The Dagger Society Headcanons

Note: Greetings! This is Dahlia, and welcome to my first post! These are my headcanons of the almighty Dagger Society from The Young Elites! Although it is not much, I do hope it is enough to entertain. Thank you for reading!

Enzo Valenciano

Enzo looks adorable in bed hair. But ever since the Daggers teased him about it, he never showed it again.

He and Dante sees each other as brothers.

He is allured to be 5'10" or 178cm in height.

He is a lowkey bisexual. He does not want to disappoint Kenettra by his sexuality, so he hides in a closet.

Because of how Enzo treats the Daggers, they began to call him "Father", jokingly, of course.

Enzo is actually very fond of cats, but he never admits it whenever someone points it out.

He usually overworks in order to create new plans and future discussions with the Daggers. Sometimes, he falls asleep on his desk or avoid sleep for the whole night.

The prince does not know how to cook. At all.

Speaking of which, he also burned the kitchen down in the Fortunata Court when he once attempted to cook roasted meat for himself. He did this by straight up burning the meat.

Enzo sees Gemma as a baby who needs to be protected at all times. He also tucked her in bed in her bedchamber when she fell asleep on the couch.

Even if Enzo hates both Teren and Queen Guilietta, he does miss them as well. He sometimes look back into the memories of them before the Blood Fever.

His body shape is slightly muscular, according to Raffaele.

Enzo surprisingly has some strength in him. Although struggling, he managed to carry an injured Dante on his back towards his bedchamber.

He is very bad at flirting, which leads to awkward moments with ladies.

The prince likes to say horrible puns. All of the Daggers aside from Gemma are annoyed by his attempts. Star Thief genuinely laughs at the puns.

Raffaele Laurent Bessette

He has a habit of hair combing.

His height is depicted to be 6' or 183cm.

Already by his job as a consort, it is obvious that he is openly bisexual. It is canonically mentioned in the book that his clients are both male and female.

He loves to sing in the bathhouse whenever he bathes.

Raffaele genuinely loves Enzo as a brother and a love interest.

Whenever he sees faint bruises (given by his clients) on his skin, he feels insecure.

Raffaele has a talent of drawing, as he is seen to be very good with sketches. This often make Michel envious.

Among all the Daggers, he is the only one who can cook like a professional. He can bake bread as well.

Raffaele once taught Enzo how to cook a simple stew. When the Reaper burned down the kitchen, he scolded him heavily with Enzo in front of him, on his knees. Lucent had to handle the fire.

He often has a competition with Lucent of hair styling: he is good, but the Beldish woman is better.

He keeps many skincare products in his drawers aside from documents and files and journals.

Raffaele dislikes rats. He dislikes them so much that he screamed at the sight of one inside the Fortunata Court. It was brought in by Gemma, of course.

This boy have smooth, long, and elegant fingers. It wears many rings, too.

He still loves and misses his family. Sometimes, Raffaele wonders what his mother and five brothers are doing now.

Raffaele has olive skin despite being a northern Kenettran, as northern Kenettrans have a warm brown complexion.

Gemma Salvatore

Her height is thought to be 5'3" or 160cm. She is the shortest person in the Dagger Society.

Gemma is hinted to be pansexual, but she does not say anything about it much.

Although she loves animals, she much prefers dogs over cats. She dislikes spiders as well.

She is good at singing, especially songs with high notes.

Gemma loves to bring cats into the Fortunata Court in order to drag out the true colors of Enzo towards the felines.

She loves her father dearly. She also has a younger brother (unmarked child).

Gemma inherited her olive skin from her father, who is a southern Kenettran that moved to Estenzia. Her late mother lived in Anjon, a real Northern Kenettran.

She views Enzo as an older brother/father figure.

Lucent is her most closest friend, possibly considering her as a best friend.

Gemma is allergic to pollen. When she went to a garden of flowers and smelled its scent, she got a horrible allergy reaction.

Gemma hates animal abuse. It is enough to make her cry.

Her secret crush/love interest is Michel. But since she fears rejection, she just treats him like a friend. Only Lucent knows about this information.

She can do an intimidating stare/glare at people. Hers is so terrifying that people tremble or cower on her feet.

Her favorite food are tarts (if it does exist in the 13th century).

Her cooking is just as bad as Enzo's. Fortunately, she did not burn any kitchens.

Her favorite hobby is dancing alone to the tune of the lute.

She genuinely laughs at Enzo's horrible puns. In fact, she actually thinks they are funny.

Lucent

Back in Beldain, she has two younger sisters and a youngest brother. Overall, she is the eldest.

