I recently started playing genshin again, and it occurred to me that Lumine’s CN voice reminded me very very much of Niao Niao (lltg) so have my drawing of Zhao Lusi as Lumine! (Zhao Lumi) feat. Paimon and a snow-covered Liyue!
+my very favorite voiceline because it’s the first thing I go back to every time I play this game after a break

My good people of Tumblr! You know when you love something so much, you just have to share it?
Niché fandom fanfic rant incoming, you've been warned:
Writing fanfics for a smaller fandom is 100% self indulgence, but despite how small it is an it's been since the show came out, the Love Like the Galaxy fandom is pretty active on AO3!
Recently, Infinity by the talented MoodyScorpio got completed. It's a fix-it sort of fic that enhances the canon in ways I didn't think were possible despite the many hours I've dwelled over LLTG. I was surprised in the best way!! Speaking of which, they started a new fic today called Splendid Stars which I'm very excited to read!
One of my all time favourite LLTG fics is Just a Dream by the amazing raileypink. This is probably my most favourite fic on AO3. It offers themes of time-travel and chances of do-overs yet doesn't make the story a repetition of canon. Instead, the sweet moments are sweeter, the tense moments are filled with twists. Every time this fic updates, I leave everything I'm doing to go read it!
Then we have KimberlyA's reimagining of LLTG called Reverse Love Like the Galaxy. Apart from the writer being one of the biggest supporters for anyone who writes for the LLTG fandom, they've crafted quite the intriguing story! It's not just a gender-swap, the characters are more than just put into gender-defying roles that would make a mess of the time period the show is set in. No, it offers a refreshing take with a "what if?" factor where the characters keep their strengths and depict their flaws; both known and original plots entwining quite well. I'm looking forward to seeing where this fic goes!
And lastly, if you're still here, I too am writing a fic that's a crossover between Love Like the Galaxy and Who Rules the World. Cheng Shaoshang and Bai Fengxi are two characters so brilliantly played by Zhao Lusi are two of my all-time favourite female leads. When the time called for it, Shaoshang chose to put herself before the volatile nature of Huo Buyi. Her saying "He is my most beloved person in the world. But I am still me." both surprised me and changed my perspective fundamentally. It explained so easily how selfish and self-preservation are not the same.
But I needed something more. I needed her to get a chance to grow up, to know what freedom tasted like, to know what it is like to love herself before she loves others or is loved by others.
And so, The Wind of Fire was born, where Cheng Shaoshang becomes Bai Fengxi. Shaoshang is certainly younger and more faminine than Bai Fengxi, who has a regal aura about her while holding up as one of the most powerful people in the Martial Arts World. But in essence, they're the same. They're both courageous and mischievous, stubborn and steadfast, both very capable young women.
It's ongoing and updating, you can find me on AO3 as aprilrayne. Below are some edits I made for the fic!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apart from the fics I've shared, which are all ongoing there are a hundred more fics to go through. Some with happy endings, some with characters going their own ways. Whatever your preference, there is something for everyone!

What are some of your fave cdramas that you would highly rec? I’m looking for something to watch and I would be grateful if you can share some. Thank you!!
Oh, thanks so much for this question, I love recommending cdramas haha!
LEGEND OF FEI [2020] Gotta start with the obvious, because I'll recommend this drama forever even to everyone who has started and can't get into it, I'll always be like, please try again lol It's feminist, fun, feel-good but with very nicely done heavy moments every few episodes, important messages about life and about becoming who you want to be, it has my, at this point, favorite cdrama ship ever, yunfei my beloved!! relationship goals! friendships, funny dynamics, siblings, AMAZING characters and...so much more, I won't continue because I'll never stop lmao
UNEXPECTED [2018] Such an underrated Drama! I don't know why it's so underrated, especially because it's made by the same writer as a very popular drama (The Romance of Tiger and Rose) and the stories are very similar, which I know can be boring but they also have differences that make each drama unique, there's just the same premise of a writer traveling into their own story.
