if i can be honest here this is really one of my least favourite parts of the way the romances are written. the idea that you can only really fall in love once (and both the related ideas that, if this love is real, then every other relationship you've had must not have really been love and that, if you have been in love before, your previous love somehow cheapens the current love) is so completely juvenile. it's the kind of line of thought you'd expect to see in a young adult novel marketed exclusively to 12- to 16-year-olds for whom every emotion feels like the most intense, ultimate feeling they could ever have, and who do not yet have the life experiences to understand (or appreciate) the complexities of love. "i've only ever loved this one person this way, every other feeling i've thought was love has just been a poor imitation" is a pretty thought but is ultimately a fantasy (and one that i, personally, find incredibly disrespectful towards people who have been in love and then fall in love again).
it would be one thing if this idea was espoused by only one of the characters. if only n (just as an example) bought into the idea that only one love can be your true love, then that would say something about n's character, their romantic and life history, the way they view and interpret the world, etc. but instead all of the ros seem to follow this line of thought - they've all never been in real love before, if they and the detective broke up they'd never experience this kind of love again, they're all soulmates, etc. and in that way this idea is not a characterization choice for particular characters, but an idea perpetuated by the work as a whole. and in my (biased and personal) opinion, it's a childish and unrealistic idea.
#i have many many personal little bones to pick with wayhaven. my own hills to privately die on. and this is one of them#except i'm doing it publicly#and to be clear: there's nothing universally wrong with young adult novels for 12-16 year olds. some of them are very good#but if you know the kind of book i mean then You Know#'your vampire romance is unrealistic? fork found in kitchen' yea well this requires more suspension of disbelief than the vampirism#and is representative of an ideology that is personally repellant to me đ#if this doesn't make sense it's because it was written quickly and barely edited. peace and love on planet post xoxo

I'm not able to fully respond to anyone right now, in the event I post something, it's with the intent of just removing it out of my drafts.
But I'd like to let the anon who sent their very long, honest, heartfelt, and overall very moving ask that I have received it and that my askbox, thankfully, didn't gobble up such a wonderful message. I'd like to give you a proper and equally heartfelt response when I am able my dear anon <3 along with other thoughtful asks sent on this blog or the other.
#i will still be quiet for some time now. But i will be gorging out a lot of things (mostly short crackposts) from my drafts come the next f#-ollowing days. I may look active but these will be qued items. So sorry to everyone who sends me messages and stuff! I'm not online yet.#And I am quite okay too. I've just had a lot of stuff going on in real life. all happening within the span of a past few months.#if i do post here. i reckon it's with the purpose of just uploading maybe one fic from time to time and leaving again.#I may not interact as well during that bit as I'll be logging off immediately after uploading. Like those err silent author things heh.#so if you send an ask.. especially a very lovely one and I do not respond- please know that I'm not at all ignoring it.#and it might even be an ask I've screenshot and keep with me.. holding it dear like a sentimental letter that I read from time to time.#but if you're reading this- thank you for sticking around :))! Can I just say that the scariest thing about a scary movie is people screaming.
Had a mini movie party and we were watching Before I Wake, and it was just me my husband and 6 friends. And it really wasnât that scary. But every time something freaky happened they were all screaming and one specific friend was literally bouncing off my walls. She never sat down, she was always either pacing around or she was sitting like a frog so she could start running when something creepy happened. Girl ran into a door at one point, and then another time she literally bellyflopped onto the floor, and then there was quite a while before another âscaryâ scene, and she literally jumped so high and flopped onto me, my husband, and her fiancĂ© and started screaming.
I was doing fine like it wasnât that bad at all but when she was running around being a little monster because she doesnât do very well with creepy movies, she makes everyone else freak out, and then I feel stupid for laughing at them because Iâm supposed to be screaming and crying too because itâs a sad and creepy movie, but Iâm not because I think itâs hilarious when theyâre all screaming because of the one friend who canât hold still.
I have to throw scary movie parties more often because I havenât been this entertained in a long time đ€Ł
#no offense to the one friend#i love you with all my heart#I just think itâs very funny#before i wake#scary movies#scary#scary stuff#halloween#horror movie#horror#thriller#suspense#canker man#cancer man#everybody dies in their nightmares#nightmare

