Are there any old fics out there that that deal with Bruce and Tony angst during or around Age of Ultron? Like they keep getting into fights and it feels like a knife in the heart?
If you know anything remotely similar please send it my way.

"Hey, Bruce," You call, running after the scientist as he rushes through the med bay, tablet in hand. "Bruce!"
"What's up, Y/n?" He asks, turning to face you. "Are you gonna ask if they've reconnected to Loki's comms again?"
You let out a breath. "How did you guess?"
Loki - your extremely loving partner - was sent on a mission earlier today along with some of the other Avengers. It's often for you to continue work while he's away; a usually vain attempt to distract your mind from the dangers he could be in.
"Yes, they reconnected a few moments ago. He's alright," Bruce's reassuring smile lifts a huge weight off of your shoulders. "Nat said he-"
Bruce is cut off by an urgent-sounding noise on his tablet. He taps a few times before speaking.
"Hey Tony. Everything good?"
A crackly voice leaves the device. "No... Clint i- injured... retur- base."
"Got it. Get JARVIS to send me the details."
"Will do, over... ou-"
The call ends and Bruce visibly tenses. "Y/n. Go prepare and meet me and the team in Surgery 2."
Your relief instantly fades away to jittery nerves. You nod and turn around, quickly heading to grab your scrubs.
The pace around you picks up as word spreads over the incoming Avengers - no one is entirely sure how bad Clint is injured, but Bruce fears the worst. It doesn't take long for you to prepare - your hands are washed, scrubs, gloves and an apron are on, a disposable mask covers your nose and mouth and your hair is tied up tightly.
You file into the room with the rest of your team and begin setting up the equipment, readying supplies that will likely be needed. The thought of Loki niggles at the back of your mind. You're annoyed you can't meet him on the landing pad as usual. But it's not like him to just... disappear in the middle of a mission. Something must have happened...
You attempt to push the thoughts away. Your top priority now is to take care of Clint; to make sure he survives.
"The Avengers have landed in the Quinjet. Dr Banner says to be ready," JARVIS' mechanical voice rings down from the ceiling; you take a deep breath and ready yourself to do what you do best.
Bruce and the porter wheels a sedated Hawkeye into the bay; everyone gets to work straight away, Bruce overseeing the procedure.
It takes over two hours of surgery. Clint had lost a lot of blood from cuts and bruises everywhere. His worst injury, however, was a large piece of debris wedged in his lower abdomen - it took a lot of effort to remove the debris without causing any extra trauma. With some donor blood in his system and a few stitches here and there, the surgery was concluded and Clint was wheeled to a bay to come to his senses.
"Well done Y/n, you did good in there," Bruce congratulates, offering a smile. "Have the day off, you deserve it. I'll get one of the others to do the paperwork,"
You sigh quietly, happy to have some time off. "Thanks Banner. Don't overwork yourself! I'll come check on Clint later today."
"See you later,"
You turn and walk out of the Med Bay, the doors swinging to-and-fro before shutting behind you. Your gaze floats around the empty corridor, looking for a certain trickster God - sometimes he loiters outside the Med bay while you're in surgery, waiting to make sure you're okay. But today he's no where to be seen.
You shrug it off. He's just been on a mission and is probably exhausted, so he'll likely be in your room; or his, if he's not feeling the best. You take the lift up to the living quarters, skipping the common room and heading straight to your room.
"Hey Lo-" You push the door open, but your bed is empty; the bathroom door open. The room is eerily silent, and somewhat cold. Something feels... off.
You walk over to his room and knock twice - there's no answer. So, you walk right in. Loki never minds about you being in his personal space, so why would today be any different?
"Loki? You in here?" You hear a scuffle behind the closed bathroom door. "Loki?"
"Yep, I'm in the bathroom," He responds, his voice muffled by the separation between you both.
"Are you okay?"
"Fine!" He says much too quickly. Your eyes narrow with scepticism.
He bursts from the bathroom, the door crashing against the wall from his strength. He winces, a lopsided grin creeping on to his face.
"I'm fine," He repeats.
"For the God of lies, you really are a bad liar," You move forwards, rising onto your tip toes and gently angling his face down so you can analyse it.
"Uh, that's rude," He mumbles as you move his face this way and that, scrutinizing every part of his pale complexion for so much as a scratch.
Loki understands what you're doing almost instantly, his eyes rolling playfully.
"I'm fine, darling. I promise,"
You release his face and look down at your feet. "I'm sorry, I just... what happened on the mission? Bruce said your comms had been disconnected and... I panicked I guess."
Loki would typically tilt your head up with a singular finger and promise you that he was fine; that everything is okay. But today he doesn't. He stands silently - you can hardly bear it.
You hold your arms out and envelope him in a big hug. He doesn't return it straight away, what can only be described as a shudder flowing through every inch of his body.
Pulling away just as his arms try to snake around your waist. Your face contorts into one of worry, a small hint of hurt shining through your façade.
"Are you sure you're alright, my love?"
He nods somewhat sombrely.
"You know what?" He speaks. "I just remembered I have to feed the horses,"
Loki's eye twitches almost unnoticeably at his mistake - his lie is clearly one he's told many a time on Asgard.
"Feed the horses, huh?" You can't help but smirk slightly.
"It's a metaphor," He clarifies, pulling himself together and looking as if he hasn't just told the worst lie in the entire multiverse. "I have to go make sure Thor has enough pop tarts."
You hum in suspicious acknowledgement as Loki begins edging towards the door.
"Sure, sure."
"I'll see you later, darling." You're about to ask if you can come with him, but he's gone before a single syllable has left your lips.
The room around you feels much too quiet without him, and much too lonely too. What is up with him? Did he see something on the mission that bothered him? Or is he deliberately trying to hide something from you?
It's often that he's a terrible liar in front of you - despite his title - due to an unspoken rule he created, likely near the beginning of your relationship. It seems he vowed to himself never to lie to you, hence meaning that when he does lie they come out twisted and blocky, not smooth like his deceit towards anyone else.
You're unsure of what to do with yourself, but end up deciding to take a shower to ease away the stress of the day. By the time you've finished and spent time drying your hair, you're sure Loki will have finished... 'making sure Thor has enough pop tarts'.
~★~
"Hey Thor, Nat. You seen Loki?" You ask as you wander into the common area, feeling refreshed and a little less tense.
"No, Lady Y/n. I apologise, I last saw him as we departed the jet of the quills earlier today."
You share a look with Nat, trying your best not to laugh.
"Thor, it's a Quinjet." Nat emphasises, rolling her eyes and barely concealing a smirk.
"Yes, that's exactly what I said, Lady Natasha. The jet of the quills." Thor beams like a toddler with candy.
Nat audibly sighs. "Sorry Y/n, I haven't seen him either."
"No worries." You mumble, looking around the room rather hopelessly. "You don't happen to know what happened on the mission with his comms, do you?"
Nat purses her lips for a moment. "It was just a lost signal. I don't think anything actually happened."
"Huh. Okay," Your brows furrow. If nothing happened then why does it feel as if he's avoiding you? You must just be overthinking it. "Thanks."
"You alright?" She adds.
"Uh, yeah-" The lift pings and you hear the doors slide open.
"Ah, brother!" Thor exclaims. "Your lady was just asking after you,"
You turn to see Loki in the lift, an unreadable look on his face.
"There you are! Where have you been?" You ask, your face breaking out in a smile.
"Oh, me? I was just on the balcony enjoying some fresh air." He laughs nervously.
"You were?" Nat asks, shooting you a look. "I was up there a few minutes ago,"
"Oh you were? We must have missed each other." Again, he laughs.
You try to shake away the hurt and confused feeling that has seeped into your soul. "Well, no matter. I have the day off so we could spend it together if you like?" You ask him.
Loki sucks in a breath. "I really would love to, darling, but I have to go fill in my mission report. Maybe later?"
You feel your shoulders sag, but you don't let your expression show your disappointment.
"Talking of which, how did the mission go? You usually give me a very detailed analysis." You say, waltzing into the lift alongside him.
"JARVIS, take us to the living quarters," Loki says to the ceiling and watches as the lift doors close once more. "It went okay, average really." You nod as the doors slide away to reveal the corridor to your rooms. "I shall see you later then, my love,"
Loki takes your hand in his and brings it to his lips gently, then turns and exits the lift.
"Uh, not so fast, Romeo," You call after him, fed up of his anticks. He's clearly avoiding you - and something is clearly up.
You stride over to him; he takes a few steps back until he hits the wall.
"What is up with you?" You ask, jabbing a finger at his chest. He winces.
