they got fucking wormed half way through the game and became hard to look at so i changed their hair then they look half-decent (not as good looking as the default but still)

im gonna be sorta infodumping about their lore bc im insane for them

so in my canon Chevrotain isnt the dark urge like the origin character but another bhaalspawn, theyre still a bhaalspawn though so their gameplay is still a durge playthrough and this song is so accurate to durge's storyline?? like

i mentioned that Chevrotain is a cannibal 🥺 its funny bc they dont have any sense of taste, they also have a huge identity crisis thanks to Bhaal whispering to them on their "role" and they whole "you were created bc blah blah blah"

the theme i like to go with them is "starvation", like being starved of fatherly love from Bhaal, being starved of their own identity, being starved of their own mind, being starved of a home.. so this song fits into it SO PERFECTLY

GAH this song is so cool from the coolest musical i know (i only know like 6 musicals 🙃), its literally a musical podcast?? so cool.

anyways Chevrotain is a bard right, they usually manipulate people with their words, a lot of deception and persuasion bonuses, so they are a very deceitful and as a result they are a very distrusting person.

the song is about a girl who was raised to be a compulsive liar - when she accidentally broke her dad's ship in a bottle - her mom told her to lie to get out of trouble and it worked, so she kept lying and lying and lying to get herself out of situations.

the song ends with a near death experience, but all she can think in her dying moments is how her parents are going to lie about her existence just to avoid the hassle of dealing with her death.

the thing about Chevrotain is that they cannot trust easily - and what they fear the most is that theyd be tricked the same way theyve been tricking others - its a constant for them and this song embodies it perfectly (･ω･)b

iconic song tbh, this one isnt as intricately tied to Chevrotain's character quirks in my mind as the others and its more of their whole vibe and sthick

the tricking people into thinking theyre an unassuming bard even though theyre an experienced necromancer

and that they rebel against Bhaal pretty aggressively (well, as aggressive as you can when youre going against your literal God father without being punished by death 💀) such as never calling Bhaal as "father" pre-amnesia

5. The Milk Carton - Madilyn Mei

have i ever mentioned here that Chevrotain fell into the Feywild when they were around 9?

they were following a grinning cat named 'Alice Alice van Malice' who later became their guardian because fucking Ethel spotted baby Tain, took them in bc she realize that a bhaalspawn would make a strong hagspawn, since Alice didnt want to be responsible for a horrific fate of a child he decided to keep watch of them 😭

so this song is more to baby Tain's perspective, that they are now living in a stinky swamp in the Feywild and sleeping on a cold slab of stone instead of the cozy foster home they were in before..

I think I really miss my bed Oh when, oh when will the nightmare end? I had it good, I had it good And yet I left and can't retrace my steps Think I forgot a couple things My brain is still at home (Stop telling me all about your problems)

..but hey, at least theyre not dead!

Outfits/Style

Chevrotain's style is called classy and youthful in the DnD universe and timeline, but in todays world we call it grandmacore ❤

ok well it has a prince-like flare to it, the embroidery would be all silver bc one thing about Chevrotain is that theyre good at commiting to the bit, also the clothes beinf airy, flowy and puffy is important bc they dont like their clothes being skin tight bc they get uncomfortable easy.

its all billowy blouse + black pants combo bc its a classic and i love it SO MUCH, i eat this combo all the time everytime

Also side-note, I do have an unfinished April animatic to Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You because my The Last Five Years hyperfixation came back shskvcjsgfjd- I’m unsure if I’ll finish it cause it’s pretty old now but even if I don’t finish it I’ll still post the WIP!

also i am asking you for book recs. i haven't been reading a lot of proper books lately so any recs are welcome but i kind of feel like some fantasy would do me good. but like good ones? The last couple of years i've been picking up some popular fantasy standalones hoping they feel like a fantasy book you read when you're twelve and they end up being the most mid thing i've ever read. like help. i'm planning to read some robin hobb books so hopefully they're good.

