Happy International Lesbian Day!
Here are some of my favorite Sapphic Ships and awards to them. (Reblog and add your favorite sapphic ship with your own award to them)
Lumity! Congrats for being one of the few Sapphic Ships that ended up being Canon with No Margin to Deny It. You get the Fuck Disney Award!
Anthy and Utena for being the THEE Yuri Ship for Anime. Creating so many tropes as well. Also for being the start of Pink x Purple Ship for me. You get the Trope Starter Award
Bubbline! For being the Slowest Queer Coded Turn Canon in Western Animation. Award for "My Ex Keeps Missing Me, But Her Aim Is Getting Better!"
TogaChako! Congrats for breaking the internet this past weekend. Award for Making Me Scream, Cry, and Throw Up Everytime I See You (I will make them Canon every chance I get in fics)
Catradora! Congrats for being my introduction to Childhood Friends to Enemies to Lovers Ship (this definitely didn't affect my future ships at all). Award for Winning a War with Gay Love!
HaruMichi! Congrats for finally having your love story shown without censors for western audiences. You get the "And Censorship Will Call Them..." Award
Korrasami! Congrats on jump-starting Sapphic (and maybe even LGBT relationships) in Western animation. We salute you! You get the Hand Hold as an I Love You Award
And here's a surprise contender. ZakuMint from Tokyo Mew Mew. You gave the Vibes in 2000s and now you're fully Gay Coded Congrats! You get the Upgrades People Upgrades Award!

“What's crazy is when makorra shippers talk about how Korra and Asami are horrible toxic people and Mako is their victim, but also complain that Korra should be with Mako and not Asami. Korrasami quarantines the big bad mean girls that bullied Mako, so now they'll keep each other busy and won't victimize poor Mako anymore! Isn't this a win-win situation?”
I know I’m not on anon btw
The main complaint from makorra shippers is that korrasami shippers hate on mako and make him the sole reason as to why makorra didn’t work out. Korrasami shippers mainly paint mako as the bad guy without acknowledging asami and korra’s role in the love triangle. I don’t know where you korrasami shippers get that info from but I hope that clears that up.

Korrasami isn't perfect and it's not one of my favorites, but it will always be better than Kataang for me. They didn't have to dumb down or regress Korra or Asami's characters to make it work, their ending leaves a lot more room for growth and relationship development than Kataang does, and Asami wasn't presented as Korra's prize for being the hero. They both get to keep their autonomy.
It also doesn't feel one-sided. It feels like two women who are not only coming to terms with their sexuality, but also relatively new feelings for one another and exploring that together. I wish more people understood that
AGREED. Just because they’re both canon ships doesn’t mean they’re alike. I mean Korra had gone through some serious shit and had been held responsible for her actions way more than Aang ever was, so Korrasami was never going to have that “Perfect Avatar and Doting Girlfriend” dynamic. Unlike Aang, Korra was narratively not rewarded for liking someone and acting like she’s entitled to them just because she’s the Avatar. Unlike Aang, Korra actually undergoes an evolution in how she interacts with her love interest’s parental trauma and learns to be a better friend. Neither Korra nor Asami pushed for a relationship or tried to win the other over, even though they realized their feelings way before they got together. Like you said, it feels a lot more mutual. Imo, Korrasami was better written than Ka/taang even though it had way less development, because — probably due to 2010s Nick censorship — they couldn’t resort to will-they won’t-they romance tropes that send conflicting messages about what the characters want and what is good for them. Most of their romantic development had to be platonic in nature, and Bryke are much better at writing meaningful platonic relationships than romantic ones, so this worked out in Korrasami’s favour.
In some ways, Korrasami actually reminds me a little bit of Sukka. Like Suki, Asami is super competent, super gorgeous, and didn’t need to compromise herself for this relationship, though she did have to teach some lessons to her eventual partner. Asami was never set up as a deuteragonist (unlike Katara) and I don’t mind her narrative weight being tied to that of her love interest, especially since — as previously stated — much of that romantic development was platonic.

