Star wars fix it, but it's about Ezra, Leia and Luke.
(Differences from Canon: Mace and the other Jedi killed Palpatine, Order 66 never happened, Anakin died on Mustafar, and Padme died from her injuries)
I just like to imagine them growing up as triplets.
Like 3-year-old Leia did the equation of Ezra having the same birthday as them, blue eyes like her brother, and dark hair like her.
So they had to be siblings, right?
(This is to the amusement of everyone, especially Obi-Wan and Mace, though the latter will joke about bad influences and all that.)
They grow up loved and protected by their gigantic Jedi family, and their thousands of similar-looking uncles.
When it's finally time for them to enter their padawanship, Leia grabs Obi-Wan, Luke gets tackled by Asoka (who came back to the order after the war ended) and Ezra takes his rightful place as newly knighted Caleb dumes headaches.
(If it weren't him, it would have been Mace or Depa. He was Calebs Foundling and the rest of the shatterpoint line has called dips)
They learn to become stronger and establish themselves as the person that they were always supposed to be.
Leia becomes one of the youngest Jedi masters and is training to become part of the council. She is well known for her no-nonsense nature and her aggressive negotiations.
Luke becomes a Jedi Consular and works on becoming a cherche master. He is known for his seemingly unbreakable patience and the ability to calm any child from a temper tantrum. He was also listed to care for Grogu after his former caretaker died.
Ezra becomes a Jedi Sentinel and specializes in the dark side of the force. Boy has a talent for finding sith shit. He works on finding out more about it so that it would lose that 'magical allure of the unknown/the promise of power'. He is known for his nerves of steel and unableness to fall. He also took in Ben Solo as his padawan

i’m just gonna inform dump about mariejordan au ideas i have in my head that i don’t remember where they came from they’re probably pulled from other people and my love for other media and so they rattle in my brain
1. fake dating where jordan strikes a deal with marie to have her fake date them to bring their rating up totally not because they want to just date marie but don’t know how
2. marie kills rufus with the cocksplosion because the cocksplosion ends up because a headsplosion in her panic and now with jordan as witness (and arguably accomplice (tag team cocksplosion)) , they have to work together to cover up the murder (kill your gays? no, killing gays)
3. not necessarily an au but marie and jordan sparring, end it with the iconic, chest to chest, on the floor, “i win”, and then boom! make out!
4. godolkin university top 10 trip to europe, marie and jordan get lost and have to make their way back to the group (race against time because they’ll be leaving soon maybe?)
5. super powered baby is lost and now they have to work together to handle this kid with a weird handful of superpowers while trying to find their parents or guardians
6. canon divergence universe wherein marie helps save jordan from luke when he was choking them (or not that depends) vought actually chooses jordan and marie to be the “guardians of godolkin”. now they have to navigate this new world as they’re propelled to heights of popularity. also some fake dating / vought pushing an implied relationship, and then angst it with their notion of what a superhero needs to be comes crashing down and they have to deal with the reality that their dream isn’t what they thought it would be (this is for me who wanted marie to admit in the interview and was so bummed when she didn’t)
7. two professors students TAs like imagine jordan and marie as two TAs with professors that hate eachother but work together and so they have the same feelings of hatred toward the other cuz they’re rivals too idk
8. an alternative universe where marie and jordan are assassins haha either they have to kill each other or they work for the same agency and are forced on a mission together
9. not gonna elaborate but figure skating and hockey idk i have no elaboration for this one it just exists in my brain
10. okay i have a sports au problem i admit it but … hear me out volleyball-

Okay, totally unprompted but I'm back on our Kit/Will crossover vibes ergo I'm back on my WIll Parker My Beloved bullshit.
Give me anything about Will. Fun Facts, scene you have in mind, if he will become a superhero/vigilante or not, just something, I need it 🥺
oh man oh man fun facts okay let's go
Will interns at Murdock & Nelson
He does become a vigilante, mostly works with the Defenders but also with Spider-Man and the avengers when he has to
"No, Peter can't go to Germany, he has homework!"
Twitter famous and most of what he does is talk shit about the avengers & shield, thirst over Tony Stark, and "joke" about being an aspiring sugar baby (also famous for starting the hashtag #tonystarkbemysugardaddy)
Blurs the line between big brother & dad energy
Weirdly bonds with Clint Barton because they're both team "I don't have time for this shit I've got kids/a kid to get to school"
His only superpower is being a law student because that level of sleep deprivation and hating the system is a power
Will was a very hyperactive child and his parents both worked long hours so he spent a lot of time in community sports, as he got older he fixated a lot on self defence and martial arts
Asks Matt at least once a day if his vigilantism can count towards internship hours
Meets Amy Bendix and adopts her on sight
Has a small crush on Luke Cage and a huge crush on how easily Luke can manhandle him

Superhero/Superpowers AU Masterlist
a hero, a liar (ao3) - bellawritess luke/ashton, michael/calum T, 10k
Summary: Ashton’s never met Spiderman. Well, never until right now. Never until Spiderman lands on the pavement in front of Ashton.
All I Need for Now is You to Save Me (ao3) - sunsetmagnolia michael/calum G, 1k
Summary: Everyone has superpowers that set in when they're kids. Michael's is fire.
and I breathe disaster, ever after (ao3) - expectopatronuz michael/calum, luke/ashton T, 25k
Summary: The Winter Soldier lands, and if Calum felt heavy before, now he feels empty. Everything inside of Calum, his heart and lungs and stomach and throat, they all drop right down to his feet. Calum is dizzy, he’s breathing but nothing is coming in. His mind is blank, every moment of his life up to this minute, gone. None of it matters, not a moment, except for this; Calum reaching out, the handle tearing away from the side of the train, and the way his heart fell out of his chest when he realized that there was nothing he could do, that it was too late.
or, Calum is Captain America and Michael was his best friend (and maybe more)
Anything For You.. (ao3) - Ukulelelover616 luke/calum N/R, 12k
Summary: Luke and Calum are in love..... It's pretty obvious.. Everyone can tell, except Luke and Calum! I guess you could call it a skinny love. Ashton, Michael, and many others will stop at nothing to get these two together.
Inspired by the Don't Stop music video! (Superpowers AU)
gone off the razor's edge (ao3) - kingscrossinseptember calum/ashton M, 1k
Summary: “You knew I might cause the apocalypse and you still decided to date me?” Calum’s voice rose several octaves as he spoke.
“What can I say, everybody makes bad choices.” Ashton offered up a trembling smile and Calum let out a noise somewhere between a laugh and a sob.
If Walls Could Talk (ao3) - orphan_account michael/calum, michael/luke M, 23k
Summary: “Don’t even fucking say anything about me, Wave. You have no fucking idea why I left the team, and you have no clue how much I lost after it,” Luke says surging forward, eyes glowing bright white and causing the electricity in the room to crackle with his true emotions coming out.
or the Don't Stop AU where everything fell apart.
I hope you like superheroes (ao3) - brokenstereotype luke/ashton T, 20k
Summary: Luke doesn't see the appeal of a guy dressing up in spandex to save the city from nonexistent troubles. It may just be the fact that Michael has made a huge hype about this masked man in tights, but he's just not impressed - until he's on the recieving end of the saving.
i wanna tell you so (how to hold my heart) (ao3) - babushcat (MerrytheCookie) michael/ashton T, 25k
Summary: Ashton turns to greet him, faded red hair swishing gracefully with the motion until the gentle waves settle and frame his face, all sunny grin and perfect dimples and sparkling hazel eyes and Michael hates Calum he hates him so much.
“Oh hey, it’s my favorite customer!” he says with his stupid cute voice constantly sounding on the verge of laughter and happiness and sunshine. Michael hopes his face isn’t as red as it feels, averts his eyes to shield them from the powerful glow Ashton always seems to emanate, “You say that to all your customers.” Michael is a programmer by day, a vigilante’s guy in the chair by night, and a full-time admirer of the cute barista down at the coffee shop he frequents, and sometimes he wonders if everyone around him is way too dramatic or if he's missing something.
Let's be unpredictable (ao3) - orphan_account michael/calum, luke/ashton G, 5k
Summary: the one where malum meet at a detention and everyone thinks Luke's hair is a myth, but it isn't.
Sparkle, Baby, Shine (ao3) - pitypartyof1 michael/luke, calum/ashton E, 2k
Summary: Michael is curious about the cute boy in his Psych class. For some reason, he's covered in glitter.
The Leader's of the Not Coming Back's (ao3) - dancewithme luke/ashton, michael/calum N/R, 4k
Summary: They're all just trying to get by
This is What Makes Us Who We Are (ao3) - orphan_account michael/calum N/R, 1k
Summary: Calum bites his lip, sharply nodding his head and waiting for the rush of air that will take him out of this situation.
OR- Calum has both super powers and a crazy huge crush on Michael. But he can't seem to be able to kiss the boy without fucking it up. That's where his time-travel comes in handy.