Your eyebrows twitch with confusion. Why did he wince?
"Nothing is up, my love." He elects not to say more, you guess because he's lying. Again.
Deciding to take matters into your own hands, you place your hand experimentally on his chest. He attempts to hide it, but he definitely flinches.
"Look, I must get on with my work. I promise I shall treat you to dinner tomorrow when it's all done," He grins and slips from your grasp, sauntering into his room.
"Nope," You say defiantly, following him. "You're going to explain to me why you're avoiding me. And I'm not leaving until you do."
"Avoiding you?" The door clicks shut behind you. "Y/n, darling. Don't be so silly."
"Are you calling me crazy now-" You cut off, catching a glimmer of crimson in the sink through the open bathroom door.
"Of course I'm not call-" Loki also stops, noticing what you're making a run for.
"What is this?!" You ask, holding up the bloody rag you found in the sink.
Loki swallows, biting nervously at his lower lip.
"I assure you, it's nothing."
"Don't play this game with me, Loki. What's going on?"
He sighs dramatically. "I merely gained a scratch while on the mission,"
"A scratch? Show me then,"
"I really don't think that's nec-"
"Show me," You interrupt, your tone harsh.
Loki gives in, wincing as he pulls off his shirt. Beneath lies a myriad of scuffs and scratches, some deep enough to still be oozing blood, others just red and angry. You move forwards, fingertips ghosting over the worst gashes as your face betrays your emotions.
Looking up into his eyes, you notice the spark of guilt dancing around - yet you ignore it.
"Why didn't you tell me!? Gods, Loki, this could get infected... look how much dirt there is!" Huffing, you point to the bed. "Lie down."
"I'm sorry, Y/n. I just didn't want you to worry. You worry enough as it is." You ignore his comment, filling up a bowl with warm water and finding a fresh cloth. You bring it into the bedroom and place it on the bed next to him, dipping in the cloth and wringing it out.
"This might hurt," You murmur, gently dabbing at the wounds. Loki's muscles flex, his jaw setting with pain as you clear up the grit and blood.
"The comms cut because of this," Loki starts, speaking as if he owes you the explanation. "There were too many on me and they knocked me to the floor. I skidded and somehow broke the device. I had to fix it with my magic, but it took a while because I had to rid myself of those imbeciles,"
You don't respond straight away, continuing to clean him up.
"And how did no one notice during the subsequent medical exam? Or did you somehow manage to dodge it?"
He chuckles softly. "You know me too well. It was actually very easy to dodge it without you around. Speaking of, how did Clint's surgery go?"
You yawn, tiredness from the day creeping behind your eyes and into your mind.
"It went fine. He's in recovery now and will be on bed rest for the next day or so,"
The cuts are all clean now; you place the rag in the now bloody water and grab a medical kit to place strips over the worst gashes.
"You really are amazing," Loki murmurs, more to himself than you.
You can't help smiling. "And you would be amazing if you didn't hide your injuries from me,"
"I'm sorry my love," He replies.
Now finished with your job, you lean over and press a gentle kiss against his lips.
"You're forgiven," You get up and begin putting everything away, flashing a smirk in his direction. "Although I do still expect that dinner tomorrow night,"
"I wouldn't dare miss it." He grins.

What do the Avengers think of Cody after discovering that he has Thor's hammer?
Thor: He is going to be very confused as to why a human child was able to lift Mjolnir and why the kid has a monstrous appearance when he transforms. At first, Thor's goal would be to get back his hammer at any cost, thinking before meeting Cody that he would fight to get Mjolnir back, but got shocked when Cody accepted to return the hammer at the first request… thought, the hammer would not obey that request.
Wasp: she would love him! Wasp would just see Cody as the cutest thing in the world. Since the appearance of the boy is of a fluffy griffin it would be very hard for Wasp to resist petting him. Thought, she wonders why Cody doesn't have wins when he is a griffin. Still, Wasp is willing to help Cody and protect him from any villain who wants to harm him (Morocco is shaking in the background).
Ant Man: ¨kid, where are your parents?¨ Probably the most worried of the team because of the fact that the one who wields a weapon from the gods is a 10-year-old kid. Thought, he is surprised at the level of empathy and stubbornness the kid has when facing problems. But gets very worried when he learns that there's an immortal English man looking to kill the kid, an extravagant hunter who wants the kid as a trophy, a rich lady (that might not be human) in the position of some dangerous tech that also wants to kill the kid… and a crazy girl whos hair looks like bacon that wants to trap the kid and sell him to whoever pays the better… also some Gods and Monsters, but in this situation the humans are scarier…
Iron Man: well, the kid did say he would return the hammer, so mission accomplished! Well, nop! The hammer doesn't want to cooperate and is having a tantrum. This also mostly involves ¨magic¨ so Tony would have a harder time understanding what is happening 70% of the time… well, at least with the Greene family Tony can have a space to share his ideas and be as creative as he never could! It is kinda nice, and the daughter of the main scientist is really smart and shares a lot of Tony's style… but who is the little girl dressed in purple who has been following him!??
Captain America: totally vives with the kid and sees a bright future for him with and without the hammer! Thought, Steve does agree with Hank in the fact that a child so young should not be involved in dangerous situations, and should not be wanted dead by villains! But sees too how the boy's tenacity has helped so many on the island.
Hawkeye: ¨Man, what a disappointment, I thought that we were going to fight Loki or a giant…¨ Clint says before Wasp punches him in the face…
Hulk: ¨too small to fight…¨ it means that Cody is still too small to punch. Hulk needs an opponent as big as Wasp to punch! Well, it actually means that Cody is too nice and offered Hulk food so the kid is safe…
Bruce Banner: ¨… what Hulk said¨
Black Panther: [starts a secret investigation on the whole Griffin Rock island and takes a deep look at the Burns family] Quickly Cody catches him doing that because the kid has the eyes of a falcon and 100 cameras working full time! Actually, very impressive. T'challa was really caught in surprise when Cody caught up in his tricks to access security and was more surprised when the child was not mad at him, and much much surprised when Cody asked him if he wanted to check something in particular on the main lab computer…
Did I forget someone???

Author notes: Hope you like this.
<<Part 2
⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️
Transformation
The four of them were in a staff car, Colonel Phillips, and Bucky Barnes in the back, Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers in the front, heading towards a secret installation.  In the trunk, inside a strong case, was the supply of serum that Steve and Bucky liberated from the German concentration camp.
"You know, Dr. Zola asked to be there when we put you through the treatment," said Phillips.
Bucky looked at him, surprised.
"You told him no, didn't you?"
"No, I said we could come to some sort of arrangement," he answered, then he smiled.  "I lied.  There was no way in hell I was letting that mad scientist anywhere near you, Sergeant.  Has your voice indicated anything about their arrival?"
"No, I told him where we were going, and he said they would be there."  Bucky looked out the window.  "Thank you, Colonel."
"For what, son?"
"Believing me.  I didn't think anyone except Steve would, but you and Agent Carter did.  I just hope that the treatment you used for him works for me."
"I had my doubts about Rogers," admitted the Colonel.  "I always thought we needed the strongest, meanest sons of bitches to defeat the Nazis, then HYDRA.  But Dr. Erskine proved that you need the right man.  From what I know of you and Captain Rogers' personal history, you're two of a kind.  I think you'll be just fine, Sergeant.  I believe that you are the right man."
He nodded his head at Bucky then looked out the window.  Bucky looked at Steve, driving the vehicle and Peggy sitting next to him, looking at him.  Every so often Steve would look at her in a way that Bucky knew meant something.  They were in love.  That was certain.  He smiled then looked out the window himself.  Never did he ever think Steve would find the right girl before he did.
"Turn right at the next crossroads," said the Colonel.  "Then turn left at the sign that says William's Dairy Farm."
"Yes, sir," answered Steve, slowing down at the crossroads and turning right.
About a mile beyond that they saw the dairy farm, with black and white cows spread out on the lush green fields like something out of a painting.  A sign on the left indicated the next turn was into the farm and Steve downshifted, turning onto the gravel road.  As he pulled into the space between two buildings a man in farmer's clothes came out of one of the buildings, a barn, approaching the window on the driver's side.  By the time he reached it he had a gun in his hand.
"Colonel Phillips, Captain Rogers, Agent Carter and Sergeant Barnes," said Steve.
"Identification cards, please," said the man.  He looked carefully at all of them, then nodded.  "Drive inside the barn and leave the vehicle.  You will be shown where to go.  Mr. Stark is already here."
