Wonder if you're reblogging a certain tag lately because of it, or if it's just a coincidence, but I did NOT see this coming.
Wish they did this without literally bringing back the old continuity. Say wht you want about fucker (who, fun fact, recently streamed with a harassing holocaust denialist, so fuck him), but Didio by all appearances was the Adult in the Room, when it came to nixing writers from bringing back old complicated continuity just cause.
most of the stuff i've reblogged today has been my queue since i haven't been on the dash. i'm actually a couple of weeks behind on my comics so i haven't actually seen if you mean something recent, though i'm intending to power through at least the superfam stuff tonight and/or tomorrow.
i'm guessing you might mean something related to lena, though, since i've reblogged a lot of her and joshua williamson seems to have a... somewhat chaotic relationship with continuity, i've noticed.
updated now that i have read the issue: that was not the lena i was expecting.
#briar answers#strejdaking#not sure how i feel about it yet and i am a little apprehensive about this version of lex's mother#but i've generally liked williamson's take on lex so i'm willing to withhold judgment until i've seen a little more of them#i do at least love the luthor family drama tho

Tw: murder, drowning
I dreamt that i was on a freeway but i had no car but instead i was jogging and perfectly keeping up with the other cars and switching lanes and everything. There was also a tiger statue and a bike that were keeping up with the cars. I made friends with one of the drivers who was a small child, probably elementary schooler with most of his baby teeth missing, who had rolled down the windows so we could talk. The freeway let us out of the woods to a bridge that we couldn’t see past the horizon but as we were getting out of the woods i watched Red Robin get kissed by a floating woman in a white dress and drop dead. I quickly turned from a vehicle into a pedestrian and me and the bats ran ahead on the bridge but were stopped by another woman in a white dress who shackled us to the bridge to be picked off by more of the spirits. I was chained up next to spoiler with signal on the other side of her so i was only paying attention to them when the lady came. I watched her kill duke and then i decided to grab Steph and drown her, forcing the spirit to come into the water so i could also drown her. The rest of the team had died except for dick and damian so we ran away into the sewers where red hood was hiding out with his goons, who looked like the npcs from the hotel from wreck-it-Ralph’s game but life sized so they went up to about hood’s waist and their faces were probably wider or as wide as his torso. Anyways, jason did some posturing about always being prepared and knowing better than the bats and then he went to show us his plan to deal with the spirits. He had a whole area dedicated to where he had something presentation set up for us but he couldn’t get the lights over the cubby to work so he just went around banging on the walls and ceiling and cussing at both the wiring and his goons and himself for like a minute straight - enough time for kori and Roy to fly in and also get huffed at but roy just laughed. Just as the tension from waiting for both his plan and the punchline got to be too much i was RUDELY awaken by my father and i will now spend the rest of the day moping over how i killed Stephanie and didn’t even get to hear how we were gonna kill the angel/harpy/sirens.
#the woman on the bridge was black and the woman i murdered was biracial and had natural hair so at least the afterlife is inclusive#batfam#i don’t think the others knew i had sacrificed steph i think they thought the woman got her#i can only assume Cass sacrificed herself for her brothers because I wasn’t paying attention i was too busy killing one of my favs#i think batgirl!babs was also there but I’m not sure about bruce because nightwing seemed to be leading them#jason obviously wasn’t there he was being dramatic in the sewers#to be fair i had just read a crack fic where Jason’s drama was dialed up to 100#so he kept angsting about everything and quoting Shakespeare and ranting about literature#so that probably influenced the dream#it’s good it’s called ‘Happy Families Kill People Too’ I recommend as a crack fic/pick me up#although there are a few tasteless jokes like making fun of ocd or drawing an Afro on a picture of lex luthor

Unfortunately with the p & f reader. I think you’re missing out so much hijinks.
For example:
- luthor thinking reader is his kid and petitioning a paternity test to try and take custody
-or giving a full scholarship to said reader and internship at LuthorCorp
-the league of assassins coming after reader when everyone is out of the house and reader casually home alone-ing their way to safety. (Damian knew, still has no evidence, has no idea what reader did with the bodies)
-reader building a complete android copy of Alfred so he can go on vacation and have help around the house
-_doing the same to Damian for mild psychological warfare. (He started it)_
-improving the bat gadgets because reader is annoyed when they don’t work as well, and gaslighting the family into thinking Lucius Fox did it
-reader making an artificial Lazarus pit but only for pets.
-winning back to back science fairs, being shown in magazines, and has scholarships galore but the family still doesn’t notice. (Much to Alfred and Damian’s rage)
-it taking Damian being nice to her and trying to be a good sibling to actually get the rest of the family’s attention and to reveal her semi secret genius.
this is brilliant!! all of this!!! love how this leans a bit more into the malicious p&f! reader version rather than oblivious one. few things i want to comment:
i cannot even imagine (i can, actually) how bruce would react to lex luthor just waltzing in and saying hey. what if we, high-profile CEOs of huge companies, go to court over the paternity and custody of your child who i think might be mine? that's absolutely not going to be a media scandal :)
this implies either that:
1) lex luthor has fucked p&f! reader's mother
2) p&f! reader's mother has fucked both lex luthor and bruce wayne. who is she.
or
3) lex luthor is aware he cannot be p&f! reader's bio dad but just decided he wanted to try and steal bruce wayne's kid one day because of their brilliance and potential, and that's such a petty?? absurd thing to do just because???
but unfortunately for luthor (and any other villains), p&f! reader is a nepobaby who can very well work in their father's company if they want or need an internship and that's where bruce is sending them. no such thing as "i want to make my own way in the world" for p&f! reader in this one. bruce will not let them work anywhere else.
(on another note, it's so fun writing about a reader who is filthy rich for a change. a villain comes up to them offering full scholarships and a promising internship in their evil companies but like. their father is literally bruce wayne.)
and like. still on the paternity drama thing. lex luthor can always handle that privately, but why would he? and something like that wouldn't stay under wraps, tbh. lex luthor better sleep with one eye open from then on, he might find wayne enterprises has acquired a sudden interest in absorbing lexcorp…
i think i've answered an ask regarding the league of assassins? not sure, but a "home alone" setting for neglected! reader would make such a good one-shot fic in general (christmas is just around the corner too!). i don't think p&f! reader would kill anyone but they would sure know to defend themselves and immobilize any threats through their gadgets and last-minute traps.
there's two possibilities as to how this could end,
1) batfam comes back from whatever mission/vacation they went on to find the manor in complete disarray and a bunch of unconscious bodies piled up on the garage with p&f! reader just standing there, unphased.