Undressing You With My Mind (ao3) - pitypartyof1 calum/ashton N/R, 2k
Summary: Calum has a bad habit of letting his mind wander. It usually ends in problems for Ashton.
what if i'm weak (and i need you tonight?) (ao3) - kingscrossinseptember michael/calum T, 2k
Summary: But when Calum had become apprentice to the city’s biggest superhero two months ago, a lot of things changed. The main one was their nights. Instead of staying up doing homework and hanging out until they both crashed into their respective beds, Calum would slip out their window to save the day and catch the bad guys, and Michael would lay awake in bed until Calum returned, paralyzed with the fear that some night Calum wouldn’t come back at all.
you can hear it in the silence (ao3) - prophecygrl michael/luke E, 898
Summary: "If I fail out of math, it’s your fault. "
Or
Michael and Luke are telepathic and Michael thinks that means Luke can help him cheat his way through school.

you know what, I was gonna yell my agreement in the tags but I have too much to say so I'm just gonna-
Mando Luke in both cameos doesn't feel fully human, and yes, it's primarily because the CGI is grossly hampering the performance (along with this iteration of him being Young Jake Skywalker™) - it doesn't matter if the BOBF version of him "nailed" his features better onto the less uncanny side of the Uncanny Valley, this illusion still only functions at its best when the face exhibits the bare minimum of expression, and it still can't seamlessly capture and convey all the nuance of real human movement. So we have this bizarre semi-lifeless doll recreation of Mark Hamill instead of letting the perfectly capable actor underneath just do his thing. It chaps my ass to no end that this guy was a glorified meat puppet. I've seen those gifs here on tunglr - not to mention in some of them it looks an awful lot like an alternate/extra/deleted scene was filmed with Graham on what appears like a Tatooine set, make of that what you will - and Graham would have made an adorable Luke.
But I want to stress why I agree so much with this sentiment: I've been a SW fan for 26 yrs in one nearly unbroken hyperfixation, and the only exception I made in there was a brief stint in Superman/DC fandom, because I have a Type™ - soft superpowered farmboys with salt-of-the-earth parents with soul-crushing responsibilities. What else do these characters have in common?
Why do people in-universe love Superman? It's not just because he can juggle airplanes and punch monsters and looks hot - it's because he's kind. When he helps people, he's warm and reassuring and friendly; he goes above and beyond getting them out of danger, he makes sure they feel seen and safe and comforted. His compassion radiates out in his personality.
All the way back in the Mando S2 finale, underneath all the contagious hype from everybody else losing their shit over Luke's appearance, I was lowkey put off by how he was portrayed. The instant he took the hood off, it no longer felt like him at all. Luke Skywalker would not break the 4th wall in arrogant self-awareness of his iconic status to bask in the stares of those he was rescuing, standing there after he walked in because the show was clearly telegraphing this as a HEY AUDIENCE THIS IS WHERE YOU LOSE YOUR SHIT moment. The stage-yness of it was, I'm gonna say the bad word, cringe. And then dead-eyed CGI Luke just tonelessly rattles off a few lines and leaves. It felt like watching a bad animatronic on the side of a Disney ride. Contrast that to his entrance into Leia's cell in ANH.
"But this is post-ROTJ Luke! He's a Jedi Master now and he's all serious!" Luke was already pretty fucking mature in ROTJ, only 5 yrs prior, and did he at any point in that movie feel dead inside to you? Even in his quietest, most restrained moments you could still feel the emotional turmoil or resolve simmering within him. Hell, people who mostly hate ROTJ will still almost universally admit that Mark was carrying the majority of the movie on his shoulders, putting his whole Jedi pussy into it. Luke can be a serious, restrained Jedi and still feel alive.
And yes, even in ROTJ when he's under an incredible amount of stress and angst, Luke bothers to crack the fuck up at space teddy bears and Han getting figuratively and literally roasted. He hugs and smiles at his friends numerous times. He's all grown up, but he's still the silly, lovable Luke we started out with.
IMO, it would've gone such a long way for Luke's initial cameo to have him say something as simple as, "Is everyone all right?" as soon as he walked into the bridge. To have a flash of recognition and wonder and wistfulness cross his face when he sees Grogu for the first time, and a welcoming smile, because yes, this is a fucking baby Yoda and he's also just a little kid who went through something horrific and Luke wants to reassure him. For his smile to turn bittersweet when he watches another father reveal his face to his son before departing. There were so many opportunities for subtle enhancements to his performance to bring this amazing character back to life other than WOO YAS HE FIGHT GOOD, but no, we can't have all the nice things.
Luke doing the seagulls backpack run with Grogu in TBOBF was cute, and even though we all fucking know it was in there purely for nostalgia goggles to get eyeballs on screens it did actually make sense for his character because why the fuck wouldn't Luke want to fondly remember his old teacher, the circle is now complete, it's like poetry it rhymes yada yada. One of the only moments that connected for me was this split second, this one expression they managed to pull on that unholy face, because this was a legitimately sweet look that felt like the real Luke vibing with Grogu:
Tumblr media
No, I'm not saying Luke needs to be a goof all the time, I'm just agreeing with OP that Luke is a very expressive character, even when he's not making overt emotional displays. Deepfakes, de-aging, whatever the fuck they're using, is forcing so much of this normal human performance off the table, and then it's compounded by the sheer jackassery of the script and/or direction, whatever rancid concoction led to the nonsense we got. I'm not exaggerating, it took me less than 10 minutes to come up with better alternatives to what Luke said and did with Grogu without drastically changing the show. He Would Not Fucking Say That, the "canon" edition. But I digress.
Personally, I like the idea of Luke calling Grogu "sprout" because he's little and green and tenacious, and a sprout of anything in the desert is a joy to behold.
okay i guess what pisses me off is that luke wouldn’t act like that in tbobf. and i’m not talking about him giving grogu a choice, i’m talking about how he acts in general. he’d smile, he’d laugh, he’d play, he’d call grogu little names like “bud” or “silly” or “baby”. when grogu did that little jump? luke would’ve put his hand over his mouth and would’ve tried holding back a chuckle. luke would make it fun for grogu. he’d mess around, and let a little loose. yes, he’s a good jedi and he teaches very well but he’s also alone with a literal baby. he’d relax, he’d carry grogu around, he’d play with grogu in catching frogs sometimes, he’d eat the critters grogu offers him off the floor. he’d handfeed grogu food.
what i’m saying is that luke would make it fun. luke knows grogu is obviously talented, but he also knows that grogu is small, he’s barely past being a toddler, and he’s been traumatized. luke would be compassionate. he’d be kind, because that’s who he is. under all the layers of rage and war under his skin, it all boils down to him being truly good and kind. he’d smile and laugh and play because he never got that kind of training, but now he gets to do that for someone else.
but i guess you can’t really show that with cgi, can you.

BREAKING NEWS: TRAGEDY AT THE AVENGERS MANSION
The Bugle is the first to report that an explosion was called in on 5 April 2026 in Midtown, Manhattan at the Avengers Mansion. The explosion appeared to originate on the first floor of the Mansion, but no source has yet been identified. According to first responders onsite, the scene was catastrophic. “This was no normal explosion,” said NYFD Captain Dan Lee. “There were body parts on the floor. Anything that can blow up a superhero is bad news.” Although the press has tried to get into the Mansion for exclusive pictures and content, Mayor Luke Cage has made strict warnings that the crime scene is potentially contaminated. Captain Lee did point out a high level of radiation at the source of the explosion, leaving many to wonder if this attack came from a superpowered source.
Due to our prominence in the field, the Bugle has obtained a list of killed and injured parties. Walking away from the tragedy are Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Earth-199999), the super lawyer Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Earth-199999), Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Earth-616), Clea Strange (Earth-616), the Avenger’s member Valkyrie (Earth-616), Dr. Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange (Earth-616), Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Earth-616), the Scarlet Scarab (Earth-199999), Moon Knight (Earth-199999), S.H.I.E.L.D.’s newly minted Director Daisy Johnson/Quake (Earth-084) and the Vision (Earth-616). Mount Sinai hospital in Midtown admitted a new of heroes with injuries ranging from broken ribs to concussions, including Scott Lang/Ant Man (Earth-199999), Wakandan royalty Shuri/Black Panther (Earth-199999), Mockingbird (Earth-616) and Rosalind Solomon (Earth-616).
Unfortunately, the day was not without tragedies. From Earth-199999, the press has received confirmations of death from Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Kate Bishop/Hawkeye, Spider-man, Sam Wilson/Captain America, Shang-Chi and Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange. From Earth-616, losses include Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Tony Stark/Iron Man.
It is worth noting that a number of mutants were also at the meeting. The nature of the gathering has yet to be disclosed, leaving many to wonder why mutant and Avengers came together in such a high profile meeting. Reported alive at the scene were the Earth-616 mutants Exodus, Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, Hope Summers, Kate Pryde, Logan Howlett/Wolverine and Scott Summers/Cyclops. The mutants were not without their losses, however. The once villainous but now reformed Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, and the X-Men members Illyana Rasputin/Magik and Jean Grey.