sometimes i really cannot get over how fantastic some of the layouts and the art by gene colan is sometimes his layouts get a little Too playful for good reading but god when it's good it's great. so damn good I HAVE TO GET BACK TO 70SDEVIL. but god. just fanfuckingtastic work truly i say nothing new but well i can add forever to the admiration. so stellar
#static.soundz#i think more ppl should give earlier comics a shot for if nothing else the art alone. there really is a lot of talent and skill in it.#which maybe sounds stupid to say but it really is fun to watch as already good art starts to really sophisticate itself.#as layouts get more thoughtful and creative when screentone gets further incorporated when the action gets further considered ugh. UGH!#soooo wonderful. so fun. truly one of the biggest delights of v1 reading so far has been watching this comic sophisticate itself#while still being very much playful silly comics. which sounds silly to say maybe. bc as much as i love the Serious Hero Storyline#cape comics should always remember inherently there is this big playful suspension of disbelief involved#bc these are ppl runnin around in skin tight suits with villains with silly names. but they make it work and it's fun. so fun#god i love comics!!!! i love superhero comics!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is probably also why so many booktok/bookstagram-famous books are (imo as an avid âactualâ reader) shitty? As in âbooks written by 13 year olds on Wattpad make more sense and are written betterâ-shitty.
Iâm not going bash people for liking to read or fantasise about toxic relationships, you do you. I donât like it, so I donât read it.
But I have no idea how people could stick around for an entire book of objectively bad & inconsistent writing and like it, without doing this parapgraph skipping/ only reading dialogue thing (aka not actually reading).

Do they know that reading is not mandatory? Nobody is forcing them to read?
#The horrifying alternative would be that people unironically love reading sentences like âwe laughed at our sonâs big ballsâ#and being perfectly fine with an inconsistent âchonic illnesâ (that the author also has) only popping up when it makes the mc interesting#but not when it would actually negatively affect her#Suspension of disbelif is one thing.#but for the entire premise of a book?#It also feels like most of the MCs in these books are flatter than week-old soda & have to be Very Special Princesses not by their own right#but because Sheâs The Universeâs Favourite Princess. Usually there is boting special about her skillset or ambition.#sheâs just born bettter than everyone else.#(eg getting 2 fated dragon instead of 1 like a normieâ being turned into a fae even if that doesnât make sense)#And while Iâm usually against gatekeeping/ calling people âposerâ#this seems like a good time to gatekeep and call people poser.#especially when theyâre treating bookishness like an aestetic.

