Two old farts in a haunted house? One has a kid from an old marriage, the other has a banshee x-wife who tried to kill him? Like, he meets her while trying to escape his ex and she agrees to marry him instead since her fiancé admitted to not loving her except for her money. But she needs to be married to keep the house and he wants to be human, so marriage of inconvenience but they end up liking each other and stage ghost stuff for her show. Something something he lives or she dies and we get a dramatic ending.

I hate that some people who have seen Beetlejuice 2 take the case of Astrid and Jeremy as a representation of Wyler at face value to argue that Tyler is indeed a pure villain. Okay, me too, when I saw the film I joked with my friend about the superficial resemblance between the two, and that's how I understood that there would be a twist on Jeremy. Except that none of it was of the first degree. The similarities are purely superficial, and what's more, Jeremy serves as a foil to Beetlejuice, to put him in a more positive light for his own character and his relationship with Lydia. But just because Tim Burton is linked to these two works does not mean that resemblance = same thing, and so that Jemery = Tyler. Absolutely not. The characters have nothing to do with it. And frankly, Tyler's haters are really desperate to make this type of comparison, just to push the character down and try to make him a pure villain ? It's ridiculous.

Alternative Universe where Astrid Deetz and Wednesday Addams are cousins and as classic Addams family kookiness, they look identical! Lydia's mom is an Addams! 

The other direction of this AU is Astrid being Betelgeuse and Lydia's child, and Betelgeuse is an Addams. But, Richard is such a cool dude and Astrid loves him so much, and he made Lydia happy before they fell out of love. Except for the part where he ghosted (literally and figuratively) Lydia and Astrid all these years after his death, though he turned out fine in the end. So, I didn't want to completely cut him off the Deetzes life.

Since, we now know that Lydia's biological mother is still alive, maybe when she heard about Charles' death, she reached out to Lydia and Astrid after the events of the film.

Not really sure if they're estranged from one another all these years, but it's an AU, so make room for author's creative liberty with the relationship.

She finds out that Astrid can now also see ghosts, and offered/suggested for her to be transferred to Nevermore Academy when she heard that one of Astrid's Addams cousins has also started going there.

And wouldn't it just be the wackiest plot twist if Betelgeuse was appointed as the new principal? (I've got a whole ass story of how this could be possible, but maybe in the future posts.)

With Lydia now ending Ghost House, she could've been offered a place in the teaching staff. Maybe a position about communing with ghosts or negotiations or something.

Astrid and Lydia may not be aware that the new principal is Betelgeuse in disguise.

Add his Bruce Wayne glasses and boom! A changed man! Or maybe a pair of Hubane Vernum blackout glasses (subtle black and white striped motif, of course) that he refuses to take off because even with his altered appearance, personality and mannerisms, those dark circles just ain't coming off. You know what I mean? They're more stubborn than the mold/moss.

This started out as an Astrid centric AU/potential fanfic in my mind when I watched the teaser for Wednesday Season 2, with background Lydia and Betelgeuse. Then, it kinda spiralled down into Astrid living her teenage life only to be caught in this maelstrom of love-hate-sexual tension filled drama between her mom and this kinda familiar, but also not, guy that shoved himself in their new life. 😭

I may update this AU from time to time, but, feel free to add anything you want here.

After talking to Wednesday once, Lydia was a fond of the short girl. She loves her look, her stories and her cynical outlook on life. While she doesn’t necessarily agree with all of them, she can’t help but find her reminding her of her younger self. Just a lot more violent.

Wednesday on the other hand is also a fond of Lydia. But in a more romantic way. Though she doesn’t have the heart to show it and she knows Lydia couldn’t possibly reciprocate. But still finds ways to spend time with the older, goth woman. She can always day dream and fantasize but she knows nothing will happen.

She also hates Astrid. And Astrid hates Wednesday too.

Lydsday thing where BJ’s being over protective of Lydia, sense she’s the greatest and only deserves the best partner obviously, so he keeps trying to sabotage their date, but because it’s Wednesday all his efforts only make him the greatest wing man by pure accident.

Like he turns her drink to blood and Wednesday is all like how did she know B- was my favourite. He sneaks snakes in her seat and Wednesday is like what a romantic gesture for her to do.

Eventually though sense Wednesday was not only chill with all his antics but actively enjoyed them she completely has Beetlejuice’s blessing.