ENTER THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION
While a tragedy like this would normally predate a memorial service, the recently announced Phoenix Foundation has released a statement that they would kick off the project with the resurrection of those killed in the Avengers Mansion blast. “This truly is Jean Grey’s baby,” Emma Frost said in an exclusive interview, “but since Jean was unfortunately a victim in the Mansion bombing, I speak on her behalf to state that we are thrilled to use our resurrection protocols to help return these valiant heroes to life. We expect everything to be completed by the 7th of April. The Phoenix Foundation normally functions to save those overlooked by society, but even the wisest of men will you tell that there are times when exceptions must be made. After that, we will resume our normal operations.”
This announcement has come with questions from the public. Where the mutants got the D.N.A. needed for the resurrections has been posed multiple times, but the information has not been disclosed.
The Bugle will continue to report as need be.
— Christine Everheart, Daily Bugle News Senior Reporter

it’s 2022, why the actual hell have i been thinking about a percy jackson AU
the au is cut into two parts; either separate fics that take place in the same amount of time, or alternating povs every chapter. probably the later, that sounds better.
basically, thanks to some demigod dreams, a 9 year old percy jackson starts talking to this ominous pit in his dreams. since he just thinks these are dreams, he has no problems talking to the pit and what do you know! the pit actually seems pretty cool.
meanwhile, kronos has figured out that this is one of his grandchildren, and he needs to get this kid on his side asap if he wants to raze olympus
i know this isn’t technically canon, but i like it so... with the help of some monsters, kronos manages to possess a human body. not a demigod, no bathe in the styx, just a mortal. maybe even smelly gabe...? (no, i don’t think so). So while kronos can interact with the mortal world, if he uses even a speck of his titan powers while in the body, it explodes.
kronos manages to convince kid percy that he’s his grandpa and to somehow go on a trip across country with him by staging a monster attack and making him think he’s putting his mom in danger. kronos is trying to get percy to one of his titan allies so they can raise him to be on kronos’ side, because even not using his powers, the body is wearing out.
percy knows there’s something off about his gramps but is pretty freaked out about the monster attack. and then he’s too excited about learning he has superpowers to care too much.
this part of the fic is name “Percy and Grandpa’s Totally Epic Cross-Country Road Trip” and that might be the name of the fic in general, i just think its funny.
the road trip consists of percy learning demigod things while being told all the good stories about the titans and the bad ones about the gods. meanwhile, kronos is becoming reluctantly fond of his grandson.
There are funny moments in this part of the fic, like kronos learning how to drive, and what money is.
percy manages to convince kronos to go to disneyland califorina and this is the vibe i’m going for. (link nsft)
now for the second part of the fic... it’s luke time, baby.
luke was ten seconds away from having to ask the oracle to go on his basic, repeater, canon quest when the oracle walks out of the attic and into capture the flag to make luke go on a quest.
basically, if luke doesn’t rescue percy, olympus is doomed.
congrats luke! you’ve got the fate of the world on your shoulders.
annabeth stops talking to luke because he doesn’t choose her as a questing partner despite her being nine, that’s totally old enough to go on a quest.
and luke is angsting bc the prophecy didn’t state which child of the big three was going to save olympus and thalia died just two/three years before, and maybe the kid is jason?
his questing partners are selena and beckandorf because it seems funny to juxtaposition their sexual tension with luke’s angst.
luke’s not going to have a good time on this quest. but at least posedion is helping them along.
luke thinks he’s going on a life or death rescue mission while percy is eating candy and learning why zeus sucks.

On the other hand, Luke doesn't have any of that either and he turns out fine. Yoda thought he was too old at 21, but went ahead anyway, because what did he have anymore to lose?
The Jedi aren't wrong exactly, about emotional management being essential and Anakin having elevated risk factors and so on, but they're overly attached to their own current methodologies (historically you could start Jedi training in adulthood) and fixated on the concept that if you just handle 'being a person' the right way, it will turn out well.
And if it doesn't, that's because you didn't apply the method correctly. And if it works out anyway even though you didn't apply the method very well or at all, it's just that you got lucky. Either way, method's still perfect.
There is some definite institutional rot on display here which doesn't make anyone involved bad. But it is a matter of, like--this is a system with so much faith in itself that it can't correct for its own shortcomings or adapt to individual differences very well.
'Trauma' and 'not being raised in Jedi philosophy from a young age' are risk factors for failing at self-regulation and going darkside, in roughly the same ways that 'trauma' and 'being raised by shitheads' puts you at an elevated risk of abusive behavior in just...normal everyday person life, without superpowers.
But a risk is just a risk. A shitty childhood doesn't disqualify you from living in society or guarantee you won't learn healthy emotional management. It means you need more help than other people to learn those skills.
Having a baby in your forties raises the risk of congenital deformities from like 1.5 percent to 3 percent, which is doubling it, but like. People who use that statistic to shame mothers for irresponsible 'geriatric' pregnancies are not being honest or just, you know?
The fact that the Jedi system is so focused around risk reduction via controlling every possible element of a potential jedi's environment and upbringing that they are not equipped to effectively and compassionately manage a newly freed nine year old's needs is very much a flaw in that system.
They should be able to do that! That's doable! It's hard, but it's not hard to do better than this.
And that doesn't change even if we choose to believe that the system training normal candidates into uniformity never failed anyone they started on from the correct age, which neither logic nor any of the many canons supports. There is no one size fits all system of childrearing no matter how early you start.
(That's even more true when you're a multispecies organization! Anakin's easy mode, Humans are dead common so his basic brain chemistry and so forth is broadly predictable. What if Qui-Gon had brought them a sapient emu or some shit.)
They don't have to be wrong to be fucking this up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know why the Jedi are right in this scene? Because it's literally how the Force works, this moment is undivorceable from the very basic worldbuilding fact that: The Force works based on their emotions. That is part of everything to do with the Force in the movies, that is the very first layer of the foundation of how it works! If they use the Force while they're afraid, that is straight up a path to the dark side, that's not just what the Jedi say, it's how Star Wars' worldbuilding functions. “Once you become afraid that somebody’s going to take it away from you or you’re gonna lose it, then you start to become angry, especially if you’re losing it, and that anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering. Mostly on the part of the person who’s selfish, because you spend all your time being afraid of losing everything you’ve got instead of actually living. [....] So that is ultimately the core of the whole dark side/light side of the Force.” –George Lucas Fear is the path to the dark side. It doesn't matter if the fear is justified or not, it's not necessarily a moral or value judgement, but it just is how the Force works. So, the scene in The Phantom Menace goes like this: Yoda:  "Afraid are you?" Anakin:  "No, sir." Yoda:  "See through you we can." Mace:  "Be mindful of your feelings." Ki-Adi:  "Your thoughts dwell on your mother." Anakin:  "I miss her." Yoda:  "Afraid to lose her, I think, mmm?" Anakin:  "What has that got to do with anything?" Yoda:  "Everything. Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you." The Jedi are repeating Lucas' explanation almost word for word in this scene, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, this isn't what the Jedi decided was how things work, it's how the Force works as decided by the guy who created the Force, they're absolutely, 100% correct about it. And that's why it's important that Anakin isn't acknowledging his fear here, that it's not that he's afraid that's the problem or what the Jedi are saying is the problem--the Jedi express emotion all across the movies! that whole "there is no emotion" thing is NOWHERE in the movies or TCW! that is something Lucas himself never put in ANY of his canon!--but that he won't even be mindful of his feelings. Being mindful isn't immediately purging them, it's acknowledging that they're there, working through them, eventually letting them go. "But it's normal for a nine year old to miss his mother! How can they say he's bad just for--" They're not saying Anakin is bad. Nobody is saying Anakin is a horrible person for missing his mother! Nobody is even saying that Anakin is a horrible person for not being mindful of his feelings! Nobody is saying that it's Anakin's fault that he doesn't have the tools for better emotional regulation! But they are saying that he's not a good fit for the Jedi. And they're right! He's not a good fit for the Jedi! Not one single Council member even so much as implies that this is any kind of judgement of Anakin as a person or that he's bad for it! They're saying he doesn't have the rock solid foundation that a Jedi needs because that's how the Force works--and they're right. Every commentary Lucas ever makes about Anakin's fall is that he didn't want to regulate his feelings, he didn't want to let go of things.
The Jedi never once say or imply that that would make Anakin a bad person or that he's a failure because he didn't magically have things he wasn't taught, but they're saying that it would make him a bad fit for being a Jedi and they can already feel--given that they're psychic space wizards who can sense others' feelings--that he doesn't really want to change. ("He's nine! You can't judge a character at that--" Girl, it's a fairy tale meant to illustrate Lucas' personal philosophies about emotional regulation via fairy tale logic, not hyperrealistic examinations of characters, come on now.)
Which doesn't make Anakin a bad person or that he's in the wrong for being scared and not having the tools to deal with it. The Jedi can say "He's not a good fit for what we need to be because of the way the Force works." and not have it be any kind of condemnation of him as a person. His later actions, once he has the training and support to know better, sure. But nobody's saying the nine year old is at fault. They're saying the nine year old doesn't have the foundation he would need, which it doesn't matter that it's not his fault, it's still quite literally how the Force works, that you need that foundation.

Samsteve prompt. Established Sam/Steve and Sam is splashed with a love potion so for the next 24 hours, everyone is in love with him. Would love to see this from Steve's POV
((Wow this ask has been sitting in my inbox for over a month. I finally got around to write! I apologize for being so late, anon. I hope this fic finds its way to you!))