another thing fantasy writers should keep track of is how much of their worldbuilding is aesthetic-based. it's not unlike the sci-fi hardness scale, which measures how closely a story holds to known, real principles of science. The Martian is extremely hard sci-fi, with nearly every detail being grounded in realistic fact as we know it; Star Trek is extremely soft sci-fi, with a vaguely plausible "space travel and no resource scarcity" premise used as a foundation for the wildest ideas the writers' room could come up with. and much as Star Trek fuckin rules, there's nothing wrong with aesthetic-based fantasy worldbuilding!
(sidenote we're not calling this 'soft fantasy' bc there's already a hard/soft divide in fantasy: hard magic follows consistent rules, like "earthbenders can always and only bend earth", and soft magic follows vague rules that often just ~feel right~, like the Force. this frankly kinda maps, but I'm not talking about just the magic, I'm talking about the worldbuilding as a whole.
actually for the purposes of this post we're calling it grounded vs airy fantasy, bc that's succinct and sounds cool.)
a great example of grounded fantasy is Dungeon Meshi: the dungeon ecosystem is meticulously thought out, the plot is driven by the very realistic need to eat well while adventuring, the story touches on both social and psychological effects of the whole 'no one dies forever down here' situation, the list goes on. the worldbuilding wants to be engaged with on a mechanical level and it rewards that engagement.
deliberately airy fantasy is less common, because in a funny way it's much harder to do. people tend to like explanations. it takes skill to pull off "the world is this way because I said so." Narnia manages: these kids fall into a magic world through the back of a wardrobe, befriend talking beavers who drink tea, get weapons from Santa Claus, dance with Bacchus and his maenads, and sail to the edge of the world, without ever breaking suspension of disbelief. it works because every new thing that happens fits the vibes. it's all just vibes! engaging with the worldbuilding on a mechanical level wouldn't just be futile, it'd be missing the point entirely.
the reason I started off calling this aesthetic-based is that an airy story will usually lean hard on an existing aesthetic, ideally one that's widely known by the target audience. Lewis was drawing on fables, fairy tales, myths, children's stories, and the vague idea of ~medieval europe~ that is to this day our most generic fantasy setting. when a prince falls in love with a fallen star, when there are giants who welcome lost children warmly and fatten them up for the feast, it all fits because these are things we'd expect to find in this story. none of this jars against what we've already seen.
and the point of it is to be wondrous and whimsical, to set the tone for the story Lewis wants to tell. and it does a great job! the airy worldbuilding serves the purposes of the story, and it's no less elegant than RyĆko Kui's elaborately grounded dungeon. neither kind of worldbuilding is better than the other.
however.
you do have to know which one you're doing.
the whole reason I'm writing this is that I saw yet another long, entertaining post dragging GRRM for absolute filth. asoiaf is a fun one because on some axes it's pretty grounded (political fuck-around-and-find-out, rumors spread farther than fact, fastest way to lose a war is to let your people starve, etc), but on others it's entirely airy (some people have magic Just Cause, the various peoples are each based on an aesthetic/stereotype/cliché with no real thought to how they influence each other as neighbors, the super-long seasons have no effect on ecology, etc).
and again! none of this is actually bad! (well ok some of those stereotypes are quite bigoted. but other than that this isn't bad.) there's nothing wrong with the season thing being there to highlight how the nobles are focused on short-sighted wars for power instead of storing up resources for the extremely dangerous and inevitable winter, that's a nice allegory, and the looming threat of many harsh years set the narrative tone. and you can always mix and match airy and grounded worldbuilding â everyone does it, frankly it's a necessity, because sooner or later the answer to every worldbuilding question is "because the author wanted it to be that way." the only completely grounded writing is nonfiction.
the problem is when you pretend that your entirely airy worldbuilding is actually super duper grounded. like, for instance, claiming that your vibes-based depiction of Medieval Europe (Gritty Edition) is completely historical, and then never even showing anyone spinning. or sniffing dismissively at Tolkien for not detailing Aragorn's tax policy, and then never addressing how a pre-industrial grain-based agricultural society is going years without harvesting any crops. (stored grain goes bad! you can't even mouse-proof your silos, how are you going to deal with mold?) and the list goes on.
the man went up on national television and invited us to engage with his worldbuilding mechanically, and then if you actually do that, it shatters like spun sugar under the pressure. doesn't he realize that's not the part of the story that's load-bearing! he should've directed our focus to the political machinations and extensive trope deconstruction, not the handwavey bit.
point is, as a fantasy writer there will always be some amount of your worldbuilding that boils down to 'because I said so,' and there's nothing wrong with that. nor is there anything wrong with making that your whole thing â airy worldbuilding can be beautiful and inspiring. but you have to be aware of what you're doing, because if you ask your readers to engage with the worldbuilding in gritty mechanical detail, you had better have some actual mechanics to show them.
#finx rambles#worldbuilding#for writers#honestly I quite liked the asoiaf books I read#it's a well-constructed story! it's a well-constructed world too on its own merits#none of this stuff about grain and spinning is actually important to the story#the problem is that grrm himself seems to just. not realize this#and goes about blithely insisting he's created an extraordinarily realistic fantasy world where all the tax policies make sense#he has not!#he has invited people to tear his creation apart if they can and! it turns out! they absolutely can!#this shit's got no tensile strength! it's made of glue and popsicle sticks!#you're not supposed to put weight on it

Heâs Married?!
Summaryâ Oscar brings a baby to track and hides the fact itâs his while his wife deems they should tell the world about them
Warningsâ secret relationship ; secret baby
A/Nâ I started writing this and went off-topic but I kept going and couldnât stop myself đ (streamer is sort of like this as well just Lando based)
Oscar One Shots