2) batfam comes back from whatever mission/vacation they went on to find the manor just the way they left it, perhaps even a bit more tidy. there's no bodies, the footage has been deleted, damian knows the league of assassins has been in the manor but once again, cannot prove it. he's fuming but has a newfound respect for their blood sibling. roll credits.
realistically, they would be made aware of people raiding the house through its security system and come back running, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's p&f! reader we're talking about here.
as for the gadgets, i can imagine p&f! reader finding out or figuring out their family are vigilantes except the batfam doesn't know they know, and so they come and go the batcave when no one is looking. improves the gadgets out of pure boredom and leaves. except they do it in a way that is so subtle that the batfam take a certain time to consider there's someone messing with their stuff. it's like that one prank where you just keep replacing a person's pen before it runs out of ink.
"reader making an artificial Lazarus pit but only for pets."
that's essentialy pet sematary by stephen king, and we all know how that went. evil little undead pets running around the manor trying to murder the batfam because... p&f! reader was feeling bored and unhinged, i suppose.
you're right about damian being one of the reasons why the batfam starts paying attention to p&f! reader. alfred has been trying to get them to notice their cast-aside sibling for a while now, but damian being close to reader (trying to bust them or just hanging out) makes it impossible to ignore them. first, by associating with damian, and second by being a gifted child who has been pulling dangerous, insane and impossible stunts that deny all logic.
but looking back, it should be obvious. their room is filled with trophies, medals, rosettes, newspaper/magazine cutouts speaking of their achievements, were featured on the metropolis as well as gotham news multiple times, and pretty much everyone seems to know what they're up to. and yeah. "they feel pretty bad" is an understatement.
damian noticed, though. he might gotten into trouble himself for participating in some of those stunts (which he thinks is unfair), but at least he can brag about being a decent sibling and triumphantly say "shame on you" to everyone else but alfred.
#asks.#long post.#yandere batfam#yandere batfamily#yandere batfam x reader#yandere batfamily x reader#thank you for the ask!! and omg all of those ideas are amazing.

Oh... my god? Ghost Reporters.
Imagine it. Their office is in the Zone. They literally FEED of hunting for The Next Big Scoop! And Revealing The Truth! Every honest reporter that got silenced for getting a little too close to the facts. The bloody, beating, heart of societies underbelly.
Every Lois Lane that had no Kryptonian to stop some rich and powerful jackals putting them in the ground.
Well Death sure didn't stop THEM! They STILL want answers! But now they have co-wokers. Oh~ and SUPERPOWERS! And best part?
The newly appointed KING is going too and from the living world. That must mean it's okay now, RIGHT? Your majesty? You're not a RAGING HYPOCRITE, aaaaare you? :) 🎤
And... look. Danny knows full well what these piranhas are up too. He's not stupid. But Madeline Fenton raised a lot of things. Fool? Not one of um. That a LOT of reporters with sharp, sharp teeth and bloodlust in their eyes. He wants to half-live.
He compromises. Illusion of control and all that. Yeah, yeah, they all tooootally respect his authority etc. Give them Them Scoop! He, wisely, gets the fuck out of the way. Whoosh! Off they go!
Thats.... probably gonna be a problem. *siiiiiips his morning coffee* But it's not HIS problem. Not right now.
And? Suddenly all these politicians and business leaders are getting fucking AMBUSHED. Oh? You thought you'd get soft ball "aren't I a man of the people. Buy oil!" Bullshit questions? HA! Where were you on June 27th, 1978, at-
And "according to YOUR words, exact quote as follows-"
Just? They BEAT the leader with the STICK. "Oh but you'll lose access". They'd love to see HOW! They can go through WALLS! Answer the question, coward. "Your gonna make powerful enemies!" Oh nooooo, what are they gonna DO?
Shoot us TWICE?
Hey Mr. Family Values! How's the three mistresses your wife doesn't know about?? "No comment"? That's fine. We already have THEIRS. >:D Good luck with your upcoming election!
And like? As newspapers are shutting down and turning clickbait all across the country? This ONE(1) tiny, middle of nowhere town? Somehow has a horrid, horrid, ARMY of Satan's own Reporters. All apparently willing to die for the News. Throwing themselves at dictators and Supervillians alike.
"We see no God here but the Truth" is literally their papers MOTTO.
The damn thing is basicly a BRICK. You get a paperback of news. Entire planet AND THEN SOME. How?! How are they reporting, IN DETAIL, on the break down of talks between two planets 16 galaxies over? Hal says it's accurate. But what Earth paper would even HAVE that information?
And?? The whole town treats this as normal? There are human children, complaining about the weight of papers, because it makes their paper routes a pain in the ass. Soccer moms discussing alien celebrity drama. Farmers muttering over foreign unrest and how it will impact their corn harvest.
Fucking Lex Luthor, clearly deciding to roll with it, coming to sign himself up for a paper. Gaining a new life long Nemesis upon meeting Vladimir Master, whom he decides is both hot and unbearable. Someone is heard shouting "oh god, there's TWO OF THEM!"
And?? Look. Clark isn't MAD. Or JEALOUS. Nor is he in a secret Reporting War with Jerry from the Amity Chronicle. Because that would be petty and childish. He's just SAYING, maybe they should check the place out!
Maybe Jerry is a DICK and deserves it, is all. (Lois stop laughing.)

If Jason Todd really wants to kill the Joker, he should become a prosecutor.
Gotham CITY (emphasis added) makes no sense to me. It is the only CITY in all of DC comics where a supervillain goes to an asylum and not prison. Almost every supervillain goes to Arkham for criminal insanity instead of prison. Blackgate exists. Iron Heights exists. It's so bad that the idea of Bruce Wayne beating up the mentally ill became such a prevalent misconception of the character and Arkham became a shorthand for Gotham's supermax prison.
In the United States, there are four major tests for criminal insanity or not guilty by reason of insanity defense.
The M'Naghten Rule, Irresistable Impulse, Duhram Rule, and the Model Penal Code. Each STATE in the country uses at least a variation of this. Without getting into the weeds of them, the main takeaway is that they test wether:
1. The defendant had a mental illness or defect.
2. The mental illness or defect made them unable to conform to the law.
3. The mental illness or defect makes them unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of their action.
Only a handful of Batman villains fall under these criteria. Off the top of my head, Harvey Dent and the Ventriloquist. Characters like Ivy, Freeze, Manbat, or Bane don't fall into any of these criteria.
Joker does not fall in these criteria either. He knows what does is wrong. He isn't compelled to do what he's doing because of his mental illness or defect if one such exists. If Jason wanted him dead, he could just be a prosecutor and argue against Joker's criminal insanity.
But what about him breaking out?