I made it better
I'm assuming this is because of me getting annoyed at Azutara shippers in my other blog and calling them and Tyzula fans the "Azula fandom's equivalent of Zutara and Zukka" XD
Anyways *grabs a megaphone and gets on a soap-box*
As a bisexual woman that would go crazy with joy if Azula was gay/bi, and that ships her with Ty Lee and Mai, and even Toph and Suki every now and then, let me make one thing very clear here: Azula DOES have a confirmed canon sexuality, and it's straight. Heterosexual. Likes guys and only guys. The idea that ANY gay ship was CANON in ATLA, a show made in 2005 by a kid's Network, is ridiculous.
Azula explicitly stated that she has tried to flirt with boys before and it never worked out because they are scared of her. She was jealous that boys were paying attention to Ty Lee - and while fanfic writers, and even I, like to say stuff like "Oh, you don't like them getting too close to your gilfriend, Azula?" it's VERY CLEAR that the show was going for the classic "Why do they like her and not ME?" aka she wanted attention from GUYS. She wanted to hook up with Chan, and immediately went for "Let's conquer the world together!" after one kiss. Even the up-coming Azula comic has her dreaming of a guy trying to flirt with her and calling her pretty.
For fuck's sake, Grey Delisle already admiting to voicing the scene between Azula and Zuko as if Azula was trying to seduce her own brother. Meanwhile, even though she likes Tyzula now, when asked about the ship her first reaction was the same as the one every actor, writer and/or showrunner had to hearing about popular gay ships: "I did not see that coming."
It might seem surreal nowadays that the Network let the show get away with incest bait but gay characters were out of question, but that's what happened because, surprise surprise, homophobia was still going strong. Hell, it's still going strong TODAY.
Lots of Nickelodeon shows from the 90's and early/mid 2000's tried to get away with implying or flat out saying "This character is gay" and it ALWAYS resulted in banned episodes, some of which became lost media because the Network was just that desperate to bury any evidence of it to avoid controversy. Even characters that never had any love interests ever were assumed to be straight - not as in "treat them as being straight unless we say otherwise" but in "They are straight because that's the only thing allowed to exist in kid's media." There was no "otherwise" to be heard of. Fitting for years that followed the policy literally called "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL."
THAT was the general sentiment around homosexuality at the time, especially on TV (KIDS TV, I remind you): pretend you don't know that's a thing.
Even The Legend Of Korra, that parts of the fandom still pretends did anything for gay representation, had the creators (the same who made ATLA) that they never even bothered to ask Nickelodeon if they could Korrasami happen, and thus kept the whole love triangle, with the girls fighting over a GUY, going. It wasn't until the very end that they had the guts to ask "Can we make them hold hands in the finale?" and Nick said "Sure, the final season will basically not be aired on TV anyways." Bryke even had to state ONLINE that "Yes, they are a couple." Only THEN, with the positive response from audiences, that neither the writers nor the Network had thought could ever gain any sympathy for the show, did they make Korra and Assami have an actual relationship in the Korra comics.
Do these guys sound like the type that would leave a character's sexuality up for debate or even try to write a gay couple into the show IN 2005, years before Korra was allowed to get away with a slight hint of gayness that to be explained on Twitter?
They didn't make Azula's attempts to win guys over fail to show she was a gay teen trying too hard to be something she was not, her envy that Ty Lee was getting a ton of attention from boys while she wasn't was meant to be taken as EXACTLY that, and no cutesy moment between her and her friends was meant to be taken as anything other just gals being pals.
We can, and should, point out that it is unfair that gay relationships were treated as "too adult" while straight romances weren't. We can change any character's sexuality in fanfics. We can ship whatever the hell we like. But claiming Azula was EVER meant to be seen as anything other than a 100% straight girl that just sucked at flirting and thus was struggling to get a boyfriend is just a flat out lie.
She's not bisexual. She's not a lesbian. Her sexuality was not "left up to debate" because THERE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE A DEBATE!
Again, I would love a bisexual Azula (provided that wasn't handled by people like Yang and Bryke, who see her as nothing more than an ableist stereotype), but let's not kid ourselves here.
Nickelodeon is not our "ally", they're a company that wants your money. Bryke, by their own admission, were not revolutionaries who pushed for gay representation and were ready to give up on the idea of same-sex relationship with no resistence if the Network told them "no, only straight romances allowed". Korra was no Steven Universe or even Adventure Time, it was basically Disney with it's 50th "first" gay character that gets five seconds of screentime. Azula's sexuality absolutely WAS confirmed and it is (sadly for me) heterosexual.
And to the people that claim to love headcanons for bisexual Azula, but still insist I should only ship her with women, or make her strongly prefer women, or only have had bad experiences with men and positive ones with women, otherwise she'll be "basically straight": your biphobia is showing, stop hating on bi women everytime they shatter your ilusion that we're just confused/in denial and will eventually realize we're actually lesbians.