***
Steve blamed Thor for Sam’s current predicament. He’s the one who brought the love potion to the party after his latest visit to some planet with the Guardians and accidentally splashed it all over Sam. Now Sam smelled of citrus and lavender (It was a delightful smell), and oh yeah, everyone around them was in love with him.
“What do you mean everyone is going to be in love with me for the next 24 hours?!” Sam screeched and grabbed Thor by the collar of his suit jacket when he told them what the effects of the love potion were.
“Sam, let him go,” Steve tried to pull Sam away from the God of Thunder. “He has already done the damage.”
Thor moved his hands to Sam’s waist and pulled him closer. “Son of Wil, you are more than welcome to touch me however you like,” he flirted.
Sam visibly cringed and immediately let go of him. “Get away from me!" He removed Thor’s hands from his waist and moved away from him.
“Don’t you dare touch him again,” Steve warned Thor and glared at him.
“I apologize, Son of Wil and Steve. But that’s the effect of the love potion," he told them. "But if you’d let me, Son of Wil, you can come with me and I will show you planets you cannot even imagine.”
“No, thank you, I am fine with the planet I am already on.” With that, he took Steve’s arm and dragged him away from Thor and others around him that were leering at Sam like he was the buffet.
“What are we going to do now?” Sam asked, worried.
Steve stopped and turned to cup Sam’s face. “We’ve been through worse, baby, we’ll get through this too. It’s just for the next 24 hours, anyway.”
Sam kissed Steve’s palm and smiled at him. “So long as I have you with me--”
“Always,” Steve assured him.
“Hot damn, Sam.” It was Tony. He looked at Sam from top to bottom from his position on the couch. “You look great in that suit.” Before either of them could say anything, Tony pulled Sam on top of himself, making Sam ungracefully land on his legs.
“Tony!” Sam chastised and tried to get up, but Tony held him in place.
“Tony, he’s my boyfriend,” Steve reminded his friend.
“Oh, learn to share, Rogers,” Tony said, licking his lips and didn’t take his eyes off Sam.
“You’re a married man.” Sam pulled back when Tony tried kissing him
“I don’t mind,” Pepper said, coming up behind Tony. “There is something different about you today, Sam. Even I think I’m in love with you.” She reached out to touch his cheek, but Sam slapped her hand away.
Sam pushed Tony’s hands away and hauled himself off the man. “What the hell was that?” He asked as he and Steve walked away from the couple. “Both of them wanted me.”
“Well, I don’t really blame them,” Steve commented, gaining a punch to the arm from Sam.
Someone pulled Sam away from Steve as they tried to get away and Steve turned around to find Sam plastered against the wall with Jessica Jones looming over him and Luke Cage right next to her.
“Hey, Sam,” Steve could hear her say. “Damn, you look so good tonight. I could just eat you up.” She leered at him. “I would leave Luke’s ass for you.”
“Oh, don’t flatter yourself, Jess,” said Luke, “I will leave your ass for Wilson any day too.”
“Guys, come on, not you two, too! We work together!” Sam said, looking between the two of them. “Besides, I’m with Steve.”
“The more the merrier.” Jessica winked at him. “As long as we get to have you.”
“Guys, leave him alone!” Steve stepped forward and went toe to toe with them. Neither of the superpowered heroes looked intimidated.
Steve felt a hand on his arm.. “Come on, let’s just get out of here,” Sam said in Steve’s ear.
They started heading towards the door when Bucky walked in. “Hey, guys,” he said.
“Hey Buck,” Sam replied, and tightened his grip on Steve’s hand while Steve glared at his best friend, ready for him to make some sort of move on Sam, but he didn’t.
“You guys leaving already?” Bucky asked, disappointed.
“Yeah, we have a problem,” Steve replied, and Bucky took his eyes off Sam to look at him. “Thor splashed some kinda love potion on Sam and now everyone is in love with him.”
“Seriously?” Bucky laughed.
“Anyway,” Sam said awkwardly. “We gotta go. See you later, Buck.”
“See you guys,” said Bucky and walked past them.
“He seemed normal,” Sam commented when Bucky was out of earshot.
“Maybe the effects of the potion are wearing off.” Maybe Steve should have kept his mouth shut because the second they were outside, they were surrounded by a small group of people, who all were confessing their love for Sam like they were a bunch of zombies.
“Shit, run!” Steve yelled, and they ran back inside Tony’s mansion.
More people at the party started coming after them. They found the nearest room and locked themselves inside. Both of them slid down the door and let out a sigh of relief.
“What the hell? They’re like zombies,” Sam sounded horrified. “Why is this happening to me?” He asked, leaning his head against Steve’s shoulder.
Steve felt bad for his boyfriend. He also wanted to murder Thor for being so careless. “I’m sorry, baby,” he said, kissing the top of Sam’s head.
“It should feel good to be loved, but I am scared.” Sam looked up at him and the vulnerable look on his face broke Steve’s heart even more.
“We just have to brave out the next 20 hours and then you should be good,” Steve reminded him.
“What are we supposed to do for the next 20 hours? Hide in here?” The room was a suite, so at least they wouldn’t have to go out to the bathroom.
“They’ll leave in a couple hours and then it will just be Tony and Pepper and we can deal with them.”
Sam buried his face in Steve’s shoulder and let out another sigh. They stayed quiet for a few minutes.
“Wait, a second!” Sam drew away from Steve. “Why aren’t you affected? You’re absolutely normal.”
Steve shrugged. “I don’t know… maybe because I am already in love with you?” He suggested.
Sam’s eyes widened slightly. “Really?” He asked
“Yes, I love you so, so much.” They have been together for 3 months and this was the first time he admitted his feelings out loud.
“I love you too,” Sam replied. He cupped Steve’s cheeks and kissed him.

Why Star Wars is just Dune with better marketing:
I’ve posted this before, but with the new movie being out I’m just gonna post it again. I’ll put it under the break, because spoilers.
1. A prophesied messianic figure comes out of a desert world. Paul Atreides wasn’t born on Arrakis, but he came of age there and spent his entire adult life there, I think. Anakin came from Tattooine.
2. Messianic figure only really got handed the job because someone decided “Yeah, that messiah’s gonna be you. No pressure.” Paul wasn’t supposed to fill any prophecies. There were a couple of separate ones, though. One was this weird eugenics program to breed a superpsychic, and the other was a fake planted by the Bene Gesserit to be exploited in case of emergency. Paul and his mother exploited it, except he wound up actually fulfilling both of them... kind of, anyway. Anakin got found by Qui-Gon, and everyone just sort of assumed he would destroy the Sith.
3. He’s suddenly way more powerful than anyone thought was possible, and rewrites the entire socio-political-religious structure of the known universe. Marries royalty. Paul actually does have all of the powers that both prophecies said he would, and those powers kind of build off of each other... oh, and he’s got mad tactical planning skills and combat skills that combine with both gifts. Interplanetary disaster is only averted by the Emperor stepping down and Paul marrying, basically, two princesses. Anakin destroyed the Jedi order, married a queen (sort of), and helped jump-start the Galactic Empire. Later, while old, kept alive by life support, and injured, Anakin defeats a Sith that mopped the floor with Yoda, the supposed strongest Jedi Master in the order.
4. Everything was going according to plan until a woman became a love object, because no plan for control will last five minutes once romance is involved, apparently. This happens a few times, through both series. Paul is born because his mother actually fell in love with the dude she was assigned to breed with, so she chooses to have a son instead of a daughter as her firstborn. Chaos ensues. Paul’s legal wife feels threatened by the woman he actually loves, poisons her. Chaos ensues. Leto II’s regime is ended when he falls in love with Hwi Noree (To be fair, he saw that coming.). Chaos ensues. Anakin is a decent Jedi until he sees Padme again. Chaos ensues. Luke is a boring farmer until he sees Leia’s hologram. Chaos ensues and shit gets really creepy in retrospect. Kylo Ren is a mediocre Sith until he meets Rey. Chaos ensues.
5. Messianic figure ruins the emperor’s life. Paul exiles his emperor to a far-off planet and marries his daughter to keep him from fighting back. Anakin drops his emperor down a reactor shaft.
6. Messianic figure sucks at messiah stuff. Triggers assorted disasters through their own incompetence. Their descendants are left to clean up the mess. Paul gets sucked up in his own mythos, ends up blinded and exiled to wander the desert until his death while his son has to shapeshift into a sandworm to save Humanity from his father's attempt to save Humanity, and his daughter’s descendants... I’m not really sure what they do, but they show up in future books along with Paul’s constantly reincarnated buddy. After Leto II died I got really confused and gave up. XD Anakin destroys the order that raised him as a “Chosen One,” then his son and later his grandson both die trying to undo that mess.
7. Messianic figure fathers fraternal twin babies with superpowers. Only the male one uses the powers in any way that really advances the long-term plot, while the female offspring carries on the genetic line. Paul had Leto II and Ghanima, both psychics that can channel anyone in their bloodline of the same sex and see the future, but Leto II became the next emperor while Ghanima was tasked with breeding future Atreides babies. Anakin had Luke and Leia, both powerful Force-users, but Luke became a Jedi while Leia left to be a mommy. Granted, she was also a military genius and a politician, but she was both of those before she knew she had the Force.
