, someone who is going to critically engage with your work. some people dont like to share their work until a full draft is written, but i need feedback as i go. find someone who’s going to tell you what they liked about it and what doesnt make sense in draft 1. these people are very important. too much criticism can kill a novel in the early stages. you need HYPE and a plot hole finder

Double Bill of Weird.

Weirdies (2018) Dir Chris Seaver

The team behind Warlock Home Video and Low Budget Films produced what could be described as the answer to What if a pervert made Stand By Me. Yes the story of kids walking the traintracks to see a dead body but SPOILER its just because they are super pervy and want to see a penis with rigamortis. Laugh out loud funny if not gross to the max. An 80s flash back with dick jokes to knock you out of the park. A little better produced then the usual Chris Seaver affair and the added little bit of subtlety oddly makes it even more gross in rude. A plus performances from company regulars Josh Squire and Alex Lambert who push the limits of their usual personas. If you have never seen these films this movie may leave you with your mouth hanging open in shock of the language and oddity with some wonderful musical numbers you would never see coming. Basically this movies wacky humor is not a sexual innuendo yet characters that talk about a sex so strangely you eventually have to stop and say to your self “wait do I even know what sex is anymore?” The weirdsies will make every outcast geek feel like a very normal part of society. An 80s sexy comedy on LSD.  Add in a rubber cock and an homage to Leslie Halls Watch out for my Body Rolls out of no where. The mad man behind this Chris Seaver has been holding onto this movie for a while only selling  a blu ray directly but has now add it to his It Crept from the 80s youtube page so that us stuck at home can enjoy some rude weirdness for free and for fun fun fun funnnn.

Jessies Super Normal Regular Average Day (2020) Dir Brian Williams

At first you think you are in the same universe as the Weirdsies with the stoner characters , bright colors and ridiculously upbeat Ska music but this movie is barely a world at all. Its way out there. Imagine Bill and Ted walk into Naked Lunch and make a sequel to John Dies at the End filmed almost entirely in two living rooms and a few closets. A stoner surreal comedy of the most psychedelic level while still being deep down a Cheech and Chong film. Take a puff and say whoa dude to the always adorable Ellie Church as Jessie who wakes up one day and finds reality has broken and it is trying to speak to her through the use of drugs and a random snail... yes a snail that may or may not be god. Imagine deeply if Douglas Addams Wrote a Cheech and Chong movie where Cheek and Chong were the beautiful stars of Space Babes from OuterSpace.  At first I had my usual reaction to surreal movies that say shit like “dude the world is all an illusion” which was “aw go fuck yourself ya stoners who wish the world was all an illusion cause the concept of their boring life being real is too depressing” (yes I often say those exact words) buuutt after giving a few seconds I took it back. It makes noooo fucking sense but who cares cause its bright and funny , pointless drunken partying Ellie Church and Allison Maier are adorable stoners and also like Weirdsies its filled with no budget musical numbers that are surprising charming. Add in topless nuns with chainsaws from another dimension speaking in some of the silliest tag lines ever and its alot of dumb fun. It could be because like the title character Jessie I too wake up every day with nothing to do but sit and watch tv with some bong rips and wonderful what is happening as the whole world is going through a dramatic change and wonder if it effects me or not then in the end I just make a sandwhich and go back to bed. Shockingly this movie was made before the pandemic but seriously seems to know more then its giving away.. dun dun dunnn.

The End: (Spoiler Free!)

I promise! NO SPOILERS! Though, I must say, if you're trying to avoid spoilers, you're currently doing a terrible job of it.

Plus, you havent seen it yet? What's wrong with you?! Quit fooling around with me and go now!

But, I digress.

"Part of the journey is the end"

We never want anything good to end. We never want anything to end badly.

I would say that this movie is about how we journey more so than how we end, but I'll get to that later.

Let's start off by paying homage to the beginning:

RDJ (Tony Stark)

- This dude had fallen off the map (at the time) - he had fallen off the wagon, the wall, the chain, the train, the mountain... if one could fall off of it, he was doing so , but Marvel put their confidence in him. No one knew how successful this whole thing was going to be. Not only were they trying to sell us a previously precarious actor, but a character who's a self-centered asshole... who profited off of war.

But, BOOM, Iron Man showed us that being an asshole could look good and make a lot of money.

CAPT AMERICA

- played by Chris Evans who had already failed as a superhero. 

But, more than that, just look at Capt

He looks ridiculous. He's corny. A lil self-righteous. And who fights with a frickin shield? He was a military man, so he has access to all kinds of weapons (not to mention all that I'm sure Tony Stark would make for him), but nope! - he says "Gimme me a shield; that's all I need!" In fact, that's a lil cocky now that I think about it. Plus, they had just showed us that being rich asshole was the way to go, now this (the opposite)?

BUT, America is short on solid leadership. We're crying out for someone to consistently believe in; not perfection, but someone who's at least all in. Marvel gave us that in Capt. Over time, we grew to love this man. Not to mention, that beard he rocked, 

and the ass of America (you’ll get that later).

Idk about y'all, but I'd follow Capt anywhere. If Chris Evans were to dress up like Capt America, and recruit people for a war (any war), I'd legit go! He IS Captain America to me.

SCARJO as Black Widow... how do I put this?

In the beginning, she was simply a pair of boobs in tight black. 

Now, I don't mean that's actualy what she was, but that's how many saw her. Black Widow carried with her the power to be objectified, and not just by men. I can remember when there were rumors that women in the industry were jealous of Scarjo, saying she's only getting quality roles cuz she's a pretty face.

She proved the doubters wrong though. She is and has been a great actress! Black Widow is seen now with the respect that she has always deserved. Honestly, if I can't have Capt lead me, my second choice is Widow.