One of her siblings is a malfetto.

Her father died in the Blood Fever, leaving her mother to take care of the children.

Her height is thought to be 6' or 183cm, same as Raffaele's.

Because of her relationship with Maeve, it is known for everyone that she is lesbian.

She has a birthmark on her left arm, whereas her right arm is the marking.

She has a dream of being a dancer, though her dancing skills are rather poor, according to Enzo.

Lucent is very smart with mathematics, many are impressed.

Even if the death of Tristan Corrigan was an accident, Lucent blames herself deeply.

Lucent made a flower crown for Maeve twice.

She is a woman with a big bust among the Daggers. Sometimes, Gemma would ask her how they developed that way.

Her skills in hair styling is better than Raffaele. Even if she is better, Lucent does not mind a competition with the Messenger.

Lucent once used her powers to make everyone fly for fun and entertainment.

Her Beldish accent sounds Norwegian or Swedish if compared in the modern world.

Her pale skin is slightly tan. This is the result of her stay in Kenettra after Maeve's mother exiled her from Beldain.

Dante

His height is seen to be 6'3" or 191cm. He is the tallest among the Daggers.

Dante is a straight ally. Although he prefers a heterosexual relationship, he does respect those who are in the LGBTQ+ Community.

He cares for Enzo deeply, as he sees the prince as a brother. This is why he tried to convince him to get rid of Adelina.

Dante misses his parents. He is also an only-child.

Dante fell in love with Daphne. But he lets her go when he discovered that she fell in love Enzo.

Because of his muscular form, he can carry all of the Daggers at once.

He has a talent of walking with his hands and juggling.

Dante is a northern Kenettran. This means he has darker skin like Enzo's.

He hated Adelina because he realized she looks like Daphne. He knows Enzo liked her because of his former love.

Michel is his best friend, as he secretly ships The Architect with Gemma.

He is a very good listener. Whenever someone needs him, Dante is all ears as he listens to their problems and helps them fix it.

If he is muscular, then he is also heavy. This is mentioned because Dante broke a chair thrice when he just wanted to sit.

He still has the talent of blacksmithing from his apprentice training.

Dante has a huge scar on his leg. He got this when he was wounded in a battle before Daphne nursed him to health.

Among all the Daggers, Dante is the most irritated by Enzo's puns. Michel had to calm him from attacking.

Michel

Michel has an older sister and a younger brother in his family.

His height is seen to be 5'6" or 168cm.

He shyly admits that he is omnisexual to the Daggers.

He does not have a surname because he was disowned after he became marked from the Blood Fever.

He always had the talent of art when he was a child.

His feelings for Gemma developed when he saw how enthusiastic and sweet she is towards everyone. It adds when Michel sees her determination.

He and Dante are best friends in the team.

Michel has a grudge against Enzo because the prince declined the offer to be the model for his painting.

He is next to Raffaele who can cook like a professional. However, he cannot bake bread nor delicacies.

He has two books to draw on: one for his sketches and arts, the other one for NSFW content and practices.

Speaking of arts, he keeps denying the fact that he once drew Gemma on one of his parchments that was supposed to be used for studying.

When Michel found out his love interest loves tarts, he tried making one but fails miserably.

Michel has a small talent in sculpting.

Michel can speak Domaccan fluently. He learned this from his older sister and father, who both have huge interest in Domaccan culture.

In the modern world, Michel knows how to breakdance and do backflips.

MAJOR Midnight Star spoilers under the cut

Despite the fluttering in her stomach, Maeve wasn’t nervous, not really. She sat on a tree stump near the front border of the woods, legs crossed. Absently, she ran her fingers through her hair, which was beginning to fade back to its pale blonde color. Finally, she spotted who she had been waiting for. Maeve stood.

“Maeve,” Lucent greeted breezily. Her name dripped off Lucent’s lips like honey.

“Lucent,” she stated simply, “How are you?” Maeve reached her hand out to Lucent as they walked, who threaded their fingers together like it was the easiest thing in the world.

Since the night of Adelina’s death, Maeve and Lucent had been on much better terms. It was hard, trying to return back to normal- or, more accurately, what they assumed normal was supposed to feel like. The one thing they hadn’t been able to settle between themselves was Maeve’s duty to the throne. Lucent still didn’t believe that Maeve would be able to have both her and the throne. Maeve tried her hardest to convince Lucent that she could, but Lucent wouldn’t believe her until she was proven wrong. Lucent was stubborn, but Maeve was determined. That made all the difference.