Question for older Critters: Were people this skeptical of long-game ships in previous campaigns?
I started watching campaign 2 during quarantine and didn’t really join the community till campaign 3 started. While Imodna and Dorym are probably the most popular ships of this campaign, they get backlash too. Mostly from people who think there’s no way that it could happen. Even when cast members allude to it both in and out of the game, people will either put their heads in the sand or say it seems forced.
Were fans like this about Fjord and Jester? Jester flirted with Fjord from the beginning and we didn’t know Fjord’s feelings till the end of the campaign. They talked about it on Talks Machina as well, but did people call it forced then?
Prior to recent events, I saw a lot of people saying they felt Laudna seemed uncomfortable with Imogen’s crush on her (ngl, I think they were projecting their own feelings about the ship on to Laudna). Did people say that about Fjord?
I’m sure all the major ships have their haters, and idk what Imodna haters are saying right now (I am quite literally on cloud nine and cannot hear them), but I can’t help but notice this particular brand of criticism directed at two queer ships.
It reminds me of Korrasami back when season 4 of the Legend of Korra aired. Obviously there was studio pushback to keep that relationship censored, but people still refused to read the subtext that was there. And here, we have bafta award winning actor Laura Bailey making subtle, intentional choices to make it clear she’s playing the long game, looking forlornly in the distance with every gay thought she has, as well as king of angst Liam O’Brien pining into a walkie talkie rock about once a month and people are just like “I love strong, same sex friendships”. I just really think if Imodna was a straight ship, way less people would have been skeptical about it.
And on the meta side of things, do people really not think the players talk about this stuff outside of the game? Like do they really think Marisha hadn’t long since given Laura the go ahead to attempt a romance? These are things that have to be communicated about as both players and actors. Making sure everyone is comfortable first is of the upmost importance, and these people are close friends and long time coworkers. They trust one another and are professionals at their craft. Idk, I just feel like this part never gets taken into account on either side.
Ok, I think I’m done ranting. These were just some thoughts and questions that’ve been brewing well before we had a huge sapphic win, I just needed to purge them from my system. Anyways, I fucking love this show, petty ship squabbles aside. Let me know what you guys think.

My comments on Arcane s02 e7-9
- Not everything going to shit while Ekko is living the best life in some alternative reality (except Vi is dead in this one). It is so weird to see Jinx as powder.
The way he ran to hug Benzo...He is strong cuz Idk if I would come back to a shitty reality after be in one were basically all my dreams came true.
And for a moment I thought the sex scene was gonna be about Ekko and Powder 😭
Not Jayce carrying his weapon like he is Pyramid Head and no wonder he came out that way, damn. Everyone was judging him but I knew there was a good reason for all that in episode 6
Is Heimerdinger dead?
-IN THE FUCKING CELL. OMG IT REALLY HAPPENED. IN THAT FUCKIN CELL. My depression is officially cured y'all
The way Caitlyn was like, telling about Maddie and Vi couldn't care less abt 😭😭 I love it for them
I wish we could have a scene like this with Korrasami, imma right Korrasami nation ? And Since Bryke couldn't care less about Korra now, we won't be getting any scene, let alone a sex scene one
- Damn Mel... You looking good.
Nah bruh, leave Vander alone. Let him rest. Viktor too
Okay, this glorious evolution doesn't seem nice and he is teaming up with Ambessa. That woman, I forgot her name, leaving Viktor now that he is turning evil, is so symbolic.
Viktor being the one that met Jayce as a kid, everything is a cycle. Not only them but Silco/Vader and Vi/Jinx. And it's fair to say that Viktor is the love of Jayce's life, as they are bound to be together.
-Damn Jinx, we never saw her so vulnerable and depressed. It's weird to see her in the same position Vi probably was for years in that prison. Being the older sister is hard.
At least she didn't go homicidal. She is THE big fat hero. Zhaun and Piltover fighting together. Hell yeah!!
And what a wonderful redemption for Jinx, but I'm in PAIN!
Vi always tried to save Jinx and in the end, was Jinx who saved Vi. 😭😭
- Not Vi reviving the trauma of Vander death, only for losing Jinx as well. IN THE SAME FUCKIN TIME.
She wasn't that present in this act, other than some fighting scenes. But something felt off about her in the end. We don't know how much time has passed but she was just too chill. Like? She fought so hard to have her sister back, only to lose it.
- That scene, with Caitlyn and Jinx was the closure Caitlyn needed. look so hot with that eye patch. I'm sorry. How is she gonna shoot now tho?
Caitlyn is tough man. What a fight against Ambessa and with a stab wound. And in order to win, she had to sacrifice her eye. There's a lot in sacrifices in Arcane really.
The pupil fighting against the master troope is perfectly done here and served as Caitlyn's redemption for her actions against Zhaun, as she fought, bled and defeated the monster who took advantage of her pain and "made" her do it all that.
-Damn, that battle was tough. Ambessa using Kratos blades of chaos was dope af.
RIP Loris, you were a real one. RIP Heimerdinger. RIP Jayce
FUCK YOU MADDIE . MEL YOU'RE A MOTHERFUCKING G and so are you Ekko
Daughter fighting mother, former besties in opposite sides of a apocalypse, two sisters fighting the beast that once was their dad... And all of this was perfectly built. High stakes at their best.
Never expected to see Sevika in the council, that wasn't in my card but it was nice.
-WTF was that ending. Is it all??? They took hours to make that open ass ending?? Why was Caitlyn looking at Hextec shit? Who was in that balloon? The scientist? I need answers cuz this felt too much like a season finale and not a series finale

