x. @firexfvalisthea sent : Top 10 favourite characters? Your OTP? (for final fantasy munday meme)
Accepting from this meme.
TOP TEN FAVOURITE CHARACTERS:
This one's a little too easy to answer, but I'm gonna rank them in order of 1 - 10 . This is based on a lot of internal factors , but also one game holds my heart so tight and I write in this fandom a lot , so . . . on that note !
Noctis {ffxv}
Ignis {ffxv}
Cloud {ffvii}
Prompto (ffxv)
Aerith {ffvii}
Zack {ffvii}
Yuna {ffx}
Lunafreya {ffxv}
Tidus {ffx}
Sephiroth {ffvii}
BONUS/ HONORABLE MENTIONS {BECAUSE I CAN}: Kadaj {ffvii}, Cindy {ffxv}, and Somnus {ffxv}, Joshua {ffxvi}.
OTP:
I'm breaking this one down by games I've played . So , that being said here we go:
FF X: Yuna and Tidus all the way . They're literally so cute ?? I could write essays about them , and I just might . I will happily die on this hill. They're also from the very first FF game I've played , so no matter what they will always hold a special place in my heart.
FF VII: Surprise to no one, I have a few in this fandom/game . Aerith and Cloud . I think they are really soft together , and she brings out a side of ClouPd that we don't normally get to see . On the flip side , Cloud brings out a certain spunkiness in Aerith and they balance each other out well . Cloud and Zack . I'm a sucker for a good best friends to lovers , ride or die trope . I am . Cloud changes so much around Zack , and Zack helps him open up and not be so stormy. They're cute . Zack and Aerith . Classic , tried and true that can do no wrong in my heart . They have great chemistry , and their story is just . . .delightful .
FF XV: Same thing as FFVII , I have a lot of OTPs for this game . This game has me in a stupid chokehold . That being said . Noctis and Prompto . Best friends to lovers . Awkward best friends since childhood , falling in love during sunrises . Late night pizza , and 3am talks about nothing . They get each other and just . . . I love them , okay ? Following that path, Ignis and Noctis . Listen , this one tickles my senses . I adore them . They are the classic 'prince falling in love with his advisor' trope. Ignis knows every little hair on Noctis' head, while Noctis knows Ignis' routine backwards and forwards . They have really tender moments . And don't get me started on Ignis actually willing to die for Noctis to keep him safe . Okay ? Okay . Noctis and Lunafreya . The game did them justice but not enough justice {we got so little screen time with them, don't come for me}. That being said , the moments we did get were beautiful between them . You could tell how much she cared about him from a young age , and how much he valued her and respected her . They had a really particular bond and it was remarkable . {One of my favourite threads I've written on @rexelectus was a thread of just letters between Luna and Noctis and it's my favourite in the universe}. I have too many OTPs for this game, Ravus and Ignis , Prompto and Cindy , Iris and Talcott , Aulea and Regis. I could write even more about this game than I already have , so I'mma stop .
#x. o o c | Thank you so much for sending this in !!! <3#x. b o t t l e d l e t t e r s | a n s w e r e d#x. s h a d o w s s p e a k | m u n a n s w e r e d#firexfvalisthea

Any games missing are because I don't know them that well/didn't finish them/there aren't enough female characters in the first place/etc.
(also I feel it needs to be said, I left Agrias off of FFT and skipped FFV entirely because both she and Faris are already butch so I would just be drawing them normally lol not that I mind!! I probably will add Agrias with Ovelia if I do end up doing FFT though c: )
and of course I already did ff8!

Until Darkness Descends
CHAPTER: 27
FANDON: Final Fantasy XV
MAIN PAIR: Ardyn Izunia x Reader
SEC PAIR: Gladiolus Amicitia x Reader
RATING: Explicit
A few days passed when Noctis received a phone call from Gladiolus’ sister, Iris. Your heart fluttered with joy after finding out that she was alive and well. She and a few other refugees migrated to Lestallum after the attack on the capital. Dread whipped your gut when the prince made up his mind to meet her in the city.
You wanted to see Iris. She was the kid sister of your boyfriend and a constant in your life since you were ten years old. But the thought of revisiting that wretched place caused sweat to burst out of your pores like a leaking dam. You offered little conversation during the drive there, too busy trying to unwind the knots in your stomach.
Once you arrived, the first thing you noticed was the sweltering heat, how sticky and heavy the air was and the way the building swam in the humidity. The voices of the city rode on the wind as Ignis pulled the car into a parking lot, the chatter of the common folk, the thunk and grind of machinery, and the impatient honk of car horns resurrected memories you thought would remain dead.
Your shoulders were hiked up to your ears and your arms rippled with tension as you climbed out of the car. In your worry, your bottom lip found its way between your teeth. Your steps were heavy as though they were weighed down by shackles. Fear lifted its head in your chest and you wondered if anyone would recognize you.
Would the sight of your face drive an excited crowd in your direction? Would the temple priestess of your youth choose this time to traverse the city and notice you? The questions stirred a sour storm in your belly. But as you walked by the Lestallum people, you noticed no lingering glances, no turning of heads, and no excited gasps.
Nobody noticed you, you were just another face in the crowd. Your shoulders lowered an inch. There was no reason to worry. Ten years had passed since anyone from this city had seen you. Your hair was longer, your cheeks more narrow, and your limbs longer. You didn’t look like the same girl who performed miracles on the city streets. You were safe.
A sigh of relief fell from your lips and took your worry and stress with it. Meandering through the network of stairs and side streets, you and the boys stumbled upon the hotel that hosted Iris. Walking through the open doors, your face lit up the moment you saw Iris. You rushed towards her and pulled the girl into your arms. Jared, the Amicitia family’s butler, along with his grandson, Talcott, were also with her. You hugged both of them as well, happy to see they were all alive.
After catching up, Iris led you and the boys to her room. The atmosphere around the six of you became heavy, stripped of the jovial tone it previously had. She sat on her bed and told your group everything that happened that day in the capital.
Regret lunged through your body as your mind brought her words to life. You should’ve been there. Maybe the king would still be alive. Or maybe you would’ve died too. A cold shiver looped around your spine. You looked around the room and saw the same conflicted emotions on the boys’ faces. Survivor’s guilt was a gash that refused to heal.
You thought about Noctis’ childhood sweetheart, Lunafreya, the Oracle. The girl he was supposed to marry yesterday. She was said to be present at the treaty signing that day in the capital. She too was reported deceased. Your brows knitted together and your fingernails sunk deep into your biceps. You hoped the news was wrong. They also reported that prince Noctis was dead, but he was obviously alive and breathing right next to you. Perhaps the same could be said for the late princess.
That night you laid awake in bed. Dry eyes stared up at the ceiling, counting specks of dust that hung from the smooth white surface. Gladiolus snored softly beside you, his arm draped across your waist like a vise keeping you in place. A blade of moonlight slashed through the window, beckoning your attention to the city lights.
Sighing, you sat up in bed and gently moved Gladiolus’ arm from your waist. With no hope for sleep, you got dressed and made your way to the door. The air was much cooler at night. The wind carried a crispness that reminded you of Tenebrae in the cusp of winter. You pulled your jacket tighter around you and walked with your gaze lowered.
Soon the pebble infested cement ground was replaced with the crunch of grass underfoot. You lifted your head to find a secluded park, the same one you visited many times before in the past. A gentle breeze combed through the abandoned place, causing a swing to creak as a sashayed back and forth in the wind.
Taking a seat on the bench, you studied the maze of grass beneath you, as though the curved tips of the narrow leaves would deliver hidden truths to you. Another breeze whipped through the park and made the trees rustle and sway to an inaudible song.
Shoulders slouched, you buried your hands in your pockets. You felt so lost. Everything that had happened recently had chipped away at whatever confidence you developed behind the citadel walls. Everything was so much easier, so much more clear, while you were in Insomnia. You trained hard during the day and went to sleep with aching muscles. You had a purpose, had meaning, now you were lost at sea with no land in sight.
You rubbed your hands together, your paralysis lifted, but your inadequacy soaked deep into your bones nonetheless. You worked so hard to get to where you were now, only to be crushed by an ineptitude you didn’t realize was still there. No matter how far you run from this city, you would always be that little girl only useful for cheap tricks. Your talents laid in draining grieving parents and sickly people of their wealth, not in aiding the courts.
These past eight days proved that. Your vision swam and you closed your eyes against the tears. The back of your neck suddenly heated up and your ears perked at the sound of approaching footsteps. Just another night traveler, you thought. It wasn’t until you heard a satiny chuckle that you turned around.
“All by your lonesome yet again.” The honeyed tone wrapped around you like a heated blanket. “I’m certain I’ve seen this before, perhaps this is what they call deja vu?” Amber light hit a crop of auburn hair as he stepped under the streetlamp, illuminating the slight grin on his face.
“Perhaps it is.” You said in reply. “What are you doing in Lestallum? If you aren’t careful a girl might think you’re following her.” As soon as the joke left your lips, an icy ripple raced down your legs. You swallowed a lump in your throat, your mouth gone dry. This was the second time you crossed paths within the past few days, you weren’t sure if you could chalk it up to coincidence anymore.
Anxiety stitched its way up your spine, pulling your muscles taut. What if Ardyn was following you? Suddenly all you could think about was the anger in his eyes, the fire in his grip, and the poison in his words. Could that easily become reality? You stared at Ardyn as he took a seat next to you. Your heart stuttered as though it too was lost for words.
Goosebumps scattered across your arms and you looked down at the ground. You’ve never seen Ardyn angry and possessive before, but what if he was possessive of you? Was that why you kept seeing him the past eight days? Was he really following you?
Your mind spiraled and that’s when he chuckled. “Quite the contrary, my dear. I am simply here on business, Lestallum has always been hospitable to magicians. And with my previous engagement now canceled I am free to return to my roots. I see you're of the same mind.”
Your chest deflated with a breath, your anxiety reduced to a simmer. His explanation made sense. You don’t know why your mind resorted to nonsensical tales. The goosebumps licking your arms sunk underneath your skin and you tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “I guess you could say that.” You said. The air became still between you, as though the entire world stopped to watch your encounter.
Just like the last meeting, the space between you was heavy with an awkwardness that wasn’t there before. It robbed your mouth of moisture and made your nerves pop and scatter like fleeing insects. You gripped your covered arms, the dark leather creasing beneath your fingers. Wanting to offer more than just a few words, you turned slightly to face him. “So how have your travels been?”
Ardyn gave you his usual smile, it was the equivalence of dumping water on a burning bush, enough to snuff out the flame, but not enough to repair the damage. “Oh simply wonderful. Care to hear?”

