For this episode, the Grue-Crew follows actor John Cassavetes to Wisconsin to battle the shapeshifting slasher in the Canadian gem, The Incubus. The film is directed by John Hough, the director behind the Hammer film Twins of Evil (1971), the horror classic The Legend of Hell House (1973), a pair of Disney “Witch Mountain” films, and the car chase cult favorite Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974). Part Supernatural, part slasher, part Satanism, part mystery, this adaptation of Ray Russell’s 1976 novel of the same name provides plenty for the Grue-Crew to sink their teeth into.
At the time of this writing, The Incubus is available to stream with ads from Tubi and Pluto TV, as well as from multiple PPV sources. The film is available on physical media as a Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Jeff, will be Poison for the Fairies (1986), directed by Carlos Enrique Toboada and winner of four Silver Ariel Awards as well as the Golden Ariel for Best Picture and five other nominations.

2 for General, 3 for Love, and 9 for Domestic Life! For all of em!!!
[ship questions]
2. did they have an official first date? if so, what was it like?
poly lt: uhmmmm not really? some time after book 3 when they somehow manage to sit down and actually talk about whatever the hell was going on between them they have this night when they huddle up in the warehouse library and read and get drunk on this really expensive wine (or at least theo does lol) and they just talk and stuff. it's only halfway through the night when theo's like,,,tipsy and he's just like 'lol is this a date. are we on a date rn'. it was, in fact, a date. they're just stupid.
kincaid/mason: no they haven't and probably won't for a while. mason doesn't seem like the date type? and kincaids just incredibly busy all the time so they barely get time to be together as is. also as of book 3 they've barely just started dating so
beau/felix: yeah!! they got together in book 2 so actually their first date was at the carnival after everything settled down. felix almost threw up from eating so much cotton candy. it was great
3. who uses cheesy pick-up lines?
poly lt: oh god theo does and it's fucking horrible. adam has to deal with it the most lmfao since seeing him either looking like he wants to die or rolling his eyes so far they look like they're gonna get stuck like that is extremely entertaining. doesn't matter how long they've been together, theo is always gonna pull this dumb shit
kincaid/mason: neither of them really? kincaid does once every blue moon and it always takes mason a moment to realize if he's actually being serious or not. this guy's delivery to jokes is so bad you can't even tell he's joking if you haven't known him for a while lmao
beau/felix: oh you know felix does and it leaves beau a flustered mess every time lol. they're not used to this!! at all!! give them a break 😩
9. who's more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning?
poly lt: answered here ✨
kincaid/mason: probably mason but i feel like he wouldn't really insist on it. also kincaid has a really strict schedule for like. mental health reasons so messing with it can really throw him off. he does say yes sometimes cus goddamn if he's not gonna savor these moments. he's sentimental sometimes 🤷
beau/felix: both of them!!! lazy asses smh. they're just gay and also really cuddly

(Taken from this petition)
“Natasha Mckenna, a 37 year-old mother from Alexandria, Virginia living with mental illness, was murdered during a struggle with six police officers on February 3rd, 2015 while naked, handcuffed, and restrained. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression at age 14. The police departments involved were fully aware of her struggles with mental illness.
The Virginia medical examiner's office determined that her cardiac arrest was caused by 4 uses of a stun gun. No one was charged for the death of Natasha McKenna. The officer that delivered the lethal tasering, Lt. Lucas Salzman, is still gainfully employed by Fairfax County Police Department (salary of over $120k), interacting with young community members, and even posing for photo ops with female prisoners. Sheriff Kincaid has ironically recently spoken at a League of Women Voters event on destigmatizing mental illness, but has not commented on Natasha McKenna’s death outside of the conclusion of the department’s report.”

Bride Of Chucky (1998), Rated R [A beginners crash course]
WARNING: This article contains clips and photos that I do not own and are simply including to watch along with this article. NSFW CONTENT AND POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD)
(Written by Stella, edited by Jacob J.)
In the era of “semi charmed” living, the birth of Viagra, & heartthrob Leo, 1998 was also a time for some unique box office horror films.
For my first post, I want to really dive into the Don Mancini Chucky franchise. I have a history and (albeit irrational) fear of the twisted “Good Guy,” but dammit—I figured it wouldn’t really hurt to give Bride of Chucky a view for the first time.
To be fair, I did go into this without watching Child’s Play at all. If you, like me, are new to horror, let’s be honest—skipping it completely wouldn’t hurt. Let’s start by talking about the cast, shall we?
We’re joined once again by Brad Douriff (as notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray—AKA Chucky), this time with a new slate of co-stars to join him.