“I’m well. It’s strange, being here again,” Lucent remarks, and Maeve steals a glance at her. ‘Here’ is referring to the deep woods of Beldain. They were on some path long forgotten by everyone but the two of them. Maeve and Lucent traveled to these woods many times in their youth, and Maeve was fond of them, even now.

“I can imagine,” Maeve mused, speaking mainly to stall time. Mostly, she was focusing on following the path. She took an abrupt turn, and- there. Maeve stopped and turned to face Lucent. “Do you remember the first day we met?” She asked, taking Lucent’s other hand in hers. Lucent nodded.

“How could I forget?” Lucent replied smoothly, her dark eyes gazing deeply into Maeve’s own. Maeve continued on with her story anyway.

“My parents had sent us out together, some meaningless errand, I’m sure. They figured that since we were the same age, we would get along.

“We did, almost too well. Well enough that we deemed their task useless, and went exploring instead. We stopped here.” Maeve nodded her head to the woods surrounding them.

“We talked here for so long that my mother sent a group of guards to find us.” Maeve paused then, moving her hand from Lucent’s grasp to Lucent’s arm, tracing the fading purple marks there.

“This is also the place where I first knew that I love you.” They were close enough for Maeve to hear Lucent’s breath catch, and to Maeve, there had never been a prettier sound. “Lucent, would you allow me to be privileged enough to marry you?” Lucent’s face twisted with confusion, then darkened. “Maeve,” she uttered seriously, “You know we can’t.” A smile spread across Maeve’s face. “Oh, but we can. My brother has recently had a daughter with enough royal blood to take the throne after me. There’s no need for me to bear children anymore.” A small smile spread across Lucent’s face. She took a small step forward, closing the gap between them. Still smiling, she pressed her lips to Maeve.

Maeve didn’t think she would ever tire of kissing Lucent. Maeve’s left hand was still clutching Lucent’s, but her right hand had traveled to Lucent’s face, cupping her cheek gently. Lucent’s hand rested against Maeve’s side, warm and comforting.

When they separated, Maeve rested their foreheads together. “Is that a yes?” She asked, a hint of smugness finding its way into her voice.

“I would be honored,” Lucent murmured at last, saying the one thing Maeve had dreamed to hear since their first kiss.

“Truly,” Maeve replied, her grin widening further, “The honor’s all mine.”

TYE/Descendants AU

I recently pirated Descendants three like Uma would have wanted and it very much solidified in my mind the headcanons for a Young Elites AU that i’ve had since the second movie. Now I’ll preface the rest of this with the fact that you could make a very decent Enzolina AU with Adelina as Mal and Enzo as Ben, but I ask you this: does anyone still stan Enzolina in the year 2019?

You might think it’s unfair to peg Daphne as Audrey but we know literally nothing about Daphne so everything’s fair, also I like Audrey and I like Daphne(as a concept) it’s not meant as a slight

SO here’s the gist of the AU cause I always have to justify my AUs: 

Giulietta caught the fever instead of Enzo and she was too old to survive, so she’s dead and Enzo isn’t an Elite

Instead Enzo’s father remained King

So this king, another character we know nothing about, decides that the Young Elites are a potential public danger and judges them based on their power. The ones he deems relatively benign (Michel, Dante) are allowed to remain unhindered while the dangerous ones (Gemma, Lucent, Adelina, Raffaele [The power to make most people fall head-over-heels in love with you is very dangerous on all levels except for physical, and even then a little bit]) and their families are moved to a Isle of the Lost-style penal colony to live in isolation

fast forward five years, Enzo comes of age and it’s time for him to become king. He was never a fan of this system and decides he’s going to bring four of these ‘dangerous’ Elites at a time to live with him in the palace so he can judge them himself

There aren’t really evil parents in this one (except for Adelina and Violetta but we’ll get there), the plan on the Dagger/VKs part was for Raffaele to spell Enzo with his powers and make him release everyone. There’s gotta be some kind of wand-object that can release all the Young Elites for plot’s sake, maybe Michel made something magic for the king?

Anyway the problem with that plan is woops Raffaele actually falls for Enzo! And starts to feel really bad about using his powers on him!

