A word on Cynthia Erivo’s performance as Elphaba in Wicked: Phenomenal.

In regards to the critique that she plays her too timidly: in my opinion, she plays her exactly as she is meant to be played. Watching Elphaba navigate Shiz University was so clearly a parallel to how Black women have to operate in Predominantly White spaces. Every single time her powers went out of whack, she was labeled as dangerous, and at the end, the Wizard and Madame Morrible immediately painted her out to be monstrous, vicious, and angry. Seeing her poster produced a visceral reaction in me — not because it was terrifying, but because it reminded me of those old fashioned racist posters 💀 which! Isn’t a bad thing, I think it speaks to the larger message of making Elphaba out to be the Wicked Witch, despite her only crimes at that point (that we know about) being attempted Animal Liberation and further Civil Rights movements. To me, watching Elphaba at Shiz was watching another Black woman try to fit in despite knowing she will never truly be like those around her, and to not draw any more of their ire and to not fly off the handle and be labeled as ‘angry’ or further outcast. When she sings I’m Not That Girl, it hits harder having been in that position and truly understanding what it means to not be desired or considered pretty or beautiful by anyone around you while your friends are. Honestly, it adds more in my opinion. I think Cynthia Erivo’s performance carried an excellent nuance that speaks specifically to Black women and our experiences. While it is perfectly okay to have a differing opinion, it would be a major disservice to overlook that very intentional lens painted by the film. As many have noted, having Elphaba be played by a Black woman adds so much depth to the character. It also shifts and adjusts how she presents herself when her Broadway and Book counterpart may be considered bolder (which begets a whole other essay on White Women, oppression Olympics politics, and needing elements of Whiteness to appear in oppressive narratives for the sake of ‘relatability’ despite them coming off, in my opinion, more disingenuous than not). All of this to say: Elphaba is still fierce in her own right. She stands up for herself, sets her own terms, but she does so within the realm of what is socially acceptable for a reason. I’m gonna need y’all to think a little more critically ❤️

I hope they keep some of the dialogue from “The Wizard of Oz” in Wicked Part Two because the new context and double meanings would be so funny and yet so sad at the same time.

Galinda: “Rubbish. You have no power here. Begone, before somebody drops a house on you too.”

Galinda: *weakly waves her sparkly training wand at Elphaba*

Elphaba: *looks visibly hurt by the comment*

Galinda: *silently apologizes and pleads with her eyes and she continues to wave her powerless wand at Elphaba*

Elphaba: *continues to look grieved and angry and hurt*

Galinda: *desperately tries to cover her sadness over Nessa’s death with confidence as she continues shaking her glitter wand in Elphaba’s direction while silently warning her with her eyes that her comment was a warning, not an insult*

Dorothy: *goes from looking terrified to looking progressively confused as she watches their silent emotional exchange while Galinda waves a useless bubble wand at her super powerful best friend like a child*

Galinda: *frantically shakes her useless sparkle wand one more time while the munchkins watch in nervous anticipation*

Elphaba: *sighs and pretends to be helpless against Galinda’s power*

Elphaba: “Very well. I’ll bide my time.”

as far as I know there's been no confirmation on whether it's going to be next year's Halloween event or a separate thing (the snow makes me think it'll be more Christmas-themed, or otherwise more related to the plot of the original movie) so. we're probably going to have to wait quite a while before we find out anything solid. :') they really do love just dropping these things on us and then watching us go absolutely wild with speculation while they watch like

The thing with Cleon and Masai though is that even though Cleon is clearly shown to be some sort of successor to Cyrus in her ideals, Masai doesn’t worship her in the same way he did Cyrus (like he literally called her the ‘streets Jesus’)

Which could just be because he just hasn’t known her long enough, but also Cleon literally inspired him enough to continue believing in a dream that he didn’t think existed outside of one person, which you would think would allow him to just transfer his idolisation. But instead it seems to make him realise that the idolisation almost wasn’t necessary

Like seeing Cleon continuing to believe in Cyrus while literally fighting for her life probably makes him realise that she and Cyrus were one and the same. People (just people) who want to work for a better future. It probably makes him realise for the first time that he too can fight for this dream. Because peace doesn’t depend on people worshipping Cyrus, but rather being inspired by her.