Jennifer Tilly as Ray’s scorned ex-lover (Tiffany Valentine),
Romeo & Juliet like lovers Katharine Heigl (Jade) and Nick Stabile (Jesse),
Their best friend (and somewhat voice of reason), David (Gordon Michael Woolvett)
Chief Warren Kincaid (John Ritter), Jade’s shitty cop dad
Lieutenant Preston (Lawrence Dane)
Norton (Michael Louis Johnston), Warren’s officer rat
From L-R: David, Jesse, Jade, Warren, and Norton. (Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998)
---------------------
To sum the film up, Tiffany Valentine sets up an officer to bring her the ripped-to-shreds “Good Guy” so she can hold a ritual to put Ray’s soul back into the body of Chucky. From then on, the film deals with commitment issues, Tiffany ending up in the body of the “bride”, and two HS teens who run away on a road trip to New Jersey when Jesse gets paid to take the (unknowingly) possessed dolls to the gravesite of Charles Lee Ray. Moreso, shit goes south very quickly when Jesse and Jade get framed for the murder spree that the dolls commit.
------------
Now to the nitty gritty of what I loved, hated, and honorable mentions of the 1hr 29min film:
(Cont)
LOVES:
1) Balance of well-timed comedic one-liners, masochism, and satisfying kills
Let’s face it—every shitty character that a film makes you hate from the get-go eventually gets what’s coming to them.
—The karma-filled death of Officer Warren. Whilst Jesse and Jade believe that Warren is not home, they pack for their little road trip. Warren shows up to plant drugs into the van, which makes Tiffany and Chucky take matters into their evil little doll hands so that their plans don’t get derailed. Tiffany lures Warren to the front of the vehicle, only for him to be met with a face full of nails ejected from opening the booby-trapped glove box.
(Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998) (If you’re curious, you can view the scene HERE)
Talk about getting NAILED, but not in the fun way HAHA
-----------
My most favorite thing about the film BY FAR? The comedic and perfectly timed one-liners.
—On the theme of masochism, after Jesse and Jade elope at one of those cheesy quick marriage chapels, they spend the night in the honeymoon suite. They meet a swinging and swindling couple who steal the $500 Tiffany left for Jesse to make the trip. Tiffany and Chucky catch the woman and sneak away to get their revenge after Jesse and Jade fall asleep. The swingers die (in a very cool, albeit horrible, way) when Tiffany throws a bottle of champagne into the voyeurism mirror above the bed, leaving the swingers a shredded bloody mess amidst pieces of now-shredded waterbed. [Pt. 1, you can view HERE.)
Valentine’s brilliance gets Chucky…“going” (look, I feel weird even typing that), and they decide to act out what every kid does with dolls when their parents aren’t looking. In the middle, Tiffany asks Chucky, “Do you have a rubber”? To which Chucky replies that he’s made of rubber. (Okay, view at own risk of ruining your childhood HERE.)
-----------------
2) Story & timeline recap and consistency
Like I mentioned in the beginning of this review, you really don’t need to watch “Child’s Play” to get the gist of this film whatsoever.
—When we’re introduced to Tiffany’s trailer home, the camera takes a brilliant panoramic stroll across a shelf of newspaper clippings that she had kept. These clippings detail the date when Charles Lee Ray (Chucky) was caught & killed, as well as the snippets of Andy telling the police that the “Good Guy” doll was responsible for the murders all the way in 1988’s first installment.
The Heart of Damballa” AKA the Amulet
—When Chucky gets back at Tiffany for keeping his doll form locked up in a wooden play-pen, he eventually escapes, electrocutes Tiff in the bathtub, and transfers her body into the bride doll that she got to give Chucky as a sick joke (will explain later on). When they’re both stuck in their new bodies, Chucky explains (as the film shows), that when Charles died, he had the amulet around his neck that transferred his soul (as seen in Child’s Play)—hence the road trip to get it so they can do the same with living potential vessels, Jesse and Jade.
[The Heart of Damballa, buried with Charles Lee Ray. (Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998)]
-------------
DISLIKES:
1) The extremely hot/cold cat-and-mouse game between Chucky and Tiffany throughout
This all stems from Tiffany finds a ring that she believed Charles had left for her after he’d been caught and gunned down. Chucky shortly informs her that she was “fuckin’ nuts” for thinking that he’d commit (hence Tiff getting set off and locking him in the pen). Sure, a couple argues here and then. But in this case, when the audience (I) think(s) that there’s a breather, they continue to pile on. I get that they’re laying out the character dynamic, but it’s a bit much. They have heartwarming moments (considering the fact that they’re serial killers), but as soon as you blink, they want to kill one another.
[Tiffany taunting Chucky after locking him in with his “bride.” (Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998)]
------------
2) THE ENDING—okay, well, specifically one piece to the finale of the film
As the police hunt for Jesse and Jade, Lt. Preston finds them at the dug-up gravesite of Charles Lee Ray. Preston then sees the evil and very much alive doll. Preston tells Jesse and Jade that the police won’t believe what’s clearly unfolding. He then gets a call and simply says (I’m paraphrasing) “Well, Jesse and Jade, they didn’t do it.”
