Max' Rune Ceremony Party, 2.0

Remember Max's rune ceremony party that Magnus threw for him? I know it was merely a plot device for setting up the confrontation with Iris in Magnus' home, and bring focus to all the rampant emotions that previous episodes had burdened the characters with.

But even as I was watching it the very first time, my thoughts looked something like: How is this a fun party for an 11 (10?) year old?

So how about: Magnus just takes everyone to Disney World.

alec's style is the fit in trsom where he layer a leather jacket over hoodie, except now the leather jacket is some authentic italian leather costing 1000$ and the hoodie is ralph lauren. very subtle, very preppy boarding school with inheritance quiet luxury boy, ysl (magnus got confirmed wearing them and magnus shop/magic clothes for alec), loro piana, ami paris (magnus think "a" can be an initial alec is tres chic)

“Rodimus…” you let out a sigh as the Captain in your arms let out a drunken giggle. Apparently, there was a party at Swerve’s, almost everyone was there except for Ultra Magnus and yourself, everyone got drunk, and you and Ultra Magnus had to do cleanup.

And of all mechs, you ended up with the obnoxious captain.

“Awe, come on—“ Rodimus let out a drunk hiccup, an equally drunk grin plastered on his face “don’t be so uptight all the time, my femme! Relax a bit!” He said with half-lidded optics, slinging an arm around your neck “Let loose!—“ he let out another hiccup. You let out another frustrated sigh.

You ignore the rest of Rodimus’ words as you arrive at the door of Rodimus’ hab suite. You quickly enter the code and open the door, walking inside. The captain’s hab suite is as neat and clean as you expected it to be. Which, wasn’t all that neat.

You plop Rodimus onto his breath, turning on your pedes to get out as quickly as possible. Suddenly, you felt Rodimus pull you down - catching you by surprise as you find yourself now on Rodimus’ berth, his helm on your chassis and arms wrapped around your back.

“Stay. Please.” It might’ve been the tiredness in you, or maybe it was his tone, or maybe cause of the heat that had suddenly rushed to your face, but you couldn’t bring himself to deny. Not when he looked so vulnerable, was vulnerable. Not when his tone a silent plea due to his drunkenness or something else, you couldn’t tell.

Slowly, you wrap your arms around his mid section, already feeling him falling alseep on your chassis. Atleast he was warm, that was what you thought before you felt yourself drift into the land of dreams too.

because those young annoying shadowhunters that interrupted one of his parties and dragged him along would be gone. because even though he tried to act like they didn't mean much to him, they did. because he got used to their presences in his life and now he can't remember what it was like without them.

because that man he had seen become a silent brother and come back as a shadowhunter, would be gone. after living a life full of love, yes, but he would be gone, just as the ones before him.

because he would know what losing a son feels like. and the pain in his heart would be unbearable.

because it would mean he lost the love of his life. because it would mean that, maybe, just as tessa, he would end up forgetting the blue of his eyes that he loved so much, the sound of his voice, his laugh, his mannerisms, the things that made him, him.

because the parts of his life that were filled with alec, rafael and friends would suddenly be empty, he would be empty.

because he would feel like his heart is being ripped apart every time, but he would choose it over being a shell with no feelings. because that would mean he may forget.

and he would never, ever, want to forget his reason to live.

It highlights an interesting conundrum of subtitling: how to intuitively portray something said for a deaf/HOH audience, in this case a filtered voice. Feedback I received including that of @maplecaster led to the final result, and I think it works tremendously well.

Second, we have The Short Sniper by community regular, kitpigeon. Short and sweet, high-quality subs for one of Jerma's low-profile videos. Great job.

Next, we have Receding Randy transcribed by @maplecaster. This was some fine stuff. I'm embarrassed how long it took me to sync it, but that's only because I'm something of a perfectionist. I try to limit the time sink, but I want the best for the subtitles, and it only makes sense to polish the time to be as good as the text content.

After that, we have an absolute classic in the form of Grab that Grotto 5—no relation to Grotto Beasts—by @graysaregay. Well done on this. I did some executive editing for some tricky stuff like the text-to-speech voice. I'm really glad this ol' classic nearing a million has captions now.