I think this is why he sees Cleon as an equal and perhaps why he sings alongside her in ‘Somewhere in the City’ because he doesn’t need to hear someone else tell him what he believes in anymore, he knows that everyone who believes in Cyrus needs to speak up to build a better future.

Marcia shouldn't be out on the East Side alone. She's heard more than enough horror stories from her classmates about girls who go too far out alone to know that it's a stupid decision. But every decision she's made since that Friday back in September has been stupid, so what's one more?

She's not entirely sure why she's going over to his house. He's made it clear that he isn't interested and this just makes her seem like a stalker who can't let go of some stupid flirting that happened nearly six months ago.

When she'd first asked Evie for his address, she'd thought she could surprise him a couple days later by showing up and taking him out. She wanted to wait until he called, though, so she could be sure he'd be home when she passed by. Then the son of a bitch hadn’t called her and months had gone by and she'd gotten pissed.

He'd made it abundantly clear he was into her back at the drive-in. If he wasn’t, why didn't he just reject her? Why make her go through the humiliation of months of waiting?

Now, as she draws her jacket closer around herself to feel a bit safer under all the gazes that follow her trail, she just wants an explanation. No one ever liked her before Two-Bit, not even Randy. They dated out of convenience and he hadn’t even bothered to say goodbye when he skipped town.

Marcia's always been everyone’s second choice, just Cherry's best friend, the other one. Until Two-Bit came along. He saw her with Cherry and seemed to really see her. Not a best friend or comic relief or a way to get into someone else's pants. And she let herself get her hopes up like an idiot, thinking that maybe someone who got her would finally like her too.

And then he didn't call her back.

Is there something wrong with her – something so fundamentally wrong that no one could ever really like her?

Oh, God, and now she's knocking on his door and has absolutely no game plan and he's standing in front of her – has he been always that cute? – and his eyes are wide with shock, and she really seems like a stalker, doesn't she?

"I– uh... hi." Marcia looks up at him sheepishly. The anger that’s been boiling in her chest for weeks now seems to have completely disappeared, crumbling into motes of dust that sweep away with the wind.

All she really wants to do now is hug him and bury her face in his chest and tell him all of the remarks she's suppressed during the past few months because once she got a taste of someone clicking with them, it wasn’t the same when they fell flat.

But he doesn't want to have anything to do with her. He couldn’t even bother to call. And this is stupid. This is really, very stupid. Why is she even here?

"Sorry, I– I shouldn’t be here, this is stupid, I'm stupid, I'll go now–" She can't meet his eyes as she turns back around, cheeks burning.

This is why no one likes you. It's not enough that you're weird and awkward and rough and just pretty, not beautiful. You don’t think things through and you're scatterbrained and you're so fucking stupid, it's a wonder Randy even put up with you for so long–

"Wait, Marcia!" Marcia's head jerks up to find Two-Bit jogging towards her. "I don't..." His hand comes up – to run through his hair, to touch her face – but stops midway "I don't think it was stupid. You comin' here. I also don't think you're stupid."

He's close to her. Close enough to see unshed tears she hasn't been able to suppress. Close enough to the see the bags under her eyes from worrying about what to do. Close enough for her to count his freckles, if she wanted to. Close enough for anyone walking by to easily misinterpret the scene they're seeing.

Neither of them step back.

"That’s just 'cause o' the aliens controllin' your mind. You ain't worn your aluminum hat today, right?" Her delivery's off and it doesn't land how she wants it to. It's hard for a joke to sound funny when you're holding back tears.

"I think the one thing me an' the aliens can agree on is that you're better'n most of this town gives you credit for."

It isn't the first time Two-Bit's complimented her, – he used far too many stupid pick-up lines that night they'd met, and about the first thing he'd said to her was that she was sharp – but it is the first time he's said it in earnest, not a hint of wit in his tone. She's almost too surprised to remember why she's there.