He stepped back, the gun mysteriously disappearing and Steve drove inside the barn.  They stepped out and he opened the trunk, picking up the case.  Two armed soldiers appeared from a doorway and approached them.  They waited for a moment then walked through another doorway which led to a hallway.  At the end, a pair of doors opened, and they entered what appeared to be an elevator.  The two soldiers stayed outside but closed the doors.  Slowly, the elevator descended until it opened into another hallway.  Two armed soldiers opened the doors for them, then escorted them to a single door and set themselves up to guard it.  As they entered the large lab, a number of technicians that Steve recognized from his procedure looked up then returned their attention to their work.
"About time you got here," said a loud voice and Howard Stark approached them, wearing a white lab coat.  He gestured to the box.  "Is that the serum?"
"Yes," said Steve.  "We took as much as we could, but Dr. Zola said we needed less."
"Yeah, well, I wouldn't believe him," said Stark.  "Based on the figure he gave the Colonel there was no way that amount of serum would do the trick.  I suspect he wanted to be here to watch you fail then offer his expertise, making up an excuse to get Sergeant Barnes off to a HYDRA lab."
"How do you know this, Stark?"  The Colonel was not amused.
"Because Dr. Banner here knows his stuff."  Howard gestured behind them.  They turned around to the sight of a large green skinned man in glasses and a lab coat.  "They arrived just after I did, directly into the lab via something they called a portal but won't explain to me.  Dr. Banner, may I introduce Colonel Phillips, Steve Rogers, who you knew in a different time, Agent Peggy Carter, and this time period's version of Sergeant Bucky Barnes.  The modern one is sitting over there watching all of us."
It was rather amusing to see how gently Bruce Banner shook hands with all of them.  His calm voice and manner surprised all of them.  Modern Bucky came forward.
"May I introduce you to the voice in your Bucky's ear, James Buchanan Barnes," said Bruce.
Younger Bucky stared at the older version of himself.  "How old are you?"
"By the calendar year, 108 years old," replied Bucky.  "Based on my memories of when I wasn't in cryostorage I'm about 39 years old.  It's good to see you again, Colonel, Peggy ... Steve."
"What's this about Zola's calculations being wrong?" asked Colonel Phillips.  "I thought I had him telling me the truth."
Bruce smiled.  "Truth is relative to a man like that.  We had the SSR records of Steve's procedure, including the dosage and that was with the serum that we consider the purest.  Zola's serum was based on the imperfect version given to Johann Schmidt and should be considered a copy of a copy.  You lose effectiveness at each level away from the original.  The amount he calculated for you wouldn't have been enough to lock in the serum.  Not only that, but it would also have resulted in Sergeant Barnes still being susceptible to brain reconditioning if HYDRA ever recaptured him, which is what we think Zola was planning.  It's a good thing you brought extra as we think we're going to need it all.  But first, I wish to examine Sergeant Barnes, height, weight, preliminary blood work, that sort of thing."  He noticed the look on their faces.  "I am an MD plus I have seven PhDs.  I worked on a super soldier serum myself, which is why I look the way I do as I didn't get it quite right.  I'm not inclined to allow anything bad to happen to Sergeant Barnes."
Bucky looked at his counterpart who nodded and he relaxed.  He and Bruce went to another room along with a nurse for his physical examination.  Stark took the box to a team of technicians who tested the contents of one vial then showed Bruce the results.  With his approval they began transferring the contents into a series of vials that were sized to be used in the pumps attached to the radiation chamber.  As he surmised, the amount brought was barely enough.  Only two of the original vials were still unused.
While Howard continued to work on the settings for the chamber, the Colonel, Steve, Peggy and modern Bucky relocated to where he had been sitting.  He offered Peggy his chair, which she took then leaned against the counter with his arms folded.  The Colonel noticed he wore gloves, staring at them.
"I fell from the train in my timeline," said Bucky.  "Survived the fall but lost my left arm in the process.  HYDRA gave me a new one, a monstrosity with only one purpose ... to kill.  When I finally escaped, I lost the arm in a fight with ... another individual who didn't believe I had been their weapon unwillingly.  I was given sanctuary in another country who undid the programming done to my brain and they gave me a new arm.  It's certainly nothing you would see now so you'll excuse me if I keep it covered to avoid contaminating this timeline.  Our presence here is doing enough of that."
"Why did you come then?" asked Peggy.
He smiled softly at her, amazed at how the real woman was just as beautiful as he remembered her.
"It was a lot to ask of your Bucky to believe me," he replied.  "When more of this timeline became known to us and we realized what Zola was planning, Bruce offered to come and oversee the procedure, being somewhat familiar with the details.  He felt uncomfortable coming alone, so I agreed to come with him.  Everyone here has to swear not to tell anyone of our presence."
"Why did you contact Sergeant Barnes in the first place?" asked the Colonel, his face stern.
Bucky sighed and looked away for a moment.  "Bucky will be needed to make sure Steve survives an upcoming mission.  Then both of them will be needed to join a multi-universe task force against a formidable enemy who threatens all timelines.  That's why we're doing this and it's also why we've been permitted to do it, with limitations.  That's really all I can tell you at this time.  It is for the greater good, Colonel and if it works, everything should continue as it would have, with the exceptions that certain individuals will have a different future, like Bucky and Steve, for example."  He shook his head, slightly dismayed.  "See, I almost said too much there.  Please, let's take this one step at a time and get Bucky through the procedure."
He walked away from them, relocating to another quiet corner of the lab and sat on a stool, avoiding eye contact.  After a few minutes he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes.  Colonel Phillips huffed a little, then asked a passing technician if there was something to drink.  The man led him to an office, pointing out the bar against the wall.  Steve and Peggy stood where they were watching the hustle and bustle of the people in the lab, while occasionally glancing at modern Bucky.
"He carries a great burden," she said.  "Whatever he went through in his timeline is with him still."
"Yeah," replied Steve.  "I'm just surprised that he hasn't said anything about me in his timeline.  What happened to me?  I would have thought with something this important I would have been involved, yet other than saying I was there, he hasn't said anything else."
She shook her head.  "You could ask him, but I don't think he would answer.  He's changed from the man he was.  It's sad, really."
As the time passed, they both relocated to the office, deciding to relax in the more comfortable chairs there.  They each had a drink, sipping it quietly.  Finally, modern Bucky appeared at the door.
"They're ready," he said.
The other three got up out of their chairs and came into the lab.  Younger Bucky was sitting on the edge of the bed portion of the radiation chamber.  His feet were bare, his shirt was off, and he wore a pair of loose hospital shorts.  Bruce was attaching some small strips to him, placing them in certain positions on his body.  He turned slightly as the others approached.
"I brought some modern technology with me," he said.  "These will monitor the changes he is undergoing inside the chamber from the moment the serum is injected through the application of the Vita-Ray radiation.  It will tell me if he has achieved maximum serum efficiency so that we don't accidentally overdose him with the radiation.  No offence, Howard, but your dials aren't the most accurate.  It was the technology of the time, but you could just as easily have killed Steve when you dosed him during his procedure."
Stark raised his eyebrows slightly.  "How will those little strips tell you all that?"
Bruce reached inside his lab coat and brought out a small device, calling it a tablet computer.  Immediately, Howard put his hand out wanting to examine it, but Bruce held on to it.
"Sorry, it's too soon for this type of technology and it only works because it is configured directly to these strips.  All I can tell you is that it will be about 50 years before society begins to develop this."  He looked at the younger Bucky with concern.  "It's going to hurt, a lot.  I know that based on what my timeline's Steve told me about this procedure and what Bucky told me of his.  Your treatments were spread out over months but were always accompanied by electroconvulsive therapy, which was applied at a level that we now consider barbaric.  But that was HYDRA.  They didn't care about hurting you because they were always pushing your limits to see how much pain you could withstand and how long it took you to recover from it.  It turns out that you withstood a lot.  The difference here is that the moment the monitors show that you are at maximum I'll signal to cut the radiation.  If at any point before then if it's too much for you, you can stop it, but we can't repeat it after.  This is an all or nothing procedure.  Do you understand?"
Bucky nodded then he smiled and offered Bruce his hand, shaking it.
"Thanks, Doc.  I wish more doctors were like you.  You explained everything and I appreciate that."
Bruce smiled at him and stepped away.  Steve placed his hand on Bucky's shoulder and nodded.  Peggy touched his hand and smiled at him.  That left modern Bucky standing there.  They had barely talked since their arrival.
"You can do this," said the older version.  "Bruce is a good man, and he won't let anything bad happen to you.  When you're done, you and I will go someplace quiet and have that drink.  I brought something special from the future that has a bit of a kick.  I think you'll like it."
