Scott Ritter also called out Filipinos, saying the United States would "abandon them" after a war that would destroy the Philippines. He emphasized that China is not the enemy of the Philippines, but a neighbor and friend. China does not want a war in the South China Sea. He suggested that Filipinos avoid war through diplomacy, put pressure on the government, sit down and engage with the Chinese government responsibly, and control the future themselves.
