Polluted Swinub, the Hog Pokemon Researchers have been monitoring the increase of short-hair "Summer Coat" Swinub as the temperatures in Manaka continue to climb over the years, even in the normally colder northern climates. But now we are seeing something much more drastic, with some Swinub trading their ice affinity for a fire one. Despite initial, and continued, claims that this is a new and natural regional form of Swinub, breeding research has shown that these Swinub lay eggs of normal Swinub, unlike every other recognized regional form. Detractors claim this means nothing, as the breeding programs for the "adapting" Shellder, Dwebble, and Staryu have been unable to produce eggs at all.
Type: Ground/Fire Ability: Oblivious Hidden Ability: Polluted Swinub has no Hidden Ability. Evolution: Polluted Swinub appears unable to evolve.
--- Adventure Start 3/3 ---
Professor Hickory sent you to Piers to collect data from another aide. It turned out the "data" was a rampaging, shaved, Swinub wreathed in flames. Thankfully, your partner Flotssum made short work of it, but this strange occurrence has you and the Professor wanting to dig deeper.
But to do that, you must first defeat your father, an old biker and a Gym Leader of Manaka. Like most Manakan leaders, he focuses on a strategy rather than a typing, with the old biker prioritizing speed control. He claims to go easy on you, bringing a Diglett, a Shift Gear Varoom, and as his ace, an evolved Chareek Flotssum Mischaff with its Hidden Ability.
You have the type advantage for his ace, but if you didn't explore much on your errand, you might find yourself unevolved and fighting uphill. Catching a Peacower has given you a great edge, dispatching the flimsy Diglett and hitting Varoom on its weaker side. If you caught the strange Swinub, it will also help break through the Varoom and resist a few hits from the ace.
As you finally claim your victory, he bursts into tears of pride, handing over your gym badge and a key to one of his old motorcycles. He recommends you continue the Gym Challenge, to build your strength to explore the furthest corners of Manaka for more of these anomalous Pokemon.
You get a call from Professor Hickory. There's rumors of a weird looking Staryu further up the river in the town of Camber. With a Pokedex and a new bike, you hit the road...

Update 2: I’ve been given permission by a higher up in my area to oversee the abandoned pokemon being adopted. The former trainer is set to be confronted about the treatment of their former pokemon by the way. But I’ll refrain from revealing their identity per orders.
First time doing something like this but I’ll explain the process I’ll have going.
1. Reblog + mention in the tags which one of the Pokémon you’re interested in adopting. Your trainer ‘class’ being added is optional.
2. Will you treat this pokemon with the respect and care it deserves? Why do you think you’d be a good trainer for them?
3. Do you have any prior knowledge on this pokemon’s species or type.
4. By the end of the weekend I’ll have gone over everyone and selected the four to receive the pokemon.
Here are the Pokémon!
Peanut (Swinub) (M) (Lvl.10)
He’s very energetic and loves to explore. Will sniff around around a room at great speed upon entering it and likes to beg for treats by squealing or snorting.
Tumblr media
Bubbles (Squirtle, Swamp Spotted Variant) (F) (Lvl.12)
She’s very shy at first and likes to hide inside her shell around other pokemon. However I can assure you she’s a sweetheart! The spots on her body and marks under her eyes are natural.
Tumblr media
Gao (Golett) (✨) (Lvl.25)
Gao here is very quiet but likes to fight a lot! I think they really like battles and are probably an action over words kinda little guy. They are indeed shiny. They seem to have a bit of an ego because of this.
Tumblr media
Nana (Azumarill) (F) (Lvl.30)
Nana is a big sweetheart and loves to play with others! Though because of the damage to one of her ears she is a bit hard of hearing and sometimes needs things to be repeated for her to understand. However do note she doesn’t like battles!

[a phone call recording is attached. it seems like it wasn’t meant to be posted. listen?]
