Oh no Wingfeather Falls, my weakness

Yes absolutely, okay so, the most important thing about this is that they definitely 100% have a VW bus that they’re taking a roadtrip in. It is an old rickety thing and nobody’s sure where it came from or if it will hold together.

The uncles are the “chaperones”. Nia and Aurendelle are having a spa day or something and it’s portrayed in stark opposition to whatever the roadtrip gang are doing (ie. the bus is careening down a mountain hill while Nia and Aurendelle are sitting in a hot spring somewhere).

No one has a valid drivers license. No, not even Stan. Somehow everyone ends up taking a turn driving the bus at some point. Confusingly, the best driver is Leeli.

Their two options for sleeping are either camping out or staying in weird little motels that keep ending up being haunted by supernatural creatures. They keep falling for the motels and while a few of them are inhabited by actual weird creatures (they meet some of the cousins of the gnomes in Gravity Falls when Janner, Kal and Dipper get captured one by one as the gnomes try and find a suitable groom for their queen. Leeli’s crutch is found to be another weakness of gnomes) most of the motels’ “supernatural” creatures are actually the managers dressed up Scooby Doo style trying to attract tourists with the weird stories surrounding their motels (Stan is both impressed and offended someone came up with this idea before him).

Kalmar eats all the snacks the first day and they’re forced to stop at a gas station to buy more and after that they hide them and ration them out- or try to, somehow Kal and Mabel keep finding them.

They Must continue the tradition of ruining every tourist trap they come across. Kalmar and Fiddleford are delighted by this. Janner is deeply confused. Artham, Sara and Leeli get weirdly into it. Ford is also confused. Ford and Janner stand off to the side watching the others destroy tourist traps holding coffee and looking confused.

(Yeah, someone makes the mistake of giving Janner coffee, he ends up kind of addicted to it, “THIS is what grandpa always drinks in the morning?! It’s amazing! I can keep up with Kalmar now!”)

Fiddleford makes the bus rocket powered, which in turn makes it able to fly. Unfortunately, the brakes only work if you’re on the ground. He does also give it wings.

Mabel and Kalmar sharing earbuds and screaming pop songs while everyone throws things at them to try and make them stop.

Oh yeah, the bus only has three CD’s and one is a pop mix from the 2010’s, one is in Spanish, and the final one is a mix of songs from the 70’s-80’s. Mabel somehow manages to get the pop cd in first thing every morning and blasts One Direction’s “That’s what makes you beautiful” to wake everyone up. Stan, Ford, Janner and Sara keep trying to dispose of the CD but it always comes back. They leave it at gas stations, throw it out the window, run it over on “accident”, and mysteriously it’s always back the next day. They think they finally succeed when they don’t hear it for three consecutive days in a row, and then, suddenly, on the final day of their trip, it’s back. (this is based on a real experience I had ajghakljgdfs)

There is a Plot amongst the kids to use this experience to get Janner and Sara to admit their love to each other, go on a date and kiss. They try and keep it a secret but Janner and Sara aren’t dumb and they catch on pretty quick and play along because they’re amused. Dipper’s sole advice to Janner is “Don’t listen to anything grunkle Stan says about dating and girls.”

They keep going through portals. Ford tells them about each world they end up in and the kids keep making friends with aliens. At one point they lose Artham and Fiddleford though a portal and when they come back they’re decked out in steampunk gadgets and refuse to talk about what happened to them (absolutely nothing happened- they found an intergalactic shop selling steampunk stuff and thought it was cool so they got some, but they’re not going to tell the others that).

Stan keeps trying to haggle with every gas station clerk and motel owner they meet. It doesn’t matter if they’re an alien with six eyes and tentacles he’s going to get a better deal than this. Ford doesn’t know how he inherently understands the currency of every world they visit.

There is this one cop that seems to find them and pull them over wherever they go and they have to keep coming up with excuses as to why they were driving too fast/ran a red light/were weaving on the road. The cop pulls Leeli over because she’s driving TOO WELL for this one specific chaos bus and therefore its suspicious. (He lets her go immediately after she says hi to him because she’s polite. Everyone else is annoyed Leeli didn’t have to make up a story.)