"Okay, I have lots of questions," answered the young sergeant.  He looked past him at Steve and Peggy.  "Do they get married?"
He was puzzled at the flicker of pain that appeared in his counterpart's eyes then the older Bucky smiled.  "Yeah, they get married.  If you get through this and the next part, they can get married sooner."
He took the glove on his right hand off and shook hands with his younger version, then joined the others behind a barrier with a small window of thick glass at eye level.  A technician came, placing a pair of dark goggles over Bucky's eyes, then helped him lie down.  A series of pumps, attached to the larger vials they transferred the serum into lowered themselves onto Bucky's body.  There was one on each side of his chest, each arm above the elbow and below the elbow, and one on each of his thighs.  The lights were dimmed in the lab, except for a spotlight on the chamber.  Bruce, wearing the goggles around his neck, stepped forward and called out to each station, asking if they were ready to proceed.
"Bucky, we're going to inject the first batch of serum then switch to the second batch.  It's going to burn like hell but it's important that you stay as still as possible.  You good?"  Bucky gave him a thumbs up.  "Ready for first infusion of serum in three, two, one.  Activate the pumps."
The pumps began injecting Bucky with the first batch of serum.  Immediately, he could feel the increase in temperature in his skin then deeper as the serum was absorbed by his muscles.  The burning sensation started just before Bruce called for the second batch to begin.  As the serum was forced into his body, the sensation of burning alive increased exponentially and Bucky braced himself, clenching his jaw.  He became aware that the moving parts of the chamber were shifting into position to enclose him.  Desperately he filled his mind with everything and anything he could think of; baseball statistics, the plot of the last movie he saw, dancing with different girls at different dances.  When it became too much he yelled, and Bucky's voice sounded in his head.
"Steady.  They're just applying a hose to the chamber to increase the pressure while the radiation is applied.  You've got a couple of minutes more to do this and you can see it through."
The sound of a gas entering the chamber was followed by a sensation of being pressed into the cradle that held him then the chamber began shifting to an upright position.
"Radiation being applied now.  Keep your eyes closed."
Even with his eyes closed and wearing the goggles Bucky could see the light as it filled the chamber.  The pain levels amped up even more and he yelled for all that it was worth.  Then the light powered down and he could hear Bucky's voice in his head.
"It's done.  Bruce said you peaked exactly where he expected, and he stopped the procedure.  Just relax as they shut everything else down."
Breathing deeply, Bucky kept his eyes closed.  The pumps were pressed uncomfortably into his skin, then were suddenly released and raised as he felt the cool air of the lab flow over him.  He opened his eyes, but the goggles were so dark he couldn't see out of them.  Then a hand took them off and he blinked at the bright light focused on the chamber.  A chorus of murmurs audible to him were jumbled at first, but he could hear individual words then phrases as his ears adjusted.
"Perfect."
"Unbelievable."
"My goodness, he's magnificent."
"Buck?" It was Steve's voice, spoken softly, and he looked to his friend.  "Hey, how are you?"
"Not sure.  It feels strange, like everything is magnified."
"Yeah, your senses have increased.  You've grown as well."
Bucky looked down, noticing first of all that his legs were incredibly muscular but were in proportion to his now definitely longer limbs.  Steve offered a hand to him, and he noticed his forearm was also more muscular and the veins in his arm more defined.  When he stepped out of the chamber, he realized he was back to being taller than Steve again and couldn't help but laugh at that.  As he looked down, he was surprised to see that his physique was leaner in the waist but also more muscular in the chest and shoulders, and he definitely wasn't a welterweight anymore.  Bruce stood in front of him, making him feel small again but he smiled at the doctor.
"I'm good?"
"Yeah, perfect response," said the green-skinned man.  "The level of serum was enough, and you absorbed all of it.  In fact, you should already be hungry so let's get some measurements down, and the basic tests, then get some food inside of you.  How do you feel?"
"Good, like I could jump like Superman."
"We'll test that, along with your strength, flexibility, speed and endurance, but I'm pretty sure you and Steve are pretty equal now."
Bucky went with him back to the examination room with a nurse following them.  Howard was already distributing glasses to everyone and filling them with scotch, finishing with the Colonel, Steve, Peggy and modern Bucky.  He raised his glass to them.
"Here's to Sergeant Bucky Barnes, America's second super soldier.  He'll need a catchy name and a promotion.  Captain Brooklyn.  Captain Manhattan.  The Brooklyn Boxer.  We'll come up with something.  I'll have to come up with a new uniform for him and find another shield.  If only I had more vibranium."
Bucky shook his head and looked at Steve, raising his eyebrows.  The blond smiled, sipping his drink.  Then he gestured to Bucky, and they stepped away from the others.  Nothing was said at first then Steve cleared his throat.
"Can I ask you a question?"  Bucky nodded.  "Why are you doing this and not me?  Am I not alive in the future?  I mean, I just thought if the threat was as bad as you say I would be part of this ...."
Immediately Bucky sighed then wished he could take it back.  He took several moments to choose his words.
"You were around but then you made a decision and now you're not.  I don't want to say more with so many ears around because it is need to know.  I promised Bucky a talk and a drink with a kick.  I think you should join us so I'm only saying it once, just to you two."
Walking away without looking back he rejoined the Colonel and Peggy.  Steve looked at him for some time, wondering what happened in the future that made him ... leave.  His thoughts were interrupted by the younger Bucky's return to the lab, dressed in fatigues.  Two technicians and Steve were to accompany him to the surface to test his speed and strength, then he would return to the lab for the remaining tests.  While he was gone, Bruce and Howard spoke about some improvements that could be made to the chamber and serum delivery system.  They returned to the others and the older Bucky insisted that the existence of the two remaining vials be kept secret, known only to those staff who were there in the lab, to continue the work of Project Rebirth.
"If HYDRA, Army Intelligence or the CIA gets wind of these vials they'll try to steal them," said Bucky.  Noticing their confusion at the term CIA he explained further.  "The OSS became the CIA.  They'll become more secretive over the years, establishing their own network of spies that aren't always going to be doing the right thing.  There's one other thing."  He looked at Bruce who nodded his agreement with Bucky's disclosure.  "You need to find another soldier.  His name is Isaiah Bradley, a sergeant, and he's part of the other super soldier program that will be run by Army Intelligence and the CIA."  Colonel Phillips frowned.  "Yeah, they'll tell you it doesn't exist, but it does, using black soldiers as Guinea pigs for a serum that should never have seen the light of day.  He's the only survivor and he deserves to be treated with respect.  He was sent after me in 1951 and almost killed me.  They kept him imprisoned for 30 years, supposedly for the security of the country but it was their way of keeping a good soldier in slavery.  Promise me you'll find him and make him part of the SSR as an equal super soldier to Steve and Bucky."
"I promise," said Phillips, solemnly.  "You really can't trust some people to tell you the truth, can you?"
"No sir, you can't.  Give your trust out sparingly.  I'll give you a list of names of military personnel and others with a HYDRA connection before we return.  Remove them from power and make sure they don't do to this timeline what they did to mine."
As they waited for the younger Bucky to return, the older version wrote that list down.  Bruce and Howard kept conferring, with the former refusing to answer many of the latter's questions about future technology, saying he would just have to wait or discover it for himself.  After about an hour, Steve, younger Bucky, and the two technicians returned, appearing enthusiastic about the results of the physical testing.  A meal was laid out in a conference room, which they all took advantage of, then Bucky presented the list of names to Colonel Phillips, allowing him, Peggy and Howard to leave and begin their investigation of the people he identified as HYDRA supporters.  Closing and locking the door behind them, he brought out four glasses, then produced a small flask.  Bruce smiled.
"You're sure you want to give them that?" he asked.  "Once it's gone, they won't be able to get anymore until you know who shows up."
Bucky shrugged.  "They can save it for very special circumstances.  Might cut through any misunderstandings that might arise when they meet him and show him the flask."  He looked at his younger counterpart and Steve.  "This is Asgardian mead, once made on another planet until it was destroyed, and their surviving people took refuge on Earth.  Their champion is a Demi-god named Thor, and yes, he's the Norse god.  He'll become a friend of our planet and at some point, will stand with you to protect it against a being who would destroy the universe.  Take it sparingly, as even the stuff they make on Earth has a kick, and you will definitely get drunk if you have too much."
He poured out a finger's worth in each glass then, then took the smallest of sips, watching their reaction as they picked up their glasses.  Bruce downed his in one gulp, explaining it had little to no effect on him.  Cautiously, Bucky and Steve took a small sip, reacting positively to it then looked at the two modern men for what was coming next.
