it's been a full ten years since dragon age inquisition came out and i'm still not over the fact that you, as the player, can just give vivienne the wrong heart for her potion. she is the only companion who you can spite like this during their personal quest. not only does it involve you lying directly to her for seemingly no reason or gain whatsoever, but you still have to go out and kill a regular wyvern just to lie to her about it. like. wh.

a lot of my first thoughts about martin's characterization back when I first listened were about how he experienced the process of transition into adulthood in a weird out of joint manner, and I want to try and bring that back into the way I think about him. if he dropped out of school at 17 to become his family's breadwinner, then it stands to reason that he'd probably been filling a lot of the "head of household" roles since his early teens, but always in service to and under the direction of a parent that hated him. assuming that he got his institute job within, say, a year of dropping out, and he had to move to london on his own, being able to do all that as a teenager and not just implode (especially with no emotional support) is a significant feat, but it was all based on lies. all of his coworkers would have thought he was 4-6 years older than he was, and he could manage it, but only by making them think he was an incompetent young adult instead of an actually very capable teen. he went straight from being a kid with no time for being a kid to being an adult who was never taught how to be an adult. I think that does something to a person's ability to evaluate their own skills and importance.

about 30 hours into veilguard and while I have an essay worth of my problems w the game and how this is absolutely not ten year's worth of developing I do want to say what I do like. the maps (visuals/progression/exploration), combat, and the companions (only five of them. neve and taash annoy me and I would absolutely not recruit them if this game didn't force you to)... overall it's all right on its own but it's no dragon age game.

just going about my day idly contemplating how some of the ways hawke can interact with a romanced anders are not at all unlike how they interact with leandra (and a bit of carver too, especially with a purple hawke), and then thought about my hawke in the timeline where he romances anders and was hit straight in the face with 'was he ever actually in love, or was he just desperately trying to renegotiate with his mother's ghost in any way he could' and now i need to lie down. this is the power of dragon age 2

sometimes I wonder what bioware actually wanted to achieve when they wrote the whole anders arc and then decided how they should treat it in DA:I. like they created a guy who was helping people in need for years risking his freedom and sometimes even life and then they said you know what this guy is BAD and WRONG. actually much worse than organization that ultimately fails at its main goal which is maintaining peace and balance. oh that poor chantry lady who didn't even try to keep her favourite templar and her mass murder tendencies in check

Tell me why every fictional character who has an anxiety disorder also has at least one love interest (except for the one character who’s asexual, love you Beth March from March Family Letters). For that matter tell me why everyone I know IRL who has anxiety issues also has a partner or at least an ex. Tell me why the DSM says women with social anxiety are likely to be married but not to have a job, and I’m the reverse. Not really. Jason died pretty much at 16-17, the math is rough annoying and hard to do. But technically he got brought back around 17 (dead bodies don't get older and I will fight people on that) trained with the Ra's pretty much until his "early twenties". Made his crime empire and it's probably around 20-25 now.

If I'm not mistaken, and I think I am not, but again the math is hard and annoying. Dick was 16 when he was kicked out by Bats (or moved from college, or fired take your pick) and Jason was 12 when adopted. Jason died at 16-17 Dick was around 18 and around his early 20's when Tim was 13. Tim was 15 when Jason embarrassed himself beat his ass at the Titans Tower Tim is 17 now.

If we make the math,, Jason: 17 back. Probably 18-20 when he whooped Tim's ass (this is so fucking embarrassing). Tim was 15, he's 17 now.

Jason is probably a 21-23 year old.

Unfortunately cursed by DC artist to have a mid-life crises face, he should sue.
