The Many Illustrators of A Tale of Two Cities 4: Curtiss Sprague

...& a guest book editor...

This week's is a special one. We'll dive right into this 1930 edition by first admiring all the silhouette art of its illustrator, Curtiss Sprague - but see if you notice something extra along the way:

And to highlight the last one for its marvelous misquote:

Alright, have you noticed it? There's more than just ink coloring some of these pages!

Yes, this week we're not just taking a look at this 1930 edition - we are taking a look at this particular copy of this 1930 edition, which features not just Sprague's beautiful work...

...but also the work of William*, a high school sophomore 92 years ago who clearly learned the lesson from my last post! *although perhaps not clearly enough because I personally can't tell for certain what his surname is by his signature😅

Besides his coloring in Sprague's silhouettes, there isn't a lot more of his work written throughout the book - he did make sure to take plenty of notes in the blank pages, though!

William's work made searching through and scanning this particular book an absolute delight - it was a grounding and beautiful reminder that students have been idly writing in their schoolbooks for as long as school has existed.

A sound mind, a focused body, these two conditions held a higher frequency given the methods of how they come to spend today. Caelus practically held a natural affinity for keeping his focus tucked at vivaciously high scales if the time called for it. Even in this moment it found itself devoted to seeing how Yanfei just got sucked into her moments. It was a flame he always found himself appreciating.

Say what you will about her, but her devotion certainly makes her attuned with the world at large.

"Huh. Make senses. Considering the influence that makes a good guide for them." That attention once devoted to her face changes route, peering towards the dreamy earth beneath them. For the Trailblazer, it felt as if so much more could be perceived once Xipe's gaze decided that his journey was too good to pass up. Reality itself had a new layer to have everything perceived.

Something that goes a bit beyond the typical five senses, yet, it had a magical means of ensuring those five senses could be heightened to that very scale. Similar to changing a radio dial, the uniform would remain, except a whole new shade would be introduced. It was brimming with style, a natural ingenuity whipping free from all life.

As if he's drawing up some invisible headphones, Legwork's Hat would be pressed upon his head while a dashing smile settles on his lips. No amount of hesitation was carried to stare into those charming eyes of Yanfei.

"Here. Step into it with me." Wasn't it fascinating? How a little perspective could seamlessly draw out his potential?

also this is my ebay $14 book haul i’ve wanted this book on ritual for FOREVER n i have reservations about women who run w the wolves because of some of the language but i’m grown and can handle it and ive always thought miss clarissa pinkola estes is the voice of a generation tbh !