"In a few weeks, you're going to attack the base where Red Skull is," began modern Bucky.  "I wasn't there, so I only know what was filed in the mission reports.  Us being here may change things but ultimately what has to happen is Bucky, you have to make sure that Steve survives.  I don't know how you're going to do it because the chance of both of you being on the aircraft is unknown."
They looked confused, so Bruce told them what the history books in their timeline said about the attack on Red Skull's fortress, the battle in a giant aircraft between him and Captain America, and the decision by Steve to ditch the airplane into the Arctic to keep the bombs on board away from populated areas.  Then, he told them how Steve was thought to have been killed in the crash but the discovery of the wreckage in 2011, led to the unthawing of his body, and the miracle of him waking up with all of his attributes and faculties intact.  From there they told them about the formation of the original Avengers and their defence of Earth from alien invaders.
"So, I survived to help the future against these beings," stated Steve.  "Won't they need me then, in that future timeline?"
Modern Bucky and Bruce looked at each other, then Bucky shook his head.  "No, because there's more than one universe.  In fact, there are many thousands of them, and the being who was originally behind that invasion, a Titan named Thanos, exists in many of them.  He used another being for that first invasion but when the Avengers defeated the invading force, he began to look for other ways to get what he wanted from us.  When he did finally invade us himself, we lost, and he basically wished away half of the population of our universe.  I disappeared for five years, along with trillions of others, all randomly disappearing.  When Steve and the remaining Avengers found a way to undo that, an earlier version of him found out and appeared, only this time with the goal of destroying our universe completely and rebuilding it the way he wanted, without anyone challenging him, especially the Avengers.  This time we were successful, and the lost people reappeared.  There's another version of Thanos who found out that we defeated him and he's rallying all his versions, in many timelines.  We're doing the same, rallying all of the super soldiers, all of the versions of Thor, Bruce, other past and future members of the Avengers, trying to bring them together sooner.  If Thor is successful, you could be meeting his counterpart in this timeline soon.  Another champion called the Black Panther will approach her grandfather Azzuri and try to convince him to make himself known to you.  He's the King of Wakanda, and the vibranium in your shield was stolen from there, so it may be awkward, but he has super soldier abilities.  There are others, and if they begin coming out of the woodwork then it will be you two who will connect with them and form the Avengers that you'll need to defend this timeline.  A soldier named Isaiah Bradley will be needed but he hasn't become a super soldier yet, so you have to wait until he is and make sure he's part of your group.  Even if the danger appears over, you still need the Avengers because HYDRA wasn't defeated.  They just hid in plain sight, although the list I gave the Colonel will root a good portion of them out.  There will always be a need for someone to protect the planet and you two are the beginnings of that.  But first, Bucky, you have to make sure that either Steve doesn't go down with the aircraft, or you find a way to get to him after he takes it down.  We can give you the coordinates of where to find him as it's common knowledge in our time.  I wish I could tell you more about the how, but at least you have the advance knowledge and the strength to make it happen."
Both younger men nodded their heads and sipped their drinks then Steve cleared his throat.
"What happens to me in the future?  You said I'm not there."
Older Bucky's jaw clenched, and a muscle twitched slightly until he breathed out.
"After all that you had been through, starting with the realization that HYDRA was still around, plus other things that really don't matter now, you chose to return to the past so that you could have a normal life.  I'm not going to lie and say I was okay with it because I wasn't.  I was still a mess after all my years of being a prisoner and unwilling weapon of HYDRA.  You gave up a lot to help free me, and I thought you were going to help me get used to living in the 21st century, then you just left and went back to 1949, back to Peggy.  You didn't look for your younger self, you didn't look for me, you told no one about HYDRA.  The person who provided the portal says it was because there are rules in time travel, rules about changing the past and it was explained to that Steve that he couldn't interfere, so he didn't."
"But you're here," said younger Bucky.  "You're changing this timeline.  Why is that permitted?"
"Because Thanos has already destroyed several timelines and those whose job it is to keep the timelines going aren't strong enough to deal with him, because he's attacking them too.  He's going to destroy everything they pledged to protect, and they need our help.  So, we were permitted to make changes, like making sure Bucky didn't fall off the train, and putting him through the full procedure now so that HYDRA won't be able to change him, ever.  Whatever consequences those changes make in your universe will be dealt with by that authority.  When you're needed, you won't get much notice.  A portal will open wherever you are and whoever comes through will say these words, "Time to go."  You drop everything, get ready, and when the portals reopen you go into them.  If it appears that you won't be successful in that timeline, another portal will allow you to return and the original members of that timeline will destroy it, taking that Thanos with them before he can do it."
"And if it's our timeline that is under attack?"  Steve looked at all of them.  "Who do we call to bring in help?"
A portal opened at that moment, and a woman with a bald head walked through, ignoring it when it closed behind her.  Her appearance was otherworldly, as she wore intricate robes the colour of saffron, but her face was both young and old at the same time.  She gazed kindly at all of the men before speaking.
"That would be me or my successor," she said, calmly.  "My name isn't important, but I will know before you do and will have raised the alarm.  James is the emissary of his time and when you two join the battle in another timeline you will be amongst many versions of yourselves, as well as other versions of Bruce, and anyone else who is either an enhanced or regular human who have the skills and desire to help protect that timeline.  No world will be alone to fight against Thanos, I can promise you that.  Until then you live as normal a life as you can.  You can marry, and have children, as they will inherit your abilities and will carry on your legacy, and you prepare for when you are needed."
"You're a wizard," stated the younger Bucky, a look of wonder on his face.
A ghost of a smile appeared on the woman's face.  "A sorcerer but it's just semantics.  Even we have been challenged by this threat to all universes, but we will do our part along with others to stand united against it."  She turned to the older version of Bucky and Bruce.  "It is almost time for you to return to your original timeline.  I will let you take your leave of the others then open a new portal for you."  She looked at the younger pair of men.  "Until I see you both again."
With a shifting of her hands, she opened a portal and disappeared into it.  Pushing the flask towards the two, Bucky and Bruce stood up.  Before they got to the door, Steve called out one more time.
"I'm sorry," he said to the older Bucky.  "I'm sorry for leaving you behind."  He looked at both the younger and older version.  "You know I love her."
"I know both versions of you did," said the older man.  "You didn't come to the decision lightly.  I was gone for five years with all the others, and you blamed yourself for that.  You thought we were all dead, just as you thought I died when I fell from the train and thought it was your fault.  I think you just reached a point where going back seemed to be the only chance to be happy.  It was good to see you again, but it still hurts."
He opened the door and left without looking back, followed by Bruce.  The Colonel, Howard and Peggy were still examining the names on the paper that modern Bucky prepared for them but left that task recognizing that the two men from the future were preparing to leave.
"We've told Steve and Bucky what they need to know," said modern Bucky.  "They can fill you in."  He turned to Peggy and smiled softly at her.  "You're just as beautiful as I remember but you always had eyes just for Steve.  Marry him, as soon as you can.  Your bond is strong, and it will bring him home."  He faced the Colonel.  "You're a stubborn old man but that stubbornness helped win a war.  Now the war here is against HYDRA.  Don't ever give up that fight."  Finally, he faced Howard Stark.  "When you get married and have children, make sure you make time for them.  They'll be just as much a legacy as your inventions will be.  Money isn't everything."
Bruce just shook hands with all of them, then he and Bucky stood away from the others.  The circle of sparks appeared out of nowhere and the two of them entered it as soon as it was large enough.  When they left, the others were silent, each of them contemplating what they had learned.

What was with these supposed 'geniuses' always wanting to rule the world?
The amount of hubris one needed to go through with it never ceased to amaze Natasha. This week's version wanted revenge on the science community for calling him 'stupid' and 'crazy' over his theories on creating titan fauna and megaflora.
Someone, please shoot me.
If Nat had a dollar each time she heard some version of the 'Why I must hold the world hostage' speech, she'd be able to bribe Tony to let her control the music for mission trips.
Steve wished they would drop the speeches already. He just hoped Ife was almost done with the power cells so they could drop the charade and go home.
Tumblr media
"Now! Watch as I claim what's rightfully mine!" the mad scientist finally finished his speech by pressing the detonation button, but nothing happened.
" What's happening? Why isn't working?!"He pressed the button another three times to no effect, "Why aren't the missiles firing?!"
The mad scientist was about to radio his henchmen outside of the main chamber when he heard bullets pouring like rain outside the hangar followed by frantic shouts from his men.
"SOMEONE STOP HER!!"
"NOTHING'S WORKING!!"
"GET THE TANKS!!"
"FIRE AT WILL!!"
"WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE?!!"
"SHE'S AN ABOMINATION!!"
"What on Earth is going on out there?" He wondered as he carefully made his way to the entrance, only for a downright beastly roar frightening nearly everyone into silence.
"What the" A soft knock at the hangar doors broke his concentration.
Tumblr media
Ife was pissed.
She FINALLY had some decent food after not getting a chance to refuel after expending her energy reserves from her last mission, but it was barely a morsel. It took no time to devour all of the titan fauna the henchmen unleashed on her, unaware those were inferior albeit still tasty versions of food from her homeworld. She even found some yummy megaflora.
It was a bummer Ife was famished. She would've prepared them better to bring out their flavors.
Another tank shell bounced off of her.
When will these fools learn that this is pointless? Conventional Earth weapons are nothing to her. Well, at least the energy from their artillery aided with digestion. Also, the power cells were tasty; they had a refreshing tropical fruity taste with notes of mint.
Now the scientist refused to open up, even after she knocked, "Guess I'll have to let myself in."
Tumblr media
The scientist tried his best to steel himself, only for the two-meter thick air hangar doors and part of the solid stone walls to rip off like cheap wrapping paper.
His eyes almost bugged out of their sockets at the intruder — a tall woman — casually lifting both doors in one hand and a 250-ton tank in the other. The woman turned to two tied-up Avengers, smiled, and threw both items 1500 meters away with a flick of her wrists.
"Hi, Captain, Black Widow. How's it going?"
"Can't complain," Steve answered.
"Why haven't you escaped yet? It would've taken you two seconds to get out," Ife queried rubbing her growling tummy. Her telltale sign of hunger.
"We were waiting for you," Nat retorted while raising an eyebrow.
This will be fun.
"What happened to your comms link?"
"Well…I was preoccupied."
"With what?"
The woman's eyes brightened, "I found some yummy food not unlike Avlenia, but they barely did anything for me. I ate everything the goons unleashed and then some, but I'm still hungry! Which sucks cuz I wasn't able to properly prepare them-"
That can't be right.
That chamber housed hundreds of exotic beasts and flora with a combined weight of 312.5 THOUSAND TONS!! There was no way a single person could eat one of those behemoths, let alone all of them.
"MONSTER!!"
"Huh?" Ife finally noticed the scientist and his remaining goons.
"Do you have any more? I'm STARVING!"
"No one should eat one of those beasts, let alone all of them!"
Ife raised an annoyed eyebrow. "Maybe not possible for humans, but, "she strolled towards the scientist and started unzipping her combat suit, "that was only a snack for me, and it left me hungry for more."
The scientist cried out in horror when a belly 3x the size of an exercise ball surged forth.
How is she moving?! His eyes darted over to her comrades but found them lightly chuckling with the spy sporting a smirk.
"So, do you have any more food? Don't leave me in suspense."
The monster rolled her eyes at the rude man's silence, "So you still don't believe me. Okay. Let's see. One of the beasts was this large six-legged alligator…"
She started listing the various beasts and megaflora that were now digesting in her rapidly shrinking belly.
Galala Gator: 90 tons each, Ox Chicken: 15 tons each, Giant Turkey: 75 tons each, Volcano Weathercock: 10 tons each, Five-Tailed Giant Eagle: 45 tons each, Demon Devil Serpent:100 tons each, Elephantsaurus: 125 tons each, and so on.
Every 'food item' this monster blithely listed horrified everyone besides her teammates who were trying not to laugh. Each of these specimens took elite teams to capture; several men died in the process.
Yet this Eldritch Being glutted all of their hard-won gains as a 'pitiful snack'!
"How? How is this possible?" The devastated scientist barely choked out a whisper as her enormous belly was nearly flat.
Unfortunately, the monster's sharp ears heard the whisper, "All of those delicious beasts, flora, and the energy from the power cells barely made a dent! Tell me where you got this bounty! I'm Starving!"
As if to make her point, the monster turned her head towards the hole she made and let out a near-deafening roar of a belch demolishing what was left of the wall and pushing back all of the remaining men and tanks outside.
What is this monstrosity?!
Tumblr media
"Shit!" Not only did the wimp not answer Ife's question, but now he's slumped on the floor.
"He's out cold, Ife."
"I can see that, Nat. All I wanted was some more food!"
"Some?"
"Fine. But you know he didn't make them from scratch. He had to have gotten from somewhere."
Some of the stronger-nerved goons were able to recover from Ife's Roar, "Damn, that woman's scary!"
"Nah, man. She's a monster in human skin."
"Which is a shame, too. She's fucking hot!"
"I know, right?! Wouldn't mind going a few rounds with her."
Steve scowled as he marched up to six of the trash-talking goons inside one of the still intact tanks, ripped off the tank's hatch, and yanked four of them by their collars."I'm only gonna say this once. Never, and I mean never, say that crap about my team. Especially the 'abomination', got it?" his voice never rising above a calm, measured tone.
"Yes!"
Steve felt he needed to drive this home, "Yes, what?"
"Yes, Sir!"
"Good."
Nat rolled her eyes at Ife's bashful body posture at Steve defending her. They weren't fooling anyone.
Tumblr media
Ife was able to pick up the scent of more delectable beasts and flew off to satisfy her voracious appetite. The scent came from a fortified bunker not far from the main base. She ripped off the building by the foundation in her haste to fill her hunger void.
It led her to a heavily fortified manmade cavern with a huge portal at the opposite end of the entrance and containment units housing even more of the delectable beasts lining the sides.
She licked her lips in excitement but stopped when she got a good look at the animals. That craven of a scientist is lucky she's too hungry to revisit him.
"I should probably tell Nat and Steve."
Tumblr media
Nat peered into the last unlocked containment unit. She found a giant garden snake-like creature that seemed to take a liking to her. Its scales were the color of twilight at its height. She wondered if-
"You should name her."
Nat nearly swiveled her head, "What?"
"She likes you. You should name her."
"How can you tell?"
"I just know," Ife shrugged.
"Hmm. How about сумерки (Sumerki: twilight)?"
The snake affectionately rubbed her head against the reinforced glass containment wall.
"See? She loves it!"
Tumblr media
Sumerki was the last beast on this side of the portal and was about to pass through but turned and playfully poked Ife's midsection.
"You want me to come with you?" The snake nodded.
Ife turned back to Steve and Nat, "Umm, can I-" her stomach roared asking the question for her.
"It's alright, Ife. You can go, but don't be long." Steve rubbed his hand behind his head. Neither of them wanted to deal with a hangry Ife.
Ife flew into his warm embrace, "Thank you so much!" She kissed both his cheeks, "I promise to document everything I see!"
When will those lovable dorks admit they love each other?
Tumblr media
It wasn't long before Ife and Sumerki came back smiling and sporting enormous food bellies. Ife sped off before she could say anything. The next thing they heard was a five-minute sonic roar of a belch causing mini-tremors and cracks forming on the ground.
Sounds of her epic belch were heard 15km away.
They were glad that the scientist was stationed in the middle of nowhere.
Ife flew back into Steve's arms, "Thanks again!" Ife smiled as Steve returned the hug.
Both Natasha and Sumerki shook their heads wearing the same expression.
Ife pulled out her tablet and personal interface, "Okay, so my hunch was right and this place is incredibly vast. I was only able to explore .25% of the place."
Even Natasha was taken aback by the amount of information Ife had, "Just how big is this place?"
Tumblr media
"So this new 'realm' is called Guloxity?"
Fury turned the last page of Ife's extensive report. He had a laugh at her devouring over 300K tons of food and was still famished.
The whole team had a laugh riot. Tony even joked about how much he'd save on grocery bills—even though she provides most of her food. It's the least he could do since he blackmailed her into joining the team.
Thanks to her, SHIELD has access to a new realm. Plus the snake she and Natasha befriended has been a delight. However, he did wonder how Ife and her friends were able to create a habitat and a size modulator so quickly.
"Do you find the terms agreeable?" Aliza looked back at Fury's desk. The deal stipulates that any findings and all findings SHIELD makes involving the new realm must be free and open to the public. This means that all patents and research can not be owned by any single nation or corporation including Stark Industries.
Banner had consoled Stark when he read out the terms.
No matter. Fury had his best people on this new venture. Even managed to rope in Banner and Dr. Cho. Ife was able to recreate the unique energy signature from the mad scientist's power cells as a source of renewable energy.
In the end, he was glad it worked out.

Who should play Ted Kord in the DCU?