Nimbasa Adoption Agency - 12:09 pm
A: I’m sorry if I sound frustrated but I’m Astra Hoshi and please in the Wishmaker’s name tell me you have my swinub
???: We’re an adoption agency, not a daycare. Why would we have a trainer-owned swinub? None of the mons under our care have a trainer id registered to their chips.
A: It’s a long story, but his ball broke, and while I was trying to deal with it I passed out, so when I woke up they’d taken him. The hospital says he’d almost certainly have gone to you, so please, do you have a XL service swinub with curly fur who responds to “Fractal”?
???: We do have an XL swinub, with curly fur, but there’s no way he’s a service mon. He’s been using Tackle on every care worker we bring near him.
A: Yeah no I’m not surprised, he thinks you’re holding him away from me and he didn’t get any signal from me that he’s allowed to be separated from me right now.
???: Uh…
A: Unconventional request, but please put me on speakerphone and bring the phone to him. If he’s my Fractal I can calm him down, I promise.
???: *sigh* okay fine, if that’s what it takes. *shuffling* okay Miss Astra, you’re on speakerphone.
A: *three short yips and a bark* Fractal? Is that you?
F: *excitable squeaking* Astra! Astra I’m so sorry I don’t know why they’re holding me here I’m doing my best to escape but-
A: *laughter, then a few more barks* It was a mistake, stand down. If you work with them, they’ll take you back to Icirrus. Do what the nice lady says, okay?
???: Miss, have you let your lillipup have the phone?
A: Absol, ma’am. And you’ll understand when you see me. He should be settled down now. If you can go in and remove the band on his back right foot, it’ll show you my service mon registration.
???: Okay, okay, easy, buddy… okay he is cooperating, whatever you did. Back right foot please… thank you… okay I see the tag. Astra Hoshi, trainer id 382808, yes?
A: Yes, that’s m-
F: *frightened squeaking* Astra I feel weird I don’t know what’s happening to me
???: What do you need from me now? Oh you’re glowing that’s not good
A: Oh, Guardian protect us. *in a low, quiet growl* Fractal you’re just evolving, it’ll be okay. We can deal with that, you got too much experience from trying to fight every worker in the building. It’s just piloswine, I’ll be with you in an hour at most and we’ll figure it out, okay? It’s not mamoswine, so it won’t be a big change. I’ve got you.
???: Okay seriously why are you letting your mons have the phone? Well, this band isn’t fitting back on your new piloswine, can I hand it to you separately when I bring him?
A: Yes that’s fine. He’ll listen to you now, and I’ve got a new ball ready for him. Meet me by the Icirrus City Gym, I’ll be there soon. Thanks for working with me on this, may the Guardian watch over you as well.

I have been figuring out how pokemon essentials works by recreating Kanto (I'm in the process for that, but the things left are the events and I can't do a lot of them if I want to do something different to the original story, as is the case), and I got the idea to choose pokemon at random and change the original story to fit the new pokedex, but if it was completely random I could end up with no starters or legendaries, so I decided to use the original kanto dex to create categories and put every pokemon after that in the one that fits it better. There are no problems classifying starters, mythicals, legendaries and pseudos, but the rest are more difficult. I decided some because it made sense, some because they had similar vibes and some because of a mix of both. The problem is that it's easy to forget a category and put one in other that fit's it less, so I'll show you my draft so you can judge me.
(I will add more pokemon than the ones that this says if it makes sense, like more ghosts so pokemon tower doesn't feel too monotone. The ones with a / between them go together, I will probably not add regional variants, and joltik is with the pikachus because I say so. Also, there aren't a lot a single stage evolutions in gen 1, so all of the ones that don't fit are in the closest thing because it's hard to match the number of evolutions and the types.)

Tales & Legendary Encounters #3
Oh! Ah ha ha! It’s been quite a while! Sorry, sorry! I’ve been busy, very very busy... Oh! but I’m not to busy for you now! Sometimes we uncover things here that actually turn out to be a bit true and the last thing I wanna do is say how something is or isn’t without some proof to back it up! Thankfully my trusty team was able to do the research and we were able to get this information back out to you all!
