How does one start with perfumes? Like good ones? I got burned as a teen by getting like 3 different basic cheap things a year from aunts and grandparents that claimed to be different scents but never seemed like they were, but realized that might have been oversaturation and my life's adults not wanting to put in effort. Would like to start exploring them properly now, years on from that. Is there books? Primers? Can I mail for a scratch-and-sniff card from fancy makers?

Perfume is one of the things that is genuinely difficult to get into, it has a high bar to entry, so it's not your imagination. That's why most people just wear whatever they started wearing as a teenager. Most things I encourage: fitness, cooking, fashion don't require NEARLY as much work or cash as people pretend, but perfume pretty genuinely does.

ANYWAY, doesn't make it impossible at all, I just wanted to let you know you are not nuts.

I very much have my own preferences at this point, and generally prefer more niche perfumes. But I started with just designer perfumes! Most people do. You can go to most Sephoras and just spray perfumes from the testers onto the strips. This is a great place to start seeing what you're drawn to! Everyone is different. And you may change as you get deeper into the hobby.

Once you start looking at notes you're drawn to, you can get samples on cards! You can just buy these on ebay. MAKE SURE THEY ARE CARDED. This is a way to help make sure you're getting what you're getting. EVen better, sephora has designer discovery kits with a voucher for a full size

You can also just ask on craigslist or FB marketplace or whatever and see if anyone has perfume samples they're getting rid off, but no one sells stuff to get rid of it anymore it seems, it's all to turn a profit ahaha. If you were coming to visit me I would give you the bargain i do to basically anyone who visits--feel free to use any of my perfumes while you're here and give them a shot, I own both men's and women's.

Start seeing what you like on you! What notes are you drawn to, does your skin pull a scent sweet, or smoky, or whatever? If your ultimate aim is to find a perfume or two to wear every day (I generally recommend a summer and winter perfume for people. Winter perfumes can be stronger and headier, you generally want something lighter for summer) this is easy enough.

I really recommend DecantX or The Perfumed Court for buying decants, which are basically large samples. This is a a lot of what i have. I'm not much of a full bottle buyer! The Perfumed Court has goddamn nearly everything you could possibly be looking for, DecantX has great pricing. Don't bother with shit like Scentbird, it's a scam and you would be better served to order 17 dollars worth of stuff from decantX every month until you found your bliss.

If you find a HOUSE you are interested in, they very often have a sample set to buy. One of my favorites is Frederic Malle, and they have samples and discovery sets. Etat Libre D'Orange is a pretty boundary-pushing house, but they have a pretty reasonably cheap discovery kit.

It's taken me years to get to the point I am at, so don't stress out too much. I wore just, Flowerbomb for years, until i discovered there were much more vintage style straight florals out there. Don't be afraid to experiment! I love florals, and they are my main feminine wear, but I also love Tom Ford's Ebene Fume, which is rich and smoky. Have fun with it!

So I called animal services while I was at the park and they asked that I email the videos and photo of his face with my reference number to the previous report so I’ve done that. Now they have a clear image of him and I have clear evidence and it’s not just my word against his

I’m praying they actually show up at the time I said he’s there at and on a day he’s actually there. If they miss him then what?

Now that I have that footage I can avoid the hell out of those paths to at least keep my duo safe. Priority #1 for sure.

But I shouldn’t have to be the one doing that. He has a clear bite risk, and he knows that. It’s his responsibility to keep that dog from biting someone, it’s not everyone else’s responsibility to ensure his dog doesn’t bite theirs.

My own dog was reactive for a very long time, I understand the situation better than most and am significantly more understanding than most on this subject. Believe me when I say I do not care that his dog aggressive or lunges, that’s genuinely so unbothersome to me.

He is now, after FOUR bite attempts that are mere inches from either myself or my dog, is locking his flexi and pulling his dog in. Fabulous! Love you not allowing your dog to have access to mine like you used to! That’s progress!

But why are you not making space? Moving the dog to the outside leg? The last two instances you saw us from miles away in a wide open space with grass on both sides. You can easily step off to the side, make room, turn around, make the situation Safe. Instead you walk in the Middle of the walkway? Not even pulling yourself to the outermost edge to Try to increase distance? There’s no way that your dog launching at people is really what you want so why aren’t you trying?

Why are you communicating absolutely nothing to your dog? The most I have ever heard from him to his dog is a mumbled hushed “oh no no no no” quieter than a talking tone. There’s no training going on here, no attempt to improve the behaviour, no attempt to have control in the situation, no attempt to prevent the event. There’s no care here.

He’s an older guy, when his dog is lunging and dragging it makes it a few feet right to me. I can hear the handlers feet being dragged. He is not physically strong enough to hold this dog back. Not forever at least. He’s going to get knocked down and get himself seriously hurt along with whatever dog the shepherd wants to hurt at that point.

Your dog is actively trying to bite other dogs, why are you bringing them to a highly public park down the hyper narrow forest trails that are always packed with dogs? This park has open spaces! It has fields! It has super wide walkways and even forest zones that are less popular! Pick the ones your dog can succeed in! Why are you picking these ones??? This place can be great for reactivity training and exposure! For the love of god do it safely!

At this point I don’t even know what I want to come of this. Thankfully our city has good bite risk dog laws that don’t immediately go the 💀 route. If his dog is deemed dangerous he’ll be required to muzzle the dog in public, use a 6 foot lead, have proper fencing and tie outs at home, only walk the dog by someone who’s physically capable, as well as submit proof of paying a trainer to work on the dog’s behaviour. All of those things would actually be the best outcome here. Dog gets the proper training it needs, owner gets to keep his pet and learn proper handling, everyone else is kept safe.

But on that note who is going to enforce that? I guarantee you he’d stick with it for a week then I’d find him on a flexi launching at me right after.

I don’t know what needs to happen but whatever it is it’s gotta happen before someone gets seriously hurt.

Its HOW the adds are in there. Television used to have RULES about where commercials were put in. You used to have ACTS and a fade to black that made SENSE. A scene is supposed to end on something that makes sense or build up to a moment or reveal or something.

These streamers will put add in anywhere. It doesn't matter if its in the middle of an emotional scene, even the middle of a sentence sometimes. It really messes up the experience.

Like, ok, if you are a streaming site that has adds, new rule is your adds have to make sense. Someone HAS to review these shows and puts adds in an appropriate place. If you just gonna be the same as TV then you gotta follow TV rules. I know they dont care, buts incredibly annoying. PLEASE TELL ME OTHERS FEEL THE SAME.

Finishing School: An Attempt At a Beginner's Guide to Accessorizing

Today, we are going to build a bitch. Two bitches, actually, and we are going to build them off of this outfit:

Actually, I take that back. This isn't an outfit, it's an article of clothing. This is a dress from Eshakti, I wear on almost every plane ride, it doesn't wrinkle much, it's easy to wash, it's comfortable and I like the color.

There's nothing wrong with this, there's just not a lot right with it. No one would look at me wearing this and say, "Wow, you look incredible today!"

If you're trying to turn heads, or at the very least get a compliment, you have to think of your outfit as a whole piece, head to toe. Or inside to out, those are both valuable ways of thinking about it. I prefer to go from inside to out, so that's what we're going to do on this little venture.

We're going to build two women: The Old-World International Sophisticate, and The Retro Cutie. Both ladies in my cabinet, both achievable with this dress even if it's not my default for either. My goal is to show you how accessories can change an outfit's feel and tone, as as well as change how it looks on you, and whether it's something a person would consider a 'true outfit'.

But, for the moment, we just have good ol doc doc up there