—Honestly, it came across as anticlimactic. I would have liked to see them get further framed, because, at that point, I couldn’t stand the couple anymore. That’s just me being a cynic.
(Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998) [Preston taking a phonecall]
-----------
HONORABLE MENTION:
The soundtrack!!! As much as I love films, the first things that stand out to me about any movie are the score and licensed music that go along with them.
If you’re not familiar with the artists, the groovy/rocking/brooding musical picks fit so incredibly well with their placements within Bride of Chucky and oh so perfectly encapsulates a true throwback ‘90s film.
From SLAYER and Judas Priest to White Zombie, Blondie, etc., this album fully kicks ass and makes you feel much more immersed into the movie.
(Credit: Genius.com)
-------------------------------------------
All in all, the humor aforementioned in #1 saves the minor annoyances in this film for me. If you’re terrified of the dolls (like I was), this is the perfect “ice breaker” to start out with.
Rating: 🔪 🔪 🔪 🔪 (4 out of 10 Stabs)
Anyone still want Tiffany’s meatball recipe??
(Screencap, Bride of Chucky, 1998)

1/22/21: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." Time for another character-drawing attempt. Here again is Lt. Alan Kincaid of the Minot PD (same workplace as the earlier Det. Max Kristeva). His history is probably even more...colorful...than Max's, if that's possible; you can find his previous artwork and link to his...colorful...Toyhou.se profile HERE. This work is better than that one but now when I look at it more the forehead bugs me and I better stop looking at it too much, I guess... 😑
And yeah, I'm not too creative with men's hairstyles, but searching Google for inspiration hasn't done me any good since all it shows me is that odd "very short all around and very long on the top" style every guy apparently has now. (Well, at least according to Google.)
(EDIT, made tiny edit to background and changed link.)

pls talk more about your scottish highlander regiment ocs…… they are so enchanting.. i love the officers
anon i hope you are prepared for a lot of rambling under the cut
hello and welcome to my twisted mind.... i'll try to condense the 10k google doc of lore into something passable here. BASICALLY all of these ww1 guys are part of a web of interconnecting stories that intersect and span before/during/after the war. the main group are the four rugby boys who live in Stirling, Scotland and are drawn into the war in 1916 following the military service act...
from left to right we've got connor, james, peter, and johnny! excuse my bad handwriting but here's the jist of their dynamics. they play rugby together before everything goes to shit (peter is captain, james is the star player, johnny is stupidly reckless, and connor keeps getting into fights) a group of good guys, if a bit rowdy. they join up with the 14th Service Battalion of the Argyll & Sutherlands and spend most of the war fighting on the western front!
two old sketches of johnny and peter..... i think these r from like spring 2022? anyway i could go into more detail about their interpersonal issues but it's a lot and i feel like that could b its own post... ultimately connor gets killed taking out a stormtrooper (another oc) and peter loses a leg about a week later. james contracts influenza and gets sent home but eventually recovers, leaving johnny to finish out the war by himself. their group is definitely not the same after the war, and peter & james in particular really struggle with ptsd in the following years.
AND THE OFFICERS. WOO. aka toxic old man yaoi aka Lt Kincaide and Lt Irvine. these two spend like three full decades being catty and hating each other before they end up getting together LOL it goes something like this: kincaide is from a wealthy family, irvine is not, they meet at school and end up going to the same military academy prewar. they rly hate each other from the beginning and would probably just be petty rivals HOWEVER. irvine is sneaking around somewhere he 1000% should not be and catches kincaide in a very compromising position w another man. irvine intends to tattle but kincaide blackmails irvine into keeping quiet- irvine is there solely on scholarship and kincaide has enough social clout to ruin his military career. basically if kincaide goes down he's taking irvine with him.
that sets the stage for a decades long contentious relationship- partially bc they just keep bumping into each other. irvine obessively tries to find ways to end kincaide's career and kincaide loooooves fucking with him. individually they're very competent people- kincaide is an especially beloved officer even if he is a bit of a romantic snob, and irvine is insanely effective if a bit rigid and cold. these guys got issues on top of issues but proximity eventually leads to a healthy rivalry that becomes something like friendship that becomes basically being married. by the end of the war they are staples in each others lives but they dont get together until a decade or so after it's all over... they each take some damage during the war and spend their later years taking care of each other :')
my beloved old men. they are so fucked up. mutsache4mustache <3
there is so much i could say about them individually and the deep lore but im such a horrendous writer. also this is like a quarter of all of their stuff minus about four characters. the ideal format for this story would be a 300 chapter webcomic/graphic novel but i have neither time nor skill nor attention span for such a sprawling story so it'll just be random illustrations and blurbs in the tags. and my google docs. if any of this has interested ppl i've made a rugby boy playlist and an officers playlist bc im insane. you can get the vibes of their stories a lot better.
and uh i think thats a super rough version of these guys. anon i hope you know that i love you and this ask was so delightful to get <3

The killing of Rhonda Hinson Part 45
Former Burke County
Sheriff John McDevitt
Editor’s note: This is the continuation of a series about the Dec. 23, 1981, unsolved murder of Rhonda Hinson.
