this whole "job thing" is rlly starting to get in my way. i need to watch made up people falling in love on tv, and then i need to read more extensively about it online. why is that so hard to understand

genuinely and truly i think it goes like this

merlin, 200 years old: all my friends are dead and it's only just begun to really hit me how short a regular human lifespan is and oh my god i'm really going to outlive everyone i love and that just makes me agonize over everything in camelot even more because what if i could've done THIS differently and then—

merlin, 2000 years old: really looking forward to eventually being ten thousand years old so i can watch the sahara desert go back to being green again. Until then i suppose i'll just have my usual fun (read: hanging out with the various magical beings that reside in the ocean, living as a bird for fifty years, getting wrapped up in some major historical event, etc.)

This is a really funny scene but it's also pretty great at showing not telling character and relationship development. Because she's in rage (the only other time we saw her be in that level of rage was in the city after the battle), but it does bespeak a certain level of intimacy and security to fight like this because objectively, he could wring her neck without breaking a sweat. Instead, he nitpicks her way of address as a way to run off...

Oh my God, they are so married for real ahahahahah

And then she THROWS scrolls at the door.

And you know what strikes me here? Once her brain catches up with her temper, she looks apprehensive as hell. Because once again, he's her husband, twice her size, lord of the territory etc etc etc. She didn't mean it that way but it's a test for him and for them, isn't it?

And instead...

And she's safe to rage and throw more stuff which she does...

I am forever in love with the scene where Merlin kills Agravaine. There's that exact moment (↑) in which he realises he has to do it, that Agravaine has to die, and I love the mixture of regret and badassery as he gets ready to do it. he knows he's the most powerful person in the room and he gives up any pretense otherwise. it's a glimpse into how powerful merlin could be if his magic did not need to be a secret. like, he may not enjoy killing, but he can and will do it.

the magic itself is also the coolest thing ever, so quietly powerful:

and who could forget, this incredible line after Agravaine finds out he has magic.