final fantasy vii (final fantasy in general) is the only fandom i'm in where none of my favourite ships are even remotely canon, or popular.
rambling below cut
for seven, my top ships barely interact for longer than a few minutes and because of the twenty-odd year shipping war, no other ships really get to breathe. especially involving any of the 'core' four (the chances of renoaer ever having more than a small cult-following was shot in field somewhere in '97)
cissreno, i mean they have one conversation together and happen to be in the same scene once (despite both being turks!) and that's all i've got to work with. i so desperately want a cissnei reunion in rebirth or it's sequel - give me one scene square!
i wonder if they'll mention emma now that elena has joined and square are using compilation material.
the level of angst in these two ships is genuinely too good to be ignored.
reti are fine, like i've got a few hang-ups the longer i think about the age-gap but in the grand scheme of things it's relatively harmless and the fanart circulating is gorgeous.
the only popular ship i love is aerti but even then it's still no cloti, zerith or clerith (all ships i don't dislike).
for final fantasy xv i mean, again it's all about the angst.
lunyx was always doomed to fail simply in the premise of xv and the film doesn't directly imply anything more than genuine friendship and nyx's need to play hero and projecting his vulnerability / optimism onto luna.
i also just would like to add that aesthetically older!noctis x kingsglaive!lunafreya - truly majestic. i don't buy game them, but i sure buy that.
i don't have much of a reason to ship luche x crowe other than the fact that i hate myself, him and what could've been had the film fleshed out their characters more because in every scene they share they're literally looking at each-other at some point.
also, whilst i'm on the subject of crowe and luna - crowuna, another great ship. i wouldn't trust square with it considering what they did to crowe but that has genuine potential.
side note, i love the headcanon that iris looks up to crowe as a role-model.
here's also some my quickfire rarepairs / crackships, that again will never see the light of day
highspecs - that's what it's called? anyways, yes. (i wouldn't say this is a rarepair, just not on the levels of ignoct, promptis or noctluna)
reno x jessie - this is chaos and i love it.
cleno - i don't even know if i really ship this but reno pissing off cloud adds ten-years to my life and i will relish in that wutai rescue mission.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Characters Upgrades Part 2
The Force Enhancements Level 50 feature just got unlocked for all the characters in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game.
Sadly, the reason why this happened is because DFFOO just announced that it will discontinue or end its service on February 29, 2024.
The end of service announcement came as a shock. I talk more about that in another post, but I really wish the news wasn’t true. Wish the game wasn’t ending at all.
Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Force Enhancements Feature
Previously, chars in DFFOO can only go up to Force Enhancements Level 30.
Then the Force Enhancements Level 50 feature got introduced but not everyone had access to this right away.
If a char is featured on a banner, then the Force Enhancements Level 50 feature will be unlocked for them even if they don’t get an upgrade or new weapon.
So it was a bit of a slow process but eventually, everyone would be able to get up to Force Enhancements Level 50.
But since the game is ending soon, everyone now has access to the aforementioned feature.
Fully Built Characters with Force Enhancements Level 30
Currently, have some chars who are already fully built but who were still stuck at Force Enhancements Level 30. For most of these chars, was just waiting for them to be able to get up to Force Enhancements Level 50.
But for a few of these chars - they recently got access to the Force Enhancements Level 50 feature but opted not to get this for them since I wasn’t currently using them anyway so it was better to save my Enhancement Points for future upcoming chars and upgrades.
Since DFFOO is gonna end soon, there’s no reason to save anymore so I’m now working on fully building the rest of my roster. This includes getting my already fully built chars who were previously stuck at Force Enhancements Level 30 up to Level 50.
All of these chars have their 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, Force or FR, and Burst or BT weapons fully MLB. Their Burst weapons have been upgraded to BT+ 3/3. Their High Armors have been Blued.
All of their Summon Boards and Character Enhancement Boards have been completed.
They have their Bloom Stones as well as triple perfect Artifacts. They also have triple real Spheres.
Iris Amicitia from Final Fantasy XV (#ad)
Cor Leonis from Final Fantasy XV
Cid Raines from Final Fantasy XIII
Paine from Final Fantasy X
Sherlotta from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Characters with Force Enhancements Level 30 and without Force Boards
These chars are basically the same as the chars mentioned above in that they're fully built except they're at Force Enhancements Level 30 and haven't unlocked the entirety of their Force Boards.
These chars recently got access to their Force Boards as well as the Force Enhancements Level 50 feature but since I currently didn't have any plans to use them, opted not to get their Force Boards and Force Enhancements Level 50.
But, IIRC, I did unlock parts of the Force Boards of 1 or 2 of these chars, particularly the tiles that would give me access to their Force Echoes.
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret from Final Fantasy XV
Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII
Yuna from Final Fantasy X
Conclusion
So what about you? What do you think about the news that DFFOO is ending its service on February 29, 2024? Did you build any of the chars mentioned above? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging or replying to this post.

Working alongside daemons, seemingly controlling them, she nearly struck down the team. Her power was subdued by their loyal Shield, who was able to knock her unconscious. She begrudgingly admits to him her name: Chrome Animalia. With that single gesture, her memories of a better life come back to her, before she was taken and tainted by Niflheim. As time passes in her cage, she slowly reveals her story to him. Together, they determine to unveil the secrets of her past. ML + Final Fantasy XV (I picked a different game this time) + My Adventures With Superman
In Gralea, capital of the Niflheim Empire, Olympia Hill worked as a scientist for the empire’s Task Force X under lead scientist Gabriel Besithia, studying the advanced technology of Solheim that she felt a strange connection to. Growing up with strange powers that she was encouraged to keep a secret from the empire and particularly the Starscourge-powered chancellor, she held a level of skepticism and distrust even as she worked for one of Emperor Aldercapt’s highest divisions. Using the Solheim technology that goes into manufacturing MT units, she built herself a robot daughter on the side, whom she named Aeon. She figured out the workings of a Solheim device that made the user immune to magic, but, learning of Niflheim’s plans to unleash the Diamond Weapons on Insomnia, decided that it was best that the Empire not get its hands on it and secretly installed it into Aeon.
After the destruction of Insomnia and reported deaths of King Regis, Prince Noctis, and Lady Lunafreya, and learning that there had been sightings of a mysterious flying man displaying powers similar to her own fighting a Diamond Weapon in the city’s fall, Olympia destroys her lab and flees Gralea with Aeon in tow. They are attacked by Magitek soldiers, but a power awakens within Olympia that causes their programming to go haywire, giving the two an opening to escape. Crossing to Lucis, they make their way to Lestallum to get more information on the flying man. On the way, they get caught out at night and find themselves fighting Daemons, and Olympia finds that she can disrupt their spells as well. Emperor Aldercapt takes an interest in Olympia’s powers.
In the aftermath of the fall of Lucis, some people managed to get their hands on the remains of Niflheim tech and use them across the continent for good or ill. Ravus Nox Fleuret and Loqi Tummelt hunt down and work to recover the tech. One particularly elusive and dangerous target is a man named Otis, who uses tech that lets him create hard light duplicates of himself and grants him super speed, as well as a kinetic orb, to attack Hunters that go after wild beasts, building his attack style off of soccer, his daughter’s favorite sport.
In Lestallum, Olympia and Aeon meet three reporters who work for Meteor Publishing: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. They also meet the alive-and-well Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, along with his retinue Ignis Scientia, Gladiolus Amicitia, and Adrien Argentum. Olympia recognizes Adrien as the clone of Gabriel Besithia whom she had helped a Lucian spy rescue from the lab when he was an infant, but decides not to tell Adrien about this. Instead, she asks the reporters about the flying man and learns that they call him “Superman” and he has been sighted across Lucis fighting imperials, Daemons, and villains using Solheim technology. When Livewire attacks, Olympia and Aeon fight her alongside Superman, whom they realize is Clark.
The two superbeings seek out Solheim remnants, believing that they hold a connection to their origins, while Aeon befriends the royal retinue and Iris Amicitia and helps Noctis seek out the Astrals Pollen and Wayzz. Aeon’s invulnerability to magic makes her useful in the fight with Wayzz and protect her from accidentally being affected by Noctis’ spell grenades. Olympia and Clark ultimately discover that they are refugees/remnants of the ancient Solheim civilization, sent to the future as infants by their respective parents so that they would survive Ifrit’s destruction of Solheim, and that in addition to the powers that Clark was imbued with, Olympia was granted the ability to disrupt hostile magic and technology as an additional defense mechanism.
Take ML, your favorite video game and the last show you watched and smash them together to make a crossover AU featuring Ox!Aeon, Otis as Penalteam and Monkey!Olympia

Weeeelp. I’m so sorry it took so long! But here we are! Lesbians ahoy!
Set in the World of Ruin. Light spoilers for the Royal Edition if you haven’t played the Insomnia Ruins.
Lunafreya + Iris = “Run!”
Word count: 897
Iris had lost count how many times Cor insisted that shekeep her distance from Insomnia, but it was as many times as she disregarded hisorders and went anyway. If she were in any real military position, she wouldhave been in much deeper trouble, but as a mercenary daemon slayer, well, theMarshal could only tell her what to do so much. Besides, she wasn’t a littlekid anymore, and the last ten years had treated her well in regards to combattraining. There was a reason everyone knew her name, and it wasn’t because ofthe clothes she made – though that might have had something to do with it.
As she marched into the city, katana sheathed at her side, her insides churned. She recognized certain parts of the city, like the subwaystation and museum. Other parts, however, were unrecognizable, and it was witha deep frown she realized that a decade was a long time, and she couldn’tremember if she was standing in front of Noct’s old apartment or just anotherbusiness district building. The streets were ablaze, but she knew there wasnothing that could be done. It wasn’t like there were any firetrucks readilyavailable in a post-apocalyptic world. Instead, she focused on her destination:an Imperial base said to have been making a weapon that was far beyond anythingthey had ever faced in the past. Mechs weren’t her specialty – she usually leftthose sorts of things to Loqi – but she had just enough nerve and grit to trysomething new, and what better way to take out some pent up aggression than onthe oppressors that destroyed her home in the first place?
She heard the beast of a mech before she actually saw it, itsgears or, whatever, whirred and hissed as its feet stomping across thepavement. Painted lips curled into a smirk, and Iris advanced, moving a glovedhand to rest on the hilt of her blade as cinders smoldered beneath her boots. Whateverthis thing was, it was no joke, but she didn’t fear for her life. She was anAmacitia. Fear wasn’t in their vocabulary – even if her brother insisted thatit was healthy feel that way at times. What did he know?
Wordlessly, she sprinted, light on her feet. A metal shink sounded beside her as sheunsheathed the katana, and she leapt in the air. She had only a few seconds topinpoint a landing spot – somewhere near a power core. So what if she wasn’t anexpert on mechs? How hard could it be to shove a blade into some wires and letthe thing blow itself up? It wasn’t thatmenacing.
Iris twirled, and she expected to land on the thing’s back, but that was her fault for expecting. Pink lasers shot at her from alldirections, and scorching her clothes and slicing her skin wide open. Had itheard her? She had been so quiet! Frantic, she tried to turn away from beingdirectly hit, but she was already too close, and she felt the impact of theblast, followed by the smash of her back hitting the ground, sliding severalfeet in the longest five seconds of her life.