Dividers @bernardsbendystraws @dollywons
Requestâ hihi, if possible could you do a oscar piatri fic, in which he married young and forgot to mention it, and the grid finds out (ive read a few fics with this plotline and im in love) -đ€ @fctnllvrs
Oscar was very closed off, meaning absolutely no one expected him to arrive at the paddock with a baby carrier. He doesnât even have a girlfriend or hookups or even a wife?!
âMate who got you baby sitting on media day?â Lando joked lightheartedly. Oscar flushed a pink color and laughed it off.
âNot too good of an idea, huh?â He joined Landoâs banter hoping to ward off the âitâs actually my kid and Iâve been married since F2â conversation.
Oscar went about his day, holding the little boy and doing his duties while simultaneously keeping up with the infants needs.
His wife insisted he take the boy for the day, she needed to catch up at home and it was the Australian Grand Prix. Oscarâs mum insisted she stay behind and help with organizing and cleaning up the house with Oscarâs wife.
The reporters were intrigued and asked him questions as well. âWhoâs this little one?â Lawrence Baretto asked. Oscar smiled and held his baby boy to show the camera.
âThis is Arlo.â Oscar said before returning his son to his chest where the baby sighed contentedly into him. No more questions followed but media had their suspicions.
Socials were no help at all to any fans or media stalkers, Oscar and his wife kept a low private social life. They never officially announced their wedding nor first born anywhere other than texts between families.
Oscar returned to his driver room and started getting Arlo ready for a nap, meaning changing the little boys diaper. If there was one thing the baby absolutely despised, it was getting changed.
There were loud cries and screams as Oscar did so, trying to keep the boy calm. âSuch big feelings little man, itâs okay.â He soothed, rubbing the boys tummy when he was done. âShhh daddyâs got you, itâs alright.â Now that Arlo was dressed and back on Oscar chest, he was calm and no longer a screaming, crying mess.
Oscar did slip up and call himself daddy though, hoping the scream died that out. Until Lando walked in quietly, shutting the door behind him. His face of pure shock and disbelief.
âSorry, just trying to get him to sleep for a little.â Oscar said quietly with a few nods. Landoâs face softened at the little boy droopy eyed on Oscarâs chest.
âWhy didnât you tell me sooner?!â Lando whisper yelled, stirring the little one. âIâm sorry little man.â He apologized looking to Arlo after he flinched at Landoâs little shouting.
âTell you what?â Oscar asked, puzzled. He didnât realize Lando walked in on him saying âdaddyâs got youâ so heâs left out of the loop.
âThat Arlo is yours! Mate do you even have a girlfriend?â Lando asked, still quiet as for no one else to hear. âOscar this is fucking huge! Youâve been flaunting him all day too.â
âLanguage and no I donât have a girlfriend.â Oscar said to build suspense. Lando looked stressed at that comment. âI have a wife, who was overwhelmed at the mess from looking over him 24/7.â He smiled watching Lando relax.
âGod mate youâre insane, how long?â Lando chuckled. He looked to Arlo as a nephew now, the sweet little boy sleeping on Oscarâs chest now a part of the McLaren family.
â4 years next month.â Oscar said looking as if he had to think about it. âYes, I know. I donât regret marrying her though.â Lando softened, why had Oscar kept this all a secret for so long?
âSecrets safe with me, but media is going to start speculating little Arlo here.â Lando reminded. Oscar nodded. He knew the risks and felt there wasnât much need to hide it all anymore.
The day was done and Oscar went home to his wife and mum, a tidy home with barely any evidence that a newborn had taken over.
âHow was track today? Was Arlo good?â His wife asked, scooping the newborn from his carrier. Arlo immediately relaxed in his mums hold.
âGood, I mean media is on my ass and Lando knows about us.â Oscar said casually. She hadnât cared much about keeping it all a secret but she also didnât want to push Oscar into it. âI was getting Arlo ready for a nap, you know how he is and when I went to calm him down Lando heard me call myself daddy so.â He laughed.
âHe wonât tell anyone?â She asked, curious on Landoâs secrecy on things. âI know you trust him.â
âYeah I mean I donât see any threats of him just blatantly saying it or anything, itâs only a matter time people find out.â Oscar shrugged.
âWell if you want to do it before he accidentally does, we have hospital or maternity photos you could post.â She smiled, slightly joking. Oscar smiled with her and kissed her head.
âThe house looks amazing by the way, you and mum did a good job tidying up.â He praised the cleanliness of the house that was once a mess. âIâll send some pictures over to my media manager to post tomorrow before practice.â
She was going to be present for the race, but not the extras before. Arlo would not fare well with the long hours of sitting around in an unfamiliar place with loud noises.
Like Oscar said, scheduled posts from the hospital were posted the next day before he arrived at track. Him, his wife, and baby Arlo in their arms while cozied in a hospital bed widespread like wild fire.
Questions galore from reporters, congratulations from other drivers and shock from finding out the last 5 years were kept secret. Headliners read âFind out which McLaren driver kept wife and child under wraps for nearly 5 yearsâ or âPapaya driver released surprising post of familyâ insanity flooded his phone.
The race day was even more overwhelming, fans and reporters hounding on his wife and Arlo now. Oscar was not having that. âGive them space, back up!â He said annoyed at the proximity of the people. His wife found a comfortable place in the garage where no one would bother her too much and Oscar checked in on her.
âWeâre fine Osc, go do your McLaren stuff!â His wife insisted. She knew he had lots to do before a race, but he only seemed concerned on her and Arlo.
âCan I hold him before I have to go out?â Oscar asked. It was 30 minutes until he had to be in his car. She nodded and handed the boy over. âSuch a sweet, loving boy.â He cooed. âIâm going to win my home race, just for you and Mama.â He whispered. He kissed the babyâs forehead and handed him back. He gave his wife a kiss as well and headed to his car on the grid.
Iâm just getting over a sinus infection so apologies for being inactive.