That's why I highlighted the words City and State. These laws on what defines Criminal Insanity are either in State Statutes or Federal ones. There are no local city ordinances that define criminal insanity because the State legislature controls that. That means if Washington State follows the Model Penal Code, then Seattle applies it the same as Spokane.
Look at every city in the DC Universe. Villains go to prison, never asylums. It only ever applies in Gotham. In some versions, Gotham is across the bay from Metropolis. So, assuming they share a stare, then Metropolis should be sending people like Luthor, Toyman, and Livewire to an asylum too since their laws for what criminal insanity is should be the same as Gotham's (same state and all). But no. Gotham is a legal anomaly.
Jason as an attorney can advocate for a uniform application of State statute. Maybe even convince the State to appeal the trial court's judgment regarding Joker's defense.
One could argue that Gotham is corrupt. Sure. But there's no business sense for the local crime families to lobby for all the costumed freaks to go to one easily-breakable asylum instead of prison. Cobblepot being sent there makes sense in that reading, but Joker?! Plus, we're talking about a whole State, not a just a city. So it'd be unlikely that a handful of Gotham crime families can convince the State to let Joker go to Arkham. Especially if the State can somehow resist Luthor enough to send him to prison.
But how does this kill the Joker? The Death Penalty. Joker would be more than eligible for it. Although, the Death Penalty does take a long time before it gets actually conducted.
I just think it's a lost opportunity not to have a Batman legal drama where Jason becomes a prosecutor hellbent on sending the Joker, and all other villains, to prison. It would give Bruce a moral dilemma where on hand, Jason is doing everything by the books, but his intent is to kill others using the death penalty. What should Bruce do? Should Batman intervene? Should Bruce lobby for the removal of the Death Penalty? Should Bruce provide Joker with legal counsel to combat Jason?

Fancasting for a Trigun live-action tv series/movie!! I know we got just Trigun Stampede, but we can’t let Cowboy Bebop get a live action and not Trigun right??
For all my selections I would say about 75-80% are actors I have seen in one or more of their most well known roles. For anyone else I narrowed down to 2-4 options and I did extra research into their filmography, interviews to hear their voices and general vibe, etc. And I also looked at what kind of roles they trended towards—sci-fi/fantasy and superhero media giving them bonus points.
See below for info about the actors and my runner up choices for each character. I included tidbits like their age, height, and notable roles.
For Vash and Knives I wanted to first look for real life identical twins. After some research, I believe I found a fitting pair. Cole and Dylan Sprouse, best know for their childhood roles in the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Although I don’t think I knew their adult roles as well as their Zack and Cody days, that real twin dynamic just adds that extra layer.
Of the two, I found Cole having a softer look, and lately it appears he’s been going with black hair which seemed fitting if we think about black-haired Vash at the end of TriMax. Dylan’s look has just that different sharpness and edginess that I slotted him to Knives.
Ruby Cruz (Kit Tanthalos, Disney+’s Willow) is a very talented young woman and recently made a feature length movie debut as Hazel Callahan in Bottoms (2023) and will be starring in an upcoming rom-com The Threesome. (See notes about edit below.)
Milly was a tricky one for me. I have a couple of runners up below. My current pick is Mina Sundwall, especially for her role as Penny Robinson in Netflix’s space family drama Lost in Space.
Although I’m on board with the HC that Wolfwood is Latinx, I had to go with famous werewolf Jacob Black from Twilight, Taylor Lautner. I got a couple other choices below too.
Liam Hemsworth (or Chris idkkkk). Nuff said?
Rem was a bit hard to choose. I had to go with Candice Patton as a personal big fan of her role as Iris West in The Flash as a DC fan. She has just the right oh-crap-I-have-kids-I-am-not-prepared-at-all motherly acting vibe down pat that is essential for Rem.
Despite the fact that Christopher Daniel Barnes is always smiling in photos, his breath of filmography makes him such a good fit for wise Drunkle Roberto.
Being so effing hyped about Nicholas playing Lex Luthor in Superman Legacies (2025) he has the perfect mix of heroic and villain roles for Legato’s psychotic righteousness. And he’s already had blue hair (and fur all over his whole body) as Hank “Beast” McCoy, c’mon too easy.
Zazie Beetz… that couldn’t have been a coincidence? Like Studio Orange must have know about this actress when they worked on the Beast’s revamped design. For a second option I’d probably pick a child/adolescent actor but Zazie can pretty much take whatever form they want, so why not both? Edit: I’m going with Scarlett (Trixie from Lucifer). Very very talent young woman. She’s funny, smart, sassy.
Role: Vash the Stampede
Actor: Cole Sprouse
Age: 31
Height: 6’0”
Best known role: Cody Martin ( The Suite Life of Zack & Cody)
Runner-up Actor: Mason Dye (Jason Carver, Stranger Things)

Best known role: Zack Martin ( The Suite Life of Zack & Cody)
Runner-up Actor: Christopher Lowell (Sebastian “Bash” Howard, GLOW and Jess, How I Met Your Father)
———
Role: Meryl Stryfe
Actor: Ruby Cruz
Age: 23
Height: 5’3”
Best known role: (Kit Tanthalos, Disney+’s Willow)
Edit: I swapped Ruby Cruz in for Bex as I learned how far along Bex was in their gender journey. As much as I respect Bex’s journey and the gender representation is important, I still want to pick someone I feel leans more feminine for Meryl.
Runner-up Actor: tbd, maybe Christine Lee or Ana Yi Puig
———
Role: Nicholas D. Wolfwood
Actor: Taylor Lautner
Age: 32
Height: 5’8”
Best known role: Jacob Black (Twilight movies)

I love Olympic fencer!Lena especially since its basically canon? And while fencer Lena and my preferred headcanon of Decathelete (or Triathelete) Kara flirting up a storm in the Olympic village is *chefs kiss* I can’t help but wonder…what if that’s the route Lena took instead of Lcorp? So we have Supergirl maybe swooping in to save some event from some disaster then sticking around a bit to watch and suddenly ends up just *fascinated* with fencing for *some* reason (wink wink nudge nudge). Honestly could go either way with drama! She’s been using her moms last name and gets exposed as a Luthor during the games! Or comedy! Yeah she’s a Luthor but she spent her entire life in Switzerland or something fencing and is perceived as a jock so no one even thinks she’s *that* kind of Luthor (the running joke in her small circle of friends is that she’s the dumb cousin in the family). We have quite a few AUs where Lena grows up a witch in canon but I don’t think there’s one where she went the Olympic athlete route instead.
This is pretty involved in the details and what ifs, but I will say that Lena the Jock reigns supreme.
I wonder if post finale Lena would return to her sports hobbies. Would she return to fencing, or try something new? Or both?