She stared towards the sky. The miasma looked green in thislight, like the sun was trying so hard to peek through, but there was too muchcorrosion. And yet, there was still a light, a white light, emitting a soft, yellow glow in front of her. With some difficulty, she craned her neck, andswore when she felt the sliced skin on her body stitching itself together.
“Shhhh.” A soft voice silenced her and a slender fingertouched her lips. “I must be quick, for once I am done, you cannot stay here.”
Iris huffed. There was an argument on her tongue, somethingabout no one can tell her what to do anymore, but it died before she couldutter the words. Instead, she gasped, and she found herself reaching out in thedirection of the voice.
“Lady Lunafreya?”
The Princess of Tenebrae nodded, and took Iris’s hand in herown, placing a gentle kiss to the inside of her palm. It felt like light itselfrushed through her veins, and Iris smiled, despite the pain she was in.
“I can only hold it off for a short time. When I am done, you must promise you will leave here.” Again, an argument formed on the tip ofIris’s tongue, but this time, she spat it out.
“But…” Okay. It was a weak argument.
“No buts,” Lunafreya insisted, and she leaned over Iris, kissing her cheek. “It is nearly done. Get ready.” Groaning, Iris stood, wobbling on her feet, and reaching out to touch the princess. A deep frowntugged on her lips when her hands went through her.
“It is done. Go, Iris.” Iris shook her head. Her feetremained planted on the ground, just out of sight of whatever magic Lunafreyawas using to conceal their location from the mech. She tried again to reachout. This time, Lunafreya’s hands caught hers, and their lips crashed for one, intense second before Iris was shoved away again.
“Go! Run!”
Iris did, and she didn’t look back. If she had, she wouldhave turned around. To fight the mech again? Maybe. To kiss the princess?Absolutely.
Send me two numbers 1-15 and another number 1-195 and I’ll write you a drabble.

You Rest Your Head On Their Lap (Final Fantasy XV Preference)
Characters: Lunafreya, Cindy, Iris, and Aranea
Requested by anon
_
Want to send a request? Read my rules first, please!
_
Lunafreya
Lunafreya would be a little surprised, but she wouldn’t show it. Knowing you seek her warmth, affection and comfort, she would only smile at your and rest her hand on your head. You would spend a bit like that, sitting together in a calm silence and maybe later talk a little as she absently caresses your head. “Are you comfortable, Y/N? Good, get some rest”
Cindy
Cindy is very surprised and she can’t hide it, she openly chuckles in astonishment but takes it with playfulness and humor. She stares at you, smirking a little, and when you give her the puppy eyes she just can’t resist your charm and will laugh again. Then she’d say something playful to maybe make you laugh or tease you a little. “Comfortable, are we, Y/N? You’re cuter than a baby chocobo!”
Iris
Iris would be a bit surprised, but not too much since you’re both usually really playful and close and affectionate, so she would just show you a warm smile and let you rest your head on her lap. Then she would try to tickle you or mess up your hair and laugh some more when you squirm, teasing you a little after. “You can stay for a bit, but then it’s my turn to rest on your lap!”
Aranea
Aranea wouldn’t only be surprised, she would be outright flustered. She loves the closeness, but she doesn’t really want to show it and acts annoyed instead, pretending like she’s over all that affectionate stuff. Scoffing, she would roll her eyes at you, even if she doesn’t push you away. “What are you doing, Y/N? Ugh, fine, you can stay there... but only ‘cause it’s you”

Random HCs of the Bros, Ravus, Luna, Cor, Nyx, Ardyn, & Aranea
Noctis
Super messy.
Like, never picks up after himself.
Doesn’t have to at the palace.
So he loses things all the time.
That game you want to borrow? No idea. It’s somewhere in this room.
He starts to just magic everything away so he can find it.
That’s why he magics the fishing pole away.
Gladio: “You know you could just put that in the trunk of the car, right?”
Noct: “Eh, this is easier.”
He’s just so used to it now.
That bag of chips he bought for later? Magiced.
His extra clothing? Magiced.
The book Gladio lent him? Magiced.
He doesn’t magic his phone away, anymore, because magic and electronics don’t mix. He’s broken like 6 phones doing that on accident.
Prompto
Prompto NEVER cusses!
He says random and adorable things, instead.
“HOLY BUBBLES, BATMAN!” “BISCUIT EATING GOAT MONKEY!” “APPLE”
But if one ever does slip through his lips…
It’s just a simple “F***”
At a minor inconvenience.
Like the boys come back and the Regalia has a flat tire.
And everyone is startled by what Prompto just said.
Either Prompto doesn’t even realize what happened and goes about his way,
Or he does and he covers his mouth with both hands and turns beet red!
Ignis
We know Ignis is amazing at video games, but he’s secretly really proud of that.
So he gets super competitive at games that are meant to even the odds.
~cough~Mario Kart~cough~
He’s shocked by the mechanics of the game the first time he plays it.
Someone beat him at the last minute thanks to a power up!
What?!
So now he’s super salty playing those games.
You plans his use of power ups like this is a war game.
You’d get blue shelled right before the finish line and he’d beat you.
He push up his glasses in that smug anime fashion and say:
“All’s fair in love and Mario Kart.”
Gladio
You two have a game of sharing the strangest kiss.
Meaning if you just ate something and the taste is still there, you kiss the other.
He did this to you with black licorice you gave him once and the game was on!
So, you did it with a Warhead candy.
He’ll drink hot sauce and kiss you.
You’ll eat ice and kiss his neck.
You’re always trying to surprise each other.
His favorite was when you ate Pop Rocks and kissed him.
His least favorite was a nasty shock when you ate baking cocoa and kissed him.
Ravus
Most people think Ravus wears that huge coat because he’s just so extra (™)
But it’s actually because
HE’S.ALWAYS.COLD.
Tenebrae is a warm, humid place, that allows flowers to bloom easily.
Niflheim is an arctic wasteland.
And all of the bases are just concrete.
“DOES NO ONE KNOW WHAT A HEATER IS IN THIS COUNTRY!?”
His bed has about 40 blankets on it.
The man is fairly extra, so he couldn’t stand the sight of those hideous puffer jackets the Empire issues to troops.
So he had this coat made by a personal tailor in Tenebrae.
And you can be guaranteed that it’s triple lined and fuzzy inside.
Luna
As much as she loves making funny faces at those she loves, the funniest are the ones she can’t control.
This woman can’t wink.
She can’t control only one eye at a time.
When she does try to wink, the other eye strains and almost closes.
She can’t help it.
She can barely raise one eyebrow, much less the other one!
How do you do that?
She has to physically hold her dominant eyebrow to raise the other one!
The whole thing looks ridiculous and embarrasses her, but she laughs with you.
You bet she’s practicing when she’s alone!
Cor
Can play the guitar.
Has a really nice, deep singing voice.
Likes rock music, mostly the classics.
But sings folk swoon-worthy-ly well.
Nyx
Likes to exaggerate minor inconveniences to get a reaction from you
He acts like a brat then smiles at you
“UUUUGGGHH. You want to go ShOpPiNg?”
But he smiles because he’s just giving you shit.
He’ll always do what you want, but he has to be dramatic first.
Ardyn
[I’ve posted this to another blog, but I still believe it]
Loves junk food and candy.
There’s so much that exists now that didn’t two thousand years ago!
He doesn’t need to eat, but he does because he CAN
He can eat just what tastes good!
Burgers and fries for dinner every single night? Perfect!
Deep fried candy bars? Doesn’t mind if he does!
Chips for breakfast? Delicious!
His car would be littered with wrappers.
He’s a kid in a candy shop at every gas station.
Disgusts Ravus with the crap he eats.
Aranea
Aranea and Iris would become sisters if they ever met.
Gladio hates it. Aranea is a bad influence on Iris.
But Iris has attached herself (for whatever reason) to Aranea.
And Aranea doesn’t really mind Iris.
She’ll show her the ropes.
Get her into trouble.
And Iris will back up Aranea whenever she needs it.

Yall might need some tissues cuz that’s gonna be Altissia, probably, hohoho. Anyways, try to enjoy! ALSO! The next chapter may take longer to come out because I’m moving to South Korea next month and uh, I’ma be busy! But I’ll hopefully find time to write! Enjoy~
_________
Lunafreya’s POV
It was gorgeous – Altissia was. The bright blue ocean surrounded the city with vast waterfalls around almost every corner. When the oracle entered the city a couple of days ago, it felt as if she was transcending into a new world. It looked so peaceful here. More so than her home of Tenebrae or anywhere else she’s visited. Immediately, she had been greeted by waterfalls and castle-like structures. Inside the city, citizens and visitors from other countries roamed the streets carefree – both day and night. The fear of nightly daemon attacks didn’t exist here, and it felt like a haven to the blonde woman. Gondolas were around every corner as it was the way of travel in the city surrounded by water. Lunafreya stared in awe as couples and families excitedly rode the wooden boats to their destinations. It was truly a dream-like city. If she were to die soon, she’d want it to happen here. Tenebrae and Lucis brought her pain and she wanted to die someplace where she wasn’t reminded of her mother being murdered before her very eyes or the reminder of seeing King Regis fall dead to the floor while she escaped. Though Altissia was under Imperial rule, it still retained its own government and by that, to Lunafreya, it didn’t feel as if she was constantly being watched. In fact, she was immediately taken into the care of Altissia’s current representative, Camelia Claustra. Though the Empire was close by, she felt slightly at ease.
Lunafreya was still reportedly dead to the world so exploring the city was something she couldn’t do. She did, however, visit the church where she was to wed Noctis. Her blue eyes had widened in amazement at the place. The inside was completely white with a giant window at the end that displayed three overflowing waterfalls. The stained glass that made up for the other windows was decorated with pictures of the history of Altissia, even down to where it was part of Solheim and under the rule of the Gods. The church was the oldest building in the city. Besides the white interior, gold hues filled out the rest of the venue. The cushioned seats were a golden color, as well as, gold specks sparkled on the white marble floors. A gold grand piano stood near the priest’s podium and Lunafreya imagined hearing “Here Comes the Bride” being played on it as she walked towards the love of her life. What amazed Lunafreya the most about the altar, however, was the giant portraits of her and Noctis that hung down from the ceilings. Noctis’s portrait, which showcased him in his formal prince attire – something Lunafreya had never witnessed in person – hung on the side where Lunafreya would have stood while her portrait hung on Noctis’s side. It had brought tears to the oracle’s eyes as her heart wept in both happiness and sadness. Happiness because the city and others did so much to prepare for the royal wedding between two old friends. Happiness because it confirmed that she was supposed to marry the man she’s been in love with for the past couple of years. She was so close to being reunited with Noctis. She was so close to being with him – even if just for a little while. And that’s where her sadness came in.