Loved that on Astrid’s mobile in the trailer as I am fully counting on Rory to be ‘Alleged Dad’. I have been exposed to enough in that and the teaser — especially in the couples therapy — to resign myself to the probability that he is the boyfriend/fiancé, but damn it all to hell if he is the father or husband. Let it be sperm donation or a one-night stand or whatever, some random, and I can AU my head into the delusion of Beetlejuice being the daddy. (I have not been following any non-teaser/trailer promotional material, but if his relation to the family has been confirmed in any way I would still rather not know about it and just go into the film hoping for the best. Justin Theroux’s character can have Monica Belluci's or whatever. My mind is already prepping that alternate ship.)

Also whoever that nerdy white boy is — Jenna Ortega clearly has an onscreen type. Somebody to always be her Joel Glicker. …which gives me some Wednesler hope going into Season 2 though I should learn to temper my expectations for any Tim Burton ship of mine one at a time.

Are you asking what media Lydia Deetz is from? She's from Beetlejuice. There's a few versions of her, namely the original movie by Tim Burton, a series that had plot and characterizations that were apparently different from the original movie, and the Broadway Musical, which was a blend of the first two.

The specific Lydia I shipped with Wednesday was the Musical version

A couple of you know I used to have a Beetlejuice x Lydia blog. Used to be into the fandom big time, since the movie first opened in 1988. Then, for reasons I won't get into, I lost interest in all things Beej.

But some people still read my Beej fics on AO3. And one of them sent me these photos from Beetlejuice 2. They also sent me the link to the article they appeared in.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”... Beetlejuice returns in first look at Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder

It's been 36 years, but once again, the juice is loose.

After reprising Batman in last year's The Flash, Michael Keaton returns to another iconic role in Entertainment Weekly's exclusive first look at Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to director Tim Burton's cult hit.

Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara also reprise their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively, while Burton's Wednesday star Jenna Ortega plays Lydia's daughter Astrid, and The Leftovers star Justin Theroux plays Rory. Further details on Rory remain under wraps for now — unlike the titular "bio-exorcist."

The original Beetlejuice (1988) followed the recently deceased Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin), who enlist the aid of the mischievous demon Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse (Keaton), to expel the current living residents of their home, the Deetz family. All hell, subsequently, breaks loose.

The sequel picks up decades later with a death in the family. "That's all I will say," Burton tells EW in an interview. "There's something that happens that sets things in motion." Could that be the death of Lydia's father, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones)? The director plays coy: "We'll see." One thing's for sure, Beetlejuice comes back into play.

Burton describes getting Keaton back in the classic costume and makeup as "a weird out-of-body experience."

"He just got back into it," the filmmaker behind 1989's Batman (also starring Keaton) and 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas recalls. "It was kind of scary for somebody who was maybe not that overly interested in doing it. It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, sort of like demon possession, just went right back into it."

Burton says he and Keaton have talked about a sequel on and off over the years. "Unless it felt right, he had no burning desire to do it," the director recalls. "I think we all felt the same way. It only made sense if it had an emotional hook."

Many concepts were floated around, some dating all the way back to the '80s, including a treatment set in Hawaii. "We talked about lots of different things," Burton says. "That was early on when we were going, Beetlejuice and the Haunted Mansion, Beetlejuice Goes West, whatever. Lots of things came up."

What they needed, however, was time. His actors, including Ryder and O'Hara, had all moved on to other projects after the original came out, and "nobody," Burton notes, "was really pushing for it." The filmmaker also admits he didn't initially (and still doesn't to some degree) understand the success of the first film, so he wasn't motivated to move forward with an idea that didn't excite him.

The hook he was looking for, as it turns out, revolves around Ryder's Lydia and bringing together three generations of Deetz women, including O'Hara's Delia and Ortega's Astrid. "I so identified with the Lydia character, but then you get to all these years later, and you take your own journey, going from cool teenager to lame adult, back and forth again," he explains. "That made it emotional, gave it a foundation. So that was the thing that really truly got me into it."

Other details on the film itself are being kept secret for now, other than the presence of Monica Bellucci (Spectre), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) among the cast. (Dafoe previously disclosed his role as a B-movie action star who died and became a police officer in the Afterlife.) Burton feels "a bit jinx-y" about revealing such things, given that he's still shaping the movie in the editing phase. But he does confirm he'll be using stop-motion animation to bring a lot of the classic Beetlejuice effects to the screen. "It needed a back-to-basics, handmade quality," he says. "It reenergized why I love making movies."

And what about that title? Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. "It's been, what? Thirty-five years. So it didn't feel like Beetlejuice 2 to me," Burton says. "It didn't feel like that kind of a movie. The other one I thought of, because one of my favorite Dracula movies is Dracula A.D. 1972, was Beetlejuice 2024 A.D. But this was a nice simple one."

Just don't say the name one more time, or you risk summoning the man himself.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will hit theaters on Sept. 6.