I'VE FALLEN FOR YOU [2020] The perfect rom-com historical drama, with a very fun plot and with plot twists you don't expect, such good characters and two amazing ships! Comfort drama for sure!
THE LOVE BY HYPNOTIC [2019] If you love palace romance, arranged marriage turned true love, a few crazy (but very entertaining) villains and a love story for the ages! Even though it has some very heavy moments, it's one of my comfort dramas as well, because it also includes some VERY FUNNY moments, like I just love dramas that can somehow balance comedy, romance and serious moments so well!
THE QUEEN OF ATTACK [2021] There's so many short dramas nowadays and 80% of them have the same plot of someone traveling into a story lol and yes, this is one of them BUT it's such a good drama like it's insane, I'll wish forever it was a normal length one, but it's still so good, the episodes are 9-10 mins each but there are two seasons, and the episodes have been combined, so eventually it's like having a normal drama with 12 normal length episodes (6 for s1 and 6 for s2). It's so worth it and the two actors are so talented and have such good chemistry, plus the story is unique too, yes this premise has been done many times but I think they still made it so unique and different from others.
THE STARRY LOVE [2023] A recent drama and quite popular, but I'll still recommend it always. Other than the last episode that was a bit disappointing and rushed (still a happy-ish ending though), it's my favorite Xianxia and it was just so good, the story, the cinematography, THE OST, the actors, the ships, the friendships, the sisters, ALL THE WOMEN, youqin literally making all other MLs take notes from him on how to be the best ml out there, so many reasons to watch this drama, just ignore the last part and pretend we saw what they forgot to show us lol
LOVE LIKE THE GALAXY [2022] Where do I even begin??? (This is the first Zhao Lusi drama i recommend in this list, but I just wanna mention, I recommend almost all of them.) Anyway, LLTG is by far my favorite political drama, and non wuxia/xianxia historical cdrama. It's so different and unique, there's literally nothing like it. It's a slow paced drama, with very long scenes (you might only have 3-4 scenes in one episode for example) and it's the reason why It got me a while to get to it, but now I'M SO IN LOVE WITH IT!!! There is not an episode I don't enjoy, it's pure art. Cheng Shao Shang is one of my favorite girls ever and her and Ling Buyi???? I'D DIE FOR THEIR LOVE. Their chemistry is so so so good, now Zhao Lusi can have chemistry with a tree, it's true but still, one of the best cdrama ships out there. Even though I never truly watched classic cdramas like Nirvana on Fire and those "older" ones, I think LLTG somehow is the closest to those except it also loves its characters and focuses on romance more than any older political cdrama did but it works so so well.
LIGHTER AND PRINCESS [2022] Favorite modern drama! I gotta be honest I'm not verrrryyyy into modern cdramas, I like a few, even love some, but generally it's hard to find a modern cdrama I'll go crazy over...but L&P changed that. Or well, it's still hard, maybe even harder now, to find something that tops it, but L&P is just so so good. Again, a quite popular drama, maybe it doesn't need the recommendation, but I have to mention it anyway 'cause it's my baby and I just cannot make a favorite cdramas list without it! Some reasons to watch: One of the best love stories out there, with such good angst and just everything you need on a ship, two main characters so unique that you'll definitely relate to (at least in some aspects), one of the best OSTS ever, perfect cinematography, directing and writing and one of my favorite endings on any show ever!
Some more dramas I recommend but I won't dig deeper (I talked a lot already):
Couple of Mirrors [2021]
Who Rules The World [2022]
Love Between Fairy and Devil [2022]
Young Blood [2019 - S2 starts tomorrow!]
Wait, My Youth [2019]
Zhaoyao/The Legends [2019]
Arsenal Military Academy [2019]
There's probably more but I think that's good for now, I hope I helped you find something to watch and I'm always here for more recs if you want :P <3

Who Rules The World (2022)
Tumblr media
Genre: Wuxia, Fantasy, Romance
Synopsis: An important relic has been stolen, throwing the world into a political chaos in a fight to gain power. The political world collides with the martial art world as everyone wants to be the one who comes out on top. Bai Fengxi is a carefree person who never hesitates to put herself in harms way to help someone else. Hei Fengxi is known as her rival, but he is much more refined and prefers to work behind the scenes. As the war for power rages on, the two have to join hands and help each other regain peace in the world once again.
