i think online communities could benefit greatly from contextualizing taboo fantasies as what they are—play. especially for traumatized, neurodivergent, and/or disabled adults, many of us did not get the opportunity to play as children, or as adults we still need play as a regulatory, developmental tool. and even for adults who don't fall into any of those categories, adult play serves as a queering of social norms and allows us to recognize and engage with our complex individual natures. our needs as former children and as current adults are consistently intertwined. whether or not you play in the same way, it's what all of us are doing by being involved in kink, shipping, labeling, creating, etc. those who participate in taboo kink are no different from those who engage in fandom, craft, write, draw— we are all playing in ways that benefit us. it is not, and never will be, the responsibility of others to dictate which types of play are appropriate or acceptable.