He asks Violetta to use her power on Enzo which I’m deciding once again for plot contrivance would destroy the effect of his power; this takes the place of the anti-love potion brownie

Violetta accidentally deploys her power too early (in the carriage like in the movie) but Enzo’s like lol I figured but I genuinely like you? I can say that for a fact now that the magic’s gone

Idk how we’d manage to have a dragon fight in this one I think Jane!Michel still grabs the wand because of low self-esteem and Raffaele grabs it away from him and everyone gasps in panic like they do in the movie, he ALMOST DOES IT but the other three convene together and they have a Moment like the VKs do at the end of D1 before they decide to give the wand back

And then, y’know, they have a dance party

SO that’s the first movie I know what you’re thinking “Why isn’t Adelina Mal?” Because: the Roses are the pirates

I was really tempted to make Magiano Uma and Adelina Harry because their personalities line up so much better, but role-wise this works a lot better

Watch the boat scene at the end of Descendants 2 and tell me it could not be a g-rated version of the boat scene at the end of The Rose Society, with Adelina/Uma controlling Enzo/Ben for her own gain and Raffaele/Mal snapping him out of it

That said in It’s Goin’ Down (a different boat scene from the boat scene i just mentioned) Magiano sings Uma’s part and Adelina sing’s Harry’s part because the part where Harry goes on about how he CAN and WILL kill Ben is very Adelina and not Magiano at all. Also the rest of the song i think just fits better that way. this song was one of my biggest points of contention for almost making Magiano Uma and Adelina Harry 

You KNOW pirate Adelina has a cool eyepatch too no question

Now you might be thinking ‘Raffaele is very good at fitting in and being polite in court where does the insecurity about not being right for Enzo and dragging him down politically and socially that Mal gets at the beginning of D2 come from?” Homosexuality 

Raffaele thinks he’s gonna jeopardize Enzo’s claim to the throne if they stay together so he runs back to the Isle and Enzo and the gang go get him, y’know, like the plot of Descendants 2

So some Rose Pirate backstory: Adelina ran away from her father in the chaos of their relocation to the Isle. Violetta didn’t follow her in order to quell their father’s wrath and try and stop him from going after Adelina, but Adelina sees it as her choosing him over her

Adelina makes it on her own for a while until she meets Magiano, recently trapped here by the Inquisition and VERY chagrined about it

They try to use their powers to escape several times to no avail, but they bond during the experience and decide to go it together

Shortly afterward they meet Sergio, who owns the fish-and-chip shop that becomes their base of operations. at this point theyre like 14 and he’s seventeen, he grows fond of these kids who keep making a ruckus in his dumb shop and offers to let them stay there for permanents if they’ll help out around the place

Martino Amouteru locates Adelina after she sets down roots and tries to drag her ‘home’. When Sergio sees him try to lay hands on her he pins him to a wall, gives him a gash on his arm, and threatens to cut his whole hand off if he ever tries to touch her again. Martino turns and runs and Adelina never encounters him again

Magiano and Adelina do similar light teasing on Sergio to how Uma and Harry tease Gil but Sergio’s not dumb he knows theyre just like that sometimes

so the roses start gaining ‘territory’ on the Isle and eventually butt heads with Raffaele and the Daggers, especially when they see he’s recruited Violetta

she wants them all to be friends but no one else does, so the two societies become rivals instead. Violetta sticks with the Daggers, if only because Adelina doesn’t make it seem like she’s very welcome in the Roses (she’s still mad)

so flash forward back to the second movie, Sergio sees Enzo there with Violetta Gemma and Lucent and reports back to Adelina immediately

the Roses kidnap Enzo and Magiano taunts the Daggers about it. If Magiano’s a little more willing to get his hands dirty in this AU it’s because he is VERY stir crazy in here on this island for four years

Adelina strikes the deal with Raffaele that Enzo gets to live if Raffaele brings her the wand so she can get everyone off this island

Raffaele reluctantly agrees with no real choice in the matter. All the Daggers go back to Estenzia and get Michel to make them a fake wand so they can get Enzo back without handing the Roses all that power

Meanwhile the Roses expect foul play. Adelina and Enzo have the same kinda conversation Uma and Ben have in the movie, but it ends when Magiano can sense the Daggers powers in range again. He copies Raffaele's power and makes Enzo fall in love with Adelina as a contingency plan

We already discussed the it’s goin’ down scene, I love it

They basically just have to grab Enzo and run after they bring him over cause they realize the wand’s fake pretty quick. There’s no talking dog scene

When we get to the boat scene, Violetta figures out that Magiano and Adelina spelled Enzo pretty soon after Adelina comes out, and she has to hard reset Raffaele’s power to free Enzo again but they do the true love’s kiss thing too and it’s great and gay

Oh and y’know how Lumiere’s there at the end? Like just hanging out? That’s Teren. In case you were wondering about him he’s not important in this one he’s just hanging around not being awful because Giulietta doesn’t exist anymore

Adelina still gets away and teases the third movie while the Daggers have another dance party

I’ve spent far too much time on this tonight but I can and will come back with the AU summary of D3. I’ll tell you this right now Magiano and Adelina DO kiss and the D3 writers are cowards for not letting Huma do so

Adelina is way more light-hearted in the first book. Dante’s murder is the turning point.

