This is the most devastating thing they could've pulled here. These aren't flashbacks. Maria was killed before she ever got to see the earth that she loved so much from afar. They never got to explore the world together the way they always wanted to.

These are fantasies. Dreams that never got fulfilled. Glimpses of everything that could've been but never was. Shadow isn't reminiscing on his past-- he's getting lost in flashes of that happy, content future him and Maria never got to have. What if I just cried.

read a sliver of a bio today and it said that two people had made Shrewsbury's life miserable: William and his mommy

and like ?? it made me kinda sad 🥲 I dunno, I guess I see it, it's hard to have sympathy for William knowing he had some of the same health issues Shrewsbury was having and still he wouldn't let this man go, he expected so much from him. but also.... I don't think Shrewsbury would see it that way. he never ever hated William!! sure he'd get a little disillusioned now and then, but so much of his guilt came from being unable to serve the monarchs he loved. it's kind of a difficult situation but also it wouldn't be the first time William has been kinda obsessive over the people he loves (and he did love Shrewsbury). I dunno what my point is here but the phrasing rlly threw me, is all

sometimes i think about how there's a route in shadow's game called "the miracle of love", where you do the dark missions up until meeting amy, then take the good route for the rest of the game—and i just really feel things for shadow. and in the ending when he goes over everything he did, he mentions how he had no reason to help amy, but did anyway, wording it in a way that implies he just wanted to. it's fucking called the miracle of love.

also there's a voiceline in team sonic racing where he says "you did okay, amy" in the gentlest fucking tone i have ever heard my god. and it's like the nicest thing he said to *any* of the characters in that game.

it's such a soft part of his characterization that kinda drives me nuts to think about sometimes.