8. BOY, did they ever misunderstand that prophecy! Technically, Paul is the word-I-can’t-spell that the Bene Gesserit saw coming. Except he’s completely out of their control, not interested in helping them at all, and just sort of does his own thing that changes several thousand years of Human destiny. Technically, he is also the prophesied Mahdi of the Fremen (I’m not even getting into the weird pseudo-Islamic stuff that Herbert put into that story. Dune is not without problems.), except he basically treats them like ignorant fanatics, wipes out their culture, and uses them as his armies of fear. They turn on him something fierce later. Anakin, if you think about it, did balance out the Force. It’s just that with thousands of Jedi on the Light Side, and only two (officially, anyway) Sith on the Dark Side, that balance had been tipped heavily for a very, very long time. After Order 66, there were two onscreen Jedi (Obi-Wan and Yoda) and two onscreen Sith (Vader and Palpatine).

Devon would never forget the first poem Luke wrote for her.
He was a blushing mess as he handed her the folded piece of paper, insisting she read it later because he didn’t want to see her reaction. He had a lip ring then, blond hair spiked up and a wardrobe full of band t-shirts and black skinny jeans. He certainly didn’t look like how anyone would imagine a poet, but one look at his work would tell anyone that he had the mind for the craft.
Luke’s way with words was unmatched. Devon always called it a superpower; the way he was able to capture readers with words strung together so beautifully and paint a picture in the brain. He made people feel something. He had a gift, no doubt.
All of his poems were breathtaking, and he wrote many for her. The first would always be her favorite.
It was called The Orchids. The poem compared a woman to a field of orchids, delicate and lush. It was simple but sweet. Devon vividly remembered the rush of giddiness she felt as she read it, knowing it was written just for her. She remembered calling Luke after reading it over and over again, gushing about how much she loved it. He explained to her later that he chose orchids because the color of the shirt she was wearing the day they met reminded him of them.
They were only freshmen in college then. First time away from home, getting their first taste of real independence. Of adulthood. They met in a seminar class that every first year student had to take. One that everyone else hated but Luke and Devon loved, just because they got to see each other. A couple of coffee dates lead to The Orchids, which lead to a loving relationship and many, many more poems.
College was just about to come to an end now. Graduation was coming up fast, and that brought the simultaneously exciting and dreadful question: what next?
The future was something that used to delight Luke and Devon. Countless nights, they talked about marriage, a house, a dog, children. Luke would be a renowned poet, Devon a respected social worker. They had it all planned out. Even if their white picket fence dreams fell through, they would be happy so long as they had each other.
With graduation creeping closer and closer, Devon wasn’t so sure about their plans.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want it anymore. She still loved Luke with all of her heart. She wanted everything they had talked about, a future with him. Some deeper thinking into her career led her heart elsewhere.
It came out at dinner one evening, sat at the table of Devon and Luke’s shared apartment that they had moved into junior year.
“I’ve been thinking about going to grad school,” she blurted out. She twisted her spaghetti on her fork to distract herself. His face lit up, but Devon didn’t quite share his excitement. She knew this was something she wanted, but she was about to make a huge sacrifice that she had been trying to convince herself that she was ready for.
“Yeah? That’s great, Dev!” Luke cheered. “Here?”
The proud smile on his face quickly dropped when he saw the look of dread on hers. Graduate school was certainly a good thing, but if she wasn’t thrilled, Luke knew there must be a catch.
“Not here?” Devon shook her head. “Then where?”
The name of the school that she mumbled under her breath made Luke’s heart sink. It was far away. Very far.
“Oh.”
Luke wanted to kick himself for being disappointed. It was selfish, so selfish. He should have been proud that Devon wanted to further her education, and he was. He couldn’t fathom trying to take that away from her, but the thought of his girl being so far away was gut wrenching.
He wiped the frown off his face as quickly as it came. He reminded himself that he needed to be supportive, even if it hurt.
“That’s awesome, baby. I’m really proud of you.”
Devon knew he wasn’t lying when he said he was proud of her, but she could tell he wasn’t as excited as he was trying to seem.
“You don’t have to act happy about this, Lu,” she murmured, still pushing her pasta around. “I know what you’re thinking.”
He sighed and dropped his fork on his plate. Of course she saw through him. She always did. After four years of being together, Devon knew Luke better than anyone.
“I really am proud of you for doing this, honey. Don’t think that I’m not. It’s just…” he trailed off, unable to think of a way to put what he wanted to say without sounding selfish. “It’s so far away.”
Devon swallowed the lump in her throat. She was headstrong, and she knew that she needed to put her career and her own desires first. That didn’t mean it hurt any less to move so far away from the love of her life.
“I know, bubs,” she whispered. “But this is something I really want for myself. For my future.”
“Oh, honey, I know,” Luke sighed, not wanting her to feel bad. “I want you to do this. But the distance...I know it’s selfish of me-”
“It’s not selfish, Luke,” she interrupted, shaking her head softly. “It’s not easy for me either. But this school has the best graduate program for social work. Besides, I haven’t finished my application yet and I’m applying to some other places too. I might not even get in.”
Perhaps the most selfish thing of all was that a tiny part of him hoped she wouldn’t get in. It would break her heart if she didn’t, but maybe she wouldn’t be so far. Luke hated himself for the thought even crossing his mind for a split second.
Devon could see how this was affecting him. She understood; she knew he was planning on proposing shortly after graduation, though they were in no hurry to actually get married until they both had secure jobs. Moving hundreds of miles away for two years undoubtedly threw a wrench in the plans.
She had gone back and forth for a while as she searched for grad schools. As much as she wanted to stay close, her future career was something that she valued greatly. Devon was a first generation college student, and she wanted nothing more than to make her family proud. However, Luke was important too. The distance wouldn’t be easy, but she tried to be optimistic. She could only hope that he would want to try too.
“Don’t think like that, Dev,” Luke mumbled. He let out a deep sigh, running a hand through his hair. His desire for Devon to succeed and his desire to keep her close were battling each other, and it only frustrated him.
He thought about his words for a few moments, but couldn’t find the right thing to say.
“We’ll talk about it later, okay?”
Devon gave a silent nod. She needed to let him feel this out, and honestly, she needed to do the same. Thinking about it was one thing, but actually telling Luke was another. She had been stressing over it for a while, and now that it was finally out, her and Luke had to actually deal with it together.
The couple finished their dinner in silence, the only sounds to be heard being the slight scraping of forks against plates and the occasional sighs.
Devon couldn’t help but feel guilty. Over the years, she had conditioned herself to put her own aspirations first. She had sacrificed a lot for others in her lifetime, but many people had made sacrifices for her as well. She felt she had found a balance between taking care of herself and taking care of the people around her. She knew that moving away for a while for her own benefit would have an effect on her relationship, but she didn’t feel as if she had to choose one or the other. If Luke was willing to try to make things work, then so was she.
Luke took his last bite of spaghetti and stood up from the table. He silently made his way to the sink to wash his plate before turning back to Devon.
“I’m going to write for a bit, okay?” He mumbled, slowly making his way towards the spare bedroom that doubled as his workspace. No doubt a poem was going to come out of everything he was feeling at the moment. Devon nodded and her brown eyes watched as Luke turned on his heel to walk away.
“Luke?” She called out before he got too far. He turned around with a hum of acknowledgement. “I love you.”
Despite the anxiety and dread he was feeling, he smiled.
He walked back over to where Devon still sat at the table. With her face cradled lovingly in his hands, he bent down to press a soft yet meaningful kiss to her lips. The kiss said that even if things were uncertain, this wasn’t over.
“I love you too.”
Devon’s breath caught in her throat when an email from her top choice grad school came through.
She had poured over her personal statement and fretted over her interview. No matter how much everyone assured her, she couldn’t help the anxiety that ate her away.
With a deep breath, she opened the email.
Accepted with a scholarship.
“Luke! Bubs, I got in! I got in!”
She ran into the spare bedroom where Luke was hunched over one of his many poetry notebooks. His head whipped up at his girlfriend’s yells, his brain taking a moment to process her words after being in the writing zone.
For a moment, neither of them were thinking about the distance. All that mattered was Devon’s amazing achievement.
Luke stood up to meet her. Devon practically tackled him in a hug and he easily held her close.
“Congratulations, honey,” he mumbled into her hair. “Fuck, I’m so proud of you.”
He held her for a few minutes, neither of them able to wipe the smiles off their faces. This meant a lot to Devon, and Luke knew it. He knew from the moment he met her that she was going to do great things in life. She was motivated, intelligent, passionate. Anyone could see it. It was one of the many things he loved about her.
Luke pulled away in favor of cupping her cheeks in his hands. Devon flushed under his adoring gaze, eyes falling downwards.
“You’re incredible, Devon Murphy.”
She kissed him as a form of thanks, melting into each other’s touch. Their eyes met when they pulled away, bright blue and warm brown. Devon wasn’t the wordsmith that Luke was, but she didn’t have to be. Her eyes and her actions told him and everyone else everything that they needed to know. Devon was in love with him, and Luke, her.