By LARRY J. GRIFFIN
Special Investigative Reporter
For The Record
That’s the $64,000 question…Did she open the door? Did someone open the door and she fell out? Did the door open when her vehicle hit the ditch?—Sheriff John McDevitt to Reporter Cheryl Bollinger [Shuffler] as reported in a News Herald article published on Sunday Sept. 2, 2001.
More than three years before John McDevitt was sworn in as the 58th sheriff of Burke County, Detective Gene Franklin proffered a reasonable answer to the first question of the tri-faceted $64,000 query raised by Mr. McDevitt in the 2001 news article published in the Morganton paper.
Four days before authoring his status report of a two-week inquiry into the killing of Rhonda Hinson, Mr. Franklin visited the office of Dr. James Croft, a local physician who had served as a medical examiner for six-years. He posed McDevitt’s first question to him: Could Rhonda Hinson have opened the door of her own accord subsequent to being fatally wounded during the early morning of Dec. 23, 1981? Of the consultation, Gene Franklin wrote in his notes that:
“After observing the photographs and reading the medical report on the cause of death of Rhonda Henson [Sic], Dr. Croft stated that in his professional opinion she made no conscious movements after the projectile entered her body. He based this opinion on the trauma caused by the bullet and the massive destruction of the heart. Dr. Croft furthered [Sic] stated that within a thirty second time frame at least a quart of blood would have rushed out of the wound in her back, and in sixty seconds she would have been deceased. Her heart may have beat [Sic] several times after the shot, but would have stopped completely ten to fifteen seconds later. Dr. Croft does not believe that Miss Henson would have been able to make a turn, change gears in her automobile, unbuckle a seatbelt, open the door to her car, or make an exit from her car. He further stated that she may have been conscious ten to fifteen seconds after the shot but would not be able to function at all.”
Within the copious case files detailing the Hinson investigation, Mr. McDevitt already had a reasonable explanation that satisfied the first facet posed: Did she open the door? In the professional opinion of Dr. James Croft—absolutely not.
According to the concluding notes of Pathologist Dorwyn W. Croom, who performed the autopsy on Rhonda Hinson at 8 a.m. on Dec. 23, 1981—approximately seven-hours after her murder—Detective John McDevitt was present during the procedure. In fact, he was the official who identified her body. Certainly he would have been aware of the extent of Rhonda’s injuries—all of which were delineated within the postmortem report. Equally, he must have read Dr. Croom’s recapitulation in which he ventured, “She [Rhonda] apparently opened the door and fell out.”
But in the early morning of Dec. 23, 1981, very few circumstances surrounding the killing of the 19-year-old were established. So, Dr. Croom ostensibly offered the only explanation available to him at the time. Fourteen years later, Dr. Croft unequivocally described the last moments of the decedent’s life and her inability to perform any task requiring motor faculties. Given the history of the case, inclusive of the sheriff’s own involvement in the early stages of the investigation, it beggars understanding as to why he would still be asking the first question of his 2001 multi-faceted query.
The second facet is equally perplexing: Did someone open the door and she fell out? Within the voluminous pages of the case’s documentation, it seems there was sufficient data to answer that second question as well—information that law enforcement possessed before 1990, some as early as the afternoon of the murder when Lt. Warlick of the Burke County Sheriff’s Department interviewed one of the passers-by of the crime scene—Reggie Smart.
Across several statements—one of which was given while under hypnosis—the late Mr. Smart said when he got to the scene he saw a dark-colored Trans-Am and another car (small Toyota, he thought) parked on the opposite side of the road from Rhonda’s car. Moreover, he described a car backed off the road, with the front portion in the highway, with headlights on, the driver’s door open, and a girl (whom he identified as Rhonda) leaning over the steering wheel. He also identified a “white male with blonde hair…standing beside the drivers [Sic] door.” In his initial Dec. 23, 1981, statement to Lt. Warlick at 1 p.m., Mr. Smart described the blonde male as six-feet tall and estimated his weight to be 170 pounds.
But Reggie Smart was not the only witness who saw Rhonda’s Datsun and a young man standing outside of the driver’s side door—another of which described him as blonde-headed. Charles Kincaid drove through the area at approximately the same time as Mr. Smart—shortly after 1 a.m.—and saw “a tall, slender young man with blonde hair, almost shoulder-length hair,” who he recollected was standing by the passenger’s side door. He even claimed to have made eye-contact with him.
