I used to have one or two when i was a kid, whatever. Remembered them and my brain got way too tingly: long story short autism be damned im insane.

I got absolutely obsessed by them again, they used to be released in Brazil by the Estrela brand but they were made by Hasbro (my autistic ass never fails when it comer to plastic/vynil animals from hasbro). I already collect LPS but now that i have adult money i'm very invested to get these little guys.

Progress made so far:

☆Bichon Frise - VERY damaged fur, i'm currently plucking it all out one by one to reroot the hair. I won't be able to replicate whatever they did with the original Bichon Frise fur texture or styling buuuut i can try to replicate a Maltese since their vinyl bases are p much the same 👀👀

☆Shih Tzu : I'm OBSESSED. I originally bought this one bc it was almost for free and i didn't how how difficult it was to find him. Fur is almost perfect, the vinyl base and original paint has some damage going on :( i'll try to fix it and find his body online (seems like it will be HARD.)

I never contacted a seller so fast in my entire life, as far as i know the Bichon Frise and some other breeds have an issue with the fur and styling going on bc of the texture, most of them are in pretty bad shape, the sintetic hair didn't seem to age well/behaved. I never seen a Bichon Frise being sold unopened. Besides that, got it for so cheap i just might go insane. I really hit the jackpot and i CANNOT wait to get my hands on it. So, yesterday I made a poll before going to bed and, while it isn’t done yet, consensus seems to be to draw more obscure Lorre characters.

Of course, Lorre being a somewhat obscure actor, what would make an obscure Lorre character? Well, M, The Man Who Knew too Much, the Maltese Falcon, Arsenic and Old Lace can be taken off the list because they're somewhat known in the mainstream. They're also usually the films that draw people into the Lorre fandom! The Secret Agent, Mad Love, Crime and Punishment, The Stranger on the Third Floor, and Der Verlorene also fall off, because I’ve often seen these being discussed in books about cinema, cinematic history, and classic directors. Crime and Punishment and Mad Love even feature in a '50 films you should see before you die' compilation that I have lying around somewhere! I was an Adventuress, The Boogieman will get you, You'll Find Out, the Raven, Comedy of Terrors seem to be pretty popular in fandom circles (especially where Lorre films intersect with other fandoms - like Vincent Price, Bela Lugosi, and Boris Karloff)

So I decided to focus on the films that aren’t as discussed, either in mainstream or in fandom or in film critic circles, featuring characters who seemed to cash in on Lorre's breakout film noir character: Joel Cairo. Or, as @angelamontoo once jokingly called them: 'Coel Jairo'. But I like them because they are different enough from Joel to be stand on their own, and the films they featured in are strange or interesting enough also to make fun analyses of.

First up: Kismet, the gardener studying for his civics exam and doubling as a cool knife thrower for his side gig. I like him a lot. I remember waiting for days to torrent My Favourite Brunette, and having to watch it as a thumbnail because it was the only version I could download. I was so entranced by Kismet. I loved how the film changed in tone whenever he came around - he strengthened Bob Hope's comedy by playing his menace straight and I've always had a soft heart for the 'extremely capable henchman' trope. Bob Hope's character is also hilariously unnerved by him, and one of my favourite scenes is when he tries to throw a knife at him, and Kismet just catches it, barely changing his expression. I also love how sick Kismet is getting of Ronnie Jackson's amateurishness and can barely conceal his glee when he gets to kill him.

Next up: Gino from The Chase. I like this film. I know it's a bit of a messy film, and I once turned it off when it turned out the whole scene in Cuba was hallucinated, but when I rewatched it and watched it all the way through, it really grew on me. There’s something intriguing about the dreamlike narrative it tells, and I love the visuals. I love how Gino stands in front of the roman busts, or how we first only see his eye through the eyehole behind a little cupid head. I like the nightmarish quality of the scene where that one guy gets torn apart by dogs in the wine cellar. I like how Gino's presence overshadows the scenes in Cuba. The way he becomes the figure of Death in this film. I love the strange scene where Chuck Scott ends up in the quarantine house, lit up by gaslamps and the constant sound of crying. I love the strange dinner scene where Lorna Roman is miserable and how Gino and Eddie Roman appear to be having an affair in her presence. I was disappointed when the film tried to clarify the hallucinations because it felt to me like it dropped the ball. I could have seriously enjoyed it more if it leaned in way more into its strangeness, like Stranger on the Third Floor did.

Finally, I drew Marco from Black Angel. I'm cheating a little, because Marco's been getting a bit of a comeback lately, but I think he still counts. I loved this film too. It’s such a classic film noir, with the flashbacks, the red herring villain (Marco), the drunken antihero, the psychological drama, the twist, the camera angles and effects… It’s exactly the kind of film I'd use as an example to explain the whole genre. I like Marco. Not least because he's one of the few Lorre characters who gets to see the end, but also because he's so well-worn… if that makes sense? Like he's seen it all. He's been around, he knows what people try. He manages his nightclub and that’s that. The film ends but you feel like Marco's club will still remain. Perhaps there are traces of it still around. I like Lucky, Marco's heavy. His right-hand man. His silly little rabbit. Does he call you that? Yes. No.

