larp art !!! that i’ve been meaning to share for a couple months now. this is briar! he is an archer/mage and part of his platoon’s reconnaissance division. he’s very friendly and trusting, though he grew up very sheltered and is quite naive, often having his head in the clouds. over the course of our campaign, he’s learned a lot about the world, including plenty of fear and tragedy! we have our last session next weekend and he’s determined to make sure everyone gets out alive. oh, and he’s a lycanthrope. so that’s been fun to rp.

also featured here are his late wife, rosemary, and a running joke we have about a nightmare blunt rotation with the antagonists, death, and two other vampires. this has been lots of fun, and i’m really going to miss this world and these characters when our gm graduates in june :’)

Okay blah blah whatever all serious analysis of Mai Trin and her untimely demise out of the room for a sec but I do wish that we had gotten more of her I wish she had lived a little longer mainly because I wish she had been in the scene where we find Canach and his stupid fucking midlife crisis suit like, okay okay they knew each other. They spent almost a year in prison right next to each other and you know I don’t think they liked each other and you know there’s an obvious sort of parallel between the two and how their lives have gone and what they’ve done in the past 10 years  and that could be interesting more importantly Canach did not like Scarlet, canonically, because she did not pay any attention to him when they were saplings.  Mai is as mention fucking haunted by Scarlet boom we have my deep desire to see Canach and Scarlet bite each others dicks off fulfilled that’s great but also like Canach definitely remembers her and I don’t think that Captain Mai “Oh... right, Dragon bash.” Trin has a damn clue about who the fuck Canach is despite having spent a year in prison together. And that would drive him fucking insane.

And that’s not even getting started on the fact that he’s running a nightclub on a stolen aetherblade ship and technically Mai can’t get mad about it because it is really useful right now and technically she’s not the aetherblade’s captain anymore but you know that she would be so pissed about it

as per tradition, this years art summary

i was under the impression that i tend to use the same colors, so was pleased to see that its not (always!) the case. this year i was most satisfied with my capitulation in actually leaning more heavily on references, and as a result, an overall elevation in background scenes and anatomy. i feel like my art has more dimension than it did last year. whoo hoo!

A diasomnia student posts "Find somebody that looks at you like how Malleus Draconia looks at his weird ass hobo of a friend" with a video of an obviously sleep deprived Yuu looking insane and rambling about how fucking mid modern architecture is and THE Malleus Draconia looking at them so lovingly and humming out little distracted "mhm"s like he's not really listening and just trapped in his own little world of Yuu and the next day Diasomnia student B is magicam famous and #MalleusAndHisHotHoboFriend and #HasHeHitThatYet? are trending everywhere.

Many a Pomefior student + Cater are now trying to lowkey stalk these two and rely back to the public because OH MY GOD! MALLEUS, FUTURE KING OF BRIAR VALLEY AND ONE OF THE TOP 5 MAGES IN THE WORLD.... IS VERY CLEARLY SMITTEN FOR AN ABSOLUTE MESS OF A (APPARENTLY MAGICLESS?!) HUMAN.

The dead manipulating the living and seeking a willing host in the form of an emotional mage sounds similar to what you could describe an overblot to be... what I want to know is how Briar Valley got this political system in the first place.

Food for thought:

Why hasn't Meleanor, who's already in her 300s before her death, ascended to be queen? Is it because they're waiting for Maleficia to die? Is it because Meleanor isn't as strong as Maleficia yet?

Or is it because Meleanor isn't easy to control? Because unlike Maleficia, Meleanor does not listen to the senate and does things her own way. Because she keeps a filthy bat they hate as her closest aide, because she married a radical who wanted the Fae and humans to coexist?

I want to reserve my judgments until we get explanations in Maleficia's perspective, but for now it's looking like the senate wants Maleficia, old and tired as she is, to stay in power because she has grown extremely weak mentally and is easy to manipulate. That's why they don't want Meleanor to become queen. That's why Meleanor moved out of the capital and built her own castle somewhere far. That's why they want to lock Malleus up in his little tower, because if he goes outside and learns of how the real world works and how disgusting their kingdom has become, they'll have to deal with a young and powerful radical who they would not be able to manipulate to their benefit.

Lilia did great in bringing out Malleus. I think Maleficia has faith that her grandson would be able to do what she couldn't, and that's why she at least fought for him to enroll in Night Raven College even when the senate probably opposes.

Honestly I think this will have a huge plot relevance in the upcoming Book 8 because you do not just introduce a detailed account on an entire country's politics just to trash it after Book 7. This book is extremely, extremely heavy in the sudden lore drop and world building that it would be disappointing not to expand on it and give it a satisfying conclusion.