And finally, italoplumber has provided a German translation of The Max Cow Capacity Compulsion. Never would've guessed he was popular in DACH countries, but I suppose it makes sense. It's in his name. Willkommen in Jermany.

season 1, episode 6 “of men and angels” discussion list

so I just want to start this off by thanking anyone who is actually reading my ridiculous and stupid thoughts because I know season one is long as fuck. but the reason it’s so long is because in the show and the books, Alec’s identity isn’t really brought up that often. in the first five episodes, it’s heavily focused on clary being a shadowhunter and jace. but now, Alec is getting more screen time 🫶🏼

1. Magnus opening up his home even after Valentine is hunting warlocks doesn’t get enough love. he could be locking himself up, hiding, but he is not only helping shadowhunters but also another wolf. Magnus has such a big heart 🥹

2. now jace is all like but I can’t ask Alec, he and I are fighting. and whose fault is that?

3. “same old judgmental mom to me.”- Izzy’s relationship with Maryse. Isabelle gets ignored by Maryse and gets treated as everything she does is somehow insulting

4. “He can call me when he’s done chasing the little girl” ok alec go off 🔥 he’s right though. Jace has thrown Alec to the side and expects Alec to be okay with it.

5. another rare smile out of Alec 🥹

6. Robert is now saying they can’t have someone the entire shadow realm is looking for outside of the institute. then call jace and take it up with him. y’all think Alec hasn’t tried? Alec is done trying with Jace

7. Alec: you need to come back to the institute. Jace: you need to help me first. seriously? everything that comes out of jace’s mouth is a cry for help. have you thought about actually being there for Alec, jace? I don’t know maybe being his friend and taking threats serious?

8. I couldn’t find the gif but Simon saying how jace treats Alec like a lap dog is my favorite line from Simon. all jace does is tell Alec to do this and do that. he never asks if he can, he just tells Alec he needs something and uses their parabatai bond as a statement, of alec will do this for me. Alec doesn’t do anything for himself, it’s for others. and this is just how clary treats Simon as well. she expects Simon to do what she needs but I don’t ever see her asking him or even asking Simon what he needs or wants.

9. shadowhunters are supposed to protect the shadow world but the way they talk to mundanes and downworlders shows the opposite. Jace calls Simon mundie, mundane and clary calls Magnus warlock in this episode.

10. Robert saying the lightwoods are the best of the shadowhunters- he’s not wrong 😌 but I’m biased

11. side note- I like how the show focuses more on the lightwoods. even later on when they try to make herondales seem “superior” izzy is like we’re royalty basically. it’s always funny to me when they try to make jace or any herondale seem better but who was always saving his ass or the day? LIGHTWOODS. put some respect on the name please

12. Magnus coming in with the tea this whole episode!!!!!!!! “Shadowhunters believe in the law as absolute. They could never conceive of one of their own as going astray.” the clave believed when Valentine was murdering downworlders and fabricating some story as if the shadowhunters were the innocent and victim party. because how dare a shadowhunter be evil?????????

14. I get why Alec is upset because while he’s been dealing with EVERYTHING, izzy gets to be a diplomat while he gets sent off to a chapel. no wonder Alec is upset.

Ghostly roommate

There is a distinct lack of Ghosts in most tv-shows. Sadly, Shadowhunters also did not have any ghosts. So what if Magnus had a house ghost? Who reacts to the different guests that Magnus keeps having. Izzy might find one of Magnus' scarfs floating towards her, and Magnus is: "You are right, Casper. That one would certainly compliment her outfit." And Clary's hair gets pulled when she tries making stupid plans. "Ow, okay, okay! Anyone have a better idea?" Alec's coffee is suddenly switched to decaf, if the rings under his eyes get too dark. Jace keeps losing his phone whenever he is over, and then is led on a wild goose chase to find it again. Also, no one breaches Magnus' loft with extra ghost protection, so no Iris messing with everyone at Max' rune party.

Harrow nova au thought (plus more thoughts later): if all the necromancer/cavalier pairs are swapped, the sixth and ninth houses will suffer each other’s fates.

So in the Ninth corner, you have Gideon Nav (Gideon Nonagesimus? Man idk), a self-sacrificing necromancer head over heels in love with Dulcinea, and is extremely upset about the big reveal. This is a recipe for some Very Bad Things to happen to our dear Griddle.

You also have Harrow Nova, who’s willing to do some unreasonable things to protect Gideon. This is a canon quality of hers, but here, it’s also been bred into her as Gideon’s cavalier. There’s no distance she wouldn’t go to protect her adept.

You might notice that this dynamic looks a hell of a lot like the Sixth’s in canon.