If anyone is familiar with the Xena/Dar&Kerry stories, Dar returned to her roots as a martial artist champion (TKD, I think?), so returning to Lena's roots as a competitive fencer would be cool. But also something more... direct? Like TKD. Or would she prefer a more self-centered sport, like figure skating?
If Lena wanted to keep it casual, would it be something she and Kara could share? Aerial dance/performance could be a cool partner sport, but maybe they would find something where Kara wouldnt have to accommodate for her alien body density so much?
Sorry this derailed, but now I'm thinking. Which dangerous. Come join me in the sandbox yall!
#supercorp#lena the jock#post finale#partner sports?#i mean... there is dance#but maybe something more unique?#idk#come throw some pasta with me#see what sticks

2024 Fivela Appreciation Week Day 3- Siblings
***Picture placement is not to scale! But I didn’t want the pictures to be too tiny so it is what it is. 🤷🏻♀️*** @fivelaappreciationblog
So, this is a rough break down of how I think the family (+ the Handler, for shits & giggles) would react to Fivela. Some I feel a little more confident about, but most of these are kind of guess work off the bits we get to see & what I know of the characters (I’m especially uncertain for Lila’s family, since we don’t know too much about their characters). Though, of course, it’s all still just an opinion.
Diego- I think for obvious reasons, he would be the most upset and probably for the longest period of time. I do think he would eventually come around, though. But it would likely take quite a long period of time and/ or some kind of big gesture or sacrifice before he truly, whole heartedly can forgive and forget.
Allison- From what we’ve seen of her character, I feel like Allison would be the second most judgmental of the siblings. I don’t think she would necessarily be overly mean to Five or Lila, (50/50 on that for me) but I don’t think she would really be happy for them either, at least not at first. To me, she would probably have a few snide remarks behind their backs, maybe a lecture or two to their faces, but she wouldn’t be exceptionally hateful either- just very judgy.
I also think she’d get over it once the three were able to settle things/ move on and the kids were taken care of, possibly even getting annoyed at Diego if he dragged on too long. (I definitely think she’d be more “on Diego’s side” but if his upset/ attitude went on way too long, then she’d probably tell him to get over himself too).
Ben- I don’t think either sparrow Ben nor umbrella Ben would much care, and as such would probably be pretty neutral. I think umbrella Ben would be a bit more sympathetic to both sides, but would subscribe to the philosophy of “you do you” at the end of the day. I think sparrow Ben would revel in the chaos and drama, but isn’t especially attached to either side and could sympathize with all of them if they caught him in a softer mood (probably not until after making a few jokes at their expense, though).
Luthor- He would, in my opinion, be very sympathetic to both sides. I think Luthor would be one of the happiest for Five & Lila, but also sad for Diego. He’d listen to, and see the points made by all three, and his main focus would probably just be trying his best to just keep the family together.
Klaus- I think Klaus would be mostly happy for them and fairly supportive, but he would probably have a couple comments to make, too. Nothing truly mean, but something along the lines of how he asked, “Is it Vanya? It’s usually Vanya.” in season 2 or how he said, “I don’t much like that one” about Lila in early season 3 but wasn’t really mean to her either. I think he’d be sympathetic to Diego too, and would lend him an ear when he needed.
Viktor- I think Viktor would also be one of the happiest for Five and Lila, but he doesn’t really seem to want to be around his siblings all that often, either, so I dunno how much he’d really be around to give support to them. I think he’d feel bad for Diego too, and be there if he ever reached out, but he’d rather see Five and Lila happy than all three miserably trying to stick to the status quo just because that’s what’s expected of them.
So the rest of these aren’t technically siblings, but I thought it would be fun to do the rest of the family (+ the Handler) so they’re below!
The Handler- She would absolutely hate Fivela. I think she’d see Lila as trying to steal her thunder & favorite toy, and Five as purposefully vexing her by going after her daughter. She’d make it all about her somehow, but also try to use their relationship to her advantage. (Side note, nothing’s ever explicitly stated about Five and the Handler, but she gave off majorly creepy and controlling vibes, so that’s my headcanon on how she views Five)
Reginald- I think Reginald would truly be neutral in that he would take this as further proof that he’s better than the siblings (in his eye) and as such wouldn’t be on either side of the argument. He’d probably think it was messy and that they were all dramatic, but that their feelings are what they are and “why aren’t they all more focused on more important things?”
He strikes me as someone who is kind of blind to his hypocrisy (his feelings for Abigail far outweigh any feelings of theirs and so Five and Lila falling for each other given their relation to Diego is foolish not based in romance, and Diego being upset about the situation is pointless not understandable). Mostly, he wouldn’t care except to add it to reasons why he thinks he is so much better than his children.
Abigail- I think she’d be fairly happy for them, though sympathetic to Diego’s pain as well. I think if she was near them she’d push for them all to make nice, but wouldn’t really put much effort into it unless they happened to be near by or somehow fit into her plans.
Ronnie & Anita Gill- I think they would be mildly concerned, confused & disappointed, maybe even a little judgy, but only for a short time. They’d listen to Lila, maybe talk to Five as well, and while they’d still be concerned about the situation, they’d be a little more supportive of them each day that passed, because at the end of the day they just want Lila (& her kids) to be happy.
Aunt Banu, Uncle Inny, Cousin Ronnie, & any other relatives of Lila- I think they would be judgy as hell. Constantly questioning why and nitpicking, and making comments about what she should do. They’d definitely still be there for Lila and her parents and kids, though, and would help out as needed, but they’d just be nosey and nagging at the same time.
Grace (umbrella’s mom)- I think she’d be mostly neutral, but perhaps a bit more sympathetic to Diego’s pain than the other neutral people. Happy for Five (& Lila) being happy, but she’d probably have more interactions with Diego & be his shoulder to cry on.
Pogo- Another person who is mostly neutral. I think he’d be glad to see Five happy, but would be sympathetic to Diego as well. I think he’d push for them all to get along, but in a patient kind of way.
Grace (Diego& Lila’s kid)- I think she’d be more upset at first because it’s her family and it’s a lot of change for her. I think she’d eventually realize that her mom is happier (& eventually Diego probably too) but it’d be a bit hard for her to adjust to. I think her acceptance would depend a lot on what she hears/ understands from everyone around her.
If she’s picking up on Diego being angry or if she gets the impression that her parents’ split is solely because of Five, I could see her taking longer to be okay with everything. But if Lila and Diego had been constantly fighting and Gracie was hearing that, & now they’re a little calmer with each other now that they’ve split, I could see her being much faster. Mostly, I think it depends on what she’s picking up from those around her (& if they’re in the middle of apocalypse things or not).
