WIP Wednesday 6/28

This has been the longest week, and I just realized it's Wednesday. I'm still slowly pecking away at some writealong fics, including the below snippet.

"He's sleeping," Jack said as he quietly shut Mac's door and looked down at Riley and Bozer, who were sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall opposite the door.

"Is he okay?"  Riley set her phone aside and looked past Jack's leg as if she could see through the door.  

Jack sighed and held his hand out to help her up.  "He'll be okay.  Sometimes, his body reminds him that his brain forgets about it."

Bozer stood and stretched his back.  "I haven't seen him eat anything in days."

"He had a protein bar yesterday," Riley said.  "I kinda put it in his hand while he was scribbling an equation on the whiteboard, and he ate it without even looking at it."

"Was it chocolate?  Those are his favorites."  Bozer pointed toward the living room.  "Movie night?"

Riley shook her head as she walked down the hall and grabbed her backpack where she'd dropped it on one of the kitchen stools earlier.  "I should head home.  It's been a long week."

"It's only Tuesday."

"I stand by my statement, old man.  See you in the morning?"

"We'll be here," Jack assured her with a brief half-hug on his way to the fridge.

So I'm not currently watching the horror season (I'm on the ep before the finale of AsO, love this fucking season) but I watch some of the adventuring party's for the memes and the serotonin, and my GOD this most recent one is SO GOOD. Like I've got bad problems with seasonal depression (January in the Midwest is NOT great you guys, lemme tell ya) but since I started watching the D20 gang in December.... I've just been feeling pretty great. So much imagination and storytelling and love between these 7 people is so wonderful to watch (and to share, since I got my best friend into them LMAO) and I can't help but feel their energy and put it into my own life. They're all so truly wonderful and I'm very thankful that I get to experience this <3

somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.

and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.

i turn 24 today. To celebrate, I made this comic to be a spiritual successor to lead balloon, a comic in which I talked about the darkest period of my life so far.

A lot has changed since my 23rd birthday and this one. My priorities have shifted a lot, in ways that I think are mostly good. But i think the best part about today is that suicide has gone back to being a far away notion. I'm really lucky, and I'm grateful for that.

I find it really wonderful and comforting that Mob Psycho 100 is so inherently optimistic, even though its main message, “you are not special” sounds so mean at face-value. Being special means that something matters more than something else of the same category. Being special at baking? Great! Being special at math? Super! Being special at bodybuilding? Neat! Having so many people have such unique special abilities is what makes the world work. But having a special ability doesn’t mean that someone who doesn't match your special ability matters less than you. You can't be special for simply existing, because that would mean someone else isn't. You aren't special because you inherently matter.