I think the way this would end is for Gideon to die fighting Cytherea (or maybe Loveday), and for Harrow, perhaps with myriad-old notes left behind by the OG cavaliers, to find a way to keep Gideon’s soul alive. Maybe she traps her in a river bubble (perhaps with a historical smut book), or maybe she does something else. Gideon is confused and hurt that Harrow won’t let her die for her, but she’s Gideon! Harrow has to protect her, she’s Gideon!

Meanwhile, with the Sixth, you’ve got Palamedes- also madly in love with Dulcinea, also self-sacrificing, and now he’s a cavalier, so that’s to the max. He loves Camilla, too, he loves her with all the strength in his heart. And we see that one of his worst fears is her getting hurt.

And then there’s Master Warden Cam, who’s an odd case. The insane level of devotion that makes her her might be applied to her House, but Palamedes would still be her number one. Permanently losing him would still be unthinkable.

And that’s a good recipe for a very bad start to Lyctorhood.

Palamedes tries to appeal to “Dulcinea” after Gideon is found dead, and the Sixth gets attacked for its troubles. Camilla’s badly injured, and Palamedes is angry- angry enough that he pools his thanergy and explodes himself, catapulting Cam to Lyctorhood. Between that and Cytherea’s (or maybe Loveday’s) weakened state (turbo cancer), Camilla has no trouble beating her, but her grief is almost enough to make it not worth it. And the prospect of immortality doesn’t balance it out if it’s without Palamedes.

It makes sense- switch around dynamics, and the possible outcomes are going to change. The devoted necromancer of a self-sacrificing cavalier will go unwillingly to Lyctorhood, and the devoted cavalier of a self-sacrificing necromancer will carry their soul to the end of the earth.

The Fourth and the Fifth switch. Baroness Jeannemary Chatur and Sir Isaac Tettares are killed shortly after their shared birthday party. Isaac is fourteen, Jeannemary is fifteen. Lord Magnus Quinn and Sir Abigail Pent are heartbroken, but they don’t stick around much longer either. Abigail and Harrow have some version of the “why’d he have to get stupid now” conversation. (Also I need you guys to know that this Abigail is a weapons nerd who can use pretty much every offhand under the sun)

The Third is less swapped than it is rotated. Coronabeth is a flesh adept who ends up a semi-reluctant Lyctor. Ianthe is her twin and cavalier primary, who dies for her sister’s ambitions quite willingly. Naberius is their cousin who would’ve been sent to the front lines if he hadn’t claimed to be necromantic, but is left out of the twins’ scheme and captured by Blood of Eden along with Harrow. (You also need to know that Corona cuts off Ianthe’s hair to use it as a weapon and grows it back later)

Captain Marta Dyas is an extremely competent necromancer with accolades upon accolades and a great Trentham education and a brilliant future in the Cohort. Lieutenant Judith Deuteros is her cavalier whose dad is a fleet admiral. They work together very well, and though Judith does get her ass kicked by Palamedes in a duel, she holds her own against Teacher for long enough that Marta can escape. Marta gets captured by Blood of Eden along with Harrow and Babs, which is very good for her blood pressure. (Marta and Babs do not have an As Yet Unsent romance. She has a boyfriend back at Trentham. She gives him romantic advice.)

Duke Protesilaus Ebdoma of Cypris is a sick necromancer who’s realized he doesn’t have much time left. He’s taken a new cavalier to make his last days more comfortable- Miss Dulcinea Septimus, just out of school and eager to prove herself. They, of course, don’t last very long- Dulcinea is killed and impersonated, and Pro’s body gets wheeled around with a wave of the hand and a “my adept’s not feeling very well.” (You also need to know that Dulcie dresses like she’s in Barbie and the Three Musketeers and has a stunning array of very cool hats with feathers)

Speaking of the murder of the Seventh, I’m not sure what to do with the Lyctors. It makes more sense for Cytherea to be the one to impersonate Dulcie, but also! It’s my roleswap AU and I want Cristabel Oct!!! She hasn’t got the intellect ordinarily found in a sandwich or an orange and I think she should be immortal!!!

The Eighth is also there. Silas’s offhand is a net. That’s all I have going now, I don’t know or care too much about them

1874 – Adolf Brand (d.1945) was a German writer, individualist anarchist and pioneering campaigner for the acceptance of male bisexuality and homosexuality.