The twins- I think they’re young enough that it wouldn’t affect them as much. They’d be upset if they wanted one or both parents, but it’s more of a day to day type of thing rather than truly understanding what’s going on & being upset about it.
Jennifer- [So she’s not technically family, but I’m including her since she had the Durango and was in season 4.] I feel like we didn’t really get to know much about Jennifer, but from what we did get I think of her as a no-nonsense kind of person that cares, so I think she might be a little judgmental in a “That’s pretty fucked up” kind of way at first, but quickly get over it and could be more accepting/ supportive after learning more about the siblings and Five and Lila’s situation… I could also see her only thinking that way or talking to Ben about it, but outwardly being “it’s none of my business, you do you”.
Given enough time, I think everyone would eventually come around to accepting Five and Lila, but there are some who would be upset longer & some who would have more comments to make to or about them first.

the house of l: best episode of cwsg? discuss
You inspired me to look up clips from that ep. So good! Surely in the top 5.
4b in general had such a run of really strong episodes leading up to and including the finale and reveal. The stakes - the storytelling - the suspense - the humor - the epic intertwined El-Luthor-Danvers family drama!
One of many ways this episode punched me in the heart: the irony and tragedy of Red Daughter retaining a faint memory of the name Alex and thinking Lex was her beloved family … UGH.
And this The House of L deleted scene? Far from pedestrian … so much insight we get from their dialogue. Back when Lex was a genuinely compelling supervillain and most every scene with him in it was a Must Watch.
youtube
I feel a rewatch of 4b coming, now that I’ve had time to digest my annoyance with and disappointment in S5 and 6. :)

"In the end, you can only count on blood."
Lena stood there in Lex's stronghold, staring him down as best she could, and it was still pathetic. He wanted to tell her, to see her face crumble as he explained to her in exquisite detail how weak and pathetic she was. Good God, the woman had given herself a glow-up before confronting him. Who goes to their supervillain brother's secret base, intent on challenging him, in heels? With that shade of makeup? She was still playing the sexpot, unthinkingly using her "advantages" the way that their father had trained her to, when he'd first used her to distract a rival at the negotiating table. At the time, Lex had been disgusted, and confronted the old man privately, earning himself a few bruises.
Over a decade later, he wondered how he hadn't seen it sooner. So desperate for belonging, for approval. Beneath the power suits and fuck me pumps, she was just a little girl crying for her teddy bear, endlessly searching for someone to pat her widdle head and tell her it was okay, and she'd latched onto the Kryptonian of all people. He understood her proclivities, even if he didn't share them, or much interest in the act generally, and on an aesthetic level he knew why Lena was drawn to Kara Danvers, but how could she be so dense?
No, he had to play this properly. He'd written this little drama piece by piece, laying out the steps for her to follow, just as he'd manipulated her so many times at the chess table. All he had to do was pick up the remote on the table beside him and show her the truth, watch her crumble, and when she was reduced to rubble on the floor, rebuild her properly. She'd be his apprentice yet, be worthy. For all her faults, his half-sister was the closest thing he'd ever to know an equal, a worthy partner.
So worthy was she, in fact, that she smoothly swept back her jacket, and in a practiced motion, drew the revolver she carried in a basket-weave, FBI-cant holster on her strong side. Lex recognized it; he gave it to her. A Smith and Wesson J-Frame Ladysmith with custom ebony wood grips. The very one that Lex had gifted Lena on her twenty-first birthday, having already taught her to shoot on the grounds of the family estate.
"This is no time for theatrics, dear sister," said Lex.
Lena responded by shooting him twice, missing his heart. The pain was towering, enormous, and he was on the ground before he realized he'd fallen. Nothing had ever hurt this much.
In his usual detached way, he assessed. Gurgling when he breathed and copper on his breath: she'd hit a lung. When he pulled his hand back from one of the wounds, the blood was a rich, earthy red. Gutshot, then, too. Sadistic, if it was intentional. From the way her hand was shaking it probably wasn't.
"The world will never be safe with you in it," Lena choked out, still holding the gun in front of her as if it might shield her from what she'd done.
"Pathetic," Lex choked out. "Just as I thought." The gurgling came harder now.
He was going to die; that was inevitable. But he'd still get his licks in. They probably thought the Harun-El, or Red Daughter, or the Lexosuit were his master-stroke, but no, it was more intimate. More subtle. He willed himself to draw breath, commanded by force of will that blood keep carrying oxygen to his brain. Despite the agony ripping through him at every breath, he carried on. This made it worth it.
Oh, yes, she'd killed Lex Luthor, but he'd destroy her.
"What will you be without me? You have no one, and nothing."
She seemed confused. How had Lex ever thought that this bovine, dull creature could be worthy of ruling the world beside him? She had some low cunning and a technician's aptitude for laboratory work, but she was no peer of his.
"Go back and cry to your friends," he croaked. "All of them have been mocking you. Alex and Jimmy, your boyfriend, and that little alien runt, and her most of all. The truth was right in front of your face."
He managed to reach the remote and activate the monitors, relief flooding through him, cooling the heat of his dying. Lex slumped back, watching Lena watch her world unravel.
"They've been lying to you all this time, her most of all. Kara Danvers." He pronounced the name carefully, adding the proper Kryptonian inflection to Kara's name.
This. This was the thrust that ended the duel, the cutting stroke, the killing blow. He watched her eyes widen.
"Even your own mother has been lying to you. It's been right there the whole time."
Lena looked at him, the gun drooping in her hand. She looked at the monitor, back to him. Her expression hardened, twisting into a scowl. Perfect. She might even still be able to save him. He knew she was worthless now, of course, but she would be easily to manipulate and once she followed his instructions and healed his wounds, the guilt would take over and-
She was still looking at him. He met her gaze.
"Kara Danvers is Supergirl," Lex croaked out.
Lena's voice was heavy with sadness.
"I know."
Fuck.
Lena pulled the trigger. Lex saw a flash but heard no sound, felt no pain. It was simply over.
It was, but he wasn't.
Somehow, he did not hear, but sensed Lena leaving, not by the clack of her heels on concrete or the explosive rush of pressure as she stole his damned portal watch, but by some other means he didn't understand.
This was odd.
Lex hadn't counted on there being an afterlife. Nor had he considered that it would be so pedestrian and mundane, and that he'd end up staring down at his own body from above. The tunnel of light was probably next; going into said light was most likely, at least for Lex Luthor, an amazingly terrible idea.
This was truly strange. He supposed he should have been in shock and awed at the entire situation, but all he could really feel was a kind of confusion. Looking at his body was like walking the halls of the first boarding school he'd attended, trying to reconcile the memories of a child with the physicality and perspective of an adult who felt too large for those spaces.