ORLA!!!! i hope you are doing well too <3 one thing that is bothering me is school is starting again bc i have gotten virtually no break </3 also that apparently the english class i’m taking doesn’t have any required books i was looking forward to reading actual books not whatever mini readings ig they’re going to be giving us instead ☹️ also also that i did Not in fact get my license like planned this summer bc during the singular week i was home a bunch of stuff suddenly came up and it became no longer my priority and now i will need to renew my permit Again bc it expires in early september and im not going to be able to make it home before that so. <3

as for book recs!! i have tragically had the same problem lately re fantasy books and honestly mostly just books in general BUT i don’t know if you’ve read any ve schwab ive really loved what books of hers ive read. vicious was my favorite, but the monsters of verity duology better fits the “feels like a fantasy book you read when you’re twelve” vibe!

for non-fantasy recs if youre feeling poetry i reallyy liked margaret atwood’s morning in the burned house. also just finished hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy which was v fun! got many laughs out of me, i did not however know before starting it that it’s a series so now idk how to proceed bc i only have the first book agdjfk

OH ALSO fantasy shoutout to strange the dreamer duology 🫶🏻🫶🏻 lovely writing style and world, fascinating antagonist, i was not a big fan of the romance but otherwise big rec on that. definitely not for everyone tho some ppl find the pacing too slow, i remember when i first read it i mentioned that in my review too that it took a bit for me to really get into although i personally wasn’t bored in the meantime like others, i was just chilling enjoying what it had to tell me abt everything

MITSKI RECS!! i love strawberry blond sorry for being basic. square too but specifically square solo piano version which they took off of spotify (idk what you’re listening to her on). because dreaming costs money my dear is also a veryyy hard-hitting one. fond of circle, a burning hill, goodbye my danish sweetheart, nobody, washing machine heart, and class of 2013 as well. that was a lot i will stop now 🫡 also must admit i am quite behind on mitski’s recent releases so i can’t speak for any of her newer albums/songs. except for working for the knife musically it doesn’t hit as much as other songs of hers for me but lyrically it makes me go crazy

as for random music recs my most recently liked songs are unsweetened lemonade by amélie farren, army dreamers by kate bush, numb little bug by em beihold, would that i by hozier, the milk carton by madilyn mei, and comme des enfants by cœur de pirate. i have not really been “listening” listening to anything lately! though that will change in a few days with wisdom saga >:)

Tagged by the ever wonderful @dumpsterhipster! I’m procrastinating work, so let’s do this.

1) Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer.

I’ll be working out of state over the summer, but I’ll keep plugging away at The Mad Witch when I have time. Maybe I’ll finally get the first chapter of my Skyrim fic done too. I’ve had to rewrite the beginning twice, so third time’s the charm.

2) Rec a book:

It would be too predictable to say Gideon the Ninth, considering I have a whole Locked Tomb sideblog and am currently on my third (or is it fourth?) reread, this time in audiobook form.

Sooo I’ll recommend Echo After Echo by Amy Rose Capetta. Sapphic romance, murder mystery, and gorgeous prose—it’s one of my favorite books. Every once in a while I pull it off my shelf and flip through it, which often leads to a full reread.

3) Rec a fic:

I’m trying to pick a fic I haven’t recommended before. Actually, I think I’ll rec two:

For Fallout 4 fans, “Dead Man Talking” by Rad-Roche. It’s a Nick Valentine/Female Sole Survivor fic with its own take on both the main quest line and Long Time Coming. Leans heavily into noir and the pure existential crisis of being a synth, so it can get dark at times, but I don’t think it gets nearly as grim or explicit as the tags suggest. It’s Nick POV, so you can expect plenty of witty dialogue to balance out the tone. It is complete, with a sequel coming soon.

For HPHM fans, “You do not have to be good” by wheatieflakes. It’s both post-canon HPHM and post-canon HP where the characters are essentially living in the darkest timeline. The Order lost the war; most of its members are dead (including Jacob’s sibling) or in hiding. Penny is the main protagonist, but the POV is split with several other familiar characters. It is incredibly dark, and at times it made me so tense or anxious it felt like someone was pressing down hard on my chest (which might be because I forgot to breathe), so definitely not a light read. Incomplete and on indefinite hiatus, but it is incredibly well-written with absolutely fascinating takes on magic and Legilimency, so worth checking out.

