MAJOR Midnight Star spoilers under the cut

Despite the fluttering in her stomach, Maeve wasn’t nervous, not really. She sat on a tree stump near the front border of the woods, legs crossed. Absently, she ran her fingers through her hair, which was beginning to fade back to its pale blonde color. Finally, she spotted who she had been waiting for. Maeve stood.

“Maeve,” Lucent greeted breezily. Her name dripped off Lucent’s lips like honey.

“Lucent,” she stated simply, “How are you?” Maeve reached her hand out to Lucent as they walked, who threaded their fingers together like it was the easiest thing in the world.

Since the night of Adelina’s death, Maeve and Lucent had been on much better terms. It was hard, trying to return back to normal- or, more accurately, what they assumed normal was supposed to feel like. The one thing they hadn’t been able to settle between themselves was Maeve’s duty to the throne. Lucent still didn’t believe that Maeve would be able to have both her and the throne. Maeve tried her hardest to convince Lucent that she could, but Lucent wouldn’t believe her until she was proven wrong. Lucent was stubborn, but Maeve was determined. That made all the difference.

“I’m well. It’s strange, being here again,” Lucent remarks, and Maeve steals a glance at her. ‘Here’ is referring to the deep woods of Beldain. They were on some path long forgotten by everyone but the two of them. Maeve and Lucent traveled to these woods many times in their youth, and Maeve was fond of them, even now.

“I can imagine,” Maeve mused, speaking mainly to stall time. Mostly, she was focusing on following the path. She took an abrupt turn, and- there. Maeve stopped and turned to face Lucent. “Do you remember the first day we met?” She asked, taking Lucent’s other hand in hers. Lucent nodded.

“How could I forget?” Lucent replied smoothly, her dark eyes gazing deeply into Maeve’s own. Maeve continued on with her story anyway.

“My parents had sent us out together, some meaningless errand, I’m sure. They figured that since we were the same age, we would get along.

“We did, almost too well. Well enough that we deemed their task useless, and went exploring instead. We stopped here.” Maeve nodded her head to the woods surrounding them.

“We talked here for so long that my mother sent a group of guards to find us.” Maeve paused then, moving her hand from Lucent’s grasp to Lucent’s arm, tracing the fading purple marks there.

“This is also the place where I first knew that I love you.” They were close enough for Maeve to hear Lucent’s breath catch, and to Maeve, there had never been a prettier sound. “Lucent, would you allow me to be privileged enough to marry you?” Lucent’s face twisted with confusion, then darkened. “Maeve,” she uttered seriously, “You know we can’t.” A smile spread across Maeve’s face. “Oh, but we can. My brother has recently had a daughter with enough royal blood to take the throne after me. There’s no need for me to bear children anymore.” A small smile spread across Lucent’s face. She took a small step forward, closing the gap between them. Still smiling, she pressed her lips to Maeve.

Maeve didn’t think she would ever tire of kissing Lucent. Maeve’s left hand was still clutching Lucent’s, but her right hand had traveled to Lucent’s face, cupping her cheek gently. Lucent’s hand rested against Maeve’s side, warm and comforting.

When they separated, Maeve rested their foreheads together. “Is that a yes?” She asked, a hint of smugness finding its way into her voice.

“I would be honored,” Lucent murmured at last, saying the one thing Maeve had dreamed to hear since their first kiss.

“Truly,” Maeve replied, her grin widening further, “The honor’s all mine.”

A Growing List of Female Fictional Characters That I Adore (Spoiler alert)

Tessa Gray Herondale Carstairs: she transformed into a freaking angel, literally.

Catarina Loss: even Magnus Bane looks up to her. Raised a Herondale baby by herself as her own, knowing the grave punishment of her actions.

Emma Carstairs: Braved through the death of her parents and didn’t give up on the hope of getting justice for them. Would do anything to protect the Blackthorns.

Clary Fairchild: Her world was flipped upside down at the revelation of what she really was. Her transition from being clueless to one of the most badass characters is truly admirable.

Livia Blackthorn: saber-wielding badass queen who looks out for her twin brother and is BASICALLY A REBELLION LEADER IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHAHDUSHWHW. Rest in peace, Angel.

Cecily Herondale: She stayed strong for her parents at the time of her sister’s death and her brother’s abandonment. Did not stand for Will’s shit whenever he would act like she was still a child despite the fact that she single handedly slew her future father in law’s demonic worm form.

Cristina Mendoza-Rosales: she has one of the purest hearts, even Kieran saw that. She is brave and compassionate beyond words, despite the fact that she had been lied to several times by two people that she trusted greatly.