Scars/stories behind them?: It's not a scar but I did somehow manage to dislocate a rib. I used to work at Home Depot (a large hardware store change in USA for my non-USA followers) for about seven years and most of that time I worked in the paint department. I was the shorter one in the department, at 5'2'', and though one of the youngest I was usually the only woman. And though all of my older coworkers (my boss included) would try to encourage me to ask them to get me any five-gallon paint buckets I needed to tint. But...I'm hella stubborn and independent. So, during a shift where I was on my own for a lot of it, I ended up doing quite a few five-gallons (I think it was an order for a contractor but I can't remember). The next day, I'm taking a shower before work and I just happen to feel a bump somewhat below my left breast. Cue mild panic and a trip to the hospital to get an x-ray that confirmed I had simply dislocated one of my upper ribs.

Pets?: I have three dogs. I live with my parents still, so my dad's dog is a 8 year old Keeshound named Hobby (I call him the Grumpy Old Man) and my mom has a 10 month old Maltese named Winston. My dog is a 2 year old Pembrook Corgi named Bilbo, who I will often refer to as my son (because he is).

MRS. GUPPY TELEPORTS ACROSS LONDON

In June 1871, the 200-pound Lizzie Guppy, queen of Spiritualist circles, was writing her household accounts when she found herself whizzing though the air over London, summoned by two of her Spiritualist protegés to a séance. Her de- and rematerialization was reported Harry Price: "[She) instantly precipitated from her home to ... some three miles away, where she came down bump right in the middle of a séance-dressed only in her underclothes." Lizzie Guppy was born Agnes Nichol and orphaned at the age of one. She began to see spirits at the age of nine. They would not go away no matter how many cold baths or how much rigorous exercise she undertook. As an adult, Agnes changed her name to Lizzie. Her metaphysical talents soon became known by her friends. In 1866 she performed her first apportation of fresh flowers at a séance attended by the famous naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace. Over the years she materialized hundreds of fresh flowers and pieces of fruit.

In 1867 Lizzie married a rich older man, Samuel Guppy. They went abroad, impressing the Continental spiritualist groups with their séances. One man, asking for a sunflower, received a specimen six feet tall with a tangle of earth and roots. Princess Marguerite of Orléans wished for a prickly cactus, and over twenty of them fell onto the table, needing to be pried off. A duchess requested sea sand and got seawater and live star fishes with it. Showers of butterflies, snow, and feathers were known to fall from the ceiling, and unsourced music would play. Lizzie had also trained as a mesmeric healer and could levitate objects and herself. In 1870, back in England, the Guppys created an "apport post" in which items, including a Maltese dog and a white cat, were "mailed" from house to house.

Depression (Part 1)

This may sound silly to some of you, but I would like to express why I am becoming depressed. My whole life has changed, and it is like a train wreck as I type. On Saturday, Feb. 10, I overheard my mom and youngest sister (I'll call her K2) talking about having a dog since the depression pills the therapist prescribed her seemed to have concerning side effects. I pleaded with my mom through text to not get a dog (she was at a concert that day). On Sunday, Feb. 11 (Superbowl 58), my mom suggested getting a dog for real so my sister could cope with her depression and not be introverted. I reacted negatively because of my extreme fear of dogs (I'm scared of animals in general, but dogs are #1). My mother didn't like the way I reacted (being frantic, freaking out, and rubbing and scratching my head aggressively until it went red). I almost made her cry, but I immediately calmed down. I asked why she would suggest something I had a bad experience with that caused me to have a fight or flight response. She reassured me that it was for my sister's mental health and that I would get along with a dog [in a small apartment]. I heavily disagreed with her statement. I was so mad at her for suggesting such a thing that I'd rudely responded to her to anything she said for 25 minutes until I took a breather outside. I thought I was dreaming; in my life, it wasn't temporary like the time my other sister( I'll call her K1) was babysitting her best friend's pitbull mix. This was the real deal here. I started to question my existence, wondering if my life was even worth something. As the days went by, I started to worry and be scared progressively, seeing a bunch of stuff to raise a puppy: a crate, bed, food, dog bowl, toys, collar, names, pee pads—just everything that a puppy needs. K2 was sick and tired of my attitude and told me to shut the fuck up and stop bringing it up (as if). On Sunday, March 3, we got the puppy from the owners. K2 found a Maltese mix from a listing online and negotiated the price of 650 dollars. She got the money from her allowance and the art commission she started doing at school. That following Sunday was the day I went with my dad to shop for food; I didn't have a choice.