Lucent and Dante were likely quite close, as she is very angry at Adelina for killing him.

Dante’s eyes are green.

Michel’s only marking is his nails.

Teren has a ponytail.

Enzo’s hair is a very dark red, not bright coloured.

OLRIGHT so first off, my thoughts on Ms. Lu's main romances is generally they all feel like they're going somewhere interesting, but then they never really get there. And also that they all had so much potential to be unique and subversive but almost always end up just like any ole normal romance

OK NOW THE DEETS. THE TEA.

June x Day from Legend: The OG pair. Literally the best out of all of them. Felt like they actually had depth and properly explored conflicts. I really like it except for the fact it kept going in the Eden spinoff Rebel, which to me felt like it took away the impact of their bittersweet, hope-filled Champion ending.

June x Anden: ANDEN THAT GIRL IS TOO YOUNG FOR YOU. GET AWAY FROM HER. Otherwise I'm just eh about it. It felt like it existed just to give June and Day #indecision and #angst

Adelina x Enzo from TYE: Quick recap: Adelina has been abused all her life and is the new recruit in the Daggers, a secret assassin committee. Enzo is the Dagger leader, and initially only felt something for Adelina because she looks like his dead lover. They start making out after a pretty superficial buildup.

Now, many people have said their instalove was supposed to be weird and cringy because it's reflecting how after prolonged trauma, of course Adelina would fall for the first person so show appreciation for her. BUT to me it seems less like commentary and more like the book actually wanted us to find them hot and shippable.

To which I say: Enzo and Addie have no chemistry (Enzo has infinite more chemistry with Raffaele but alas they're not canon and thus not included) and I wish Addie spends the second book not pining after him, but actually nefariously plotting how to use his power for her own gain.

Adelina x Magiano: Ah, the classic "I'm evil and twisted, but you take my demons away." They're mostly fine! I quite like them. I just wish there was more exploration on what Magiano felt about Addie's twisted mind and if he felt conflicted about it at all (at times he would offhandedly tell Addie she's being maybe perhaps a little too cruel, but he never actually like. Does anything about these concerns.)

Also I didn't really like how the trilogy ended so it's just. A little underwhelming.

Lucent x Maeve: Finally, some sapphics! But I'm sad they're side characters and only get a few chapters dedicated to their romance. Like, at the end their romance arc is just concluded in summary, offscreen.

Emika x Hideo from Warcross: YOU ALREADY KNOW I FEEL ABOUT HIDEO. I want to punch him in the nuts. Emika has way more chemistry and potential with Jax. Emika should not have gotten back with Hideo! She should have dumped his ass for good! I don't care how sexy the book keeps telling me he is!

Jax x Sasuke: I'll be honest, I keep forgetting they're a thing. Most of their romance is skimmed over pretty quick in flashback, and I don't feel anything particular towards them as a ship.

Nannerl x Elf Prince Guy from Kingdom of Back: Now THIS one is actually subversive, since Elf Prince Guy turns out to be manipulating Nannerl this whole time. Unfortunately the plot twist didn't really get me because I truly felt no zing between Nannerl and Elf Guy. I just remember the book kept telling us he was hot and intriguing and so sad and mysterious. When the twist happened I was just like......okay.

WELCOME BACK FRIEND! I am glad that our love brings you joy.~ As for the latter question, we do indeed plan on our lives being entangled with each other’s presence to the very day our souls disappear from the universe (why did I feel like wording it like that). In fact (oh my god I think we did this in the first year of knowing each other actually) we have planned on living together till the day we’re in our eighties rocking peacefully in our rocking chairs and then death carries its way upon us and we die together, simultaneously, making dying whale noises. Which, dying whales noises are these weird as fuck noises we would make together unto which we can not do anymore and it saddens us deeply. But maybe the ability will come back when that moment comes. (I’m wording everything so weird and ridiculous forgive me)