Charlotte Branwell: proved to all the men in the Clave that she is strong and absolutely fitting to head the London Institute. Became The FIRST female Consul.

Isabelle Lightwood: whip-carrying slay all day vibe 24/7. Supported Alec in his struggle to come out of the closet.

Helen Blackthorn: is being treated unfairly because of her faerie blood. Still compassionate and kind as ever.

Aline Penhallow: stood by her girlfriend's side, even during her exile to Wrangel Island. Married her, even. Suck on that, Clave.

Lily Chen: Headed the New York vampire clan at the loss of her dear friend Raphael Santiago. May act tough on the outside, but is actually very good with handling babies.

Maia Roberts: victim of racism, abused by her brother, lost her boyfriend, nearly her entire wolf pack. Came back like a bad-ass and is now the leader of the New York werewolf pack.

Ruby Daly: her transition from fearing her abilities to controlling them is empowering. Got hurt WAY TOO MANY TIMES MAN.

Vida Connor: "a charming young woman with a mouth that could give a sailor a heart attack."

Kady Grant: SPACE HACKER PRINCESS. Went through a zombies-in-space shitstorm and defeated a whole-ass battle ship by teaming up with a slightly crazy AI.

Hanna Donnelly: Heimdall’s “spoiled rich kid” wHO CAN FREAKING KICK UR ASS.

Gemma Salvatore: Our dainty fauna princess. Friendly and filled with optimism. ALSO DESERVED BETTER

Maeve Corrigan: Brave and beautiful Beldish queen who didn’t need a man to rule (bc she’s 1000% lesbian for Lucent get it?)

Lucent: Fiercely loyal, sarcastic-ass bad bitch who can sweep you off of your feet (literally and figuratively).

Emika Chen: Our rainbow-haired, tattoo cladded bounty hunter princess who is also another bad-ass hacker. Can definitely dethrone Hideo from his own game.

Hamilton Jiménez: Phoenix Riders’ stealthy thief. Extremely witty and is a loyal teammate/friend.

Alice Ulapala: literally my favorite player in the whole series. She has such a pure heart and only killed when it meant that an innocent child’s life was at stake. SHE DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER

Sarah Alopay: Cahokian princess. Although she obviously had the least training out of all the players, she could still kick their asses.

Etta Spencer: got shoved into some time traveling mess but handled herself gracefully. Stood against wrong principles, and believed in equality no matter which century she landed in.

Ella Malikova: Our little spider. Master of the art of giving nicknames. Tech savvy princess who saved the survivors of Heimdall station with her skills, fiercely loyal and protective when it comes to her family

Shari Chopra: also one of my favorite players in Endgame. Taught me that having people that you care for isn’t necessarily a weakness, but can be something you can draw strength from. She would walk through hell to protect her daughter.

Drusilla Blackthorn: was always overlooked by her family yet she does everything she can to help them in battle and at the same time heal their hearts from the loss of their sister.

I am glad that our love brings you joy.~ As for the latter question, we do indeed plan on our lives being entangled with each other’s presence to the very day our souls disappear from the universe (why did I feel like wording it like that). In fact (oh my god I think we did this in the first year of knowing each other actually) we have planned on living together till the day we’re in our eighties rocking peacefully in our rocking chairs and then death carries its way upon us and we die together, simultaneously, making dying whale noises. Which, dying whales noises are these weird as fuck noises we would make together unto which we can not do anymore and it saddens us deeply. But maybe the ability will come back when that moment comes. (I’m wording everything so weird and ridiculous forgive me)

AS FOR TYE. oh man. see….I have another fave that can be found there. In this book series. Who I barely talk about. But I love her SO fucking much. And that, my dear friend, is the god damn death quEEN, Maeve Corrigan. Do I know why I love her? Not entirely. But she could fucking kill me and I wouldn’t be mad. At all. she’S SO PRETTY TOO GOD FUCK EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO BAWL. Currently she’s the only fictional fave I have that’s a girl and just god damn. I need more girl faves tbqh. LISTEN THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT HER THAT’S JUST SO DAMN NICE. I love her. I’m happy her and Lucent are all good and dandy they loVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH THEY BOTH DESERVE IT WOW OK. altho I still kinda wanna steal her from Lucent lol so sorry orz

He’s not a fave but I love Teren. So much. I HATED HIM IN THE FIRST BOOK. I WAS ABLE TO TOLERATE HIM IN THE SECOND. AND THEN I JUST BOOM, RIGHT NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE THIRD, I WAS JUST, I LOVE THIS MAN. Teren’s a good guy I can’t I love him why’d he have to die like this is just not fair (I just had fear there wow me can you grammar). I also love Sergio tbh. Sergio’s a great guy.