4) Rec music:

The music I listen varies from moment to moment, but a song I’ve had on repeat lately is ��Sleeping in the Kitchen” by Madilyn Mei and Addison Grace.

5) Share one piece of advice:

If it’s after midnight, go to bed. The world won’t end if you complete your work tomorrow instead. You’ll do a better job if you get some sleep. If you’re worried about making a deadline, ask for help—either an extension or support. It’s better to take care of yourself than to destroy your own sanity trying to get something done.

11. Favorite comment you’ve ever recieved on your work?

Oh that's such a hard question bc I've gotten a lot of sweet comments over the years! But one that sticks in my head from recently is one of my regulars for my commissions commented that he's appreciated seeing my art improve over the years thru the comms themselves and it made me really happy! Like aw shucks, you liked my art enough then and continue to enjoy it more as I improve and grow?! Golly! Wow!!

16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc

Planning and composition can be so hard esp if I need to rope everyone into a background!! Once I've gotten past the sketch I can usually get on with things smooth sailing but oh the planning... for comic pages it's hard to get the panel layouts to look good, I still struggle with that a lot too.

23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?

Definitely lotta music and youtube vids and podcasts! There's definitely too many to list favorites properly!! but I'll just go through a small sampling of the more recent go to's

Dice Funk! I love Dice Funk theyre wrapping up their current season Rezubian this Sunday and I highly recommend that one it's a good goofy scifi adventure for ppl who like something of a star trek/spelljammer type setting. Ya Like Ilithids? come get em.

I've had AJR's new Album Maybe Man on loop. and by the album I mean Inertia and a handful of the other songs, tho they're all good!

I also continuously compile playlists for all my projects, like Runaway Drakaina, my DnD comic I'm chipping away at, concepts I'd like to work on someday... the RD playlist is 6 hours long and rn the most recent addition is Gone by Morning by Madilyn Mei

I have been slowly (slowly...) watching hbomberguy's donkey kong nightmare stream after seeing him share his side channel, like on and off when I want something really in the background. no paying attention head empty just listening to a man struggle with an old game while raising bonkers $$$ for a good cause

I like watching speedpaints where the artists really go into their process, ABDIllustrates and GinjaNinjaOwO are two big favs in that department! they inspire me a lot esp when it comes to character creation!

BobbyBroccoli got me to engage in a feature length documentary abt Nortel when I don't particularly care for the history of like... tech companies. so glowing endorsement he makes great docs abt tech/science related scandals

1. What song makes you feel better?

Honestly I have a playlist of a lot of lo-fi or soft indie pop songs that I would play when I got stressed that would help calm me down. Like Snail's House, Louie Zong, In Love with a Ghost, etc

Hmm hard to say, I have a few. I know I referenced Ghibli on the last one and Howl's Moving Castle was always top tier for me. I dont watch too many movies on the regular but you can't go wrong with Ghibli to warm you up.

3. Favourite feel-good show?

This is a toughy. I really liked The Good Place. I'm also a sucker for some animated things. Bee and Puppycat are way up there. The colors and visuals and styles are very cute and enjoyable. I had recently watched all of Adventure Time but while I loved it, theres a lot I would skip so I can't count that. So I would say for now one of those first two.

26. What movie would you want to live in?

I answered already but Kiki's Delivery Service. It'd be nice to just live in a small down working in a small bakery and living a nice quiet life doing what I love.

Okay, I don’t use Spotify, I only listen to music on Youtube, and I couldn’t decide whether to do this with one of the “my mix” playlists they make for me or with my 2023 Youtube recap. January: A Better Son / Daughter by Rilo Kiley (this song goes SO hard, man. the video that comes up in this playlist for it is the Adora-centered She-ra AMV I found it from, and yeah, it’s definitely an Adora song. it slso gets me really really in the feels about an OC of mine.)

February: Chosen Last by Sara Kays (autism, amiright? Sara Jays makes really good soft sad music that I really like to listen to when it’s sad boi hours)

March: The Last One by Maisie Peters (only recently discovered this one, it’s such a vibe)

April: Good Kid from The Lightning Thief musical adaptation (SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP ABOUT CTOMMY)

May: Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran (the only Ed Sheeran song I like. unless you count Galway Girl but NOT the original ONLY the Malinda Reese cover. anyways yeah I lowkey do vibe with and lowkey do get the feels from this song. also recently found a pretty good Zombieland Saga AMV of it, which is what got onto this playlist.)