AS FOR TYE. oh man. see….I have another fave that can be found there. In this book series. Who I barely talk about. But I love her SO fucking much. And that, my dear friend, is the god damn death quEEN, Maeve Corrigan. Do I know why I love her? Not entirely. But she could fucking kill me and I wouldn’t be mad. At all. she’S SO PRETTY TOO GOD FUCK EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO BAWL. Currently she’s the only fictional fave I have that’s a girl and just god damn. I need more girl faves tbqh. LISTEN THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT HER THAT’S JUST SO DAMN NICE. I love her. I’m happy her and Lucent are all good and dandy they loVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH THEY BOTH DESERVE IT WOW OK. altho I still kinda wanna steal her from Lucent lol so sorry orz

He’s not a fave but I love Teren. So much. I HATED HIM IN THE FIRST BOOK. I WAS ABLE TO TOLERATE HIM IN THE SECOND. AND THEN I JUST BOOM, RIGHT NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE THIRD, I WAS JUST, I LOVE THIS MAN. Teren’s a good guy I can’t I love him why’d he have to die like this is just not fair (I just had fear there wow me can you grammar). I also love Sergio tbh. Sergio’s a great guy. I wish there was a bit more of him tbh. tbh tbh tbh. Also just ?? Adelina is such a bitch sorry whoops but I don’t hate her I wish I did damn Marie Lu and leaving me so conflicted.

Thoughts on The Young Elites trilogy now that I finished my reread!

Good stuff first:

> Even if I don’t love a Marie Lu book, I’ll at least still like the concept of it, and the concept of TYE is undeniably amazing. I keep looking for protagonists to “turn to the dark side”, so to speak. I remember watching Star Wars and desperately wishing Rey actually did at least dabble in the dark side. So it’s pretty great to have a book series where the main character has the reasons to turn evil and DOES turn evil (although “evil“ is honestly subjective because the Daggers really aren’t that much better people lol).

> Lucent? Maeve??? I’ll take more. In fact, I WISH there were more. But unfortunately they aren’t the main characters, so their relationship doesn’t have too much time to flourish.

> These books are generally fun reads! I’d give it 3/5. I think the Legend Trilogy is still my favourite Lu books, and I’d give that 4/5.

> I want to see this series developed as a TV show so, soooo badly. Bonus if it’s animated because I think the aesthetics of the story really lend themselves to an illustrated medium rather than live action. Cmonnnnn let’s make this happen.

Now for the stuff I’m not so hot about, which I’m putting under the cut so y’all don’t have to see negativity unless you choose to.

(TLDR; the execution is what knocks it down a point for me. The trilogy had a lot of potential that I don’t think was entirely tapped.)

1. This is a problem I have with all of Lu’s books: there’s a lot of telling instead of showing. Biggest examples are whenever Adelina says something along the lines of “I feel the darkness stir in me” like okay....can you describe that darkness and what exactly it’s doing to you please. And also when characters narrate “I think of the time when xxx happened” and what about it? Why are you thinking about it? What impact and emotion is it bringing to you? What exactly about that memory is drawing you do it? Elaborate thanks.

2. The characters generally feel flat, mostly for the above reason. Enzo in particular, who Adelina is supposed to be infatuated with: she describes him as having “boyish mischief”, but this is something we barely saw. The only vibe I get from the man is brooding. She spends a lot of time thinking about wanting to see him, but we could have used more narration of WHY she wants to see him. We know it’s because he rescued her--the writing could have put more emphasis on that. Show us Adelina imagining Enzo rescuing her over and over again. Show us how she feels that he’s the first person to save her, the one thing she’s wanted for a long time. And for this reason I’m not so into their insta-love, and I almost would have preferred if Enzo did admit that he only loved Adelina because she reminded him of Daphne rather than actually being in love with her. Because I see why Adelina would fall head over heels in love with Enzo, but not why Enzo would fall for Adelina in that short amount of time.

3. I’m kinda :///// whenever Magiano is described as looking savage or as having animalistic behaviours, since he is the only black main character in the series and is the only character described as such (You could debate whether Enzo is black or not, but Lu has confirmed he is Italian only). I don’t know if Lu is already aware of this because it seems like those descriptions calmed down a whole lot in the third book.

4. The premise of the third book has always been iffy to me, especially since it didn’t feel like the deities / godly realms ACTUALLY existed in the first two books. It all just felt like lore. And to suddenly say “actually yes the gods are real, and we can go to the Underworld, and we can give back our powers” feels very jarring. It’s the same issue I had with King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo, where up until the second half of that book, it’s established the saints were likely just extremely powerful grisha instead of gods, but then it turned out that not only were they actual gods, but they’re also existing in.....an alternate pocket dimension? Because apparently that’s possible now? And I don’t even know how this could be remedied! I don’t know how Lu could have shown the deities were real in the first two books! So this is just pure frustration for me.

