a  sigh  escaped  briar's  parted  lips  as  her  eyes  try  to  focus  on  the  novel  in  her  hands,  her  pet  rabbit,  clover,  curled  up  in  her  lap.  she  was  nestled  into  the  arm  of  one  of  the  two  cozy  couches  in  the  common  room,  facing  the  fireplace.  briar  could  smell  something  sweet  baking  in  the  kitchens,  and  she  felt  completely  and  utterly  at  ease.  possibly  for  the  first  time  since  the  tragedy  that  had  struck  hogwarts  at  the  end  of  last  year.  she  hoped  that  this  year  would  turn  out  different,  her  naivety  almost  tangible.  with  another  sigh  at  her  inability  to  focus  on  the  muggle  romance  novel  in  her  lap,  she  quietly  closed  it  and  placed  it  next  to  her  on  the  couch,  her  fingers  drifting  to  the  small  sleeping  rabbit  in  her  hand - knitted  afghan  covered  lap.  she  let  her  eyes  wonder  around  the  common  room,  before  taking  in  the  sight  of  u-jin  and  two  first  years,  a  few  bottles  of  nail  polish  between  them.  she  felt  her  cheeks  heat  slightly.  white  her  crush  on  u-jin  was  a  close  guarded  secret,  she  was  sure  she  didn't  hide  very  well.  often  becoming  a  stuttering  mess  anytime  he  spoke  to  her,  her  cheeks  never  failing  to  flare  cherry  red  whenever  they  made  eye  contact.  a  small  smile  made  it's  way  to  her  lips  as  she  watched  the  first  years  finish  painting  his  nails,  one  hand  purple  and  the  other  a  sparkly  silver  shade. her  eyes  widened  as  she  heard  the  robotic  voice  say  her  name,  before  realizing that  yes,  in  fact,  he  was  speaking  to  her.  she  let  out  a quiet  laugh that was still loud  enough  to  stir  clover slightly  in  her  lap.  "  w - well,  i  think  you  could  definitely  pull  it  off, you do have nice hands.  i  hear  it  pays  well,  too.  "  she  nodded,  her  eyes  focused  on  his  hands.

golden skies and greenery for yonder, ribbons and threads intertwining the first week back or first week experience overall, all knotting and tangling before the year has truly begun. thus was how he always found the first week back, chaotic and cacophonous. but all of it became a hush when skies turn inky, and all were ushered to their common rooms. and most of his evening he has been occupied by entertaining the first years, ensuring their first week hasn't been too stressful on them. after all, they all deserved their first year to be rememberable — hoping it would be a good one without any hiccups. but he wasn't naive. so, that could be the reason he's draped himself over two pastel yellow beanbags, his hand taken by two first years as they paint his nails with muggle polish. the girls giggling about how he should be a hand model after his schooling, he found himself smiling in amusement.

once they had finished drying, he rolled over on his back and looked down the length of the couch to the person occupying it. ❝ what do you think, briar ? should i quit school now and become a hand model. ❞ his device spoke for him after he had skillfully entered the message one-handed, the robotic unmistakable for any puff ( or anyone ) who's been around u-jin long enough.

briar  really  needed  an  intervention.  her  addiction  to  sweets  was  getting  out  of  control.  she  was  certain  by  now, in her fifth year,  that  she  and  the  attendants  at  honeydukes  were  basically  on  a  first  name  basis. they had been back less than a week, and she was already on her second trip to the sweets shop.  as  she  was  ready  to  open  up  a  sugar  quill  she  heard  a  voice  next  to  her.  turning  towards  rose,  she  nodded.  "  aye,  that  would  be  grand, rosie!  "  she  smiled  warmly, grateful for the other hufflepuffs offer.  "  hopefully  it'll  help warm  me  up...  it's  not  even  really snowing  yet  and  i'm  absolutely  freezing!  "

setting: hogsmeade over the weekend (open to anyone)

rosie was ecstatic about getting permission to go out to hogsmeade, she’d practically skipped the whole way there. as much as she enjoyed running around the school grounds, one could only stand so much before getting a little stir crazy. hence her excitement to run some meaningless errands around the village. she’d decided to grab a butterbeer before continuing on, and turned to the person near her with a warm smirk. “ya want a butterbeer? it’s on me.”

BIOGRAPHY.

briar rose zheng was born in the spring of 2001 in derry, ireland. her family, a middleclass muggle family, didn't have much in materialistic terms, she grew up loved and cherished. her mother is a registered nurse and her father a construction worker, and both are utterly ordinary ( in terms of magic ). while briar is the oldest of two girls, her sister tends to be the calmer more steady of the two siblings. briar has always been the more sensitive of the two sisters, often behaving like the younger of the two, and was quickly ( and lovingly ) branded a crybaby by her family.

artistic and optimistic, briar's first love has always been art. painting, photography, ceramics, any media she could get her little hands on. her parents always encouraged her to do what made her happy. painting would always be her favorite, followed closely by photography. even now, it's not uncommon for her to have a camera around her neck. as she got older her social butterfly nature became increasingly obvious. she made friends easily, even befriending those who seemed hard to get a long with.

briar's high school career was pretty uneventful. she did extremely well in her courses, kept an almost perfect point average and graduated early, at the age of sixteen. wanting to take a break before she attended college ( majoring in fine art, of course ), she decided to take a year off. within that time... things started happening. cookies floating off the baking tray, things disappearing into thin air... very odd, strange things. and then finally... a letter. at seventeen briar finally understood why she had deep down always felt like she didn't belong. briar was finally home.

at first, briar had no idea what she wanted to focus her studies on, and when her mother had suggested healing & medicine she had dismissed her altogether, but after falling ill and winding up in the hospital wing during her first year, she realized just how fascinating it was. she had always been altruistic and compassionate, and it felt right. helping take care of those around her. so she declared her area of study.

while briar has always aligned herself with the light, it became even more clear to her when cedric diggory was murdered last year. while they weren't as close as some of her housemates were to him, she felt the sharp pain of heartache when she found out he he had passed, and she knew then more than ever that she wanted to help people.

HEADCANONS.

her room at home and her area in the dorms are both covered in art. paintings, sketches, photography, anything you can think of she has it decorating her space.

is suuuuper clumsy. it's not uncommon for her to trip over her own feet.

doesn't often drink so she has a very low tolerance for it, and is usually pretty tipsy after a shot or two.

is obsessed with magical creatures and really considered making zoology her area of study.

before coming to hogwarts her favorite mythical creatures were mermaids and sirens, and after being a student for three years, she's actually very of afraid of them and the black lake.

her mother often sends her care packages from ireland, full of muggle candies and snacks that she and her housemates absolutely adore.

has a bunny rabbit named clover. she's a year old, and she has about a billion protection charms on her, because briar is terrified that one of the cats or owls are going to snatch her up when she isn't around.
