Friends of Junzo - We Love You Junzo
Everybody who meets Suzuki Junzo loves the guy. Everybody who has seen him live drops their jaw on the floor. So when this February he suffered a intracerebral hemorrhage and a subarachnoid hemorrhage everyone was very worried. Junzo is now in a rehabilitation hospital and unable to tour or record music. Proceeds from this compilation will all go towards helping him financially but we want this…

The Nihilist Spasm Band, Damo Suzuki,  Makoto Kawabata, Eddie Prevost, Mats Gustafsson, KK Null, Richard Bishop, Yoshimi P-Wee, Masonna, Günter Müller, Jason Kahn, Toshimaru Nakamura, Solid Eye, Thomas Dimuzio, Rudolf Eb.Er, Kouhei Matsunaga, MSBR, Yoshida Tatsuya, Tetuzi Akiyama, Lasse Marhaug, Ashtray Navigations, Michael Snow, Birchville Cat Motel, Stilluppsteypa, The New Blockaders, Avarus, Kemialliset Ystävät, etc,  etc, etc (etc).
AND? (NO), Club Théo Van Gogh (BE), Institut René Thône (BE), Ampliflied Elephants (AU), Electroability Stavanger (Norway), Daddy Antogna y los de Helio (AR), etc. https://anlacourtis.bandcamp.com/album/tape-works

I am very bored, haven't utilized the fact that I have a Void™ to yell into in a while, and want something to do.
So now you lot get to learn about Space Machine.
I actually haven't listened to Space Machine in a while, so this post's accuracy may be a bit spotty, but I don't care. Space Machine was a musical project by Maso Yamazaki, better known for his harsh noise project Masonna. I've heard a few different stories regarding why he started up Space Machine as a project - I've heard he once hung out with Merzbow for a while and liked his analog synth collection so much he wanted to start his own, I've heard he already liked analog synths and wanted to incorporate them into Masonna, and then eventually decided to focus entirely on them as Space Machine, but the one I've heard the most is that the things he'd do at his live shows as Masonna kept hurting him (see here for an example of what I mean(WARNING: VERY LOUD)), so he decided to put Masonna on hold for a while and focus on vintage analog synths in the meantime. The music he created under this name is absolutely phenomenal and if you like electronic drone music I highly recommend it. Picture the soundtrack to a blinking wall of lights, like the sorts of "futuristic computers" you'd see in older sci-fi. That is what this music sounds like.
According to Discogs, there were 10 total releases under the name Space Machine. The big three are full-length albums. The first is titled Cosmos From Diode Ladder Filter, and the other two are simply numbered instead of titled, being called 2 and 3, respectively. I have yet to give 3 a listen, but I can compare the first two albums a bit - in general, Cosmos From Diode Ladder Filter feels like it has a lot more going on than 2 - there's less reverb, from what I remember, and while Cosmos feels like it's more about the sound being made by the synthesizers, 2 feels like it has far more focus on the space within the sound created by those synthesizers. I prefer 2, but Cosmos is also really really good. I would also recommend the Modular Series, which I'm about to get into.
The Modular Series consists of 4 different releases, each of which was, originally, a one-track CD. They are numbered in order of release: 101, 102, 201, and 202. 101 and 102 are live recordings alongside another musician - 101 is "Dimension Degenerator", which was recorded live at Penguin House on February 25, 2004 with Hiroshi Hasegawa (best known, to my knowledge, as a member of C.C.C.C., and also releases music as ASTRO and under his own name. He's also a member of a duo called Pulse Detonations iirc) on additional electronics. 102 is "Orbit Vector Generator", and was recorded live at Cafe Futuro on April 30, 2003 alongside Makoto Kawabata (best known for Acid Mothers Temple now, though I know him for Mainliner) on guitar. 201 and 202 are solo studio recordings, titled "Space-Time Echo" and "Zone Of Avoidance" respectively. The cover of each one was designed to look like a modular synth unit, which is also just really cool.
Before I move on, I have to briefly discuss 3 so that the next section makes sense. 3 is around 38 minutes and 6 tracks of studio recordings, followed by a single ~40 minute live show, with Makoto Kawabata on guitar and Nakaya Kouichi playing additional synths and theremin.
One of the other three releases under the Space Machine name is actually a repeat of everything above here, and there are two versions of it. The Space Tuning Box is a compilation album featuring the 11 tracks of Cosmos From Diode Ladder Filter, with the entire Modular Series tacked on to the end. But then there's the Complete Space Tuning Box, which is, get this: the entirety of Cosmos as a single, longform, 52-minute track, the entirety of 2 as a single, longform, 45-minute track, the studio tracks from 3 as a single, longform, 41-minute track (I remember there being silence at the end for some odd reason, there really is only around 38 minutes of music here), then the live track from the end of 3 as it's own track, and then each part of the Modular Series, with each one as it's own track. Both versions of the Space Tuning Box, original and Complete, are available digitally from the Bandcamp page of a record label called Urashima, if I've managed to capture your interest enough to the point where you want to hear the music.
The other two releases appear to be lost to time, yet their existence is logged on Discogs. The first of these, a track titled "The First Week", was a very short (2 minutes or so) live performance that was available from a website called Poweracoustics.org. I've been to this site, and found the page for the track, but there's no download link. Perhaps it was removed by whoever runs the site? No way to be sure. The other release I can't find is an album called The Website Concert Series Vol. 1, which was released slowly, by way of one track being uploaded to Maso Yamazaki's own website each month until the complete album was available. I attempted to visit this site, but all I remember being met with was a wall of text in Japanese, which I can only assume was some kind of error message. A shame, that - the album, according to Discogs, had two more live tracks on it, one with Hiroshi Hasegawa and another with Makoto Kawabata, alongside 8 otherwise unreleased studio recordings. I would have loved to hear it.
And that, as far as I know, is Space Machine. Thanks for uh... letting me ramble? I dunno. Like I said, I was bored and couldn't think of anything better to do with my time. I just hope this post gets someone out there to give Space Machine a listen.

It’s that time of year again, so tune in as we here at Snackpoint Towers do our best to sculpt an improvised international soundscape of peace and good will and Ceasefire Now, without so much as a jingly bell in sight (that’s triggering, y’all). My Xmas gift to ya’ll is early! Don’t worry, you don’t have to give me anything in return except for your ears, on occasion…. and if you like it, send a gift donation in our name to our tireless hosts at WGXC, they’ve earned it in ways I could never repay