One of the times they do camp out they tell scary stories and Sara’s is the best (“and the room was filled with nothing but FORKS.” *shocked gasps*).

The Wingfeathers are also introduced to marshmallow roasting and smores. Dipper, Janner, Sara and Leeli have the patience to slowly toast a marshmallow. Mabel and Kalmar do not and they simply catch theirs on fire and let it burn.

Fiddleford has to teach everyone about hobo pies and how to make them.

The bus inevitably breaks down and strands them. Stan teaches the kids to hitchhike while Fiddleford, Artham and Ford actually try and fix the bus. Stan and the kids get kidnapped. They show back up two hours later with tattered clothes and smoking hair and the bus is fixed and the others are like “??? What happened to you guys?!”  “Don’t ask."

THEY END UP IN PROVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND. For REASONS. This is not where they were planning to go. This is also the only time they end up staying in a hotel. They order pizza and prank call people all night.

They return home the next day via portal.

I'll bite - PLEASE TELL ME MORE about the Something Wicked This Way Comes AU with Gravity Falls and OTGW, it sounds so intriguing and I wanna know how it would work so bad

I have to admit I’m hazy on the details but it figures into my longstanding theory/headcanon that Wirt grew up to become Dipper and Mabel’s dad. A lot of the themes in Gravity Falls are very reflective of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Two children born minutes apart? The one wanting to stay older and the other dying to stay put? A special birthday, a strange small town, a terrible choice to make? Come on.

And what always appealed to me about thinking of Wirt as their father is the idea that he’s kind of a veteran of mankind’s ongoing battle with the supernatural. He stared his own demon down. So his children’s encounter with Bill would not seem terribly strange to him, and he would have at least a slight idea of how to fight back. So that made me think of Charles Halloway, and how he really feels too old to be the father of a young son (Wirt isn’t, but he feels it) but ultimately, how he comes in handy as this master of the library archives who’s able to find the information they need to combat this ancient evil. That felt like a very Wirt role.

And Cooger and Dark—if the Beast and Bill could be a duo I think it would really look a lot like that. So Bill is this smart-talking Barnum type like Mr. Dark, and the Beast, who already took a hard knock and possibly got a demonic demotion, is the skulking shadowy background player like Mr. Cooger. So Wirt is horrified to find that his kids not only have an antagonist of their own, but they’ve dragged his old friend with him.

Uh, so I guess they live in Gravity Falls in this version and Wirt works in the town library, and that’s as imaginative as I got.

A girl was feeling really nostalgic abt the fact The Stardust Scouts (my magic girl ocs) are nearing 10 years old at this point… so I felt like drawing their oldest designs faithfully + then drawing their current ones beside them :)

I little bit more about each of them in order:

Savannah started off as much shorter, she was the shortest of the group iirc. I decided to make her the tallest one instead after thinking abt how i wanted her to not only be fat but take up a lot of space. She’s the “main” protagonist of the story (in my mind at least, as it stands SDS is more of an ensemble cast) so I wanted to challenge conventions by making my smart leader you root for fat and completely ok with that. Savannah doesn’t have time for fatphobia she has 3 college essays to write before an alien attacks the city

I am really glad I changed Penny’s color scheme over the years, I don’t like how the red hair and purple sweater look together at all. Their style had also grown a lot more brash and eclectic. I think he started as a shy type? You can definitely see it in the original drawings body language. Unbelievable, she is a Mabel Pines crafter extraordinaire at heart and that’s final

Tabitha “congrats on the transition” Brooks has just been slowly shifting further and further toward his current butch look for forever and it rocks. I distinctly remember making SDS originally with the intent of ���only having girls so no one tried to ship them with a boy” and I was a little stubborn on that point for a while… but Tabitha said nuts to that and decided otherwise. I honestly think of her original design as being what she looked like as a teen these days, before cutting off all that hair and running off to he/her lesbian all over the place.

