if you have the time or resources, i ask you to consider helping our friend mustafa balata from gázá.

mustafa comes from a family of 10 who are all stuck within gázá and are in desperate need of help. mustafa and his 10 family members once lived in a safe, warm house, but as of the óct 7th attacks, their only living situation has been compromised and they have been searching for a new home. like many other páléstínian families, they have been left with the only option to evacuate from gázá go through the ráfáh crossing.

however, many obstacles stand in their way from evacuating. mustafa’s sister, who is six months pregnant as of january 2024, is fearful of not being able to give birth due to the conditions they are currently living through. almost all hospitals are being overwhelmed with several other people in need, and it is currently a horrifying situation for all involved. along with this, a child in the family needs leukimia treatment, but cannot afford to obtain so in the environment they are in.

the fundraiser needs €60,000 to be fufilled to its minimum and is currently more than halfway there.. in the words of fundraiser organizer maha balata,

“However, the financial burden of such a move is staggering, and it's with humility and urgency that I reach out for your support to make this evac//uation a reality. The permit fee to cross Ra//fah is 5000 euros per person, and with ten family members, the total cost is overwhelming. On top of that, we need 8,000 euros to cover immediate living expenses, medical treatment, and care, especially for my sister's delicate health condition. Adding to our challenges, there's a child in the family who recently completed leukemia treatment before the war and needs monthly medical examinations and analyses during this recovery period. Lastly, we require approximately 1,995 euros to cover the GoFu//ndMe transaction fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction).”

Delirious as he is, I still think Arulmozhi holds Poonkuzhali in a high regard at this point of time, because his first thought to tell his adored sister was about her. I do believe he felt something for her, at least as a friend, or something akin to admiration for her.

Also….this is making me think, for in a future chapter, one probably set a few days after this one (as Arulmozhi, Sendhan and Poonkuzhali reach Choodamani monastery) one of the monks there speaks of Kundavai having visited them in the recent past, and spoken of the possibility of them hosting Arulmozhi, that what is the timeline for these events? I like to think that Kundavai had spoken to the monks in Nagapattinam and sent Arulmozhi a letter regarding the possibility of him being enthroned, or had Annirudhar rely her message, which means Kundavai had visited Nagapattinam very recently, perhaps after leaving Thanjai on the way to Pazhayarai?

cruisequarries part THREE (aka, 2023)

PART ONE PART TWO Did I realize how long this would be when I started, no, but I should have - considering we're covering seventeen years of "one long conversation about movies occasionally interrupted by production", as McQ is fond of describing it.

2023 begins somewhat low-key, for them, but they do go out to dinner -

(I left out previous dinners in previous years, because there are a lot.) In February, of course, they all go to the Oscars nominee luncheon. There they are all touching.

Tom did a bunch of other stuff while they were in LA, including the Corden taping, and then DR went to film off the coast of Italy on an aircraft carrier for a few days, so whether or not they'd go to the actual Oscars was up in the air. That morning the news hit that Tom wouldn't be going, but McQ flew back at the last possible minute (Heather was still in LA) to attend the ceremony. The lack of pictures is DEVASTATING to me, the person who loves to see Heather in a fancy dress, but here they are with Maha:

Two days later, the three of them were at Sir Michael Caine's birthday party, and two days after that Tom and Chris were on the ice cap, as DR filming moved to Svalbard.

BIG COATS. And Mario. After Svalbard, they go back to the UK for some more DR work there, and then head to the States for test screenings and editing, etc. The McQuarries do some stuff with their kids, Tom films his thing for the Coronation and goes to see Janet Jackson, and everyone goes back to London for the cast screening of the movie before the premiere circuit starts. Everyone then heads to Rome! Cast and crew cocktail party! Tom, you look so serious here.

After Rome, they went back to the UK in Tom's helicopter.

And then they randomly went on a one-day yacht trip around Sardinia? (At this point I was just wailing "Is this real life?" into my hands, basically.)

From there, they went to Abu Dhabi for the next premiere - alas, no official threesome portrait but here's Heather and Chris.