Jeffrey Allison drove down Mineral Springs Mtn. Rd. and saw Rhonda’s vehicle in the ditch. Head lights on—dome light on—driver’s door open, but did not see any other vehicles or persons. However, he saw what he believed to be the top of someone’s head either on the driver’s side inside the vehicle or just outside the driver’s side.
An anonymous source contacted this writer, indicating that a great-uncle drove past the murder scene the early morning of Dec. 23. “He said he saw a vehicle off the road and assumed them to be drunk…He saw someone pulling a young girl out of the car and assumed she was drunk…He was hypnotized by someone at the department and could remember details including tag numbers.” [Note: The uncle of this anonymous source does appear in the case files housed at the Burke County Sheriff’s Department. However, The Record agreed not to release his name at this juncture.]
As previously reported, five young men were placed at the crime scene shortly after the killing of Rhonda Hinson. Mark Micol, the late Tim Pons, Todd Garrou, Jerry Baker, and Brent Smith placed themselves there through conversations with the Hinsons in 1987 and in interviews with this writer. None of their names appeared in either the official report filed by Danny Barus of the Valdese Police Department or the one submitted by Sergeant Bill Holland, the first Burke County Sheriff’s Department officer on the scene.
However, Micol and Pons were credited with discovering Rhonda’s Datsun 210 before traveling into Valdese to locate Valdese Police Lieutenant Harry Feimster. Interestingly, their names did appear in Pathologist Croom’s concluding remarks appended to Rhonda’s autopsy report: “The body was discovered next to the car at about 1:00 AM or shortly thereafter by Tim Pons and Mark Michaels [Sic] and reported to the police.”
It should be noted that neither Mark Micol nor the late Tim Pons admitted to seeing Rhonda’s body outside of her car. In the autopsy report, however, the duo is credited with discovering “her body next to the car at about 1:00 AM…” and then reported to law enforcement.
Brent Smith was the youngest of the five young men who arrived at the crime scene that early morning. “I was 19-years-old at the time,” Mr. Smith recalled during a Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, interview with this writer, who had previously conversed with Jerry Baker and Todd Garrou. “The rest of them were a little older than me—in their 20’s.”
He confirmed that he was riding in the backseat of Todd Garrou’s blue Toyota when he, Todd, and Jerry Baker happened upon the scene that early morning of Dec. 23, 1981. “We had been up to Jerry’s cabin on Mineral Springs Mountain. I went there many times—it is really a nice cabin on the inside; there was no TV, but it did have a nice fireplace. That night, we were there drinking beer and playing cards.”
Mark Micol and Tim Pons were supposed to have joined them at the cabin; however, when the two men didn’t show up; Brent, Todd, and Jerry packed-up and left.
After passing under I-40 while driving toward Valdese, the three young men spotted the Datsun 210 backed off the road into a ditch on the opposite side of Eldred Street from where they were traveling. “We saw her vehicle first; the headlights were on, I remember. As we got a little closer, Jerry Baker recognized Mark Micol and Tim Pons and Mark’s Trans-Am, and told Todd to stop—he wanted to see what was going on.”
Reluctantly, according to Todd Garrou, the trio initially stopped on the road across from Rhonda’s car, and Jerry Baker quickly exited. Todd then pulled his Toyota into the parking lot of the then Home and Garden Center to get out of the middle of the road.
“I was in the backseat and it was difficult to see what all was going-on. Jerry got out and wasn’t gone very long—seemed like a matter of seconds, really,” Mr. Smith recalled. “But when he did come back he was in a panic. Told us that somebody had been hurt, and we had to go get the police. Todd turned on his flashers, and we drove fast toward Valdese. I will never forget we were driving through town looking for a policeman, running red lights, and doing 40-45 mph—and that is really fast when you’re driving through Valdese.”
Brent Smith couldn’t remember whether or not the trio returned to the crime scene with law enforcement, Micol, and Pons, though he said they could have done so. He was, however, adamant about one detail. When told that Todd Garrou seemed to recall one police car being on the scene when they initially arrived on-site, Brent averred, “There was not a police car there already. If there had been, there would have been no need to drive into town looking for a policeman. And I remember driving through Valdese searching for one.”
In 1981—though he cannot remember the exact time frame—Brent Smith was asked to go to the Drexel Police Department to be interviewed relative to the Hinson case. Of course, he complied. Shortly thereafter—March 1, 1982—he left for the Navy and, to-date, has never been approached again by law enforcement.
Nowhere in the case files can one find an effort to reconcile the two timelines established by the young men who came through at approximately 1 a.m., and the passers-by who claimed to have seen them there. Across years of public speculation the “young man by the car” has been variously identified as the shooter or some good Samaritan who happened on the scene but left before law enforcement arrived for some unknown reason. Neither theory seems to fit, given information found within case documents.