Even with Luke’s way with words, Devon could read his eyes too. They were just as expressive as his poetry. As they gazed at each other, she could see the flash of sorrow as his mind travelled elsewhere. She didn’t need to ask to know what he was thinking about.
“Luke…” she whispered with a softened gaze. The guilt was returning, although she knew she had nothing to feel guilty about. She had always struggled with her determination to put herself first. It wasn’t Luke’s fault either, however; his feelings about her leaving were completely valid.
“No. None of that right now,” he stated, shaking his head. “This is a huge accomplishment, Dev. We’re not going to be sad tonight.”
A grin tugged at the corner of Devon’s lips as Luke pulled away, grabbing his phone from the desk and sticking it in his pocket. He placed a hand on the small of her back and led her to the door of the bedroom.
“I think you deserve a celebratory dinner, honey, yeah?” He offered, handing trailing to the side to hold her waist. She chuckled and leaned into him.
“You could throw in a frozen pizza and I’d be happy, bubs.”
“Hell no,” he scoffed as if it was the most ridiculous suggestion in the world. “You just got into grad school! I’m taking you out for dinner. If you want pizza, we can get pizza, but not a frozen one.”
Devon couldn’t help but throw her arms around him again, burying her face into his chest. He tilted his head down to press a kiss to the top of her head. She knew this wasn’t easy, and she was beyond grateful that he was being supportive.
“Thank you, bubs. I love you.”
“I love you too, honey. So are we getting pizza, or do you want to go somewhere else? It’s up to you.”
“Pizza sounds good. Can we go to the place with the good garlic knots?”
Luke laughed as he slipped on his shoes.
“Of course we can.”
Devon slipped on her own shoes and grabbed her denim jacket from the hook by the door before the couple made their way downstairs. Luke’s beat up Prius came into view as they stepped into the parking lot. Devon had named the car Bertha; she was old and a little rusty, but she got the job done.
Luke drove to the small pizzeria not far from their apartment complex. Once inside, they were seated quickly and ordered garlic knots and a pizza to share.
“We haven’t talked much about your writing lately,” Devon said once the waitress walked away. “What have you been working on?”
Luke shrugged and sipped his water.
“Not much. I haven’t really gotten anything good out.”
Truthfully, he had written a lot of poems about Devon leaving. He wasn’t going to tell her that at their celebratory dinner, though.
“In a slump?” She queried sincerely.
“Yeah, a bit.”
“Maybe next weekend we can go out, go to the park. You always get inspired there.”
Luke grinned and reached across the table for her hand.
“I’d love that, Dev.”
The rest of dinner flew by, conversation getting lost in buttery garlic knots and savory pizza. Luke offered dessert, but Devon was too full to even think about it. A sly joke about having her for dessert at home had the giggling couple paying the check and driving home at record speed where Luke certainly made good on his promise.
Devon and Luke laid in bed that night where whispered I love you’s and gentle kisses put them to sleep. Not a negative thought in either of their minds. They were content, but the future still loomed menacingly ahead.
The apartment was once a place of solace. It was a place where Luke and Devon could get away from the stress of college life and simply be together. It was safe and comforting. A place they knew they were always welcome.
As time went on, the apartment slowly shifted from a place of joy to a place of dread.
Graduation day was coming up, and both Devon and Luke knew what that meant.
They busied themselves with assignments and exams, Devon simultaneously preparing herself for grad school. She didn’t say much about it to Luke; whenever it came up, the tension between them only got stronger. It led to them bickering about other things to avoid the conversation.
Before they knew it, graduation had come and passed. Devon and Luke officially had their bachelor’s degrees, Luke in creative writing and Devon in social work. The days leading up to it were a good distraction, celebrations with friends and family taking their minds off the move. But it was over. Devon needed to get to her new city soon to set up her new apartment and get her bearings before school started. It was time to face the music.
“Luke?” Devon mumbled as he came out of the spare bedroom. She had been waiting for him to finish so they could talk.
He sighed and sat down next to her on the couch, knowing exactly what this was about. They both had been dreading the conversation, but he knew just as well as her that they needed to discuss it before it was too late.
“Are you ready for this?” She whispered, glancing at him with sad eyes. He didn’t return her gaze.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to be away from you for this long, honey.”
Luke could feel his guard coming down. He wanted this for Devon, but he was struggling to keep his want for her to stay close suppressed.
“I don’t want you to think I’m not considering you in this,” she began, reaching for his hand in his lap. “Leaving won’t be easy for me either.”
“I know.”
He was too scared to say much else.
The couple was silent for a moment. They racked their brains for something to say that would make the situation easier on either of them.
“Maybe you could come with.”
Devon regretted it as soon as it came out of her mouth.
Luke huffed and sent her a look.
“You know I can’t do that.”
She did know. If he could do that, he would have jumped on the opportunity immediately. Luke couldn’t afford to move. He was working on fulfilling his lifelong dream of releasing a poetry book. He was getting so close. Publishers were starting to take interest in him, and he nearly had enough money saved to cover the costs. It was difficult to save money when his part time job at a local bookstore didn’t pay much in the first place and he still needed to pay for school as well as his share of the rent and groceries, among other necessary things. Devon was a little luckier. Neither of their families had much to contribute, and she needed to pay for the same things as him, but her part time job paid better than his and she had money saved from when she managed to land a paid internship first semester. It was covering the costs of her move and grad school.
“I know. I’m sorry.”
She watched him for another moment, trying to fight back the tears that were welling in her eyes.
“Please say something, Luke,” she whimpered. All she wanted was for him to affirm what she so desperately wanted; for them to be okay.
He finally looked at her, both sets of eyes red rimmed. Devon squeezed his hand.
“Do you really have to go, Dev?”
The break in his voice sent the first tear gliding down Devon’s cheek.
“You know how much this means to me, Lu. I really think we can make this work.”
“Can we? Can we really?” Luke’s tone turned frustrated. Devon’s mouth dropped open slightly. Did he not believe they could last?
“What are you saying?” She whispered, voice shaking.
He sighed and roughly stood up, dropping Devon’s hand in the process.
“We’ll never talk. We’ll both be so busy. You’ll have school, I’ll be working. And you know neither of us have the money to be visiting each other often. There will hardly be anything,” he rambled, pacing around the living room. Maybe his selfish side was coming out, but he felt he was just being realistic.
Luke always aimed for realism, particularly in his poetry. He wrote largely about real life experiences and channeled his emotions into beautiful, flowing rhymes. His best work came from personal connection.
Sometimes, he couldn’t help but write about what he wished he had.
His idealistic poems were never about Devon; his relationship with her was practically perfect. But this was something that no idealistic poem could fix. No words could change what was happening to them.
“I’ll make time for you, Luke. Won’t you do the same?” She questioned, growing frustrated as well. She had wanted him to share her optimism, but clearly he didn’t. A part of her knew he was right, but she wasn’t going to back down.
“Of course I’ll make time. But will it be enough? No matter how much we try, will it be enough to keep what we have going? Look at what it’s doing to us now! You haven’t even left yet and we can barely keep it together.”
“Do you really have that little faith in us, Luke?” Her voice was calm, despite how she felt on the inside. She narrowed her eyes at him. “No one said it would be easy. But we’ve been together for four years. I believe in us.”
Luke took another breath, trying his best to keep his emotions and tears at bay.
“I want to believe in us, Devon. I really do.” He turned to look at her. Her cheeks were stained with tears, and it only made his heart ache more. “I still want a future with you. I want the house and the dog and the kids we’ve always talked about. But I have a bad feeling. We’ve never been away from each other for more than a few weeks. I just...the distance is going to break us.”
Luke’s own words cut him like a knife. As much as he wanted to believe they could last, his own insecurities caused him doubt. He wasn’t sure if he truly believed that or if he just wanted to save himself the heartbreak of being away from Devon for so long.
Devon let his words sink in. Even if it did break them before she finished her degree, she was willing to try until they couldn’t anymore. Maybe he was right. Maybe the distance would break them eventually. But it hurt her that he didn’t have any faith at all. Still, she understood where he was coming from.
There was no winner in this situation.
She thought for a moment, and finally came to the conclusion that they were both thinking about.
“Fine.” She slowly stood up from the couch and looked him in the eye. They were both shattered. Hearts were breaking into a million pieces simultaneously. Devon put on the most stoic face she could muster with tears still leaking from her eyes. “We obviously want different things right now. I have school, you have your book, and clearly we can’t handle both at the same time. Maybe there shouldn’t be an us.”
Although he had essentially been the one to suggest it, her words felt like a punch in the gut.
This wasn’t what either of them wanted. This wasn’t supposed to happen. But the truth was becoming more and more apparent. They couldn’t do this. Not now.
However, Luke mimicked Devon’s actions and put on a blank face.
“Maybe there shouldn’t.”
They stared at each other for another few moments. Reality was setting in. This was the end of Luke and Devon. All of the coffee dates, the love poems, living off Ramen and questionable dining hall food together, walks in the park, kisses, I love you’s, the late night talks of the future, everything gone down the drain.