Again, the Empire found a way to separate her from the ones she loved. Lunafreya knew that Noctis’s true calling was upon them, but she had hoped to live blissfully with him for a bit – before the summoning of the Gods took the final toll on her. Her, Y/N, and Noctis… reunited. Though her sister despised the man for unknown reasons, she knows Y/N would’ve eventually lived happily with Noctis and her. Besides, Lunafreya knew Y/N didn’t actually despise Noctis. It was just a façade the younger woman put on for reasons to Lunafreya unknown.
“How is the oracle feeling today?” The voice of Gentiana caused Lunafreya’s ears to perk up. The blonde woman, who had been gazing out at the city from her room in Claustra’s presidential-like house, pushed herself off the window and faced the divine messenger.
“The same as yesterday. I’m weak and I don’t know if I’ll have the strength to summon the Leviathan.”
Gentiana’s expression was emotionless as she took in Lunafreya’s words. Though her expression didn’t say how she felt, Lunafreya knew she was worried deep down.
“The Chosen one and thy sister shall arrive soon. Then the summoning shall take place…”
“How… soon? Will I have a chance to see them before the summoning? If not Noctis… can I at least see Y/N? She’s been so worried about me and I want to properly-“ Lunafreya suddenly stopped speaking as a lump formed in her throat. Tears formed in her eyes as she thought about the words she was going to say. “Properly… say goodbye…”
Gentiana bowed her head as she crossed her hands in front of her. Lunafreya stared silently at the woman as a tear escaped her eye. “Within a week’s time shall they be here. From Umbra’s report, there are still things to be done in Lucis…”
“Will I see Y/N when they arrive? Will I be able to hug my sister for one last time?” Lunafreya swallowed hard to push back the lump. Instead of giving her an answer, Gentiana bowed to the oracle to dismiss herself. Lunafreya’s eyes widened in shock as the messenger vanished in front of her. Unable to control her tears any longer, Lunafreya let out a loud wail as she dropped to her knees.
“Noctis… Y/N… I’m so sorry…”
~!~
Your POV (Eight years ago)
“When the light fades from this world, I’ll no longer be by your side,” Lunafreya smiled sadly at the sky above her as a 13-year-old you rolled your eyes at your sister’s words for the umpteenth time. There she goes, spewing nonsense about whatever it was – the end of the world? – that she read from that fairytale book she’s obsessed with. You both were out in the field of sylleblossoms, lazily watching the clouds float by. It was the first time you had spent time with your sister since she was sworn in as the new oracle. Immediately after the coronation, she had to travel to begin healing people from the scourge and reassuring people about the world. With her gone, that left you alone with Imperial soldiers who didn’t give you the time of day. You were lucky if they fed you. When Lunafreya started her travels, the ones you considered family went with her – Umbra, Pryna, and Gentiana. Ravus, of course, was now affiliated with the Empire. He stopped visiting as often after Lunafreya became the oracle. You had asked to be allowed to travel with your sister, however, the Empire didn’t trust you outside of the manor in fear you were plotting something against them. They weren’t wrong. If it wasn’t for Lunafreya, everything would’ve been up in flames by now.
“Is this what they teach you when you travel? That when the sun sets or whatever, you’re gonna just… poof, disappear?” You propped yourself up on your elbow to look at her. The 16-year-old let out a heavy sigh as she closed her eyes, a frown now present on her face.
“It is predestined by the Gods…”
“Well tell the Gods that as long as I’m here, you’re not going anywhere! I vow to protect you with my entire being!” Lunafreya’s eyes widened in sudden shock as you quickly jumped up and grinned smugly towards the sky. “We’ll always be together, no matter what the dumb Gods say.”
“Y/N, you can’t call them du-“
“And,” You looked down at the blonde teenager as she stared up at you, her blue eyes glistening with tears. “I’ll make sure to always put your happiness before mine. Besides, if it wasn’t for you… I wouldn’t be alive right now. I owe you everything, Lunafreya.”
Lunafreya let out a small chuckle as a tear rolled down her cheek. Hopping up, she immediately engulfed you in a hug. “Being my sister is enough.”
Closing your eyes, you returned her embrace. However, you immediately opened them as your eyes landed on the Imperial soldiers that stood guard from a far distance. You vowed to get Lunafreya out of here, whether you escaped with her or not. It was your fault that she was in this mess, so you would be the one to get her out. Lunafreya’s happiness was all you wanted for her and you wanted to be the one to give it to her.
~!~
Gladiolus’s POV
Usually Gladiolus and Ignis were the first ones to awaken among the four men – Noctis being last, of course. The muscular man would go off to a clear field not too far from the camp or motel while Ignis would be on a search for breakfast. Since Y/N joined the group, sometimes she would assist Ignis with the cooking – though the woman obviously had no idea as to what she was doing. Gladiolus would tease her about how it was because she came from royalty. That usually resulted in Y/N shooting daggers in his directions.
This morning was a little different, however. Ignis was uncharacteristically still asleep. Gladiolus assumed he was trying to gather as much sleep as possible to prepare for the long drive to Cape Caem. He didn’t understand why the 22-year-old didn’t just ask Noctis to assist in driving. The prince had held a license since he was 16, after all. Carefully making his way to the front of the room, Gladiolus glanced over at Prompto and Noctis who were dead to the world. He frowned slightly as his eyes focused in on Noctis. The prince was almost hopeless. Sure, he was strong, and his scrawny muscles got him by most days when fighting imperials and daemons, but his mentality was what Gladiolus feared the most. Was the prince aware of what was happening? Did he realize he ruled over Lucis now? More importantly, was Gladiolus fitted to protect the nonchalant prince? There were days the royal guard felt he could never live up to his father’s name or the past royal guards of the Lucis Caelum family. Hell, he felt even worse he couldn’t protect Jared or be there for Iris in her time of need. Was he fitted to guard someone so important to the world?
Shaking these thoughts from his head, he quietly slipped out of the room, shutting the door behind him. The motel they were staying in had a barren field behind it. Gladiolus had peeped out the place when they first arrived and instantly thought it was perfect for training. As he walked down the hall, his eyes glanced towards the door where Iris and Y/N slept. He thought about asking Y/N to train with him but knowing Iris, she would beg to come train as well. Gladiolus didn’t want his only remaining family member anywhere near danger. He was so relieved when they arrived at Lestallum and saw Iris wasn’t hurt.
The sun was just starting to rise, burning the remaining lurking daemons with its rays. Gladiolus was kind of glad that sun took out the pests as he didn’t feel like risking his life during training to fight them today. Usually he didn’t mind, but his mind just wasn’t there. As he climbed over the fence that separated the small outpost from the field, he squinted his eyes as he saw a flash of blue go off in the distance followed by the screams of a saberclaw. That was weird, he thought as he slowly trudged towards where the light came from. He was pretty sure he left everyone still asleep at the motel.
As he got closer, he noticed a female figure take shape before him. Soon, he was able to make out her appearance; her neck-length hair was pulled into a low ponytail as she adorned a simple white tank top and black leggings. Gladiolus already knew who it was but the armlet that adorned her right arm to symbolize her affiliation with Tenebrae gave it away the most.
“I thought princesses slept in to get their beauty sleep?” Gladiolus smirked as he approached her.
“Shit!” The woman jumped in fear as she whipped around to come face to face with the older man. “What the hell, Gladio, you scared me.”
“My bad, princess,” Gladiolus let out a hearty laugh only to stop as he examined Y/N’s face. The hair that escaped from her ponytail clung to her face from the beads of sweat present. Grabbing the edge of her tank, she wiped it off, flashing her bare stomach briefly. Gladiolus cleared his throat as he shifted his eyes elsewhere. “So, what brings you out here at the ass crack of dawn?”
“What’s it look like? I’m training,” She shrugged as she turned her attention back towards another saberclaw.
“Training involves more than just throwing daggers at some saberclaws,” Gladiolus chuckled. “How about I help you out-“
“I believe I’ve told you this before but I’m well trained thanks to my brother,” Y/N threw a glance over her shoulder at Gladiolus.
“The same brother who easily blocked your attack and pushed you down when we ran into him?” Gladiolus smirked as he saw the woman tense up briefly. “Or have you acquired a new brother since then?”
Lowering her daggers, Y/N turned around slowly while rolling her eyes at the older man. “Okay, Gladiolus, let’s train.”
Gladiolus’s already present smirk widened at her words. “My pleasure, princess.”
~!~
Your POV
“Put away your daggers. It’s not all about weapons,” Gladiolus said as he began to remove the black tank he wore. Your eyes widened as he revealed his muscular physique, taking notice of the tattoo that extended from one arm to another. On the left of his chest, the image of a squawking bird’s head connected to the rest of the tattoo. You gulped nervously before quickly shifting your eyes away from the man, face turning red in the process.
“What? Never seen a body quite as sexy as mine, before?” Gladiolus obnoxiously asked, causing you to snap your head back at him in annoyance. Avoiding looking at his body, you forced yourself to look him into his eyes.
“Are we gonna train or what?” You frowned at him. He let out a chuckle as he got into a battle stance, fists blocking his face.
“Of course. Try aiming for my face,” He said as he watch you get into your own stance. He nodded at you to go as you took off running towards him, preparing to aim for his stomach – abs – that would cause him to move his hands down there, leaving his face open. However, as you began to execute your punch, his arms immediately grabbed onto yours and twisted them around.
“Ow, what the hell?!” Your grimaced as he held tightly onto you.
“Too easy. Your eyes glanced at my stomach and I knew you would aim there first. The eyes will always be a dead giveaway to where the opponent will attack first,” He explained as he let go of your arms. Shaking the pain out of them, you regained your stance and frowned at him. “Try again.”
You and Gladiolus spent the next 30 minutes or so training – mostly you attempting to attack and Gladiolus immediately blocking it. It frustrated you at how easy it was for the prince’s shield to block your attacks that once worked on Ravus. After training with him for years, you were positive you could handle any attack given. Hell, it wasn’t even that long ago you took on a train of Imperials. What had happened since then? Had you somehow weakened? You couldn’t even fight off Ravus that time you guys met up with him just as Gladiolus had said. How were you going to get your revenge on the Empire and protect Lunafreya like this? Your mind wandered as you tried to land another surprise attack on Gladiolus by swinging your leg in the air to push him backwards with your foot. However, Gladiolus caught your foot before it made contact and pulled you towards him by it. Losing your balance immediately, you fell into the man’s sweaty chest just as he released your foot. His hands rested on your waist as he steadied you up.
“What’s on your mind?” Gladiolus asked as he looked down at you. “You’re not focused on this.”
“H-huh?” You blinked at him before shrugging his hands off you. “I’m not thinking about anything besides how to successfully kick your ass.”
“Well that’s not gonna happen if you’re not focused,” Gladiolus shrugged as he backed away from you and plopped himself on the ground. “What’s on your mind? I know I’m not Prompto but hopefully you can talk to me as well. We’re all friends here.”