Yet the statements and conversations involving the five young men and key witnesses who drove through the crime scene that early fateful December morn have been staring investigators in the face long before John McDevitt was elected Sheriff of Burke County.
Fast-forward to 2007, during the McDevitt Administration, when Captain Becky Weatherman—the investigator to whom the Hinson case had been assigned—and SBI Agent Marc Sharpe attended a seminar on “touch DNA”—the fingerprint people leave on items touched. According to a News Herald article written by Matthew Hensley and dated Friday Dec. 23, 2011, the two officers “stumbled on what…is probably ‘the best lead’ investigators have in the case.” The article, written four-years after the 2007 seminar, chronicled the fortuitous discovery:
“Weatherman and Sharpe realized one of the few pieces of evidence kept at the sheriff’s office, Hinson’s sweater, likely contained DNA from the person who pulled her from the car…They sent the sweater to an SBI lab and found DNA in the armpits that did not belong to Hinson.”

American conservatism? It's not very American!
Just what is it that American conservatism is supposed to conserve:
https://www.cctv.org/watch-tv/programs/americas-covenant-holy-experiment-laissez-faire
Robert Maynard
(https://whatisonthemoon.tumblr.com/post/186071810482/americas-covenant-a-holy-experiment-in-laissez)
When I went to Robert Maynard's show on American Conservatism (from the link provided in his above Post), I was struck by the mention of M. Stanton Evans in the description of the show. Robert brings up a book written by Evans titled "The Theme is Freedom". I don't think Mr. Evans and the word "freedom" should be mentioned in the same breath. My opinion stems from knowing Evans' background with William F. Buckley, the Young Americans for Freedom & the American Conservative Union:
M. Stanton Evans, was an American journalist, author and educator...As an undergraduate, Evans was an editor for the Yale Daily News...Upon graduation, Evans became assistant editor of The Freeman...The following year, he joined the staff of William F. Buckley's fledgling National Review (where he served as associate editor from 1960 to 1973)...In 1977, he founded the National Journalism Center, of which he served as director until 2002. The center sponsors young journalists getting established in the nation's capital. Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media was among those who began their careers through Evans' auspices.
Evans was present at Great Elm, the family home of William F. Buckley in Sharon, Connecticut, at the founding of Young Americans for Freedom, where, on September 11, 1960, he drafted YAF's charter, the Sharon Statement. Some conservatives still revere this document as a concise statement of their principles.
From 1971 to 1977, Evans served as chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU)...He founded the Education and Research Institute. He was the president of the Philadelphia Society, a member of the Council for National Policy, sat on the advisory board of Young Americans for Freedom, and was a trustee of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI). He was an advisor to the National Tax Limitation Committee.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Stanton_Evans
M. Stanton Evans was also the "boss" to a Unification Church member that was apparently sent "underground" (by Bo Hi Pak?) at the tail end of 1974 to work with the American Conservative Union of which Evans was the chairman (noted above). This UC member, named Gary Jarmin, must have felt privileged to work for Evans and the "type" of American conservatism being promoted by Evan's mentor, William F. Buckley.
More on Buckley later. First let's look at the documented evidence that Gary Jarmin was indeed a UC member until 1974, until he mysteriously found himself working at first at the ACU and then the "Christian Voice" a few years later:
The associates that Grant recruited to Christian Voice were young; optimistic, and staunchly conservative. But even though Grant was the only one on the leadership staff who was older than thirty, his associates already had more political experience than he had. Gary Jarmin, who became the Voice's Washington lobbyist, was a Southern Baptist whose evangelical bona fides were somewhat suspect because he had been a member of Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church until 1974 and had not completely cut his ties to Moon's organization. Though some questioned Jarmin's commitment to evangelicalism, no one could impugn his conservative credentials. He had spent most of his career in political activism, first as secretary general of Moon's Freedom Leadership Foundation, and then as a staff member of the American Conservative Union...
https://books.google.com/books?id=lqf3KBaqgI8C&pg=PA165&lpg=PA165&dq=%22american+conservative+union%22,+%22Gary+Jarmin%22&source=bl&ots=1bNPkFFFMY&sig=xkvSBpR-UntnBNuhhGlr9erlOvk&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiq0c_W5qTZAhUYwGMKHXDVB_gQ6AEIRzAH#v=onepage&q=%22american%20conservative%20union%22%2C%20%22Gary%20Jarmin%22&f=false
So "Undercover Moonie", Gary Jarmin, was squarely in what I like to call the "Buckley Network", from 1974 onwards. It is also my distinct impression or studied opinion that Gary Jarmin's former "boss", Neil Salonen, was a part of the Buckley Network before he joined the UC, which happened in 1967. Moreover, I believe Salonen was a member of Young Americans for Freedom before that fateful day when he first met the "Unified Family"...the day he knocked on the door of the "Church Center" and asked his future wife about the Church's business projects.
