Hmm... that is an interesting question

To be honest, my goldfish-ish brain only has the capacity for so many ships at once, so more often than not I am only focused on 1-2 ships from a particular show

Truth be told, it is miraculous (hahaha... pun not intended) that I can focus on all four sides of the lovesquare + whatever other shipping shenanigans are going on...

This all being said, I haven't really devoted all that much time to ponder my feelings on gabenath...

I can see why a lot of people like the ship, and honestly for a while it looked like the show was heading that way... but something about the ship feels kinda toxic to me...

Now I know... I KNOW... that people will ship regardless of toxicity, unhealthy boundaries, etc. and if you enjoy that in your ships that is your prerogative and right, and even I enjoy ships with that kind of vibe sometimes

This is all to say that while Gabenath isn't my cup of tea, I have absolutely nothing against the ship's existence and I totally understand people's support of it

Billy was definitely that baby, the one that everyone would peek at in the stroller, with his blonde hair and big, blue eyes covered with thick lashes, and go “Oh my goodness! She’s so pretty!” And his mom would smile and say “Oh thank you! His name is Billy.” Neil would definitely throw a fit every time it happened, talking about how his son is not pretty. At some point, when Billy gets older, people will still come up and call him pretty, and he’ll just start crying and throwing a tantrum because “I’m not pretty!! You’re pretty!!!” Toddler Billy thinks pretty is a bad word, so he’ll walk around calling people pretty as an insult, and he doesn’t understand why everyone laughs at him because it’s very serious! People are not supposed to be pretty. Then one day, his mom sits him down and explains that pretty is not a bad word, and she’ll say that if Billy wants to be pretty, he can be pretty. Unfortunately, Billy makes the mistake of announcing, in front of Neil, “I’m pretty! Ain’t I pretty?” So Neil loses his shit and scares Billy, which sends his mom into a protective fit that only continues to escalate. Billy just sits in the corner, sobbing and saying he’s sorry, that he’s not pretty, he’ll never say it again so please leave mommy alone.

At night, when his mom tucks him in, he kisses her bruised cheek and whispers “I think you’re pretty.” as if it’s a very big secret that he isn’t supposed to know. His mom laughs and whispers back “I think you’re very pretty too, Billy. My pretty Billy.”

How Tam's Cuffs Work

Rosemary, how do Tam's cuffs work?

I'm glad you asked, reader!

So, the cuffs control Tam's actions similarly to how a mesmer would.

So would that mean that a mesmer was involved in creating the cuffs?

Not exactly, reader, these cuffs were made from magsidian and ethertine.

Magsidian had the ability to manipulate its surroundings, as we first saw when Sophie visited Exile, and they were given magsidian flasks that refilled themselves using the moisture in the air. This means that of manipulated properly magsidian can mimic elvin abilities.

This property of magsidian is exetremely interesting, speaking that the material itself is made out of shadowflux, which we know Tam has the ability to control. Now, as we've seen in previous instances shadowflux also has the ability to control Tam, so by controlling the shadowflux stored inside of him, the cuffs were able to control him.

But what part does ethertine have to play here?

Well, since magsidian is concentrated shadowflux in the form of a semi-stable material, we can assume that Ethertine is concentrated quintessence, in a more stable form, which suggests that a strong enough flasher would have the ability to control quintessence.

Each unmapped stars bottled light is a form of quintessence.

Elementine - used to make frissyn, can put out everblaze

Marquiseire - breaks things down (possibly like an acid)

Phosforien - can be used for DNA tests

Lucilliant - can leap underground

Candesia - can leap underwater

These specific things combined make perfect sense to be a part of the cuffs.

Elementine - can control use of abilities

Marquiseire - can break down things, such as shadowflux or shadow vapor

Phosforien - has effect on bio material, can alter genetics, like with Keefe

Lucilliant - works in very dark places, where there is no available light, or rather, there is only shadow

Candesia - same as Lucilliant, along with possibly having the ability to alter water in the body

So that's what Glimmer has to do with the project!

ok well now i know that im going overboard but redundant. redundant is supposedly the key to all of this, the thing thats out of place, but what does it mean. and its how you used it, too.

does its pairing with 'secrecy' imply the need for no more secrets? if we're going with my previous theory (since thats the only one i have right now) it could mean that bronte and oralie are asking sophie to dig up old secrets and bring them to the light- to not let them be secrets anymore?

but then how does that tie in to the next part of the message? "secrecy and redundancy compose the toolkit of those trying to hide"

AND WAIT HOLD ON- does the word 'compose' have something to do with the 'melody' oralie was talking about? will sophie have to create some kind of melody or key to something?

but back to the previous part, how does it tie in to the next part? is the 'those' in this situation referring to sophie and her friends? or is it something or someone else? is it referring to the neverseen? or maybe even the council or black swan?

and there's something about 'sweet' in oralie's message that's off. something that just...doesn't sit right. and the focus on history...something about sweetness and history....

and the answer to "infectious light" exist in canon but...what is it? i havent done a series reread in a while but i just might if it means i get to figure it out.

then unmapped stars are elementine, marquiseire, phosforien, lucilliant, and candesia- does it have something to do with that? or maybe with some of the publicly known stars? or does it have to do with the three sources? maybe that would be more likely...

but what does it mean. what does it all mean?

i don't know if redundancy is the key to everything, as each part of the riddle contributes to a different aspect of the answer, but I think the redundancy part stands out a little more than some of the others, perhaps. I will be honest I thought the redundant part was a little more obvious, but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's giving you all so much trouble!! since I know the answer, I kinda lost track of the difficulty of the riddle, so it's really cool to see what you think of it!

and it's right beside "s

ecrecy," so supposedly the two of those go together. secrets and redundancy. redundancy and secrets. perhaps some people use redundant logic to help keep their secrets, avoiding giving anything new away. as councillors, they likely have access to old secrets and hidden things--I mean, that the whole point of the caches, to store secrets--so there's a variety of things they could be trying to clue her in to.

and these things "compose the toolkit of those trying to hide." is it literal? is there an actual toolkit somewhere that she needs to find? is someone literally in hiding? does she need to hide? or is someone hiding from themselves? or is it even a person at all? maybe it's just symbolic of something else that's trying to hide away from the light. maybe the secret is "the darkness in the world." there's so many ways we could take this.

i think that ties in to your queries about "those" and who it refers to. it could be anyone. its a very vague word use, which is undoubtedly going to give sophie some trouble. I will say part of the answer to at least part of who "those" are is within the riddle, if you can put together the clues.

and then jumping quick to the "compose" and "melody." they could be related! they're in the same secret message, and none of it really means what it appears to, so there's so many ways they could be incorporated into each other.

but back to the other words! "infectious light" and "sweet" are two of the words essential to the meaning, but they stand out partially because they just don't sound right in the sentence. but it's the meaning behind each of them that creates the answer, I couldn't have one without the other. it's a combination of Bronte and Oralie's messages that give all the hints. we could also theorize that "history will have something sweet to say about you" could be referring to Bronte as history, and Oralie as sweet--those are the characters types they kind of fit in to.

I drew this from canon, but there's a lot of glowing things in canon so there's a lot it could be. we do know that each of the unmapped stars has a different use, which Mr. Forkle listed off (and which I added to the wiki a while back so you don't need to reread for that !!). but there is also the three sources, which seem pretty essential to elven society (despite being introduced only eight books in)