You bit your bottom lip nervously as you stared at the man. He was nonchalantly looking towards the sky. He wasn’t going to pressure you into telling him what was wrong, but you knew if you didn’t, his feelings would be slightly hurt. You wanted to tell him, of course, but you couldn’t tell him everything. You could mention your worry about Lunafreya or how you just wanted to hurry up and be reunited with her. You could tell him about how her happiness meant the world to you and you wanted to see her smile brightly again as she once did when she was 12 – before the Empire attacked. You wanted to tell him how there was one person that you knew could make her happy like that again but… that person happened to be the same person who made you happy. Though you didn’t show it often, there was no denying he made your heart flutter and wish that it was you he loved and not your sister. That it was you who was meant to stand by his side. How Iris’s words from the previous night had been ringing in your ears since last night and that’s why you had been out training since the first rays of the sun had risen.
“You’re telling me you don’t feel anything when you’re with him?”
Of course, you felt something when you were with him. You always did. And that scared you. That’s why you pushed him and your feelings away. You couldn’t hurt Lunafreya again and knowing that you were… in love with him would kill her.
“I… I’m in love with him…” You finally said as you lowered your eyes away from Gladiolus and to the ground. “But… I can’t… have him…”
“Why not?” Gladiolus immediately said. “Cindy isn’t interested in Prompto, I can guarantee you that. You have a chance. Though, I’d have to say, never thought he’d be your type.”
You let out a low chuckle. You couldn’t tell if Gladiolus was being serious or not. “My life would be so much easier if my feelings were for Prompto…”
Silence fell between you two and the only thing that could be heard was the low howl of the wind and the feet of saberclaws running in the distance. Gladiolus stood up from the ground and made his way over to you. Placing a hand on your shoulder, you looked up at him with tears forming in your eyes.
“The prince, no, king makes the final call, right? About who he wants to be with? Don’t doubt yourself so much, kid. Noctis cares for you a lot more than you may think. As for your relationship with your sister… how do you expect to make Lady Lunafreya happy when you’re not happy yourself? She won’t be happy if you’re not. You’ve risked your life for your sister’s happiness. To me, that’s the most selfless act. Be selfish for once, Y/N,” Gladiolus squeezed your shoulder as a tear fell from your eye and onto his arm. He didn’t understand. He didn’t know the full story like Prompto did. You couldn’t have Noctis because of Lunafreya and because of your affiliation with Niflheim. He wouldn’t accept you. Your feelings for him would never be reciprocated, no matter how much Noctis cared for you. He was your brother-in-law. That was all.
“Hey, what are you guys doing?” The voice of Iris could be heard from the near distance. Gladiolus and you turned your heads towards the sound of her voice. Everyone was apparently awake and ready to hit the road as Ignis was signaling for you two to come over there. Prompto was on his phone while Iris was shouting at Gladiolus to put a shirt on and stop flirting with you. Your eyes landed on Noctis who’s arms were crossed. He seemed to be glaring at the scene in front of him, but he was too far away for you to see well.
Removing yourself from Gladiolus’s grip, you pushed away your previous emotions and waved back at Iris. “We’re coming!” Turning back to Gladiolus, you frowned slightly at him, “Thanks for this talk… but… I just… can’t hurt her like that.”
“Hmph,” was all Gladiolus said as he reached for his shirt to place over his head. He watched as you ran towards the group. As you neared Noctis, you must’ve said something to the prince because his body posture suddenly became stiff and his gloved hand went immediately to his face as if to hide something. You smiled gently at him before throwing an arm around Prompto’s neck, distracting him from his phone, and walking towards the Regalia. Noctis turned briefly to watch the scene before glancing back at Gladiolus who smirked at the prince. He didn’t seem to acknowledge it, however, as he began to follow the others to the car.
“He definitely loves her…”
~!~
“Are we there yet?” Prompto whined as the Regalia sped down the roads of Cleigne. You guys had been traveling for about two hours now with Cape Caem still nowhere in sight. Ignis said that everyone would know they were near when they began to see the vast ocean, however, no oceans had appeared as of yet.
“Prompto, if you ask that one more damn time,” Noctis grumbled under his breath.
The seating arrangement for the Regalia was more favorable for you today than it was yesterday. Gladiolus decided to sit in front with Ignis leaving Prompto to the back. Because Prompto was small in figure, everyone was able to fit in the backseat without having to sit on anyone’s lap. You were especially grateful for that. After last night with Iris and this morning with Gladiolus, you didn’t want to be too close to Noctis. Prompto picked up on this as he requested you sit closest to him in the back instead of Iris. Of course, Iris didn’t have a problem with this. Noctis threw you and Prompto glances every now and then whenever he would show you something on his phone or you’d use his bony shoulder as a pillow.
“We probably won’t make it again today…” Ignis said as he eyed the four of you in the back.
“Seriously? Why’d your dad pick such a faraway hideout, Noct?” Prompto complained.
“I don’t know, let me ask him,” Noctis frowned at the blond.
“Yikes, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” Prompto let out a nervous chuckle. Noctis ignored his comment and repositioned himself the best he could in the cramped backseat to sleep comfortably.
“You can sleep on me, Noctis!” Iris suddenly said as she sat up straight and patted her shoulder. Hearing this caused you to lift your head from Prompto’s shoulder and glance at the girl. Your eyes shifted to the front where Gladiolus sat, waiting for him to intervene at any given moment. However, the older man was fast asleep.
“Uh,” Noctis said uncomfortably as he also glanced to Gladiolus for help. Noticing he was asleep as well, he turned and his cerulean eyes met with your hazel ones. Your eyes widened slightly before you pretended to be still half-asleep and dropped your head to Iris’s shoulder that faced you.
“Ugh, Y/N! What are you doing?” Iris frowned as she tried to shrug you off her. However, you just pretended to be asleep and didn’t budge. You had to give it to the young girl, even though she seemed aware of the situation between Noctis, you and Lunafreya, she was still persistent on making him fall for her.
“Mh, you’re more comfortable than Prompto…” You mumbled quietly.
“Hey! Well sleep on her for the rest of the trip then!” Prompto frowned as he scooted closer to the door to create space between you two.
Iris turned her head in disbelief to Noctis who was smirking down at you. However, you didn’t notice as you pretended to be asleep. “Sorry, Iris. Looks like my sis-in-law got to you first. Thanks for the offer, though.”
“Sis-in-law my ass,” You heard Iris mumble under her breath. In response, you shoved your knee into the teenager’s leg, causing her to jump slightly.
The car was silent for awhile as mostly everyone had fallen asleep. The only ones who lay awake were Noctis – surprisingly – Iris, and Ignis, of course. Even you had tricked your brain into falling asleep after all the pretending. However, you could still hear everything that was going on.
“So Noct,” Iris spoke up. Noctis, who was on his phone playing King’s Knight, arched his brow to acknowledge her. “What does she look like? Lady Lunafreya, that is.”
“H-huh?” Noctis stuttered from Iris’s sudden question. The teen only blinked her brown eyes at him as she waited for a response. “Uh… well, I haven’t seen her since I was 8. She had medium-ish blonde hair with bangs? And icy blue eyes? She was taller than me and uh, she was thin?”
“So, you don’t know what she looks like now?”
“No idea… but I’ll know it’s her when I see her. Besides, I’m sure Y/N will point her out to me,” Noctis chuckled slightly as his eyes landed on you.
“What did Y/N look like when she was younger?”
“Y-Y/N?”
“Yeah! Was she always beautiful? You can say if she was or not. She’s like dead asleep,” Iris laughed. She knew you weren’t fully asleep because after asking her question about Lunafreya, you pushed your knee into her leg again.
“Uh,” Noctis glanced at you again to make sure you were asleep. “She was… always beautiful. Her hair was longer when she was younger. It went to the middle of her back but because she was a princess, she kept it in some fancy bun with braids around it. She was much shorter than Luna and probably an inch shorter than me. She’s been short her whole life,” Noctis laughed as he said this. “She didn’t talk to me a lot when I was in Tenebrae but when she did, I remember it making me really happy, even if she was sort of rude.”
“… Why are you not marrying Y-“
“Wake up, everyone! We’ve come near the ocean!” Ignis suddenly said, cutting off Iris. Everyone who was asleep groggily woke up, but their eyes widened when they saw the view of the ocean.
“Whoa! This is beautiful!” Prompto exclaimed as he quickly focused his camera on the ocean before him. The sun was setting, and the orange hue reflected off the calm waters. “Y/N, do you see this?”
You just nodded as you focused on the blue waters. They reminded you of Noctis’s own breathtaking blue eyes. Your cheeks colored themselves in a pink tint as the thought crossed your mind. However, you weren’t just blushing from your thoughts. You were also blushing from what Noctis had said to Iris about you.
“We’re gonna camp near the beach tonight. Is everyone okay with that? The sun is setting and I don’t want to put Ms. Iris in danger,” Ignis said as he pulled the Regalia to the side of a bridge.
“Fine with me. I need to stretch, anyway,” Gladiolus said as he immediately hopped out the car. “The tent isn’t gonna fit all of us, so I volunteer to sleep outside so Iris can get the tent.”
“It’s fine, Gladdy. I can sleep outside,” Iris offered as she exited the backseat of the car.
“No, it’s dangerous. It may be a haven, but I don’t trust it 100 percent.”
“I’ll sleep outside,” Noctis shrugged. “The tent is a cramped when it’s all of in there, anyway.”
“Well, I’m not going to argue with you. I’m gonna go ahead and set up camp,” Gladiolus said as he removed the items he needed from the trunk of the car and made his ways to the stairs attached to the bridge.
“I’m so excited! My first camping trip with you guys!” Iris grinned at you and Noctis.
“It’s not all that it’s cracked up to be,” You mumbled as you pushed past her and began to follow the others who had already started walking. Shrugging, Iris ran to catch up with you as Noctis strolled lazily behind.

Aranea’s POV
“Were you able to recruit her?” The smooth voice of Ardyn filled the woman’s ears. She rolled her eyes as she leaned against one of the rails overlooking the city of Altissia. Pushing herself off it, she casually strolled past Ardyn and several of the imperial soldiers behind him.
“Is she here now?” Aranea sarcastically asked as she pretended to look around the area for Y/N. “Because I don’t see her anywhere.”
“We don’t pay you to fail missions-“
“Ha!” Aranea let out a loud, breathy laugh. “Pay me? You guys barely pay me. I go out of my way for the Empire only to barely afford to feed myself half the time. I don’t do this for the money, buddy. I do this to serve my country.”
“Buddy is no way to refer to your chancellor,” Caligo suddenly spoke up. At the sound of his voice, Aranea whipped her head to the short, pudgy man and gave him an incredulous look.
“I don’t think you have the right to speak to me since you’ve been demoted. Y/N almost ended you and you barely escaped,” Aranea hissed. “If I were her, I would’ve finished you off whether the prince intervened or not.”