Episode info: 40 episodes / Runtime around 45 minutes
Lead cast: Zhao Lusi (Bai Fengxi), Yang Yang (Hei Fengxi), Leon Lai (Huang Chao), xuan Lu (Feng Qiwu), Zhang Hao Wei (Yu Wuyan)
Link to watch: You can watch on Netflix or Dramacool

That gif explains their whole relationship quite well. She bravely storms ahead to help wherever she can, and he follows after, worried that something might happen to her. Wherever she goes, he's not far behind.
Also, the way he looks at her from the very first episode makes me weak. Their relationship and whole dynamic is definitely the star of the show, I love their love so much. Their strengths and weaknesses complement each other so well, and there is never a time when they would not lie down their own life to save the other. They never let miscommunications go for too long (though they will use it as an opportunity to sometimes tease each other), and they always make sure the other knows just how important they are - be that through words or actions.
I adore Zhao Lusi, and her chemistry with Yang Yang was just amazing. The romance really carried this whole drama.
It is very like Legend of Fei in a way (and not just because it's another Wuxia drama). We have the badass female lead who do not need to man to know exactly what she is worth - but if a handsome, chivalrous man happen to follow her around like a lost puppy, she's not about to let that go. She can fight for herself and might not always know her limits, but eventually learn to lean on and rely on the support she has around her.
Now, politics is not my favorite theme for a drama, and this is heavy on it, but if that's something you'll like, this drama is even more for you.
40 episodes is a bit long for me, but they mostly managed to move the story along nicely, and when I did start to get a little bit bored with it, it ramped right back up again to keep me hooked.
There are a lot of characters to keep track of, so just keep that in mind if you, like me, struggle to remember lots of names and faces (especially in dramas where the spoken names and titles aren't always the same as the subtitles).
All in all, a drama that I will definitely remember for the romance, and one I will be comparing other couples to in the future.

BIOGRAPHY.
briar rose zheng was born in the spring of 2001 in derry, ireland. her family, a middleclass muggle family, didn't have much in materialistic terms, she grew up loved and cherished. her mother is a registered nurse and her father a construction worker, and both are utterly ordinary ( in terms of magic ). while briar is the oldest of two girls, her sister tends to be the calmer more steady of the two siblings. briar has always been the more sensitive of the two sisters, often behaving like the younger of the two, and was quickly ( and lovingly ) branded a crybaby by her family.
artistic and optimistic, briar's first love has always been art. painting, photography, ceramics, any media she could get her little hands on. her parents always encouraged her to do what made her happy. painting would always be her favorite, followed closely by photography. even now, it's not uncommon for her to have a camera around her neck. as she got older her social butterfly nature became increasingly obvious. she made friends easily, even befriending those who seemed hard to get a long with.
briar's high school career was pretty uneventful. she did extremely well in her courses, kept an almost perfect point average and graduated early, at the age of sixteen. wanting to take a break before she attended college ( majoring in fine art, of course ), she decided to take a year off. within that time... things started happening. cookies floating off the baking tray, things disappearing into thin air... very odd, strange things. and then finally... a letter. at seventeen briar finally understood why she had deep down always felt like she didn't belong. briar was finally home.
at first, briar had no idea what she wanted to focus her studies on, and when her mother had suggested healing & medicine she had dismissed her altogether, but after falling ill and winding up in the hospital wing during her first year, she realized just how fascinating it was. she had always been altruistic and compassionate, and it felt right. helping take care of those around her. so she declared her area of study.
while briar has always aligned herself with the light, it became even more clear to her when cedric diggory was murdered last year. while they weren't as close as some of her housemates were to him, she felt the sharp pain of heartache when she found out he he had passed, and she knew then more than ever that she wanted to help people.