I just got a new job and Iâm relieved by how much I like it so far.
#positive post :D#positive personal post#I quit my last job after a big ole situation with the new manager#namely within her first week I couldnât handle her attitude and lack of doing work#so I wrote a very long detailed message to her on all the ways sheâs messed up and needs to improve#then I got suspended for a week (understandable no shade to hr for that one; only shade to the manager for being too cowardly to face me!)#then I considered coming back but the owner somehow thought a solution to this problem was ask if I wanted to work at a different location#because âobviously you need the moneyâ#D:<#MAAM#I got my second to last check and quit that same day#the final day of my suspension#but within that time Iâd applied to and interviewed at 2 places already#and by the time I grabbed my actual last check Iâd gotten the job AND one with a pay increase#(and also better benefits and healthier work culture)#Iâve also only worked a total of 4 legit shifts plus the orientation shift#and itâs honestly telling that thatâs all it took for me to fall in love#theyâve also been shortened training shifts to get me settled#and divided between 2 actual jobs: line cook and to-go#which weâve all agreed I can do both as long as Iâm comfortable#and I am!#everyone is so nice!#anyway#long story short#Iâm really happy that my new job seems to be working out :)#and on top of that my boyfriend is also getting a newer better job#that way we both can have left the same toxic workplace#so yaaaaaaay

This show taught me what Cthulhu was without giving me nightmare fuel and that is super beautiful to someone like me who loves mythology and spooky shit, but has no spoons for any more nightmare fuel than my brain is already naturally producing.

Here are a couple of pics from the original Billy & Mandy Bible that I found. The whole thing (including roughs) is on my Patreon. The original outline is up there too.
Eris was there the whole time! :o
I'm also still selling B&M (and other) stuff on eBay. There are original concept pieces, character art, comic pages, cels, VHS, DVDs, and other fancy stuff.
Support flesh and bone artists! đ€đ€đđ€đ€
#new conspiracy theory hulu is short for cthulhu and the old one has you if you watch it#I loved this show so much#I love that Eris was in the original concept for the show so much#I love skulls#and#magic#bats#witches#but also#can't handle any horror#thriller#or suspense#like at all#my eidetic memory makes that very hard