Tumblr media
*slight spoilers for Blue Beetle in theaters now!*
I have now seen Blue Beetle twice now, and I absolutely loved it. From the cast, the cinematography, to the action and the drama, it may be my favorite DC movie. If I had one nitpick, I was hoping to see a little more inclusion, at the very least a cameo, of Ted Kord.
Ted Kord in the comics is the second Blue Beetle and the sometimes mentor to Jaime, sometimes deceased hero. In this movie they opted for a middle ground, Ted is missing, and does not appear in the film.
However in our mid credits scene, we find a message from Ted, stating he is alive and needs his daughters help.
While this excites me for future installments of the franchise, it did leave my wheels turning as to who should play Ted in a sequel to Blue Beetle. And I think I have some solid picks. First let's look at what has come before:
Live Action Depictions:
None. Sorta.
Tumblr media
While Brandon Routh plays Ray Palmer, the character was set up and meant to be the Blue Beetle. He originally appears in Arrow, described as tech CEO who looks to use technology to become a superhero and challenge the Green Arrow.
However, before this season, Arrow mentioned Ted Kord and Kord Industries so much, one can assume that the character that would become the Atom was originally Ted Kord.
And there are a lot of similarities! Both use technology, both are dorky, corny and well intentioned smart dummies. I think Routh does a great Kord audition here.
We want someone charming, dorky, and even silly. Ted Kord is a silver age hero, and needs to feel like it.
Film Stipulations
Tumblr media
For the first time I fancast, we actually have some clues and hurdles for casting.
We learn quite a bit about Ted Kord from the Blue Beetle movie. He is obsessed with the scarab, he fought in and for Palmera City, but wasn't iconic enough to be remembered by many. He was remembered foundly by Rudy though, who is played by George Lopez, who is 62.
Bruna Marquezine plays his daughter, who is 28, and Susan Sarandon plays his older sister at 76. Gaging this range we can assume Ted is somewhere between 55-65, so our actor needs to be in that age range.
We also know Susan Sarandon is very white, and Jenny is mixed, so we're looking for a white actor.
Characteristics
Tumblr media
Ted Kord is a classic hero. He is corny, he is fun, and he is weird. We know he is obsessed with the scarab, so someone who can get a little unhinged would be good.
One aspect of Kord I loved from the movie was this inventions didn't always work. He was a genius but a janky one. I like the idea of mad scientist meets heartfelt hero.
We also need someone who feels like they've been a hero for a longtime, and maybe not always the best one.
Honorable Mentions
Tumblr media
One interesting aspect of Ted Kord is his history of being adapted through other characters. We brought up Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer playing a version of Blue Beetle, but Patrick Wilson similarly did so.
Alan Moore's Watchmen character Nite Owl II was based off or Ted Kord. You can see it in his suit, gadgets and even ship.
Tumblr media
Blue Beetle is often compared to Batman for being so similar. While he just made his reappearance in The Flash, George Clooney is in our age range and kind of fits perfectly.
Tumblr media
While I'm usually against actors playing separate superhero roles, I think in this case it can be a fun wink and nod to the viewers, while oddly enough honoring the character.
So if Brandon Routh, George Clooney or Patrick Wilson want the role, I think they should take it.
Finally, a popular fancast and rumor was Jason Sudekais was taking the role.
Tumblr media
I absolutely love this casting, and would be happy with it. But I want some originality in my pick, so I have my own as well.
So let's get into my picks:
3. Eric Bana
Tumblr media
Starting off strong with an actor who has done superhero media but not in the DC universe.
You may know him from The Other Boleyn Girl, Star Trek or the Time Traveler's Wife, but most would remember him as Bruce Banner from 2003s The Hulk.
While Bana was wrong for Banner, I think he has the making of an excellent Kord. He has those classic hero features, the voice, the look, and I think the range to pull this off. He even had a solid comedic voice performance in Chip n Dale as Monterey Jack.
I do think Bana can play a generic once was hero, but I'd like a little more life in my Blue Beetle. So while I think he is a solid, my top 2 and honestly my honorable mentions would be much better.
2. Patrick Dempsey
Tumblr media
Known for roles in Grey's Anatomy and Enchanted, Patrick Dempsey's character work leads me to believe he'd be a good fit here.
Dempsey has a voice that if utilized well, can be very silver age. I think his background in romantic comedies can be utilized with such a funny cast. Dempsey would be the dorkiest to put in the suit, and would pull off that mad genius hero line well.
My main problem with Dempsey is whether he can feel like a mentor. While the others on my list can pull it off, I don't know if I've ever seen Dempsey play the guy who knew what he was doing. I think he's got the chops for it and I'd be happy to see him try.
1. Stanley Tucci
Tumblr media
Stanley Tucci is a gem.
I could list off his credentials for days but you probably love him from something. He has charisma, mad scientist energy, and can clearly rock the bald look The Beetle costume gives ya.
Tucci also has charisma with just about anyone. I can't think of an actor more widely loved in pretty much everything he is in. He would bring his A Game with such an incredible cast.
He's also had experience mentoring a young hero. He played Abraham Erskine in Captain America the First Avenger, where he mentored a young Steve Rogers.
At 62, he is right in the age range we want. He's got the build, he's got the charm, and absolutely seems like the type of hero who would make a Beetle Mech with a fart button.
Overall, I can see Tucci returning and playing Kord for several solid movies, even spinning off with my Booster Gold and having adventures, or making the ultimate sacrifice.
Tumblr media
Either way, Stanley Tucci is my Ted Kord.
Thank you for reading! If you'd like to support me, you can follow me on my socials here!

Avengers Prompt: Asset!Bruce Banner
I have seen so many great fics in which the Avengers need to be prison wardens of Loki, yet I think there is a great opportunity that has been missed (or maybe I just didn't find those fics, never say never) : Bruce Banner in a somewhat similar situation.
Inagine: the military manages to capture Banner and it is decided that the only group capable of keeping him under control are the Avengers.
The Avengers don't want to be wardens, but feel they don't have other options. They make sure furnish a nice room for Banner (and especially Steve doesn't try to think to much about the fact that the walls are bunker-grade and the door only locks from the outside).
They strip down the kitchen a bit (after all, Banner is supposed to be a mad scientist all too happy to engage in reckless experiments) but over all they try for a nice welcome. "You don't cause us problems, and everything stays nice and civil."
Except then there are threats which require the Hulk to be unleashed and the destruction it causes worries the avengers: while Banner has acted mild mannered around them, the hulk seems to consider them enemies.
Banner's confidence in controlling the Hulk doesn't seem great either, and Steve has had to accompany a human Banner back to the tower multiple times by now. (Banner isn't running, not really. He just... wants to drink some tea in a cafe or remind himself of the atmosphere at the University. He is tired.)

“Right. So today we’re saving the world for pizza and storytime,” Clint declares, banging his fist down on the coffee table in place of an auctioneer’s gavel. “Sold!”
sometimes the Avengers have odd motivations (chp. 1)
Quotidian by metisket (AO3) Avengers (Marvel Movies) – Teen #Alternate Universe #Mad Science #Mad Scientists #Doombots #Self-hate #Implied/Referenced Child Abuse #Mentions of eating disorders (starvation)
An average day in the life of Bruce Banner. He tries so hard to mind his own business and stay below the radar. He does try. There should probably be a cautionary proverb about the best laid plans and Tony Stark.

Please Don't Leave Me (Pt. 24)
Bucky x Reader
Tumblr media
We made it back to the tower and Bruce and Jamie were really hitting it off. They were talking about some new technology that Bruce had been working on. I anxiously played with my phone, waiting for the elevator to stop on my desired floor. It finally dinged and I could see Tony standing talking to someone in the common room.
“Look who it is the scientist, the assassin and oh you’re new.” He turned his head to the side.
“This is my friend.” I gestured to the newcomer.
“Oh so you go on secret missions and bring home strays from the city morgue. Who are you, l/n.” He joked. We walked further into the room to see everyone in the same spots there were when we left.
Bucky sat with his elbows on his knees and his hands clasped. As Jamie walked in he sat up straight.
“How the hell-”
“It’s a long story.” I said. I was still mad at his behavior but I understood his apprehensiveness. Steve stood up and shook Jamie's hand.
“Steve Rogers. Any friend of y/n’s is a friend of mine.” Leave it to Steve to be sweet.
“Jameson Valentino.” He shook back.
“Valentino? Let me guess. You're related to Chrisitan.” Sam said. I saw Nat’s hand fly to her gun. Jamie must have caught it too because he quickly responded.
“Brother but I assure you I do not share my brother's hobbies.” He was quiet but I could see the apprehension on everyone's faces.
“You were dead.” Bucky spoke up.