HEADCANONS.
her room at home and her area in the dorms are both covered in art. paintings, sketches, photography, anything you can think of she has it decorating her space.
is suuuuper clumsy. it's not uncommon for her to trip over her own feet.
doesn't often drink so she has a very low tolerance for it, and is usually pretty tipsy after a shot or two.
is obsessed with magical creatures and really considered making zoology her area of study.
before coming to hogwarts her favorite mythical creatures were mermaids and sirens, and after being a student for three years, she's actually very of afraid of them and the black lake.
her mother often sends her care packages from ireland, full of muggle candies and snacks that she and her housemates absolutely adore.
has a bunny rabbit named clover. she's a year old, and she has about a billion protection charms on her, because briar is terrified that one of the cats or owls are going to snatch her up when she isn't around.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
ride or die / best friend. squad. good friends. exes on good terms. exes on bad terms. rival. frenemy. mentor. surrogate older sibling. one sided crush ( either way ). late night confidant. someone who dislikes briar for no reason. anything you think would fit!

I see you have some custom signs for your trolls. And I'm curious: What inspired them? Is there any meaning behind them? Or did you just pull them outta thin air? :0
Tumblr media
Okay I can't tell if I love having you in my inbox or hate you for the questions you ask. Because on one hand you ask questions, I hope people will ask, and on the other hand you make me want to info dump so much.
Like have you seen my response to the Rakker question you asked? I even did art for that one. I loved it though! I dunno if anyone actually bothered to read through me info dumping about them. dunno if they will this time either.
God it's basically a design question too but I'll refrain from how their horns are designed after their signs, and also where the signs are on their clothing. I swear NVidia's and Tikvah's sign placing is the best so far.
Anyways to answer your first question most of them are alchemy symbols. Very few have signs outside of that. I intend to make most of my trolls have an alchemy symbol as their sign.
As for symbolism oooooo boy that's a long one. I'll try to keep in order of blood caste. Burgundy to fuchsia.
Maebel Morri
Tumblr media
Maebel's sign is one of the symbols for arsenic, an insecticide and weed killer. This fits well with her lore, as her lusus needs to eat other lusi to survive. This often sentences young orphan trolls to death, especially lowbloods, who are viewed as pests. However, by killing pests, it allows plants to grow, which allows for life (for her and her lusus to keep living). This is all tied to her being a prince of doom.
Rumboo
n/a
Tikvah
Tumblr media
Tikvah's alchemy symbol is the one for hour. The hourglass, which represents the fleeting nature of human existence. This symbol is fitting for Tikvah, as she is a character who is constantly striving to make the most of her time and achieve her goals. However, her quest for success has come at a cost. She has sacrificed her own mental health in favor of putting her work first, and she often is unemotional and analytical. Which plays into another symbolism hourglasses have, balance. She needs to find balance.
Nvidia
Tumblr media
Nvidias sign is one from the extended homestuck zodiac, not alchemy obviously. The sign looked like an eye, and I wanted her to have eye imagery. It also had three pupils and Nvidia has three eyes so yeah. It is a very fitting sign for her, as she is a famous goldblood streamer who is constantly under the scrutiny of others. She has three eyes, which reflects her intense focus on her work and her desire to be seen and heard. Her lusus is overprotective of them and always has an eye on them. She is a master of self-presentation, and she knows how to control the way that she is perceived. If someone wanted to plot with me about a stalker character for Nvidia, I would be open to it, as I think it would be a good fit for her character. I'm always down to plot out some horror and angst for my characters.
Angora
Tumblr media
(I wasn't going to redraw this one I struggled to much the first time, so this will have to do.)
Angora's symbol is one of the alchemy symbols for purification. I chose this symbol for him because I thought it would fit a pyromaniac character well. For fire is often used in spiritual ceremonies to purify things considered to be evil. They can also be described as pure, naive, but still have a fiery personality.
