Win the Future 输赢 is hands down one of best workplace dramas I’ve ever watched🙌🏼

I’m halfway through and have been thoroughly impressed by the quality of the script, zero cliches/wasted lines, no bullshit main characters who are equals in every sense of the word, realistic business related scenes with believable side characters and an entire cast that can actually act! Also this script is phenomenal - the writers incorporated war strategy and use appropriate quotes from the Art of War to highlight key negotiation/strategy setting scenes. Some of the older more experienced actors are absolutely stellar, I had to rewatch their line deliveries for a couple of scenes because they were just so genius.

I must say that I love the main leads’ energy as business rivals and it makes their romance all the more tense and interesting😻 they’re both cutthroat, decisive and action orientated… but have unique, flawed personalities. The actors portrayed that with class! If anyone here is already a Xin Zhilei or Chen Kun fan then be prepared to fall in love again!

I find it amazing how Nian Bai Yu is always willing to be the emotional support not only for Tantai Jin, but also for Ye Qingyu. The three of them are like a dysfunctional family lol. Even though they disagree and sometimes fight, they are always ready to help each other in even small ways. I love them so much and I hope that in this 'new phase' they can get to know each other and become friends.

Notes : This is a Full Whump List • Even though this drama is quite long, kinda depressing, and only about half whump (tho there's a shit-ton of emotional whump that I didn't note), I still think it's worth the watch. It's really well made and acted! • There are quite a few heart-wrenching moments. Ding Quan is an emotional character (I mean that as a positive note). I felt so sorry for him most the time, & in the few moments where he finally found acceptance or acknowledgment, it's so touching.. but the good moments never seem to last long enough. He's not a perfect character by any means, not above using dirty tricks to reach his goal, but still, I just wanted to give him a big hug by the end of it all. • Episode 60 has an after credit scene that connects it to a 12 episodes Epilogue that was released a few months later called Royal Nirvana Special (2020). Apparently they are episodes that were originally cut from the series. Where I found it to watch it was only subbed up to ep4 (& poorly at that). Still, I did quickly flip through the rest of the episodes. It ends in tragedy, and I decided I won't be making a list for it. Even though the Special does tie up a few loose ends, you can make do without, and if you (like me) want a marginally happy ending I suggest you don't watch it.

My thoughts on this drama :

It it rated 9/10 because of the frustration…. At the Chinese governement's sh*tty censorship, again! They had to cut so many scenes (important ones) for it to be allowed to air, that we ended up with some extremely cluncky episodes toward the end of the show. Otherwise, this is a bit fat 10/10! I followed it upon release, each day, for weeks, with monstrous cliffhangers and all! It is close to perfection. The cast, the costumes, the music, the scenery, the special effects, the story, the acting, EVERYTHING! It has it all: smiles and tears, laughter and anger, life and death, love and tragedy.... It had been so long since I was that taken by a series. I can only recommend it 1000%, this drama has become a real reference for the Xianxia genre.

It’s a repeat rinse cycle with both main leads and what I mean by that is they fight a lot…..a lot lot, make up, then fight all over again without learning anything. If that’s not your thing then you’ll definitely hate this drama. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two and the overall storyline it can get a bit overdramatic at times. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s an enjoyable watch if you fast forward with remote. It’s one of those it’s so bad, but why can’t I stop watching drama.

Chapter 166: I'm still slightly shipping Zhou huaijin and Lu Jia (what can I say it's like wu xie/pangzi vibes if wu xie was more in the corrupt life and pangzi was more overtly criminal around him) I'm still thinking about that scene where Zhou huaijin risked his life for lu jia.

Zhou Huaijin quickly twisted his head towards Lu Jia. “You already knew that…”

“Relax, they wouldn’t have touched you yesterday.” Lu Jia licked the ice cream. As if his tongue was barbed, half the ice cream disappeared in one lick. “They don’t have as many connections here as you do. First they have to work out who you’re looking for, bide their time, then catch you both in one go.”

Mini-review:

I love Song Weilong and I was really looking forward to seeing him in a sci-fi drama, but The Bionic Life didn't fully meet my expectations. While the show proposes a lot of interesting questions and themes, it never delves in them as deeply as it should. And it definitely doesn't help that the world-building is so half-assed. I did enjoy some of the episodic cases and the overarching mystery, mainly due to the main characters and the cast, but I wish the writing was stronger. Tbh, if it wasn't so short, I think I wouldn't have finished it.

Alright party people and JZ-Heads, after a slew of somewhat interesting yet tedious documentary efforts, we return with the Chinese auteur's first proper work of fiction since 2006's fantastic Still Life.

In A Touch of Sin he utilizes a loose anthology approach similar to that movie, but with an even more overt, segmented approach. It's also his most violent picture by a wild margin (really his only violent film to date). It's also extremely good.

It's also of note that this is his only post-The World production that was banned in China, and supposedly not because of the violence. Depicting fictional adaptations of several real news stories (the Foxconn suicides for example), I guess it hit a little too close to home for his country's censors.

Though the character motivations are slight at best, I felt that added to the fragility of the intermingling narratives. We know just one thing for certain: that things are gonna come undone. It's a weird hyper-stylistic turn, not just with the violence but with the acting and action surrounding it. Especially after everything else has been so raw, realistic, and minimalist (those Still Life spaceships notwithstanding). Jia's wife and constant collaborator, Zhao Tao, is really hamming it up with this new flair for blood and guts...

That the final stanza — based loosely on the aforementioned Foxconn tragedies — ends only in self-harm is a poignant stamp. Violence is all around. It seeps from society and plagues the individual: both external and internal. Can an animal commit suicide? Of course it can.

People look at screens and weep in the two-minute untitled short from the Venice 70: Future Reloaded project which featured a whopping, you guessed it, 70 miniature movies from notable directors. It ends with a bunch of people looking at a screen in a mall. It's good.

Pros: really good at exams, flute playing and being a murderous sub.

Cons: terrible at wife murder (tho perhaps that's a plus?), moral backbone of a sponge, sis and mom would make bad in laws.

Pros: looks really good with hair loose, big on women having careers outside the home, devoted to one woman only, great kisser.