What was that all about?! Business projects?!. Read it here:
https://www.tparents.org/Library/Unification/Books/40Years/40Years.pdf, p.12).
Unfortunately, I can't prove these "pre-Church" associations at the present time...only speculations based on Salonen's "testimony" in 1976, reading "The Rising Tide", ect...but I am holding out on hope that Salonen's connection to former FBI "Agent" Herb Philbrick will reveal the evidence I'm looking for. Philbrick left a "Special Collection" that I still need to research, and hopefully that will happen in the not-so-distant future.
Now, back to William F. Buckley. To review, this is the man that mentored M. Stanton Evans, who in turn would be the boss of Undercover Moonie, Gary Jarmin...And I haven't mentioned yet, that Buckley would invite Salonen to his "Firing Line" show (in 1977), where the two looked very comfortable sitting next to each other:
https://digitalcollections.hoover.org/images/Collections/80040/80040_s0262_trans.pdf, p. 2
And lest we forget that Evans is also the man Robert Maynard has mentioned in his talk about American conservatism. So with that, let's look at an excerpt from a long article that will reveal pertinent information on the background of Buckley, and what his "network" is truly trying to accomplish:
In the United States, it is the political faction represented by Undersecretary of State for Security Assistance James Buckley and NATIONAL REVIEW publisher William F. Buckley, together with some members of such groups as the East Side Conservative Club and Gotham Club, which functions today as the principal controllers of Malmo International terrorism. The Buckley's have inherited this role from the Dulles family; John Foster and Allen Dulles used their respective positions as Secretary of State and Director of Central Intelligence to incorporate elements of the Malmo International into U.S. cold-war operations...They also drew upon lifelong ties to the financial interests that put Hitler in power and upon Allen Dulles' fellow Office of Strategic Services veterans to mount major private intelligence operations using the Malmo International...
The Buckley family and certain of their friends in the East Side Conservative Club are among the inheritors of these Malmo International networks. In 1976, the year when the last major activation of these Nazi networks occurred, a grid of the travels of William F. Buckley and Lt.-General Vernon Walters (now Haig's personal briefer), placed these two in every major terrorist hotspot: Greece, where the same Paladin fascist networks involved in the assassination of CIA officer Richard Welch set out to destabilize the Karamanlis government immediately after their arrival; the Caribbean, where, as the Buckley-Walters visit occurred, Orlando Bosch's Cuban terrorist group CORU bombed an Air Cubana flight, killing 77 passengers; Chile, where they met with officials of the Chilean junta and the DINA, its secret police arm; Spain, where Buckley used a meeting of Otto Hapsburg's European Documentation Center (EDCI) as cover to meet with participants at an earlier Paris meeting of the World Anti-Communist League to give them final marching orders for a wave of assassinations and bombings that followed in Spain, France, and Italy by Nazi and anti-Nazi groups; and, the United States, where acquaintances of the Buckley family in the Movimiento Nacional Cubano, an affiliate of CORU and WACL, carried out the assassination of former Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier with backing from the DINA.
https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1982/eirv09n15-19820420/eirv09n15-19820420_028-allen_dulles_william_buckley_and.pdf
For those that have been following the "Blogs" over the years, you know that Ray Cline & John Singlaub are a couple of "OSS Veterans" that would indeed be apart of highly covert "Private Intelligence Networks", and let us remember their connections to the Moon Organization as well, especially through the World Anti-Communist League (WACL).
As for the Letelier Assassination, that is a major "sore spot" for me, and should be for any UC member past or present. In declassified FBI documents and at the National Archives in Washington D.C., there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Sun Myung Moon & Bo Hi Pak (closely connected to Alexander Haig, mentioned above), were involved in some way with this assassination and/or its aftermath (the subsequent trial of the alleged murderers, ect.). I will address that, another day.
And just to leave you all with a little question...is the fact that the Young Americans for Freedom was founded on 9/11 a coincidence?...or is there a Nazi Occult meaning behind it? Let your mind open up to the possibility, I say.
'til the next,
Don Diligent

7/22/19: Getting ahead of myself...I decided to try drawing one of my Minot characters, whose faces famously elude me...since I picture her a tad bit better than characters like Lt. Kincaid or Det. Kristeva, I decided on Det. Michelle "Mike" Rosedale. Here's a VERY VERY tentative sketch. As expected, I didn't get the hair quite right (she doesn't have bangs, so much as stray locks of hair that tend to fall in her face), but this was just to see if I could draw SOMETHING not horrendously cringeworthy...and to be honest...I'm not completely repelled by her. Amazing. Wish this'd happen more often.