one of the things i love the most about dsmp is the fact that no one has the same version of it. the most obvious example is which streamer's POV you watched, but it goes way beyond that because mcrp requires a level of suspension of disbelief and also of filling in the gaps, fleshening things out, in order to make it usable for fancontent.
for example, the fact that apart from the minecraft skin there is no actual guideline for how to see the characters, hence the dsmp creaturification of fan designs we've been over a million times. but it's not just that!!
the fandom also has so many different relations to time in the dsmp. some take the canon timeline but then you run into problems like c!fundy's age â so then either he's actually a 20 year old that c!wilbur adopted and treats like a baby, or perhaps fox hybrids have a very abrupt exponential growth spurt, or perhaps l'manberg wasn't a few months but a few years!
and then this brings into question the matter of scale â how populated is the server? is it truly only the actual streamers/characters, and so when we talk about a "war" do we really just mean like 10 people fighting each other with swords? or perhaps there's a couple dozen, unnamed, background characters? and i've seen people increase the scale even more! make l'manberg a real, albeit obviously small and budding, country-city of a few hundred inhabitants, that perhaps grows into a lifesize scale fortified city during new l'manberg.
and then everything takes on such a different tone. if theres 30 people on the server, the final control room was a betrayal and destruction of friendships, november 16th was the grief and anger for a friend and the symbolic destruction of the country, and doomsday was another symbolic show of whose alliances everyone values, and the weariness of having to rebuild it. if there's a few thousand people? all of those were massacres.
how can we even be talking about the same characters when for some of us the worst they've done is blow up some houses with no cost of lives, and for others they have razed to the ground actual nations? depending on how you read it and how much you flesh it out, dsmp is either mainly about symbols and interpersonal relationships, or it can be some game of thrones shit. it's completely fucking mental. i'm so in love with it

That finale's Nam-soon makes me think she's actually a long lost child of Moon and Bong...
#strong girl nam soon#she's got the craziness of em both; huh...they'll end up like Okey-Dokey's parents...Ok-hui and Yong-myeong are more like the Capn and aunt#Si-o became the lovechild of the worst that was ever dealt to KSW and Moon storywise and Do Kang-woo and Dr. K (seriously)#nah the ending landed not at all; I really don't get why not just have had the mom be the MC batwoman from the start versus dear Ppang#the story was wayyy more about them anyway to the point of neglecting a lot of what was really important (the grandmother's grew on me tho)#although I don't get how nobody gets about nam-soon nd hee-sik; they're non-toxic and mutual and on the same page#ironically most ppl objected to Moon nd Bong on the grounds it's toxic nd one-sided(and I can't figure out the writer but platonic is his#version of ScullyXMulder) but it just boils down to Hee-sik nd Moon not having a real backstory to make foil/parallel connections(?) with F#in byt at least the two do have the true gold- old school bickering chemistry...i really don't get story choices sometimes#civillians wreaking havoc with police while investigating; asking too much out suspension of disbelief; woobifieds death#putting the ML on the backburner; too many sideplots too few resolutions....#unnecessary and easily avoidable love triangles; 'love is deadly'- only Heesik escaped(kindof*) Moon went 180deg characterwise w/infatuatio#and made worst choices RSO and KSW were doomed by it#*the whole forcing the idea of tradition to have a child so young was very uncomfortable with Heesik who shouldv meet Min-hyuk nd talked

So one thing led to another, and Iâve just paid a visit to the first (that we know of) confirmed Good Omens S3 filming locations. Due to the obvious sensitivity of this material, please tag it accordingly and share only with the fans consenting to know potential spoilers.

A fellow Good Omens fan has mentioned that residents of a certain Edinburgh area had unexpected guests recently, knocking on their door and telling them they are filming in their street soon. Imagine their surprise when a polite question about the details led to the offhand answer: âIT'S ONLY GOOD OMENSâ.
For those unaware, the City of Edinburgh Council has been working really hard on promoting the city for film and TV industry for a few years now (the effects of which we saw in S2), and has a set of very clear and very publicly available guidelines regarding the modus operandi here.
The Good Omens production has both large scale and a high impact on a specific location due to the crew size, amount of technology used, and requirement for crowd control in most of the exterior and interior scenes (e.g., bookshop, pub, or coffee shop windows), which is why not only the local authorities, but also residents were informed about the filming with an at least 8 days notice:

Ironically, I just had happened to have a trip here planned and a hotel booked within walking distance to the locations on the attached TM and parking plan map, so it would be a waste not to use this opportunity for the greater good of the fandom. Canât stay long enough to see the actual crew, so unfortunately the hair photos will have to be made by someone else. Disappointing, I know. But thereâs still a lot to be excited about!
According to the provided notice, the filming will happen within one working day with the required set-up planned for the day before, mostly in the afternoon hours. The attached map shows planned parking suspension and SYL dispensation on two streets close to the chosen locations, which is where the trailers and equipment vehicles will park:

Location One turns out to be, rather surprisingly, a cosy corner bookshop. The shop â one of the Edinburghâs oldest surviving secondhand bookstores â is very small, but crammed with a wide ranging library of beautiful books to serve readers and collectors, including antiquarian true first editions and signed copies.
Itâs giving Murielâs sweet and whimsical charm, but the bits and pieces of the unpublished Good Omens sequel point out not towards Whickber Street, where the angel currently resides, but more towards a new in-universe location. Maybe one that will be opened in the future post-Second Coming, maybe one that will remind one of the characters about a home base of operations back in the heart of Londonâs Soho (and theirsâ wait, who said that?).
Notice that the road closure includes north and south sides of the pavement visible in the last photo, so both indoor and outdoor shots could be expected:

Location Two seems a bit more complex, since itâs basically a skewed triangle consisting of one longer street and a short side street diverging from it. Conveniently for the filmmakers, the architecture here is uncharacteristic enough that it could be easily presented as British, Scottish, or even American. Iâm personally a bit partial to the last option since it would make sense story- and budget-wise, especially now with the two people previously adamant on shooting the US scenes only on location there not on the production team anymore.

The contrasting structures and materials visible here easily offer background for multiple potential contexts and scenarios, so much in fact that itâs easy to imagine more than one scene being shot here for cost- and time-effective reasons. Some of the buildings along the cobbled road have the right look and feel for historical flashbacks, as you can see below. I find the two separate entrances next to each other particularly lovely:

A considerable part of the buildings in the area, however, belongs to a more modern complex that communicates a very different personality and function. With a bit of camera and post-production magic, it could transform to a wide range of settings â please let me know your thoughts and ideas if you have any!

Specific filming times and more detailed information are consciously not shared out of concern for the crew and cast members who clearly donât want them to become public knowledge. Those of you who live in the area and might visit the set anyway, please donât forget to make sure that your presence wonât bother them as well as other locals. And remember to keep any new photos and information contained with tags so that you wonât spoil it to the people who would rather wait for the movie itself!

âElves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.
Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.
Elves are terrific. They beget terror.
The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
No one ever said elves are nice.â
(from Sir Terry Pratchettâs Lords and Ladies)
Tell me about a turn of phrase that introduced you to the power of language, especially if it comes from a source that most people disregard.
I'll start: one of the first times I really fell in love with a line from a song was when I heard "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" on the radio.
The chorus goes:
I'm not talking about moving in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight
I have been obsessed with the line "there's a warm wind blowing the stars around" since I was something like 6 years old. It's so beautifully economic in its word use, isn't it? You know that the night is clear and beautiful, it's windy but warm, it's a perfect night for being outside and looking at the sky. In eight words, even as a small child, I had a perfect mental image of what that night looks like.
The other one that always comes to mind is the Muppet Christmas Carol song "It Feels Like Christmas," for one line only:
It is the summer of the soul in December
The "s" sound in summer, soul, and December all fall on the beat. It is a perfect example of using consonance (as opposed to alliteration, which would require those sounds to all be at the start of the word) in lyrics or poetry, and is one of the first times I really remember that concept sticking in my mind. (I use consonance very heavily in my poetry, so that's, like, formative.)
Tell me about the language that showed you what language can do - and for my sanity, please make it cool stuff and not like "and that's how I learned how shitty propaganda works," bc while that is in fact part of how language works, this is Tunglr dot com and I'd prefer to have a nice time today. Thanks.
#there are so many terry pratchett quotes that have shaped my understanding of language#but this one is an underrated favorite. I love the way it draws your attention to the words themselves#and pulls off very effective horror/suspense with etymology and structure alone#(also the bricks quote from hitchhikers guide that ppl have mentioned was deeply formative for my sense of humor)