Since the poll is going around of korrasami/beauyasha. As a fan of both I think I need to say something because a few people are already trying to say beauyasha should win because there's more content around them in canon.
Which, if that is your argument to prove it's a better ship, you've lost the contest. Because korrasami becoming canon was world altering for me as a teenager. For the younger queer fans who don't get it, I want you to understand: the creators had to tip toe around their relationship until the last episode. At that point in time, there wasn't a group of children's media where people could see queer main characters having crushes or relationships. There was no steven universe, Owl House, she ra, etc, that was continuing to normalize these ideas.
People loved korrasami but like most queer ships, the idea of it being canon was more of a naive hope than an actual expectation. I know for me I was hoping that korra would end up single if nothing else because I figured she and mako would be back together by the end because that's what always happened. Popular guy/girl relationship that wasn't the best but was still end game because it was build up.
So when korra and Asami sat down in the final episode on those steps and had a heart to heart I was expecting for them to take a friend trip to the spirit world. Because in what realm would a children's show actually have their female leads be bisexual women. But that last shot of them holding hands and staring into each others eyes before the frame moved away gave me a feeling I'll never forget. I still remember sitting in class the day before Christmas break not being able to scream about it to any of my friends because they didn't watch korra but just knowing how monumental this moment was. The winter of 2014 when legend of korra added itself to queer history.
I was elated, I was shocked, what I thought would never happen did. And the creators only doubled down in the coming days by reiterating that yes korra and Asami were in a relationship. And it was a healthy relationship build on friendship and trust, it was one where you could go back and see the moments people were pointing out as a "maybe korrasami endgame" and just know that those weren't baiting fans but instead moments the creators were allowed to add in to show that yes korra and asami's dynamic was changing.
Younger queer fans can't be going around insulting every past bit of queer representation because we get better stuff now, when the only reason we have that better stuff is because of the previous content that was fought tooth and nail for. That sliver of a hand hold will always mean the world to me.
Fans also need to remember beauyasha is from dnd podcast where players can control their characters and don't have to contend with studio interference when they want something.
It's fine to prefer beauyasha and want it to win. I love beauyasha and was part of everyone screaming when they became canon. But don't diminish what korrasami accomplished to do so.

Should I do a post with the Avatar+Love interest Fight? (aka Rangshi, Yangvik, Kataang, Korrasami?)
(also looooooool my comment on the vid klfjekslajf even back then I was repping "Rangi can and would beat Katara I'm just saying" TT0TT)
Lord help me that might be like......a longer one (I'll try my best to get all the feats in there but it could be hard). And there will be a few different scenarios (because of this I think I'll organize it different than "Rangi would totally win the Avatar Love Interest Brawl")
One such scenario is "what version are they" because depending on if this is like "teen!Rangshi" or "adult!Rangshi" it's probably gonna look a lot different (adult!Rangi would be hypothetically roughly the same but relatively stronger I guess). Most of this is gonna be teen!Rangshi tho

People also love to say that Byler wouldn't be popular if it was a wlw ship. Haven't they heard of big and popular wlw ships in mainstream media like Korrasami, Yumihisu, Haruka/Michiru, Madoka/Homura, Max/Chloe, Ellie/Dina, Catradora, etc?
They probably haven't heard of them, no, and the reason why is that they don't actually care.
This is like Melvins pretending to be super invested in eImax because they didn't want byler to win the script polls, or when they acted like they cared so muck about rockiie all of a sudden just because if an article talking about the importance of byler endgame.
They use wlw as a tool to hide their hatred towards byler because they're homophobic and can't bear the thought of a gay couple happening, so they feel the need to gaslight it's shippers into thinking they're "delusional girls who see love between 2 boys who are just boys because they have a fetish".

Take aways from my latest LOK rewatch:
Korrasami stays winning
Korra’s s4 ptsd arc is still awesome
In retrospect it’s weird how popular Varric was. He sure speedran that redemption arc
I could see Korra/Opal tbh
Season 2 remains the worst for all previously stated reasons
The choice to permanently remove Korra from her past lives was myopic at best. The connection to past lives is one of the most interesting parts of the avatar character why take it away???
Season 1 is a fun romp stand alone but it’s really disconnected from the other seasons
IMO s3 is probably the best season with the best pacing and fight scenes
Fight scene choreography animation is incredible throughout
I wish Korra had interacted with Yue given all the spirit world stuff
I loved the scene with Iroh (original) in the spirit world
The characterization of Katara (esp in s2) remains poor. Sorry not sorry
However Toph was spot on
Suki and the Kyoshi warriors were missed dearly