“Bucky.” I warned.
“He was what!” Clint yelled from the sofa.
“Yeah well he’s not anymore.” Nat said.
“What happened at the gala? Because last I checked zombies weren’t real” Tony asked.
“HYDRA experimented on Chrisitan or Chrisitain experimented on himself. I noticed he was different when he came to the masquerade ball, stronger. He said he was a vampire.” Sam started laughing.
“I knew this guy was all murderous and shit but I didn’t realize he was cuckoo for cocoa puffs.” He jested.
“He said that his blood would bring someone back if they died with it in their system. He put it in our drinks.” I looked at Bucky this time. I couldn’t read him.
“So blue eyes over here is a vampire now?” Tony pointed at Jamie.
“We don’t know.” Bruce walked over to the screen. He pulled up vitals and everyone's heart beats appeared on the screen. Even Jamies.
“His body seems to be functioning normally.” He said surprised. Tony walked up to the screen and swiped a few times. I saw Jamie stagger out of the corner of my eye. I put my hand on his shoulder.
“Jamie what is it?” He looked sick. He squinted his eyes and put his hand on his head.
“I don't know. Something is wrong.”
“Banner.” I pleaded with him.
“I’ll take him to the med bay and run some tests.” I nodded. I looked at Jamie and reassured him it would be okay. Bruce headed down the stairs and I was left with the rest of the team.
“So what are we going to do?” Sam asked.
“We have to find him and kill him. If his blood is capable of creating other weapons then we need to get rid of the source.” Clint said.
“Not all weapons. They’re people too. Innocent people.” I added.
“Not anymore. They are weapons of HYDRA.” Thor flew in. He was god knows where.
“You forget that we have one of those weapons right here.” I said out of anger. Immediately I was filled with regret. Bucky got up and started to walk out. I moved to step in front of him.
“Bucky, that's not what I meant. I was saying that they are innocent people too-”
“Let him go” Steve grabbed my shoulder.

Omg I've always wanted to do one of these ask games holy shit. Okay so hi, I'm Mori. Lovely to meet you; thank you for hosting this. I'm pansexual and nonbinary. For my personality, I'm a writer by trade, the kind to go into research rabbit holes to accurately explain a one-sentence detail. I am witty and clever. My best friend describes me as "the serious one" because he says I take everything I do, even my nonsense, very seriously. I have to admit, he's not wrong. My best friend *also* calls me a mad scientist. With how many things I've blown up, he's probably not wrong about that either.
As far as fandoms to match me up with, absolutely Marvel but also I wanna see who you'd pick from your OCs too. Then I can stalk your blog for everything about them.
Sorry this took so long
Marvel
I ship you with Bruce banner. I can't explain why but I do. I just think the two of you would get along
For my ocs
I ship you with Henry Beckett. He would love the fact that you write and would definitely enjoy listening to you talk for hours about your stories.
He too is a writer so he understands the need to research.

It's the times.
Marvel's archetypical mega-geniuses were largely products of the late 50s and 60s, and tended to be full-on adults. They were products of the atomic and jet age, and were born of the tropes of those times. Reed was always gray at the temples, Tony Stark was Howard Hughes, Bruce Banner was functionally working at Los Alamos and Henry Pym was doing mad scientist adventures before he even got a costume.
Marvel's sliding timescale has inched back some of the characters' ages to rather silly degrees, and by the time later characters started getting introduced, the stat-blocks of the manly men of science had to be matched, even if their tropes work.
They also were rarely created to be superheroes. Reed was, but the Fantastic Four were more pulp adventurers than superheroes. Most of Marvel's smartypants heavy-hitters came out of pulp sci-fi and monster concepts.
DC, as the place superheroes began, tended to have a lot more "pure" superhero concepts. You didn't have a lot of guys whose whole deal was "I'm a super-science adventurer in the vein of Doc Savage" or "I'm a Tom Swift type" over at DC, and the ones that were, like the Metal Men's Doc Magnus or the Challengers of the Unknown, didn't take off as much in the popular consciousness (and came from the 60s like Marvel's guys)
Instead, if a superhero had a science background, that was almost entirely to justify them making their superhero gadget of choice, like Hourman's pills, after which it was mostly fisticuffs over science. Super-science was a thing some heroes could just 'do', like Superman having access to Kyptonian science and Batman being Batman, but it wasn't a schtick for DC during its foundational days.
DC's biggest gadgeteer is arguably Blue Beetle, and he was purchased (and again, much later). DC had plenty of genius scientists, but they were badguys in the mold of Lex Luthor and the Ultra Humanite. DC's prominent super-science era all started with STAR Labs, and that was in the 70s.
Marvel's geniuses were all molded by Hank Pym, who started as a one-off character in a weird science story and went from adult Tom Swift to superhero over the course of 4 stories.
And DC's reboot-madness means that while a lot of their characters are old fashioned, none of them are any older than the last reboot. Barry wasn't played as a super-genius when introduced. He was a chemist in a police lab. The standards for what a standard chemist could pull off in a comic were just different in 1956, and by the 70s that compressed costume needed some explanation.
Honestly I think it’s so funny that in the Marvel universe, when someone’s really smart, they have like eight to twelve doctorates and they finished high school at age twelve.
And then over in the DC universe it’s like. This is Tim Drake. He’s a genius. He keeps cloning his loved ones. He dropped out of highschool. Over there is Barry Allen. He can reverse engineer a spaceship in less than a minute. He is such a good chemist he’s still going to be known as the best chemist in 4,000 years. He has a bachelor’s degree.

Snow
Characters: Bruce Banner , Marc Spector
Word count: 547
Tagging: @goodoldfashionedengineer
Notes: check out the previous installment of this series: Cooking Together. I like rambly stories, but for some reason they come most with Bruce. Enjoy!
──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Bruce wasn’t sure why he was still outside.
The snowfall had started again about a mile in. He had stopped, sitting back against a tree.
Maybe he should have turned back.
That thought didn’t stick long.
Footprints followed behind him, but didn’t last. He continued on what was hopefully forward.
He was wishing for a jacket by now. Maybe he shouldn’t have left.
Why was he out here again? He didn’t remember.
He was upset.
It didn’t last long after the walk had started. He should have stayed near the cabin.
Bruce pulled forward into the uncomfortable silence. Why wasn’t anyone speaking? Where were the animals? The wind?
A twig snapped under his foot.
The man stopped. Was someone coming to take him back?
Nobody was coming for him. He knew that.
Which way was the house?
A vast white void surrounded Bruce. He stopped, trying to get his head together.
Would he be able to follow smoke? Were the flurries too thick for that?
When was the last time he had eaten? A boot hit bark.
He was lost. He had to be. Why wouldn’t anyone say something? Why was he alone? When did he leave?
Hands tucked under bare arms.
Why did it have to be so cold? Why had he even agreed to stay here?
Nothing was being answered. Bruce walks forward.
How long until he’d have to worry about frostbite? Would he even have to deal with it?
A thought of heading back crosses the doctor’s mind.
He continues forward.
The snowfall grows heavier. The body shivers.
Why isn’t he at the cabin? Why had he left? Where even was he?
His thoughts are interrupted by tires rolling against the snow.
He continues forward. So does the truck.
“Bruce,” a voice calls.
He doesn’t answer.
“Bruce,” it tries again.
The doctor pushes forward.
“Banner!” Frustration builds.
Bruce looks over. The first thing he sees is the truck that he rented.
Then, he sees Marc.
Silence sticks like the snow.
“Are you getting in or do I have to come out?” Marc questions.
Bruce stares back. How long had he been trying to find him? Why was he trying to find him?
A door opens.
Bruce climbs in.
They drive in silence.
“Are you stupid?” Marc’s hand holds tightly against the steering wheel.
Bruce stays quiet.
“You could have died, you know?” Why did he even care about that?
The scientist pulls at the seatbelt.
“You’re lucky Jake cares so much about people,” the ex-mercenary continued.
“Sorry,” Bruce manages.
Silence follows.
The truck pulls in front of the cabin.
“There’s a fire inside, go warm up,” Marc stops the car.
Bruce stays put.
Marc leaves him in the truck. The silence of it is deafening.
Why had he run off again?
He tries to remember.
A blank is pulled.
He unbuckles.
Was he mad?
The door opens.
No, he couldn't have been. Bruce never left front.
Feet hit snow.
Did he just want to leave?
The door closes.
Maybe. He did that a lot.
The snow cracks under his weight.
Was he okay now?
The wood is loud under his steps.
He could already feel the warmth of the fire before opening the door.
It couldn’t have been important if he couldn’t remember.
Right?