Piapot
n/a
Zynier
Tumblr media
Zynier symbol is the alchemy symbol for fixation. For those of you that dont known fixation is a process to transform a volatile substance into a form not affected by fire. There is more than that but that's the part important to Zynier. The reason is it plays into his character, because he has seen the injustice of the Alternian justice system and has become apathetic to it. He is no longer affected by the injustice in the world due to his job. He is still the same person at heart, but he is now indifferent to the emotions and problems of others. This makes it difficult for him to make meaningful connections, as he is unable to relate to others on an emotional level.
Hollie
Tumblr media
Hollie's symbol is the sign of alumen (alum?), which is a chemical compound that is used to hydrate things. This works for Hollie, as she is often seen as a kind and nurturing person. However, the word "alumen" also means "bitter salt," This plays into how she is kind and always hides her pain of people hating her under kindness and understanding, pretending that it doesn't hurt but it does. She hides that she doesn't like her appearance as well. Alumen is also used in some spiritual practices to cast off evil and negative energy. This relates to how Hollie is actively hunting down the person who tried to kill Zynier, and she is determined to make sure that no other assassin ever gets the chance to hurt him again. She is actively hunting down evil and warding it off.
Rakker
Tumblr media
Rakker's symbol does not mean happiness. It is the symbol for a ventriloquist dummy, which is often associated with happiness. This is because dummies are supposed to make people laugh, and laughter is often associated with happiness.
So yeah, that is everyone with their signs and symbolism. I really hope people like this. I put way too much thought into details about my characters. heh never ask me about a character's design. that would be a much longer post than any of previous ones. if you read this far thank you! I appreciate it and any ask I get.

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Jiang Yingyue, a 25 year old daughter of Yue Lao.            She is a maid at Sakura Lounge and a fighter at The Pits.
FC NAME/GROUP: Zhao Lusi CHARACTER NAME: Jiang Yingyue AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: November 9, 1998 PLACE OF BIRTH: Guangxi, China OCCUPATION: Maid at Sakura / Part-time Fighter at Fight Club HEIGHT: 161 cm (5’3″) WEIGHT: 46 kg DEFINING FEATURES: Yingyue always has a long, thick rope with heavy ball(meteor hammer) wrapped around her waist. Typically, she keeps her hair up, either in a loose bun or a long braid.
PERSONALITY: Kind-hearted yet heavily spirited, Yingyue always knew what she wanted, and despite the rules that naturally were in place, she always seemed to find a way to achieve what she wanted or needed to do. Her rebellious nature easily could create a path for disaster, but Yingyue’s heart was of gold, always willing to stir up a bit of trouble if it meant she could help someone. To survive such a willful spirit, the demigoddess learned quickly from a young age how to appease others. Though her powers helped to naturally, the charismatic demigoddess spoke as if her words were drenched with honey, especially when she got herself in trouble. Yingyue’s beauty and charm added to her luck, and the sweet woman had a knack for getting what she wanted.
Though she complained and ached about the monks’ boring teaching, Yingyue naturally soaked up any information she could get, as it gave her a platform for being more successful in her next mission. A sort of jack of all trades, Yingyue was just dangerous enough to be successful, but it had only been fighting and the art of persuasion that she was truly well-versed in. So, when she made her spot on the island, Yingyue wanted a chance to be able to follow her interests for once, even though she knew she could never not try to connect other’s red strings.
HISTORY: One late night, the monastery heard a loud bang at their gate and the shrill cries of a woman deep in pain. Deep in labor, Yingyue’s mother was just hours from giving birth, and the monks, unable to turn away a soul in trouble, welcomed her in, attempting to aid the painful birth as best as they could. The sweet child was barely held by the mother once she entered into the world, going into the arms of the Master Jiang where she would stay. Just an evening later, the mother disappeared in the night, leaving the monastery to raise the young demigoddess.
For a woman born in a environment that centered on discipline and focus, she was the exact opposite, a handful whose sweet words and lovable personality seemed to prevent her from too much repercussions from the master and other monks. Yingyue’s life revolved around training as long as she remembered. The monks taught her deep lessons in history, writing and poetry, the arts, and science. Yingyue often joked that she got the finest education, but through her youth, the arduous study sessions stifled her, causing some frustration for the monks that raised her. It was not until they began to teach her tai chi and the mystic arts that she found some interest in her studies. She could finally sit through the boring lectures if it meant that she could move and practice after.
