Hi, sorry if this isn't the place to ask this, but what IS Maggot Bear/Russian Raccoon? I know you said it's something you won't do but I'm curious what it actually is!

It basically the Ship names for Soldier and Zhanna (Heavy's Sister) from the comic and i don't like it, already talked about it twice before why i don't like it and i don't want talk about it again 😠

(also, this doesn't mean i hate Zhanna, i like Zhanna as a interdependent character and i think she should be better off with Miss.Pauling more then Soldier)

Opinion on those ships you named:

1. Bushmedicine.

I, personally, am not a big fan of bushmedicine, and I know a number of people like it, but for me, I just don't see the dynamic, yk? Like, it's an insane, loud, experimental man, and a quiet, isolated, mostly laid back man together. I just don't really see that. (But that's just based off my perspective, I can see how people would like it, but it's just not for me)

2. Quick fix

Now, this one I don't like that much because it just makes me a bit uncomfortable, yk? Like, the personality difference is INSANE (at least to me). Scout acts more like a rowdy teenager and medic is more like an actual "mature" adult. It just makes me uncomfortable with the way I see those characters, with my perspective on this making me see it more like shipping student with a teacher, yk?

3. Bloody suit

Now, this one I was first introduced to when I first got into the tf2 fandom and whatnot, so I liked it back then. Now I realize how... weird it can get, (as if the other ones can't get weird as well) and I'm not as into it as I was, but I still enjoy it now and then.

And, no hate to these ships, I understand that people like these for their own reasons and if you like these, I ain't judging you, I just don't like the ship like you do.

Heavy wandered through the house he shared once with his sisters. He could see his teammates were watching something from the front porch. Walking out, he was just in time to watch his Doktor flip Bronislava over his head and slam her to the snow covered ground. Nearby Yana gave an enthusiastic cheer, telling Bronislava she did good. Zhanna stood up, and walked out onto the area as Bronislava stumbled out.

Yana patted the ground next to her and Bronoslava collapsed next to her.

"Bronislava did good. But mad Doktor did better."

"Da. Brother's Doktor might win this."

Confusion crossed Heavy's face as he left off eavesdropping on his sisters, and watched the last one square off with his Doktor.

"DOKTOR GOOD! BUT STILL HAS TO BEAT ZHANNA!"

"GIVE HIM HELL SWEETHEART!"

Soldier cheered.

Medic's teeth were bared in a snarl.

"I vill *vin* zis!"

And then Zhanna and Medic lunged at each other.

Heavy merely nudged Spy to get his information on what was going on.

"Medic asked for your hand in marriage and your sisters say he has to defeat them in combat..."

Spy dodges a boot that had been flung loose by Medic and Zhanna's fight.

"Medic is two for three. If he beats Zhanna, they will give their blessing."

it’s a good thing ASOIAF focuses on politics, because as soon as you get into the lives of normal people the worldbuilding absolutely COLLAPSES.

Roughly 90% of the population of medieval Europe were farmers, and the farmer’s lifestyle and culture is DEEPLY connected to the harvest cycle. You have the spring “rebirth” followed by planting season, then tending the crops through the summer, harvest season in the fall, and death/dormancy through the winter. It’s a very regular cycle.

But in ASOIAF summers and winters last years!! And they’re completely irregular!! HOW is it possible that farming, and thus the culture of the entire continent, looks the way it does when they can’t possibly be growing the same crops as us?? What would that harvest cycle even look like??

Take wheat, the classic English staple crop. We’ve seen ASOIAF characters eating bread, they HAVE wheat in their world. But how is that possible??? With wheat (not winter wheat anyway), you broadcast the seeds in the spring, they grow for a handful of months, and you harvest them in the late summer. In the wild this is when the seeds are broadcast by the wind to lie dormant through the winter.

Okay. How does that work when your summer lasts seven years?? Does the grass grow reeeeeealllly slowly? And if so, how do the people have anything to eat? Or does the grass keep growing and dying and growing and dying? That would at least give the people regular harvests. But it doesn’t make sense— the wheat would have no reason to die without winter. And how do the dormant plants survive winters that can be up to decades long?? How do the plants even know how to prepare for seasons that could last a week or a decade?? What’s going on???

I’m no expert in plant biology or medieval agriculture, but I know enough to know this system is absolutely absurd. And in a kind of frightening way. It’s almost as if authors these days forget to include agriculture in their fictional agricultural societies. Try to think of the last fantasy book you read that featured farming in a meaningful way. I can’t think of a single one, and I’m a big fantasy book reader. That’s super scary!

Before the Industrial Revolution, the vast majority of people were thinking about plants, animals, and harvest cycles ALL THE TIME! Just because YOU live in a society that’s divorced from its relationship with the environment and food production, doesn’t mean the characters in the book you’re writing would be!!

i think it must be important for writers to read an absolutely shit book every once in a while, that series of blog posts roasting game of thrones gave me a spark of worldbuilding joy long dormant

Summary: after eons of nurturing the world with fragments of your heart, you learn the truth. Every death, every rebirth, burns in your heart. And now you want to burn the world.