I wasn't going to give her irises/pupils. It's just a thing of mine, that the drawing isn't "finished," doesn't have a soul, and can't look back at me cringing at how awful it is, if the eyes aren't completed...I can't really explain it except to say I've had similar issues with real people's eyes, making eye contact, the eyes on toys and posters, etc., that if I can't see them then they can't see me...but since Rosedale's perpetually haunted/pained/angry stare is such an important part of her character and appearance (and she has plenty of good reason to look that way)...I drew in the eye parts. Didn't clean up all the mess around them so she looks rather sleep deprived and insane, but like I said it's rough still. Had to leave some edges on it so it doesn't pass as finished.
I'll probably hate it in the morning. 😐
(You can read about Rosedale here. And see the awesome art someone gifted me of her! 😊 )

[Bal/Crys] LFRP: A’kini Khotan
★ GENERAL INFORMATION ★
Name: Kini [Full Name: A’kini Khotan; Nickname: Little Bur] Gender: Female Age: 20 Race: Miqo’te, Seeker of the Sun Birthplace: Near the Rothlyt Sound, east of the Black Shroud Current Residence: Homeless. Relationship Status: Single Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Occupation: None currently, but will try doing most anything if it means gil, goods, etc.
★ PHYSICAL APPEARANCE ★
Hair: A light blonde that shifts to a slight strawberry hue towards the ends. Eyes: Light blue Height: 4′8″ Distinguishing Marks: A thin grazed scar that passes over her right eye (marking the brow and just the top of her cheek) and a short, claw-like scar near the right side of her jawline. Common Accessories: A solid rose gold bangle around her left ankle with a tiny jingle bell attached to it. Otherwise due to her lack of funds, Kini will once and awhile try to collect ribbons to help her appearance. It isn’t uncommon for her to have them tied into her hair or somewhere upon her person for a splash of color.
★ PERSONALITY & TIDBITS ★
Kini was groomed to support her sibling and due to such an upbringing, she finds herself lost and indecisive without another’s direction. Despite her codependency issues, she is a vibrant individual who feels her best when she’s proven useful. Curious, energetic, meticulous and a bit resilient in her own way, A’kini Khotan is a wandering soul unsure of her own purpose.
Talents: Supportive magic (Minus healing), sensing magic, observant Weakness: Lacks physical strengths, gullible, deafness in her right ear, pushover Religion: The Twelve Alignment: Neutral, but unsettled and shifts depending on who she is with. Morally confused!
★ HOOKS ★
Only looking for LT connections please, but of any kind!
✩ Easy Target - Kini is relatively new to the lands beyond her tribe and is a bit out of her element. This in combination with her personality could make her a target for those looking to prey on others. Perhaps your character decides to use her as a distraction, talk her into helping with an “odd” job or any number of other things! ♠ A Pick-me-up - Perhaps your character appeared down on their luck or like they could use a boost? While she doesn’t haphazardly throw support magic about, if she feels like someone truly could use it (or she’s asked) then Kini wouldn’t blink at providing assistance. It could be as simple as assisting someone struggling to lift a large crate or a more complex scenario! ✩ The Little Bur - Kini accepts hand outs or good will, but she usually feels very compelled to return them. A little bit of food might find your character being tailed by A’kini as she looks for a way to repay what was offered to her. A splash of kind attention will have her keeping a look out for the same familiar face. She is also very easy to hire if someone extends a job or a task to her. Kini is always eager to be useful to someone however she can! ♠ Insert Brainstorm Here - Bad guys? Good guys? Friends? Not-so-friends? There are plenty more ideas to brainstorm up and Kini is open and friendly enough to bumble into plenty of scenarios, establishments and individuals! Definitely antagonist friendly. ✩ Always open to more ideas! General or specific, hit me up with anything.
★ OOC INFORMATION ★
Genres: Dark, Mature, Adventure, Action & Drama tend to be my favorite genres! I favor serious themes and conflict, gore, adult themes, etc are okay so long as it fits the characters. Length: 1-3ish paragraphs in-game, but honestly it’ll depend on the situation! If RP happens on Discord, it can be longer depending on the scenario and my mood. Quality over quantity though! Server: Balmung Timezone: EST Availability: In-game: anytime after 6/8 PM. Discord: I check Discord throughout the day! Contact Information: @claihn via Tumblr, Lain#0004 on Discord Other: I consider myself a pretty friendly, understanding and flexible individual. All I ask is for good communication so we’re on the same page when it comes to schedules or plot ideas! Also I am most interested in in-game RP at the moment, but can make exceptions for Discord. I just find Discord RP tends to go slowly if it’s posted at leisure, which can make plots fizzle out.
Thank you for your time! If A’kini doesn’t catch your interest- Kincaid & Mana are also active!