“You bit-“
“Alright, alright, settle down. You both failed your missions, however, you both have the opportunity to regain yourselves-“
“I’m really not up for kicking their asses again, “Aranea groaned. “She’s not going to join us, anyway. She’s too much in love with her prince to betray him now. Anyone with eyes can tell she loves him. They came into the arena holding hands.”
“She really is a traitor. How could she love a Lucian – more specifically – the prin-“
“Shut up, Caligo,” Ardyn said sharply, causing the man to stiffen. A smirk played on Ardyn’s face as Aranea’s information registered in his mind. “So… both of the Nox Fleuret sisters are in love with the prince, huh? This could… actually work.”
“What are you planning, Ardyn?” Aranea arched a brow as the red-haired man began to pace back and forth.
“Do you happen to know which sister the prince has feelings for?” Ardyn asked, ignoring Aranea’s question.
“The one he was supposed to marry, I suppose, but he and Y/N have chemistry… why?”
“It’d be a shame if… one of them just… died in an attack or something…”
“Why do you want to kill the sisters? What have they done to you? I agreed to recruit Y/N and fuck around with the prince’s head a for a bit, not kill anyone,” Aranea immediately said.
“This could work in my favor…” Ardyn smirked to himself as a new set of plans began to roam his mind. Noticing Aranea and Caligo were still staring at him in a confused way, he replaced his smirk with a grin and snapped his fingers. “New plan! Aranea, you and I will be headed back to Lucis to assist the prince with the next royal arm he has to receive.”
“I said I’m not-“
“We’re not fighting them. We’re assisting them. Redeem yourself with the prince and his entourage.”
“And what about me?” Caligo spoke up. Ardyn turned his head over his shoulder and threw a smirk at him.
“You stay here and train. I have a feeling… a world-changing even will be going down soon. You need to prepare yourself, Caligo. And as for you…” Ardyn looked towards a soldier who stood upright, shotgun pressed tightly into their chest. “Step forward.”
“Sir!” The soldier immediately responded as he took a step forward. Aranea arched her brow again as the soldier’s voice rang through her ears. She’s heard that voice before. It was stern and emotionless. It’s been a while since she’s heard it since she’d moved up in the ranks, so she couldn’t quite put her finger on who the voice belonged to.
“Are you ready to meet your daughter again?” Ardyn smirked at the soldier. Aranea’s eyes immediately widened at Ardyn’s words. This soldier was…
“Maybe you’d be able to convince Y/N that she should be assisting us. You are her father after all. Do whatever you deem as necessary,” Ardyn’s eyes darkened as the man nodded his head in confirmation and returned to his spot beside the other Imperials.
“What… is he planning?” Aranea quietly asked herself as she stared in shock at the man known as Y/N’s dad. Whatever Ardyn had up his sleeve, she knew it meant danger for the prince, the oracle, and Y/N. She had to find a way to let them know or even stop it before it was too late.
“Okay, so when do we leave for Lucis?” Aranea asked.
Ardyn just threw another smirk at her. “Tonight. We must prepare the temple, after all!”

Your POV
You lay awake in the tent, staring into the darkness that surrounded you as the others slept. The flames from the still burning fire pranced its shadows on the tent’s walls from the outside. Dinner was hours ago as it was about 2 in the morning. Noctis was sleeping outside so you guessed he kept awakening to add more wood to keep the fire alive. Though it was the middle summer, the beach that you guys camped on was a bit chilly without the sun’s warmth around. Even inside the tent, you were shivering from the cold. Prompto and Iris slept the closest to you while Gladiolus and Ignis occupied the other corner of the tent. You worried about Noctis who was outside alone. Though he claimed he wanted to sleep outside, you couldn’t help but think he felt a bit lonely. As far as you know, ever since the boys started traveling together, no one was left to sleep alone. You decided that you should check up on him. Besides, if he was awake, which you doubted, you wanted to ask him about what he meant by his words from the previous night – that he could never hate. It’s been nagging you in the back of your mind since he said it, but you didn’t want to make the situation awkward between you both with the others noticing. Maybe it didn’t mean anything. Maybe he just really cared for you as Gladiolus said. Maybe…
You quietly got up from your spot, careful not to wake up the others, and made your way out of the tent. To your surprise, Noctis was sitting in his chair, a blanket draped over his shoulders, staring at the fire before him. Quietly, you walked towards the prince. He must’ve heard the crunching sand underneath your feet as he whipped his head in your direction. A blush creeped up your face from being caught as you shyly waved at him before continuing to walk towards him.
“Are you okay?” Noctis asked as you neared him. You just nodded your head as you plopped down in the chair beside him. A small shiver coursed through your body as the heat from the fire and the coolness from the night air collided with one another. “Do you want to use my blanket?”
“I’m fine, thanks…” You said as you avoided his eyes that were staring at you. “So, uh, why aren’t you asleep?”
“I could ask you the same,” He smirked at you. It only lasted a second, however, as it fell. “Just… thinking about everything that’s happened lately… and how close we are to seeing-“
“Lunafreya?” You cut him off, already knowing that was the name he was about to say. He just nodded at you while your heart sunk slowly in your chest. “I’m… looking forward to seeing her, too. I just want to hold her in my arms and apologize for ever leaving her…”
Noctis’s eyes widened at your words. “Oh yeah, why did you come to Insomnia? Was it to see me?”
Noctis playfully smirked at you as he awaited your answer but was only surprised when you nodded your head in agreement. “It was my birthday… and I just wanted to see Lunafreya happy again, like she always was whenever you sent her those messages in the notebook. She would read your messages repeatedly just to feel connected to you somehow. At night, she’d sometimes cry… I didn’t know why until I overheard her talking to Gentiana about her life being unfair… how she wished she wasn’t an oracle and how she could just love and be with you. But those… assholes… the Gods, they took that all away from her. So, to reunite you guys, I went to Insomnia to find a way to tell you all this in hopes you would’ve come back with me. Now that I think about it, it wouldn’t have worked. Tenebrae is filled with Imperials ready to attack your family… I was really stupid…”
“You’re not stupid for wanting your sister to be happy…” Noctis said softly. “I want Luna to be happy as well.”
“She’ll be happy once you two are together. Maybe you can finally plan this wedding that’s been delayed which feels like for centuries,” You let out a forced laugh at your words. Noctis didn’t laugh, however, as he slightly frowned at you.
“I think… Luna will be happier once she sees you and knows with her own eyes that you’re safe. She really loves and cherishes you, you know?” Noctis said. “I promised not to tell you this but, when we were kids, she was really sad when you wouldn’t play with us…”
“Luna why are you sad?” An 8-year-old Noctis watched worriedly as the 12-year-old girl shed tears on the drawing before her. She was fine just a few seconds ago so Noctis didn’t understand why the girl was suddenly crying. The girl often looked distant whenever Noctis and her would play together, but she’d quickly cover it up with a smile.
“I-“ She sniffed, “I miss my sister. Why won’t she play with us as well? Did I do something? I ask her, and she tells me no and goes to play with our brother. Why doesn’t she like me anymore?”
Noctis’s eyes lowered as he listened to Luna’s words. He knew that it wasn’t Luna that Y/N didn’t want to play with – it was him. The boy didn’t understand why Y/N didn’t like him. However, that shouldn’t stop her from playing with her sister. The day he met the Nox Fleuret sisters, he knew that Y/N really looked up and loved Luna. He felt bad for getting in the way of that relationship.
Sighing, Noctis rolled his wheelchair over to Luna and placed a comforting hand on top of hers. “I’m sorry… Y/N doesn’t like me... so maybe she doesn’t want to play with you because of me. I can go hang with my dad if that’ll make her play with you…”
Luna let out a chuckle as she placed her other hand over Noctis’s and blinked her tears away. “There’s no need for that. I’ll be okay. I’m sure she likes you, so don’t worry, okay? Also, Noctis…”
“Hm?” The boy widened his eyes at the older girl.
“Promise not to tell Y/N I cried over her, okay? I know she isn’t doing this on purpose and it’ll probably break her to know that she upset me.”
Noctis immediately grinned at the girl. “It’s a promise!”
“She cried… because of me?” You blinked at the prince before you.
“Don’t tell her I told you – hey, Y/N, what’s wrong?” Noctis looked at you as tears ran down your face. You stared off distantly at the ocean and the moonlight that reflected off it. You’ve hurt Lunafreya before to the point that she cried? How many other times have you hurt your sister? How many times have you betrayed her? Even with being careful of every move you make and going out of your way to bring happiness to your sister, you still hurt her. You bit down on your bottom lip hard enough to break its skin and taste blood as your thoughts continued to run wild.
“Hey,” Noctis’s voice broke you from your thoughts as he was now crouched down in front of you, both of his hands caressing your own. More tears fell down your face as you looked at him. Without a second thought, his thumb came to your face and brushed away your tears. The mere touch caused another shiver to run through you. “We were kids… it’s not that big of deal, right? You know you love Luna. Luna knows you love her and would never purposefully hurt her and-“
You stared at Noctis as he tried to calm you. He was always trying to calm you and trying to get you to open up to him – even as kids. The night at the hotel in Lestallum where you got him to admit to you his true emotions about his father. Originally, he wanted you to open up to him, but you managed to flip the script. Then the other times he’s come to comfort you or even save your life. The time where he stopped you from killing Ravus and even the other night from that Imperial commander. Noctis was always there reassuring you and making sure you were okay. And… each time, you fell deeper for him. Deeper in love with the man that was meant for your sister. In love with the man that would hurt Lunafreya for life if she found out you held the same feelings for the man she confessed to you she loved so many years ago.
“Are you listening to me, Y/N?” Noctis looked into your hazel eyes, causing your heart to stop as you locked your eyes with his. Love. That’s what you saw in his worried eyes as they searched your watery ones. Love. It was what Iris, Prompto, Gladiolus, and even Ignis had been hinting at all along. Noctis loved you. At this realization, your eyes filled with tears as you abruptly stood up and attempted to walk away from the campsite. However, Noctis was faster and grabbed onto your hand and pulled you into him. Your eyes widened as he held onto you for a while. “Do you know how to dance?”
“H-huh?” You hiccupped, taken aback by his sudden question. Here you were crying about your situation and he wanted to dance?
“Princesses know how to dance, right?” He asked as he pulled himself away from you slightly. You watched as Noctis grabbed your hand and placed it on his shoulder while he took the other in his own hand. He then gently placed his free hand on your waist and looked back at you with gently smile. Meanwhile you blinked confusedly at him. “As a prince, I kinda had no choice but to learn. I hate it, but I’ve been told it helps people temporarily forget their problems.”
“I-I,” Your face was red, you knew it. Hopefully, he would think it was from your crying. “I know… the basics.”