In other words, had he really been that short? Had no one had the fortitude to tell him how silly that beard looked?
Lex waited, and started to wonder. Now if this was the afterlife, staring at his own corpse, that would be oddly fitting, in an ironic Greek hell sort of way. He could appreciate the poetry.
Out of of the corner of his eye -or the fringes of his bodyless, formless perception- Lex spotted movement and turned towards it instinctively. A wisp of thick vapor was snaking under the door, curling through the gap. Tendrils of the mist slithered along the floor, spreading and flowing until it surrounded the corpse, which Lex was now more comfortable thinking of as the body rather than my body.
Said mist was filling the room, rising higher and higher. Lex felt a peculiar tug, a nonphysical pull, a kind of involuntary lunge back towards his fallen body. As the mist grew heavier, it reduced the looped footage of Kara using her powers at L-Corp to a glowing blur behind the swirling fog.
Had Lena set the bunker on fire before she left? Perhaps she'd meant to giving him a Viking funeral. He rather liked that.
What he did not like was the jarring sensation of gurgling, pain swelling in his lungs in a molten wave that climbed up his throat, burning its way into a ragged, wet cough that filled his nostrils with metallic stink as surely as if he'd shoved pennies up his nose. He took another breath, or tried to.
Pain rocketed through his body. It felt as if invisible fingers were crudely ripping his wounds closed, knitting the flesh not only carelessly but with deliberate, sadistic glee. Lex cried out and tasted blood on his tongue.
There was a cold floor, hard beneath him. He blinked a few times, the world coming into blurry existence before his now-functional eyes. When he took another breath, the pain had abated, but the memory of it was a non-physical ache, a drag on his lungs nevertheless. As his eyes focused, he realized he was staring up at a new ceiling, in unknown surroundings. The arched stone above his head made him think castle. Maybe he'd been somehow carried off to a bunker in Kaznia, and was about to be interrogated.
Lex sat up.
He was in a castle, indeed. There was a thick carpet under his backside, doing little to protect him from the bitter cold of a hard stone floor. Elaborate tapestries hung on the walls, and in front of them stood heavy, solid bookcases that showed deep age in the wood and craftsmanship, the shelves packed with a vast number of volumes, all of them finely bound. Lex took a few tentative steps and looked over the spines. Most were unmarked. One had a cover of a strange, pale leather that felt loathsome to the touch.
Scanning the room, Lex decided he need to figure out where he was, who brought him here, and attempt to deduce why. It was important, even vital, to project a constant air of control, even if he had no idea what the hell was going on. He'd feel out his captor and find the best posture to start influencing them and guiding them down paths he had already calculated, towards the inevitable goal of escape, and if possible, control. Master of circumstances was Lex's central drive. He didn't play his pieces, he played his opponent; the game itself was merely an exercise in satisfying his intellectual vanity by minimizing the number of moves between opening and checkmate.
So, he assessed.
Wealth. Power. Aristocracy. Those were his first thoughts. The person who owned this place had vast resources and considered themselves vastly important, and to some degree they were right. On the wall opposite the bookcases, Lex found an assortment of arms and armor, full suits of plate on arming racks and heavy longswords and axes, all lovingly cared for.
The room was dominated by a painting. Lex paused to study it; the faded oils depicted, as through a dark glass, a striking young woman of great beauty, dressed in rich regalia. The artist had given her a lively visage, with curious, expressive eyes that were somehow full of mute appeal. She seemed familiar, though the aging of the painting made it difficult for Lex to say how.
Lex heard a scuff of leather and realized he wasn't alone.
At the far end of the room stood a tall man in rich, elaborate, and very antiquated robes and a heavy cloak. Very pale, he had an aristocratic look about him, with jet black hair worn long, swept back from a pronounced windows peak. In one hand, he delicately held a fine golden goblet, and in the other, he regarded some kind of elaborately decorated card; Lex at first thought of the tarot, but it wasn't part of the major or minor arcana, and he didn't recognize the design at all.
He turned and met Lex's gaze.
Lex flinched back and immediately loathed himself for it. He hadn't reacted like this to anyone in years, not since the first time the Kryptonian had paid him a visit. He held the stranger's gaze firmly, though it felt like nails pulled across his skin.
There was an expectant pause. Lex remained still, schooling his features.
"You are Alexander Luthor," the stranger said, gently placing his cup on the broad desk in front of him, settling in a rare open space amongst books and papers.
"My friends call me Lex."
He looked up, considering Lex briefly.
"I have brought you here, and raised you from death at great expense, for a singular purpose, Master Luthor."
Lex spread his hands in a conciliatory gesture.
"What purpose is that?"
"You will tell me everything you know about this woman."
He held something out, clearly expecting Lex to cross the room and accept it. Lex briefly weighed which option was best- to appear obedient and begin his manipulations that way, or force the other man to move from his position of presumed authority and reframe the conversation between them as an exchange between equals.
The moment stretched too long. The stranger's expression darkened slightly. Lex crossed the gap and accepted what turned out to be an eight by ten photograph. He looked at the familiar face.
"Her name is Kara Danvers," said Lex. The photo was her headshot from the CatCo Media website.
God, had no one ever put a picture of Supergirl in Google and done a reverse image search? It was so obvious. She was even more careless than Kent!
"This I know," the man said, taking the picture back. He studied it, lovingly dragging one finger down the edge.
"You seem rather taken with her," said Lex.
The stranger looked up, and carefully slipped the photograph between the pages of one of his books.
"She is important to my plans. I must bring her here, safely and securely, to my home."
Lex couldn't help it, he really couldn't. He barked out a laugh.
"Do you have any idea what you're dealing with? Kara Danvers is Supergirl."
The stranger's eyes flashed with fury, and for a moment, there was something absolutely bestial in his face, his features flowing and changing, twisting into something monstrous and carnivorous.
"It is you who have no idea what you are dealing with, little man," he said.
This wasn't going well.
"I'd be glad to help you, if you help me. I'm sure we can work out a-"
The man moved as fast as a damned Super. He blurred around the desk, suddenly just there, and whipped his hand across Lex's throat. At first, he thought he'd been slapped, but the pain was too sharp, too vital. A hot gush followed it, and Lex realized he was about to die. Again. His throat had been cut.
His knees hit the stone floor and he clutched at his neck, desperate to staunch the flow, but it sluiced between his fingers and spattered on the floor.
The stranger murmured a word, and the air itself seemed to twist around him, bent and mangled by the sound he made as a faint light twisted around his fingers as he bent and curled them in impossible configurations.