As she grew a bit older, Yingyue finally got to see the outside of the monastery. The outside world only increased the trouble for the monks. On too many occasions, the demigoddess channeled her mother’s escapism, finding means on excursions to the city to explore and enjoy the various stalls and shops. Her master always would give her a firm scolding, but it would never stop her. For in these excursions, she met the sweetest, starving boy, and she realized that those many red strings that clung to master and brother’s ankles were not unique to them.
So used to seeing these strings of fate in the evening, she had never questioned their existence, and if she had, they always had thought she was a young girl with a wild imagination. After many evenings in the city, her chatter on the tangled cords and the matched couples finally grabbed the attention of her brothers. It took much consultation between them and other monasteries from further locales to settle on the truth. In so, the already beloved girl seemed to receive even more attention and support from her family. Yingyue found some new freedom due to her supposed demigod status, and her excursions to the city lasted longer. Romantic love had been such a foreign concept to her, and the need to understand it and assist it drove her to new lengths.
Even as a young teen, her skills and abilities learned at the monastery proved useful in helping lost lovers finally make their connection, to help them create a love story. It was fun, exhilarating. Every new couple gave her new problems to tackle for them, but Yingyue started to question the validity of these matches and the cruelness of not finding a soulmate. Her generally rebellious nature questioned the sanctity of her powers. For her monks who committed their life to training, what became of their soulmates? Did a destined lover always have a happy ending, and if not, why submit to that forced path? Despite so many questions, she continued, hoping to at least give the lovers a chance to make up their own mind. If they were meant to unite, she would allow them to achieve that fate just a bit faster. And in these adventures, she realized that the family that had raised her had merely been the beginning of her journey. Her master had realized at a young age that such a small monastery was not fit for her, So, when the demigoddess approached him, their time ended in a heartfelt goodbye to a family who had treated her well.
The many years following sent her through many major cities. The demigoddess grew some recognition, specifically being requested to help them in their pursuit of their soulmate. These quests kept her fed, but they also taught her more skills to add to her toolkit. From many women, she learned the art of dance, flirtation, and many skills that a monastery of men could never teach her. From many men, she learned the use of technology and some weaponry, specifically the meteor hammer which she fondly carries on her hip. Despite the satisfaction that came from her creative means of introducing young and old lovers, Yingyue felt a bit homesick, wanting to find someplace to at least call her own. And after visiting her father’s temple, it was a piece of red silk string that pointed her there. Falling from the sky, the small thread landed in her hand. With a small note attached, it directed her to an island for people like her. Half gods and deities. Now, those would be some love stories that she would love to help achieve.
PANTHEON: Chinese CHILD OF: Yue Lao POWERS: Under the light of the moon, Yingyue can see the red strings that connect lovers by their ankles. These strings travel all the way to their lover, and as the soulmates come closer, the string shrinks. Yingyue’s can only see these strings, and there is nothing she can do to change their fate. As the daughter of a god of love, the demigoddess is naturally charismatic, naturally radiating a welcoming persona that allows her to easily gain the trust of others. STRENGTHS: Fun-loving, Kind, Talented WEAKNESSES: Rebellious, Hedonistic, Hubris

Seriously, if you move house a lot or do a lot of junk runs you would not believe the amount of stuff you can fit in the back of a Grand Caravan.
Less stuff and some of it better packed since the 2021 move, make that a lot of it never got unpacked, we're at the 'we got that in only four trips' phase and might have the garage generally empty in another four.
Not today tho. What ever I do today bending and lifting isn't going to be a part of it.
The one thing I feel will happen in this move is there will be a substantial liminal time where we're down to the bare essentials in this place and literally can't move in to the next one until it's ready. Especially with rent assistance you often have to have your last place inspected to see that you haven't trashed it.
Maybe it's changed recently. If so we'd just need to walk around with the landlord while taking a video and have him sign us off, don't know. We won't be without a place to sleep, it's just one of those things. Altho the last one we took pictures and just left.