Born in Berlin in 1874, Brand became a school teacher briefly before establishing a publishing firm and producing a German homosexual periodical, Der Eigene (The Own) in 1896. This was the first ongoing homosexual publication in the world, and ran until 1931. The name was taken from writings of egoist philosopher Max Stirner, who had greatly influenced the young Brand, and refers to Stirner's concept of "self-ownership" of the individual. Der Eigene concentrated on cultural and scholarly material, and may have had an average of around 1500 subscribers per issue during its lifetime, although the exact numbers are uncertain. Contributors included Erich Mühsam, Kurt Hiller, John Henry Mackay (under the pseudonym Sagitta) and artists Wilhelm von Gloeden, Fidus and Sascha Schneider. Brand contributed many poems and articles himself. Brand's writings, together with those of other contributors to Der Eigene, aimed at a revival of Greek pederasty as a cultural model for modern homosexuality.

Brand became involved in Magnus Hirschfeld's Scientific-Humanitarian Committee (the first public homosexual rights organization), until there was a split in 1903; that same year Brand led the formation of the Gemeinschaft der Eigenen organisation with the scientist Benedict Friedlaender as principal theorist, and Wilhelm Jansen. To this new group, male-male love, in particular that of an older man for a youth, was viewed as a simple aspect of virile manliness available to all men; they rejected the medical theories of doctors such as Magnus Hirschfeld who found that a gay man was a certain type of person, the intermediate sex.

The GdE was a sort of scouting movement that echoed the warrior creed of Sparta and the ideals of pederasty in Ancient Greece. The GdE was heavily involved with camping and trekking and occasionally practiced nudism - the latter then common as part of the Nacktkultur ('culture of nudity') sweeping Germany.

Long before the advent of the term, Brand was a proponent of "outing" politicians who publicly proclaimed anti-gay positions while privately practicing homosexuality. In 1904, he claimed in print that Friedrich Dasbach, a Center Party Reichstag delegate, consorted with male prostitutes. Dasbach threatened to sue Brand for libel, but they reached an out-of-court settlement. In 1907, Brand claimed in print that German chancellor Prince von Bülow (1849-1929) had a long-standing homosexual relationship with Privy Councilor Max Scheefer. This time Brand was brought to court on libel charges and was sentenced to eighteen months in prison.

Brand was also sentenced to two months in prison in 1905 for publishing allegedly "lewd writings" in Der Eigene. During World War I Brand and the GdE curtailed their activities for the duration; Brand served in the German army for two years and married a nurse, Elise Behrendt. After the war the enforcement of Paragraph 175 slowly declined.

The GdE and other groups formed a united 'action committee' with Magnus Hirschfeld's group, to formulate a new law. In 1925 more groups joined and the larger Cartel for Reform of the Law against Sexual Offenses was formed. Despite a new law being drafted, it was not voted on, and by 1929 there was no further chance to reform Paragraph 175.

Adolf Brand gave up homosexual activism in the early 1930s, after constant harassment from the Nazis who silenced Der Eigene, destroyed his life's work and left him in financial ruin. After the sacking and burning of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, he finally sent a public letter to his followers announcing the end of the movement.

He and his wife were killed by an Allied bomb on 2 February 1945. He was 70.

1906 – Albrecht Becker (d.2002) was a production designer, photographer, and actor, who was imprisoned by the Nazi regime for the charge of homosexuality.

Born in Thale, Germany, he trained as a teacher. At eighteen he began a relationship with an older man that lasted ten years. He was an actor and production designer. His partner was the Director of the State Archive in Würzburg. Through this contact he met an array of influential and artistic people. He traveled around the world and developed a lsense of culture and sophistication.

He devoted himself completely to photography. While living in Freiburg and Vienna he showed his first exhibitions and earned his first commissions. He supplemented his income by providing photographs for newspapers and magazines.

Würzburg is a small town in the southern state of Bavaria. Living in Würzburg in the 1930s was a Jewish wine merchant by the name of Dr. Leopold Obermayer. Obermayer apparently complained to the local police department that his mail was being opened. The complaint was investigated by the Gestapo, who took the liberty to search Obermayer's home and discovered a number of photographs of young men in his safe. One of these photographs was of Albrecht Becker. Becker was brought in for questioning in 1935 on suspicion of violating Paragraph 175. Becker reportedly declared: "Everybody knows I'm a homosexual." Both Obermayer and Becker were put on trial. Becker was sentenced to three years in prison at Nürnberg. Obermayer was also convicted of violating Paragraph 175, but as a Jew was sent to Dachau. He was tortured there and sent to Mauthausen, where he died.

