Exposition time! Pre-Inquisition, Avery is a circle mage and dreamer. Solas is in uthenera, and they meet though a mutual friend, the knowledge spirit Lore. Eventually they become friends, and meet frequently. Solas is usually able to notice Avery searching for him, and block him if need be. But Avery's only gotten more confident navigating the Fade since they've met. I mean... he's been learning from the best.