Devon shut herself in the bedroom before Luke could see her break.
The next month before Devon moved was painful. Her and Luke hardly said a word to each other. They ate their meals separately, not bothering to cook together like they used to or order food to share. They both spent time with friends before everyone went off to their new adult lives. When they weren’t out, Devon locked herself in the bedroom while Luke did the same in the spare. They hadn’t slept in the same bed since before their fight.
Devon spent a lot of free time packing. She went through all of her belongings, creating piles of things to keep, things to donate, and things to throw away.
She soon came across something that made all of her emotions about the breakup resurface.
It was the shoebox that she kept all of the poems Luke had written for her in. She kept every single one.
With a quivering lip, she opened the box and gazed at its contents. Piles of folded papers were neatly tucked inside, his declarations of love all written out in one place. They were her most prized possessions. She went back and reread them often, and the feeling of having someone love her like Luke did was the best feeling in the world.
Devon choked out a sob, burying her face into her hands in hopes that he wouldn’t hear her through the thin walls. The fact that he was right next door hurt her even more. The caring, gentle boy that made her swoon with his charming smile and romantic poetry. He made her fall in love with him all over again every day. He was everything, and she lost him.
She slowly read through each poem. Instead of joy and adoration, all she felt was anguish and heartache. She never thought she would feel this way about Luke.
When she got to the bottom, she pulled out the last poem, and her heart completely broke in her chest.
The Orchids.
Devon couldn’t keep her sobs at bay. She clutched the paper to her chest, every bit of pain coming out in tears.
Luke could hear her through the wall.
His heart told him to run in and comfort her. His brain told him it would only make things worse for both of them.
He plugged his ears, trying to block out the dreadful sound. He was in just as much pain as her, but the sound of the love of his life’s sorrow only made his own worse.
Glancing down at the open notebook in front of him, he reread the poem he was writing, and soon he found himself joining Devon in tears.
It was called Wilted. Their relationship that had once been a beautiful flower, an orchid, lost its sunlight and its water, and now it had wilted. Dead, grey, dried up.
Luke dropped his pen and folded his arms on the desk, burying his head into them. He cried.
The broken couple, only separated by a thin wall, might as well have already been miles apart. They cried together, but there was no sense of unity between them. Their pain was past what any poem could portray.

They're Birds, They're Planes, NO THEY'RE GHOSTS: Chapter 1/?
A/N: Honestly this is a little different from what I usually write lol and I promise it will be less angsty than what I usually do (there will be angst I'm not a totally changed person lmao). But this is 100% inspired by @beaniesflannelandfannypacks question about "if the JATP characters had superpowers, what powers would they have and why?" So now I am taking this and running with it so have fun :)
Time: I mean for my sake let's say that the pandemic is either over and doesn't exist and they all exist in 2021 as teens lmao.
Place: The deserted field behind Los Feliz High School
But wait... why are we here?????
~✨flashback sounds✨~
Bobby POV
"Come on Luke, stop being a dumbass and dig the hole here. I promised Reg that I would win him that gift card to that pizza place that he likes so much," Bobby whined, grabbing Luke's beanie off his head before putting it on his own.
"Roberto Robin Robert stops whining or I will go straight to Carrie and make sure she will win," Luke huffed trying to fix his hair, laughing at Bobby's scandalized face.
"I don't believe you, you wouldn't do that! Not with Reggie's happiness on the line," Bobby said grumbling, grabbing the shovel that was laying on the ground next to the shorter boy and started to dig.
Honestly, it was Bobby's idea to enter into the idea school's annual scavenger hunt. I mean he had to especially after Reggie broke down crying during rehearsal last week after a rough night at home. Obviously, after that, Bobby made the other two boys promise that they will do anything to win.
Sure, it was a dumb and obvious way to get the students to get more "involve" with the community (aka do some community service). But the first team to complete the scavenger hunt gets $100 worth of Los Feliz High Merch and $100 certificate Slice Slice Baby, a ridiculous all-you-can-eat pizza buffet with a karaoke bar. It's slightly rundown and cheesy (heh pizza pun) but it's a comfortable hangout spot for the teens of the city.
Luke fell to the ground in a fit of giggles, clutching his stomach. Bobby gritted his teeth, digging the hole faster as Luke started to gasp for air. Bobby adjusted the beanie, slid on his sunglasses, and started to pout at Luke.
In a normal sibling fashion, Carrie has been trying her hardest to find a gift certificate before Bobby. So the guys made a plan. Reggie and Alex would map out the allotted areas of the scavenger hunt, stalk the school's social media, and work out the clues, leaving Bobby and Luke to check out the locations and dig.
Luke sighed rolling onto his stomach genuinely smiling at the boy, "Y'know Bobby, Reggie is lucky to have someone so y'know... dedicated to making him this happy. I mean you gotta know that he is like so much happier around you and maybe if you get your head out of your ass maybe you can ask-"
Bobby gripped the shovel harder slamming it into the ground interrupting Luke, "I know, I know I'm a big simp for him and I should get my shit together. But it's hard like we are in a band together."
"That we are Bobbers and a successful one too," Luke laughed, cutting him off, smiling to himself.
"Our only gigs are at our friends' birthday parties, Tropic Like it's Hot, and Miriam's book club," Bobby muttered realizing he was knee-deep into the hole without finding the bottle with the final clue inside.
"But Viv and El love our music and Reese says our songs are his favorite," Luke says with a smirk throwing dirt at Bobby.
"HE IS SIX YEARS OLD, HIS SECOND FAVORITE SONG IS MOST DEFINETLY ON A KIDZ BOP CD. Plus, Reggie is not into guys. He is like the straightest member of the band," Bobby sighed, wiping the dirt off of his pants.
Luke scoffs while starting to build a flower crown with the dandelions around him, "Bobby literally that's like saying that'll I will quit the band and go to Harvard and become a lawyer or some shit that parents want me to be," Bobby furrowed his brows at the random statement.
Honestly, he should be used to some of the ridiculous stuff spews from Luke's mouth. But nevertheless, he makes a mental note to sit down and talk out the whole having the pressure of becoming a lawyer thing with Luke later. Y'know, when he is not covered in dirt. Bobby crinkles his nose before turning back around to shovel more dirt out of the hole and into a meticulous pile.
"I mean that has nothing to do with what I am conflicted about. I should've gone to Alex because at least he would help me shovel and not sit on his lazy ass stalking some poor music producer's Instagram," Bobby joked, knowing the shorter boy realizes how much he enjoys the time they spend together.
"Yeah yeah yeah I am a piece of shit but I'm your piece of shit so as your piece of shit I am telling you but your big boy pants on and ask Reggie out because he definitely likes-"
"What the hell?" Bobby placed the shovel down and pulled out a black wooden box with golden complex designs and HGC 1995 carved into it from out of the hole."Luke, you need to tell Lex and Reg to come here now. I think we found something and I don't think it is the clue."
The other two boys arrive in less than three minutes...
"Hey sorry we came as soon as we could but I had to bring my neighbor and her friend with me because it's family dinner at her house," Reggie said running towards Bobby.
"Also Bobby we called Carrie to come with and she'll be here in a second with Nick and some guy who is helping her with the scavenger hunt," Alex added carrying a gorgeous girl with box braids on his back with a very pretty girl in a Rush band tee with rich black-brown curls down to her back and sharp winged-eyeliner following him.
"Wait what? Why would you do that?" Bobby yelled, turning to the blonde.
"Well because I was worried when I got a text from Luke that said for verbatim 'Help! Help! Emergency!!! Need to come to Los Feliz now!!! Bad bad bad things!!! Bobby found something but he might be hurt... And then 17 crying emojis, the android emoji, the siren emoji, and then the dove emoji. WHAT THE HELL MAN," Alex said rapidly practically shouting at Luke shoving the phone in Bobby's face
"I mean Bobby wanted you guys over here quickly and I knew that Miss. V wouldn't let you guys leave practice earlier without an excuse... So I made you guys an excuse," Luke said proudly sprawling on the floor finishing up the dandelion crown and starting one made up of daisy.
“Today is literally one of the days we don’t have ballet rehearsal. We made a calendar of our schedules, we literally send who is busy on what days in the group chat every week.”
The two girls start to laugh at the ridiculous scene unfolding before them.
"Oh yeah, this is my neighbor Julie and her friend Flynn," Reggie said, swinging his arm around Julie's shoulders and pointing at Flynn who hops down from Alex's back
"Hey nice to meet you all," Flynn extends her hand to the two boys Bobby smiles back at her shaking her hand.
"Hi, is he okay?" Julie waves before looking at Luke who is looking up at her big eyes, gaping like a fish. He silently gives her the daisy crown. Julie flashed a star stunning smile before gingerly placing the crown upon her head.
Interesting
"Yeah yeah he's just umm... he is just being Luke," Bobby said, nudging Luke who closes his mouth and starts fiercely nodding, "And I'm the simp here," he whispers to Luke before bringing his mango smoothie to his mouth.