“Okay, I’ll lead,” Noctis said as he began to sway you around. You hadn’t danced ballroom style in so long. Your eyes kept glancing towards your feet to make sure you didn’t step on his as he twirled you around the fireplace. “Try not to look at your feet so much…”
You nodded as you looked up at him. He grinned at you as he spun you around, causing a small laugh to escape from you. This was a side you haven’t seen of Noctis before. Did Lunafreya know about this charming side to the prince? Did he ever tell Lunafreya that he wanted to dance with her in front of a fireplace that overlooked the ocean? That he wanted to spin her around until she got dizzy and tripped over her own feet with him catching her each time? How he’d stare lovingly at her as the moonlight reflected in her glassy blue eyes that had a few moments ago been crying? Did Lunafreya know this side of Noctis? You wanted to think she didn’t… that he was only this way with you. The shy, distant prince that people came to know disappeared into a gentle, caring one when he was comfortable with those around him.
“Why… can’t you hate me…?” You muttered as you two continued to dance around the fire. However, at your words, Noctis halted his movement and looked down at you, tilting his head slightly in confusion.
“Huh?”
“Why can’t you hate me?” You asked a bit louder this time, so he could hear. “Even if I did something horrible… or was a part of something horrible. If I were the cause for all the trouble in your and Lunafreya’s life…wouldn’t you hate me?”
“Does Lunafreya know about this horrible thing?” You nodded as Noctis chuckled. “Then if she doesn’t hate you… then why would I? I literally cannot hate you, Y/N. I will never hate you.”
At his words, you broke your hand away from his and wrapped your arms around his waist, taking him by surprise, as you buried your face in his chest. He smelled similar to how he did the day you met him again in Hammerhead. His musky cologne applied from earlier today mixed in with the smell of nature. “Why…”
“Huh?” He said as he still stood frozen.
“Why can’t you be mine?”
Your eyes widened at your words as you realized what you had just said. Immediately, you tried to pull yourself away from the prince, but was prevented from doing so when he wrapped his arms around you. Your heart was pounding so loudly you could practically hear them in your ears. Maybe he didn’t hear you? Maybe he was just returning your hug? Maybe he-
“Y/N, can I kiss you?”
You pulled yourself away from him at those words and stared up at him. His face was red as he avoided your eye contact. “I-I’m sorry. Forget I asked. I’m-“
~!~
Noctis’s POV
Why did he ask her that? She was clearly upset about hurting her sister. Her sister that was clearly in love with him. And here he was asking could he kiss her. But, he couldn’t help it. Her questioning why he couldn’t be hers? He didn’t want anything but to be hers. And to hear the woman he was in love with indirectly tell him she felt the same, how else was he supposed to react? Maybe not asking her to kiss him, however. Noctis wanted to crawl into a hole. When did he even become this bold? He was trying to cheer up the crying woman, not make her uncomfortable. She stared at him for a while as he tried to stumble out an apology.
“I’m sorry-“
“I’m sorry…” Y/N said which gave Noctis his answer. He blushed in embarrassment as he slowly dropped his arms from the woman. He knew he messed up. Ugh, how was he going to come back from this now. “Lunafreya, please forgive me…”
Noctis looked down at the former princess in confusion as she looked up at Noctis and nodded her head at him. “You can kiss me…”
Noctis let out a shaky breath as a small smile became present on his lips. Carefully, he cupped Y/N’s face and brought his face down to hers. His eyes flicked up to her already closed ones. He chuckled as he saw her awaiting his kiss. Gently, he placed his lips onto hers. At first, she didn’t react to it however, he was reassured she didn’t regret her decision when her arms snaked around his neck to bring him closer to her. He obliged as he moved his hands from her face and to her waist, deepening the kiss in the process. Was he really kissing Y/N? The woman he had been in love with for so long? It was like a dream come true.
And just like dreams, the moment abruptly as she pulled away and looked at him in horror.
“I-I’m sorry…” She said as she gazed at him for a moment for disappearing back into the tent. Noctis stood there in shock as his lips still tingled from her soft ones being on his. He glanced towards the tent where she disappeared to and let a small smile dance upon his lips.
“I’ve always been yours… Y/N…”

1,001 Lucian Nights -- Somnus x F!reader fanfiction (Ch.1)
Summary: After what he did to Ardyn, Somnus becomes haunted by the memories. Yet he soon finds comfort in the woven stories of a young woman. (Arabian Nights AU)
Despite everything Somnus has done, I still think he is a great character. And I also noticed there was a severe lack of Somnus fanfiction and decided to write my own. Please enjoy everyone! (also shout out to @maty-yami for motivating me to write this, you are amazing! ^_^)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hail Lord Somnus Lucis Caelum; Chosen King of Lucis!”
The roar of the crowd was near deafening as Somnus slowly continued forward onto the stone path that led to the steps of the Citadel. Banners of deep, navy blue with golden embroidery swayed in the wind as azure and ivory sylleblossom petals were tossed into the air. A smile came to his lips as Somnus ushered Ferox forward, waving to the cheering masses as his loyal chocobo continued down the main thoroughfare toward the steps of the Citadel. He could already see Gilgamesh standing beside the young Selene Nox Fleuret, the old warrior clothed in full regalia and appearing rather gargantuan compared to the petite Oracle and the other noble lords. Dismounting his mount, Somnus continued on foot down the stone path and up the carpet covered steps; coming to a halt before the two and knelt down upon the crimson fabric.
The Oracle then lifted her silver trident and tapped it upon the marble floor, the sound piercing the air and silencing the cheering people. “Somnus Lucis Caelum…. Lord of House Caelum. Do you solemnly swear to defend the people of this realm to the best of your ability? To ensure their happiness and protection as sovereign?”
“I so swear,” he answered clearly.
Yet his words were only met by a cruel laugh, “you’re lying~.” The sound sending a chill down his spine as he soon recognized the cold voice that spoke was not belonging to Selene.
Somnus felt a hand tightly grasp his hair and yank his head upward, causing him to wince in pain as he watched in horror at the sight twisted and grotesque figure of a man. His skin was a sickly, pallid color and covered with black veins across his flesh as ebony sludge spilled from his body. The sound of screams echoed all around as the once joyous atmosphere was replaced by shadow and destruction. Gilgamesh lay dead upon the steps with his armor broken and his body pierced by spectral blades while Lady Selene once ivory gown was soaked with blood as lifeless eyes stared back. Storm blue eyes soon faced glowing gold as Somnus met the beast’s eyes to see naught but madness lingering in their depths. “You are nothing. Nothing but a jealous boy; only desiring power and forsaking any who stand in your way.”
“N-No… that’s not true.” He stuttered back in defense.
The monster laughed, lifting him higher to allow a black claw to wrap about his throat, causing Somnus to gasp as his hand immediately went to his neck. “Think on your sins…brother.”
All Somnus could do was scream as the spectral blades descended into his body…..
A scream soon echoed around the lavish bedroom as Somnus sat upright, drenched in sweat with an expression of pure terror upon his face. His heart still pounding within his chest as the door burst open to reveal two glaives, weapons raised at the ready at the sound of their lord’s cries. “Your majesty, are you well? We heard a scream and-“
“I am fine,” he replied, resting his head against his hand.
“But, sire-“
“Leave!” Somnus snapped in anger, glaring at the intruding guards.
The two glaives briefly met each other’s gaze before bowing and exiting the bed chamber. It was only after the guards had left did Somnus rise from the chaise and moved toward the wash bowl, the cool water chasing away the exhaustion he felt. Glancing into the mirror, the ebony-haired lord glared at the reflected image presented to him; noticing the prominent shadows beneath his eyes and slight paleness of his skin. It seemed the damage caused by the night terrors was beginning to become far more evident than Somnus cared to admit, much to the young lord’s frustration. He recalled the ever-expanding shadows, the corpses that littered the streets of Insomnia, and the helplessness he felt as that… man lay ruin to everything. Somnus took a few deep breaths until his fist lashed out and smashed into the mirror, shattering the looking glass and the image within.
“I assume the mirror had it coming, your majesty,” came the low rumble of Gilgamesh’s voice, accompanied by the sound of heavy metallic footsteps.
He sighed, “please send a maid to clean the mess.”
“Of course, sire.” Gilgamesh replied, bowing respectfully, “though if I may speak my mind sire, you do not seem well.”
“I am fine Lord Gilgamesh; it is nothing of consequence.”
“With all due respect sire, I have known you since you were a mere boy; I am well aware of when you are lying.…What is it that is troubling you Somnus?”
At the disappearance of the title, Somnus knew that Gilgamesh had set aside formalities in favor of concern, not an action to take lightly. Though the young king knew that Gilgamesh would not leave until he had the answers he sought for; even if he had to resort to drastic methods. Truth be told, Somnus would rather face a horde of daemons with naught but a wooden stick than face Gilgamesh’s wrath; of course, he would never admit that to anyone. “I am simply tired, nothing more.”
“I see, I take it you were kept awake for the evening?”
“Due to simple night-terrors, not company.” Somnus clarified, ignoring his Shield’s teasing smirk. “I seem to have had a restless night and did not gain much sleep.”
“Very well sire, I shall inform the court today’s council shall begin at a later hour.”
“I doubt the vindictive serpents would enjoy such an announcement.”
Gilgamesh gave a dry chuckle, “I am certain I can…persuade the lords of court to understand the necessary delay, your majesty.”
Somnus opened his mouth to object before shutting it once more. “…Thank you, Gil.”
The ivory-haired soldier gave a nod of acknowledgement before leaving once more. When Somnus was alone again he collapsed upon the nearest chair in exhaustion, his mind still lingering upon the most recent nightmare. It was only when he was in his own company did, he let the tears fall from his eyes as his fear overcame him, the weight of his memories falling upon him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morning in the Cavaugh Bazaar was one of the liveliest times in all of Insomnia, the scent of fresh bread and wafted through the gentle breeze, enticing would-be patrons to various vendor. The rhythmic sound of steel upon an anvil echoed from every blacksmith while the constant chatter of people and the hollers of merchants simply added a particular vibrancy to the over-crowded marketplace. Yet despite the numerous distractions from the bustling city bazaar, your gaze remained transfixed upon a sole entertainer near the edge of the main square. His robes and coat consisted of various shades of brown and grey while his greying hair was tucked beneath a tattered and well-loved hat, a telling sign of his simplistic and nomadic lifestyle. However, while his clothing seemed in poor taste, the man displayed a charm and kindness that was uncommon in this day and age; easily wrapping you within the world of his narration’s. And judging from the various people who all sat near the man's feet, your attention was not the only one he had managed to claim.
“And so, she had awoken once more only to find her beloved dead.” The storyteller spoke in a chilling manner as the audience listened with batted breath. “Filled with grief at the loss of her love, she took hold of the dagger and plunged the blade into her heart. With a final gasp for air, she slumped forward upon her love’s body; dead. Now the two lovers may finally find joy of eternal companionship….in the arms of Death.”
A large cry of surprise resulted from several members of the audience before a soft applause spilled out and money began to fall into the wooden bowl. You quickly stood up and moved toward the old storyteller, more than happy to provide a few gil for the thrilling story. Upon your approach, the man smiled; “back again, Lady (f/n)? That is the 5th time this week alone.”
“I could sit here for hours just listening to your tales Master Sidolfus,” you replied kindly.
