i have reached another vonnegut "NOT homosexual" disclaimer. It is literally never not funny. This book came out in 1952, "no homo" was not a thing. No one else wrote their book this way! They just assumed that obviously that would never cross your mind, why would it? There HAS to have been at least a couple people who learned what homosexuality even was by reconstructing it from these bits.

#this one wasn't even that close! the sentence was already prefaced with how my guy couldn't use words like love and affection about friends!#we were already out of the romantic context here! this is not a genderless pining robot situation this time!#ink post #vonnegut #and to be clear: it never feels aggressive or even especially marginalizing #like these are usually characters who are as dead as the rest of the cast wherever that ends up #and theyre written as full people who are not more good or evil than baseline #i'm CONVINCED at least one or two was semi-intended as rep and an editor told him to tone it down or something #there are simply too many of them. they are too diverse as a class. i think they might actually outnumber the women in what ive read so far