June: My Evil Dreams from Sofia the First (OUGH this song. been getting in the feels again about this song and about Cedric and his whole character arc in general lately. MY EVIL DREAMS WERE MY FRIENDS WHEN I WAS ALL ALONE. MY EVIL SCHEMES MADE ME FEEL. LIKE I HAD A HOME. AND NOW THEY ACTUALLY CAN BE FULFILLED AFTER ALL THESE GOSH DARN FREAKING YEARS OF FAILURE AND HUMILIATION BUT NOW THERE’S THIS INNOCENT PURE-HEARTED EIGHT-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO ACTUALLY LIKES HIM AND IF HE DOES THIS SHE’LL BE UPSET AND LOOK AT HIM LEERING EVILLY OVER A CRYSTAL BALL SHOWING THE AMULET AND THEN SEEING SOFIA’S SMILING FACE APPEAR INSTEAD AND LOOKING LIKE HE’S IN PAIN AND SHUTTING HIS EYES AND TURNING AWAY LISTEN TO THE FREAKING BUILDUP OF THE BRIDGE WHEN HE CONVINCES HIMSELF TO GO THROUGH WITH THIS IT’S TIME FOR ME TO MAKE MY MOVE AND B E . July: Dress Like A Pirate by Madilyn Mei (one of a handful of songs by Madilyn Mei that reached deep into my soul where no other song ever has.)

August: Jubyphonic’s english cover of Sweet Magic by Junky (why for AUGUST???? it’s on my CHRISTMAS PLAYLIST)

September: My Heart Is Buried In Venice by Ricky Montgomery (another recent discovery on my part. nice when i want to listen to something calm and maybe a bit sad but not very very.)

October: Hiding In Your Hands, scrapped song from Dear Evan Hansen (more sad boi hours music <3)

November: Home For The Summer by Sara Kays (another big sad boi hours song <3 <3)

December: July by Lyn Lapid (recent addition to the list of songs I often listen to at sad boi hours <3 and I guess both of the final months of next year will be very much about nostalgia and missing people shfahfau)

YEARLY RECAP

January: Spooky Scary Skeletons spookiest version by Jubyphonic (my favorite version of this song and the only version I will listen to. if you haven’t heard it PLEASE check it out PLEASE it’s the best.)

(I will note here for full honesty, Youtube is weird about shuffling playlists, it’ll go to a random song first but after that it will just go straight down the playlist as normal from there, you have to hit the shuffle button a second time after passing the first song so it’ll shuffle properly after that. The song it played after Spooky Scary Skeletons before I hit shuffle again was Eyes On You by Oh Geeez — and if you’re an Owl House or Amphibia fan PLEASE listen to them they do tons of insanely good fansongs for both of those shows — but I’m not counting that as the February song because we weren’t on shuffle for that.)

February: Annapantsu and Caleb Hyles’s cover of They’re Only Human from the Death Note musical (SO THEY PUSH AND THEY SHOVE- WITH THIS THING THEY CALL LOVE- ‘TIL THEY FAAAAAAAAAALL)

March: Centuries by Fall Out Boy (a classic. a banger. WEEEEE’VE BEEN HERE FOREVERRRRR. AND HEEEEEEERE’S THE FROZEN PROOOOOOOOF. IIIII COULD SCREAM FOREVERRRRRRR. WE AAAAAAARE THE POISONED YOUUUUUUUTH)

April: Warrior of the Mind from Epic (THE ENTIRETY OF EPIC SLAPS HARD and Warrior of the Mind neeever stops getting stuck in my head.)