Towards the end of the war as the need to replace losses increased Becker was released in order to serve in the Wehrmacht. He served on the Russian front until 1944. Becker spoke of his experiences during the war in the 2000 documentary Paragraph 175.

1908 – (Joseph Raymond) Joe McCarthy (d.1957) was an American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957. Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public face of a period in which Cold War tensions fueled fears of widespread Communist subversion. He was noted for making claims that there were large numbers of Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers inside the United States federal government and elsewhere. Homosexuals were particularly suspect of Communistic leanings.

McCarthy made accusations of Communist infiltration into the State Department, the administration of President Harry S. Truman, Voice of America, and the United States Army. He also used charges of communism, communist sympathies, or disloyalty to attack a number of politicians and other individuals inside and outside of government. Thousands of careers and lives were destroyed by his wild accusations

For a time, he was one of the most feared - and hated - men in America.

With the highly publicized Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954, McCarthy's support and popularity began to fade. On December 2, 1954, the Senate voted to censure Senator McCarthy by a vote of 67 to 22, making him one of the few senators ever to be disciplined in this fashion. McCarthy died in Bethesda Naval Hospital on May 2, 1957, at the age of 48. The official cause of death was acute hepatitis; it is widely accepted that this was exacerbated by alcoholism. There is no substance to the rumor the he, himself, was homosexual.

The term McCarthyism, coined in 1950 in reference to McCarthy's practices of demagoguery, baseless defamation, and mudslinging, was soon applied to similar anti-communist activities. Today the term is used more generally in reference to demagogic, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as public attacks on the character and/or patriotism of political opponents.

Stefano Gabbana (front) & Domenico Dolce

1962 – Born: Stefano Gabbana, co-founder of the Dolce and Gabbana fashion house, known for their sexy, glamorous women's clothing and sharp men's tailoring, all of which embody a distinctively southern Italian feel. Domenico Dolce's native island of Sicily, a place Gabbana had fallen in love with on holiday, became the bond between the two when they met in the early 1980s, when they worked for the same design studio in Milan.

Stefano Gabbana was born in Milan on November 14, 1962. Initially he went to art school to study graphics but soon transferred to fashion. In 1982 the two men left the design company where they were working when they met to pursue separate consulting careers, but they continued to share an office as well as a private life. After eighteen months, they decided to join forces and the Dolce & Gabbana label was born.

For some 19 years, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were partners in life as well as in business. Their personal relationship, which commenced soon after their meeting in the early 1980s, was well documented and they spoke freely about their home life as well as their business partnership in interviews.

Their clothes for men mix the same key elements of sexiness and traditional detail as do their womenswear collections. Just as they put women in "men's clothes," so they mix traditionally masculine elements such as the white singlet (much loved and worn by gay men in the summer of 1995) and pin-striped suits with overtly feminine designs in bright colors.

"It has nothing to do with sexuality or being gay," Dolce told The Guardian Weekend magazine, "It's just that we all have this side ... It's today's society that has made men and women so different. It's good to search inside and discover this small part of the other sex which is inside you."

Dolce & Gabbana's clothes are worn by a whole host of celebrities: Tom Cruise, Brian Ferry, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Isabella Rossellini, Demi Moore, and Nicole Kidman, to name but a few. They are known for donating clothes to and designing for stars they like. To those they do not like, they say "there is a shop."

By far their favorite celebrity is Madonna. "We love Madonna, so anything she asks we say yes, because we love the person, the style, the music--everything." Their admiration for Madonna is fully reciprocated. She is a very big fan of the duo, who are known in America as "the Italian designers"; she acknowledged their place in Italian culture when she stated "Now that Fellini, Rossellini, Pasolini and Visconti are gone, all we have is Dolce & Gabbana's neorealistic fashion."

In February 2005 Dolce and Gabbana broke up as lovers. According to Gabbana, they "had been drifting apart for about five years" prior to the split. The two remain friends and are still working together. Both say that they are committed to the ongoing success of their fashion house and that they plan to remain partners in the business even though they are no longer together as a couple.

1978 - Zoltan Voros (variously known as Zoltán Vörös, Zolival Vörös and Zoli Vörös) – is a leading Hungarian bodybuilder and occasionally a model. His regular occupation is security guard. Voros’ trainer is László Mazaga. According to both Polish Wikipedia and also the LGBT blog Fabulous Rainbow Stars, he is homosexual. He’s currently one of a few gay bodybuilders in Europe.