The pain of the wound closing was worse than its making; that had been quick, the edge sharp. This felt like someone was grasping Lex's parted flesh with greasy fingers and reshaping it like so much clay.
The stranger looked at the blood splattered on his fingers and hand.
"It is unfortunate that the offal that pollutes your veins is too poor a vintage, Luthor. I would not soil my tongue with it, but perhaps there are others that might be sated by lesser stock."
A hand closed around his neck, and Lex was hauled up, his toes kicking six inches above the floor.
"I could crush you like an insect, remake you, and crush you again," he said, with a strange, mirthless joy in his voice. "You think yourself your world's smartest man. Next to me, you are nothing. Your world is nothing. I have ruled this land for a thousand years. I am beyond your comprehension."
He let go, and Lex fell, rolling with the impact, lucky not to pop something in his knee. He fell onto his side, gasping and struggling to breathe, unsure he still could.
"You will do as you are commanded. You will tell me everything you know of this woman, and hold nothing back. Her origins, her ways, her home, her family, everything you know, and if I am satisfied that you have been suitably forthcoming, I shall reward you by allowing you to live and serve me."
"Who are you?" Lex choked out.
The stranger stared down at him, smiling for the first time, a cold smile without a hint of anything human in it.
"I am the Ancient. I am the Land. I am Strahd."

can i do the same thing to you i did to sssammich and upend all the -corps on your desk or is that too greedy 🥴
looping in @yourlocalegotisticalqueerishere since it's easier to do these all in one post ! alphabetical order for funsies under the cut:
agentcorp - no...idk what to say really except the vibes are off for me. sorry chyler </3 i know you wanted to kiss katie so bad. i think alex and lena have similarities & differences (just like every character does with every other character lol) but i personally feel like their specific similarities & differences would cause them to either enable each other's worst aspects or to butt heads constantly. just my onion i know many people disagree and that's fine. also the triple hit of alex trying to nuke lena and justifying it by twisting all her previous good deeds to make them sound bad, lying about it to her face while asking for her help, and then not advocating for her to get her memories back and even encouraging kara to deceive her once again all in quick succession in s5 -- all of which got swept under the rug in s6 -- really soured me on the friendship s4 had built up between them. so i'm not even really a fan of their friendship. tragique :(
braincorp - they are my brotp <333 i don't ship them romantically at all but actually their relationship is probably my favorite relationship on the show period. it helps that they are my 2 fave characters lol but also they are so smart and so bitchy together and i love them <333 brainy is so ride or die for lena even when she gives him literally the worst advice anyone has ever given anyone else in the history of the world and lena feels safe with brainy to express how she really feels and they are kindred spirits. also the parallel to the comics dynamic between brainiac & lex luthor [which should've made it to the show!!! where was the original brainiac???] is poetic. braincorp 4 life !!!
dreamcorp - again i don't ship them at all but it's so bonkers that developing this relationship wasn't more of a priority for the writers. little sisters with asshole siblings who blame themselves for their mother's deaths (and also have magic powers i guess thanks s6 🥴)...the scenes write themselves! or so you would think. i liked that they had some rapport in s6 but also ngl it cracked me up in 6x07 when nia called lena "family" i was like girl this is your first onscreen conversation ever 😭 you are colleagues at best...oh well. i like the idea of them becoming found family though. i don't see the superfriends as a found family (they are actually this cool thing called 'friends' instead) but nia & lena specifically i think could come to lean on each other in a sisterly way.
guardiancorp - so as i've mentioned part of what really piqued my interest in guardiancorp was the reveal that james had 16 scars from lex yet he was able to look past that to see lena for who she was not just as lex's little sister. james as clark's best friend and lena as lex's sister are kind of inherently tied together by the superman/lex drama and i'm interested in how they can work through that to love each other anyway. one thing i find interesting about them is that they are deeply different in ways that could set them at odds -- lena is a luthor, james is team super; lena is a white woman, james is a black man; lena is morally flexible, james is much more morally steadfast/rigid -- yet they are able to find solidarity and common ground with each other despite those things and have each other's backs. a lot of people like to point to the scene where lena & james are completely out of sync at game night as evidence that they were never really right for each other, but the thing i always remember is that lena wanted to practice with him afterwards. she wanted to put in the work. that's actually very romantic to me. another thing i like is how protective they are of each other; morgan edge might call james lena's bodyguard and james might take a bullet for her and dangle morgan edge off a building for her but lena is also HIS bodyguard who would make deals with the DA for him and poison her mother for him. they're each other's guardians. also they are capable of being so powerful and bitchy together like when they went to confront morgan edge in 3x09 that was sooo funny and iconic. i do wish the show built them up better and let us see their friendship properly develop in 3a instead of having them flirt in a couple scenes and then not interact for 4 episodes and then have kara & sam hamfistedly tell us they have chemistry. if i were writing season 3 i would give them a slower build and probably not have them kiss until the balcony scene in 3x17. but oh well. if wishes were horses i would have lots of horses. i wouldn't even know what to do with all those horses. so it's a good thing wishes aren't horses, if you think about it.
kellycorp / goldencorp (that's the name i just came up with now that i am advocating for) - i quite like this idea because it's a kelly ship i can actually get invested in. hooray <3 i think kelly would be good for lena and, crucially, i think lena would be good for kelly. they both are more 'outsiders' to the superfriends than the other members are, as evinced by the two of them being the last to know supergirl's identity, and i think they could bond over that. i could see kelly feeling comfortable being displeased/angry with lena in a way she maybe doesn't with the other superfriends, while also holding space for lena's emotions in a way Certain Other People Who Shall Remain Nameless aren't always very good at. and i could also see lena really enjoying spoiling kelly with her wealth and kelly being kind of into it. also the fact that the showrunners seemed weirdly allergic to putting azie and katie into scenes together, meanwhile azie and katie were supposedly constantly flirting on set and working overtime to try and sneak goldencorp crumbs into the background, suggests to me that their chemistry was so palpable and powerful that TPTB were scared of letting them loose lest the fandom descend even further into ship wars. ...ok that last part is just a silly little conspiracy theory that i made up so please don't repeat it as fact or even as plausible speculation but also why Did the showrunners keep them apart so much 🤔 makes you think !