Luke's eyes flashed at the challenge as he quickly got up and place the dandelion crown upon Reggie's head. Reggie turned to grin broadly at Bobby as the sun highlighted the dusting of his freckles as his eyes seemed to sparkle with joy. His hair seemed to lack the gel that is usually caked in it, it was a fluffy halo with dainty little yellow flowers in it. Reggie threw his head back in laughter before flouncing over to Bobby.
"Do you like it," Reggie murmured looking up at Bobby with big shiny eyes.
He looked angelic.
Bobby choked on his drink and turned around, hiding his flushing face. Oh shit he’s gorgeous Bobby thought. Looking how the yellow from the petals bring out the green in his eyes. How his face is splashed with freckles each one looking so kissable. His grows warm thinking of a world where he can kiss each and every freckle on Reggie’s face while holding him in his arms. After a minute Bobby looked back up at Reggie whose face has fallen a small pout started to form on his face.
"Is it really that bad?"
"No no no," Bobby practically shouted shaking his head frantically "You look really good Reg. Wait hold on," Bobby muttered sticking his tongue out tilted the crown so it wasn't exactly straight to his head.
"Perfect. You look perfect," Bobby whispered staring into Reggie's eyes. As the world seemed to dissolve around them. Just the two of them.
God, I'm hopeless
The moment was immediately shattered at the sound of vibrations. Bobby looks down and his phone starts blowing up with warning texts from Nick. The boy quickly apologized to Reggie patting him softly on the cheek before calling Nick back.
"Hey man what do you mean watch ou-"
He barely heard Nick's response before getting tackled by a flash of pink.
"I am so glad that you're okay. I got a frantic phone call from Alex saying that you were in the hospital”
[A surprise A/N from after she wrote the background: This is the moment she realizes she wants to write an au with this rather than a simple headcannon... I guess this is the beginning and background of this au and I really hope that you’ll like it because I’m in love with this and I want to write more about it but only if people actually like it but I’m starting to get self-conscious about it lol so let’s dive into it!!!]

Note
I liked your ava post, do you have more aboout usm. The WHOle usm team?
I can’t say I have many many hcs but I’ll give you where I think they might end up after SHIELD, and two songs that fit them if that works.
Peter: I don't know why but I feel like Peter would want to look for his parents once he leaves SHIELD and while doing so, he ends up in a lot of team ups and building up more of his rogues gallery. Basically I imagine stuff from the comic with spider clones, dating MJ, briefly rejoins the Avengers then leaves. Yeah I don't have much for him since comic history leaves people to choose what they want. Imagine Dragon's Beliver because he does have such a heavy pain inside, but that's the thing, he keeps it inside until he snaps them into his fight for justice. "First things first, I'ma say all the words inside my head. I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, The way that things have been.Second thing second, Don't you tell me what you think that I could be. I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea...Taking my message from the veins. Speaking my lesson from the brain. Seeing the beauty through the pain!"
Danny: I'd like to think that he stays in NY to start Heroes for Hire with Luke as soon as they leave SHIELD. They're bros, and he justifies the absence that New York needs Iron Fist more than K'Lun for the moment. He also tries his hand at getting Rand Industries back on track. I also think he does return to K'Lun eventually as King and mystical head. After his work at Rand Industries, he feels more confident as a leader and is willing to stand up to the monks when it comes with changing some of the old ways. Allowing him to travel back to NY to see his friends while keeping the mystical origins of K'Lun sacred. I think Nature Boy rather fits him, soft and melodious and Danny learning he is not alone sort of. "There was a boy. A very strange enchanted boyThey say he wandered very far..Very far over land and sea. A little shy and sad of eye. But very wise, was he."  Les Miserables’ Who am I mainly because I imagine Danny has some identity issues between feeling worthy of the Iron Fist, feeling torn between the US and K'Lun. Ideally, he would end up learning being one does not give up the other part of himself. As one would say they can coexist in a balance. "Who am I? Can I conceal myself forever more.. Pretend I’m not the man I was before?....How can I ever face my fellow men? How can I ever face myself again?"
Luke: As said above, with Danny, when they leave SHIELD, they create Heroes for Hire, they ride or die forever.  Together they clean up their part of New York and Luke comes to terms with some of his past and the people he dealt with in jail. He also meets Jessica Jones during this time and she becomes his new partner (in more ways than one) when Danny leaves for K'Lun. He sometimes does freelance work for SHIELD, mainly at the behest of his parents, sometimes as a favor to Fury. He also sometimes comes by the Helicarrier to be a surprise mentor to whatever new hero they pick up. He is the main instigator of team reunions.
Adam Levine’s If I got locked away totally fits him after the time he spent in jail and scared of being seen as weak, it really fits him and his insecurities. "If I got locked away And we lost it all today. Tell me honestly, would you still love me the same? If I showed you my flaws. If I couldn't be strong. Tell me honestly, would you still love me the same?" One call away also fits him simply for his caring nature and how he'll do anything for his friends, "I'm only one call away. I'll be there to save the daySuperman got nothing on me. I'm only one call away/ Call me, baby, if you need a friend. I just wanna give you love...No matter where you go, know you're not alone. I'm only one call away."
Ava: I think once Ava leaves SHIElD, she has some trouble with the amulet whether form being on her own, knowing SHIELD isn't there watching her every move or just cockiness that she can handle it now. Either way, I see her as  taking a break from the amulet. Reasoning her father wanted her to keep it safe, it didn't mean she had to put it on and be a hero. Ideally, she goes to therapy to work through all these issues before ever putting it on again. I imagine she goes home to PR too. I think she could go into bounty hunting, it's more freelance, she helps put baddies away and she can put her investigative skills to good use. Eventually she'd be White Tiger again but for more superpowered threats than every day patrolling. Just breathe from In the Heights not only for the spanish influences but also the utter fear of returning a failure, "Straighten the spine. Smile for the neighbors. Everything's fine, everything's cool. The standard reply: Lots of tests, lots of papers. Smile, wave goodbye and pray to the sky, "Oh God!" And what will my parents say? Can I go in there and say, "I know I'm letting you down..."  Alyssa Greene from The Prom. The lyrics speak for themselves of the utter perfectionism and drive, "The hair has to be perfect. The As have to be straight...Trophies have to be first place. Ribbons have to be blue. There's always some competition or hoops for jumping through. Just have everything perfected by the time you reach eighteen"
Sam: Admittedly I don't know much about Nova lore or backstory as the others but I think he'll go back to space. Not necessarily as part of the Guardians because honestly I think they had enough members without him. Maybe as a solo act before he finds the other Nova Corps. I definitely see him as becoming a trainer there, finally being the leader he always wanted to be. I also want him to reconnect with his family so he does travel back to Earth to visit them and then swoops by NY for some reunion with his old team before heading back to space.
Bieber’s Lonely fits Sam because at the heart of it all, I think that's what he is. Lonely, he's still young and trying to navigate these powers and his place in the world and space and what his identity is. And no one else can quite get that. "Everybody knows my name now. But somethin' 'bout it still feels strangeLike lookin' in a mirror, tryna steady yourself and seein' somebody else. And everything is not the same now. It feels like all our lives have changed Maybe when I'm older, it'll all calm down. But it's killin' me now. What if you had it all, nut nobody to call? Maybe then you'd know me 'cause I've had everything. But no one's listening and that's just f- lonely." Shawn Mendes' Wonder works for similar reasons. Mainly I imagine him singing it to his missing father who inherited so much but knows nothing personally about him, "I wonder why I'm so afraid of saying something wrong, I never said I was a saint. I wonder, when I cry into my hands. I'm conditioned to feel like it makes me less of a man and I wonder if someday you'll be by my side and tell me that the world will end up alright. I wonder..I wonder."  And then a party song for each
Sam: All I do is win by DJ Khaled "All I do is win, win, win no matter what. Got money on my mind, I can never get enough ('Nough) And every time I step up in the building Everybody hands go up And they stay there And they stay there, up, down, up, down, up, down 'Cause all I do is win (Win), win (Win), win And if you going in put your hands in the air, make 'em stay there"
Luke: Finesse by Bruno Mars, "We out here drippin' in finesseIt don't make no sense Out here drippin' in finesse You know it, you know it We out here drippin' in finesse It don't make no sense Out here drippin' in finesse You know it, you know it"
Peter: Another one bites the dust by Queen "nother one bites the dustAnother one bites the dust And another one gone and another one gone Another one bites the dust Hey I'm gonna get you too Another one bites the dust"
Danny: Normally, I don't think Danny would be into party music, too much cursing, too much noise to distort the mind, that stuff. But Rihanna is catchy. "I wanna take you away, let's escape into the music, DJ, let it playI just can't refuse it, like the way you do this Keep on rockin' to it Please don't stop the, please don't stop the music I wanna take you away, let's escape into the music, DJ, let it play I just can't refuse it, like the way you do this Keep on rockin' to it Please don't stop the, please don't stop the, please don't stop the music"
Ava: Woman by Ke$ha "I'm a motherfucking woman, baby, alright I don't need a man to be holding me too tight I'm a motherfucking woman, baby, that's right I'm just having fun with my ladies here tonight I'm a motherfucker"  This other cool blog is much more into USM and has tons of hcs if you want more of this stuff, @im-rewriting-ultimate-spider-man