Sidolfus beamed at your response, “you are too kind, my dear. It seems to me you have been charmed by the realm of fables and folktales, hmm?”
“I suppose the written world had first captured me as a child,” you laughed. “But to see you conjure such tales of wonder…. it’s a miracle.”
“Stories are far more important than people are led to believe. They teach us how to live, and why.”
After bidding Sidolfus farewell, you found yourself exiting the bazaar and continuing past the residential district toward the Citadel. The ivory stronghold towered over the remaining constructions within Insomnia, playing host to the Crystal and its newly minted guardian: The King of Lucis. Proceeding to the secluded entrance for servants and guards near the back of the Citadel, you entered the facility and continued past the servant’s quarters and kitchen toward the East Wing where the guest chambers resided and hosted the Oracle herself. The newly polished marble floor caused a slight tap each time your shoe made contact with it and echo across the vast corridors, making you frown in distaste at the rather obnoxious noise. When you finally arrived at the Oracle’s chambers, you nodded in greeting to the two soldiers standing guard and gently rapped your knuckles against the door. “Come in,” came the muffled reply.
“Forgive my late arrival, your Ladyship, I was out in the bazaar this morning and- oh, Lord Gilgamesh.” You paused; surprise evident on your face at the famed Blademaster conversing with the Oracle; Selene Nox Fleuret before you bowed to both respectfully. “I was not aware you were busy, your Ladyship.”
“It is no trouble (f/n), our meeting was rather unplanned. Lord Gilgamesh, I believe you have not met my attendant (f/n), you may speak freely in front of her.” Selene replied with a kind smile.
Gilgamesh inclined his head to you in greeting, the warrior appearing far more different without his infamous armor. “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady (f/n), though I wish our meeting was due to less severe circumstances.”
“Is something the matter, your Lordship?” you asked, curiosity coloring your tone.
“His Majesty seems to be suffering from the constant presence of night-terrors, not an ailment to be taken lightly.” Selene conveyed, pouring tea into a third cup and offering it to you; “the lack of rest has caused severe fatigue, paranoia, and aggravation. Normally, such dreams are a few and far between occurrence, however….”
“They are the result of unpleasant memories that continue to haunt him, and I fear that should this pattern continue… it may lead the King down a path where there is no return,” Gilgamesh finished. “And should word begin to travel; the thought of a king who is unfit to rule may lead to civil war amongst the noble lords to decide upon a new ruler, divine decree be damned.”
Selene nodded, “fear not Gilgamesh, I will do all in my power to aid His Majesty.”
“Thank you, Lady Selene. I pray Bahamut may send his chosen reprieve. Lady (f/n).” Gilgamesh spoke, bowing to both of you before exiting the small atrium.
“I was not aware the king was so ill.” You spoke, coming to occupy Gilgamesh’s vacant seat.
“It is not something he tends to reveal so easily,” Selene expressed, the concern evident in her sapphire-blue eyes. “After he was chosen as king, Somnus had changed much from the boy he once was. The burden of a crown weighs heavily upon its sovereign and I fear if his health were to deteriorate further… he may crumble beneath it.”
You turned your gaze to the tea cup in your hand, swirling the liquid gently against the porcelain container. What memories could haunt a man so much that they would torment him so?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day passed quickly with the sun disappearing beyond the horizon to allow the moon and stars to shine in the ebony sky. The once bustling and lively city had calmed with the arrival of night as many retired to their homes or the nearest tavern. Currently you were humming softly under your breath as you twisted Selene’s long, blonde locks into a simple and loose braid for sleep. “Your hair has grown quite long now, my Lady. Perhaps you should think to cut it.”
Selene chuckled, “a tempting suggestion (f/n), though I’m afraid that silly cap I must wear will look far worse were I to have short hair.” Gesturing to the alabaster white headdress that rested beside the vanity mirror, long braided robe tassels hung from twisting fabric cap while a long linen veil trailed behind it.
“I know the headdress is not that heavy, my Lady.”
“No, not at all, but it does make me share the appearance of a ghost.”
The two of you laughed at the image conjured by Selene’s words only to interrupted by a knock upon the door, only to open a reveal a servant. “Lady Oracle, Lady (f/n); may I retrieve this evenings dishes?”
“Of course, and thank you for dinner,” Selene answered back. “(f/n), I can finish here, will you assist Ceres in returning the plate ware to the kitchen?”
“Yes, your Ladyship; and have a good evening.” You replied, bowing in farewell before joining Ceres within the hall.
“S-She knew my name; the Oracle said my name!” The young servant girl gushed quietly.
You smiled at girl’s exuberance before collecting the other trays, “alright, let’s return these to the kitchen and then you can brag about your encounter.”
“Wait, we have to take this to His Majesty’s room first.” Ceres interrupted, lifting a tray of fresh food.
“The King has not eaten yet?” You asked in surprise.
Ceres shook her head, “he always eats late in his chambers, unless there is a fete. Though I don’t get to eat unless it’s delivered and his chambers are across the palace in the North Wing.”
“If that is the case, I will deliver the meal for you while you can return these dishes to the kitchen and have dinner early. How does that sound?”
“Thank you, Lady (f/n)!” Ceres cried happily, immediately switching trays with you and hurrying off to the kitchens.
You chuckled at the sight as you proceeded in the opposite way to the North Wing, “I suppose it is not only an army that marches on its stomach.”
Walking to the main foyer and taking an immediate right, you found yourself in the entrance of the North Wing; where the chambers cleared to provide residence to the royal household. The eerie silence within the empty corridors sent a slight shiver down your spine, making you wonder how his majesty dealt with such a deathly quiet. Arriving toward the only chamber that possessed two guards standing post, you were immediately stopped as their spears crossed your path. “State your business, woman,” the guard on the left demanded harshly.
“I am here to bring His Majesty’s supper, I am Lady (f/n); the Oracle’s attendant.”
“What happened to Ceres?” the guard continued, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“She sprained her ankle and was sent back to the servant’s quarters for the evening, I am delivering this in her stead.”
“….Very well then, proceed.”
“Thank you,” you spoke kindly before entering the room.
Even though you had never been to this portion of the Citadel before, you were not surprised to see how simplistic the King’s chambers were. Placing the tray of food upon the nearest table, you continued your observation of the expansive rooms. Only a few carpets and tapestries lined the floor and walls while sparse furniture such as tables, chairs, pillows, and a chaise littered the small atrium. To the left was what appeared to be a table that was covered by a map that was pinned into place with daggers and beside a large bookshelf of scrolls neatly tucked away in various slots. Further into the room was the bed chamber that extended out into a balcony that offered a wonderous view of Insomnia and the lands of Cavaugh, the sight quite beautiful with the evening light. Though your admiration of the lavish rooms was cut short when you heard the faintest sound of metal and immediately drew the stiletto pin from your hair and raised it in defense. Your thin dagger clashed against the steel of another blade as you found yourself staring into the eyes of the Lucian sovereign.
“I suggest you explain your trespass within my chambers if you value your life,” Somnus spoke, his voice as sharp as the blade held aloft in his hand.
“Forgive me, your Majesty…. I only came to deliver your evening meal, nothing more.”
His eyes came to meet yours as the two of you stood motionless with crossed blades, storm-blue meeting (e/c) iris’ as he searched for the truth in your words. Not a moment later he lowered the dagger in his and sheathed it once more, “I believe you, and I apologize for my actions.”
You slowly twisted the pin into your hair once more, a smile tugging at your lips as you observed the slightly sheepish expression on the king’s face. “You are forgiven, sire, though I feel a twinge of pity for any would-be assassin if that is how you greet your staff.”
Somnus blinked in surprise at your teasing jab before it vanished beneath a solemn and emotionless face. “An assassin would not have the pleasure of my mercy.” He answered, turning away and sitting upon the nearest chair beside the low table that you had placed the meal upon. Yet his expression soon turned to one of distaste as he stared upon the array of food upon the tray.
“Is something the matter, sire?” you questioned politely.
“This plate possesses gyshal greens,” Somnus spoke with a tone of complete loathing. “I am not overly…fond of gyshal greens.”
You tried to hide your amusement, but failed as a snicker escaped your lips, causing Somnus’ attention swerve from the plate and focus onto you. “Did I say something amusing to you?”
“No, no. It’s just that, gyshal greens reminded me of this wonderful story…. Would you like to hear it?”
“I do not care for fairytales,” he answered you dryly.
“I think you will enjoy this one, it’s about Prompto Argentum and the Forty Thieves.”
A sole eyebrow raised as Somnus gave you a look of skepticism and confusion. “Forty thieves? Why forty, and who is this Prompto Argentum?”
“That I will tell you in my tale.” You responded, settling onto a collection of cushions that lay upon the carpet. “You see, Prompto was a young man who lived outside of Lestallum….”
…His best friend had four legs, a tail, and soft, lush ivory fur. Pryna was one of the wisest hounds in all of Duscae and had been Prompto’s companion since he was a child.
A loud bark echoed within the small stone hovel, causing a groan to sound from beneath a threadbare blanket. The ancient cloth soon shifted to reveal a young man of 20 winters with messy bright, blonde hair. Trying to rub the sleep from his eyes, Prompto glanced out the front entrance to his home to see Pryna obediently waiting for her master. “Good morning Pryna, ready to start the day?”
The white dog let loose a cheerful bark which caused a tired grin to appear on Prompto’s face. “That’s the spirit. Loqi, wake up!”
Taking one of his shoes, Prompto flung the slipper toward the other sleeping mound with pin-point accuracy- managing to hit his chosen target. Another groan sounded as the figure in the second pallet shifted in his sleep from the hit to reveal another blonde young man with shoulder-length hair who still remained asleep.
Prompto only had one other family member, an older brother named Loqi. Unlike his younger sibling, Loqi was far lazier and-
“I told you that I don’t care for fairytales,” Somnus snapped, interrupting your narration.
You quickly glanced away to the floor, sorrow creeping into your heart at your failed attempt at storytelling. “The audience must be hooked in the first moments or you’ve lost them. A master storyteller once told me that if you wished to weave stories for another.”
“I am lost,” the ebony-haired king replied, frowning in confusion.
“That’s because, I’ve not told you about… about Verstael. At the time, the region had been ravaged by ruthless mercenaries and savage gangs. And it was Verstael who lead the foulest of them all.” You softly conveyed to your sole audience, as if the murderous fiend himself would appear were you to speak too loudly. “Nowhere was safe.”
Somnus frowned, pondering your words; “I don’t understand, what does such a monster have to do with young Prompto?”
“He made Prompto rich and famous,” you answered earnestly.
When Somnus rose from his seat, you had thought your story over and the audience driven away once more. Yet you watched in shock as the king slowly sunk onto the carpet and against a collection of pillows, his storm colored eyes fixated upon you. “So? How did such a fiend cause Prompto’s good fortune?”
A brilliant smile lite up your face as you proceeded to continue your tale.