5. ADELINA’S DEATH. Adelina’s death. Oh my god. She went through all that just to die. It’s so hard to find redemption arcs in media that don’t just involve the character dying in the end to “atone” for their sins. I think I would’ve preferred if Adelina had to actually face the consequences of her actions and actively try to fix it after realizing she was wrong. Her sister died because of her, and she has to live with it. If anything I find that more tragic.

6. Adelina has a lot of villain shorthands and I’m not sure they’re all...handled properly. I’ll make a full post about this later.

7. The markings disappearing at the end. I’m not sure how to feel about this one. On one hand it could be a good insight into how even without obvious markings, the unmarked will still remember who was marked and still be prejudiced against them, because prejudice isn’t based on logic. But on the other hand, it just feels like...a cop out? Adelina spent this whole trilogy trying to undo the prejudice against malfettos. Her solution to introduce more prejudice was clearly presented as wrong, and by the end of the story, the “correct��� way the problem can be solved is if...everyone just didn’t have markings anymore? Huh.

Note: Greetings! This is Dahlia, and welcome to my first post! These are my headcanons of the almighty Dagger Society from The Young Elites! Although it is not much, I do hope it is enough to entertain. Thank you for reading!

Enzo Valenciano

Enzo looks adorable in bed hair. But ever since the Daggers teased him about it, he never showed it again.

He and Dante sees each other as brothers.

He is allured to be 5'10" or 178cm in height.

He is a lowkey bisexual. He does not want to disappoint Kenettra by his sexuality, so he hides in a closet.

Because of how Enzo treats the Daggers, they began to call him "Father", jokingly, of course.

Enzo is actually very fond of cats, but he never admits it whenever someone points it out.

He usually overworks in order to create new plans and future discussions with the Daggers. Sometimes, he falls asleep on his desk or avoid sleep for the whole night.

The prince does not know how to cook. At all.

Speaking of which, he also burned the kitchen down in the Fortunata Court when he once attempted to cook roasted meat for himself. He did this by straight up burning the meat.

Enzo sees Gemma as a baby who needs to be protected at all times. He also tucked her in bed in her bedchamber when she fell asleep on the couch.

Even if Enzo hates both Teren and Queen Guilietta, he does miss them as well. He sometimes look back into the memories of them before the Blood Fever.

His body shape is slightly muscular, according to Raffaele.

Enzo surprisingly has some strength in him. Although struggling, he managed to carry an injured Dante on his back towards his bedchamber.

He is very bad at flirting, which leads to awkward moments with ladies.

The prince likes to say horrible puns. All of the Daggers aside from Gemma are annoyed by his attempts. Star Thief genuinely laughs at the puns.

Raffaele Laurent Bessette

He has a habit of hair combing.

His height is depicted to be 6' or 183cm.

Already by his job as a consort, it is obvious that he is openly bisexual. It is canonically mentioned in the book that his clients are both male and female.

He loves to sing in the bathhouse whenever he bathes.

Raffaele genuinely loves Enzo as a brother and a love interest.

Whenever he sees faint bruises (given by his clients) on his skin, he feels insecure.

Raffaele has a talent of drawing, as he is seen to be very good with sketches. This often make Michel envious.

Among all the Daggers, he is the only one who can cook like a professional. He can bake bread as well.

Raffaele once taught Enzo how to cook a simple stew. When the Reaper burned down the kitchen, he scolded him heavily with Enzo in front of him, on his knees. Lucent had to handle the fire.

He often has a competition with Lucent of hair styling: he is good, but the Beldish woman is better.

He keeps many skincare products in his drawers aside from documents and files and journals.

Raffaele dislikes rats. He dislikes them so much that he screamed at the sight of one inside the Fortunata Court. It was brought in by Gemma, of course.

This boy have smooth, long, and elegant fingers. It wears many rings, too.

He still loves and misses his family. Sometimes, Raffaele wonders what his mother and five brothers are doing now.

Raffaele has olive skin despite being a northern Kenettran, as northern Kenettrans have a warm brown complexion.

Gemma Salvatore

Her height is thought to be 5'3" or 160cm. She is the shortest person in the Dagger Society.

Gemma is hinted to be pansexual, but she does not say anything about it much.

Although she loves animals, she much prefers dogs over cats. She dislikes spiders as well.

She is good at singing, especially songs with high notes.

Gemma loves to bring cats into the Fortunata Court in order to drag out the true colors of Enzo towards the felines.