Hopefully if there is liminal time I'll be in a state of existence where I can ingest some media.
I have no real way to explain how okay I somehow seem to be with how things are going this time. So far the biggest gripe is the new art supplies printed fabric I just bought isn't in the same tub with the colored pencils and other art fabric. Then I have to remember most of my fabric is like that because of the 2021 shit.
Did bring home some black with neon birthday cakes on it for the Unoa Lusis. The print is right for the Chibi but she's not sure if the print is her style.
Todays plans include taking stuff to the junk store and more rewriting.

My digital art progression:
This will be updated with every finished digital art project I make.
June 19, 2023: Fanart of Qsmp Chayanne, also posted on my side blog @lusi-raul. My very first digital art piece.
Tumblr media
July 3, 2023: Children of my best friend. I made it as a background for her birthday card ❤️
Tumblr media
July 3, 2023: My art is shit and I want to document my progress. I am fully blind going into this. I have no artistic background and I started pretty late (as in a few weeks ago) as I had no confidence that I’ll ever be a good artist when I was young. Growing up took away that fear and my art is still shit but I am optimistic that it will get better over time. I hope this thread can turn into something that can motivate other people to pursue their creative journeys without fear like I used to have. I regret not starting early but now I’m glad I became unafraid to try and I look forward to more things I will create 🥰

Cdramas lately
After I finished watching The Starry Love, which was fun and hilarious with a somewhat unsatisfying ending, nothing new was appealing to me, so I rewatched all of Joy of Life again. It's definitely a drama that rewards rewatching, because of all the complex plot twists and the huge cast of characters. Unusually, I feel like the best episode is quite late in the series - the one where Xiao En reveals his secrets to Fan Xian, and you learn that Xiao En is really just a pawn, as is Fan Xian, and you hear the tragic backstory of Yan Bingyun and all about Fan Xian's mother. Xiao En's death made me cry a bunch the first time I watched the series, and I cried again this time, too. There really is no other cdrama like Joy of Life. The only thing I dislike about it is Xiao Zhan's dubbing - the show was filmed before his huge explosion in popularity from The Untamed. I hope a season 2 does eventually come out, and that we get to hear Xiao Laoshi's voice this time!
As I was finishing Joy of Life, I discovered that Ao Rui Peng just came out with a new historical/fantasy romantic comedy, Love is Written in the Stars.
Tumblr media
Ao Rui Peng played my favourite character in Blood of Youth, the ridiculous himbo, Lei Wujie. So I was ready to follow him into another comedic leading role. I'm up to episode 4, and the show is exceedingly silly. The female lead, Qi Yan Di, is definitely styled to be a Zhao Lusi stand-in - the hair, the costuming, the attitude - but I think she holds her own really well. (The guy who plays Su Mu in Romance of Tiger and Rose is also in it, so there's another Zhao Lusi tangential connection.) Ao Rui Peng's character isn't dumb like Lei Wujie, but he is good at martial arts and is constantly ending up in comedically awkward situations. The show is often riding the line of being so ridiculous that's it's cringey (it's also a pretty horny show, at least in Cdrama terms!), so we'll have to see how it progresses. Ao Rui Peng is keeping me there for now.
I also started watching Nothing But You, since the trailer looked good. I'm also only up to episode 4. My main observation is that Tu Song Yan is truly in 95% of the contemporary Cdramas I've seen!
Tumblr media
Honestly, nobody works more than this guy! He's fantastic, so I have no complaints about it. He would be so interesting to talk to if you wanted to know what it is like to work with basically every young idol actor in Cdramaland. As for the drama itself, the pacing is good, and the story is engaging - I just haven't been as enthusiastic about contemporary stuff lately. Wu Lei and Zhou Yu Tong are both good actors, and I do love an older woman-younger man romance. Tragically, Wu Lei does absolutely nothing for me, looks-wise. It's also funny seeing flashbacks of his character being played by a younger actor, because we all know what he actually looked like when he was young because of Nirvana in Fire (the 2nd Cdrama I ever watched).