Ah, I’m getting ahead of myself.
-Ahem-
Allow me to tell you about how Swinub became a very helpful little buddy to those from the past. Here’s what my team uncovered. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long ago, during the very early years of Pokémon Capture and Training, there was a small expedition group that decided to explore a snowy part of their region. Dressed for warmth, their bags packed heavily for a long trip, they would set out at dawn and make routine stops along the way. The team consisted of six people, two researchers who lacked pokémon, two ‘Trainers’ who had at least two pokémon each, one doctor, and one cartographer.  These trainers had pokémon that were suited towards combating anything native to the snowy area. One had a Fire-Type and a Fighting-Type, the other had two Rock-Types. Though there was a suggestion to bring a trainer who had a Grass-Type or Water-Type, though they were advised against bringing them since grass was weak to ice and Water-Types could cause some minor problems in the long run.
None of them would’ve expected that the true saviors of this expedition would be the small, unevolved, Swinubs they found while on their travel.
To provide you all with some details, apparently, one of the researchers had wanted a pokémon of their own and thought that little pig-pokémon was cute and would make a good traveling companion. It wasn’t too hard to find and capture one, thanks mostly to the Fighting-Type, and thus the researcher was given their first pokémon. The newly acquired Swinub was allowed to travel alongside their trainer though when a blizzard began to sweep through the area, it was quickly scooped into its owner’s arms and the group rushed towards a cavern-like area to try and wait out the worst of it. Unfortunately for the team, this blizzard was one that would last a long time, much longer than was foreseen by them all. Minutes turned to hours, and hours turned into a few days. In an effort to keep their only line of defense strong, the food was divided in a manner to keep the trainers and their pokémon in fighting condition.
By the fourth day though, things were looking dire as supplies were dwindling and it would be hard to call for assistance. The group made a decision, they spent too much on materials and equipment for this and they needed something to show for their work. They would have to brave the wilderness and search for supplies to help them outlast the blizzard and continue. One trainer, one researcher, and the cartographer would all exit the cavern and begin to search the area immediately outside the cavern for any source of food as water wasn’t a problem. As soon as the three were about to give-up, that’s when the Swinub hopped out of the researcher’s arms and began to dash off towards something that only it could smell. The three gave chase, allowing the creature to lead them, and their reward for such was truly great. They managed to find berries and mushrooms and with the discovery that little Swinub could sniff out such prizes, they were able to bring back their bounty and continue the expedition. Once the blizzard had passed, they were able to return to their original goals for this exploration, those being; mapping out the area, gathering information on the environment, discovering what pokémon could survive and thrive in this area, and discovering food could grow and survive under such conditions. They even managed to find a hot spring thanks to the Swinub!
When they returned to their home and made their report, along with a rough map of the area, they were showered with praise for their efforts. The little Swinub who helped them was also rewarded by becoming a sort of aide to the researcher. It was treated well and, from these reports, it seemed to remain unevolved, showing it lived a very leisurely life. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whew!
Should I be worried about what this might mean for other Pokédex entries? Or happy that one of the more... pleasant ones listed is truthful? Not for me to dwell on.
Still... it makes me wonder... something like this could be researched, tested, and proven. How many other of these entries are similar? Things to discover later.

Poke Wars: The Lapidescence (2015-2018) KILL COUNT
ID under cut
Top:
Poke Wars: The Lapidescence
Left:
Welcome to Red Counts Kills, where we tally up the victims in all our favorite media. I’m Redwood Reed, and today we’re looking at Poke Wars: The Lapidescence, the remake of Poke Wars: The Subsistence, the first one I covered in the new format.
For a refresher, and for those who didn’t read Subsistence’s entry, in the Poke Wars universe, every Pokemon has suddenly become lethally powerful overnight, and most of the wild ones have been given a thirst for blood. Society is no match for this change, but there are survivors, who we, of course, follow; in this case, Ash and his Sinnoh companions, Brock and Dawn, and their Pokemon.