mirrorcorp [mirrorverse iris/lena aka a ship i invented] - so if you've never seen the flash you are probably thinking: who is mirrorverse iris??? i'm so glad you asked. mirrorverse iris is a clone of iris from the mirror realm which is NOT an 'evil universe' a la star trek, it is instead a world literally inside mirrors. mirrorverse iris was essentially created by mirror monarch (don't ask) for the purpose of infiltrating the normal world. she spends an arc impersonating the real iris and is similar in some ways but is also angrier, more ruthless, and more impulsive. in her last episode she figures out that she wants to be her own person and live life on her own terms not mirror monarch's and she defies mirror monarch during a fight with barry and then she dies. don't like that she died i wish she'd stuck around she was an epic character. but anyway this arc takes place in season 6b of the flash which you guessed it coincides with season 5b of supergirl. so my pitch is that instead of teaming up with lex to continue project nonsense lena goes on a sojourn to central city and meets mirrorverse iris who is impersonating real iris and undergoing an existential crisis/crisis of conscience. and the two bond and become friends. and then mirrorverse iris doesn't die and she and lena have to figure out who they want to be for themselves not just for the people who created them or tried to mold them in their image. and then they kiss about it idk just saying it could be good!
nationalcitydistrictattorneycorp - i mean. you've seen the scene. possibly the most sexually charged scene in the entire show. unclear to me why both actresses decided to play it that way but ok queens !
peggycorp - not my thing but i respect the warriors 👍
reigncorp - sam is imo the best & healthiest friend lena could ask for -- actually the best & healthiest friend anyone on this show could ask for -- but i don't really think their relationship is improved or made more interesting by them dating. i do think they have hooked up in the past and they decided they were better off as friends.
rojascorp - i'm not a rojascorp shipper actually but i believe in their beliefs...andrea and lena definitely dated, i see them as exes who still have affection for each other & sexual tension, i'm just not interested in the idea of them getting back together. if anything i actually worry that andrea might be too deferential to lena? i think she sees herself as deeply indebted to lena and -- whether you're looking at the pre-crisis more interesting timeline where she directly has blood on her hands or the post-crisis less interesting timeline where she tried to kill supergirl & accidentally put william in the line of fire -- i think she has a lot of guilt and she views lena as a moral authority in contrast to her morally 'tarnished' view of herself. which is interesting & juicy because most characters don't view lena that way. but i don't know that it's a great dynamic for a romance.
spheercorp - jack is sweet and rahul kohli is pretty. here endeth my thoughts on spheercorp. ...ok i guess i can say a little more which is that like rojascorp i prefer them as exes/bffs to them getting back together. i also will say that, while i think jack's death contributed to a disturbing trend on the show of killing off south asian characters, i do actually rather like it as a character beat for lena. i enjoy seeing him pop up in fics but in the show itself i think him dying is kind of a better story. sorry jacky :(
supercorp - i mean i think the premise alone is kind of epic and awesome. a super and a luthor but they're in love. like that's just plain cool. plus think of the awkward family dinners! i am always here for ships that will generate awkward family dinners. i also think they have a lot of great comedy scenes together which is always a plus to me shipping-wise, i like ships with a comedic bent. but there's also a lot of juicy drama/tragedy/gay divorce with them too which is also good of course. as a big fan of dramatic irony i like the secret/reveal as a storytelling device i just wish they handled it better post-5x01 (i think 4x22 and 5x01 actually kind of nailed it ngl). i like that they both used each other's kryptonite on the other person and yet they were able to forgive that and love the other person anyway. i mean the actual in-show process of forgiveness was wack but the idea is spicy. and i like that, as kara herself (clunkily) put it in the finale, they really do challenge each other and push each other to be better. as i've mentioned before theirs is a relationship where actions have consequences and where every scene they have matters and affects later scenes, which is unlike.....well, most relationships on the show, frankly. i also tend to think their scenes are just generally better-written and have more subtext (and i'm not just talking about the gay kind) and interesting things going on in them than most of the rest of the show's scenes. for all my many gripes about how s5 & s6 handled their fallout and then kind of just papered over it with platitudes, i still think their relationship is one of the best parts of the show and it's still the major thing that keeps me on the hook.
#if i missed any. well. assume i don't care about it enough to write up a paragraph lol#sideguitars#up up and away

hey I saw that lovely art you posted of an alternate first meeting between Superboy and Superman in Young Justice. I watched YJ as a teen and loved it, but I've also heard people say that they dislike how much it mischaracterized Superman for the sake of giving Superboy drama and daddy issues. I don't know much about Superman outside of YJ, but from what I know about the character, the complaint seems legit.
If you could rewrite S1 of Young Justice, how would you change Superman and Superboy's relationship? And how would it effect the rest of the plot, especially the subplot with Lex Luthor?
Oh boy I am SO GLAD you asked
First of all yes, the complaints are legit as I have just binged all of season one and…Clark was bad. The writers fumbled his character big time and underutilized all of his personality traits. I have complaints about Conner too, as I will forever be more of a fan of his punk look and his “born to be a product” character version, but we have what we have and I think DC cooked when they made him pine for Clark’s affection for once. I think it could have been a genuinely touching found family story if it was written properly.
I’ve talked to a friend of mine about this and I feel like, if I had the reigns, it’d make more sense for me to write Clark taking on the role of Young Justice’s housefather (or den mother, as the characters themselves call it😂) instead of Red Tornado. If we refer to his canonical personality, Clark would have been much more present in the team’s lives as well compared to Tornado. I can see him cooking dinners for the kids, comforting them when the world weights too heavily on their shoulders, giving out advice or a shoulder to cry on. Perhaps even following them on some more dangerous missions and when drama calls for kids to be alone, he can just be at the JL headquarters or busy with his life as a civilian.
If it was up to me and I had to add more drama to the show, I’d take on the slowburn route. Clark, although clearly shocked and definitely on some level disturbed, would’ve been excited to get to know Conner and spend time with him; teach him about his powers, about the world, and help him find his place in it. That is just the kind of character he is outside of Young Justice. He’d understand that DNA relations make them a family, but wouldn’t want to push Conner’s boundaries as he is notoriously snappy, distrusting and at times aggressive with people, even if Superman sees none of that aggression or distrust directed at him in particular.
If he only knew that it is because Conner wants his approval more than anything in the world.
Clark gives Conner the same love and care as he does other children of the team, but it’s not enough. Perhaps Conner feels like he isn’t special; rejected even, as he is no different to Superman than any other member of Young Justice.
Both sides grow to want to be a family, to be a father and son and care for each other, but they don’t know how to approach the subject in fear of pushing the other away, however their dynamic slowly progresses throughout the first season and ends in the two fully accepting each other.
In terms of the Lex subplot, I definitely see Clark getting protective and hella pissed that a man who never gave a damn about his alleged son has suddenly showed up in his life, trying to manipulate him. As my friend had said, he cold have sat Conner down for a conversation, assured him that family is not only blood, but bonds. Sure, Superman and Superboy share blood, but they have also chosen each other, and that makes all the difference.
THIS might have been A tier stuff, in my humble opinion.
