If I had a nickel for every time I've liked a character named Nico with dark hair who was happy until their older sister tragically died and they became depressed but eventually found strength in their found family, who also usually wears all black and has dark powers and who ends up dating a blondie taller than them who can literally glow and whose powers come from the sun-- I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

No shades towards Nico as she seems like a fun character who I'll adore, but if Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman wanted to give Peter a snarky female friend, they could have used Jessica Jones instead. Unlike Nico, Peter actually have a connection to Jessica since they went to the same school together in the main continuity and interacted multiple times in the comics. Heck, the show could could have even drawn inspiration from Ultimate Spider-Man in which Jessica ran the school paper with her even trying to figure out Spider-Man identity.

Had to stop by and say I absolutely love all the covers for Marvel Pride this year, but especially this one because it shows so many ladies I adore

I think the funny thing about Peter and Nico being friends is that Nico knocked out Peter at a restaurant in the comics

I have... complicated feelings on the idea of Nico and Harry being a pairing in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

There is interesting themes there! Both have evil parents and there is some great potential for trauma-bonding and drama, as Nico is slowly proven right about her impulse about Norman being bad news even as she's proven wrong about Harry himself being bad news.

That is cool! I dig that.

And sure, Nico is queer, but you can be a queer woman while in a M/F relationship - I'd argue that it is important to remind people of that, in fact!!! And she already had an entire show where she was kissing a girl...

...and so you can always just watch that show if you want Nico content that puts her sapphic relationship in the forefront. We can have two shows on equal footing, focused on different aspects of the character. That'd be fi-

Marvel's Runaways got delisted from Disney+ in 2023.

And that... really hangs over this show's protrayal of Nico for me.

It just feels icky to me if queerness isn't going to be as important in this show as it was in Nico's previous outing that Disney abruptly killed off... and this show has a brief bi pride flag and some jokes about her liking Pearl, while her previous show focused primarily on a sapphic relationship and had not one, but two distinct gay wedding sequences (one of which is specifically a gay Wiccan wedding!).

I don't want to be unfair to Spider-Man. I am REALLY enjoying it in a lot of ways. I'm honestly pretty shocked by how strong the working-class politics are. The erasure of an unrelated show just kind of lingers over it to me...

Honestly I need the Runaways and the Young Avengers to come back to the comics and get another crossover only so we can get Tommy and Molly being big brother and little sister again