She loves her father dearly. She also has a younger brother (unmarked child).

Gemma inherited her olive skin from her father, who is a southern Kenettran that moved to Estenzia. Her late mother lived in Anjon, a real Northern Kenettran.

She views Enzo as an older brother/father figure.

Lucent is her most closest friend, possibly considering her as a best friend.

Gemma is allergic to pollen. When she went to a garden of flowers and smelled its scent, she got a horrible allergy reaction.

Gemma hates animal abuse. It is enough to make her cry.

Her secret crush/love interest is Michel. But since she fears rejection, she just treats him like a friend. Only Lucent knows about this information.

She can do an intimidating stare/glare at people. Hers is so terrifying that people tremble or cower on her feet.

Her favorite food are tarts (if it does exist in the 13th century).

Her cooking is just as bad as Enzo's. Fortunately, she did not burn any kitchens.

Her favorite hobby is dancing alone to the tune of the lute.

She genuinely laughs at Enzo's horrible puns. In fact, she actually thinks they are funny.

Lucent

Back in Beldain, she has two younger sisters and a youngest brother. Overall, she is the eldest.

One of her siblings is a malfetto.

Her father died in the Blood Fever, leaving her mother to take care of the children.

Her height is thought to be 6' or 183cm, same as Raffaele's.

Because of her relationship with Maeve, it is known for everyone that she is lesbian.

She has a birthmark on her left arm, whereas her right arm is the marking.

She has a dream of being a dancer, though her dancing skills are rather poor, according to Enzo.

Lucent is very smart with mathematics, many are impressed.

Even if the death of Tristan Corrigan was an accident, Lucent blames herself deeply.

Lucent made a flower crown for Maeve twice.

She is a woman with a big bust among the Daggers. Sometimes, Gemma would ask her how they developed that way.

Her skills in hair styling is better than Raffaele. Even if she is better, Lucent does not mind a competition with the Messenger.

Lucent once used her powers to make everyone fly for fun and entertainment.

Her Beldish accent sounds Norwegian or Swedish if compared in the modern world.

Her pale skin is slightly tan. This is the result of her stay in Kenettra after Maeve's mother exiled her from Beldain.

Dante

His height is seen to be 6'3" or 191cm. He is the tallest among the Daggers.

Dante is a straight ally. Although he prefers a heterosexual relationship, he does respect those who are in the LGBTQ+ Community.

He cares for Enzo deeply, as he sees the prince as a brother. This is why he tried to convince him to get rid of Adelina.

Dante misses his parents. He is also an only-child.

Dante fell in love with Daphne. But he lets her go when he discovered that she fell in love Enzo.

Because of his muscular form, he can carry all of the Daggers at once.

He has a talent of walking with his hands and juggling.

Dante is a northern Kenettran. This means he has darker skin like Enzo's.

He hated Adelina because he realized she looks like Daphne. He knows Enzo liked her because of his former love.

Michel is his best friend, as he secretly ships The Architect with Gemma.

He is a very good listener. Whenever someone needs him, Dante is all ears as he listens to their problems and helps them fix it.

If he is muscular, then he is also heavy. This is mentioned because Dante broke a chair thrice when he just wanted to sit.

He still has the talent of blacksmithing from his apprentice training.

Dante has a huge scar on his leg. He got this when he was wounded in a battle before Daphne nursed him to health.

Among all the Daggers, Dante is the most irritated by Enzo's puns. Michel had to calm him from attacking.

Michel

Michel has an older sister and a younger brother in his family.

His height is seen to be 5'6" or 168cm.

He shyly admits that he is omnisexual to the Daggers.

He does not have a surname because he was disowned after he became marked from the Blood Fever.

He always had the talent of art when he was a child.

His feelings for Gemma developed when he saw how enthusiastic and sweet she is towards everyone. It adds when Michel sees her determination.

He and Dante are best friends in the team.

Michel has a grudge against Enzo because the prince declined the offer to be the model for his painting.

He is next to Raffaele who can cook like a professional. However, he cannot bake bread nor delicacies.

He has two books to draw on: one for his sketches and arts, the other one for NSFW content and practices.

Speaking of arts, he keeps denying the fact that he once drew Gemma on one of his parchments that was supposed to be used for studying.

When Michel found out his love interest loves tarts, he tried making one but fails miserably.

Michel has a small talent in sculpting.

Michel can speak Domaccan fluently. He learned this from his older sister and father, who both have huge interest in Domaccan culture.

In the modern world, Michel knows how to breakdance and do backflips.