We can go on and on, right??

HULK - we had two Hulk failures before Mark Ruffalo, but he has played him perfectly, and they finally got the Hulk right.

Hawkeye... 

Well, I kinda feel like his superpower is being lame, so that's ok :) There's one in every group. And can we all agree that bow and arrows as a main weapon is just stupid? Dude, there are people shooting guns at you! You've gotta take the time to pick out the correct arrow, aim, and... you know what?? never mind. He's Black Widow's boy, so he's alright with me. And it adds to my point that no one knew this would work.

And who knew that Chris Hemsworth would end up being their comedy anchor??

I never thought the Thor movies would work. I never thought that The Avengers movie would work (no way they could make all of the characters work together in a movie), but I have never been so wrong:)

We've laughed with them and cried with them, and were brought to the end by Thanos' snap with them. 

I can still remember what the theatre felt like after leaving "Infinity War" - people felt lost, confused, and kinda angry Not me of course, I was that jerk rooting for Thanos:) In "Infinity War" we got to see Thanos' side of the war. He doesn't see himself as a villain. I agree with his philosophy of balance.

Now, I would never choose him over The Avengers. I feel like the Avengers would make good bosses. They'd have bonuses, allow for a union (maybe), and definitely have pizza parties. Thanos might appreciate my loyalty and sacrifice me (literally) for higher production in the same breath.

One might say "Why not use the stones to create more resources?" I'd reply "But, then we don't learn anything."

The team definitely learned some hard lessons here. But, that brings us to this part of the journey "The End" -

Who do you blame? Do we just look at Thanos as the villain? Do we go with "Shit Happens"? A will of a higher power? Or are the Avengers culpable in anyway? It's all up for debate.

Anyway,

I break down this movie into four acts -

1 - ? (something I won't share:) 2 - Dealing with loss 3 - Hope 4 - Action (most of it is saved for the end - this is mainly a drama)

FIRST, the act I won't be talking about. Instead... many had theories and wishes going into this film, allow me to share some of mine.

I was hoping for a revelation that Thanos has been Stan Lee the whole time.

He rips off his mask in Mission Impossible fashion. We find out that he did the snap to get rid of characters that he really didn't care for. The Avengers respect Stan so much that they don't try to fight him, instead they simply move on. In doing so, Tony and Capt America realize their love for one another. Tony decides he'd rather marry Capt over Potts (his current fiance). This makes Potts furious and she storms off.

They have a big wedding with a shawarma reception. The ants from Ant Man perform at the wedding. 

Meanwhile, Potts teams up with Thanos aka Stan Lee, they gather all of characters forgotten in each series:

Natalie Portman, Jennifer Connelly (not her fault that old Hulk movie sucked), Terrance Howard... so on and so forth.

Stan Lee, Potts, and the scorned attack The Avengers, and there's an epic battle to bg music by Drake. 

PERFECTION RIGHT?!! I'm not saying that any of that happens, but I'm not saying that it doesn't.

2nd Act - Loss

Like I said, this is mainly a drama. They do a really good job (as always) at pulling out the humanity in these characters. All of the team are dealing with loss. Some remain strong on the outside, some move on, some move on poorly, some become self-destructive, etc.

The humanity in that is something we can all relate to. Loss is something that we all continue to experience and learn how to cope with every day. They're painting this real picture with a comic book series. Crazy, right??

Big help from great actors though.

RDJ always brings it; no surprise there. But, for me, Chris Evans and Scarjo shine the brightest as far as bringing the drama. Seriously, when Scarjo cries we cry.

Act 3 is about hope.

... even if that hope may be false. Again the humanity brought out in the characters here is what makes it work. Hope is an interesting thing -  Some deny it, some embrace it, some don't want it, some twist it, etc.

And again the acting and writing in this area is superb. I include the writing as well, cuz they know how to blend in humor with all of this tragedy. Chris Hemsworth is the man here! He is the rock of comedy in this movie. And I can't say enough about Mark Ruffalo - in fact I've knighted him as one of my dads. He's perfect for the role, but don't you also just want to play catch with him?

I just want to go to a ball game with Mark Ruffalo; am I alone in that? - probably:)

Lastly, we have act 4 - ACTION

And while this is mostly a drama, they make up for it at the end. Now, Marvel has that formula, and they stick to it here. They find everyone they can (who's still alive), CG them up to the max, and toss them in the ring. - And I don't say this in a bad way. Sometimes, the big CG ending in these types of movies ends up being a lil overwhleming or not well thought out, but not here - the writing and the choreography and the CG continue to hold up through the end.

The funny thing about all of the people that they throw in is some of them you probably won't even remember. Some of them don't have any lines - you just see them fighting in the background. Some people only show up to stand there in silence (what an easy day of work).

Everything leading up to a fitting poetic end.

Grade: A

The end was dope, but it's all about the journey, baby! We don't have too much control over when or how the story is going to end. You never know what could happen: sickness, drivers who simultaneously text, aliens (honestly, that's how I wanna go... battling aliens), our doppelgangers eliminating us and stealing our identities (a growing concern for most), ghosts...

- THAT is a sexy ass ghost. Cheer up, fellah, I think she digs you! If ghost start killing people by means of paranormal sexiness, perhaps I'd sign up. If only we got to decide how we go.

But, no one talks about the end of our lives, people reflect on the life journeyed  - unless you die in some hilarious manner

Some of us will be like Iron Man - starting out an asshole, but becoming a hero.

Some like Groot - your life gets blown up and you get to start fresh

Some will become something a bit mutated due to the sins of others

Some will get tagged on to the adventures of others cuz they shine so brightly :)

Still others will start lame, get lamer, and die lame :)

Hell of a movie. It's been a hell of a journey. Thanks, Avengers peeps!