1980 – Brock Pierce, born in Minnesota, is an American actor best known for playing the title role in the Disney's First Kid. Pierce's first major acting role was playing a young Emilio Estevez in The Mighty Ducks. Pierce reprised the role again in D2: The Mighty Ducks. In 1994, Pierce had a small role in Little Big League, but did not receive his next big break until 1996, starring alongside Sinbad as Luke Davenport in Disney's First Kid. Brock landed a few TV roles in 1997, but they would be his last credited performances.

Pierce retired from acting in favor of producing, producing a show for gay teenagers called Chad's World. Pierce has hinted at his own bisexuality in an interview with Oasis Magazine, an online homosexual interest magazine: "I'm not, at the moment, seeing anyone, so whether it's a girl or a guy… I don't want to eliminate myself from seeing anyone, because I like all people."

Pierce began enjoying a lavish lifestyle in Los Angeles riding the Dot-com bubble with the Digital Entertainment Network. As an 18 year old, Pierce was making $250,000 a year and held 1% of the company's shares. After the collapse of the Digital Entertainment Network, Pierce fled the U.S. with co-founders Marc Collins-Rector and Chad Schackley after a number of former underaged DEN employees accused the three of sexual abuse, drugging them, and making violent threats. They were later dubbed by the New York Post as the "dot-com perverts." The three were arrested by Spanish police before being returned to the U.S. to face charges of transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts. Only Collins-Rector was charged.

Pierce is now a major shareholder in IGE, a well-known MMORPG gold-selling company, as well as the chairman of Affinity Media , a company which owns a variety of MMORPG-oriented websites, including Thottbot, IGE, Allakhazam, and OGaming.

1981 – Russell Tovey is an English actor with numerous television, film and stage credits. Tovey is known for playing the role of werewolf George Sands in the BBC's supernatural drama Being Human which started in 2008. In November 2011, Tovey announced he would be leaving Being Human to work full-time on his BBC Three sitcom, Him & Her. Tovey is also known for his portrayal of the character of Rudge in both the original London and Broadway stage version, and later the film, of The History Boys.

Tovey is gay. He says he came out to himself when he was 15 or 16, and to his parents when he was 18. Tovey and his father had a falling out over Tovey's homosexuality, and his father suggested that, had he known earlier, he would have asked Tovey to take hormones or undergo some other medical treatment to "fix the problem". Tovey says his parents were deeply concerned about the possibility he might contract HIV, which may have contributed to the falling out. The birth of Tovey's nephew in 2005 helped them mend their relationship.

In an interview with The Scotsman, Tovey said,

"The only thing I can give to young gay people is that when I was growing up there were no role models that were blokey, that were men. Everybody was flamboyant and camp, and I remember going, 'That's not me, so even though I think I am gay, I don't think I fit into this world.'"

In 2015, Tovey was the subject of public criticism from the LGBT+ press regarding comments he made about effeminate gay men. In his interview with Tom Lamont of The Observer, the actor stated that his schooling made him feel as though he "had to toughen up", going on to say "If I'd have been able to relax, prance around and sing in the street, I might be a different person now." Much of the criticism centered on what was perceived to be a passive criticism of effeminate gay men, with Tovey saying that "I thank my dad for that, for not allowing me to go down the path."  Tovey later apologized for the remarks.

Tovey was reported to be dating rugby coach Steve Brockman from early 2016. They became engaged in February 2018 but separated in June of the same year. They reconciled in August 2019 and, as of 2022, are still together.

1986 – Andy Herren is an American part-time adjunct professor of public speaking, most notable for winning the fifteenth season of the American reality television show Big Brother 15 (U.S.) in 2013. He is also the first openly gay winner in the show's history.

Andy won Big Brother 15 by a vote of 7-2 on finale night, only not receiving votes from Aaryn and Judd, becoming the first openly gay houseguest to win Big Brother.

1994 – China determines that same-sex acts are no longer to be considered a "social order" offense.

2001 – Egypt. 21 homosexuals arrested on the Nile "The Queen Boat" in Cairo, are convicted of "habitual practice of debauchery," 1 for "contempt of religion," and 1 for both. A 53rd man, a teenager, is tried in juvenile court and sentenced to 3 years prison and 3 years probation.