"The aliens tell ya not to call me, then?" The dust motes of anger are swept up by a gust of wind and concentrated again, building up to their former glory and crashing down in a final show of power. "Or was that all you?"

Two-Bit raises an eyebrow, trying to seem nonchalant. It's strange that she can read him well enough to notice the subtle surprise as easily as if it were written in bold across his forehead.

"That– that was your real number?"

Marcia makes a sound that's something between a bark of laughter and a scoff. "Of course it was my real number. What, you think I'd give you a phony?"

"Oh, like it was stupid to think you wouldn't give a grease like me your number."

"I wouldn't give my number to a grease like Da– that Shepard boy, but I'd say so to his face," Marcia snaps, and Two-Bit winces at her slip-up. "And I most certainly would give a 'grease like you' my number, because I liked you and I said I would, an' for all the stupid rumours you can hear 'bout me, there ain't a single one 'bout me not keepin' my word."

His smile is crooked and he's raised an eyebrow and Marcia knows she's in trouble in more ways than one before he even opens his mouth.

"Liked me? Not anymore, then. I guess you just came all the way 'round here to tell me how much you don’t care about me."

She cracks a grin of her own because maybe she should still be mad at him but how is she supposed to, when there's that gap between his teeth and that sparkle in his eyes and that tilt to his grin? "Yeah. Can't stand ya, actually."

"I reckon I could change that."

Marcia raises an eyebrow. "You do, do you?"

"How's seven this Saturday?"

"You gonna pick me up or am I gonna hafta walk all the way over here again?"

"You gonna give me your real number or am I gonna hafta go to school just to see you again?"

They're smiling so wide they must look insane to anyone passing by, but neither of them minds as Marcia scribbles her number down onto a piece of paper and gives it over to him.

"Don’t lose it this time."

i got to watch the inazuma eleven movie!! it was good i'm once again insanely excited for what's to come ^_^ (victory road, of which i'll talk about under the cut to avoid spoilers)

the first half was, as expected, just a recap with major focus on the first and last episode of season 1. the new t-pistonz song slaps and the nostalgic soundtracks are always good to hear. makes me think something among the lines of "ah yeah, that's right, i love inazuma eleven." fine but not too good when you think of it as a recap, i would've switched some scenes for others personally. voice acting good as always

AS FOR VICTORY ROAD repetition of the scenes of the beta until the last part, where it's all new I GOT SO EXCITED. despite being singular cutscenes put together, it went smoother than i expected. the main (spoiler) points i would like to highlight are:

unless it was shown in the beta and i just forgot about it, we get to see the student council other than shisendou animated. unmei and sakurazaki are on everyone's mouth for challenging the baseball club

sakurazaki sends unmei the video of the hokuyou vs raimon match, to show him "today's soccer" and oh my god i wasn't ready for this. like at all. unmei sits on the same bench - i assume - he sat on with sakurazaki the night he went to the hospital and starts watching the match and then something crazy happens

SORAMIYA APPEARS ON SCREEN AND UNMEI GOES "soramiya-kun!" and then "so this is soramiya now..." they know each other my god. i wasn't ready at all for this. they're showing new connections i can't wait to see them eventually reunite....

the match ends 6-0 in favor of raimon because haru is just That strong but of course he pulls up with the "soccer is boring" line. they're putting haru in a rather different position than his dad. haru said he doesn't have the desire to confront strong rivals (?) (i'm not exactly sure of this point, if anyone notices i'm wrong please lmk!) as mamoru did, all he wants is having friends

the animation is as good as what we've already seen from mappa, especially the match itself is very smooth and enjoyable to watch. the credits arts were my favorite (UNMEI AND RAIKA TOGETHER... also unmei and soramiya as kids together. i can't wait to know more about them) i assume we'll be able to see them in the final game. in the end the second part is more of an introduction of what victory road will be but ohhh it was so nice

also got some merch! plus the cards they give you for purchasing the tickets. there was barely anything left lol, and of fucking course the can badges were blind box style. i really wish i got raika, but kameo's fine too. had fun... i can't believe inazuma eleven is real...
