Top Ten Tuesday – Childhood Favourites (Freebie)
Hi friends, I’ve decided to start up with Top Ten Tuesday, I used to do this every week on my old blog and I thought it would be nice to get back into it. This week’s topic is a freebie and I couldn’t think of my own topic, so I looked back at the list of past topics and decided to do Childhood Favourites. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl (more…)

Book Readers of Tumblr, I need your help!
I’m looking for recommendations of children’s books with positive/safe adult characters.
There are lots of lovely Mummy, Daddy & Baby picture books, but once you get to a reading age of about 8, all adults in fiction become cruel and scary, stupid and incompetent, or offstage due to death or capture. I’m looking for books which have positive grown-ups, as main characters or in the background. Stuff like Magdalene Nabb’s Josie Smith and Frank Cottrell-Boyce’s Cosmic. International titles welcome!
If you have any ideas please let me know, and please share this post!

books of your life!
I was tagged by @oleander4 to list a few books - thank you, as always!
childhood book: The Enchanted Horse by Magdalen Nabb. A short, kind of sad story about a girl and a wooden horse she finds in a shop that comes to life. I still occasionally read it every few years; I’m never throwing it out.
reading list: I really want to re-read the Lord of the Rings trilogy; it’s been a few years. But I have about 30 books on my bookshelf that I haven’t read yet so they take priority.
recently read: Dead Man’s Land by Robert Ryan. The first of the John Watson book series about his later life after him and Sherlock Holmes have given up their life of deduction and parted company. It’s set during WWI when he’s in the RAMC as a field doctor. Robert Ryan is an incredible author.
I’m tagging @naevery @lifeisjuicy92 @irrationalgame and anyone else who wants to do it!

A few ideas, I don't know if all of these are illustrated but otherwise they seem to match:
My Book of Pony Stories (Gillian Baxter, 1991)
Stories of Magic Ponies (Susanna Davidson, 2007)
Usborne Illustrated Stories of Horses and Ponies
One of the many story collections by Christine Pullein-Thompson
Horse Tales (June Crebbin, 2005)
Side note, while trying to find books for you, I somehow rediscovered a childhood book of my own that I'd been trying to find for 15 years: The Enchanted Horse by Magdalen Nabb. So thank you :)
This is a dumb thing to look for in my 20’s but my inner kid wants it so I’m gonna find it.
I’m looking for a book. Specifically a children’s book from the early 2000’s probably even late 1990’s.
It was a single hardback book filled with a collection of beautiful (seemingly hand drawn) pony fairytales. Each page was so stunning and gorgeous that if I saw a single drawing from the book I’d recognize it immediately. The cover was a blue green with ponies that almost seemed like fairy ponies. I’ve tried looking it up or asking my mother if she remembers the book but she doesn’t cause it was nearly 20 years ago that we had it. The cover was embellished/embossed with silver and some of the pages also seemed to have a shimmer to them. But they were just bedtime stories, lots of them, this book was thick and tall, but filled to the brim with ponies.
Think similar to “My Magical Pony Tales Collection” by Nicola Baxter but prettier and even more in-depth
But that book means a world to my inner kid and I desperately want to find it again but I can’t remember any of the stories from the book. I can only remember the art.
It absolutely wasn’t my little pony or those weird human-animal shapeshifter books.

Death of a Dutchman (Magdalen Nabb, 1982)
OUTSTANDING BOOK! After weeks forgotten at my desk, I finally read the book. Thanks for leaving my life, college. A truly masterpiece for someone who loves investigation novels. Reminds me of the belgian writer Georges Simenon. Everytime I recommend some book people think I'm crazy because of my enthusiasm... But now it's true! It's a perfect book!

I Don't Know How To Read: Books from The Last Bookstore
So last Friday I went out with my darling other half to downtown LA, more specifically Little Tokyo which is such an awesome place to eat and hang out. But the highlight for both of us was the city gem known as The Last Bookstore which is quite honestly one of the few bookstores in the downtown area. And it is absolutely awesome.
The lovely trinkets that I was able to take back with me from the store were a variety of texts ranging from mysteries to science books. Instead of making you read my redundant descriptions, why not just look at these beauties below. Aren't they grand?
Of course these lovely compilations of paper will be without my warm touch for some time as my collection grows much faster than I can read it but ultimately they will be fixtures in my collection. Even if they go without reading for months to come, I still devoutly value them. Farewell fellow literature fanatics, I wish you all a healthy fix for the written word.