May: Wool Over Our Eyes by The Stupendium (I really love The Stupendium. their lyricism levels are off the FREAKING CHARTS. they popped the FRICK off with EVERY SINGLE WORD of this one, okay, if you asked me for a favorite line or section of it I would never be able to choose because ALL of it is hecking GOD TIER man)

June: Painkiller by Aviators (gotta love Aviators. this is one of my favorites of theirs. STRAIGHT INTO MY HEART, I AM BLOWN APART, LIKE A BULLET TO MY BRAIN. YOU TEAR THE WORKD AWAY AND WHEN IT GOES TO [#%€£], I CAN TAKE A HIT, ‘CAUSE YOU’RE HERE KEEPING ME SANE. July: Go Tonight from The Mad Ones (listening through the soundtrack of The Mad Ones was a freaking SPIRITUAL experience, man. I do try not to listen to much to any if it to like wear it out or anything, but there’ve been maybe one too many nights I was feeling angsty and my mind went to this song.)

August: Mess With Mine by Oh Geeez (as I mentioned, they do really really good fansongs for The Owl House and Amphibia. other shows too a bit, they’ve done an Infinity Train one and a bunch of 2017 Ducktales ones. if you like those shows especially TOH and Amphibia SERIOUSLY, I BEG OF YOU, GO LISTEN TO THEM, I DON’T SEE HOW THEY’VE NOT BECOME FANDOM STAPLES LIKE LITTLE MISS PERFECT)

September: All Too Well by Taylor Swift ( A N G S T . P A I N . )

October: Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling ft. Lzzy Hale (gotta love Lindsey Stirling and her dubstep violin instrumentals and insanely cool looking music videos. and of course: SOMEBODY SHINE A LIIIIIGHT. I’M FROZEN BY THE FEAR IN ME. SOMEBODY MAKE ME FEEEEL ALIVE, THEN SHAAATTERRR MEEEEE)

November: Eye of the Universe by McKane Davis (I wouldn’t say it’s a sad boi hours song, though it’s not quite NOT one, it does get me wistful at the very least, but mainly it’s good for when i’m tired or need to get tired and I need calming songs.)

December: Rachie’s english cover of Unknown Mother Goose by wowoka (this one captures incredibly well some extremely EXTREMELY painful things I’ve been through and I listen to it when I want to relive that.)

OKAY. NOW TO TRY AND THINK WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ME NEXT YEAR.

January — I don’t think I will actually start the year off with incredible determination despite the incredible pain, but maybe I’ll get to do a lot of hardcore stuff with that one OC in that month! I hope so, that’d be fantastic. There’s also the possibility I might have some especially spooky-scary times, either in my brain or in my actual life.

February I will feel especially lonely and disconnected from everycreature. I may also ponder the nature of humanity.

March might involve some pretty epic things actually???? And/or much friendship and support. <3

April…it’s occurring to me both of the April songs are from musicals to do with Greek mythology, maybe I’ll get back into that some more. And/or I might have to deal with a kind of super hard painful crap that I haven’t had to for awhile. And/or I might gain the favor of a goddess. And/or I might get in the feels about this one blorbo of mine a bunch.

May might involve a lot of reliving the past. Like even more than I usually do mentally. Either in reminiscing or in…getting to actually go back to some of it, a place or some people at least. God I hope so. Also I might start a cult.

June… I guess I might have a crisis about much that I’ve been doing with my life at a very pivotal moment due to somecreature else’s positive influence? And/or it might be a time of some especially hardcore support. July there is a possibility I will be especially conscious of how boring my life is, maybe even enough to make actual effort to do something about that. There is also a possibility I will either experience a really really huge loss or I will be feeling all the loss I’ve already experienced especially hard (I am PRAYING it’s the second one if Go Tonight applies, please I can’t possibly lose anything else please).

August…well my aroace butt is NOT gonna be brewing love potions, so I’m gonna assume Sweet Magic indicates I’ll be feeling the need for Christmas things even though it’s summer for some reason. There is also the possibility of me facing down evil with a badbutt group of friends and kicking its hecking butt. FRICK yes.

September will be PAIN and SADNESS aplenty.

October I might get in the feels about the brokenness of my life and nocreature else seeing it. And/or I might be especially conscious of its monotony, and especially wanting to be broken out of that.

November I will be wistfully thinking of past times a lot. Even more than usual.

December might be more of that and also might be reliving specifically this one extremely horrible period of time (either reminiscing or…basically experiencing it again. i almost hope it’s the latter.)
