Danny Fenton being a grinch on Christmas is everything to me.

But the episode was a bonkers approach

Which is crazy because typically when one introduces a holiday episode centered on a cynic, they usually go through the process of helping them regain their holiday spirit.

Tragic event, estranged family or just plain dislike. Help to process those feelings, reaching outs, introspections, anything to help see Christmas in a positive light [again]

That, that doesn’t happen here.

And even if that was the route the episode took, it’s pretty obvious Christmas cheer can’t be brought back by nostalgia - ‘cause hey! This poor schmuck has no fond memories of Christmas, everything is overshadowed by his parents stupid arguments on Santa’s fucking existence

Ahem, anyway………

Danny? Danny is punished, although admittedly for something he did that was uncalled for, and he is put in a situation where any love he did have should have gone up in smoke

The fights he gets in only ends up framing him in a bad light, he has no control over the situation and it’s one inconvenience after another

The ghosts’ Christmas truce was probably his one actual moment of reprieve.

Other than that, he is given no actual reason to like Christmas.

But the reason he hates the holiday in the first place? Never addressed, never resolved, his parents stupid needless arguments over the existence of Santa will probably start up again like clockwork the year after

Can’t recall if anyone was actually understanding of that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up preferring to spend the holiday in the ghost zone

god I really wish tim was more willing to let the main characters get into conflict for longer than an episode.

because, yes, maddie acting as a sounding board/voice of doubt in buck’s queer arc is probably down to convenience from a writing pov, but tugging on that thread/turning it into something would be sooooo good. not only is there the obvious queer angle (does maddie have some lingering hang ups? or is it something else? is she projecting her own experiences with men onto buck?)

but because of how the buckley’s are sandwiched in between the other dynamics it could all boil over so deliciously. chimney/kenny fucking ate in buck begins and I’d love to see more of him stuck in the middle trying to balance his loyalties. doubly so this time bc he’s also friends with tommy. and even if the root cause was more nuanced than straight up homophobia (and I’d hope it would be) if that’s the assumption, would hen get dragged into it? would her old issue with maddie get brought up again? shit they could even bring josh into the mix! or let her have a conversation with athena about handling a late stage coming out from someone you love.

your 8 seasons in tim, let the girls fight a little, have everyone be awkward and on edge for a bit. it’s good for the ecosystem.

okay so, buck's dog, right?

rember how buck's apartment doesn't allow dogs? So what if... When he finds and connects that dog, he really really loves him and he just... kind of moves the dog into eddie's house. look, buck's already staying there, like, most of the time. So he just.... well he can't leave the dog alone more than he already does, can he? So it kind of leads to buck moving into eddie's big, empty house.

And, of course it's maddie who calls him out on his bullshit.

"Buck. You're doing the thing again."

"What thing?" Buck asks. Maddie just stares at him for a good ten or twenty seconds before sighing.

"You are living in eddie's house in the same way you used to live in abby's."

"it's different. you know my Loft doesn't allow pets and-"

"Buck. you are using that dog as an excuse-"

"No, maddie, It's different. and His name, is ace."

"Why?" She asks, raising her voice slightly. "Why is it different??" Ace starts to get shifty, changing where he's standing to be in-between maddie and buck. He doesn't like them fighting.

"It's different because ABBY WAS MY GIRLFRENID." Buck shouts slightly. It comes out louder than he meant, the harsh sound bouncing off the walls. "Abby was my girlfriend... and eddie isn't 'my' anything."

And suddenly everything is blurry, and buck's breath is caught in his chest, and everything feels wrong and tight... and he's in maddies arms.

"He wasn't ever... we didn't... He was never mine." Buck tries explaining, but maddie is just shushing him, guiding him to the floor and holding him as he cries. Ace comes over to lick his face, and he lets himself feel sad.

Eddie straightens from lacing his shoe. “‘Course,” he confirms with a nod and a toothy grin. “See you at seven.”

“What’s, uh,” Buck asks, eyes bouncing curiously between the two, “what’s at seven?”

Chimney and Eddie share an amused glance.

“I’m stealing your husband,” Chimney taunts, grinning wickedly at Buck. “You better be scared.”

“It’s just the baseball game, Buck,” Eddie says, rolling his eyes at Chimney.

“Which you cannot come to,” Chimney interjects, pointing accusingly at Buck. “This is a brother-in-law spinoff! No Buckleys allowed!”

You can see how much of a stimmy boi Tails is when Tom and Maddie express how much they're enjoying the peace and quiet before GUN shows up, what with him wiggling his head, feet and tails a bit compared to how still Sonic and Knuckles are, with the exception of Knuckles examining his burnt marshmallow and Sonic glancing at Tom as he's talking