Rafayel:

He looks at the destruction around him, the fragments of a broken city, the wrath in your eyes.

You pace the room, your steps unyielding to the passage of time.

He has been awake with you for countless nights, his ears filled with the cries of his kin, burning, drowning in the boiling seas.

He tugs at your arm, pulling you into his embrace, his fingers threading through your hair.

"Why can I not be at peace?" you whisper, cupping his cheek. "All our enemies have fallen, but why is there no relief? Who else must I seek to bring us justice?"

"It is my fault... I should have prevented this," he murmurs, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "I should have never allowed it to come to be."

To watch you fall was his fall. To witness beauty drain from you was his failure. He has you back, but at what cost?

"But I will make things right," he whispers, pulling you closer.

"No more pain."

A gasp tears from your lips as his dagger pierces your back.

Your fingers clutch at his shirt, your blood soaking into his hand. "How dare you…" you seethe, your rage flickering even as your strength wanes. "I should have—"

Blood gurgles in your throat as he pulls your head against his chest, his shoulders trembling.

He would rather bear your hatred than lose your soul.

The cries of the world fade as a new one begins to take shape.

But all he can hear now are his own ragged sobs as he holds your cooling body.

Xavier:

"You have lost your mind!" Xavier’s voice is sharp, his fury barely masking the horror in his eyes.

He looks down from the castle walls, your castle now. Below, corpses rot on pikes, writhing with maggots.

Philos will never come to be. The world has already shifted on its axis.

You pin him to the wall, leaning him over the edge. "You will not talk to me like that, Xavier." Your voice is quiet, but the weight behind it is absolute. "This is my world. I may do as I please. It would do you good to listen, to stay as my consort, not the crown prince of Philos."

His breath hitches as he stares at you, searching for something, hesitation, remorse, restraint.

But you are resolute.

Your eyes soften at his distraught expression. Gently, you pull him back from the edge and release your grip. "Do not let this drive a wedge between us. I do not wish to lose you...I’ve only just remembered you." You press a kiss to his lips, warm, fleeting, achingly tender.

"This is merely a necessary cleansing," you murmur, as if explaining the weather. "A precaution, so the world understands the new order. So all who bled me for ages finally know what it means to bleed."

And so, bound by love, Xavier became a puppet to your wishes.

He waited for the new world you promised, sought desperately for the salve to soothe the wounds your changing forms left in him.

With time, he learned to ignore the mangled bodies outside the capital. The sunken faces beyond the castle walls.

He learned to be happy.

Zayne:

He never stands idle.

Not even at the first signs of your fall. Not even when the shadows lengthen, and the world begins to crumble at your feet.

He does everything he can to undo the damage.

He is a doctor, ridding people of pain is his purpose.

He funds revolutions, smuggles food and medicine, seeks to turn your heart away from vengeance.

But he does not leave you.

Not when you’re hurting. Not when the weight of the world fractures your soul. He stays, doing all he can to hold the world together before it collapses entirely.

For the first time in years, he prays to Astra.

He begs his god to aid the world.

Until you find his secrets. Until you strip him of the power you once gave him.

You lock him away in a tower, bound to you. And then...then, true helplessness sets in.

He watches his betrayal fuel your madness. Watches as your fury, once directed at tyrants, turns upon the innocent.

In the frozen chamber, you loom over him, his knees pinned to the ground by the weight of your power.

"Do you wish to leave me, Zayne?" Your fingers tilt his chin upward, forcing him to meet your crazed gaze. "Tell me, do you wish to escape?"

He does not flinch. His neck is littered with the climbing scars of his evol, of his futile resistance. It is all a proof of the turmoil within you, that settles upon his skin. He knows it better than any.

"No." His voice is steady. Resolute. "I wish to stay next to you."

He means it. Earnestly.

Even if your presence comes at this cost, he is willing to pay.

He has never wished to abandon you.

Not even at the cost of himself.

His days are spent treasuring the reality of having you back, of having your love.

What if zombies or other animate corpses just didnt even move like the living version whatsoever? I don't mean like they're all spooky jittery or scuttling, I mean like who's to say the reanimating force even cares which end is which or what legs are for? I'm saying what if zombies happened and it turns out they flop around like sea lions or even like stranded fish and it's faster than you'd think because they aren't held back by pain and the rot keeps lightening them. Eventually the limbs might wear away and drop off and they're acting like big wriggling maggots. Or they don't even understand how to move but they bury or hide themselves everywhere and wait to fold up all their limbs on you like a human corpse bear trap. Or I dunno, what if they roll everywhere? Tumbleweed style, hoop snake style, sideways like a hot dog, who knows. They're just sacks of putrid meat they don't need to imitate living behavior at all.
