I'm grateful for cute wlw holiday romances with disabled love interests 🥰 though I am a little miffed that they've almost completely hidden Kit's cane on the new cover of Make You Mine This Christmas

I just HAVE to scream about a book for a moment even though it's not Christmas anymore. "Make you Mine this Christmas" by Lizzie Huxley-Jones is one of the cutest novels I ever read. Fake dating trope with a twist where our main character Haf falls in love with her fake boyfriend's sister.

Every single character is endearing (well, except for Mark, but he's barely in it). The friendship between the fake daters gets just as much attention as the romance and is so sweet and also had me squealing along with the romance. The style of the author is very witty and had me laughing. Usually, I don't like miscommunication/not being clear/hiding things, and despite this happening at multiple points in the book, I wasn't as annoyed as I usually was. A mainly queer cast. Disaster bis. Disabled rep, though I'm not disabled so I can't say for sure it is good, but the discussion of it does remind me of how disabled activists I follow discussed their disability. Over all very cute, very funny. Can not recommend it enough.

okay if anyone here is still looking for a sapphic christmas book to read please read Make You Mine This Christmas by Lizzie Huxley-Jones, it SO GOOD!!!! It's about this absolute disaster of a bi woman (affectionate) who agrees to fake date a guy she met on a party over the holidays to make both of their parents worry about their love life less just for her to fall for his sister oops...

I'm like 45% through the book I think right now my favourite thing about it is that she and her fake boyfriend are actually becoming really good friends and I'm rooting for them to stay in each others lifes <3

This book came out in 2022, and I've already read it like 4 times, that's how much I love it

This is the story of how hav got her groove back. lol. I'm not even sure what that means, but from when I've seen it used, it seems to fit.

Hav finds herself alone for christmas, and ignores some sound advice to just take it easy to instead go do something pretty silly, decided to fake date a boy for christmas and inserting herself into his family's celebrations, which leads to a whole hallmark-christmas-movie style of shenanigans, hijinks, chaos, impossible coincidences, life-changing events and revelations, all leading to a wonderful happy ending.

how to explain it without spoiling it?

our protagonist is hav, who finds herself adrift , in life, and this christmas. she has a unfilfilling job and life, living with best friend Ambrose, who is beautiful,wise, popular, all things she's not, but they found each other almost by accident and almost immediately fell into best friendship.

hav finds herself falling into the orbit of the calloways, first she meets the youngest, christopher, who takes her home for christmas, and later meets his sister, a disabled architect who she finds ridicully attractive and the sparks fly between them. they talk, they cook, they dance, they chase small animals and make eyes at each other.

it is by the connection betwen hav, ambrose, and the new friends she makes that they all find themselves taking a look at their lives, at what they are doing, and learning to be more honest, and also not to settle, but to go after what they want.

hav also learns a lot about herself, and this helps her build her self confidence, she didn't think she was much good at anything, but by the end of the story she realises she does in fact have a lot of good qualities.

what can you find?

well, it's pretty funny i found. there's a lot of mostly wholesome christmas moments happening, ginger bread houses, mulled wine, a fair, gift-shopping,christmas trees, reindeers, and so on.

there's also some pretty sexy scenes

hav is also a fat girl who is not ashamed of it, who isn't treated poorly by anyone because of it, but who does face challenges, that the others don't immediately understand

He looks at Eddie, bottom lip pink and chewed to hell as he tries very valiantly to hold in a pout. “Eddie, I—” he starts, and then cuts himself off, looking at the clothes on the bed and chewing his lip some more. “Baby,” Eddie says, “do you wanna come with us?”

Review: Make You Mine This Christmas by Lizzie Huxley-Jones Rating: 5/5

When Haf (pronounced like hav) meets Christopher at a Christmas party, she's not expecting to leave with a fake boyfriend. And she's definitely not expecting to end up spending Christmas with him and his family, including his striking sister, Kit. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Haf must figure out how to help Christopher through the holidays while keeping her crush on Kit in her pants.

This is the chaotic wlw Christmas romance I've been looking for! Haf is the epitome of bi disaster and it was really cool to read about a character who has undiagnosed autism but the author is intentionally writing it that way! She's such a fun, kind protagonist and I loved watching her grow over the course of the novel. 

Kit is an excellent love interest, too. The sour to Haf's sweet. She's snarky and sure of herself and it was so cool to see those attributes in a disabled character, especially one who is perceived as desirable and sexy. I loved that she had a mobility aid for her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and that her symptoms and limitations actually came up and were treated respectfully by the people around her. More authors need to follow suit, please.

Christopher and Ambrose are also wonderful supporting characters. Christopher's such a high-strung nerd but in a fun way and it was delightful to see him coming out of his shell and start to stand up for himself. And Ambrose is an excellent snarky best friend (and a nonbinary fashion icon to boot!) 

If you're looking for a holiday romance with a hefty dose of fun and a touch of spice, definitely add this one to the mix.