Wendy’s always been an interesting struggle, because while she and Savannah have both been a learning exercise in getting black & textured hair right, Wendy specifically loves fashion and styling her hair in different ways every other time I draw her. Her current braided hair is what I default to but I’ve also wrapped it up in buns and given her bantu knots too. Also made it more obvious she dyes her hair, glad I moved away from cheese yellow blonde lol

Olivia! Olivia Olivia Olivia…. Ze has definitely won the award for most dramatic change between the old design & now. I make it no secret ze used to be a Tak from invader zim expy, and I still carry those roots with me as I refine zer look. The blonde hair and the orange signature color are both very recent developments, I used to be so attached to Olivia staying purple that I was detrimentally keeping 2 characters purple instead of letting Olivia have a unique place among the group. Now the only thing that’ll make it obvious ze was ever Tak adjacent is the mole under zer eye & a lot of the backstory I have cooking

sara chidouin: shes a really casual player, only plays for the story. joe heard some comms and was like "hey sara you gotta listen to this" and she liked it, so she looked into the game and tried it out. she likes keeping up with vbs and mmj. only plays jp. favorite character is mizuki. skill: can easily clear lvl 26

kris dreemurr: hatsune miku has saved their life and will save it again. they got into prsk because they liked love live when it was still in its heyday, and thought "hey why not". they are considered a "pro" player, fced daijobudesuka a few days after it came out level. they play on every server but main jp and korean (they learned how to read korean specifically for the game and somehow got way better gacha luck so. they basically only play there). favorite character is honami (for obvious reasons lol). skill: can easily clear lvl 32

noelle holiday: yes im doing two characters from the same game. anyway. noelle only got into it after seeing kris playing it and noticing it was very bandori-esque. she tried it and liked the cards and gameplay more than bandori so she shifted to mainly playing pjsk. she enjoys a lot of niigos songs, but her favorite unit is leoni. iykyk. she plays global only. her favorite character is mafuyu :). skill: can easily clear lvl 30

thinkign about. an over the garden wall x gravity falls crossover. it has not left my mind in the last hour

its wirt and greg finding the mystery shack on one weirdly misty summer day, and wirt realizing that theyre lost, AGAIN, but this time theyve gone STRAIGHT to civilization... wirt inspects the surroundings while greg hunts for frogs and/or old cats. yknow the drill.

dipper, seeing that there are people outside of the shack, opens the door and greets them. greg says hi while wirt almost falls down out of pure shock.

i just. wirt and dipper trying to figure out why wirt and greg came here. greg and mabel being overall just happy to have a friend.

and perhaps along the way, stan pines wakes up in the afternoon only to find that there are... two new kids in the shack. and dipper and wirt seem to be physically intertwined with eachother, each doing their own thing, not realizing the entanglement. mabel, greg and waddles are drawing on the walls, trying tio come up with their own creative ways to get the boys back home.

stan blinks, he nods to himself, then goes and gets coffee because he is NOT awake enough for this (at some point ford also comes into the room and acknowledges the. entanglement. in which they separate quickly though dont seem too bothered by the close contact despite meeting merely an hour ago)

ford helps them with their discoveries, and it goes on for a few weeks. shenanigans, hi jinks, and other tomfoolery arrive. at one point the wirt and dipper sneak out to see if they can find where wirt and greg came from, only to end up in a clearing thats. weirdly pretty in an eerie way.

mabel gets a text from dipper: "out 4 a bit w wirt. were trying 2 find the spot where him + greg came from. a bit cold out but dw weve got it covered. k thx. -dip"

greg looks over, and then goes on and on about how oh, wirt acts this way around sara all the time, and oh, sara is wirts crush and hes usually so weird around her like he is with dipper! and mabel.. has an epiphany.

anyways. i think wirt and greg actually get stuck in gravity falls for a few years before anything truly comes their way to get home. atp theyve kinda... settled??? but ford builds a portal between the two worlds. yippee!!!