Lapidescence is a higher quality fic than Subsistence, with no grammar mistakes to speak of and more though it keeps the love triangle subplot everyone always loves to see. It also changes the plot for Ash’s group going forwards, having them stay in Pallet Town for the time being instead of keeping themselves moving, as Prof. Oak never told Ash to find Gary, a much smarter move than leaving the relative safety of a former town.
It also treats the Pokemon as characters, with some scenes from their perspective, and lots of trauma and guilt for Pikachu. Because of this, and maybe because of Burt’s Hunting Log, which was still ongoing when I started this count, I’ve decided to continue counting Pokemon as kills for the Poke Wars series.
Let’s go ahead and get to the kills!
Right:
I counted 164 kills in Poke Wars: The Lapidescence, placing it in second place for highest kills, just 4 kills behind The Aura is with the Forgotten and 47 ahead of Pokemon MASTER; only counting humans drops it down to just 27 kills, putting it in between the two previous Poke Wars entries we’ve covered in 6th place, 1 kill behind The Coalescence with 28 (including Pokemon) and 12 ahead of The Subsistence with 15 (excluding Pokemon). The kills included 9 male humans, 6 female humans, and 12 unspecified humans, along with 24 male Pokemon, 6 female Pokemon, and 107 unspecified Pokemon.
With a length of 153 thousand words, there’s a kill on average every 933 words.
Golden Chainsaw for Coolest Kill goes to the Fearow that Dawn ferociously stabbed to death to protect her Swinub, ‘cause it’s a young girl ferociously stabbing a superpowered 4-foot 84-pound (1.2 m 38 kg) bird of prey to death to protect her baby pig-mammoth! Fuck yeah, go Dawn!
I have two Dull Machetes for Lamest Kills: The first goes to Ash’s Gliscor, who, after avenging his friend’s death and very nearly saving a woman hanging from an aircraft in the middle of a battle, was collateral damage in the death of Roark’s Onix just a few paragraphs before the chapter ended and he would’ve been left to an ambiguous fate, and the second goes to Tracey’s Venonat, whose offscreen death was mentioned so briefly I missed it at first.
And that’s it! I’ll see y’all next time for The Sun Soul, among the darkest Pokemon fics I care enough about to read. Til then, I’m An Armenian-American Autistic, and this has been Red Counts Kills. Be good people.

OUTSIDE OF THE TEAM THAT PALMER HAS IN THE GAMES, I’ve also given him a handful of others...
— SCRUFF [ furfrou / m ]
A stray Furfrou that Palmer caught while on a business trip to Lumiose. Palmer doesn’t bother with fancy coat styles for him, so both him and the dog have matching hairstyles - that is, hair that’s an absolute mess. He’s the only Pokémon of Palmer’s that would reasonably fit in his living room, so he gets to be out of his Poké Ball all day.
— IVORY [ mamoswine / f ]
Palmer's very first Pokémon, Ivory was a Swinub that he was given when he was 8, though technically under the ownership of his mother. She’ll do whatever she wants, as she doesn't have time to deal with her trainer’s attitude. While Palmer would love to use her in battles more, she basically refuses to get involved these days, leading him to effectively retire her a few years before the Frontier opened.
— SPIKE [ rampardos / m ]
Found as a skull fossil while Palmer was out on a little 'mining date' with Byron when they were kids. He's very very needy, whines whenever he doesn't get attention, and thinks he's a lapdog. Was a mainstay on Palmer’s team for a long time, and Palmer does bring him out for battles on rare occasion.
— GOSU [ tropius / f / shiny ]
Caught in the Great Marsh. She grows Magost berries around her neck as opposed to the Nanab berries that are more commonly seen on her species. Her wing-leaves are a bit tattered from old age. She's been retired for a long time, and tends to either nap or spend her time poking around to see what she can get her nose into.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! 💖
Hope you all like this drawing! ☺️
I happen to love it (even if the close-up has them looking at you as if they’re wondering if humans taste like swinub).
Cute pencil drawing is from M★rtínSparkles@MegaStarr7 on Twitter.
